Love is All: Open Thread

Now it’s all over, now looking for something new to watch during lockdown.
Starting to get into “Love is All”. Episodes 1-6 are now on YouTube.

It started considerably lighter than Dr Cutie. However, there is a consistent underlying thread of a detective mystery going through it.

I like the leading lady, who is very like Janice Wu. Very good facial expressions and lots of over the top behaviour. However, she is also capable of being serious. Nice interactions with the leading man, who of course she manipulates.

There is one lady cross dressing, which works really well because she is tall and has quite a deep voice.

I don’t know when I can fit this into my schedule but I’m posting this as a virtual bookmark. You may leave your comment here to update or to badger me. 🙂

“Love is All” was one of the Cdramas I was waiting for. I liked the premise: quirky, rich girl meets staid magistrate. She’s running away from her fiance (right?) while he’s running away from the hordes of women after him…thanks to her romance fiction.

She likes to read — and writes — romance books. I guess the guy isn’t supposed to be into those romance books, but (I think) he’s a closet romantic. Didn’t he attend one of her public readings?

Although she hasn’t him (HIM!) personally, she uses him as her prototype in her stories. With her fantastic imagination, she weaves stories and stories about him which captivate the hearts of readers everywhere. Just like how Mr Darcy is to many of us here in BitchesoverDramas.

So of course, the guy is mortified. He’s become the talk of the town because of a serial romance, or “chick lit,” as we call it nowadays.

Then, she ends up working for him as her…

Given this set-up, why wouldn’t I like this Cdrama? It hits all the right notes. There’ll be lots of occasions for hi-jinks, and light and fluffy romance.

Six episodes are already up on Youtube, but there are 26 episodes slated. The drama ends its run May 27. I can begin watching sometime before then. That way, I don’t have have to wait long for the finale. “Dr. Cutie” just about killed me with the suspense of waiting for the subs to go up.

I’ll bribe @agdr03 to watch it with me. She can start ahead of me. Thanks for the rec. See you later. 🙂

  1. Been searching for my next cdrama. Thanks for this. The lead girl was in Everybody Wants to Meet You.😊

  2. I skimmed the first 30 minutes of it. I like the guy. He looks older than the girl, but he seems stable.

One thing I like about these fluffy Cdramas is that they’re great for relaxing. Not much angst is going on.

  3. His side profile looks like Kim MinJae🤭🤭

  4. Count me in! ☺️ I’ve finished Memorist and APOYM so I only have HP, TK:EM and SITR.

I have been looking for a new cdrama so this might be perfect. The plot is definitely interesting and yes, only 26 episodes. 😊

I agree @miracle23, he looks like KMJ on that poster.

  5. I am new to this site since I am looking for Love is All discussion.
I come to the drama cause I am in love with Zhang Ruo Nan (the female lead). I watched her in Everyone wants to mee you and I think she is really cute. Then the male lead is from Joy of Life crown prince and I was like “I am in”. I want to see more of her and I want to see more of him, I love both Joy of Life and Everyone wants to meet you.

They are surprisingly really cute together. She is so casual towards him, she touches him freely and she just talks her mind and he was like “Are you real girl?”.

She also so good at being cute all of a sudden which is what this drama needs. He reacted as he bothered but not offended, he just looks at her and like “I can tolerate this”.

The plot premise is really good, this can be a tragedy in another writer. A runaway bride meets and an undercover king’s man. I’ve watched 6 episodes and I like it so far but take it with a grain shalt since I am so charmed with the cuteness, I hardly can care about the plot, I am in glee whenever they both in the screen.

I agree that the disguised girl does look like a man, it’s quite convincing.

nb: I’ve finished Dr.Cutie like a month ago, it was in English in the Youtube official channel. Idk if I can put a link here.

  6. Hi Shenwei. We already watched Dr Cutie. I reviewed some of the episodes too. You can look them up.

The only thing is I skipped Eps 25 and 26 (or is 24 and 25?). 😂 So my reviews are incomplete…as usual.

Thanks. I will watch Love is All. It’s on To Watch list since January. 😂😂

  7. Please do finish Dr Cutie 😉

Love Is All is in Viki too but their rating is low, not that we pay attention to it. It looks funny and cute. I’ll try to start this coming week. 😊

  8. While it is fresh in my mind, some random thoughts after watching the trailer for Episode 6. Yes, it is much lighter and fluffier than Dr Cutie.

Zhang Ruo Nan (the female lead) is very good at expressing moods with her facial expressions. Her interactions and chemistry with the male lead remind me of Myrna Loy in the Thin Man.

I like the way she is expecting him to do something romantic, but he always does something different.

Looking forwards to Episodes 7 and 8, for the first time since Dr Cutie.

  9. Thanks for the feedback @HEHarry 🙂 I still haven’t had time to watch it but I will get there.

There’s actually a few cdramas out there that looks interesting but I just haven’t got the time to fully check it all out. 🙂

  10. I’m watching it right now. 🙂

I’m taking a break before I watch The King and Lee MinHo. 🙂

  11. Okie! Enjoy! 🙂 Maybe I’ll have time today. Will you do a first impression on it?

  12. Probably no… not right now. I’ll watch it because I think a break from Korean actors, and writers.

I need to watch Timothée Chalamet’s The King on Netflix, too. My (ex)bookclub ladies harassed me to join their film critique/husband-free zone on Zoom so I’ve to get ready. I’ve been missing in action bec of this blog so I’ll join them for this one.

Then I’ll watch Lee MinHo. I

So my three hours on film viewing starts now. 😂 My hubby’s watching Medici right beside me.

    Bye!

  13. No worries! Enjoy! 🙂

I saw that Timothée Chalamet’s The King on Netflix, too. Have fun critiquing. 🙂 I’ll be off to cooking our lamb cutlets and baked cauliflower in about an hour.

  14. I’m on to this one now. It is funny. I think this is a good pairing too even if it’s my first time with this actor and actress. 😊

  15. I find the guy likable. I don’t know why.
    The girl, too.

    Check your email, please. 🙂

  16. The guy looks matured but still pleasing to the eyes and the girl is pretty. ☺️

I’m sorry I was late in checking my email before as I was driving. Are you still going to put it up?

  17. Episode 4 was a ruckus! Ling Yin is brazen and really is very handsy with Tianyuan while he doesn’t mind saving her when she trips or falls down something. 😄

They fell asleep in the steps outside the autopsy room as they got locked in and she just slapped him because she was dreaming that she actually married the guy she was running away from. Ouch! 😂

  18. I’m onto this one, getting addicted because the couple here is a good match too. ☺️ I’m on episode 9. Just some comments.

    – I like the start of the story where we get LingYin’s fall into Tianyuan while riding his horse. Later when Tianyuan mentioned about this incident to assistant, he said that’s the start of a perfect love story. 😄
    – The scene with the splashing of water worked really good especially when she got caught off balance. Never seen it before. 😄
    – LingYin is quite bold to keep using Tianyuan in her novels (the name she used for him In the novel is Tai Feilong). 😁 Funny though that Tianyuan knows her as the novelist but she doesn’t know him as the real Tianyuan. 😁
    – Oh I’ve never seen a manicure scene where the male lead blows on the female lead’s fingers. 😃
    – Ah so the reason why LingYin was attached to his name was because Tianyuan helped her solve the mystery of her Mom. She died in the fire and her Dad got framed as the murderer but Tianyuan solved it. That was their first meeting and so he now remembers her.
    – Since he remembers her now, I think there’s interest from him now.
    – Watch episode 5 from 24:34. She’s applying ointment on his cheeks from a cut but she asks him ‘if men like this kind of touch?’ 😂 She’s trying to experiment on him while Tianyuan becomes more uncomfortable. 😂
    – I’m really liking this pair now by episode 6. ☺️
    – Oh he gave her a hairpin! 😍 She was looking at someone else’s hairpin and he noticed. So by episode 6, he gave her one. She thought it was only copper but it’s gold plaited copper called Seven-treasure One Heart hairpin meaning BEING ONE OF HEART! 🥰

It’s interesting now because her supposed fiancé is in town now with the group. Tianyuan is trying to win her now but it’s a struggle. 😃

  19. Thanks, @agdr03. I took a peek last night… when I shouldn’t have because I had to write something on TK:EM. I like the guy. I don’t know why. But I like him.

  20. Yes, me too. He’s not as aloof as JH but he can easily read LingYin too. So far he’s cooked for her, made her see fireworks and he was there to catch her when she fell a few times. 😉

  21. Oh when you have time watch episode 10 from 17:56 onwards, she’s drawn a contract for their pretend 3 month relationship but it goes funny then rawr. 😂

  22. Can I skip and go to ep 10? Wait I still have to finish another TKEM post for tonight.

  23. Take your time, no rush but I was laughing one minute then I was like, wow, this guy sure knows how to make you swoon! 🥰

  24. swoon? Did you say swoon? Okay. Let me drop this TKEM first. lol.

  25. 😂 yup, a swoon move! I’d forgotten how good it is to see a couple eat the same thing. 😉

  26. @agdr03: I didn’t know it was a currently airing show, so I binge watched and realized that I have to wait 🙁

Haven’t watched Dr.Cutie (yet) , but this one is super fun and full of fluff!
The lead pair is so cute together that I really don’t care that much about the plot.

  27. @toc7, yeah I was left hanging too because I finally watched it and was so excited but I got to episode 14 and nothing after that. 😟Episode 15 won’t come till after 2 more days.

I agree this is just fun and the leads are definitely cute together. ☺️ Try to watch Dr Cutie, I love that one too. 😉

  28. I’m waiting for episode 19 of this one and I’ll finish it but I’ve started on The Romance of Tiger And Rose. I like it. ☺️ Only 24 episodes. Please check it out when you have time as it an easy watch too. Here’s the synopsis.

Chen Xiao Qian, an unknown screenwriter who’s been single since birth, worked really hard and finally finished a grand drama of a heroine. It was planned to started filming, but stopped because the actor Han Ming Xing questioned a lot about the script. One day, she accidentally got stuck in her own script and turned into the third princess of Huayan city, a city where females dominate. The third princess past self was determined to marry Han Shuo, a crown prince of the enemy city despite being engaged to Pei Heng, a ministry of education. The little support role of Third Princess revises the whole play to survive and eventually develop her relationship between prince Han Shuo and Pei Heng.

  29. I finally finished this series and I actually liked it because there wasn’t so much angst and the storyline was straight forward. I thought the way it was filmed was very relaxed like the lead actor didn’t need to shed tears, the lead actress did shed tears but only a few times. I felt there was a lot of just go with the flow scenes. There were more tears shed between the second lead couple, which I didn’t mind. I thought Zhang Ruo Nan was great as Tan Ling Yin, she’s cute/pretty and yeah she’s a great storyteller. 🙂 Zhang Hao Wei is charming as Tang Tian Luan, a great cook and very smart. Together they make a cute couple and it matters a lot if I like the couple, otherwise I wouldn’t finish it. Their romantic scenes was good, as in I felt the emotion in them. He actually gave up being the Emperor’s right hand man for TLY at the end which says a lot. 🙂 There was good kisses too so that’s a bonus. 🙂

Thanks for the recommendation as always. 🙂 I’m off to my other two cdramas. LOL. I want to watch Fated To Love You because there’s a new cdrama remake of it and it’s currently airing. I want to watch the kdrama first then move on to the cdrama version.

  30. Can you believe I finished 2 cdramas? 😱😁 If you have time please check out Intense Love. I have a feeling this might have been the supposed Yang Yang and Zheng Shuang drama that didn’t happen simply because the role was a doctor and an actress. I enjoyed it, not a lot of angst and nice kisses. He’s cold but really caring and smart while she’s got a good heart and too nice. Their engage since they were born so the story revolves around falling in love and handling the issues of a relationship. Just putting it out there for you. ☺️

  31. Feel a little guilty here. Started the thread but did not comment that much.

I enjoyed this Chinese drama a lot. Excellent facial expressions from the leading lady. Really liked the interactions between the leading man and leading lady. Thought that their relationship was interesting. She treats him more like a brother than a lover. For example, when he kisses her, she pokes him in the ribs. As a male, viewer, not sure why she does that.

At first I thought the general was miscast. He didn’t come over as a military man at all. However, later on in the series found out why he was given the role because he is very good at being love-sick!

No Chinese drama would be complete without cross dressing and in this drama it is particularly effective as the lady concerned is tall and has a deep voice. Thought it was funny when the love-sick general was pouring out his heart about his true love to what he thinks is his male colleague, but is actually her. Liked the way she had to dash between her two roles as a dancer and a government official.

Thought the plot had a consistent thread. It started as the leading lady hero worshipping the leading man through her novels, but it then turned into a detective story. I thought that where the gold was hidden was excellent as nobody would look for it there. Overall nice and fluffy with a happy ending.

Now getting into Oops! The King is in Love, which is now on YouTube.
