Poem a Day: On Second Chances

There are three options for MinHo Shippers.

  • Stop cold turkey. And I won’t blame you if you decide to do this.
  • Join the YeLine. 🤣 I’m sure the YeLiners want me on board THEIR ship so I can analyze their beloved Ye like I did with MinHo. Those peasants have this brain & bitch envy. 😈 Sorry, I only do this kind kind of work gratis for my friends.
  • Stick around and learn how this writer thinks.

Let me go over each one.

First, I know Episode 12 was painful to watch because of these things:

  • Ye arriving first
  • Minho, getting hit by the motorcycle
  • MinHo, being told by NamWon that BoYoung cared and giving him FALSE hope
  • Ye acting uncharacteristically lovey-dovey that even his colleagues remarked on his UNNATURAL behavior. He wasn’t being himself.
  • Lack of spark between Ye and BoYoung. Take my word for it. They don’t sizzle when they’re together. On the park bench, she smiles at him like she’s proud of a PATIENT that she’s helping to heal from his “wounds.” And that’s THE problem, right there.
  • The kiss. In most kdramas, the kiss is the endgame because… because heroines are supposed to be virginal and a slut is someone who kisses more than one non-familial man in her lifetime.

Thus, I won’t judge you if you decide to stop watching (Option #1).

Frankly, I’m more pissed off than hurt/sad/broken-hearted/pained.

You see, I was RIGHT when I spotted the inconsistencies:
a. BoYoung moved locations.
b. Ye didn’t know where she was.

Based alone on Ye’s conversation and the plot at the end of Episode 11, MinHo should have been the sure “winner” because he alone knew where BoYoung was, and he was closer to her.

But at the start of Episode 12, this writer introduced a PLOT TWIST by tacking on Ye’s command to BoYoung to move spots.

That’s why MinHo had to RUN a FARTHER DISTANCE to get to BoYoung while Ye had only to DRIVE a SHORTER distance in his car. Did you get that? The race was unfair because the destination point, BoYoung, was moved to give Ye an advantage over the MinHo, who had legs instead of wheels.

Had this been a legal proceeding, I would have protested for nondisclosure and/or tampering with evidence. The writer changed the direction of the script with that cheap GOTCHA! tactic.

That’s why I’ll never accept this romance between Ye and Boyoung as ORGANIC to the story. It’s contrived and forced by the writer. It didn’t come naturally…or even, fairly. You’re all free to jump onto the YeLiners but nope, I won’t follow. Cross out Option #2 for me.

Moreover, anybody with half a brain, (and I guess that precludes many YeLiners gloating right now, lol) could see the deus ex machina or divine intervention in the story. In the case of this kdrama, I would call it the writer ex machina or the WRITER’S INTERVENTION. lol.

To me, there are two reasons for this “intervention.”

One, it happened because the writer had OBVIOUSLY written herself in a corner.

She had made MinHo so sympathetic, much more so than Ahjussi Ye, that the only way to revert attention back to the “main lead” is

a) to suddenly introduce new information about Ye’s and BoYoung’s conversation (i.e., that he instructed her to move locations. Edited: he asked her to meet him at another location. I assumed this new location was closer to him. If he didn’t ask her to move, MinHo would have been closer to her because they all started at the vicinity of the cafe. Remember, BY was at the bus stop near the cafe, MH walked away from the cafe. But Ye was driving a car. Time x speed of car = greater distance between him and BY. He called her to rearrange new meeting place which would naturally be closer to where he was at, but FARTHER to MinHo. That was why MinHo was running like heck across blocks.) and

b) to write an improbable and unexpected event to derail MinHo. The motorcycle accident is just that.

That motorcycle accident again is another unfair tactic. It’s like a guy falling off the Grand Canyon, and landing on this giant archaeopteryx which will fly him down to the ground safely. See the absurdity to the plot?

MinHo had as much chance of getting run over by a motorcycle as Ye getting into a car accident as he drove at top speed (tsk.tsk.tsk. And he’s a doctor, too. Shouldn’t he know better?) in Seoul traffic.

While I would accept God’s intervention in everyday life (that’s why we have miracles), I wouldn’t accept writer’s intervention in kdramas. It’s a sign of writer’s incompetence and lack of foresight.

Therefore, the most obvious reason for this “intervention” is to close the door on MinHo so the Ye story may proceed.

Now, I would have been fine with this rationale because I understand that writers are human and sometimes characters do have a life of their own. However, as I watched Episode 12, there seems to be an odd thing going on that leads me to suspect that there’s another reason for the intervention. A second reason.

But I’ll have to write about this later (sorry… for the cliffhanger) because right now, I’m expected to be somewhere. See you later.

Will probably edit this or write another post for the second reason.

Edited to add this:

The other reason for the intervention is to stall the endgame. 😆If that’s the case, then endgame may not be Ye and Boyoung after all. hahaha.

Will explain later.

  1. “Had this been a legal proceeding, I would have protested for nondisclosure and/or tampering with evidence. The writer changed the direction of the script with that cheap GOTCHA! tactic.” LOL
Anyhow, I’m with option 3. Lets see if there’s a point to all of this. I just hope they don’t make MinHo too pathetic. It’s annoying to see him deluding himself that his chances are high while BoYoung is in her relationship with Dr. Ye

  2. Hey Oli, somebody, a YeLiner, tried to post and impersonate Nearsea yesterday. 😂🤣 Be careful. You might be targeted next because you’re my friend here. Pathetic.

  3. I lost the will to watch APAD considering this and My husband oh jak doo are the only show left that I’m watching right now as the great seducer also ended.
I said before that I’m okay with whoever she ended up with, but that was before the development of the MH character. You really can’t help but notice who is the nicer man among the two. Not based on looks or popularity, but based on their organic chemistry and how he treats BY these past few episodes. The dating part is just so sudden like wham! Not enough indication for Ye’s romantic interest for BY. I really refuse to make sense of it. And I really should have known earlier coz when BY confessed to Dr. Ye, there was a background heartbeat sound twice during the episode. And when BY gave MH that kids poetry book, the bg music sounded like a lullaby so she might not be seeing him as a man anymore.
Still, I’m sticking with MH. Although this actor never gets the girl in any of his projects. He was in a drama special with Chae Soo Bin, If I Were a Season, and he should have ended up with the girl but the end was left hanging.

  4. “a) to suddenly introduce new information about Ye’s and BoYoung’s conversation (i.e., that he instructed her to move locations otherwise MinHo would have been closer to her”

I’m speechless. He has a car but he asked her to move? Still, I don’t feel inclined to watch but I’m option 3 and would like to see how it will all pan out.

  5. That’s the thing. MinHo is better than Ye. And his proposal wasn’t about competition.

Ye’s “love” started off wrong on at least TWO reasons based on the script. Which I’ll explain later…

That’s why I’m not sure if the writer is trying to say that it doesn’t matter if “love” is based on false premiseS because it’ll evolve. I want to see where she/he is going with this.
    😂

  6. That’s what happened in Episode 12. On the phone conversation, he asked her to meet him somewhere.

Which made me pause… huh? You’re the one with car, idiot! Pick me up here!

But wait I have to phrase that different. Let me edit.

  7. Yes that’s what I thought after watching that episode. The race was UNFAIR. Enough said. The writer also made minho look so pathetic. Rather than heartbroken, I think most of us are just pissed off. That’s maybe why we cannot accept the yeline. NOT YET

  8. I hope I didn’t seem like not myself before 🙂 Thanks for the warning though!
I’m just a bit afraid of what the writers can do to MinHo’s character to fit Dr Ye + BoYoung as end game if that’s the path they’re going. I hate characters that are left in the dark, they seem pathetic to me. Like the way MinHo was happy after NamWoo told him BoYoung is concerned about him, thinking she might like him..
It’s telling that the writer had to physically get MinHo out of the way for Dr Ye+BoYoung to be a thing (motorcycle + day off work) otherwise he’s pretty perceptive, I’m sure he would have done something.
What I liked about episode 12 is that DefCon had the same curve with MinHo as I did: finding his “I’m kidding” annoying then seeing a kinder side of him.
1st: “I have a feeling it won’t turn up good. Who’d like a guy like him who jokes around all the time?” – and he surely did seem annoying the first episodes
then (after MinHo buys him food – I was wrong assuming he was acting rich): “He might be a jokester, but he’s a nice kid. He knows how to show kindness. I don’t think he’s that bad”

Are the writers gonna give a backstory to the guy? Why he rejected BoYoung like that? If Dr. Ye & BoYoung are end game they might not care anymore. But somehow we’ve seen 2 couple breakups from the past that were given a deeper explanation than what the surface seemed to say: Dr. Kim & her husband and in ep 12 NamWoo and that girl. They can’t possibly do that to secondary characters without it being relevant to the main leads. No?

Then, I wonder if this thing that DefCon said means something:
“If you do a sloppy job and get rejected, it could be awkward forever.”
Is this gonna make MinHo avoid a confession? Now I’m trying to look for clues that forsee MinHo’s doom. I don’t know anymore..

  9. aaalso it’s cool to be considered a friend. I love it

  10. You got it! You picked up things like I did! Go on. Tell me more. 👍😍

  11. She targeted nearsea bec nearsea and I go a long way. Kinda pathetic. She didn’t know that I own this site and I can check her location. There’s no accounting for idiots…

  12. Watching 12 made me feel a little better because there they are a bit unnatural together and Dr Ye does seem to be trying really hard and it’s almost cringeworthy.. maybe if i were a Ye liner I would think it was sweet and earnest but yah.. whyyy writer whhyy

I am waiting to watch and see where the writer goes with this. They have not been sloppy thus far so I don’t think they leave the last 4 episodes with us questioning who truly deserves BY. maybe I just jinxed it, who knows!

  13. @packmule sometimes when I go to comment the name and email address are already typed in with the last user and email who posted and I have to delete it and write my info in. Maybe if it’s a new commenter she just left it as is to comment and didn’t know to change it

  14. Probably. 🤷‍♀️ But like what you, she could have deleted the previous poster’s info on there. Ignorance, in this case, is not an excuse.
But there are a handful of posters who I’ve blocked as a nuisance posters. Why bother come here if the comments and posts are going to triggering you? 🤦‍♀️

  15. I thought im gonna stop watching but i will always come here. & after reading your post with all these comments i feel like watching again 😁 or just gonna watch some part that i like lol nway team minho fighting !! 💪❤

  16. hahaha. Black heart. 🙂 Wait. I’ve to focus here.
All we have to say is: “Okay, you’ve gave us crap, and we know you’ll probably give us more crap. (Hence my new and “improve” boyfriend-o-meter with the dumb shit, deep shit, tough shit and no shit, Sherlock!) So WHAT’S YOUR POINT, writer??”

hahaha. That’s the bitch in me talking. What’s the writer’s effing point? And she’d better make her case good because I’m going to ban her from my list of writers.

  17. Hey PM3, original nearsea here. Somebody tries to impersonate me? :O OMG WHO? How did you figure out? I would like to know.😂😂😂 Lol what’s the motive and what’s she gaining out of this ROFL. Hahaha. But the emails and names are usually visible here so someone could have done it without checking properly. 😄😄
Anyway I’m more interested in option 1, but I could stay with option 3. I mean we don’t have anything more to lose. :/

  18. Exactly, there’s nothing to lose anymore. As far as the story is concerned, MinHo lost because BY got kissed.

So I want to see where the writer’s planning to go with this, and if her definition of love is really THAT shallow.

Wait how would I know whether you’re the original nearsea or not? pwahahaha. whos our baduk girlfriend?

  19. Omg shooastrid LOL. Are you having selective amnesia too?
    😂😂😂
Haha I think you are mixing me up with someone else. It sometimes gets confusing anyway since I keep forgetting where I last commented lol.
