  1. G’Morning all.

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks @pkml3!!

Hi @IB, I’m just back after a full day out. Trying to wrap my head around R:WotS… but more likely I’ll be thinking about ‘My Page’!!!

  3. Hi here.

  4. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    OK it’s time … Let’s start NOW!!!

  5. Hi GB, let’s go!

  6. Hello @GB @WE, let’s go!

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Looks like Seo Jin Woo goes on a rampage to get the people who bowed to NamGM to let his father take the blame before the end of the retrial.

This is now a ruthless and not so likable JW.

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Now that it’s too late, more truth comes to light about the corruption of Snake Moo Suk.

  9. JW starts his revenge action.

  10. I have to say the doctor in the prison deserves it.

  11. Hi FF.
Father dead, exactly at half-drama, what is “midpoint”. Now revenge and justice must be accomplished.

Midpoint is also a screenwriting concept about a big change in the middle (and various other things around, a bit like a receipe but I don’t remember what). Anyway, I’m ok for the midpoint as a strong change, even if I don’t apply the rest of the tips. We can spot this famous midpoint in many kdramas, I’m sure you can remember various ones.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @WE!
I powered ahead at double speed but I still cannot recall this episode.

  13. Hi @GB, @WE, @FF

A tiny smirk at the corner of JinWoo’s mouth as he greets that bad psychiatrist (prison visit). An avenging angel. No mercy.

Finally as viewers we get some satisfaction.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF! Glad you can join us.

  15. Ah midpoint change, nice! I hope the plot does not move a step forward and 2 steps back like the first half.

  16. Hi IF.

Yeah the bad doctor of the prison got problems, as it’s deserved. But it was so fast… No we will return into problems. 🙂

  17. @WE
Absolutely post midpoint. A break from previous psychological state. (in romance, the lovers finally commit and then their real troubles from the outside start. Here, the opposite — near total disaster for the protagonist, but this becomes righteous revenge in the next episode.
    @GB
I didnt remember this ep well either. I think the emotional blow of ep10 left me so dazed when I watched it the second time that I couldnt focus (the first time doesnt count because i fell asleep.)

  18. Hi @IB, NGM not very happy that Soo Bum showed improvements. Tsk tsk tsk petty boss.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, His evidence and suspects board is now the board of villains whom he’ll wreak revenge on.

At Time Stamp 7:30 what are Hong Moo Suk and Park Dong Ho pretending to do?

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes the prison doctor is one of the worst. Park DH is playing his own game and being 2-faced with Nam GM.

  21. @GB, they are making a pact to let DH win in every case that he takes up for Ilho?

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, we seem to be moving forward with a new victim of the Nams and Ilho Group. Whomever Ilho chooses to become the scapegoat will need Jin Woo to fight for them.

  23. @GB, JW will be so busy I bet there will many victims need his representation. JW will have to work fast before his memory fails.

  24. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Writer piles on stuff now… besides JW taking revenge, a new case to defend comes along.

  25. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes, likely that or a pact to let the prosecutor successfully indict the enemies of Ilho. Can’t really tell. Did they say they would not ruin Park’s great unbroken success record. It only got broken where JW’ father concerned.

  26. Guy Man is “rancunier” how we say that in english? Rancor? Even a small thing like to be called a crying weak guy upset him. So he makes pay the bad cop for his bad words. 😀

  27. Watching NGM is so complicated, the villain with a neat clean look, cool as cucumber when sending out threats add a tinge of neurotic streak ….. the perfect evil.

Did NGM win any award for his role in this drama?

  28. Lots of cracks showing in previous evil alliances — that is because NGM crosses the lines (a transgressive personality from a psych view point). But JW looks at his wall board plans and the camera follows his gaze to the top and Sweater Dad’s face. Go, JW, go!

I do not watch vigilante shows bec of a strong affection for the rule of law, so I havent thought abt this. Do vigilante shows provide a useful counterbalance to the romcom kdrama ethic of social solidarity which leads to many minor villains being forgiven…

In the case of Typhoon family there was a major outcry over the solidarity shown to the boss of the opposing firm, in English — the son crossed the lines so he was punished but given an historic social emergency the Dad was forgiven so he could keep his business running…… (oh so off-topic, sorry..)

  29. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, oh dear signs of JW’s progressive disease shows up.

  30. oh! It would have been funny if the son asking Jin-Woo help just ran in front of his car to stop him and convinces him, creating an endless chain of sons coming in front of a car, and the person in the car having a flashback of coming himself in front of a car.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE the English equivalent might be ‘resentful’.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB another father and son become victims of Ilho.

  33. @WE
asked a friend, rancunier is better translated with idioms — to hold a grudge, to not be able to let go of [it].

Vindictive is probably too focussed a word in english — it expects a past insult. NGM is hyper vigilant like a snake and defends by showing his fangs at the slightest threat, but then he cannot stop aggressing. Rancour is tool ancient a word to be useful as an adjecyive — rancourous.

Bending det.Kwak to within a nose-length of the carpet. Seo Beom was worried by that…

  34. Thanks IF and GB. Grudge, ressentful.
He was also PETTY ! 😀

  35. ‘Petty’ is developing as an international coin of currency for a common concept.

  36. More Typhoon Family vibes — father on the roof of his factory being repossessed.

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE true that would have been a bit of a farcical situation with every son begging for help in front of a car carrying a son who previously did the same.

However we get a father who is ‘well’ who tries to kill himself in front of his son and the son of a man who was sick and died in vain. So ironic and frustrating for JW!

  38. They insist so loudly about “friendship” when no one can be friend with Guy Man. Secretary (Lee Se Un) is so delusional since the start. Well probably he understands it, but he still stay to serve Guy Man? Why? Because of old friendship? Or good pay? He’s always mistreated by Guy Man, it’s so pitiful.

  39. The father thinks about commit suicide by jumping from the 2nd stair. LOOOL!!! Ok, he won’t jump in a pool, but at worst, he will just have a broken leg.

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

So we are to look forward to Park DH and JW facing off in court?

  41. I really love this short conversation about the law and corruption between JW and PDH in the hospital corridor.

  42. Everything is made so the situation of the company president (father) and son, just reflect Jin-Woo internal state. And Ooooh… I think we are all experts about that now, after “I hear your voice” and so many dramas… yeah yeah… obvious obvious. 🙂

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE Soo Beom is pitiful but he seems to have made a choice and is regretting it now. The pay must have been good to cover for all the abuse he took. There is also the issue of loyalty to friends.

I love his trajectory later on.

  44. At 51:42, there is a confrontation scene Jin-Woo Vs Guy Man. It’s one of the scene I was remembering even after first watching. Confrontation scenes are often harsh and excellent in kdramas, while… remains POLITE !! Yeah, no direct insult like you find in western series. It makes those kdrama scenes even better.

  45. One more social solidarity comment. The ‘friends’ dinner between NGM, SB and SK where cracks show again in class alliances (they are all classmates from college). NGM crosses lines, maltreats SB in front of SK. SK warns him off,. combining corruption and unusual psychological relationships

  46. Ooops, I maybe confuse this scene with the one when Jin-Woo goes out of the trial room. So, it’s for next episode!!

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

NGM has been boiling over in anger… so Park DH gets the brunt of it after the trial. What he does in front of friends to a friend, he now escalates towards his lawyer in front of his enemies.

  48. @WE brilliant, confrontation in front of statue of justice! NGM is constrained by the public space in the courthouse. Visual confirmation of shows trope — drag them into court — the open light of day.

At the same time as we have been doused in legal corruption. Are we convinced?

It must frustrate him terribly not to be in one of his private snakey dens where he can hiss and bite.

  49. @GB, yup NGM did the same thing in both instances.

  50. Ah. Cliffhanger when Dong-Ho is humiliated by a slap from Guy Man. Bad timing! It’s just in the episode when Dong-Ho learn that his father death is linked to Il-Ho group. SOooOOoooOoooo… Maybe.. maybe.. in a close future.. Will Dong-Ho remove the finger from his ass, and really HELP ?! 😀

  51. ‘sorry, my hand had a mind of its own’ NGM!!

  52. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This court scene is interesting in that it’s 2 lawyers going against each other, and not against a prosecutor.

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB he had to wait to get out of the court to bite poor Park DH.

  54. lol @GB

  55. @GB, “2 sets of lawyers..” I missed the wherefore of that case. Oh, damages against IlHo, a civil suit?

  56. @FF
I caught myself wondering whether NM as NGM was too much of a scene-stealer in this show. I think not.

He edges up to the line of totally overplaying and throwing off the balance of the scene, but then…..such a fine…hand. I want to say ‘italian’ meaning sinister but I am talking about the actor not the character.

  57. @FF
Awards — won the APAN star, actor/excellence in drama, 2016.
Ditto, Asia Artists and Baeksang. A trifecta. You hit it on the spot.

  58. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB yes,… I guess that’s what it is. They need to establish that the Smile Light Bulb company really was at fault.

  59. @WE
(speaking of not being able to let go of things)
About ‘rancorous’ which In English is closest to ‘quarrelsome’.

I dont have usage right in front of me but I believe the word ‘rancorous’ was more literarily useful in a English social context of the past where being socially harmonious/getting along was a required social necessity. Or was it Jane Austen, where it would be a sort of newbie social value?

  60. @GB I remember you do not like long recaps to start an ep. I just set up the mark in ep12 where the recap ends, at 3 minutes in! They replay the whole slap scene!

  61. Okey-doke. I am the only one commenting to myself now! Until next week, @FF, @GB, @WE. And to any lurkers, see you then?

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, it’s not really that I don’t like long recaps, it’s just that some may not be needed, or an edited version might have done. It feels like a bit of unnecessary filler.

Some are good to have. Where do you think the slap scenes falls? Necessary recap?

  63. I’ve to go now. Will come back to read last comments.
    Have a good week!

  64. @IB, I don’t mean go silent after the show but I tend to fall asleep while waiting for comments to come in after the episode ended. Yes I was lying in bed waiting for comments, lol.

  65. @FF, lol on my side of the world too, where I am waking up as you wind down… I was stuck in the house in subzero cold fahrenheit and drinking way too much coffee, so I was impatient. I apologize.
