I don’t have time to do a Madcap today. I’ve to leave for office pretty soon.

But let me assure you all that nothing bad happened in this Episode.

In the end, the ex-boyfriend didn’t cause trouble. Wannabe Wife was still stymied and couldn’t cause much trouble.  And WooHyung and YooJung quickly got over their YJ’s daddy problem. I think she finally realized that WooHyung was the reason her father wasn’t able to rescue her mom and WooHyung was some sort of her “consolation” — or her “prize” depending on how you look at this — for her mom’s death.  We’ll just have to wait for the subs.

As for WH’s father, I think we’re finally seeing the reason he’s been adamant about WooHyun rejoining his family. 🙂

Again, let’s just wait for the subs.

But a quick note on yesterday’s Episode 13. We weren’t wrong on our Daddy Assessment.

Here are more things to consider:

1. His conversation with his wife

Cha: So that my position doesn’t go to someone else while SeHyun isn’t there, I have to convince WooHyun to protect SeHyun’s position, no matter what.

He’s lying to his wife/Stepmother.

He wants WooHyung back simply because he’s his son. Remember in Episode 1, he told WH, “As you know, your older brother SeHyun has many flaws. If I hand the group into those hands….” WH interrupted him saying, “What kind of father throws away his son because his son has flaws? The Dad simply smiled and said a matter-of-factly, “A parent punishes when necessary.” When he left, WooHyun noticed the news he had been reading while waiting for WH. It was this:

Wife: Seeing how he’s already saying he’s going to go to prepare legal battle, I don’t think he’s going to conceded at all. How are you going to do that?
Cha: I will have HyeJoo give up. Just tell WooHyun to come into the group.
Wife: Are you really going to give up on Kang HyeJoo? (he nods) Was HJ the one who caused this to happen to SH? Did SH get hit by HJ’s side? (he sighs, letting her think what she wants) So you’re letting her go because of SeHyeon.

Look, I dislike Wannabe’s actions. However, we should only accuse her of things she actually DID. 😂 The news report of WH’s brother’s troubles came BEFORE the marriage arrangements so HJ couldn’t have plotted it. What she lied about and media-played was SeHyun’s relationship with YooJung. But she had nothing to do with SH’s financial mismanagement.

Cha: (he looks at her) What do you think? To SeHyeon and WooHyoon both, will you now accept me as their father?

This IS his endgame. 🙂

He wants his wife to acknowledge WooHyun as his son, too. He wants her to accept WooHyun into the family and stop terrorizing or blocking him. The emphasis here is on “BOTH.” He wants her to welcome both his sons, not just SeHyun, into the family.

Wife: Goodness. (scoffing) I’ll try to convince WooHyun.

Here, she realizes that WooHyun is the “answer” to all their problems, too. SHE, too, wants WooHyun in the company because she knows WH has no desire for it himself. He’s the safest “placeholder” there is for that chairman seat that her husband is going to vacate. You can view the situation like a sageuk. While her son, the “crown prince” is in prison, WooHyun can act as the “regent” to the throne.

Cha: Make sure that you tell him that I stopped HyeJoo from messing with YooJeong Entertainment. WH will understand what you’re saying. (she sighs)
Wife: I want to punish HJ.
Cha: Our business with Chairman Kang tidied up very nicely in image so you can do what you want about HJ.

lol. Wannabe Wife was played! We knew that it’s his son WooHyun that he’s after all along.

Wife: Alright.
Cha: I’ll ask you just one more thing. About the fire back then, did you do it to hurt WooHyun? (she stops) Am I right? (he looks her straight in the eye)
Wife: (avoids his look then tells him straight) It was just an accident.

2. The Stepmother’s confession

We knew already that the fire was an accident. But now we also find out that WooHyun’s Dad loved him and his mother.

I said before that I was curious about that page SeHyun was burning. And sure enough, that was the smoking gun. It was proof of his father’s love and affection for him and his mother whom his father had to deny for their own good and protection.

And 3. YooJung’s future role

All the other methods to get WooHyun “into his arms” have failed. His own mother failed, Wannabe Wife failed, Stepmother failed. Now, Dad is turning to YooJung to accomplish his goal.

That’s the point of meeting with Unnie. He’s come to realize that YooJung has the greatest power of persuasion over WooHyun….because WH loves her.

Considering the theme of reconciliation in this kdrama, I think YJ will be successful in convincing WH to give his father another chance.

But 😂 we might not even need YJ’s encouragement, if the accidental sighting of WH’s Dad at the hospital is anything to go by. Yes, the prospect of death is always a great motivator for family reconciliation.
