Why Bitches Over Dramas?

Why Bitches Over Dramas?

When being opinionated makes you a bitch
When being assertive makes you a bitch
When being irreverent makes you a bitch
When being critical makes you a bitch
When being independent makes you a bitch
When being skeptical makes you a bitch
When being controversial makes you a bitch
When being right makes you a bitch

To parody that kdrama “Boys Over Flowers” — and nope! I wouldn’t recommend this kdrama to a daughter if I had one.

Preferential treatment given to smart bitches over trashy dramas.

Bitching over a drama: whining, moaning, kvetching, analyzing, shredding, deconstructing, roasting, toasting, praising, savoring, and reminiscing over red wine and cheese every bit of the drama-du-jour.

All the drama, but none of the bullshit.

Dedicated to all the sassy bitches and/or ex-soompiers.

Updated 12/25/20: Explaining the name

It’s like kissing the frog, 🐸 you know. You have to watch a lot of dramas till you find the one that speaks to you personally. Then you just kiss 💋 it.

The popularity of “Boys Over Flowers” baffled me. Couldn’t understand why viewers were going gaga over the school bullies. Redemption-schmemption. That character Lee MinHo was portraying needed therapy before he could be considered a worthy hero.

However, I liked the meaning of the drama’s Japanese title. It’s “Hana Yori Dango.” Literally, it means dumplings rather than flowers. I read that it’s a proverb meaning to value substance (dango is a kind of sweet dumplings on skewers) over style (hana means flower which is pretty but doesn’t last long and won’t fill you up).

Now, to value substance over style means to focus on what’s essential and real instead of focusing on what’s trivial and false.

I then adapted “Boys Over Flowers” for this blog’s name: Bitches Over Dramas.

My implicit goal has always been to mold viewers into Bitches who can THINK, not just “feel.” I want to be surrounded by people who can distinguish the essential and real from the hype of the drama.
