Memories of the Alhambra: Reality vs Fantasy

A few things to consider about the real death of Hyun Sik after playing a virtual game or Augmented Reality (AR) with JinWoo:

1. In the game, Hyun Sik was killed by JinWoo. When the two men decided to duel each other in the AR game, they both knew they were playing to kill each other in the game. They were both playing to win and to win means to kill the other person. They were evenly matched.

2. Neither one expected and knew that their aggressive conduct in the game would be life-threatening in actuality. Had they known the real implications of the fantasy duel, neither one would have committed to it, surely not HyunSik because he had a wife and unborn child, and not JinWoo who wouldn’t have wanted to kill ex-wife’s current husband. They both consented to suffer harm and assumed the risk of death ONLY in the game mode.

3. As a result of dying in the virtual/fantasy game, HyunSik also died in real life, but he was NOT killed by JinWoo. Fact: Nobody dies in real life from virtual wounds. As of Episode 6, despite JinWoo’s willingness to assume guilt, the real killer and the real cause of his death are unknown.

4. In real life, JinWoo finally discovered that dueling with a user, like HyunSik, in the AR game was dangerous and could result in death the day following their duel. He didn’t know and couldn’t have known BEFOREHAND of the risk of death while dueling in AR as this was his first fight with a user. Remember, the earlier encounter with HyunSik was deferred until he leveled up.

5. In real life, both HS and JW voluntarily took on the danger (i.e., “assumption of risk”) in participating in the AR game. JW called him out to play and HS walked out of his apartment that night to meet him to play. They both understood and assumed the risk of playing the game although neither could have foreseen the final outcome of the game and/or anticipated the possibility that the game had been tampered with or was malfunctioning.

6. Since HS and JW are both adult who gave consent to play the AR game and both equally endangered their lives in their participation (both had 50/50 chance of survival), JW couldn’t be held liable to recklessly endangering the life of HS. HS would have been endangering his own life, too.

7. In real life, it would be impossible to prove JW guilty of involuntary manslaughter because three elements are missing:

a) that the death was caused by JW’s actions and his actions ALONE. (nope, nobody dies from an imaginary stabbing and the only time they had physical contact, the program disallowed it and they leveled down. The game itself could be blamed. It could have been tampered by someone else or was malfunctioning),

b) that he engaged in an act that was dangerous. (nope, he was playing AR with another consenting adult, and so far, there’s no known accidental death from fantasy combats)

c) that he KNEW his actions while playing the game would have endangered his friend’s life in reality and STILL intentionally engaged in the encounter. (nope, he was totally clueless)

To me, it’s important that viewers pause and think before calling JW a murderer because he isn’t. He may FEEL guilty because of an overactive conscience but no, he’s innocent of killing his former best friend.

  1. Wow! I’m glad that you are also watching this drama. This is the best end year drama for me! Having you in drama that I also watched (Fluttering Warning and this!! Bonus for me 😊)

And it seems that Jin Woo’s already hiring you as his lawyer!! I love your explanation! I do hope that the drama will explain us how HyungSik died.. I dont know where MoA will lead us with their story, but I totally okay with the wait. So far I love the mystery..

The ex first wife reaction intrigued me.. I believe that JW didn’t harm her when they martied, neglected her maybe, when he busy with his company.. but her reaction to JW, looked like she’s been hurt.. wondering what happened to her..

And that Prof Cha, he’s really suspicious.. I won’t be surprised that he turns to be the bad guy!

And that 2nd wife.. ckckckck she is in another level.. she is rude!!

After Fluttering warning which ends this week hoping to get lot of MoA post from you.. thank you..

  2. Hi @h0ns, would you mind posting the link of this post at soompi? I’m lol going to another yup party tonight.

    Thanks! Talk to you later!!

Edit: never mind. It’s too much of a trouble. 🤪somebody Will post it over there sooner or later.🤷‍♀️

  3. Let’s see. I can’t promise to post a lot with MoA. 🙂 I still have to watch Sky Castle. I tried watching it again this past weekend but I couldn’t get past the first episode. I find it confusing to keep tabs on who’s who. Too many characters and names to match.

Also I don’t get why these parents are competing for SNU med school.😂🤔🤦‍♀️ If their kids are so good, why aren’t they studying abroad? 😈

Probably because of the language barrier. English is not their first language. Other Asian countries like Singapore/Malaysia have that advantage because they teach proficiency in English (especially Singapore). The school curriculum is taught in English. Not so in Korea. For countries that teach in English, there is that option to go overseas to UK/US/Australia to study for Uni. South Korea may teach some English but there aren’t that many proficient to study a Uni course in English. So if they can’t study medicine in Korea, I doubt very much they would be able to study overseas. The number jumping onto the Sky Castle bandwagon is increasing by the week. For a JTBC drama with a start time of 11pm on a Friday and Saturday night to do that merely by word of mouth and not much else (no hype at all), it means people are staying up and staying home to watch. I am hoping it will break the 10% ratings this coming weekend. Well deserved. The veteran actors/actresses make it a good watch and even the rookies are gold. Very little fluff. Gritty and real.

  5. yeah, JW is not guilty for killing Hyun Sik. The injuries caused in the game didn’t even seem to hurt in game. He was killed so many times in game or injured but I felt he didn’t feel any pain. I might have to re-check that but the first time it was obvious to me he was feeling pain was when Hyun Sik, the in-game version who keeps going after him, first appears in his room and strikes him with a sword. He felt that and it seemed to surprise him. But at that point the game was no longer just a game. He didn’t even need the lenses to log in.
I’m not exactly sure what’s going on.
And it’s weird that the little brother, the programmer, after he died on the train, his body could only be seen in game not real life.
