Thanks for remembering to open these threads and that we will start a new series immediately. We’ve chosen to continue with Writer Park Hye Ryun who really knows how to write good dramas.
She has her plot well planned with a proper set-up. She offers the pre-figuring of important aspects so it’s great to see the elements re-emerge later to augment the story. Several of her shows offer an interesting supernatural element that is well used to move the plot and character development along. I like that she incorporates humour in the midst of tension. Builds warm relationships and compelling twists. The only thing she does not really bother to do is to make her villain(s) rounder. But we get to know their backstory.
We plan to continue immediately after ‘I Hear Your Voice’ ends. Here’s the schedule for the 16 episodes (I’m stunned that I thought we just started the year but the next 16 episodes will take us into November!!!). Much thanks in advance!!!

Yes, @pkml3, we did do a rewatch of Reset in 2022. It was a great show too! Very repetitive at first but it did get on and come to a good resolution. We continued looking for more time-travel/time jump/transmigration shows before and after that. π
Let me know if you actually manage to continue with it and how you find it.

Good morning! Getting myself set up. Is anyone watching Law and the City with LJS? I am thinking of having a look.
Hi @MM, I’m all set up already and am waiting with YT on the side.
I may take a look at Law and the City just for LJS, but again, not quite right now. There seem to be many shows that are on the waiting list for when I will have some time to check them out.
OK, it just about time!!! Let’s start our party NOW!!!
What is YT?
Hi @GB, Hi @MM
Hi GB. Yes, it’s nice to get in our rewatchs only the best dramas, with the greatest writers. I mean, it’s not only for the pleasure of the rewatch, but also reaching the top level, the ever written best dramas, needing to look more than twice!
Hi @GB @MM.
Hi SD and MM.
We get the episode beginning with a bit of going backwards in time, before SH makes the call to HS. This episode has a few of this going backwards and back to the present. We are helped in our remembering or getting more backstory.
Hi @SD @WE.
Hi @SD, @FF, @WE!!!
LJS putting in a dramatic emotional performance. He’s actually trembling with horror! His eyes are red.
Hi FF.
We start with the classic situation of a blackmail. The vilain kidnapped the love interest of ML.
@MM YT is YouTube.
Now we get more flashbacks to what happened before the kidnapping of HS or rather, she walked into the lion’s den on her own.
“Our story of 11 years came to an end.” That really freaked me out on first watch!
Hi @WE and @FF. I like the backward look in this episode, after SA uses the phone booth: jerky replays of previous scenes further and further back in time.
The voice-over pretending that “their 11 years story reached a end”, like to make us believe that she died. HΓ©-hΓ©-hΓ©, dirty trick from the writer. π
@WE and Everyone, what did SH’s voiceover mean when he said that 2 hours + later their story came to an end? We know it didn’t end with the kidnapping.
YT I thought that was a current drama!
@MM yes… what did it mean ‘our story 11 years in the making came to an end’?
@SD, the show makers bring together for us all the relevant parts so that we know how to piece them together to explain the present situation.
@WE, I wondered if that statement about story coming to an end meant that something significant changed in their original relationship.
It made me think that HS and SH’s story comes to an end–one of them dies.
So Min had the simple plan of having SH’s phone stolen so that he could lure HS to his lair.
She fell for it immediately.
I like how HS’s blouse and phone case matches in colour and even her pink and black shoes with her pink blouse and black skirt.
Flashbacks explaining how she fell in the trap.
Again we are reminded that the murderer plns to go to the end. Setting us up for the suspense!
HS likes pink, think she wore pink pajamas too.
There are 2 clueless people in this show… Sung Bin and Yoo Chang.
I don’t think he really want care for hands, he just want to be with her. ahah! It reminds me “love story in harvard”, when ML follow FL in caricative association, while he’s not that altruist and doesn’t care, but he just want to be with her.
Those days where not having your handphone with you is no big deal.
Shin’s explanation of what HS and Cha are doing by going to the courthouse together is meant for us as well as Yoo Chang.
Min Jung Kook is ever so meticulous, uses SH’s phone to lure HS and uses HS’s phone to lure SH.
@FF, nowadays the phone is wallet as well as phone and access to bank, camera and telegram, etc. Can’t do without it.
@GB yeap, Shin’s explanation did it for me. I was wondering why too.
HS wears expensive heels.
@GB @FF I was about to comment on Lawyer Shin’s comments to Yoo Chang.
Lots of scary set up.
Climbing over a fence in a work skirt and heels, no easy feat! HS is excellent at subterfuge, not so good at asking the right questions (may I hear SH’s voice).
This whole deal with Min now is not revenge alone but mainly to justify himself as being ‘normal’ or okay as a killer. He wants to make SH a killer too so that he can feel justified that he has chosen this path. He wants to ‘prove’ that there was no other decision to make except to kill the one who killed one’s beloved, like he did. What a sad case of having a hurtful and useless objective to live and die by.
@GB, it’s always a trouble to make a phone disapear when this damn phone could create a plot-hole because “hey, just use your phone”. Same with CCTV, DNA and lot of modern other things.
@GB, Min rewatched too much “it’s okay not to be okay”. π
@SD, this episode gives our OTP opportunities to hear each other’s voice.
Killer Min felt that no one heard his voice… his justification for being angry.
Such good story telling. As SH looks in his bag it is the necklace that he is relieved to find and he is not that concerned about his phone. The necklace represents his hopes for their future and we all now what the missing phone means.
@GB, I think it is more than wanting to ‘prove there was no other decision’, I think Min also wants to make SH suffer in exactly the same way he had to suffer. Not only the loss of his loved ones, but the loss of community (having to hide or spend all your time in jail) and the loss of soul (become a killer). It’s a form of vicious revenge.
@WE, I’ve mostly forgotten “It’s Okay not to Be Okay” … special people who are allowed to be themselves and be accepted.
Min is not special, not as if he could not make a different decision. Sad sap to live that way.
@GB that was my style when I was working. Did not look anything like it looks on her though.
@GB, I thought the same about the opportunity to hear Min’s voice; that at least the beginning of the episode focuses on being heard (the newspaper articles, Min’s setup). Literally, almost the first words in the episode are by SH, ‘Let me hear her voice”. HS cluelessly forgets to ask that.
@MM, I wore those skirts too. The zipper also always ended up in front. I was not nearly so sanguine as HS about it though. Also my heels were not nearly so nice.
I do like how the black high heels with the red on the sole match her skirt and blouse.
@SD, yes, Min found the most twisted form of revenge. Whatever decision SH made would impact HS badly. Either SH dies or SH kills…. both unacceptable decisions. It was revenge against both of them who stood up to Min.
He initially only wanted to kill them, but SH’s words saying that he was a beast made him decide to turn SH into a beast as well.
In the process, he’d be able to show that SH was no better than him and that it was perfectly expected that SH should kill him out of revenge.
Judge electric fan on her phone contacts-more humour in the middle of tension
@SD, I still have a couple of those skirts but I won’t wear them LOL. Such a pain when they won’t stay in place and ride up too!
The scene of the last words of HS’s mum appeared so many times in this drama.
As a nice vilain, Min gives a speech to HS.
Any good vilain should does good speechs. AHAH.
@MM I missed that! ‘Judge electric fan!!!’ LOL.
Even HS points out that Min has spent 11 years in hell by the choice he made.
@FF, it has to be said that this scene is traumatizing.
@GB, HS has a speech with the same vide than her mother.
It will makes him mad.
@FF, I guess that’s one of the messages that Writer Park is sending in this drama, hence we see that scene of HS’s mum many times.
At least SH has to sense to call for help.
Once again it’s poor Cha who has to save everyone. Even Min wants Cha to listen to him and defend him.
I can’t remember now if she had a back up plan? I hope she did not go without one. She has her police contacts, unlike me.
@WE, HS and her mum both say about the same thing to Min. He expected mum to be upset that HS had testified against him and that led to him killing mum, but her reaction was the total opposite. She was proud of HS.
Now HS tells Min that again his expectation of SH is wrong and she’s proud of SH who won’t turn into a beast like Min.
@MM, HS did not even want the police to know that she was running off to see Min. She had no backup plan!
@WE, another nice long speech for Min and his backstory in more detail. He’s mainly feeling sorry for himself and justifying why he’s a beast… he implies that it’s the fault of others, when he made the choice. What a loser!
@WE, Cha as you said, is such a good guy but this Show only uses him and gives him no reward LOL.
He’s good to everyone, even Min but he only ends up defending Min!
@GB, I wouldn’t say he’s a looser, because his trauma is real, but anyway, it’s a pathetic humain being who made to wrong choices until the end, and doesn’t want change that.
very interesting to see Min’s side of the phone booth desperation call.
MJK wants SH to kill him? He won’t get to see SH go to jail then!
@GB, Baaah, Cha is ok, he could meet the woman of his dreams in “Fair Lady”, even if she could be quite harsh with him in first episodes, LOL.
@WE, being a loser referred to Min trying to blame others for his own actions that no one forced upon him.
I acknowledge that he suffered but so do many other people and so did SH and HS. They have the actual right to blame Min. He has no right to blame HS for his mother’s and son’s death when he ended up in jail.
Min want the proof that everything he has done is okay, even if it means he dies. Quite a good madman.
SH shows his maturity in his thinking around this kidnapping even though he has such an emotional response.
It was so intense that I forgot about SH’s mind reading ability and the connection with one’s eyes and MJK’s sunglasses.
@FF, Min only wants to know that SH committed murder, like he did, so that he feels ‘good’ that he’s not the only beast.
@WE, even SH gives Min a good pep talk saying his wife would have been in pain knowing what a mess he’d made of his life.
Good sharp shooters from the police special squad!
Nearly half way through this episode before we are back where we started, but a very good use of the time. We watch fully how HS falls for Min’s trick, have a brief moment of humor (Judge Electric Fan), back story on how SH learns about Cha telling HS about his father, the creepy scene where HS walks up into an empty building in heels (!!) with her useless taser, then Min walking directly behind her matching her footsteps), and then the repeat of SH’s phone call from Min’s perspective.
@MM, SH really is the more mature between him and Min.
SH reads the backstory in Min’s eyes but we see it in flashback. I wonder how SH’s dad managed to get the heart for his wife first if it had been Min’s wife’s turn.
@FF, LOL… yes this to end it all scene is very gripping!
Great moment. Min put back his glasses. SO So-Haa see the moment the most hurtful of his life, like a testimony.
Fury of flashbacks coming from all the drama. LOOOL.
@WE yes, SH sees the pain Min suffered and wants to keep him from suicide.
He did hear Min’s voice.
Then we come to Do Yeon refusing to care about Min at all. Only Cha still finds Min pitiful.
In her mother’s dying speech, she says others are jealous. Now I understand the use of the term. Min does have regret about how he behaved but not for the effect on other but for how it has affected him. He wants SH to go down the same mistaken path- jealous revenge, not only vindication.
FL faints, well, she can.
But it creates a confusion. Soo-Haa thinks she’s dead.
Magically the rescue cushion is already set up and at the right spot.
@WE SH hysterical over HS’s being carried into the ambulance and now in hospital.
Theme of having someone to care about and who cared for one so that one would have their voice heard.
Juxtaposing of Min without anyone and SH and HS embracing each other and HS saying she heard his voice.
@FF, the police managed all that within an hour and a half and were just waiting for Min to make a move.
Cha’s voice over when SH was searching for HS in the hospital does feels kind of sad.
@FF, This show has the ability to make us pity the villain, despite being so vile.
I got so caught up in her designer outfit that I had not carefully read the previous comments about Min’s motivation. The final straw was to be called a beast.
All three are heroic. Both HS and SH go to meet Min afraid for the other and afraid themselves. Cha, though, is the true Hero. SH asks Cha to save him and HS; Cha steps up. Not only to help HS, but knowing full well that if he saves SH and HS he will likely lose SH.
@MM — good thought about jealous revenge vs. vindication. I think that idea fits. I will think on it further.
Ends in hugs, tenderness, and everything so sweet. π
I am behind but I watched recently so I will try to catch up.
@GB, ah yeah, I missed that, but “heard your voice”. Damn-it, the reminder of the drama title. This writer never miss any occasion. π
I thought it should end here but we have another episode. lol
Ahhh So it is Cha who uses reason and has the police experience.
As usual, I have fallen behind. We just say Min threatening HS with the wrench but not using it, now in a quick flash we see Min with the wrench with some blood on it. Nice editing. Now I am wondering if it is in the screenplay like that.
What a relief to have the police planning for eventualities.
So how did the articles result in SH’s father getting the heart? Positive press for the doctor hospital?
@SD, I feel it was both jealous revenge and a desire for vindication.
For a moment we think he really killed her.
@SD, @FF, @MM have you watched the next series for our party? “While You were Sleeping” is another good one. I forgot so much of it.
@MM Min made sure to get HS’s blood on his spanner. What a terrible test for SH with Min urging him to kill.
The telescope on the swat gun focuses on SH holding the bloody wrench. Would they shoot him?
@GB, I have not watched While You Were Sleeping, but it has been on my watch list for a long time. I will get through a couple episodes at least before we start. I have to miss the first episode though as I will be in a place without cell service or satellite.
He hears her voice in his memory and stops himself. Did someone refer to this above?
@MM that rooftop scene is the most suspenseful all round. Who will kill whom?
Great @SD… now you have an impetus to start watching WYWS.
@MM No I only referred to them hearing each other’s voices in the present, not in memory. Yes, good point! Her voice in his memory stops him from killing. That time he regretted accidentally stabbing HS as well. It was yet another traumatic event that he should not forget, … and yet they all did.
Bye everyone! I’m falling asleep so I’ll head off to bed and come back to read you tmr.
Bye @GB
I can’t remember if we know there is an inflatable or not. There may be a view of the edge of it in a earlier scene when the police arrive or a discussion of it by the police. Watching the scene though I am still scared when SH goes over with Min. Nor only did he not kill Min, he tries to prevent him from suicide.
I’ve to go now, and wish you a good week until the finale. An episode of -I guess- will be full of good feeling and finish all storylines, as writer Park usualy does, in a NOT boring way.
Even though we know she fainted, SH has some more terrified moments when he sees her in the stretcher.
These memories of Min that SH sees are where I have the most sadness for Min. Just as he is threatening murder and suicide. Again what great writing.
Bye @WE
And then we see Cha’s flashback and he says how he has a tiny bit of pity for him. YS thinks that is ridiculous. Then when SH tumbles out of the ambulance Cha asks her if she know the difference between Min and SH. She says she does not want to know. Definitely did not attend or think about her forensic psychology classes, if they had them.
Bye @MM and @FF. See you next week.
So it was the story of the three of them that had ended.
Transplant ejection-gave me the shivers when he says that.
Their closeness in the er stretcher scene is so palpable.
The drama does not ease up on us though with the parking lot stabbing scene surfacing again.
Done for today!
@MM. Just checking one more time before I close out my day. Transplant rejection. It’s a big problem in all transplant, but for obvious reasons a larger issue for heart transplant.
@WE
I was thinking about the screenplay aspect. One would think (I would think) that repeating a phrase as many times as is done in this episode (“I hear your voice”) would be overkill. I would be cutting at least a few repeats, I think. But it really works here. Like a drumbeat.
@GB, I fell asleep after the episode ended. I have started watching While You Were Sleeping and I think it is a good choice for re-watch with casts I like.
