Thanks @pkml3, however what happened to the Rewatch thread for Ep 9 on Saturday, May 17? It didn’t get posted!!!!

    ๐Ÿฅ›๐Ÿช๐Ÿฅž๐Ÿฅ“๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฅ™๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿœ๐ŸฅŸ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฅœ๐Ÿช๐Ÿฅ›๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜

  2. It didnโ€™t? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Let me check. I thought it was in the queue before this thread.

  3. I found a better 480p version of Get Karl! Oh Soo Jung.
You can download it by using a torrent software, opening this link.
    magnet:?xt=urn:btih:46C166DC4727FC94CAFC90E7669A11D91A44AACE&dn=%5bDORAMA%5dGet%20Karl%20Oh%20Soo%20Jung

About the subtitles, take this one:
    https://subf2m.co/subtitles/get-karl-oh-soo-jung-aka-butcher-oh-soo-jung/english/1307555
It’s already in sync with the drama files.
In your reader software, choose a subtitle style with dark background, and white or yellow characters. So the english subtitles mask the hard-sub of the video.

I’m in episode 7 of the drama, and it’s quality writing from Park Hye Ruyn.
    The screenplay use various tricks:
    – A kind of funny resume/previous at start of each episode, with a different parody of something each time (for example, it’s “Mission: Impossible” in one episode.
    – Just years before Yumi’s Cells, there is sometimes a 3d small character speaking with the heroine of the drama.

Unlike the dramas the writer did after, where good characters are obviously good, the characters in this drama are more grey, and all of them do something a bit immoral, even the seemingly kind and innocent sister. Dialogues are fine.

@WE, thank you for the link to “Get Karl”. I suppose I need to download a torrent app first.

  5. Ready to start?

  6. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    It’s time!! Let’s start NOW!!!

  7. Hi GB. Yep. I don’t know all the apps. I use uTorrent. I keep the drama as source. I don’t have a big speed of upload, but there should be other sources too (it’s how I could download it).

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @SD! Glad to see you. Yes, started!!!

  9. Hi SD.
We start the episodes with Soo-Ha amnesic.

  10. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE We are given lots of voiceovers by SH now so that we can ‘hear his voice’.

  11. Hello @GB and @WE. Such a sad beginning to this episode. I really like how Lee Jong Suk is able to convey so much with his eyes (lack of recognition here, but it continues throughout this episode). Also kudos to the costume prop people. That grey t-shirt is perfect, little holes indicating lots of washings, but clean; so poor, but cared for.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Now we get the voiceovers from HS. Interesting that he lost his mind-reading ability and uses honorifics with her now that he has forgotten her.

  13. @GB, I send you the link on MDL, so you can copy-paste it, (in url bar of browser, while the torrent soft is oppen).

  14. @GB, I like this little twist, that he can no longer read peoples minds. Do we hear his voice before this? I can’t remember if we have voice overs previously.

  15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, yes, you noticed all those little clues. I really like that LJS does such a good job treating HS as a stranger.

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks again @WE. I’ll try later.

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, we had very few voiceovers before. But this episode has several.

  18. Hello I am here following the conversation but not watching the drama.

My husband was in hospital for a week with Serious problems. But it looks like he will be recovering well. My son has come To stay with us, but leaves toMorrow. I am Doing the dishes while I wait for them to come home from the market. This is a great way to not be bored by household chores! This and one of my Korean Playlists.

    I do.
Have a comment which may no longer be relevant. I don’t remember the details but I noticed there was an issue about the word dragon. Dragon is a very short word -Almost a single vowel sound- in korean and could have gotten lost in the translation.

  19. Good scene idea: chief attorney take the glass of tea without saying a word, but it’s a “yes” to let the case to HS.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, I like that HS is suddenly such a good lawyer. All the care and initiative that we never got much chance to see before, suddenly come to the fore with HS in order to help and protect SH. He always brings out the best in her lawyer-side.

  21. Hi MM. Best wish for a good recovery for your husband.

  22. Hi @MM. So sorry to hear about your husband and happy to hear he is recovering well. Don’t wear yourself out too much; it is really difficult to shoulder that care-giving role by yourself.

And thanks for the comment about the Korean word ‘dragon’. It was used in the episode ending at the aquarium. My listening abilities in Korean are almost nil (just the first word, or single word replies, at best) so I am not sure I would hear it on a re-listen, but I am now curious to try.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @MM, Oh the word ‘dragon’ turned up over HS first behaving like a loach but then when she started taking an interest in work she became a dragon in her mother’s eyes.

  24. the romanization is yong for dragon.

Thank you all for your kind wishes.

  25. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE it’s interesting that Do Yeon voluntarily gives HS the reports and SH’s phone and phone records (against protocol??) and now wants HS to do what she’d done all along with other cases ie just plead mitigating circumstances, and get leniency and a short term of imprisonment.

We who have not watched this before will wonder if she’d take this easy way out.

  26. I like the small 2-person scenes in this episode. The concern for SH shown by HS, the amusing interaction between HS and Lawyer Shin, especially his small smile at the end.

  27. I don’t remember the name of the assistant atorney. But he planned everything to make Attorney Cha back.

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Then we find that not only HS and DY want to help SH, but even Yoo Chang does by getting Cha back on board.

  29. Shin is a famous attorney, but in his carrer he had at least one big failure.

HS asks to Soo-Ha what he want, but it’s like he doesn’t care and just want to do what HS want. lol

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE LOL Cha can interpret all of Yoo Chang’s short forms in speaking between panting and YC already has the file ready for Cha to read.

And in the office Shin alsp does his bit to tell HS about Hwang Dal Jung. LOL I like the wig on a younger Shin.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Shin and everyone else seems to be wanting HS to go along with Do Yeon’s suggestion, but actually they prefer to fight for the truth rather than for a lighter sentencing.

  32. I remember how good the acting By the male lead is in this part of the drama. How torn he is thinking he might have murdered someone.

I don’t quite remember but does he admit to it at one point. That relates back to our discussion about Whether confessions are accepted or not or under some kind of privileged acceptance by the court.

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, SH says that HS is a defence attorney which means she’d take his side no matter what and she pauses, conficted because she is dithering between pleading innocent or guilty, and she did not take the side of her many other clients.

  34. She’s still harsh with her words “for me you are just someone with talent to make a culcript an innocent”.

  35. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, yes, LJS is amazing in this episode and the series of scenes of him looking vulnerable, dismayed at what he might be but hopeful that if HS believes in him then he might be a good person.

The police keep saying that he admitted to killing someone but I did not hear him say it.

The thing about confessing was by the twins who tried to get away with murder. If one confessed against the other than he got off scot free. But they both turned upon each other so they were both indicted.

  36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE we get the wheels spinning in her mind scene with the revolving doors again, and then she sees the saviour to help her in the person of Cha.

He wants to take his loss where it came to Killer Min as a lesson he had learnt. And yes it’s harsh that she only sees him as someone capable of turning a guilty crime into an innocent verdict, but he’s exactly the person she needs.

  37. It is so impressive. How motifs are repeated in variation in this drama.

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, the writer has done a good job in planning so that all the set up is in place and we get to see the repeated motifs.

  39. When I started to watch kdramas, LJS was the first male actor I liked. I found he has a kind of “transparency” making me (audience) close to him and able to read him. Plus of course, he has good style and charisma. His performance in “I hear your voice” is even better than in few dramas he made later. When I watched dramas and don’t know what to choose, I saw “oh LJS in this, I’ll watch”. It’s how I watched W, because at this time I didn’t know the writer and even didn’t fully read the pitch.

  40. @GB So much more fascinating than sweeping the floor!

  41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, LOL Yoo Chang wants to give Cha a hug but Cha avoids it adroitly and then clings on to Shin to escape YC’s cringey clinginess.

Finally memories are starting to flash in SH’s mind as he hears the diary being read.

Now that we hear the diary read, we no longer need voiceovers. We can get flashbacks too when SH remembers!!

  42. At this point, Chung-Gi is on the way to become a friend. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Chung Gi is the frenemy who thought of SHY as rival, but now finds that SH needs him for a change. It’s great to see them as friends at last.

Meanwhile SH wants to know if he’s special to HS and what she was to him. HS cannot tell him the truth and he cannot read her mind to find out clearly but he can guess.

  44. Screenplay trick: as we assist to the trial, regular flashbacks about strategy from both teams. In a way it sounds natural (not even need a flash effect to show it’s a flashback).

  45. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, HS has to lie to SH that she was just someone he knew when actually he had liked her. I suppose she felt that as the adult she should not be in the way of a someone so much younger than herself.

She finally gets back her lawyer badge because she’s behaving like a real lawyer.

  46. @WE, I am not sure how we know that these are flashbacks. I do remember knowing that, so I will look for it (I am behind, per usual, so am not to that point yet).

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, the flashbacks on how the lawyers and prosecution planned to face the jury was the most informative of the way it works in a court of law with a jury. I liked it very much and learnt so much.

In the meantime poor SH gets painful flashbacks of meeting Min in a dark place.

  48. Plus: when he cuts the beef, he doesn’t even cut the bones. And cut the bones is really difficult (has to be done where there is “jointure” I mean link to one bone to the other, even when I cut chicken, it’s not always easy).

  49. Also, @WE: I don’t remember which male lead I liked first. I saw Crash Landing on You fairly early on, but I am not sure I really appreciated Hyun Bin in that drama, the first time I watched it. I first watched LJS in Doctor Stranger. I remember liking all the aspects of his character he displayed in that drama: young frivolous student, James Bond like hero, hidden hero with incredible skills scrapping by so he could find his true love and BADA, surgeon sneaking into difficult surgery and saving the day — such presence in that first surgery scene.

  50. I remember being so impressed by LSJ In his very small role in secret garden. I think that was the first time I saw him although I don’t think I realized at the time. How famous he Became after that drama.

  51. @SD, dr stranger is one of the rare drama that gave me SFL syndrome. Kang So Ra was so pretty and the new love story with her was really what I wanted. Instead, it comes back with the creepy other woman, an actress that ruin any drama she’s in (bridal mask for example).

  52. I have been wanting to watch the shorter drama where he plays Someone in love with an opera singer. It sounds very sad though. I can cope with sad though with such a great actor.

@WE The quality you mention about transparency is so important to me in connecting with a character.

  53. HS found to solution of the enigma!!!!
    As a cliffhanger.
It ends on her giving an intense gaze to Soo-Ha.
Woo, looks like love, isn’t it?

  54. @WE, I agree regarding the SFL syndrome with this drama. Kang So Ra was a much better match to him personality wise. But the story really demands the the person LJS’s character ends up with. Unless she were to die. That would have worked also.

  55. @SD WE Your comments address why I did not get very far with doctor stranger. I just could not connect with the female lead.

  56. @WE Yes about bridal mask which I really loved except for the female lead.

  57. I just realized LJS played a gay character in secret garden who was in love with Oska(our 2nd male lead in this drama.)

  58. @MM, @WE, I will have to check out the bridal mask. @WE, I also have looked for dramas LJS is in, but I have not gotten very far with my queue, LOL.

I am at the point of the flashback. I realize it is the dialog and situation that clues us in as to this being a flashback, since Do Yeon is asking for advice on a jury trial with a new prosecutor on board and we have just seen the two of them in the court at the very beginning of the trial. I think this must be somewhat difficult to convey well in a drama.

  59. Bridal mask is an excellent drama. Thanks to main actor and action. SFL is pretty like hell and there is a trope I like: SFL bodyguard, a stoic man, but we guess he’s certainly in love with her. ๐Ÿ™‚

  60. My first drama was something in the rain and I was so impressed with the male lead but I have not followed him as much as I have followed others.

@SD Crash landing on you was one of my first dramas.Although I had avoided it for a while because I thought the title was so silly. That was before I realized these drama have multiple titles in Korean and in english and sometimes the translations are not what I would have.Thought really describes the show.

I had already watched HB My name is kim samsoon And secret garden by that point.

  61. In Gaksital, I was really moved by the brother’s arc. He may not be very good looking but he certainly is a good actor.

    There was another.
Earlier melo drama of fame. But I forget the name in which I cried buckets for his character.

  62. Shin Hyun Joon in Stairway to Heaven.

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Bye @SD, @WE and @MM. Thanks for a great rewatch!

  64. Bye @GB. I am still watching.
