Poem a Day: Second Chances, pt 2

I’ll give you a clue why I think it’s NOT the end yet and why I said that there was a SECOND reason for the writer’s intervention and MinHo’s motorcycle accident. I said the second reason was to stall the endgame. And the endgame is NOT Ye and BoYoung. 😂😈🤣

If you’re a YeLiner, leave this blog immediately. You’ll get a heart attack.😱

Here’s the clue: the poetry book that MinHo searched and found.

“The Season of Good Rain” is written by a Chinese poet named Du Fu in the 7th century (or Tang Dynasty).

Here’s the poem.

Good Rain: A Night in Spring

The good rain knows its season,
When spring arrives, it brings life.
It follows the wind secretly into the night,
And moistens all things softly, without sound.
On the country road, the clouds are all black,
On a riverboat, a single fire bright.
At dawn one sees this place now red and wet,
The flowers are heavy in the brocade city.

It was made into a movie in 2006, a very romantic movie with the same title, “A Season of Good Rain” and I’m pretty sure if the character BoYoung was in love with that poem for a long time and was searching for it, then she must have known about the movie, too….because it was big hit that year.

The story of the movie “A Season of Good Rain” MIRRORS the story of MinHo and BoYoung.

🙂

hahahaha. Gotcha, too, Writer!🤣

“A Season of Good Rain” is a story about two people who met while they were studying abroad. Because of bad timing, they couldn’t declare their love for each. They reunited on a business trip, and this time, their love blossomed.

There are two intriguing things I read about this movie (I’ll watch it when I’ve time).

First, when the two people were reminiscing about their past student days, both of them had different recollection or interpretation of the past.

Just like what I said about MinHo having “amnesia” about BoYoung’s kindness.

Second, the audience only finds out at the end the real reason the girl blew hot and cold when the guy was courting her in the past.

Just like what I said that there MUST be a real reason that MinHo dumped her, and that he thought she “disgusting” and insincere.

The rain mentioned in this poem and movie is considered “good” UNLIKE the sad and MELANCHOLIC rain that fell when BoYoung left Ye. Back in my post about Episode 10, I said that the rain back then was a cleansing rain, and I haven’t changed my mind.

In MinHo’s case, the good rain knows the right time to fall. He said that himself. Back when the boys teased him about confessing, he didn’t think it was the right moment because BoYoung got rejected. Then, when he was at the hospital after that @#$@ accident, he didn’t think it was the right time either because he was doing it out of anxiety. He was anxious.

But look, so was Ye.

The reason Ye made a U-turn that night was because he was anxious. He was jealous after seeing MinHo and BoYoung together at the beach and seeing them close together looking at the pictures. MinHo only disclosed to the female interns about doing the fireworks at the beach with BoYoung because he wanted to get back at Ye for HURTING Boyoung. He wanted it known that “Hey, you hurt Boyoung but I was there to pick her up and console her, you jerk!”

The other reason Ye liked BoYoung was because she was sincere. Remember what the medical colleague told him? He said Ye should find a suitable woman, someone he can get along well together. There was no love mentioned.

And the third reason Ye liked BoYoung was because he could heal his wounds with her beside him. To me, she was his emotional crutch. With her around, he could rejuvenate.

That’s why his moments with her were so UNNATURAL that the rest of the staff noticed it. His behavior wasn’t true to himself.

There are so many reasons – RATIONAL reasons for him – to pick her but NONE of them – at least to me– is the right one for love.

I want to see where the writer is going with this romcom.

  1. wow. of course you’d look up that poem. I didn’t even think of it
It would be so cool to end up with a good script in the end and I think the only way this can happen is with MinHo not Dr. Ye.

  2. We’re the “smaller” ship so we work harder. 😂

  3. I will go down with this ship.. LOL
Just like u said, no matter how much i try to like dr ye. I feel something odd with his relationship with BY. I feel like they are strangers couple from different planet

Especially when she said “thank u”(she laughed 🤔 ) when he ask her to date with him. I never hear otp on kdramaland says thank u on their first day. 😂

One thing that keep bother me, why she want to hide her relationship with other ppl?
No one care, everyone will congrats her anyway. Why should she hiding..

Just poke me on twitter if our 🚢 sailing, i will continue to watch the drama. I cant handle to watch awkward scene between BY&YE. .

  4. Wow interesting. Good to know the meaning of that book. Yeah lovebangwon its weird why they need to keep it secret like who cares lol

  5. Because SHE ~~~ loves ~~ him. She doesn’t want him to get hurt by the rumors and retreat into his shell.

    And so it begins.

She’ll start doing things to please him. Changing herself to fit his needs. But hey! The YeLiners think nothing’s wrong with that so what do we care.

  6. that thing with BoYoung hiding the relationship because she feared Dr. Ye retreat into his shell (break up maybe) if there are rumors was really bad news for the relationship. Problem is Dr. Ye fixed that at the end of the episode, clearing it out that she doesn’t have to do that.
Now.. the thing that remains is that their relationship is nothing but average.. On her part it was only childish fantasies while he probably just settled, as you’ve said.

  7. I think he settled. And he became competitive. Remember? In Episode 10, when he came home drunk? He wasn’t going to call Boyoung even though he knew she was suffering. But he saw MinHo take a screenshot of the two of them at the beach, and that made him rethink the whole situation. He didn’t want to lose the “only” girl who was “sincere” with him.
Then, the following morning when MinHo said that they were out lighting fireworks at the beach and he saw MinHo and BoYoung being friendly over the photos, he became “anxious” that he was going to lose HER to somebody like MinHo.
