@WE, many thanks! I’m torn between reading the script and watching the episodes before our party in 8 hours time!!

  6. I don’t know where to post that, maybe in “what you are watching” ?
I made Grok-Imagine animations with images from W Four Worlds, and it’s WOO !!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
Here my post on X, about Queen of Darkness :
    https://x.com/EnchanteurW/status/1992186010000633959

Don’t you dream to see that in a kdrama?!
She smashes the screen so hard!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  7. Hi GB and WE, ignore me I am checking to see if everything is working.

  8. In the style, “you’d dream to see that in a kdrama”, I also posted that:
    https://x.com/EnchanteurW/status/1992225476723585277

Animations of Ren-Bo, aka Butterfly Girl.
There are a little more spoilers in this article.
But it’s so amazing!!! It feels real.

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, it must be nice to see onscreen the ideas that you only had in your mind. Congrats and what fun!

  10. I am here

  11. Hi GB, MM, and IF.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Okay it’s time!!! We start now with another cold open to is it a dream or is it reality? We see Dad Seo wake up with a start, trembling. Is it his dream?

Maybe it was quite accurate since the dead Jung Ah was found dead among trees in some kind of forested area not far from Seo’s home.

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @MM! @IB!

Poor Dad Seo gets a lawyer who does not even believe him innocent from the start.

  14. It’s a dream, and looks like this damn scene isn’t in the script. But it’s okay as first scene is in prison, so it introduces the meeting Jin-Woo and his father, and next the lawyer.

  15. I think the dream here continues or introduces the notion that dad is not sure if maybe he did kill her, since he cannot remember anything. So maybe director inserted?

  16. It needs a LOT of “luck” to have the sister of the villain (and real murderer) being in the trial public nominees. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. @GB
    re the dream’s details
purposefully misleading, a feeling of quick doubt over Dad’s memory?

especially since the incompetent lawyer doesnt walk him through the details of his testimony. Grrr.

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We see the challenges defendants are up against starting from when the the attitude of the lawyer is to plead guilty to reduce the sentence, and of juror, Nam Yeo Kyung (Nam Gyu Min’s sister) which is that the trial is fun and a game.

This is one of the main themes… that the law does not work out fairly because of the wrong or evil attitudes taken by various parties.

  19. Bad start asking the son to leave.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM that could be the case about the ‘dream’. It looks like it could have been true, but Dad Seo likely never witnessed all that.

  21. Hi all, Shoot I’m starting late and I am always ending late!

  22. Hello everyone, me here too.

  23. I am surprised the father is so clear about his confession being forced.

  24. In those good old days, there were a lot of “violin music of destiny” like in the eggs scene. By the way, there was one also in “I hear your voice”.

Oh damn, the “URK~~” is in the script. ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, too much luck. Dramas are always rife with coincidences in order for the plot to get somewhere it needs to, I guess.

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, Being misleading and in fact, a certain degree of misdirection seems to be the style of this drama. So the dream that is not a dream is consistent with this.

Later on we will find that we are led to feel the ups and downs because we are being misled.

  27. re the daughter/luck… She, a rotten chaebol, thinks justice is a game and its fun…the audience as unsympathetic, seeing justice as entertainment spectacle, they happily laugh at the stutter.

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hello @SD, I’m pausing in between viewing so I may end a bit later.

  29. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF! I’m at the trial 13-14 minutes in.

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM the father seems to have memory that comes and goes. I think under stress he forgets.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @WE, what URK???

  32. These sceness in front of the court house where the public is allowed to harrass the accused reflect real lfe scenarios. Maybe it was about the Mister ML or someone else in the last few years where I read such a situation played a role in a bad ourcome for the accused.

  33. In a kind of miracle, AI was able to translate well this line:
    SONG JAE-IK: (rising from his seat) We… (struggling to spit out each syllable) do… not… a… a… admit… a… all… the… pro… pro… se… cu… tion’s… facts…. (finishing with difficulty and adding) We… claim… in… no… cence.. (collapsing into his seat)
    ๐Ÿ˜€

We get a series of flashbacks in the forest.
It was done by cutting the main scene in different scenes instead to use INSERTS. Maybe INSERTS are used only for “recall” type flashbacks.

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, yes the set up is all to be set against poor Dad Seo. Even when Jung Ah’s father attacks him, no one dad to properly help him until Park Dong Ha steps forward.

  35. Dong Ho in the audience wincing at the useless attorney. His professionalism at the fore. Lays the groundwork for his nuanced charactor.

  36. @GB: when the lawyer burps in the bathroom.

  37. His memory ups and downs are conveniences for the script but that is necessary to the story.

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, yes the public show of rage often seems to be unwisely allowed. They ignite others and tend to sway judgement as well all based on mainly emotions. Very unwise. Often very unfair. So the justice in this justice system is already very skewed against innocent people like Dad Seo.

  39. @WE lol I always wondered how scripted farts and burps are/what they look like in the script, since they are crucial in broad comedy.

  40. @GB, I am at about 11mins. The defence lawyer feels like sham to me, stuttering and could not put up any defence.

  41. No doubt, the story was planned start to finish. For proof, they visit the same day the funerarium, because their closest ones died same day, and it’s not a coincidence. Ahahhhhhhhh.

  42. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @WE Hah! The loud belch.

I felt that the script made the Nam sister sound that she was affected by Jin Ah’s rebuke before getting into the car, but the way it is acted, she is nonchalant. So I wonder … did Grok get it wrong?

  43. Guilty unless proven innocent.

  44. When the oucrtroom is told to all stand the foreboding music made me scared as though this could happen to me

  45. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB PDH is the complicated character with conflicting loyalties. We are shown that he starts off more good than bad and is mostly a grey character.

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, definitely we can tell that everything was planned. Where each person happened to be so that they meet etc… very intentional.

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, that’s the way with this show over and over… everyone decides he is guilty, especially after the forced confession.

  48. I cannot remember if dong HO has foreknowledge of this trial or he attends because of the encounter in the bathroom.

I did watch a fe weeks ago but did not finish last week’s rewatch.

  49. What is the judge doing in the court room? Why does he allow the commotion to take place and did not order the security to stop the man and send him out of the court room? Why did he not remind the crowd to be silent?

It is such an unfair trial.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, a lot of things don’t seem ‘right’ about the trial and the people involved in the law-justice system.

  51. The scene on the rooftop is so great, 4 excellent actors timing taking it out of the soap opera level..(just watched NM in a romcom from the same year, but the production/quality of the cast is light years apart).

That lost tooth grows back later.

  52. @GB, I watched a few episodes ahead and I cannot find a word to properly describe how I feel about it. Things just keep going the wrong way, the bad guys always have a way to makes things turn bad for innocent ones.

  53. Once again a condom is a turning point in a trial. I think that was from my recent watch of Light Beyond the Reeds.

I find it difficult to think his defense is so poor. Forensic psychiatric evaluation? No question as to whether he would be physically capabable. I guess because the odds are stacked against him when he is chosen from the files to be the culprit.

  54. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF one of the descriptive words for this show was gut-wrenching. It plays with our emotions.

  55. @GB, I’d need to know the exact line, but I don’t think there could be this kind of translation problem. I chose to not doing “concise” but get all the details.

We get a spectacular scene now, on the roof.
With conflict! Nam Gyu-Man VS Park Dong-Ho.

    Nice line in the script:
Nam Gyu-Man grabs Park Dong-Ho’s collar and drags him toward the railing.
The building under construction lacks fences. One misstep, and it’s straight down 60 floors.

  56. Donho is very useful here in the peanut gallery.

  57. Young Park Dong-Ho’s actor is the asshole NK soldier in Snowdrop. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  58. The defense lawyer is using the court as exposure therapy for his stutter!

  59. This “stopping car” scene has to be under a heavy rain. ๐Ÿ™‚

  60. NB — Gyu-Man asks Dong-Ho is he is undertaking such trouble bec Boos Seok is like his father? With a glittery blank look of NM…And we get the backstory on how Boss Seok is the father-replacement (ironically)..

  61. This white truck doesn’t come from nowhere.
But anyway, IT HAS TO BE a WHITE TRUCK !!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    — we don’t get slow motion, more a director task:
The signal changes; Seo Jae-Hyuk starts.
At that instant, a truck from the opposite lane runs the red light. CRASH!!!
With an ear-splitting explosion, it rams the vehicle’s side.

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE the scene is this one which I edited to shorten. The part that says “YEO-KYUNG: (as if hit hard) !!” made me think that she would take the words of In Ah seriously. However it seems I’m wrong.

However the last part, … the words Yeo-Kyung says might seem to point to her more serious attitude, but actually it can also be played as indifferent rather than sincere.

    “#23. COURTHOUSE OUTSIDE (AFTERNOON)

In-A watches Seo Jae-Hyuk boarding the transport van with a heartbroken expression. Yeo-Kyung approaches.

YEO-KYUNG: Want to bet while we’re at it?
    IN-A: What?

YEO-KYUNG: I think that guy’s the culprit. Evidence, self-report all solid. But you, from earlier, seem like your great feelings are taking over again..
IN-A: (seriously) I have no intention of betting. And.. Yeo-Kyung… the trial just started. If you judge he did it without even hearing the defendant’s side in detail.. you.. are not qualified as a juror. Quit.
YEO-KYUNG: (as if hit hard) !!
IN-A: Even for a criminal who killed someone… in court, they should have a fair chance at their life.
YEO-KYUNG: Right. You’re correct. From now on in this trial… I’ll listen well to see if my prejudice flips or I hear lame excuses. Thanks to you, this trial got more fun? (gets in the car as it arrives)”

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM yes, that’s a horrible thing, isn’t it, to be defended by someone who was using one’s trial as therapy. Everything stacked against Dad Seo.

  64. JIN-WOO: Uncle, today’s the death anniversary, right?
Here’s a bad translation. It should have keep “Ajusshi”.

  65. @GB, then, it’s the work of the actors. Maybe the actress didn’t follow exactly that, but rather put it more on the last line?

  66. trUTH triumph over the facts? She is rather naive.

  67. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM Still I like how In Ah goes out of her way to help and even save Jin Woo from unreasonable neighbours who are angry their property value will be affected by the crime.

  68. I think we see her naive notions change with the time jump and of course the first verdict.

I just watched the scene where she keeps calling him high schooler when she is offering to send him a pizza and he tells her he hass a name. A feeling of a connection between these two .

  69. If he doesn’t have money he shouldn’t commit a crime …. so people who has money can commit crimes and get away with it. PDH is so twisted.

  70. The writer is very demanding of the viewers. No heartwarming communal solidarity in the neighborhoods. No criminals with hearts of gold (excepting Hong-Do’s furry sidekick).

You dont catch a falling knife.

    What a world.

Gritty but beautiful to look at.

  71. @IF, this drama is awesome about the way it always opposes insane amount of resistance. Never anything is free. For example: Gamble scene turns wrong.
Then Dong-Hoo refuses to be the lawyer. (needs to remember flashback of “stop car” in the rain).

  72. Gorgeous purple coat on Dong-Ho but deceptive entrance, given the next episode. No individual hero will be triumphant, overall, right?

In-ah survives, but is a witness to this drama?

  73. At the rooftop scene We see the bad guy getting his adrenalin rush beating up DONHO.

The scene where DH cries in front of his father’s memorial adds depth to his character and an understanding of his avarice.

  74. Clearly there is a bit of a theme of memory and wealth in this drama. The mom’s comments, just before they died, about good memories being true wealth, PDH’s comments about if you aren’t wealthy you should not commit a crime, and then Jin Woo’s comments about no one understands how painful it is to have a memory of the worst moment of his life never disappear from his head.

  75. We really needed the comic relief of her delivering the pizza tothe gambling den.

There are at least 2 prior references to trials being a gamble-from the lawyer colleeaugue of the FL and another that I cannot remember.

  76. I am dozing off, see you all next week.

  77. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@D, yes this Show highlights how the rich can get away with murder and even the man in the street unknowingly colludes with evil when they only go in with their emotions.

  78. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM I did not see the pizza delivery as actual comic relief but it was a nice interlude to show how In Ah took care of the ‘school kid’. I think she is supposed to be 5 years older.

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Bye @FF!

  80. @GB Yes the neighbours at his house and the statement by the FL’s family that everyone in the neighbourhood thinks he is guilty.

I keep having flashbacks to I can hear your voice.

  81. Bye, SD, FF, GB, WE, MM. Until next week.

  82. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Bye @IB! See you on a DK thread.

  83. Whata fun detail in court in the ending scenes where the stuttering lawyer takes his pill, coughs it out and then picks it up to take again. Gross but not as gross as Korean dramas can be.

  84. Yes @GB, the venality is pervasive in this drama. But the nature of memory is also. I am not very far, but we are getting a sense of its malleability, its usefulness, memory as a treasure more valuable than money, how easily memory is lost, and the emotional suffering memory can cause with the good and the bad memories being two sides of the same coin, a treasure and the knife.

    Goodbye for this week, all.

  85. I’ve to go too, bye !!

  86. @GB The part that struck me as funny was when she swallows hard and in a stuttering way announces the arrival of the pizza. She is so nervous and stutterring as a way of expressing that isfamiliar to the audience.

  87. @SD I was particularly struck by the ML’s comments about how painful it is for him to remember his mother and brother’s deaths and how those memories contribute to the strength of his motivativation to do everything he can for his father.

    Bye everyone until next week.
