Merry Christmas!!

Traditionally, we begin the Christmas season at the stroke of midnight. My family attend midnight mass together and by the time the rite ends an hour and a half later, it’s properly December 25. It’s the first day of Christmas or Christmastide.

Today is December 26, the second day of Christmas. Do you remember that song, on the “First day of Christmas my true love sent to me, a partridge in the pear tree…”? The song was talking about this season. There are twelve days in the Christmas Season. But the Catholics have extended the days to include the Sunday after the Epiphany.

And one of my greatest complaints with the “commercialization” of Christmas is that we’re misled to think that the season starts BEFORE December 25. If I were to believe the news, the Christmas season begins the Friday after Thanksgiving. But I know that Christmas parties that I attended were actually “Advent” parties.

As early as December 1, I’m bombarded by daily emails from my favorite stores to begin a countdown of shopping day till December 25. We’re told to shop because Christmas ends on the day itself. People panic to buy decorations and gifts, and associate that shopping frenzy as the “spirit of holiday.” Sigh… The meaning of Christmas is slowly but steadily being subverted.

So, I’m taking back the season. I’m saying “Merry Christmas!” even after the December 25 is done and celebrating the season for the next 12 days. It’s my rebellious comeback or bitch-back to retail CEOs. It’s packmule3’s Christmas season.

Merry Christmas!!!  The Savior is born! Hallelujah!

+100 points to the poster who can identify the scene and episode this screenshot was taken!! (It should be easy for “Fluttering Alert” afficionados here.)

And here’s my gift to you all: Continued blogging on Fluttering Alert and other kdramas!

I don’t know if this blog wins the “booby prize” of the year but it’s been definitely fun bitching over dramas for almost a year now.

I’m still looking for a new drama to obsess about. I’m watching Memories of the Alhambra. It’s a neat fantasy/action movie but I want a light-hearted romcom to balance it. Like many of you, my job is mentally exhausting and romcoms are my way to decompress.

Is Top Star Yoo Baek still being shown? I couldn’t get the subs anywhere.

Will be back later. Going skating now with my nieces and sisters-in-law since we couldn’t join the guys when they went to the rink at dawn for a game of hockey.

  1. Merry Christmas, everyone! If we’re extending the season to follow the traditional or orthodox calendars, does that mean it’s not too late to send out cards? 😛

That screen shot? Ep. 5, when Woo-Hyun and Yoo-Jung ran home from the clinic. Just thinking of that scene makes me grin. Aigoo, those lovable dorks.

    *high five*

  2. +100 points!!!

Why am I not surprised that YOU answered right away?

    I rewatched that scene, too.

I loved it when he teased her that it was going to be his first and LAST jog and he suddenly sped up, leaving her behind. I could imagine him saying, “Eat my dust!” to rile her up. 😀

I put two Christmas cards in our mailbox this morning. I received cards on the 24th from people that weren’t on my original list so I sent cards in reply, too. 🙂

  3. Merry Christmas!!

  4. Growing Beautifully

Packmule3 I’m glad you brought up the correct and traditional Christmas season. Yes, there was an official reminder from the Liturgical council that we should not be ‘celebrating Christmas’ during Advent. The latter was in fact a sober time of preparation and the celebrations begin from 25th Dec onwards into January. (The Sunday after Epiphany should be the Baptism of Our Lord?)

So yes, it’s still not too late to send out Christmas cards and still wish Christmas greetings!

    A Blessed Christmas to All!

  5. Merry Christmas to you too!

  6. Hugs, Oli!! I’ve to watch Ep 8 of Memories of the Alhambra!

  7. I was looking for my comment here the other night but it didn’t post it.
