When the Weather is Nice: On Jang Woo

I’m answering @GB’s post here.

Thanks for this @pkml3.

The thought that ES was angry over HW’s trek in the mountain did not strike me until you mentioned it. Now the question is if he was angrier over the fact that she almost discovered his hidey hole, or because he just did not want any intruders, or because HW getting hurt bothered him.

I tend towards his not wanting her to intrude into his space (yes the title for me is ‘My Old House in My Dream’ too). My guess is that he leaves the light on for that 1 man in the photo, and will not take kindly to anyone else walking into the house.

I believe in this paragraph you meant Jang Woo was not trusted …

I understand why EunSub’s mother would be angry with him, and why Haewon would cut in and asked him why the girl wanted to meet with EunSub alone. Not only was she jealous, but she probably distrusted Jang Woo (instead of EunSub) and suspected a scheme here somewhere. Both women’s protective instincts were turned on for Eunsub.

That’s interesting, because I did not notice that HW distrusted JW at all. Were you thinking that HW felt that JW, being one of the ‘kids’ of marriageable age, whom parents wanted to marry off, was trying to drag ES into the dating game so that he (JW) would not suffer alone?

Haewon saw EunSub’s mother get on Jang Woo’s case for involving EunSub in the mountain rescue. Haewon herself was already upset with his sister Hwi who said that nobody worried about Im Eunsub. She questioned Hwi, “Why? Why don’t you? Why do they ask EunSub (for his help) as if it’s perfectly normal? Why? Is it not dangerous for him? Does he not get hurt? Is he not human? Why does everyone make this kind of request to him as if it’s nothing? Why?”

Hwi thought she was overreacting like her mom, “Whoa! Unni. You’re saying the exact same thing as our madam Yun.” She pointed at her mom who was thumping Jangwoo and berating him, “Why would you call Eun Seob, huh? You know what his personality is like! … If anything happens, I won’t leave you alone. Really.”

Seeing ES’ mother scorch Jangwoo for the same objections she’d just raised a few seconds ago, would have cemented in her mind that ES was a pushover, a good-natured person easily taken advantage of by others. More importantly, seeing ES’ mother angrily swat at Jangwoo should have changed her perception of Jangwoo because he was one of those people who’d take advantage of  ES’ kindness — or ES’ naivety, if we’re going to relate this whole scene to the “Wolf’s Silvery Eyebrow.”

For if ES was a pushover, then there necessarily must be someone who exploited him and sponged off on his kindness. In this specific instance, it was Jangwoo. The mom was blaming Jangwoo for dragging Eunsub into this trouble, and Haewoo heard the mom’s accusation.

To me, it made sense for Haewon then to eye Jangwoo suspiciously after that night. She saw how ES’ mother was the only one (aside from her) who spoke up against endangering EunSub. She and ES’ mother were only two people who were visibly upset at other people’s cavalier attitude towards EunSub. Other people weren’t at all concerned about ES’ safety.

So true, she would be jealous to hear Jangwoo say to ES, “Oh, Eun Seob. Min Jeong wants to see you separately.”

But, after that incident with the mom, there must also be a certain distrust — and a sense of protecting this pushover, gullible, softie ES from “other people” like Jangwoo. She should be wondering whether or not Jangwoo was up to something and inconveniencing ES again.

The emphasis here was not on the fact that Jangwoo asked ES to meet up with Min Jeong but that Min Jeong had to see ES SEPARATELY? Why? What did she have to say to him privately? Was Jangwoo setting the two of them up?

I do agree, though, that JW is pretty sharp and noticed at once HW’s discomfiture over Girl wanting to meet ES. His inability to say anything that might upset the Girl, by telling her truthfully that EX had not said he’d meet her, might have more to do with JW’s liking her himself, than with any other nefarious reason.

I agree. Right now,  nothing indicates that Jangwoo is acting with a nefarious reason. However, that doesn’t mean Jangwoo is all altruistic. On the contrary, he can be self-serving. And very sneaky at it, too.

It happened in Episode 1. Did you notice what he did at that mini-homecoming dinner? I told you earlier that that moment was shady. Let me break it down.

First, the phone call.

ES received a phone call. He said, “Hello? Oh, hi. (he didn’t sound enthusiastic.)  Right now?”

Next, ES and HW were on the bus.

She had changed clothes but he was wearing the same blue sweater under his winter jacket. This led me to believe that she’d gone home to quickly change clothes for the homecoming dinner, and then they went off to the reunion that same night. They took the bus because there was drinking that night. Good job, director! No drinking and driving!

ES: Are you really okay? That is…just…
HW: I’ve never gone to a reunion. I didn’t even know about them.
ES: They’ve been having them every year for ten years. I haven’t gone to all of them either. Maybe I dragged you along for nothing.
HW: No. Well, I think it will be alright.

Now, my question here is this: Why was Eunsub invited to the homecoming at the last minute? I’m assuming that Jangwoo was the organizer. If they were good buddies, then he could have told Eunsub that there was a homecoming long before that night. They had bookclub meetings regularly. It wouldn’t have taken JW two minutes to remind ES of their next homecoming.

Next, the reunion.

The center of attraction was Jangwoo. The gang was teasing Jangwoo about a crush, and he was denying it loudly.

JW: Hey, hey, hey. Never mind. Never mind. That story is completely wrong.
Classmate 1: You were going crazy saying you liked Ji Eun Sil. Don’t you remember you bought her a hundred roses?
JW: Hey! I didn’t I didn’t. When did I say that? That’s enough.
Classmate 2: You liked her.
Classmate 1: Right.
Classmate 3: He thought he was starring in a drama.
JW: Is that how you guys harass someone? There’s something I haven’t told you yet. Actually, she’s the one who liked me.
Classmate 4: You liar. Don’t make us laugh. You know I was Eun Sil’s best friend. That’s not so. Eun Sil said Jang Woo was chasing her so hard that she had a headache.
JW: Are you all going to be like this? Does anyone have Eun Sil’s phone number? We need to check out the truth.
Classmate 5: Is that how you’re gonna get her phone number?
JW: That’s not true. That’s not true.
Classmate 1: Stop already, Jang Woo.

The topic of conversation then changed to HW. They all wanted to know about her teaching cello in Seoul. At this point, if Jang Woo had TRULY been embarrassed because his high school crush was placed under scrutiny, then he should have felt relieved when his classmates found another person to fuss about. He could have dropped the subject matter.

But then Classmate 6 arrived, and HW switched seats to be near Classmate 6. Classmate 6 saw ES sitting on the corner and greeted him.

Classmate 6: Eunsub came too! How is your bookstore?
ES: So-so.

Notice how JW jumped in and shifted the conversation over back to him. My spidey sense was tingling here. He restarted the teasing about crushes. Why did he?

JW: Hey, Min JiYeon, you tell them. They said I liked Ji Eun Sil. It’s not true, right?
Classmate 6: Why? You did like her.
Classmate 1: (laughing) See?
JW: I’m not going down by myself. Get ready to get the facts straight.

Jangwoo meant that he was going to expose somebody else, too. But before he could continue, a classmate noticed a tattoo on HW’s wrist. Suddenly again the focus of the table shifted to HW. Everybody’s eyes were on her tattoo.

Now,  JW really had no reason to return to the topic about his dating Ji Eun Sil again. Everybody had lost interest on this subject matter and moved on. But look at Jangwoo’s eyes. He was looking at Eunsub’s corner.

After giving EunSub a side-eye, Jangwoo interrupted the gang’s conversation to steer it once more about high school crushes.

JW: Oh, right! Then besides me here, is there anyone who liked one of us here?
Classmate 2: We should call Eun Sil.
Classmate 6: Right? I should call her for you to be quiet. Alright.
JW: No. I’m saying it because I know something. (then he points at Eunsub)

Everybody at the table looks surprised. “What?” “Why is it?”

Seriously, what kind of friend pulls a trick like this?

JW: (continuing) Hey, Eunseob! You liked someone here or not? Which is it?
ES: What do you mean, is there—
Classmates: Okay! Who? Stop it! You’re going to make him feel harassed.
JW: Why would I do that?
Classmate 1: Hey! Eunseob always came and left quietly on his own every year. What if he doesn’t return next year because of you?
JW: I can’t go down alone. Hey, Eun Sub! Are you giving up? Will you drink as a punishment? Who among us did you like?
ES: There wasn’t anyone.
JW: See? He can’t say it. That means he does have someone. He has someone. (he leads the gang to pound on the table). I’ll say it. I’ll reveal it myself. (all pounds the table.) Look, look. He can’t say. (pounding table)
ES: It was Mok Hae Won.

JW’s reaction.

Then, JW looked at HW and stuttered, “H-Haewon is pretty.”

What the hell was he playing at? His action was rude and disloyal. He goaded his friend ES and when ES was forced to answer, he acted surprised. Didn’t he say that he knew that ES had a crush on somebody present there? So, why was he all flustered?

This happened in Episode 1.

Now, I forgave him back then because he invited Haewon to the book club meeting.

They accidentally met each other on the street while she was inside a phonebox calling her Aunt. He invited her for some coffee, but they ended up drinking coffee at — of all places! — the City Hall vending machine.

Weirdo. lol. Who on earth would ask a girl to drink coffee from a vending machine?

And this was when he mentioned Haewon’s best friend.

JW: By the way, you know Kim Bo Yeong, don’t you?
HW: Huh?
JW: Kim Bo Yeong. You were close at school, no?
HW: We used to be.
JW: She was asking about you. She was going to come that day, but couldn’t. When I told her you came, she felt sorry she couldn’t be there.
HW: Yeah.
JW: We should get together some time. Haecheon High School kids still all live here. Almost no one went away to places like Seoul to study like you did.

I didn’t make much of this scene because I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was oblivious to the rumors swirling around HW in high school. EunSub certainly seemed to know about it, and the rest of school knew about it. But maybe, just maybe, JW was too busy studying to know about the rumors.

But let’s go over their drinking session in the next episode, okay? Jangwoo walked in ES’ bookstore just when HW was about to head home. He brought beer with him and together the three of them drank and passed time.

Jangwoo started talking about his parents.

JW: I feel like I’m going to get indigestion whenever I talk about this. They’re so worked up. Because of their wish to have a grandchild soon, they’re bugging me to marry, when I’ve so much dating left to do. Who gets married at 30 these days? Now to mention, I’m still in my 20s. I’m 27 years old now.
HW: Ji Yeon told me that in this neighborhood, they encourage you to marry as soon as possible.
JW: It’s true. That’s the problem. Exactly who is spreading around this notion?  (speaking to Eunsub) Is it your mom? Is it?
ES: My mom wants me to get married as late as possible, actually.
JW: You’re right. Im Eun Seob’s mother really loves him and always says, “My son, my son.”

Now. I’m not sure what JW was trying to get at here. Was he implying that ES was a mommy’s boy? Then, JW noticed that ES was still on his first can of beer. He was already on his fourth can of beer. He then forced ES to drink his beer.

JW: Good job. Hey, Mok Hae Won! Who bothered you the most during our school days? For me it was him.

JW: (continuing) How shall I put it? Whatever happened, he was so unenthusiastic. Guys like that bug me the most, and that’s exactly how he was. I was struggling a bit, back then, trying to please my parents. The grades and awards I had then — it might have seemed like I obtained them without effort. But I actually used to stay up at night to study. And I made such efforts to look good to the other kids.

When you think about this, he still did this kind of thing. Jangwoo still continued to act as if he did things effortlessly — joking around, always smiling — and he did it to look good to other people.

That’s why I said he appeared shady. In his own words, he pretended to be an easy-going when back then, he really worked hard to live up to his parents’ expectation. But had he already stopped doing this act? To me, he was still pretending to be an easy and chill sort of fellow to impress the other people. He could be envious (even just a little bit) because EunSub had this comfy book club going on.

Sure, Jangwoo worked at the City Hall but he had to ingratiate himself to other people.

Meanwhile, Eunsub worked in a pokey little bookstore in the middle of nowhere, but he had a good thing going for him. He was surrounded by warm people.

Anyway, to continue.

Haewon complimented JW for working hard and graduating one of the top 3. lol. I wonder who were the other two contenders? It would be funny if ES was one of the other ones.

HW: Because you studied hard, you became one of the top 3 in the end.
JW: Yes, I studied so hard and go into the top 3. (ES laughed) Laughing? (he asked ES)
ES: Top 3…
JW: (roughhousing with ES) You dare to laugh? Really? Huh? Did you do wrong or not?
ES: I did wrong.
JW: You did wrong, right?

He turned started talking about Kim Bo Yeong again.

JW: Oh yeah, I mentioned Kim Bo Yeong not too long ago. She said she had something to tell you. It’s about this misunderstanding between you two, and she said she had to resolve it.

Tense moment. Nobody spoke. Then, HW let all her resentment out. She said she hated the word “misunderstanding.” Her rant took JW off-guard and he started mumbling again.

JW: Oh wow, that’s absurd. (I think, he meant that she was too harsh. He addressed ES) She’s tough. Tough.
HW: I don’t know what I apparently misunderstood. I never misunderstood anything. KBY did wrong, and she never apologized in any way. That’s all I know.

Awkward, silent moment again. Then, a car honked outside.

JW: (getting up) Well, at this opportune awkward moment (the subber meant, “right on cue!”) the taxi arrived. Let’s give joyful thanks to the taxi driver for this amazing timing. (ES held on his wrist) Haewon, you’re really scary when you get mad. I’ll get going.

Grabbing his things, he stuttered one last thing.

JW: KBY wanted your phone number and I gave her the Walnut House landline. Y-y-you might get a call. I’m leaving. Bye, Eunsub. Bye.
HW: Yah!

He left and banged door behind him.

See there?

For me, Jangwoo might NOT have malice in his mind, but he certainly had the knack of lobbing a virtual grenade into a conversation, detonating it, then leaving others to clean up the mess.

That’s why I’d keep an eye on him if I were Haewon.

33 Comments On “When the Weather is Nice: On Jang Woo”

  1. I feel the same. He’s not trustworthy as a friend. He doesn’t know when to keep his trap shut. He can’t be trusted with secrets. He stirs the pot constantly. He thrives on attention. But deep down he is insecure. He doesn’t have the levity of ES. And he loathes that ES seems to “cruise” through life whilst he has to live up to all the normal external pressures placed on him by his parents and society. He secretly envies ES (his laidback life). He lacks the courage and conviction to just live the life he wants to live so he projects his dissatisfaction onto people around him who seem to be living according to their ideals. That’s how I see him anyway.

  2. ‘Didn’t he say that he knew that ES had a crush on somebody present there? So, why was he all flustered?’ My impression was that either he thought it was someone else or was bluffing. In either case, he seemed flabbergasted. I thought that his reaction was legit.

Do you think he has some repressed anger or jealousy regarding ES, who didn’t have to work as hard? I still don’t absolutely know who the top 3 were except for JW, possibly ES and someone else. It was very important to JW that he is top student, judging by this scene and the scene with Hwi who wants the ‘top student’s’ advice.

There are a few other mysteries that I can’t figure out but that might be for another topic.

  3. He is a little pot-stirrer, isn’t he?

Definitely for that homecoming dinner, he put ES in a spot. Needlessly. He didn’t have to egg everybody on to pry into ES’ affairs because ES was quietly sitting in the corner. He was content being a spectator.

Even the bookclub session. It was ES’ bookstore but JW acted like he was the moderator of the bookclub session. ES didn’t mind that either. He was attending to the drinks.

And I agree with what you said that he lacked courage and conviction to live his life as he pleased. If he didn’t like it, then he should move! He was only 27. Why did he return anyway after graduating from Seoul National U?

Lol. ES was content with his simple life and no one could pressure him to do anything he didn’t want. He wanted to join the mountain rescue efforts, so he did. After that, not even his angry mom could make him promise not to do it again. He was his own man.

  4. Not anger. If he had anger, then he’d be doing these with malice intended. I don’t think he was being malicious or evil.

More like pettiness, envy, or simply not thinking about the consequences. He didn’t know when he should stop. ✋

And about that homecoming, the point there was he deliberately wanted ES embarrassed. And why?

ES said this wasn’t the first reunion he attended. Classmate #1 said ES attended and left previous reunions quietly. Meaning, he didn’t call attention to himself and JW didn’t put him in the spotlight. Soooooo, why now? Why now when HW showed up? 😈

Also, he said he wasn’t going down by himself. Meaning, he wasn’t going to be the only one embarrassed; he’d take somebody down with him. And he chose ES because ES was an easy mark.

But his surprised reaction was definitely legit because he didn’t expect ES to come out and declare HW’s name. He probably expected ES to remain silent and sit through their teasing. He thought ES would sit passively.

And yes, JW mentioned his being in the top 3 constantly. 🙄 To me, that’s a sign of being loser. Like who cared really? Even Hwi is making fun of it.

It’s like somebody who brags about his SAT scores 10 years after the test. People should have more and better things to accomplish after SAT scores and their class ranks. They shouldn’t be perpetually stuck in their high school memories. Especially when they’re only 27 years old.

  5. ‘Why did he return anyway after graduating from Seoul National U?’ Maybe to return to being a big fish in a small pond?

Perhaps ES and JW have a symbiotic relationship and each has complemented the other in the past. They are sort of two sides of a coin in some ways.

If JW actively disliked ES, he mightn’t have involved him in a rescue where ES was bound to get a lot of credit from his community and beyond. Except that he truly trusted that ES could find Min Jeong. Complicated.

  6. I can only think that JW picked on ES at the small reunion because he’s bothered by ES’s composure. The difference between this meeting and others is HW. She was present for the first time and JW was showing off in front of the city girl.

Perhaps this was why he was semi-bragging about himself at the bookstore as well. However when I first saw that scene, I thought he was actually complimenting ES as being someone who did well despite not trying hard; maybe trying to promote ES to HW in the indirect way some men do. Maybe a bit of both.

  7. ES was the best man out there for mountain rescue and JW cared about Min Jeong. That’s why JW called on him. Desperation.

And ES didn’t need the credit since he was their go-to guy. In fact his mom would rather that he received NO credit. 😂

At best, ES and JW’s relationship is what I’d call complicated. It’s not what it seems to be. Remember when ES was in high school, and he was biking home when he saw HW with her bike on the ground? He stopped his bike and he appeared to want to approach her when JW suddenly appeared and called out to him. ES chose to bike away then and JW chased him.

Based on the scenes we have so far, ES hadn’t been the one looking for JW’s company. It was the other way around. JW searched for ES’ company.

Hence, JW complained that ES bugged him in high school because ES was “so unenthusiastic.” To me, he couldn’t take the hint. ES wasn’t into him as he was into ES. 😂 The world didn’t revolve around him.

  8. Now do you see why nrllee and I have our doubts about JW? Why would he pick on ES at the reunion. Why would ES’ composure bug him as you said? Why couldn’t he leave him alone? Why would he want to show off in front of HW if he knew that his friend was into that HW? Why would he embarrass ES? Why would he keep harping on high school crushes? Why would he pound that table like that, influencing everybody else to copy him? Why was he a jerk?

    What’s his motivation?

That incident escaped everybody’s notice because the baby went missing and everybody was distracted.

And no, he wasn’t promoting ES to HW when they were drinking in bookstore. 🙂 He was dissing ES. It was all subtly done. First, he was telling HW that his parents were eager for him to marry. Context? He was ready for marriage. Next, he mentioned ES’ mom calling him “our son”. Context? ES was a momma’s boy. He was still tied to his Mom’s apron strings.

Then, he fussed about ES not drinking beer. Context? He isn’t manly enough. Couldn’t manage one beer while he was already on his fourth. Then, he says ES was unenthusiastic in high school. Context? ES was a boring person, not a fun company. Last, he was #1 because he worked hard. Context? What about ES? What did he finish? Where did he go to school?

See that? And to think they say that women are bitches. He was sabotaging his friend. 😂😒☠️

  9. I see what you mean. Which episode was the bike scene in? I don’t recall seeing it.

  10. Hahaha, he may have been trying to sabotage his friend but I think it backfired. Because he fell asleep HW was able to study ES up close ☺️, to empathise with his low tolerance, to hear his endearing mumbles and to become more curious about him.

What is behind all this? So do you think JW wants to hit on HW? Could that be a reason, conscious or not, for him to set ES up with MinJeong?

  11. It’s possible JW likes HW. But heeeeeyyyy, it’s also possible that he likes ES himself. 🤪😂

  12. I don’t recall. Brain freeze. 😕 When I remember later, I’ll tell you.

  13. Yeah it’s about one up man ship. The dreaded male ego. JW feels threatened by ES. ES doesn’t care, he’s just happy in his own little space and hiding in the background. Problem is, he is by default everyone’s go to man when a crisis hits. For someone who doesn’t have great self esteem (ie JW) his presence alone is enough to make them feel threatened. He counters this by talking him down and throwing shade at him because he knows he’s the least likely to retaliate. JW is jealous/envious of ES. I am not sure JW likes HW and is trying to cause trouble by introducing MJ to ES. I think that’s just him trying to be everyone’s “best friend”. Wants everyone to think highly of him so he does/says things to make sure he’s elevated in the eyes of others. That’s my first impression of him anyway.

  14. But JW does look harmless though. If I hadn’t been paying attention to his eyes during the reunion, and if I had fallen for his joke-y ways with the young girls, he was a fun sort of guy.

I always liked this actor anyway. I liked his intensity. I liked how convincing he portrayed his role in Extra-Ordinary You.

  15. @packmule3 I don’t see any malice or ill intent in him. And yes to Lee JaeWook as a convincing actor. He plays his characters well. I never really have to second guess if he’s not giving us what his character is actually thinking. It’s a credit to him that he can convey all that will the little screen time he’s had. He may be jealous but he’s not “evil” to the core. It’s more like sibling rivalry.

SKJ doesn’t have that same depth for me. I have to guess at his thoughts sometimes (not all the time). So he stands there at times with this blank look and I have to work out if his character is supposed to be really blanking out or if he doesn’t know what to do in that situation as an actor so he decides to just act blank by default. Much like Haru in Extraordinary You.

  16. @nrllee, I agree with you about these two actors at this point in the drama. For his age, Lee Jae Wook is a very convincing actor and it’s hard not to focus on him.

I’m hoping for more from SKJ from this point forward. I haven’t seen the actor’s other roles and there are gaps in his character’s back-story, so perhaps as some point ES learned to hide his feelings?

Speaking of gaps, did I miss where ES went for a couple of years? When HW and her aunt were in the car in ep 1, the aunt recalled that he had been gone but not missing. She didn’t explain. Military, travel, ill, education?

  17. I don’t really care about JW more than that. He’s the typical friend who loved to brag about himself to get the attention of others but doesn’t deceive anybody. In the same time, he’s the one who get people together and pushes them together (voluntarily or by mistake). He doesn’t have feelings for HW but for his colleague.

I’m way more curious about ES. He left the village during a time, opened the book shop 3 years ago, what did he do before?

For the acting, I don’t see ES as bland at all. He’s the guy who just observes quietly things around him but notes everything about HW.

  18. Thanks @packmule3 and everyone for a very interesting discussion on JW and ES. I didn’t realise I’d asked a question that had so much ‘meat’ to its answer! LOL. I’m glad @pkml3 ships scripts and takes the trouble to lay them all out. Seeing the flow of events from the dialogue, JW is very suspect indeed and has become extremely intriguing.

Although not malicious, his character is a necessary pusher and poker to get more conflict going around the almost inert ES. He does seem, to me, desperate in some way. His coming back to his sleepy town, instead of flying high in Seoul is certainly something questionable. Did he fail to make his mark, and return to lick his wounds, or like @Fern says,… was he desperate to be recognised in a place where he was better known, and not many others could boast of having been to Seoul U.

I’d also like to know if his return coincided with ES’s.

I feel a sense of desperation about him, as if he is aware that compared to the quietly self-contained ES, he is lacking in confidence and more. He is possibly jealous that without winning accolades, ES is respected. Perhaps by rubbing shoulders with him and getting ES to pay him attention, he hopes to have some of that recognition rub off on him too.

Generally, I feel, he’s desperate for acknowledgement, like when he was on the way home, he wanted Hwi to recognise him as the no. 1 of the top 3.

The reunion scene where he was determined (desperate?) to get a fellow scapegoat in ES is also interesting. He might not have wanted to be embarrassed in front of the ex-classmates, but at the Book Club, when he was about to relate his Natasha story, he was distracted by the teasing, and couldn’t even tell his story. At least he was the centre of attention, but perhaps he only wants a certain kind of attention.

I wonder if he’s just got into the habit of trying to get ES to react or respond to him, to him and if he is even fully aware of why he does what he does around ES. In any case he’s a character to keep watching more closely.

  19. @packmule3, I saw the scene with the bikes. ‘ ES chose to bike away then and JW chased him’ but it was probably an expanded flashback as it is in ep. 6.

I am liking this drama more and more as past situations get revealed.

  20. Thanks!

I’m not “socially distancing” myself from all of you on my blog, okay? I just had a lot of work to do yesterday.

I’m writing another blog post on Hospital Playlist so it should be up today.

And then another post on a Cdrama to “socially distance” from. hahaha.

    See you in a bit.

  21. Glad to know that! 😆

Oh a cdrama to distance from. Interesting. 🤔

  22. Hahaha. That’s the “buzz word” now: social distancing.

I’m not not social distancing from you. I went to the office yesterday. And now I’m working on things.

  23. I know your not. 😄

But yeah our take on social distancing last night at dinner – we all had our own vinegar sauces for the fried fish. 😂

Mom was like ‘what’s with the many separate vinegar sauces?.’ I said sister said social distancing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  24. Hahaha. You mean those little dipping sauce bowls?

But hey, vinegar should be a good disinfectant too. If you run out of purell, vinegar should work (as long as you don’t mind the smell). lol.

I know, right? We went to church on Sunday and when it was time for “Peace be with you,” instead of exchanging a quick hug like we normally do, my husband and I just looked at each other and bowed because of this “social distancing” thing.

I had to laugh because we still share a bed, right?

We went to the earliest morning mass. Had there been a cell of coronavirus floating around, that mass would have been easy target because the attendees were senior citizens. Two people coughed and I had to “cement” my neck to my shoulder to stop myself from turning around to see who they were. Ugh. I was so bad.

  25. Yes, it’s those little saucer bowls. 😄 Yup, vinegar is definitely a disinfectant too. 👍🏻

Oh you do a hug with hubby, ours is a kiss on the lips. 😉 Hubby and I have done it ever since we got married so now we can’t do it anymore. Actually here at our mass, once the priest says peace be with you, and with your spirit, he continues to lamb of God already. We totally skip even the bowing to everyone.

Church will be interesting because last Sunday we were told no more than 500 in a gathering, now its limited to 100, so our mass will definitely be hit. Unless we go the 8am mass. 🤔 Maybe that’s the solution.

Yup, we have to careful that way. I mean i can’t imagine it when I sneeze now.!my sneeze is more like a cough. 😆

  26. @packmule3 and agdr03, glad to hear from you.

  27. Have you found any online courses for your daughter?

I’ve spoken with other parents with kids and they’ve lined up online SAT preps for their children, online classes (i.e., science classes for enrichment) and also reading lists. They’re requiring their kids to write a short paragraph. Those with younger children have assigned math exercises from workbooks. My friends know that if they don’t supervise and manage their children’s time, they’ll be watching Netflix/Amazon prime all day.

I’d recommend learning a computer language. (Is this your daughter who was playing a simulation game last time?)

  28. @packmule3, by computer language do you mean IT study or online foreign language? I will suggest it. She’s 18 and nearly house-bound for reasons I don’t want to explain here.

Younger daughter’s school has just announced closure. The schools here are well prepared with books, online learning etc. She is VERY sociable and can’t sit still literally. She was already stressing about how she will miss school. Happily, her track coach has sent her and some other sprinters some self training information. (He’s brilliant; a high school history teacher for his real job.) We’ll get through this. Weather permitting (Please, God)

  29. Yes. IT study as in computer programming.

Also, you might want to check Harvard’s online classes. They’re free. 🙂

Many universities here have free online programs for those who just want to take courses to keep mind active.

And ah! check out Kahn Academy. (I’m not affiliated with this so I’m not getting $$ for mentioning this) My children didn’t take online course back then, but I recently heard other parents in my office mention this site.

  30. Thank you for this information. It may be helpful to others as well.
I suspect that this virus will do more for online courses than all previous publicity put together.

  31. @Fern , we’re still not closing here but my boy’s were winging yesterday but lucky not this morning. 😁 I told them don’t expect to be playing with their gadgets or what not once school does close. I will monitor them big time.

Thanks for the online courses information @pm3. I’ll make a note of that.

    ‘We’ll get through this.’

    Amen! 🙏🏽

  32. I almost fell for that new guy in Ep 6. 🙂 I would have dated a guy like that in high school.

I hope he doesn’t turn out to be a bully.

  33. Wow, I would have had a crush on him. He was a bit of a lad and an alpha type. He was aware of that but also aware of HW’s needs. He did that simple but great gesture of sitting with HW ‘because there are no other seats’ which enabled her to get her life back. Loved him jettisoning the drink and using the glass as a holder for his ipod. Will he be back? It seemed like she said a definite farewell to him. He listened and left without insisting. She told ES that she was burdened by those whom she rejected who kept returning. We shall see.

I’m more worried about the preview scenes after 6 where ES seems to be in bits.
