Fluttering Alert: Heart-Fluttering Moments, Ep 7

I sometimes forget that my long posts have lots of pictures and may take a long while to upload. Sorry. 🙂

Here’s my list of swoon-worthy moments for Episode 7. If you want to add anything, just post.

1. Breakfast date

Personally, I love a breakfast date because it opens up the possibility of having two dates in one day (breakfast + dinner date later). Nothing like the early bird to catch the worm, right? 🦃

Here’s my take on that breakfast scene

I also like inspirational wall poster. “Love never fails.”

2. Sleeping together

I don’t care if this is a trope. I’ll take this innocent version of them sleeping together rather than the carnal one playing in our heads.

3. “I can’t leave my girlfriend in another man’s arms just because of that.”

If you deplore this scene because you think YJ is her own woman and no two guys should fight over her like she’s some kind of doggie bone, then just see this as gender parity. What’s good for the gander is good for the goose. 🙂

If she can’t leave him alone in his office and must monitor him because there are too many competitors around, then he can’t leave her in another man’s arms and must carry her even if it causes ruptured sutures, pulled muscles or hernia.

It’s the same principle. Both of them are wary of other people making a move and poaching their girlfriend/boyfriend from them.

Here in YJ’s home, it’s BFF causing trouble for WH. Meanwhile, at WH’s workplace, the beautiful patients like the insolent actress are stressing out YJ. 😉

4. The car

That car is heart-fluttering, too. 🚘 It’s a scene-stealer. And YEH looked like car model as she strode confidently to open the car door for him.

The car is a real cutie. Porsche Cayenne 2018 >> Her Dongsaeng

I even like the whirring sound it made as the rear hatch opened up. But I’ve to deduct a few points because the door couldn’t be open automatically from the driver’s seat.

I had to wince however when he said that if he could carry her while she was sleeping so could he carry his suitcase. In other words, he was comparing her weight to his luggage and found that she was heavier. 😱

If I were him, I would’ve rephrased that comment. Or complimented her on something else, like “You’re home-cooking made me strong enough to carry this puny thing.” 💪

5. “We’re not a fake couple anymore, right?”

They weren’t a fake couple anymore but they were going to continue going on “fake dates” so they can see each other often.

Looking back, those fake dates certainly helped them establish a rapport. Since they were both easy-going people, they had fun and laughter doing even the most awkward things like snuggling up in the car or canoodling in public. It might not have been love at first sight for them but they hit it off because they were both good people.

Hmmm… do we already know her caller ID for him? As I commented elsewhere, I wouldn’t be surprised if they both designated each other as “the good person.” 😆

6. Goodbye hug

I liked her honesty. She told him, “I don’t think I’ll be able to walk away and leave you alone.” While other kdrama female characters would hem and haw about their feelings, she let him know. This was consistent with her answer during the truth-or-consequence game they played. He had asked her if someone had given her butterflies. She initially was going to drink the champagne instead of answering truthfully. But she changed her mind and said yes. Her confirmation encouraged him to be upfront, too.

I also liked that he promised to run again with her as soon as he healed completely and she promised, in turn, not to eat a lot until he was healed. lol. Basically, he’s now her running partner although he once avowed to hate running. He was doing his part to support her career choice.

I liked that she was naturally handsy with him

while he was huggy with her.

And so far… no wrist-grabs!!!

7. Joking about her driving skills

He was surprised when he offered to drive him home and ran off to get the keys. He asked her if she didn’t want her dongsaeng to drive him instead. Then as she pulled away from the curb, she accelerated the car jerkily. And when she arrived at his building, she jolted the car to a stop. For sure, she wasn’t a smooth driver.

But he just laughed it off. To me this is swoon-worthy because it was his way to boost her confidence on the drive back. She had only ever driven with him and now she was going solo. 🙂

8. Her letter-writing continues!

Here’s their text conversation.

YJ: I made it back safely. Your fridge is probably empty since you haven’t been at home the past few days. How will you eat?
WH: There’s someone who’s starving because shes’ trying to maintain her figure. I’ll be fine just eating simply.

lol…This was the first time I’ve heard of a guy “sympathy dieting” with his girlfriend. 👍

YJ: I’ll bring you something to eat tomorrow.
WH: You’re a top star. Don’t you have too much free time?
YJ: I have a lot less work because of the scandal. (awwww)
WH: Take this chance to rest. Sleep well and take care of your health.
YJ: It was only a few days but since yo’re gone after being here, the house feels so empty.

Again, I liked her candor. She didn’t mind being the first one to open up and tell him that she missed him.

WH: (looking around) I was only gone for a few days, but my house feels unfamiliar. I’m leaving for the hospital now.
YJ: Have a good day! Don’t overwork yourself.

He mused, “Even though I’m alone, I don’t feel alone.

9. He’s nice.

The people in his office wanted to know how a top star lived and he teased them, “She only eats honey dew and she doesn’t even use the bathroom. And she doesn’t sleep either.”

When his stepbrother warned hi not go saying things like that because his wife night get ideas, he just told his stepbrother that whatever his wife did, he thought the world of her anyway.

WH: Even if (stepbrother’s wife) doesn’t do those things (that YJ did as a top star), she knows that she’s a goddess and a fairy to you.

Awww… that was a nice thing to say about his stepbrother’s wife. And I wouldn’t be surprised if that was how he considered YJ, too. A goddess and a fairy even when she wasn’t perfect.

10. Waiting for her to text him

She was doing the same thing, too. It wouldn’t have been heart-fluttering if the waiting had been one-sided.

11. Imagining him at home with her

This is similar to “phantom pain,” literally. She’s imagining herself seeing him like a phantom because it hurts her not have to him around anymore. 👻

12. Her visit to his office

lol. She wanted him to take up pediatrics or urology.

I can understand why she’d prefer pediatrics. He’ll encounter married mothers there.

But urology? Sure, urologists work with more male patients than female. But wouldn’t a female patient get a pelvic exam from him, too? 😂 YH wouldn’t like that prospect either.

Already commented on this scene here:

The most memorable thing he said here was “There’s only one person that I view as a woman. You. Okay?”

It’s a cheesy line but who cares? It made YJ happy.

I also liked that the first thing he asked when he was done for the day was “Where’s YooJung?” I could imagine him being excited because she was right there in his office.

But his excitement didn’t last long. I could sense him his disapproval that YJ and BFF were in the treatment room.

lol. The green-eyed monster reared its ugly head again.

13. The car conversation

Hats off to WH for not raising a stink or punching BFF when he spied him trying to hold YJ’s hand while she was sleeping. (Creepy guy!) I hope he charged him $$ though.

I liked that he spoke with YJ first to clear things up. He discovered that YJ had an aversion for men since she was young because they stalked and obsessed over her, and that the BFF reassured her that she had nothing to fear from him because he liked men.

Also, I liked how YJ made light of her crazy fans by blaming her beauty. He laughed at her pose.

14. Their pillow talk

YJ: Hey, I have something to ask you. How long are we going to keep addressing each other so formally like this?
WH: I’m older than you so I can talk informally. Do you want to speak informally too?

Aargh. He can’t be this obtuse, can he?

YJ: No. It’s not that. I’m just asking because it feels like speaking so formally puts distance between us.
WH: Speak however is comfortable for you. I’m just not good at speaking informally to anyone.
YJ: Then, since you’re older than me, should I call you, “Oppa”?
WH: Well, do what you want.

I must admit that I was a bit underwhelmed by his reaction here. She was flirting with him. Sure, he laughed at her suggestion but…but…but he didn’t flirt back.

Considering that he identified her as his “aein” or lover earlier (thanks, @oli, for this explanation 애인 ), I thought being called “oppa” would be his kryptonite.

Hmmm… Maybe he wanted to be called “yeobo” instead? 🤪

15. Her mediation

a. Convincing the Mom to have dinner with them.

YJ was doing this because WH was having a hard time. She disarmed the mother with her cheerfulness and generosity.

Mom: How did you know to come here?
YJ: I may not be on the same level as a chaebol, but I can gather that much information, Mother.
Mom: I look like a materialistic person who ordered her son to get married to someone because I was only focused on money, don’t I?
YJ: No. If I had a son, I would have preferred a chaebol daughter over an actress whose popularity might drop at any time. I understand.

Awww. She met the mother’s disapproval head on, with alacrity. But it’s sad to think that a person who worked for her own success and wealth is less valuable than a person who was merely born into success and wealth. I’d rather my daughter (if I had one) married a self-made man than a fourth-generation rich guy. To me, the people who are concerned about “marrying-up” are the people who are not A-listers to begin with. If you’re already one of the elites, social ranking doesn’t matter as much as generating more wealth. A self-made man seems to be a better proposition than an aristocratic Alistair William Ratcliffe Penrose Rockefeller IV.

Mom: You heard all about what happened in the hospital, right?
YJ: I don’t know the exact details. WooHyun seems to feel relieved because you aren’t sick. But he’s really suffering and is upset. I came to tell you that.

Mom: Thank you for your concern. But don’t you hate me for telling you to get away and stay away form him?
YJ: Strangely, I’m not upset about it, and I don’t hate you at all because I also understand how you feel.
Mom: Why do you keep being so understanding? You’re making me feel sorry and soft-hearted toward you.

Hmmm…this is noteworthy. To me, YJ was showing the same quality as her father that make her angry with him. She understood the anger directed at her and she accepted it. Her passive acceptance or non-aggression made the mother feel compassion for her. Similarly, her father must have tolerated all her angry outbursts and accusation after the death of her mother. His father’s passive acceptance made her feel sorry for her father and soft-hearted toward him ALTHOUGH she wasn’t ready to forgive him just yet. She resented that her father’s meekness made her feel weak and ready to forgive him.

YJ: (cheekily) I’m pretending to be big-hearted so that you’ll soften your heart toward me. I succeeded.
Mom: Don’t say that! I can’t let my heart become soft because of my WooHyun.

Her kindness, combined with her lethal aegyo, almost persuaded the mother. The mother reminded herself to focus on of WH’s “better” life with the chaebol daughter.

YJ: (pleading for WH again) Mother, WooHyun is really having a hard time so I’m planning on inviting you to a meal with us. What do you think about coming to eat with us, clearing up the misunderstanding, and letting your hearts be at ease?
Mom: Why do you keep doing that? (Being nice and understanding, that is) WooHyun is definitely better at judging people than I am.
YJ: Did you just give me a compliment?
Mom: Yes. (She realized too late.)

b. Convincing the Son.

Her approach was different with WH. She didn’t want him committing the same mistake as hers so she brought him to her mother’s grave.

There she shared her story of estrangement with her father.

YJ: When my mother died, my father wasn’t beside her. I thought that he’d put my heart at ease if he explained or made excuses. But every time I would get angry Dad would just listen and say, “You’re right. It’s all my fault.” He’d say, “I was wrong.” So we became estranged, and now I don’t even keep in contact with him. I’m horrible, right? Don’t end up like that with your mother. The very fact that she’s alive is something to be thankful for.

Then they hugged and consoled each other. I look forward to that day when WH can return the favor and reconcile her with her father.

16. Encouraging forgiveness

The mom was the type to be moved by her thoughtful dinner preparation.

The son, on the other hand, was moved by her personal appeal.

I liked the way YEH delivered her line here. She only had to say, “Solve things with your mom, and don’t get angry with her.” But her extra head movement (i.e., she tilted her head as if to peer into his eyes) showed her character’s earnestness. YJ wanted WH to forgive his mom so she was begging him for his sake.

17. Their public date

I liked the way she would hug his arm whenever they strolled. Of course, she couldn’t hug his whole body while walking, so she contented herself with hugging his arm.

******************

The heart-fluttering moments (HFMs) mostly occurred in the first half of the episode. That was to be expected as the story moved to a crisis point with the mother.

I know that I’ve been spoiled rotten. I’m so used to these HFMs that I’m not really looking forward to future episodes when the HFMs will comprise only a quarter of the romcom because the other contentious subplots will come to forefront.

But I’m satisfied knowing that our couple had a solid start and steady connection. They can weather rough times ahead as long as they stay together.

11 Comments On “Fluttering Alert: Heart-Fluttering Moments, Ep 7”

  1. I love all the moments in general but in particular:
    1. “I can’t leave my girlfriend in another man’s arms just because of that.”

Wao was like a macho-men, Woo Hyun marking his territory; she is your girl.

    2. Her mediation
I really liked that Yoo Jung is the voice of reason, and that despite the mistakes of Woo Hyun’s mother, try to get them to fix themselves-

I love it : “Solve things with your mom, and don’t get angry with her.”

    3. Their public date

    They are so cute.

Thanks and I hope to read the moments of episode 8.

  2. I haven’t watched Ep 8 yet. 😂 I missed the biggest shopping day of the year here yesterday (day after Thanksgiving or “Black Friday) bec I was entertaining family and friends.

I’m now shopping online. I’ll watch Ep 8 in one hour or when I complete ordering at least 1/3rd of the gifts on my shopping list. Fighting!! 💪

  3. Yes to everything on your list, @packmule3. Thank you for IDing the Porsche Cayenne; makes my Pinterest stalking much easier. May I return the points you docked for the hatch door not opening remotely? Check out the door opening (7:40) as they approach to load the suitcase. Smoooooth.

She opened the door for him. (7:49)

WH’s aegyo is equally lethal; my heart shivered when he squeezed her cheeks with a Yoda-like cooing. (21:44)

He never grabs the “oh-shit” handle while she’s driving.

Actor Chun Jung-Myung sells that cute texting face like nobody’s business. WH’s little smile kills me. I am dead.

I want WH’s office. (13:43). I imagine he built those shelves and like how he’s displaying his sketches for other projects.

I love Yoo-Jung’s discretion. She gives Woo-Hyun space after witnessing that terrible confrontation with his mother. And she doesn’t compound WH’s Mother’s shame either. Such a classy woman, our Yoo-Jung.

CEO Han Jae Kyung has entranced many viewers with her elegance and commanding presence. I have mixed feelings about the corporate machinations but was thrilled to see CEO Han get to the bottom of things (46:57). when she demanded more information from the corporate lawyers. I admire her cool expression when she finally faces Kang Hye-Joo for the first time (1:00:45).

  4. @packmule3’s list of fluttery moments acknowledges that OTP time=fluttery moment. I just want to watch them hang out. Woo-Hyun and Yoo-Jung shopping at Costco. WH and YJ making a big family dinner for the parents and siblings. WH and YJ in the atrium. WH and YJ running. WH and YJ sharing pillow talk. WH and YJ giving their baby a bath. (Am I getting a head of myself?) They’re so damn charming, my smile muscles are killing me.

There was a 2017 20-episode Chinese drama that actually played up the the everyday moments of love by adding a series within the series. It’s Not Easy Being King was a satirical, quirky, not terrible, low-rent wuxia gender-bender, body swap, time slip story about a talented chef and young King swapping bodies. Each episode ended with a “Couple Skit” featuring a 2-3 minute story with the OTP as a modern-day couple. They live together but it’s ambiguous whether they’re lovers or roommates, “themselves” or their original characters living in modern times. At any rate, nothing really happens in these skits. They eat fried chicken, bicker, vacuum, cuddle, celebrate birthdays, watch TV … Again, this was not a great series but the banality of those Couple Skits were oddly appealing.

  5. 😂 yes, points back on the car although I meant something else, tsutsuloo. You see, the rear door can be open three ways:

    1. Manually – that’s what WH and YJ did. 😂 This is standard on all cars, of course. No automatic power needed.

    2. With the remote key – that’s what we saw as they approached to load the suitcase, as you said. This is standard too on all cars. The remote key should have a button on it so you can open the trunk when you’re not inside the car.

    3. From the driver’s seat.

There’s also a button on the driver’s door to open the tailgate automatically WHILE you’re still seated inside. 🙂 This does NOT come standard on all crossover cars.

This is why I deducted points on YH’s car. I assumed she didn’t have this feature because they both went down to open the door. Usually (if your car has this driver’s tailgate open button) you press this button before you get out the car so by the time you walk around to the back of your car, the tailgate is already up. (Haha. I know, right? We can’t wait. And we’re too lazy to open the door ourselves. 😂 First world problems… 🌎)

I assume that her car didn’t have this feature because she didn’t use it. 😂

  6. I agree. I love his study!! Hmmm…. maybe I should include it in my heart-fluttering moment?? My heart fluttered when I saw the shelves. There was also this bar (?) across his desk for hanging his current projects. Plus his study is all wood!! 😍
I envy his study more than I do her exercise room. 🤪

  7. You got me at “They eat fried chicken” 😃 I’ve been craving fried chicken (Korean wings to be specific) since lunchtime but I still have turkey leftovers. 🙃

Me too! I can imagine our couple doing mundane things. They really enjoy each other’s company. Even changing lightbulbs would be fun for them. I can imagine them decorating the house for Christmas, going to the Christmas tree farm to pick their own tree, building a snow man, snowball fight!!! 😍

  8. @packmule3—Ah, thanks for the clarification about the hatch door.😉It’s such a dream, I’d be delighted if they popped that hatch every episode.

  9. 😍 I’m not really a car person but the only time I fell in “love” with a crossover it’s the Porsche Cayenne.
It had something to do with its ears…errr… side view mirrors. When you park, they automatically retract.
Nowadays, many models do that so it’s no big deal. But that time, I think they were the first ones.
Which reminds me… I have to order the reindeer antlers and red noses for our vehicles this Christmas. 🤪 See you in a bit.

  10. Btw, be careful with insidious product placements. 😜 The last fridge we bought was an LG bec I insisted on it after watching LG and Samsung fridges featured on a few kdramas. Our kitchen appliances are German and American brands. It’s the first Korean product that we have. 😂 I blame kdramas.

    It works well though.

  11. I love everything about your blog. You should be a writer. haha You should send these articles to MBN so they will know whats the fans are thinking about this romcom drama. Thank you for the positive insights. God bless you dear. Write more. 🙂
