The Great Seducer: Packmule 5 Fangirls 0

I’m not gloating but I want the scoreboard to display that fangirls once again deluded themselves into a heartbreak.

It was obvious to people with half-a-brain, instead of “feels,” that:

1. SeJoo is THE big bastard. I said he was the real Valmont as early as March 30th. That’s the THIRD week of the kdrama. 😂

In the original book, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Valmont turned over all the letters of the Marquise as proof of her villainy.  Once the letters became public, they generated so much opprobrium that the Marquise had to flee the country.  Similarly, Sejoo revealed all the incriminating evidence of their bet to Taehee with the intent to ruin ShiHyun’s chance of happiness with her. I guess now’s the right time for convenient rite of passage for all makjang plots: THE time-leap. SH will travel to good old USA and study here. Ha! Make sure you’ve got your papers in order, SH! We don’t look kindly upon illegals and overstaying tourists. We care if you’re chaebol or not. 😂

lol. I told you, didn’t I? He doesn’t look so charming now, does he?

2. SooJi is the “multi-layered,” rainbow-colored, horseshit. She’s a virtuoso not only in cello but also in perfidy.

3. The Dad is NOT going to be the bad guy but the misunderstood, long-suffering, tortured soul. Makjang writers love to idealize and romanticize old farts like him.

4. SooJi’s mom is a conniving bitc-  wait! I’m THE bitch. She can’t be in the same bitchdom as I am. SooJi’s mom is a conniving leech. I said beware of women with shoes like hers.

5. ShiHyun is not the evil Valmont because he’s kinda stupid. lol. He belatedly realizes that SeJoo is his frenemy.

lol. I’m stopping at five because it isn’t sporting of me to keep on pummeling fangirls when they’re already knocked out.

I fast-forward-ed to Episode 28 because I couldn’t stand the emotional claptrap anymore.

Heads-up: The artist sketchbook and the photo album of ShiHyun will play an important role in rebuilding ShiHyun’s and TaeHee’s relationship. If he dies, then these will become her last memento or his Last Will and Testament. If he lives, then it’s going to be her proof of his love for her or his “Get out of Jail” card.

Now, I can go back and begin watching Episode 25.

Feel free to post your spoilers here.  🙂

  1. It was so funny to see fangirls getting agitated over their precious SeJoo turning bad in episode 28. Hahaha.. Like he wasn’t like that to begin with.

  2. I know right? They’re like Golum from the Lord of the Rings, he’s soooo prrrreeeecccioooussss.

He can’t be bad because he’s precious. 🙄

That was his ace up his sleeve. That film. I mentioned it in passing in my post about that episode. What did he have in his hand? I thought it was a camera flashbulb but I didn’t think it was the camera itself. 😂He was no better than SooJi who secretly recorded the conversation. He was deceitful too. He planned to incriminate his own buddy.

    Pwahahaha. So so Valmont.

That’s why HE’s THE Great Seducer here. We knew it all along and we’ve been saying it all along.

But weird. He was the only one who caught a cherry blossom petal. A petal didn’t land on the other three.

  3. I must confess something….. I was one of the “fooled” girls that thought that SeJoo wasn’t that bad in the main trio, but it turn out to be as @packmule3 said, he’s definitely the real “seducer” in this story. I guess what confused us/me was the fact that he isn’t supposed to be THE main character, just a sidekick one, SiHyun’s “supporter”….well mister Kim Min Jae, GOOD WORK, lot of us fell into that trap. In my defense, I’ll say that I kinda sensed something was “off” with SiHyun’s character, he was pretty charming and SOFT, he seemed to care about people, while SeJoo (despite his family history) and SooJi were much colder from the beggining. And I also think the sketchbook and photo album will play a very important role on the final, wether it’s as a reminder for SH and/or TH of their true love (and that it was REAL LOVE) or as a proof for our wicked duo (SJ/SJ) that their actions towards the couple were in fact too wicked and that they should’ve stopped when they could have.

  4. The great seducer is way less interesting without your commentary! But I am glad we are slowly inching towards an ending and everyone’s true identities are taking less of an ambiguous shape.

Also, was getting ak many notifications about Poem a Day that I decided to watch episode 1 to follow along with your commentary and ending up binging like 7 episodes yesterday 😬 haha ugh I love it and whereas Great Seducer where I am ready for it to end, I am thinks PaD is ending too soon

  5. Nooo I like Se Joo.😂😂😂 Hahaha I think you’re giving him too much discredit PM3! Like the boy literally was agonized over Soo Ji’s push and pull on him for weeks! I think that girl is the worse one among the trio.
Although I haven’t watched the recent episodes of TGS [last I read that post of yours on the fisherman and the hook] and I found that awesome. But it was to my understanding that Soo Ji the stupid and bitchy girl kind of spends too much time on screwing over Tae Hee. And she kept plotting to screw her over while we know so well that her real reason is that she wants Shi Hyun for herself but was too proud to ask him out. In the process she even kisses Se Joo and would keep ridiculing him as if his feelings didn’t matter.
Honestly I felt like Se Joo is the most rational and cool headed one among the trio. Shi Hyun is the worse. Boy needs to fix his mind first and stop breaking up with Tae Hee. :/
Okay sorry for the long rant haha. I need to go back and see what Se Joo has done to comment further lol.

  6. Yes, I’ve been slogging through the last couple of 8 episodes of The Great Seducer. I’m glad we’re almost at the finish line.

But I’m glad you’re loving Poem a Day. See?? What did I tell ya? It’s good. The editing is good; the concept is well-thought out and executed. With TGS, I was sometimes frustrated by the non sequitur logic and convoluted plots of the minor characters but oh well… I understood that Les Liaisons Dangereuses was NOT an easy book to adapt. Thus, I have to give the writing/directing/production team credit for Effort and Perseverance. 🙂 I wouldn’t have thrown in the towel a long time ago.

I think they could have tightened the plot more. Sometimes having too many unnecessary location scenes is a giveaway — for me. It means that the director is spreading himself too thin or over-investing himself in numerous backstories. Like, do we really need to know about HyeJung and her bartender boyfriend and her brother?

Another case was the overnight trip with the gang. They hyped up that pool/seduction scene with TH and SH. But when you look at it again, NOTHING was said or done there that couldn’t have been said or done back in Seoul. Hahahaha. Same with the scene afterward with SJ and TH. Really? Did that conversation have to be at the poolside?

But because the director chose to film that at the poolside, we had this weird part when Joy the actress had wet hair before going into the pool (probably because of the retakes) AND the incongruity of SH being in the pool already WITHOUT TH realizing he was in there with her all along. Like, was she blind? Messy details like that bug me.

The writer and director should have just to five or six KEY traits per character and stuck with those instead of continually adding stupid layers. The “layers” didn’t add anything of value after a while.

  7. Nope. Sorry, Nearsea. 🙂

SeJoo is an asshat. But I’ll give you a bandage for your bleeding heart. hahaha. Because I ~wuv~ you….

I knew you fell in love — well, other posters did, too — after I wrote that explanation of the “Fisherman and SooJi” in soompi.

Looking back, I shouldn’t have written that WITHOUT A CAVEAT that hey, SJoo is NOT all that good. That’s HOW he was able to think of the Fisherman story – because he could READ the characters of the people – which makes him even scarier.

SJ is an UGLY bitch (to differentiate with the rest of good bitches like us here). But SJoo is her ENABLER. SJ manipulates people, but SJoo is the master puppeteer. He already knows that SJ is unhinged so why is he carrying on the dirty work for her? He’s more mentally unstable than she is.

    Put it this way:

There’s TH. Then, there’s SH who’s obsessed with her. Then, there SJ who’s obsessed with SH and thus wants to get rid of TH. Then there’s SJoo who’s obsessed with SJ, so he’s going to do away with SH and TH.

And the problem with SJoo is that he’s been jealous all along. From the start. That’s why he keeps on popping up when the two friends were together. And why he rode the elevator back. THAT was the giveaway for me. The way he said, “Marriage? You??” — it was with scorn, disdain.

All along, he was egging them on to get married, but when the opportunity presented itself, he was actually vehemently opposed it.

He’s the villain, nearsea. He’s Valmont.

  8. 😀
I saw Kim MinJae in Goblin so I know he’s got this “mean” look. It would be a waste not to use that in this melodrama. (BTW, I liked that match up from Gobin: Kim Min Jae and Kim So Hyun.)

I had my suspicions confirmed when Tamara showed us the teaser pic of him and the others. I’ll repost them here.

I think the show’s foreshadowed his death a couple of times (I wrote about it, too but I don’t know where). But let’s wait and see. Just steel yourself for the worst.

  9. Yayy! So happy you’re catching up on TGS because I agree, it’s really boring without your commentary. I also agree about waiting for it to end. It has been very tiresome. What else do I agree about? The list is long. SH being stupid, Se joo being the villain, everyone wanting to move to the US (question. The do understand that US is a country, right? It’s not a panacea to resolve all of one’s issues with life.), and of course about Sooji’s mother. 😁

  10. You had your suspicions and receipts and you were correct packmule3! When I watched the recent episodes I thought yup we were waiting on you to show what you had up your sleeves! The fact that he discreetly recorded Sihyun at the time he planned to end things with Taehee in front of him and sooji… I didn’t see that coming, but you did mention it Iol

I just thought that Sejoo always said he’s the clean up boy/ damage control- those who are able to do that are far more dangerous than the one they’re cleaning up for.

Same Oli, I was cracking up because someone said why has the writer all of sudden changed Sejoo’s character last minute…..what he did is definitely in character.

  11. I am loving reading the posts and the reactions/comments. Thanks for this. Really. Also, kudos t Kim Min Jae portraying SeJoo here. And that’s a character so differente form the last one I remember of him (as the soft, dedicated nurse in Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim (he was awesome there despite being a minor character). He’s definitely an actor to keep an eye in. As well as the rest of the “wicked” trio.

  12. Yes, the writer “changed it up” to make Se Joo the true Valmont character, which I saw clearly for the first time when he used the Chinese maid to get rid of Kyung Joo coming on the trip. He was stone cold there. Glad to see your back to posting about TGS, packmule.

    In regards to Ep 25-28:

Yes! to TH and SH finally finding out the truth of what happened the night of the accident and how MR tried to frame SH Mom. Yes! SH heard the entire recording and now knows SJ Mom instigated his Mother’s leaving the hospital and accident. And apparently didn’t call 911. Also glad that Soo Ji now knows the truth of her mother’s involvement in the events of that fateful night. Loved the look of shock on her face! Not surprised to find out SH really is bio son. It ws always in back of my mind that somehow DNA test was fake/tampered with. However, very surprised that SH Mom would do the fake test when she knows that info would harm SH. Seems very out of character for her since she was so devoted to SH. Although I certainly understand her wanting to hurt the husband for his indifference and neglect when she wanted to try and make a go of the marriage.

  13. Are the subs up yet?
Yes, the mommy lie IS out of character. I didn’t think she was the type to use SH to get back at husband. Was that her nuclear option?

The Dad of TH is philosophical about his divorce. 👍He’s a gentle soul. No wonder TH idolizes him, and hates her mom.
