What Are We Watching in September 2025?

September seems to be a busy month for new kdramas and cdramas. I’m still watching “Legend of the Female General” and “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty” so the best I can do is watch the premieres of these new shows and see if they’re “worthy” of my time and attention.

1. My Youth

The write-up from soompi:

“My Youth” is a romance drama that tells the story of Sunwoo Hae (Song Joong Ki), who begins to live an ordinary life later than most people, and Sung Je Yeon (Chun Woo Hee), who must disrupt her first love’s tranquility for her own success….. A former child star who burned through the prime of his life too quickly, florist Sunwoo Hae started an ordinary life later than most. For Sunwoo Hae, who spent his youth in a dark, difficult time, the daily routine of roaming the flower market at dawn and tending to plants during the day is peaceful happiness itself.

I’m watching this primarily for SJK. He strikes me as the Korean version “Peter Pan,” refusing to grow up and shed his “lost boy” image.

Starring: Song JoongKi and Chung WooHee (“A Typical Family”)
Episodes: 12
Start Date: Fri, September 5
Airs on Fridays and Saturdays (or two episodes on Fridays??)
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: jTBC

2. The Tempest

This series got me curious because it stars Kang DongWon opposite Jun JiHyun (“Jirisan” and “My Love from the Star”) KDW rarely does TV series. The first and last time I watched him in a kdrama was in the original “Something about 1%” (2004).

The summary from soompi:

“Tempest” follows Moon Ju (Jun Ji Hyun), a renowned UN ambassador who sets out to uncover the truth behind an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate, and San Ho (Kang Dong Won), a special agent of unknown nationality who must protect her, as they confront a massive truth that threatens the Korean Peninsula.

Episodes: 9
Start Date: Wednesday, September 10
Airs on Wednesdays
Where to Watch it: Disney+ (Huh?! On Disney+??? I’m not watching it)
Network: Disney+

3. A Hundred Memories

I’m sure this will be a tearjerker but that’s okay. I get bad allergies in the fall, and a good cry will help clear up my sinuses. I like a kdrama on sisterhood and the show will suit the autumn vibes.

The blurb from soompi:

Set in the 1980s, “A Hundred Memories” is a nostalgic coming-of-age romance drama about the friendship between two young bus attendants, Go Young Rye (Kim Da Mi) and Seo Jong Hee (Shin Ye Eun), and their shared first love Han Jae Pil (Heo Nam Jun).

Source: soompi

Starring: Kim Da Mi (“Our Beloved Summer”), Shin Ye Eun (“He is Psychometric”) Heo Nam Jun (the muscular orabeoni in “The Matchmakers”)
Episodes: 12
Start Date: Saturday, September 13
Airs on Saturdays and Sundays
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: jTBC

4. You and Everything Else

If “A Hundred Memories” doesn’t pan out for me, here’s another one. However, one of the girls has terminal illness so I’m not sure I’m up for this. Will check it out the premiere for Kim Go Eun.

Write-up from soompi:

During their elementary school years, Eun Joong meets Sang Yeon, who appears to have it all—wealth and talent—sparking both admiration and jealousy in Eun Joong. Despite these mixed emotions, they become best friends. Their bond, filled with love and animosity, endures through multiple separations and reunions, spanning their teens, 20s, and 30s. At 42, they find themselves reunited once again. Eun Joong, now a screenwriter, meets Sang Yeon, a successful filmmaker, who asks her to join her as she faces terminal cancer and plans her death with dignity. Their story revisits their shared journey, exploring how they’ve deeply influenced each other’s lives, from childhood to adulthood, with a focus on their enduring connection.

Source: soompi

Starring: Kim Go Eun (“Goblin,” “Little Women” and “Yumi’s Cells”) and Park JiHyun (her face looks familiar but I can’t place her right now)
Episodes: 15
Start Date: Friday, September 12
Airs on Fridays
Where to Watch it: Netflix
Network: Netflix

5. Shin’s Project

This one sounds fun. I’m watching it for Han Suk Kyu.

The write-up from soompi:

“Shin’s Project” is a new drama starring Han Suk Kyu as Mr. Shin, a former legendary negotiator who now runs a modest chicken restaurant while hiding a mysterious secret. A neighborhood hero who takes it upon himself to mediate conflicts and assist people through seemingly unwinnable situations, Mr. Shin willingly jumps into other people’s conflicts to settle their problems and deliver justice.

Speaking about his character, Han Suk Kyu shared, “What I felt most strongly while playing this role was his striking duality. On the surface, he appears easygoing and cheerful, but in crucial moments, he becomes surprisingly firm and sharp.”

Source: soompi

Starring: Han Seok Kyu (“Dr. Romantic”)
Episodes: 12
Start Date: Monday, September 15
Airs on Mondays and Tuesdays
Where to Watch it: Viki (hopefully)
Network: tvN

Are for cdramas, I have reserved Zhang Linghe’s upcoming series, “Zhu Yu” on iQIYI. I don’t know when it’ll start airing. I hope it’s good since I haven’t really been drawn to his other projects like, “The Princess Royal,” “The Best Thing” and “Our Generation.”

I know Cheng Lei (aka Ryan Cheng) has another cdrama out right now called “Shadow Love” but I don’t want to start it until a) I’m done with “Legends of a Female General” and b) have taken a break from him for a month. A cooling-off period is sensible as I don’t want to oversaturate myself with his image onscreen.

What about you? What are you watching this month?

  1. Kalimera @Packmule3 et al!

Let us have a nice month! I do hope September will be a better month for everyone.

I am not watching kdramas for some time now. I am watching mostly cdramas, doramas or anime and western dramas like Dept. Q and Art Detectives. I take breaks in between.

I have yet to finish the last 3 episodes of “The Legend of The Female General” and I have paused the “Moonlit Reunion”. I am resting whenever I can. So, not TV for me.

If I am going to watch anything that would be Kim Go Eun’s You and Everything Else.

    That’s all for now…

  2. I am interested in “A Hundred Memories.”

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m not sure I’ll continue watching “Twelve” because the pacing is not great and the story is not really anything much. Just good ‘angels’ who are weak against evil ‘demons’ and the baddest demon played by Park Hyung Shik. There are fight scenes against demons and humans too (so if anyone likes to watch azz kicking, this is the show for you).

There’s a dilemma for the ‘angels’ because they exist to protect humans, but humans were also the cause of the death of 4 of the ‘angels’. Angel boss does not want to care about humans anymore, but let’s see how long he can hold off on this.

I started this for Ma Dong Suk, Seo In Guk, Park Hyung Shik and Sung Dong Il. I don’t really know the actresses. If I continue it’s to see what the 4 guys will do. Of course I expect the weak good guys to beat the strong bad demons. I’m past Ep 3 now and still don’t know what bad stuff PHS’s character will do.

I’m still enjoying the “While You Were Sleeping” Rewatch!!

  4. I am planning to try out the viki/netflixes above.

My Youth, likewise abt SJK and I liked Chun Woo Hee in Delightfully Deceitful, recently revived in my Netflix feed.

You and Everything Else, KGE in anything for her shining face, Ji Hyun was the prosecutor FL in Reborn Rich.

A Hundred Memories — I have been curious about the felt experience of SK in the 80’s up to the beginning of the Hallyu. Shin Ye Eun was strong in He Is Psychometric.

Although I keep saying I will swear off cdramas, I am tempted to give into the siren call of a 12ep series (45-er) with love across time– Twelve Letters (viki). While You Were Sleeping rewatch is a lot of fun, and I am hankering for sim.

I finally started Twinkling Watermelon, despite it being a high school drama. Music and whether we hear it.

Since I also live in a crime-ridden/spy and politics B-movie space in several other languages, decisions will have to be be made, especially since October and November are packed with enticement in the kdrama world.

    R&R to build up strength…?

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @IB, I’ve started Twelve Letters and definitely prefer the first episode to ‘Twelve’. I thought there were shades of the Lakehouse with a cat instead of a dog spanning the decades (not just a few years but practically a lifetime!)

At least the first episode is intriguing and has me interested in watching more, unlike ‘Twelve’.

  6. @GB: I commiserate with you re Twelve! You’re right on pacing – I’m also at episode 3 and struggling to continue my investment in the show. I also find the CGI quite underwhelming for what is a Disney+ production (compared to Moving anyway).

Prior to Twelve, I did watch a continuous stream of Takeru Satoh dramas post Glass Heart… it was Marry My Husband, then First Love and I have heart-eyes for the man despite the screen saturation.

I’m also keeping an eye out for Shin’s Project.

  7. Hello @Ibisfeather,

Twinkling Watermelon is a must show to watch. I love it. Everyone who was watching it during its airing time, did too.I hope you will enjoy it!

  8. Unnie kalispera!

I have heard others to say that “Twelve” is disappointing. I don’t have a subscription to Disney Plus any longer. And it is not open for Greece, as far as I know.

As for “Twelve Letters”, one of my friends told me that is pretty good.

  9. Thank you @Cleopatra and @GB!

  10. @Swiss_Postscripts,

I downloaded the whole series of Takeru Satoh’s “Marry My Husband” but ended up watching “Reset” instead.

In my October line-up of dramas, there’s a Japanese actor I want to introduce to all of you who I think is comparable to Takeru Satoh. He’s Oguri Shun.

He’s just as low-key and scruffy-looking as Takeru and cleans up just as well. I actually began watching Takeru in that Incurable Love dorama because I confused him for Oguri Shun. lol.

Oguri Shun’s October dorama is “Romantics Anonymous.” He plays opposite Korean actress, Han HyoJoo (“Happiness”).

    https://youtu.be/dISuukYg42M?si=_W2_5NctghIaes3O

So if your eyes are tired of Takeru Satoh, take a break and preview Oguri Shun in “Rich Man, Poor Man” (2012). He was also one of the F4 guys in the Japanese version of “Boys Over Flowers” but I don’t recommend that show.

  11. Thanks, @Cleopatra. I heard good things about “Twinkling Watermelon.” I’ll put it on my list of “To Watch” shows.

  12. @packmule3: yes I have pinned “Romantics Anonymous” – actually for Han Hyo Joo whom I loved in “Moving”. thanks for pointing me in the Oguri Shun direction – I am definitely not tired of Takeru at this point…. yet 🙂

  13. sorry for the secondary post, but “Legend of the Female General” has arrived on Netflix in Singapore, so I will put the lid on “Twelve” and start on this.

  14. I just learned that Gong Yoo has a guest role in the film Love Untangled, which is showing on Netflix in the USA, so I’m going to give it a look-see.

  15. @Welmaris, not just Gong-yoo but Jung Yu-mi as well. They played as a couple in the movie Kim Ji Young Born In 1982 and also starred in Train to Busan. Love Untangled is set in Busan and coincidentally, both Gong Yoo and Jung Yu-mi are Busan natives. That’s why they’re asked if they can play cameo in Love Untangled.

  16. Just watched My Youth ep1&2. I liked it, altho the real tearjerker was the back story in ep.2 which Nam Da Reum pretty much carried off — he has thinned down since military service, once again playing the younger version of the ML. Why he doesnt get adult roles is beyond me. Its a little comical in this match up since he doesnt resemble SJK at all.
………….lets see how the main couple shapes up next weekend.

  17. Hello, I need to scream something from the rooftops!

    I’ve FINISHED the re-writing of W Four Worlds!!! 🥳

In reality, I still have editing passes to do on the last 12 episodes. 😅
    Then, add images and translate.
A few things to modify on the whole as well. (on my checklist)

    I did a translation anyway because…

… I registered it on the American copyright site!
In addition to the French SACD site for audiovisual works.
    International Berne Convention. 🧐

    Here are the drama’s stats:
    54 episodes.
    Episodes 1 to 13: ~30 minutes each.
    Episodes 14 to 35: ~45 minutes each.
    Episodes 36 to 54: ~60 minutes each.

In English, total number of characters: 2,787,095.
With an average of 1150 characters / minute.
(number estimated from a large number of famous screenplays)

    It’s a 40-hour drama!!! 🤯

It’s the size of Alchemy of Souls, season 1 and 2 combined.

  18. Wow! Congratulations, @WEnchanteur!

    🎉👏🍾🥂 🎉👏🍾👏

You surely put in a lot of time, energy, and thought on this baby of yours. I wish you all the best!

  19. @Pm3. Thanks.
I don’t know the time. I’m on it since 2017 when I got the first ideas-storm.
Did a structure the next year, wrote the whole in 2018 maybe, and/or 2019 ?
Then learned a lot more about screenwriting.
Then did rewriting, I don’t know since when, 2022 maybe.
With period of pauses, weeks, even months sometimes.

Here for a 60 minutes episode, I was on vacation.
It took me a full week to rewrite one episode. (without editing pass).
And doing it everyday, almost all the day. At least 8 hours/day.
And I had some weeks of holidays, doing just that.
If I’m working, of course, divide my writing time by two.

Then I work slowly because it’s rewriting, so I need to be best quality.
I can’t say “just do it then I’ll fix it later”.
First draft was like that, even if in my mind, I had the feeling to do good.
(hum, after years, all the mistakes jumped to me)
Structure, scene order, all of this must be accurate.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Surprise! I’m watching “You and Everything Else”. All the episodes were dropped at once!

It’s not exactly the kind of show I’d usually sign up for. The presence of Kim Go Eun lured me in and the emotional beats (lots of them) kept me coming back.

I won’t call this an easy watch, but it’s compelling once the emotional investment kicks in. I guess I’ve had enough light and happy and can take the heavier and sadder stuff for a while.

  21. I started it too! The first episode of “You and Everything Else” passed in a moment, then the second, and I looked up in shock to see the clock hands had advanced again. It has been a while since I was so immersed as to lose track of time.

(However I will wait for a few days until I can watch a larger chunk all at once)

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Ibisfeather, “You and Everything Else” remains as compelling as it is kind of painful, but it’s hard to look away. I’m on Ep 8 now.

  23. news from the front: A Hundred Memories is wickedly cute and ended ep2 with a daring and innocent visit to see Aema! For its sentimentality but earthiness it makes me think of the old Call the Midwife series (scratch hat comment if you hated CtMf).

  24. I loved call the midwife.

  25. Red Alert For all you time travellers out there. On Thursday, MOBIUS, a cdrama netflix/iQiYi with a super loopy plot just popped up. Bai Jing Ting too. Article on mdl today.

  26. @ibisfeather,

I am watching A Hundred Memories and loving it so far. I like the 80s vibe. Makes me think of my own childhood.

  27. @GB, Just finished You and Everything Else. Feeling a little incapacitated. The kryptonite of really powerful acting. Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun should be showered with awards for this show.

I am the OUG, the oldest unmarried girl, so I have been the designated attendant for both parents and my middle sister (who fought stage 4 cancer for almost seven years) while they died at home as they wished (‘naturally’ whatever that means). That made the end of this show particularly meaningful and somewhat problematic, for me, but for BODers several trigger warnings may be applicable, so check under the spoiler veils in the comments before you start.

Theatre and melodrama at its best, thought-provoking, complicated and very very sensitive to the ambiguities of human interactions.

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, thank you for sharing from your own experiences. It must have been painful both to go through what you did in real life and then to watch this series. May you have become a more compassionate and stronger person for it!

I reviewed this series for myself and posted it on the Fangurl Verdict.

    You and Everything Else
Review of the first 8 Episodes
This is one of those dramas where it’s best that viewers know in advance the amount of emotional investment needed. Once prepared, it’s a compelling watch: honest, painful but I cannot look away. I can guess what’s coming up, but I still want to watch for the resolution of the complicated relationships.

The actors of course are crucial in such a set up and they inhabit their characters magnificently while carrying the emotionally charged scenes immensely well. Since I end up feeling so much for their characters, I can’t imagine what an emotional toll it must have taken out of the actors themselves as well.

This series is rich with pathos, pensive but gentle. It seems on one hand that nothing is happening but with an avalanche of emotions I found myself quickly into 8 episodes with only a couple of breaks. I have yet to watch until the end, but it looks like this is a worthwhile watch for anyone who’s willing to walk the slow, deeply emotional road and sit with the characters’ pain and growth.

Review of the final 7 Episodes
I completed the series within 2 days. It was haunting and beautiful, but not an easy watch. Among the themes, it explored the effects of suicide on the lives of those left behind. It looked at what friendship meant, and on how what we choose to think imprisons or frees us.

I liked that while there was so much going on emotionally, there was very little if any melodrama: nothing too over-the-top. Instead we were given characters that were more real, reasonable and true-to-life; who were relatable, and whose motives we could understand. There were no villains, just hostages to fortune.

Although it was a serious show, dealing with darker topics and far from light, it did not feel onerous or depressing. It treated difficult topics with dignity and got me thinking long and hard in its aftermath. I’m glad I watched it, and might even watch it again.”

  29. I reposted this on the blog, @GB.

  30. dear @GB thanks for your sympathy. Death is never pretty and is one of life’s wounds. What one does with it depends on who one is, and I am not much of a great soul, I know my place. So I turned to action movies!

I feel refreshed after the whiplash of speed-watching Alienoid 1 and 2. Woo-Bin as a robot was relaxation as I gleefully flexed my new time-travel forbearance muscles developed in the saturday rewatch. Back and forth and upsie-downsies in the air with Taoists and monsters, from early Hanyang to downtown 2022 Seoul. They should have made a miniseries of it.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

More on “Romantics Anonymous” from the Fangirl Verdict and a trailer:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FAm86H2IY4

    “Synopsis:
The story kicks off with a chance encounter between a man and a woman sparked by their mutual love for chocolate. The catch? Both live with their own anxiety disorders. The man can’t physically touch others, while the woman can’t make eye contact, making their budding relationship both challenging and endearing.

Fujiwara Sosuke is the new representative of the popular chocolate shop “Le Sauveur” and the son of a major confectionery magnate. Sosuke’s germophobia, stemming from a traumatic past, complicates his new job. Lee Ha Na is a gifted chocolatier who conceals her identity from the Le Sauveur members, except for the owner, and battles her own fears of social interactions.

Irene is a renowned psychologist and author who not only serves as Sosuke’s primary physician but also becomes a counselor to Ha Na, helping her navigate her challenges. Despite her professional success, Irene faces her own struggles with alcoholism and romantic relationships. Takada Hiroshi is the owner of the bar “Brush,” whom Ha Na secretly harbors feelings for. He has been friends with Sosuke since their school days and has had a close relationship with the original owner of “Le Sauveur”, Hana’s mentor.

    Episodes: 8
    Airs: Oct 16, 2025
    Original Network: Netflix
Starring: Oguri Shun, Han Hyo Joo”

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Suddenly I am watching a cdrama, “Mobius” (2025) because it has a similar time-loop premise as ‘Reset’ that I liked. Same actor even! Bai Jing Ting does a great job as an ‘action’ hero detective. All the 16 episodes are out on iQiyi, Viki, Netflix. The other draw is that it’s only 16 episodes long which is better than 30!

Actors: Bai Jing Ting, Janice Man, Song Yang
The first episode was explosive (literally and figuratively) and I found that I’d finished 3 episodes fairly quickly and gotten invested in solving how to do it right in the next time loop. That was one of the rewarding things about Reset and now this show, that the protagonists learn from each time loop and improve on what to do.

The more interesting difference here is that the time loops only happen perhaps once a month and at any day, looping just the last 24 hours, and then there are only 5 loops each time. Also, our hero may not be the only one looping back and able to change events.

I did try ‘A Hundred Memories’ as well and while it did not grab me at first, I’ve made it to Episode 4. We see the making of memories from the point of view of the main female lead, and find out about her peers who were closest to her. I’m not as invested as I should be at this stage, and I wonder why. Hence I tried Mobius instead!

  33. @GrowingBeautifully, I’m also watching, and hooked by, Mobius. I do want to warn @Packmule3 that bullets fly often in this story, so she may want to skip it for now. I’m surprised at the high volume of munitions in this drama, being that it is a Chinese production.

  34. I watched the South Korean movie Love Untangled, intrigued after I learned Gong Yoo has a cameo. Having grown up in the 1960s when straight, long hair was fashionable (thanks to Peggy Lipton of Mod Squad), I feel for the female lead in this story. But I’m glad this drama doesn’t put all its focus on appearance; the FL’s discomfort with her curly hair is a springboard for her to learn more about herself.

I’ve seen this actress, Shin Eun Soo, as a 2FL and supporting actress in a number of Kdramas, but this is the first time I’ve seen her as 1FL. She does well, fleshing out her character into someone I can imagine meeting in real life.

  35. @GrowingBeautifully, you said you appreciate that Mobius is only 16 episodes long. I’ve just completed Episode 16, and a door has been opened for another season, I believe. All the threads seem to be tied up, then… cliffhanger.

Although we’re not supposed to root for them, I think two of the best performances in Mobius were turned in by actors playing bad guys. Song Yang, in the role of Mo Yuan Zhi, has tremendous presence onscreen, even when they put him in a bad wig. His rage, his cold calculation, his grief, are gripping to watch. Han Li, who played hitman Ye Kun, oozes languid menace.

  36. Will open a thread for you, @GB and @Welmaris. Hold a sec. –pm3
