Hotel del Luna: Ep 12 On Schrodinger’s Firefly pt 2

As a follow up to the Schrodinger’s Firefly post, I think we also should be open to the possibility that Chansung is the Captain reincarnated.

For a few of reasons.

1. No touch. It’s dawned on me that Manwol never actually touched the Captain. Unlike the Blind Woman who fixated on the Baker’s touch, and remembered the good and not the bad memory, Manwol has no remembrance of the feel of Captain’s touch, because she never felt his heartbeat or held his hand. She was fixating on her anger but Chansung’s pure-hearted (unlike the Captain who’s conflicted at best, traitorous at worst) so she couldn’t sense the Captain in him.

2. The scar. Chansung received a scar from Jinwoo. Chekhov’s gun.

BTW, Chekhov’s gun is not the same as a smoking gun, okay? Chekhov’s gun is a foreshadowing while “smoking gun” refers to a circumstantial evidence (as opposed to direct evidence) which incriminates a defendant.

3. Mirror image. If someone juxtaposes the Captain’s and Chansung’s actions, she’ll find  that they’re mirror images. Just like Mira/Princess and Det. Park/Yeonwoo. Chansung has replayed the Captain’s actions but with better results. It’s as if he’s learned from his past mistakes.

4. A play on words. Chansung is supposed to bring THAT GUY along with him. If they’re one and the same guy, then Chansung is literally and spiritually bringing that guy along with him.

5. (Edited to add) Yeonwoo’s blinking. Goodness! I almost forgot about that. He must have recognized him as somebody with whom he had a severed past relationship.

🙂

Just something for y’all to think about.

  1. These are very good notes to consider. In #1 however, I think ManWol has a remembrance of the Captain’s touch. I remember from the flashback, there was one scene where he held her hand and taught her how to write her name. Parallel to it, there’s also a scene where CS also held MW’s hand when he insisted that she should sign the paper.

  2. Oh yes! The handwriting one. 😂 But what I meant was the touch made in desperation. Just like the Blind Woman asking for help. That’s what MW was talking about while eating spaghetti at Sanchez restaurant.

She did look at CS oddly when he was helping her sign on the form. But she was fixated on hatred as a “touchstone” for the Captain that she missed it. She refused to think of CS as the Captain reincarnated.

  3. I’m open to the reincarnation as CS. I’d have preferred that not to be the case but I mostly prefer the story end with a bang not a whimper and for me that means we see the Captain again in human form, whether his own, CS’s form or someone else’s altogether. Not as a firefly and human shaped shadow only.

I have no real stakes as to who is who in this story. I’m just trying to follow the evidence, but the evidence is still murky.

  4. Now I’m also wondering if MW really succeeded in killing the Captain in the past. Perhaps she didn’t? If she did, then why is she so eager for his reappearance to the extent that she’s even willing to lose her chance of going to the afterlife then just vanish as a vengeful spirit? Double kill?? 😅😂

“I will certainly kill you!” was the last thing MW said when the captain visited her in prison.

However, MW killing him was just implied through the swishing of the sword. Nothing more. To me, it seemed like she really has an unfinished business/mission. It’s not the same case with the princess. It was clear how she killed her. And when she met her again as Mi Ra, it’s just a hatred rekindled. It’s not like she really waited for her to appear again. But her reincarnation made MW her even surer that she’s getting closer to meeting the captain again and certainly kill him (this time).

What might have happened wasn’t revealed yet in the flashbacks. Either the captain was killed by MW or by someone else or maybe he committed suicide. Or who knows, maybe he didn’t really die and was also just stuck and existing somewhere like MW?

  5. Out of context. Please check Love alarm drama on netflix 🙁
I need you to tell me STOP, if i ship the wrong side.
Its all because webtoon ending not on my side😭

  6. Oh no! You’re out of topic!! You’re banned from this site!!! 😈😂

Sure thing, @lovebangwon. Will check it out when I get home. You’re always dragging me, kicking and screaming to watch these shows.

But tell me what you mean by shipping the wrong side? What do you mean “wrong”? Is it an abusive relationship? Incestuous? Adulterous? Dysfunctional? Second lead syndrome?

Remember, we’re currently watching a romance between a 1020-year-old mass murderer and a 30-year-old choir boy. If this wasn’t fantasy show, I’d say that I’m watching something sick, too. 😂

  7. I still keep coming and haunt you! On your email and twitter, probably gonna hack your blog*just kidding 😂

Pleaseee sister just watch at least 2 episode 😭
It was because the webtoon ending isnt favor on my side..
when i watch the current couple, their relationship was too strong to break up and swipe to another new one as end game couple 😭

Probably the one i like its not your style, especially the first ep 😂 but still they are good in maintaining relationship despite of many jealous ppl arround them.

  8. 😂😂😂 I forgot she is mass murders, bcs she is now more likely materialistic woman, who is crazy for money fashion and food.

  9. You’re too funny, @lovebangwon. Look, if the writer already said that X is happening, then no matter what I say, Y isn’t simply going to happen.

What do you need me for then? But okay, okay. I get it. Attorneys don’t only take on the winnable cases; they take on cases for damage control, too.

I’ll look into the first 2 episodes. The writer might have a change of heart and twist the show differently from her webtoon.

  10. I know we keep forgetting. Behind those fashionable clothes, foodie quirks, capricious mood swings, she’s a murderer 10? 12? times over. She’s killed more than the Captain did.

What makes her different from other mass murderers is that she’s serving out her sentence for the past millennium. She wasn’t given a death penalty, she was a life sentence with no parole. She isn’t appealing her conviction. But after 1000 years, she wants her punishment to be changed to death penalty because she can’t imagine living in that hell-hole of a prison much longer. MaGo1 wants her rehabbed first. MaGo4 is fine with death penalty.

  11. I wish for that, for love alarm drama writer change their mind 😭

Love alarm has Similar main couple vibe (in term chemistry) like Put your head on my shoulder cdrama. another puppy love.. but, you know korean writer love husband hunting things. By casting 2 handsome lead. Damn it.

Sometimes we know they tend to broke viewers heart for the sake of original series 💔
Just playing safe on earlier eps, and then..💔

I saw another teaser new kdrama also has same vibe with “husband hunting” too. it was kim min jae new drama.. (the guy who act as young king in goblin drama)

But still the first god will always has stronger power than the mago 4.

I wonder how much manwol get heart broken by not knowing the truth behind her punishment, living with holding grudges and hatred for long time..

  12. @pkm3, I don’t watch as closely so I’m not sure who she has actually “murdered”. In war situations, Murder isn’t the word (though we could argue it should be). The fact the princess takes 1300 years to reincarnate as a human again tells me that her killing at least was more likely recognized as an execution, justifiable homicide of some kind. Then there are the incidental killings of the people that get in Man Wol’s way when she’s trying to save her people. Then we get her people, who she doesn’t kill but does take responsibility for their dying.

Technically, she might not be responsible for any murders in the strict sense of the word, while being very culpable for many many deaths.

She feels guilty for the deaths of Yeon Woo and her brother bandits, who died by trickery, not at all guilty for the princess, captain and the princess’s men, who she directly killed.

    Is this what she’s missing?

  13. @PM3 Love Alarm is on Netflix…only 8 episodes? You’ll be able to power through it easily lol. I haven’t watched. One high school type romance is enough for me right now. Moments of 18 is a gem. I really like it.
