  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @pkml3!! This thread came up as I was dutifully rewatching Ep 8.

A wringer of emotion, this show!!!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL, @pkml3,… I didn’t read that part about me being stressed. Yes, I was coming over to check if this thread was up and saw that it was, so no stress from BOD in this New Year!!! 😂😝

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m here! I know 1 or 2 of us might not be able to join our party today, however I hope to see more of us soon!!!

    We START NOW!!!

  4. Hello, who else is here?

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF! Glad to see you. I’m hoping more of us can come today. I know @MM cannot.

  6. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We are continuing from last episode where JW was framed for the murder of the lady who had testified falsely against his dad.

  7. Hi @GB,episode started with a recap again. In Ah saved JW from exposing his secret hideout.

  8. Yeap it’s the time of the year when everyone has parties going on. I hope more could join us tonight too.

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes,… and I like how he’s been a good judge of character and knows whom to trust.

We see that the bad cop Kwak is back in the picture, doing dastardly things for horrible NGM

  10. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF I’m happier at home quietly watching my dramas, rather than at a party LOL. Park DHis disappointed in his boss-father figure.

  11. Dong Ho is bounded by his father figure to keep helping NGM out of his bad deeds.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Now we get flashbacks to show us how much JW misses his father. They had simple good times together. I like how every little thing between them is a cause for celebration. This show knows how to work our emotions.

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JW is on the run. Oh dear the people on the scaffolding ladder almost got knocked down.

Now we see where it is that JW had lived hidden before when he left home and studied to become a lawyer.

  14. What an easy way to get away, help a old lady push her cart… lol. Yes watching dramas by myself is much more enjoyable but sometimes parties are obligatory, we just have to show up even if for a while.

  15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We suddenly get a NGM brother-sister scene. He seems to be gloating and trying to push his sister’s buttons.

  16. NGM irritating his sister, the joy on his face is so typical of siblings rivalry.

JW on the run but the office lady is still in contact with him.

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF true. We sometimes have to just show our faces for a while at odd events.

Now we see how Manager Yeon got to be so attached to JW and why she’s loyal to him and he trusts her.

  18. Yes we get the back story of why the lady ended working for JW. Poor JW is application for retrial is reject!!!!

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This episode has the words of JW to Manager Yeon… “If I give up on myself, the world gives up on me.” These words are what carry him through all the hard times.

The other thing that crops up more than once this episode is that we cannot beat a person who has nothing left to lose. NGM is going to find that out.

  20. This drama get the viewer’s hopes high then throw the viewers off the cliff. Angst.

  21. This NGM is the killer yet he is gaslighting JW’s father that repenting in prison is not enough to pay for his crime and planting false information into Jw’s father’s memory! Oh despicable!

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes… and here’s the cliff again in the form of NGM visiting Seo Jae Hyuk to gloat and be a total hypocrite. He’s telling the innocent man that Dad Seo is in the wrong when the crime was committed by him.

NGM is surprised that Dad Seo cannot remember his own son. He takes delight in telling Dad Seo the bad news about his ‘lawyer’ being guilty of murder.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Soo Beom is quite funny. He keeps putting his foot into his mouth and is scared most of the time.

  24. I did not finish watching the the full drama and really do not know how things will pan out. I really hope NGM gets his punishment, but I seriously wonder how JW is going to turn things around. I would have given up, how can he persevere?

  25. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JW has his own challenges, and then we see that In Ah has challenges with her mum. Luckily her dad is so nice.

  26. That Soo Beom, why does he continue to work for NGM? He gets beaten up, has to walk on eggshells most of the time, help him clean up his sh*t and crimes. And why NGM can tolerate the not very bright Soo Beom?

  27. That policeman is working for the prosecutor? Huh monitor In Ah’s movements and report to the prosecutor?

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, how he perseveres is what I quoted above… He believes that if he gives up on himself then the world will give up on him. Then he won’t be able to help his father. He also has nothing to lose, so he goes all out to do whatever he can. In the end he perseveres that way.

  29. Yea but it takes alot for him to do it alone, well at least he has the lady manager, the stuttering lawyer, In Ah and maybe NGM’s sister helping and rooting for him.

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yeah Kwak is trying to locate JW by following In Ah around. What a waste of police resources.

Soo Beom is in a funny position. Actually he is helping out his smart friend and getting a salary for it, but then he finds that he’s treated like a dog. Still he has the loyalty of a friend on top of being an employee.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

One of the rare funny moments – Lawyer Song practically choking JW in two hugs.

We see that JW has plans. If only he could carry them out fully.

  32. @GB, I see JW says he has nothing to lose to NGM.

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Such great irony… NGM is looking for JW. JW calls him from the next room but NGM does not even see him while JW can watch NGM’s reflection throughout the phone call. In the end NGM never even knew that JW was right there where he was.

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Now we see NGM panicking over the revelation of the slush funds.

  35. Everyone has a dark secret …. the man who works in the TV station owes Prosecutor Hong a favour because he covers up the son’s crime.

  36. HI, I’m a little late!!

  37. The phrase came up again, the one who have everything does not win, the one who has nothing to lose will win.

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @WE! We’re halfway through the episode.

NGM and his father see that the 3pm announcement of their slush fund is going to be released.

  39. Hi @We! We are at around 37mins.

  40. Omg its DH who tracks JW down and stops his broadcast of the slush fund secret.

  41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, there’s a lot of you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours in these kinds of shows. This might be a ‘code or rule’ of the streets, plus they believe in do unto others, etc.

So the bad guys help each other out and the good guys do the same.

  42. It’s difficult to be here during Christmas holidays, always something to do. People come home very soon, and we go out just after.

  43. DH is handing JW over to NGM! How can he!

  44. Yeah, it’s the episode when, on top of other problems, he’s unfairly accused of murder and now have police on his back. Dammmmmnnn…

  45. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF I think this was PDH’s way to keep JW alive at least. No one enjoys watching NGM taking out his anger on JW.

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JW’s father has a rare bout of remembering everything. Poor man.

  47. Suddenly the drama jumps to Seo Jae Hyuk in prison, remembering many events that he had forgotten.

  48. Dong-Ho prevents him to make revelations on TV. Soooo depressing.

  49. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I find it strange that after JW says those few words on TV, he is no longer on the run.

  50. At least he saves his life at last moment.
Gives a bare pretext to the cop.

  51. The police can shoot his pistol as he likes? I thought all shots must be accounted for?

  52. OH I AM SO SORRY!!!!

I was cooking and l ost track o ftime.

(Have to go read what happened while i was off track…)

  53. It ends on cliffhanger. She’s stunned by the killer.

  54. Hi IB!

  55. Yes, the cliffhanger left me with many questions in my head.

  56. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @IB, glad you can still join us for the last bit.

  57. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This is one episode where everything seems to have gone wrong. Even In Ah gets dragged in and hurt.

  58. Hi @FF just was in tune with yr comments — the cruelty of GYM going to prison to goad a poor sick man —

And the brief return of mempry to Seo Jae Hyuk is so painful…

The writer takes a theme and does it one way and turns it inside out and does it another way.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB I’m glad to see that JW’s great memory comes back into play at the end of this episode. I wished we could get more scenes of him showing off how great his memory is.

  60. @IB, you must be cooking something 😋 yummy

  61. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We get to hear Park DH’s way of thinking. He tells people to remember what they are supposed to be doing because they are people of privilege or detectives, etc. He refuses to cross the line or let others do so.

He was disappointed in his father figure for not staying on the right side of the line.

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like how Park Min Young looks in this show. Also how she looked in Healer, before she lost weight.

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

End scenes … In Ah runs out without so much as a look at her tiresome mother.

  64. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I guess now that JW has gotten away from NGM, he’s no longer a wanted man where the police are concerned? He walks around without disguising himself.

  65. @FF nothing special, just butternut squash and pasta, it has been a confused morning for disparate reasons. I am not sure I realized it was Saturday until just now. Normally a sense of time settles in slowly as one wakes up but…

  66. @GB I noticed that line too. We are being asked to think about where each character justifies their integrity. And PDH is a complex soul.

  67. It is a 16ep show, so we just passed the halfway mark. It seems like a c risis point. PDH had to step in again (as he did when he had JW beaten up) but this time he warned off Detective Kwak. Kwak needs to uphold the pretence of integrity at least, on his side of the line. PDH takes responsibility for living in the grey area.

  68. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, for PDH, he expects people to identify their proper roles through their work or position, and that they should not break the integrity of their roles. He was raised to use the law to defend the guilty, so that’s what he does, but he will never kill or abide killing. He won’t be complicit and he honours his ‘contracts’. He’s got his own version of integrity.

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, now that we have all the new threads for Shine on Me we can start posting there. I’m too sleepy tonight, so I’ll do that tomorrow.

Enjoy this episode of R:WotS and see you on the other threads!

  70. I liked the chase in saerim-dong for the man with the scorpion tattoo. The tropes of a regular crime thriller are actually a relief after all, this sadness. And great cliffhanger!

The fishing line which reels out of the watch! How old-fashioned!

  71. ‘Night @GB! Will start in on Shine on me once I’ve done the dishes!

Bye @FF and @WE! Until next week. And I PROMISE to be on time!

  72. See you next week, bye bye !

  73. I updated the screenplay translation files, up to Ep12 :
