The Great Seducer: SooJi’s Revenge

I find the outrage of the SooJi’s fangirls vacuous. 😀

I’ll paraphrase one post I read earlier: SH led on both girls. He was the one who wanted to get married and forced Sooji. She repeatedly told him that she didn’t want a fake marriage but he insisted. He led her on. He then “fell in love with Taehee and decided he wasn’t feeling marriage anymore and didnt even tell Sooji about it”

Here are the points to ponder:

First, once SH discovered he had feelings for TH, it is the height of stupidity to continue any marriage plans with SJ. You do not correct a mistake (i.e., the original seduction plot/marriage plot) with ANOTHER mistake (i.e., insisting on marriage). You’ll only compound the problem.

Second, which is more despicable: to hurt SooJi NOW with aborted marriage plans or to hurt her LATER with a loveless marriage? SooJi always wanted a “real” marriage.

Third, SH wasn’t like his father. His father had no qualms marrying and using one woman to advance his business while being in love with another. SH was doing the right thing in quitting the game with SJ.

Fourth, although SH originally proposed the marriage it was SJ who altered the terms to fit her romantic dreams. Let’s be clear about this: SJ only proposed a marriage to sabotage or frustrate their parents’ plans. According to SeJoo, SJ directed his anger only toward his dad.

A marriage between friends was all he was looking for.

SJ however would only agree to marriage if it was real, aka love match.

She dared him to kiss her and to prove that it’d be a real marriage but SH balked. Just like years ago, he couldn’t kiss her.

To anybody with normal brain function, this was a sign that he just wasn’t into her – NOT IN THAT WAY.  His marriage proposal had been for a marriage of convenience.

Immediately after his failure to kiss her, SJ switched gears and changed her condition: I’ll marry you if you seduce TH. SH replied, “Deal!”

To me, SooJi quickly gave him a second chance because she actually DID want to marry SH but she didn’t want to beg him to love her.

As for SH, he teased SJ with this sexual innuendo, “Because what I’ll gain is more amazing.” On the surface, it seemed like he was hinting that he looked forward to a love marriage with SJ. But again, to me, he was ONLY teasing SJ about the pleasure of seduction. (And frankly, I’ve doubts NOW that he could go through with it. Didn’t you see his reaction in Episode 11 to TaeHee’s cheeky consent, when he said that they might have to sleep overnight somewhere if he piggybacked her all the way to Seoul? TaeHee was definitely flirting with him back then but HE was taken aback. Huh?)

SJ however understood his remark to mean that he was anticipating seducing TaeHee so she waspishly reminded him not to fall in love with her.

Sixth, he didn’t tell SJ about TaeHee because he knew that SJ was not only a vengeful person but she had an evil streak, too.

Remember what SJ said about revenge. She said, “The best revenge is taking the most cherished treasure from that person. When people are robbed of their treasures they learn how to take revenge without even realizing it.”

SooJi’s fangirls don’t realize how Machiavellian her outlook is. They keep on touting her “multi-faceted” personality as if shit would look prettier if it came multi-colored.

So let me try to explain here:

According to conventional wisdom, the best revenge is not to be like your enemy. If your dog is killed, don’t hunt their cat. You are exhorted to take the high road, to rise above the fray, and to become the better person.

SooJi’s advice contradicts this wisdom.

According to her, it’s not enough to take the treasured possession of somebody. The best revenge is to DEFORM the character of that person and to turn him into a vengeful person himself. So go on ahead, and hunt their cat. An eye-for-an-eye!

She was advocating taking the low road, to wallow in the mud with the pigs, and to become a worse human being.  That’s the perfect revenge, because the destruction is self-inflicted.  She said, the person becomes vengeful without even realizing it.

Do you understand now why SH is trying to keep TH away from SooJi? He understands, perhaps unconsciously, perhaps not, her wickedness beneath that skin-deep beauty.

Lastly, as for the accusation that he was leading the girls, I challenge that notion.

TaeHee entered this new phase of their relationship with open eyes. It would be insulting to call her decision as nothing but a result of being “led on” as if she was a innocent lamb instead of a capable young woman.

As for SooJi? Well, it was just too bad her “multi-faceted, multi-layered” personality wasn’t clever enough to prompt her to think with her head, instead of with her feelings — like the drama queen that she is. Boohoo, I’m so sad for her.

  1. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I love that I can watch this drama and come to your blog to read great content and wash my eyes from some of the comments I see 😂

Every point you made was on point!

Like you stated he was in it just for marriage between friends to stop his father. Did nobody hear him say “what choice do I have it’s not like I can seduce your mum” to which sooji replied that he was crossing the line. You can tell that he wants to stop his father from being with somebody else not so long after his mother passed away. His father made his mother so unhappy in marriage that SH doesn’t want him so ever be happy or see someone happy with him. Look at the first episode and look at the ending scene of the recent episode.

Sooji knew SH’s intentions. In that episode she said, “I get that you’re trying to get back at your father but don’t involve me in this” but proceeded to WILLINGLY agree to the marriage if he seduced Taehee. Now why would someone who has just said they don’t want to be in a loveless marriage just change their mind for bet which Sooji whole heartily believes he will win? It’s just like you said, it’s because she wants to get married to him. Which is backed up by recent episodes so far, as it’s been revealed that Sooji has liked him since middle school.

Sooji lead herself into this predicament and nobody forced her too.

I don’t know if it’s people’s love for Ka-Young playing her character well that she has people blinded lol or whether it’s people’s desperation for a ‘strong’ female lead that they attribute her assertiveness to being strong when she is in fact one of the weakest characters there. She’s in hysterics every other episode lord have mercy lol.

People continue underestimate taehee’s character but I guess from what little we’ve seen of her they can’t seem to grasp who she is.

Again your one-liners really have me tearing up.
“They keep on touting her “multi-faceted” personality as if shit would look prettier if it came multi-colored.” 😂

  2. Hahaha. Was I too harsh with that one-liner?? Oh dear!!! (Fake concern)

Sooji’s mood swings are too exhausting to watch in this episode. It’s funny how she’s unlike her mother. Her mother is cold and analytical. Nothing seems to bother or unnerve her … well, perhaps the car accident with SH’s mom.

Her husband tried to commit and went to prison, but SHE worked hard to rebuild the hospital. She watched her hysterical daughter bloodied herself, but the following morning, she warned her daughter not to mix drugs with alcohol, as if she was a family doctor instead of a distraught mom.

Whoever said that “an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” hasn’t seen this mother-daughter team.

As a matter-of-fact, I think the common trait among the children in this kdrama, TaeHee, SooJi, ShiHyun and SeeJo, is that they are all trying so hard to distance themselves from their parents. To create a separate identity. From what they had observed and learned from their parents, they were determined to avoid making the same mistakes. They didn’t want to follow their parents’ footsteps. (I was going to write about this but I’m pressed for time right now.)

As you said earlier, it’s troubling that some viewers do NOT comprehend the situation. Are we watching the same drama?

But it’s downright SCARY that these same people vent online with their “feelss” and outrage like a mob of imbeciles. I wish they would chill it.

Too bad we can’t feed them to the zombies. Zombies eat brains. lol.

  3. I really don’t understand how some viewers can acccuse Shi Hyun of “leading the girls on.” Yeah-totally makes no sense to me cause that was definitely not what I was seeing- the opposite in fact. You make a good point that the children are actively trying to not be like their parents.

  4. “Too bad we can’t feed them to the zombies. Zombies eat brains. lol.” oh my!! Love this. Luckily for me I don’t get to see any SooJi fangirls in action but it’s fun to read about it from you.
Anyway.. I was wondering at the end of episode 14 when SooJi saw her mum attacked by the protesters and started desperately asking SH to marry her even if he lost the bet (partly it felt that she was happy to have this excuse to accept the marriage even if the bet was off, but that’s another story).. I was wondering if the show is planning to put SH in a situation like that too.. what could they do to make SH feel like he has to give up TH and accept the marriage because breaking up his father and SooJi’s mum is too important? He’s soon to find out that his dad is cheating with TH’s mum (I haven’t seen episodes 15/16 at this point, just until the end of 14)

  5. Tamara also expressed amazement at the fangirls. 😂Are they really thinking this through?

For example, when SH gave his mom’s necklace to TH, did they really think SH would use something that belongs to his beloved mother in a seduction ploy? Knowing how hurt his mother had been by his father?

Or when SH drank himself to blackout, did the fangirls think that was to “lead on” Taehee? Did he think he could make TH feel guilty and come back to him?

How about when he erased the doodles? Was that also to lead TH on?

😂Many of SJ’s fangirls really take the cake.

  6. I don’t know. Like you, I haven’t watched Eps 15 and 16. Planning to do it in a bit.

I hope the director and writer don’t plan to do anything makjang with SH’s and TH’s characters just to boost ratings.

I thought, too, that SJ was maneuvering to use her mother’s situation to coerce SH to marry her. She was one to capitalize on a situation. Desperation has a sound and it sounds like SJ’s hysterics. 😂

Methinks that since SJ realized that she couldnt use the wager/bet anymore, she hatched up another tactic: SH’s father is a cheater and scammer, thus SH must be penalized with marriage with her as payback for his father’s crimes. Lol.

👍Nice try. I hope SH saw through this and reject her again.

I think TH moved up on his priority list. TH was now ahead of his friends SJ and SJoo. He asked Kyung Joo to keep the news of his dating TH secret from them. But his mom was still tops on his list. Lets see if he’ll give up TH because of her mom’s affair with his dad a long time ago.

  7. Just 25 minutes in Ep 15:

    Spoilers ahead.

    1. Lol. He did prettify the rooftop. BUT we didn’t get that typical magical drama scene where he covered her eyes, walked her up to the rooftop then presented to her his handiword, as if he was pulling a bunny out of his hat 🎩.

    2. The DNA report. The secretary told SJ’s mom about the results. That’s a game changer.

  8. Packmule3 and others,
I marathoned this drama in 2 days time and enjoying reading all your comments. I think even though SJ acts as a drama queen and that SH knows about it, and relates to it, he has moved on and likes that TH is a good influence on him. Like in the pool how she told him that doing mean things would hurt her. By the time of the trip, SJ already knew that SH was out of her slimy fingers and in order to hold on to him by any means possible, she throws those hysterics. Once she realizes that he went upstairs to check on TH, she took a moment, picked up her hot chocolate and dumped it in the sink along with the marshmallows. She was jealous as to him paying attention to TH.

  9. So THAT WAS YOU!!! 😍😘

I wondered who was going through my posts on The Great Seducer. 🤔

Yes, I agree. She knew that she was losing SH. We girls can tell, right? We can read the writing on the wall.

I think she sensed it earlier… when she made that bet. She insisted that he didn’t fall in love with TH.

I’m watching Ep 23 right now and hoping to catch Ep 24 before bed. This was I’m only behind 4 episodes or this week’s shows.

Go ahead and post. I don’t mind spoilers.
