  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks very much @pkm3! I’m guessing that you’ll be away for a few weeks, hence you have graciously opened 3 threads in advance. Wishing you well and safe wherever you may go!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My dear Party People, it’s time for us to start weighing in with a new show to rewatch once we’ve completed R:WotS.

We’re open to both First Watch as well as Rewatched Shows, and as we’ve been feeling a bit blue with the way R:WotS is written, we may like to choose something a little more upbeat. 🙂

So please feel free to suggest something light and fun that you’ve enjoyed, and we’ll sort of take a vote 🙋‍♂️🙋🙋‍♀️ over the next few weeks. 🤓🥸🤩😎🥳

  3. Since I dont watch many shows pre 2016/2018 without company or prior recommendation, and those I have are either Hong Sisters explorations or fantasy watches, I feel like I should sit out the suggestion moment, but…

I have thought off and on of two shows though, suggestions which are just following your paths so far — the show Faith: the Great Doctor (time travel, rec’d to me) and Pinocchio (same writer as the current watch). Neither of which I have watched but have been nervously thinking about.

But maybe something more recent has now attained classic status for writers everywhere? Something original but with great structure? And maybe not with lawyers?

There are so many new viewers lurking out there who read this blog, so maybe something from the great fusion-pieces of 2020-22?

  4. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hello my dear @IB, not to worry about who’s lurking or recent classics, those who choose to may join us and make recommendations too.

We’re open to suggestions from our faithful gang as well as any who want to party with us. 🙂

And we can start our party NOW!!!

  5. Starting?

  6. Hi IF and GB

  7. Anyone here?

  8. Hi @GB, @WE, @IB.

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF and @WE… are we all on the right thread? @pkml3 opened 3 threads in advance. 🙂

  10. Hi FF.

I was on the wrong thread, thinking “woo?! We are already in episode 17 ?!” 😅

  11. Hi @FF(!) And @WE, @GB.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Park DH has finally broken free of his ‘dad’ and his ‘boss’.

Seo Beom gets out of the police station. Jin Woo gives him something to think about, but it’s something he’s already been thinking about for a loooonnng time.

  13. @WE, lol I looked at the date on the thread 21 Feb else I will be lost too.

Faithful Soo Beom help NGM escape.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, any recommendations for a new show or two for the next Rewatch or First Watch Party?

  15. Jin Woo will convince Seo Bum now or soon. Every people around Guy Man will bettray him.

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Prosecutor TAk… I think he was trustworthy at first but I think he turned.

Prosecutor Nam Sister finds out at last that what In Ah and others have been saying is true. Her brother killed Jung Ah.

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, both Nam father and son should be taken down, or the rot will start again. The only decent person is Nam sister.

  18. NGM admitted that he committed many crimes to his sister. He smiled when he admitted that he killed the college girl.

Yeo Gyeong should not be surprised at all, she should know her brother better.

  19. I had forgotten GYM confesses to his sister. I kept expecting him to take it back!

I like the meet-up in the hall as DongHo leaves Dad’s office and GYM comes back in from the party.

These one-on-one encounters are the best. And some are beautiful.

  20. @GB, would Missing be good for rewatch?

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, Nam GM is made to sound as if he just learnt to be a killer because his father taught him to use people as tools.

JW now hears that Park DH has left Nam and may turn on him as well.

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB the one-on-one between NGM and Seo Beom shows how he totally disrespects his friend. He tells him to continue to be a dog.

SB is thinking of using the evidence he’s hidden against NGM soon.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I have not watched ‘Missing’ but I’m prepared to do a quick glance at it. Is it suspenseful?

  24. Seo Bum looks at the horse-statue… Hum, why?

  25. Mmmh, the knife is in the horse, maybe?

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, SB hid the murder weapon that killed Jung Ah in the horse statue.

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yes the bottle opener weapon is in the horse.

  28. Ah no wonder the horse statue.

  29. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hah! JW threatens Nam sister with the video.

  30. @GB, here’s the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing:_The_Other_Side. I remember feeling quite touch after watching the drama.

  31. Jin woo put presure on the sister. Ok she’s not as bad as the other, but yet, she made an error to let his brother go, instead to be prosecutor.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Nam sister tells her brother that JW set him up. As if he does not hate him enough already.

In Ah is waiting for JW because he might forget his way to the office.

  33. @GB the scene with SEo Beom and GYuMan — SB is given a great long noble-profile shot while GYM twists the knife. Lovely.

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, yes, he did look nobel compared to the one calling him a dog.

It’s in this show more than others that the actor who plays SB gets to look so suave. Usually he’s relegated to grunt working roles and does not get to dress up.

  35. @GB, did we watch Chicago Typewriter previously?

  36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, we did not Party with Chicago Typewriter, however @WE turned down the suggestion of that show before. I kind of liked it actually.

Now we see that In Ah has decided to throw in her lot with JW openly after her father’s advice.

Prosecutor Tak is changing sides…. grrrrr. I’m so frustrated!!!!

  37. It is still upsetting that Pro Tak decides to trade the drug-party video for political support. An instance of what @WE suggests is a series of continual disillusionments.
I remember I still hoped ProTak might have a secret plan to do in Moo Suk. Did he?

  38. Poor JW, painful to remember painful to forget. In Ah is so brave to offer to remember on JW’s behalf when she is hurting too.

  39. I’m ok, if it’s a show I won’t rewatch too. I don’t remember how many time, but it’s maybe 3 full years or more that I’m in the rewatch party, so a drama break is also ok for me.

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB no… Pros Tak did not redeem himself.

It was finally the Judge who was the only hope. I’m so fed up because all that evidence is lost. I wonder if the good guys made a backup copy!!!

  41. Prosecutor Tak going over to the darkside eventually. The power of money and fame.

  42. @FF, yes. And doesnt JW makes a parallel somewhere between being filial and remembering the pain of his father? So he cannot forget bad memories? He should still remember the earliest ones though… the good ones.

  43. Does @WE have any drama in mind for rewatch? Party is no fun without you, your comment tickles.

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, see @FF’s comment. We want you in the party LOL, so it better be a show that you’ll watch and comment on. 😉😂

  45. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB Hong Moo Suk does not look happy that Tak has joined the Nam team.

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Park DH and Suk Joo Il father-and-son relationship is badly frayed. However Joo Il could not kill Park DH.

  47. @FF, I think everybody here will want a drama that is mostly comedy! So, dig in the most comedic kdramas. There should be a lot. Then, I’d need to do a top5 of most funny kdramas I ever watched, but I feel like I already know number 1 and number 2. “From now on, showtime”, and “Psychopath Diary”. I also watch nice other comedies, “undercover high-school”, “Bring It On, Ghost”, “Cheat On Me, if You Can”, “Yumi’s Cells”, “Feel Good to Die”, etc…

But there is ONE short drama of 4 hours I would really be happy to share, it’s: Imaginary Cat.
Just you have to watch this drama, because it’s the top of cutness, with same main actor than RWOTS. Only problem, I’m not sure it’s easy to find the drama on the web.

  48. The meeting of Boss Seok with GYM and MooSuk. The constellations rearrange and positions harden. Toss out BaeChul’s company, DongHo and get rid of whom? Doom, tensions.

  49. How about Lovely Runner? I did not watch the drama, but it was very hot when it was screening.

  50. Boss Seok still chose to stay with the Ilho group people.

  51. Imaginary Cat is 4go, so it’s maybe possible to upload it on a drive and propose it for download, I realize.

  52. Viki has it, I just checked.

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I don’t mind Lovely Runner but I did have complaints because only the romance was nice and the rest of it did not make sense. I recall feeling that the show disrespected the Viewers. The music was nice and concept interesting but not too well executed after the 3rd return to the old timeline.

  54. @IF, it’s 35 minutes x8 episodes. SO one episode per week would be a shorter rewatch party, allowing us to breath a bit. For anyone who don’t use Viki, I could propose upload (let’s say send links on MDL MP).

  55. I did start From Now On Showtime, but other things got in the way of getting very far. I wanted to see Ji Kin Joo again, and the support characters are the best at comedy.

  56. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE “Imaginary Cat” is okay. But we need to standby another Show after that since it’s so short!!! LOL.

  57. Imaginary cat is a drama that will warm you heart like no other you watched before, because one of the main character is a lovely cat! A real cat!! 😽😻

  58. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@IB, @WE, I did watch “From Now On Showtime!”… the ghosts did all the work!!! It’s possible to put it on our list.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I think I only watched a bit of “Imaginary Cat”. Yes, the Cat was the main character and it was fine.

  60. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Nam’s frequent humiliating of his friend is now going to come back to bite him. After all they have a Judge as a mutual friend.

  61. @GB, it is ok to give Lovely Runner a miss. From Now On Showtime, I missed Park Hae Jin.

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

OK @FF, we’ll add “Showtime” to our list.

  63. Anyone interested to watch Alchemy of Souls or Moving?

  64. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I actually find it very unfair that the lawyers are doing all the investigation but the Prosecutors get the evidence and the credit. It happens again and again. Now the lady Prosecutor gets the evidence.

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF I believe we can read comments on “Alchemy of Souls” here on BOD. I recall there were people watching and commenting when it aired.

  66. Hahaha Soo Beom finally give the evidence to the Judge friend. He had enough of the insults by NGM.

  67. Woo! It’s the moment Seo BUM confess to the judge, after a flashback where he remembers how badly Gyun Man threat him.

  68. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes @WE @FF, at last SB has had enough. He was too loyal or his level of pride too low???

  69. For me, I like seeing ‘ancestors’ for current drama themes — so (FNOShT) ghosts ands entertainment makes sense. Being hopefully the replacement for lawyers. The Hong Sisters always have the nose for trends — they just did the very nice play-within-a-play of CTLBT, and will extend Hotel Del Luna with Grand Galaxy Hotel sometime soon.

I loved Imaginary cats and it would make a nice break. This is fun to talk about other shows.

I am feeling brave, so let me say that I have been thinking a lot about cultural appropriation lately, because it is so complex being on the other end of it.

It was one thing when the US was basically represented in Euro-cinema by Texans.

But now that the economic powers have shifted to the other hemisphere the eventual weight of cultural references will shift from US cinema to internal reference in Korean cinema– from one kdrama of the past to one in the present.

Big was a good example of Korean genius at rewriting the book seamlessly. So that is another suggestion.

  70. NGM did not think that he will be indicted.

  71. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @IB, which show is CTLBT?

    The list now has:
    Imaginary Cat
    From Now On Showtime
    Missing: the Other Side
Cheat On Me If You Can
Big (the Gong Yoo one? I watched it so long ago)

  72. @IF, I can help: “cultural appropriation” doesn’t exist, it’s just a cultural-marxist (leftist) imaginary concept, as they often produce to piss-off the world. Share culture has always been the way mankind works since prehistory. So, you really don’t need to give a shit about that and be relax. Eventually, leftists use it discriminate white people for appropriation from another culture, but never the other way (of course). It’s pure BS. As a short example, brazilian music is so good because it’s made from traditional brazilian culture roots (tribal music, traditional instruments) + Fado music (portugese) + Jazz (from north-america). People using “cultural appropriation” concept are just ennemies of intelligence and civilization.

  73. The cliffhanger is Gyu-Man arrested, but to put that better: with a final clash dialog with Jin-Woo!

  74. @GB, note that “Imaginary Cat” is short (8 weeks if we choose 35 minutes per week, or 4 weeks if 2 episodes), but it’s also a way to get more time before to choose a bigger one. Also, we didn’t rewatch many short dramas. I remember that “Page Turner” was really good, and Soundtrack#1 good enough too, as shorts.

  75. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I liked “Page Turner”. “Soundtrack” was so-so but okay.

I can’t find “Imaginary Cat” yet so I may need to get it from you.

  76. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE @FF Actually “Pinocchio” was okay too and worth a watch.

  77. @GB, I prepare that now and give you a link on MDL tomorrow.
As well for other people needing it. Contact me here:

  78. I’ve to go now, wish you a good week everybody.

  79. MMM. Got me there @WE. But what got me thinking was the wooden cigar-store Indian in Pavane. Being a movie that was hard to unpack.

Any US referents to the Indian seemed to be washed out by its presence and by the (AI generated) Comanche horse-riding theme.

It was pretty clear that the only US idiom, ‘being as expressionless as a cigarstore wooden indian’ was completely irrelevant to the movie.

So the thought was, I/we dont own the wooden Indian symbol. Let alone the First Peoples.

In order to figure out what I am looking at properly, I would need to know about contemporary smoke shops in Seoul, the whisky or bourbon craze (Kentucky Hope), the way in which kids in Asia feel about the Indians in US cinema.

Do you see what I mean? The universe of referents from literature and cinematic history in Europe and the US is written over, combined and reused as new traditions arise. That is why I said appropriation, not mis-appropriation.

And the history of all three currents of music you specify and how they meet and combine is still super-good history. Not an excuse for dismissing trying to verbalize its complexity.

Nothing wrong with Marxist historical tools either from my perspective. I like to feel free to use what I want to intellectually. My historical training is in the Greek and Roman classical era. And living in the now or soon to be ex-hegemon is incredibly interesting.

  80. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks and bye @WE!

  81. Back with early lunch in hand —
    Good times @FF, @WE, GB!

    See everyone next week.

  82. Hi @GB, I didnt see yr question — Can This Love Be Translated, the latest Hong Sisiters’ show.
