Love O2O: Episode 3 Highlights

Let’s continue with the fight from the previous episode, okay?

1. Dealing with her antis

One thing I like about this scene is that these girls are troublemakers who will get their just desserts later on in the story. The contrast between these girls and Weiwei has been established. The trio expect to receive preferential treatment simply because they’re female while Weiwei, although she is feminine herself, doesn’t use her gender to gain advantage in a situation.

And I like that Nai can see through this crap. They girls freak out when he orders them to leave the premises and challenges them to a duel.

2. Calling him “NaiHe”

Weiwei refused to call her Ex by his first name despite six months of virtual marriage. But here she is, only a couple of days married to Nai and she’s already comfortable enough to call him by his name without any promptings from him.

WW: Thank you, NaiHe.
YN: It’s my pleasure. It’s my business anyway.
WW: It’s not for this.

Meaning, she isn’t just thanking him for avenging her. She’s thanking him for making her restoring her happiness.

WW: This afternoon, I was pretty unhappy due to some things but I didn’t want my roommates to worry, so I kept it in. (She’s talking about the picture of her getting out of a luxury car, which was circulated by the Language Guy.) But now, I’m really happy.

YN: Because of me?
WW: Because of you.
YN: That’s good.

And just like that, he learns how nice it must feel to be the source of somebody else’s happiness.

As the story progresses, we’ll see that he often does things to make her happy. One of them is the video which, he openly admits to his friends, is created to make Weiwei happy.

3. How he captured the rude guy

Since I don’t understand gaming myself, I skipped this part. But here’s what he did, if you care to know.

WW: How did you know Blood Devil was on a multi-task mission?

XN: I logged on in the afternoon and saw him asking around in the world chatroom trying to amass a large quantity of Guardian Beast Skill books. That’s how I knew he was doing a multi-task mission.

WW: Why does collecting those books mean a multi-task mission? There are many missions that require collecting Guardian Beast Skill books.

XN: Different non-player characters (NPC) assign different tasks. Collecting Guardian Beast Skill books is task number 236. The NPC for that task is Wu Nan Dai. I went to the NPC to wait and Blood Devil appeared soon after.

That’s where Nai captured him; Blood Devil completed his 299th task and was returning to the NPC Wu Nan Dai to validate the success of his mission when Nai abducted him. That’s why Blood Devil opted to be tied to a post and stabbed slowly rather than do his mission all over again. It’s kinda evil and hilarious at the same time when you think about this.

WW: You even remember the number of the task? And the NPC associated with that task? You have such a good memory!

Yes, that’s impressive. Look at it this way: there are only 30 episodes in this drama and I’m already having a hard time remembering what the highlights are in each episode that I need to jot them down in this blog. lol. Nai’s remembered 236 episodes.

WW: (continuing) You said you saw Blood Devil in the afternoon. Why didn’t you take care of him immediately?

XN: At the time, he had completed 205 tasks. Why not wait for him to finish the 299th task, the very last one?  He would forever remember the feeling of despair as victory so close at hand is snatched away, wouldn’t he?

Boy. He’s a tough teacher.

WW: Yes. You’ve won, Master. Thank you, NaiHe.

4. Her Ex Zhen Shui

He isn’t a bad guy. It’s understandable to want to know the other person first before growing attached to her. He feels guilty divorcing her and he doesn’t do anything to outright shame her. He also vetoes the idea of a recorded video to piss off Weiwei. He tells his new wife The Enchantress, “I don’t think it’s necessary. Why make it known to the whole server?”

She answers, “A rainbow suit would look good but if Zhen Shui doesn’t agree to it, we’ll drop it.” He tacitly implies his distaste in airing their dirty laundry when he praises her for being too kind.

As for the reward that she’s angling for, he says, “The prize can’t be as good as things that can be bought.” He means that he’ll buy her something better than the prize.

Since he thinks that The Enchantress has agreed to stop making the film, he’s probably surprised himself when the video is released and Nai challenges him to a duel. But he needs to put up a united front with his wife.

He’s also generous with the girls and his cousin. I thought it was a point to him that he indulges his silly cousin.

However, the two major differences between him and Nai are one, his money is his dad’s money. Nai is a self-made man while he’s only the son of a rich man; and two, he chases after superficial, pretty things that he realizes too late the true value of a good person.

5.  Noticing her beauty

I talked about this Nai’s encounter with Weiwei in another post but I’ll repeat it again. Nai spots Weiwei in the lobby of the building where he’d just finished a business meeting. He recognizes her as the girl in the computer place. (Remember: he has an excellent retentive memory. He remembered that 239th NPC, lol.)

Friend: What a lucky day. First we met the campus belle. Now, the department belle.
XN: Department belle?

He’s so oblivious to all the goings-on at school, he seems to live in bubble! But this can be a defense mechanism. With all the attraction he gets whenever and wherever he walks in campus, ignorance is bliss.

Friend: That’s right. The one in the ponytail. Her name is Bei Weiwei. Last year, we had a campus beauty contest. She did well for our computer department. It proved once and for all that the computer department has pretty girls, too, although the result wasn’t ideal and she only got second place. No campus belle title. But department belle is good, too.

Friend: What are you smiling at?
Xiao Nai: Bei Weiwei? The name fits her.

He figures out that her avatar Luwei Weiwei is a play on her real name.

Friend: Whoaaa. I should buy a lottery ticket today. First, I’m lucky enough to see two gorgeous girls in one day, then I heard you utter a girl’s name out loud. My life is complete.

He smiles at friend then looks at her again. She drinks from her water from her mug.

Xiao Nai: Department belle is good. Over the top is superfluous.

I like that both Nai and Weiwei want to play down her beauty. Since Weiwei puts premium on inner beauty rather than physical beauty, it’s wonderful that she’s found a man who does just that. Nai appreciated her mad skills in gaming, first and her appearance, second. Had he been focused on beauty like Zhen Shui, then he’d have passed up on on Weiwei.

I also like that Friend #1 is instrumental in bringing Nai closer to Weiwei. Of course, he doesn’t know the big help he gave to Nai in pointing out the Department beauty.  But love is serendipitous this way.

6. The coffee mugs

The coffee mugs foreshadows their shared destiny. They’re both drinking from the same cup.

Weiwei is offered the white mug. But like a thoughtful friend that she is, she chooses to drink from the chipped mug so so ErXi can have the white mug.

Meanwhile, at his meeting upstairs, Nai is offered a matching mug.

Later, he spots her drinking from the matching cup.

This scene connects to that scene in Episode 12 when he gave her the collectors limited edition of coffee mug with her character from the game. lol. Although he looks too cold to be into these “couple” items, he’s into them.

7. Weiwei’s student

I know the child is only a plot device but it’s still cute that he think Nai would be a good match for Weiwei based on the write-up on Nai. Weiwei dismisses the idea because Nai is such a campus legend.

2 Comments On “Love O2O: Episode 3 Highlights”

  1. You’re right that there’s so many highlights in each episode that it’s hard to remember them all. But while I’m rewatching it I realised that those highlights really stand out. I don’t have the same memory as Xiao Nai like to say exactly which episode a particular highlight happened 😂 but it’s more clearer to me now. It’s really amazing his courtship of her right through to making her his wife.

It just makes me more addicted to it. 😍 I’m stuck on episode 17, yup, their first kiss! 😂 How do I move on? 🤦🏻‍♀️

  2. Lol. he remembered the NPCs, when he probably just played the games once. And here I am, even after I watching the episode 5x, I still can’t remember the exact sequence of events that I need to write the “highlights” as a study guide. lol.

Meanwhile, I’m giving @phoenix time to find and recommend a new Cdrama for us to spazz on.
