Psycho But It’s Okay (PBIO): @Snow Flower’s Original Compositions

Aren’t we all lucky? We have a composer, @snowflower, in the house to share her wonderful talent with us. Whenever she’s inspired by a kdrama, she writes us a melody.

Thank you, Snowflower!!

Let’s enjoy her music.

@Snow Flower, BRAVA! I heard rain, and I heard waves. The melody was sometimes melancholy, sometimes sweet, sometimes victorious, and sometimes surprising.

Fern said:

@Snow Flower, thank you for this beautiful piano piece. I love how the moods change. I can’t say it better than Welmaris, but I am envious of your talent for expressing a scene in music.

About lighthouses: they have two main and distinct functions in navigation. They may be an aid to indicate dangerous areas, like a reef or rocks. Or they may show the way to a safe harbor. Alone, the lighthouse may have been MY’s dangerous destination, but with the arrival of GT, the lighthouse becomes an image of welcome and shelter.

And @Growing_Beautifully wrote:

Lovely @Snow Flower. I am listening to your Lighthouse in the Rain again now. When I closed my eyes, I saw the rain and the light’s reflections on the water and in the falling drops. There is such a sense of hope and delight even in the midst of the rain and in the dark. And the lighthouse continues to beam its light throughout.

These are @snow flower’s other compositions.

For TKEM. It’s called “Mirror of Solitude.”

How lovely! A thread for the original compositions. Thanks @pkml3. And thank you @Snow Flower!!

  2. I forgot to rename the TKEM piece. I listed it as Mystery because it did not have a name, and Mystery sounded better than Untitled. I am thinking about renaming it Mirror of Solitude.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement.

  3. This is so beautiful @snowflower!! ❤❤ Thank you for sharing to us your talent! 💖

  4. That was most lovely to listen to @snowflower! I really enjoyed this piece. Thank you. Hope you will do more, PBIO only just started!

To me, I envisage MY and GT dancing a contemporary ballet duet together pulling and pushing apart😍

Thanks too @packmule3 👏 for putting it together from all 3 dramas!

  5. My goodness @snowflower that was beautiful. ❤️

Like @GB I can hear the rain and the waves and picture the lighthouse perched on a hill overlooking it all.

  6. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Heh @nrllee glad you could see and hear the rain and the lighthouse too! 😁

    BTW, could you email me?

  7. @GB was I meant to email you? I don’t have your email address. You can find me on my Twitter handle (same username) and msg me there and I will send you my email address.

  8. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@nrllee I’m hopeless with Twitter. I searched for your handle and there was one and the message was to click ‘Follow’. I hope I’m following the right nrllee!!! Or simply, if you don’t mind, email me at growingbeautifully88@gmail.com.

  9. @GB I sent you an email.

  10. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Strange, @nrllee… I didn’t receive any email except from BOD WordPress. I checked spam as well. Nothing. Please see if my email address is right. Thanks!

  11. Just tried it again. I think I spelt gmail wrong. 😂.

  12. Growing Beautifully (GB)

    Thanks @nrllee… received and replied!

  13. Rest in peace, Ennio Morricone. One of the greatest and most inspired composers of movie music…

  14. Oh noo I just saw your post @snowflower. Rest in peace Mr.Ennio Morricone 🙏 I will always treasure the two most beautiful OSTs you gave us. The Mission and Cinema Paradiso.

  15. @Carolstar, I was not planning to do another piece inspired by PBIO, but your comment about our main characters dancing a ballet together was so spot on! The metaphor is very accurate, and is immediately applicable to music. And where is such a dance taking place? At the Cursed Castle, of course! I cannot promise to whip up a new piece every week, but who knows how inspiration will strike? Kdramas and music are my coping mechanism in times of isolation. Thank you and stay tuned!

  16. That’s beautiful !!

  17. @Snow Flower: Wow, this was simply beautiful, I had it on repeat for awhile! I especially liked the running notes of the bass line, made me think of waves crashing on the shore. Looking forward to more pieces!

  18. @Snow Flower: You are so talented! Every composition of yours perfectly reflects the mood you are trying to capture! Thank you for sharing this🙂

  19. @Snow Flower! Congrats for another beautiful piece! Meaningful Kdramas and this blog allowed a person’s craft to shine! Your music are very suitable for this show, thank you and wishing for more pieces!

  20. The notes on the piano sound like raindrops. Well done. 😉

  21. Ahhh @Snowflower! Definitely Cursed Castle material. I sensed the winding up of a foreboding and a spiel of dancing into a dreamlike state in the middle part of the score especially. Haha I was imagining the two main leads as kids happily picking up flowers and playing together as children should be when your music became lighter. But you came back with the haunting beat in the end, I hope it’s not a prediction of their future!
Nevertheless it was an excellent piece. It was a haunting kind of Waltz. Bravo 👏👏 and Thank you too!
P.S I think MY would dance absolutely divine in a flared long tulle!

  22. @Carolstar, I was aiming for a melancholy (but not depressing) mood, with a hint of tension, and also butterflies. Happy childhood memories are exactly what I had in mind for the middle section.
I enjoyed listening to some of my favorite dark waltzes for inspiration. I like doing this kind of research!
As for the ending of the piece, next time I play it I can add a return of the happy middle section theme at the end and finish the piece with it. I have a feeling that the drama will have a happy ending.

  23. @snowflower love your compositions!

  24. @Snowflower! Sorry for such a late reply. Its been hectic again. I only managed to watch ep 6 and it looks like the healing has begun so am feeling somewhat relieved. So a happy ending is in store for us am sure 😅
Oh don’t go changing your piece on my account. Its yours! Yes its melancholic its cursed castle afterall! Am just thrilled to have thought the same childhood scene as you!😁
    I do enjoy your compositions!😍😍
    Thank you!

  25. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Lovely @Snow Flower!! Once again so right for this show, … for those scenes. I was smiling throughout just listening to you. Lightened my heart. 😄

  26. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Snow Flower, I see only 3 pieces in your Sound Cloud, did you remove one? Whenever I go back in I listen to all of them. Expected to see 4 pieces.😉

  27. @GB, I just checked and all 5 pieces were there.

  28. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Snow Flower Yes, great! I had to click on another icon in order to see more. 😌 However the link in the main thread also gives me the link to all 5. 😃

  29. @Snowflower! Smile is just dulcet! Am so enjoying it as I imagine them doing their road trip with the car hood down and the evening sunset from behind them and everything is bathed in warm golden light 😍 Its like seeing their genuine happy smiles.
I haven’t the chance to watch the latest two episodes yet😲 so I don’t know if they did do a trip.
I am not musically trained but I felt a slight refrain coming through from the lighthouse score perhaps…?

Oh I did check out Arro Part though! Thank you so much for introducing him. I simple love his style. His music speaks to my soul. I don’t know if your watched A piece of your mind..the OSTs there are superb and has the same melancholy feel as this composer.
Thanks once again @Snowflower ❤ I am soothed by Spiegel im spiegel and your scores when I need a breather.

  30. @Carolstar, thank you! I am currently processing Episodes 9 and 10 in order to decide what to write about.

Arvo Part is amazing indeed! I highly recommend his choral music too.

I have not seen A Piece of Your Mind, but I have read good things about it (including good OST) so I will keep it in mind for my next kdrama watch.

  31. Here is my piece for Episodes 9 and 10:

    https://soundcloud.com/user-858010722/missing-you

  32. Aww thanks @Snow Flower for this latest composition, Missing You. I love the title and I can totally see MY in her balcony thinking of GT while listening to this. 🥰

  33. Oh it’s lovely @Snow flower! Thank you😍 Another winner for me. 😍 It’s like a subdued version of Smile to me. I love the notes/keys? you are playing them in.
You have to listen to A piece of your mind Ost then there are original compositions in there as it has a pianist character in it.

  34. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Thanks @Snow Flower for another piece of music. Wow! Intense. The flutter of wings called forth by your music in my mind’s eye, was ominous to me!! I feel the oppression of that ‘shadow’ and how terrible it must have been to have lived years under it.

With the return of that shadow, it will take a strong MY to shake off the submission of her youth to face it head on, in the person of someone who purports to be her mother.

I hope you might be inspired to do one more composition for this show, a happy one to reflect what I anticipate will be a healing and hopeful ending. 🙂

  35. @GB, I plan to write a piece covering the last 2 episodes. I am also working on my musical impression for Episodes 11-12. I did not write anything for Episodes 1-2, so maybe I will go back. 3 pieces short of a complete set!

  36. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Snow Flower Woah! That sounds like you’ve really been inspired by this show. You’re also going to be BUSY! You’ve written 5 pieces already based on PBIO, and are adding 3 more to make 8? Pardon my ignorance, but why do you consider 8 pieces a complete set?

I look forward to your next works! 🙂

  37. The show has 16 episodes and I have been writing one piece a week. I watch 2 episodes every weekend, and then give myself a deadline to compose something by the following Friday. I was traveling last week, so I am a little behind schedule.

  38. Hi @snowflower! Late here too! Just want to say Bravo 👏👏 the title of that score is on point! Definitely felt the trepidation and the nervous flutters it evokes. But we have our happy ending so am looking forward to your happy pieces! Wow like what @GB said you are going to be so busy composing! Hwaiting 👍👍

  39. I composed 2 more pieces in the last couple of days. Only one left. Thank you for your patience.

  40. Growing Beautifully (GB)

No worries @Snow Flower. Take your time. Am listening to your melodies on Sound Cloud now while I wait. 🙂

  41. Full list of my compositions inspired by PBIO:

    Episodes 1-2: Your Eyes
Episodes 3-4: Lighthouse in the Rain
    Episodes 5-6: The Cursed Castle
    Episodes 7-8: Smile
    Episodes 9-10: Missing You
    Episodes 11-12: Happy Birthday, Juliet
Episodes 13-14: Shadow Cast by Butterfly Wings
    Episodes 15-16: Family Portrait

    Thank you for listening!

  42. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Thanks @Snow Flower. Your melodies capture the mood and one of the outstanding aspects of the Episodes. I recall the eyes without any warmth with “Your Eyes” as MY stares unblinkingly, unsmiling.

“Happy Birthday Juliet” reminds me of how MY turned up like a waif at Ju Ri’s home and got fed seaweed soup for her birthday. There’s a sense of longing to belong and yet a proud independence in the tones.

“Family Portrait” sounds like a sadly hopeful waltz, danced by our 3 protagonists.

I know you tagged these under melancholy, but I find them mournfully, happy LOL. My fave for easy listening still remains the light, and calming lullaby, “Evening Star”. It carries such a nice uplifting childlike cadence. I find myself swaying to it.

  43. @GB,

I composed Your Eyes after having watched the entire show. I thought about what it was for GT to meet his first (and only) love for the second time. He must have been overwhelmed by the painful memories associated with MY and yet he also longed to look into her eyes again.

Happy Birthday, Juliet was actually inspired by the kiss scene in Episode 11. There is still some fluttering anxiety in the middle section.

I knew the finale piece was going to be called Family Portrait even before I watched the last 2 episodes. The whole show was about lost souls finding their way home, and I thought that having a family portrait was a good metaphor for our characters’ journey.
As for the music, I tried to imagine something that would fit a silent movie with a happy ending. Watching old family videos also feels like watching silent movies.

  44. Growing Beautifully (GB)

You did a great job @Snow Flower. Your music augmented my memories of those scenes with a layer of emotion. Please let us know when you’re next inspired to compose for another show!! 😘 😄

  45. Hey Ladies,

The first K-drama I watched was “It’s okay to not be okay” or psycho but it’s okay.
I will definitely listen to @SnowFlower songs!

  46. Thanks, @Cleopatra.
