Hi @pkml3! Thanks for the early thread.
BTW, please open a thread for Dynamite Kiss if you can, before you go on vacation.
Have a great Thanksgiving break!
🥛🍪🥛🍪🥞🧀🥖🌭🍕🥙🌮🌯🍝🍲🍱🍉🍌🍋🟩🍊🍎
Hi all, I will bow out this morning. Still have family here from Thanksgiving. See you next week.
I am here on standby.
Me too
Hi there @FF! I tried to have a nap so that I can keep awake… let’s see how I do!!!
See you next week @SD!
Hi @IB, 1 minute to go!!!
Hi GB, IF, FF, SD
OK, let’s start now!!! As usual a cold open to a desperate Jin Woo.
Hi @WE! We have a thoughtful Park Hong Do (HD) and a stuttering Lawyer in court.
I worked all the day since 3am on chord progressions to guid SUNO AI to create music. Well the AI makes a large part, but without giving it good harmony first, it makes just crap.
@WE it’s intriguing what you do in your spare time and time when you should be asleep!!! Are you getting music for one of your photo scripts?
Our Yoo Seung Ho does a good job of looking like a teenager. So hopeful in HD, it tugs at the heartstrings.
I’m getting set up and will be with you all soon.
@GB, I made a study of all tools needed for making a trailer. But about music, I’m really too much on this when I could generate some awesome tracks, using some models I created ages ago. I’ll post some links when I can. Currently I want to do a long chord progression for a jazz-fusion music, but I have to rework the progression because AI can’t catch it when there are too abrupt modulations. It’s also a problem in the chord transitions I sincerely think. I have to rework! AI could do well first part, and it’s awesome. It’s first time SUNO can play this kind of harmony, else it’s highgly reductive, trained on dumb pop models with 4 chords grids. Unable to create something deeper without human guidance.
Sorry, I talk too much about that, but I’m like a guy driving all the day on a highway at 200mph and coming in a slow driving zone just now. 😀
We have DH in NGM’s flashback already with DH saying something about having a recorded video to make it game over for him. So we should actually guess what DH’s next sly move is going to be.
He speaks of a witness that he needs the location of but is he speaking the truth here? Maybe he is referring to the doctor who can testify that Dad Seo has Alzheimers.
Hi @MM! Family being less clingy today!
Hong-Do does well his job… For now… 🙂
Don’t apologise @WE! What you do is so interesting. We look forward to know what you’ll do next for your passion for drama writing.
@WE, yes, DH using all his crooked tricks would have been able to get Dad Seo an innocent verdict. I feel that the beginning of this series shows us that there is no doubt about this. That’s why it’s all the more gutting that he does not or is forced to stop his winning trajectory. We are all so filled with hope at this stage together with Jin Woo.
@GB, did you listen 80s new wave / coldwave?
If I say “the cure”, “cocteau twins”, “bauhaus” and bands of this kind, it rings a bell?
I ask because I made a song in this style. 😉
This Cop is another annoying character on top of all others. There is a whole bunch of bastards in this drama, it’s heavy on bad guys. Just perfect. 🙂
I find the vagaries of DH’s character very interesting. In an earlier episode when he rescues the father from the murdered girl’s father and puts his card down he says he will do it for half price.
Symbolic item: the bill.
Get out the bill of your pocket each time you need to think with nostalgia about your new goal, your contract, and all the bad things you did in life and regret now. 😀
@ GB no, still clingy but I broke away! I still need to have an ear open for my daughter’s dog.
Did DH take on the case to punish NGM?
Something about the cop’s gun. Now the script uses smartly the potential of Jin-Woo about memory, for a trial trap.
@WE, I am not familiar with cold wave, etc however I took a couple of minutes to listen to snippets of those groups you mentioned. I have an idea of what you mean now. I find it minimalistic and emotive.
I really like his purple suit-just the right amount of flashy!
LOL @MM, okay, may family find other things to do that keep them occupied!!
DH’s character is the one with the most development in this show. This episode was so good for how he could work with JW’s great memory to come up with defense for Dad Seo.
DOng-Ho finds FL too skinny. 🙂
Hopefully, he didn’t see her in her last dramas.
He would talk about skeletons or angular things. 😀
@MM, the purple suit is unique, isn’t it? Suits him very well.
I love his entrance into the courtroom.
@FF, I fancy DH had a bunch of reasons for taking on the case. It had to do with how JW looked so pitiful and reminded him of himself, also the issue of losing a father that DH himself related with. Plus his current father figure had been messed with by NGM, and he figured that it was unfair NGM should get away with murder while an innocent man suffered instead.
In this episode, factual reveals: the complicated reasons why hongdo decides to take the case, the dad’s diagnosis, the story of the coerced confession.
In Ah, ” the truth prevails over the facts” sounds wrong doesnt it, altho her dad meant the facts as presented by the attorneys? Hongdo knows..”the truth” is whatever the judge says it will be.
Careful framing of Hongdo as a gangsters attorney (more views of the great dragon tattoos (to come), contrasted with the illusion that he will save Jin U’s dad, while wearing blinding white.
Heheheheh! @WE… Park Min Young as a skeleton… too skinny!!! I like her here too.
I have a bit of problem about the fact that JW was supposed to have returned the large sum of money he won. He also promises that he’d use his great memory only for DH. So… how come he has such expensive looking clothes after this? He was able to get through school and law school and the bar and dressed like a rich guy… but he had no chance to work yet.
@MM Yes, DH (Park Seung Woong) has that particular pizazz about him to carry off suits with tie and pants in clashing colours. He looked like a dandy, yet impressive, and to be taken seriously.
@GB, I just suppose even poor people have the last smartphone in kdramas. Ahaha.
Park Dong-Ho was good, and so we get a big false hope at this point.
@IB, the colours around DH seem to speak so loudly. His gangster tattoos are well hidden under pristine white. Like an angel to the rescue.
Chilling is such a good adjective for NGM in this drama. The scene where he is on the massage table and learns about the lawyer change.
@WE, @IB the question of whether a lawyer can lie. The truth is indeed created by the arguments in court. The truth and the facts need not be aligned. This was something that we heard also in I Hear Your Voice. Hye Sung said something similar to Soo Ha in that drama.
@WE, what I find a bit disappointing is that this is just 1 of the few times that JW’s great memory is properly used. After this, there’s hardly a time when we see it in action again. It’s such a waste in a 20 episode show about a guy with hyperthymesia.
Poor Dad Seo cannot recall that he has bought a new phone for JW several times already. I think at least 4 times?
This Show has fathers and sons, fathers and daughters… father figures and those who look up to them faithfully. There’s this whole theme of not displeasing the ‘father’. Even NGM is scared of his dad.
DH acts like it is easier to defend a guilty person with his known strategies than to defend an innocent person! Scene in interview room with father son and DH.
We need the funny moment where HongDo’s aide nearly squeezes the boss’ jewels in the boxing ring ropes.
Maybe i feel worse because I know what is coming?
Do you all think there is much forershadowing?
@MM that’s true about DH and how he wins cases – it’s because he usually deals with guilty parties as clients.
Later in time stamp 39:00 minutes you’ll hear how he wants to be a lawyer defending and protecting an innocent man.
NGM is sick, he can tell his friend his crime like it is nothing.
@IB, there is not as much foreshadowing as could be, however we get In Ah giving warning about DH more than once. Instead of foreshadowing, what we get is that DH seems to be the last best hope for young JW, so we are kind of always on tenterhooks about this gangster lawyer … will he be a man of honour or not?
@GB I find it weird in this ep that our two young people are wearing regular warm clothes for the shoulder season, but the people with money are definitely wearing summer suits.
I like the visual of the two men with back tattoos in the sauna! Father and son, Hyungnim and follower.
@FF, I wonder how NGM became like this. If he was not exactly pampered by his father, how did he get this entitled? He might have been born with sociopathic tendencies.
@IB, yes the choice of wardrobe does bother me… it takes me out of the story because I wonder why they are wearing ‘that’ from time to time.
At this point, it seems impossible they loose, they have the absolute video proof, thanks the Dong-Ho girlfriend.
The drama should end next episode. 😀
I find that kdramas always play up how society is so emotional and judgmental, without proper proof… and they get away with it to the detriment of the innocent party.
We get a NGM scene where he keeps touching his face while listening to DH. A sign of his lack of security. He has no self control though. He has destroyed a lot of props.
@GB, I suppose the father still gives him what he wants despite not outwardly pampering him. NGM is an executive in his father’s company, probably received some very best education from prestigious schools, mixed with rich and powerful people. And to double that up, he might have been born with sociopathic tendencies too.
@WE, but instead of ending next episode, we get 16 more episodes!!! This is just the beginning of the story that has a few twists and turns.
@FF, yes… NGM was sent to study abroad, so he had no parental control for a few years. He’s such a nut job with anger management issues and a quick temper.
I fancy that the liquor the actors down so easily is just tea made the right colour to look like whiskey or brandy. LOL.
One more use for JW’s memory … the memory of the red dress is his proof that Jung Ah was in that villa before she died. But that’s tough to use to prove in court. It’s only good to convince himself and In Ah, and for DH’s info.
@WE exactly. With the taped admission, the discovery that Jung Ah was at the villa (the RED dress) this should be the usual triumphant-justice drama.
The viewer should know something will go wrong? Because they can sit back from all this really wonderful visual entertainment and count episodes..
oh, this is before pre-production, so of course we are at home on the couch enfamille and discussion will ensue.
So Secretary Anh has kept the murder weapon! A little possible insurance for the future.
@IF, it’s a good thing that we get this episode ending with Dong-Ho and villain father, because we already get an idea that it could turn wrong.
NGM in slick tan suiting, eyes glittering. A lizard?
@IB, @FF, we get a quick shot of DH crossing a bridge to an appointment. It’s a beautiful scene with autumn colours surrounding him… but he is crossing over perhaps to the dark side?
This drama is the type where if something can go wrong it will go wrong. Anguish.
@IB… lizard-like indeed!
Now not only DH but JW and IA know that NGM is the real killer. Indeed the trial should end next week… but we see who DH is sitting at table with.
The music changes. Ominous.
DH knows we are discussing his suit. He says how he has to go and get a suit fitting!!!
re NGM I think there is also reference to drug use? at the villa party.
@FF we have JW’s desperate and scared face in the beginning and at the end of the episode… bookending it.
And DH’s face, indifferent in the beginning before getting interested and now consorting with the enemy.
The friend/ secretary kept the knife, seems like he also wary of NGM. They were school mates, but NGM treated him so badly.
@GB, yes crossing over to the dark side is so appropriate a description of the scene.
yes MM in the rooftop scene DH makes a clear reference to drug use at the villa party.
I am laughing at the scene where NGM father tell hime to keep a low profile while DH is threatening him through the TV.
Gotta go, everyone. Thanks for the party, WE, MM, GB, FF.
@GB, we managed to stay awake this round.
@FF, the irony of that bridge crossing only just struck me although I rewatched this ep yesterday. The surroundings were so pretty that I remember that bridge… but whom DH met, spoilt that pretty scene.
By @IB.
@MM great editing wasn’t it? NGM could not tell his father that he was getting a warning/threat for murder at the very moment dad that was telling him to behave. Dad was of course too late to stop his bad behaviour. The other bit of irony is that his own sister is one of the jurors in the case that he is the true criminal of, and she’s right there listening to her father and watching that interview with DH on TV. Both father and daughter are non the wiser yet when the finger DH points, is pointing at them.
Bye @IB!
Bye @FF… yes… that nap helped me stay awake!
@MM, where are you at in the show? I’m going to get a snack and will be back in a bit.
@ GB I had to clean up. The dog got into the food garbage-strewn all over the kitchen and even into the living room. A father daughter carpentry exercise is needed to secure the door!
i AM AT 33:13 HALF WAY
@MM all the best to the father-daughter carpentry exercise. I trust dog is safely tied up.
The irony that DH loses the case where the accused is innocent and has won 100% of the cases where the acccused is guilty.
@MM, yes, this show has nothing if not gold medals for the amount of irony it piles on!
Despite the supposed Altzeimer’s the father is able to empathize with the murdered girl’s father.
and he expresses fatherly sentiments about his son’s cellphone.
Maybe reading about early Altzeimer’s wil help me understand his dementia.
Foreshadowing the suicide-he killed my daughter and me.
@MM it appears to foreshadow the suicide indeed, that played into the hands of the bad guys.
I know I am probably here alone(except @GB) but I will continue commenting.
WhWhen DH says he will meet with the doctor too I wonder if this is foreshadowing of the turn around IB is commenting on. I remember the doctor turns his testimony but I do not remember under whose influence?
DH says how he is envious of HW and his father’s relationship.
@MM Yes the doctor did turn his testimony after promising to testify on behalf of Dad Seo. I think it was not DH but NGM’s of Dad Nam’s interference that caused this.
another laugh. The tshirt DH is wearing when he is boxing has a huge tatoo emblazoned on the front.
Hi MM, back from walking the VIP.
The tattoo is on the back, I caught myself wondering if Boss Seo had ordered them en masse for all of his gang members.
Gold medals for irony! May you sleep well GB, trailing clouds of glory for that one!
Contiuing with the dog theme of my day—About the dog barking scene with NGM. My daughter tells me the sounds/words for woof and arff are different in Japanese and I guess in Korean. I would have thought that was universal.
@IF Yes the tatoo is on his back but on the front of the tshirt as well. That is what struck me as funny and maybe ironic?
@IF I hope your VIP was better behaved than ours was today.🐕🦮🐕🦺🐩🐾
Yup, dogs go whah, whah in some places.
She was good — I made her wait for the hour of the party when she clearly would have preferred otherwise. I am trying to move her time to later so we will get the benefit of warming by 10, but she has a ticktock in the belly like captain hook’s croc.
Yes dogs are amazing timekeepers!
I have just learned that I need a hearing aid(old age). I Could not figure why my korean teacher insisted I was saying a certain sound incorrectly. It sounded to me like I was imitating her perfectly. I am hoping a hearing aid will help me better hear the sounds of Korean.
So I am deducing that speakers of different languages actually hear sounds differently and this is why dogs bark differently in different languages!
I know there are some logic plotholes here.☺️
I am remembering there is no letter for the f sound in korea as in woof..
I know this is not at all the point of this scene , it is about how sadistic he is.😁
I thought this point might be of interest to language fans out there!
That scene in the ERMOS club made us all feel violently nauseous I am sure. The first time I watched it I didnt pick up that the woman in white was HD’s original girlfriend because I was so upset.
Spot on for dehumanizing women.
My personal view is that NGM wasnt just spoiled, he was seriously damaged and/or born with something missing.
But I think its a brilliant characterization bec he is still portrayed as human, not just as a monster who can be safely dismissed.
@IB I also did not pick up.That was the girlfriend we saw at the beginning. They’re interactions in the Van afterwards. Were interesting. He continues to have a
dismissive attitude towards her While expressing gratitude at the same time.
