Thanks @pkml3! Gosh, I forgot it’s Friday and the next episode’s rolling around again!!!

  2. It’s one drama after another. But as long as they stay in the fantasy world, I don’t mind.

September is going to be a fun month.

I also have my eyes on “School Nurse Files.”

  3. School Nurse Files looks super fun!

  4. Okay, Professor Taeyi says that her BIRTH MOTHER was the one who left her at the orphanage.

And the College Girl Taeyi was 22 in 2010.
    If she’s 22 in 2010, then she was 4 in 1992.
She canNOT be Dr. Jang’s daughter then, because Dr. Jang’s daughter didn’t look 4 years old in 1992.

So where’s the daughter? How come nobody’s looking for her? Doesn’t anybody care about her?

She still has the missing page.

  5. @packmule3 yeah that confused me a bit. Who is the little girl? Unless she’s yet another TY…

Prof TY did say that she wanted to travel back in time to that moment when her mother left her at the orphanage? It sounds like the whole Alice concept.

So according to the pirate (henceforth to be referred to as such because he looks like he has a peg leg) the book ends time travel. So it makes sense that Dir Seok would want the prophecy to be fulfilled because he doesn’t believe in time travel…you shouldn’t mess with it.

What’s interesting is that when JG went back to 2010 and then returned to 2020, he lost time? He only spent a day (if that) in 2010 but he was gone a week in 2020. The opposite of what happened when you travel from 2050 back in time. Where 29years in 2020 is like a year in 2050? Or am I overthinking this? 🤔

    Dir Oh is definitely suspicious.

  6. PS how did Seok in 2010 know JG? He recognized him straight away and told him his mom was in danger? Was he watching him (as a student) this whole time? And he said “tonight is the Red Moon”. So he knew she was going to be killed that night. How though? If it was predicted in the book, then assuming Mom TY was the one with the book, why was she not more careful? 🤔

Cynical thoughts: the hit man is so much more effective than Min Hyeok. He goes and gets the job done even elaborately. However MH failed to bring back the book, he failed to take down Jin Gyeom, he failed to avoid getting handcuffed twice, he gets interrogated and sent to jail in 2020, and he’s still considered by the Alice boss to be the best man they have for the job, although it’s a large organisation with so many agents. I just rolled my eyes.

The hunt for the daughter of the Dr Jang is only just mentioned in this episode. Feels a bit slow.

JG really should stop doing things entirely on his own and to brief his associates more. I’m tired of hearing him say that they don’t need to know or he’ll tell them later. This is going to lead to more ‘death’, now that a really effective assassin is around.

  8. There’s been some speculation that the little girl is actually TY. And she was so traumatized by the events of that night that she mistook the person taking her to the Orphanage as her birth mother? There were no pics of the mother at all in Ep1 in the photo frames. Just of her and her dad. Someone suggested that maybe adult TY took her her young self to the Orphanage. But I thought the child ended up in the custody of the Police. 2050TY stayed to watch Police take her and then left with MH? I can’t see how she could’ve somehow gained custody of the child to take her to the Orphanage. If she did, it would’ve been very lax on the part of the Police to just let anyone take the child. Wouldn’t she go to social services or something?

I haven’t watched last night’s installment @GB. But I am already anticipating plot holes… we’ll see how it goes.

@nrllee Your questions are pertinent. If Prof Tae Yi is right and she was left at the orphanage by her birth mother, then the little girl who’s supposed to be the daughter of Dr Jang is another child, whose name we have not been told. BUT …
AsianWiki has this portion at the end:

    Kim Ji-Yu – Yoon Tae-Yi (child)

I’m not sure if there were plotholes in ep 6, however, with all the drone stuff etc, it seems that Alice is strangely not on top of things. There’s another body who’s even more on the ball, able to get to kill our secondary side character so quickly. (I’m guessing the death of the pet will raise more hue and cry among viewers and the death of the human). We have not been shown how they know what they know, and even Alice is caught off guard, and don’t know who is besting them.

This episode is maybe paving the way for 2020 and 2050 people to be forced to work together.

Oh yes, we get confirmation that MH lied to the female agent, Oh Shi Young. When she asked if TY had taken the Book, he said no, and that Lee Se Hoon had not let it go. So (I guessed right) that is the reason no one from Alice was chasing Tae Yi was that they didn’t know she’d taken the Book.

We also hear that Mum TY had been working with Dir Seok O Won, to try to stop the events that were prophesied from happening.

If the Tae Yis that we’ve met so far don’t know the contents of the Book, then we will have yet another Tae Yi in the picture, the one who authored the Book (I’m guessing). There would have to be one who went back to the past and may either now be very old or dead, or who’s some one in the future who’s trying to sabotage the efforts to promote or discover time travel among folks of Alice and 2020 people, respectively.

  10. I don’t think she was traumatized that she mistook a police or social worker to be her birth mother, nrllee.

I originally thought that she was lying to gain JG’s sympathy and the card, so she concocted this story of her mom leaving her at the orphanage. I also considered that she had a partial amnesia due to shock, and she created a fake memory of mother instead of father.

But then her age is all wrong.

If she was 22 years old in 2010, then she’d be 4 years old in 1992. Dr Jang’s child was older than 4 in 1992.

😂 See the daughter in “Flower of Evil” for comparison. She’s 4 years old. Or remember the cutiepie in “Hospital Playlist.” He’s 4 years old too in the story, isn’t he?

I’m outright rejecting that theory that the Mom-to-be TY/Park SunYoung took the child to the orphanage. That’s dumb given her character traits, as we know them. It doesn’t make sense at all. 😂 She went into hiding for her unborn child so why would she stick around and meddle with the young daughter of Dr Jang?

I’ll watch Ep 6 later. Just finished Record of Youth.

  11. Yeah I know. Child looks too old to be 4. Who knows? We’ll wait and see. But I find the incompetence within Alice (as an organisation) annoying. On the one hand they tell their clients that murder is not okay but they go ahead and decide to kill JG regardless? What gives? 🙄. What’s the track record for this writer? I haven’t checked.

  12. Yes, who IS this writer? I want to know her record.

For a big corporation, the minions of Alice is definitely incompetent but we haven’t seen their big guys yet. Who’s the founder?

And I think we are ahead of the story so we’re always seeing the incompetence. Like, we knew that there were two sets of drones. MH and the Alice minions (and many viewers, mind you) thought they were the only ones flying that drone. I said there were two forces, counteracting each other. And that JG was up against, not one, but two factions. We knew that there was somebody else after the book but it didn’t dawn on MH that this would pose a problem because he was super-confident of Alice’s technology.

We’re ahead of the writer’s game so we can see the irregularities. But if you’re just a regular viewer, then yes…this story is riveting.

I think MH’s prime directive has been established from Ep 1. Usually in science fiction, the first rule for robotics and any sort of invention is “Do no harm to humans.” But to MH, it’s the reverse. “Do no harm to Alice.” And his reasoning is that many people have given up so much for this (lol!!! The irony of which he speaks!) that Alice project has to be preserved at all costs or the sacrifices of those would have be for nothing. So there’s that paradox right there.

To protect the sacrifice of the people who died for Alice, he’d sacrifice more people. Mom TY is right however. She told JG to let it go. Don’t join the fight. Stay out of it. Can’t return the past. Live for the present and so on.

    I’ll watch Ep 6 later.

  13. @packmule3 just looked up writer – unknown? This is his/her inaugural piece. 🤔

    https://asianwiki.com/Alice_(Korean_Drama)

  14. The other thing that annoys me is the attempt at humor that’s just haphazardly slotted in the drama. It just seems out of place? The constant bickering between gf DY and Prof TY for JG’s attention is a yawn fest. It just makes the whole pacing of the drama uneven? It switches from silly jealousy trope suddenly to somber Alice HQ talk in the very next scene? I find it hard to adjust and take the HQ talk seriously because of the sudden mood swing. And the attempt at humor is trite? 🙄.

  15. Okay. Now that you told me that this is the writer’s first kdrama, I’m going to dial my expectations down a notch.

That’s fine. Everybody has to start somewhere. 🙂

  16. I also am going to be so mad if JG and Prof TY ends up together. Even though they say Prof TY is a parallel version of JG’s mum, it would be disturbing on so many levels 😂😅

  17. Same here, pikaluna!!!! That’ll be revolting.

That’s why, unlike nrllee, 😂 I tolerate DY and Prof TY’s squabbles. I use it as a barometer that the writer hasn’t yet lost all senses and embarked on a Prof TY-JG love angle.

No matter how trite DY’s squabbles are with Prof TJ, and how serendipitous her discoveries are, (e.g., she found out about the drones, and the 1992 assassin — how did she do that?), I like that she’s still IN THE GAME. She’s the one blocking a romance between JG and Prof TY. She’s like “our” designated representative in the kdrama, raising a big stink, because it’s gross to have the son and his mother lookalike become lovers. She’s calling out the taboo.

As long as she’s there, I don’t have to worry about a JG and Prof TY romance.

The couple toothbrushes were cute, though.

  18. I agree about the mother-son romance. Big no for me. I hope JG’s silence and choice not to include DY in the conversation doesn’t end up getting her killed. He’s already gotten her involved by having her conduct all the background research.

Detective dad mentioned he had a son who died? Could he also have wanted to go back in time to change that? 🤔. What was he doing running away at the crime scene?

  19. @PikaLuna @packmule3 @nrllee – JG has not shown any photos of his mother to Prof TJ though she knows they look similar. Once she see’s a photo of JG’s mom, I guarantee any romance will quickly fade away. Plus, we DY to block that. I cringe heavy any time Prof TJ and JG have what seems to be romantic moments.

  20. Same here, John_L.

Especially when Prof TY gives the coy look. I’m writing about the spaghetti scene right now. I wanted to throw the bowl at her.

  21. Same @packmule3. She keeps denying it to DY but she flirts with him? 🙄

  22. One thing I learned from kdramas: women can tell whenever another woman is being a “fox” — just like what that nurse said in Hospital Playlist when Mina the Bear was being overworked. lol.

  23. @packmule3 yeah. I found her obsession with the time card and how she pleaded with him to let her examine it disconcerting. It wasn’t dignified. I know it’s just part of the story and she needs to be obsessive about time travel but it just didn’t go down well. I think in part that’s why I prefer DY. She’s throwing herself at him too but it comes across as cute.

  24. Yup, watching Prof TY flirting with the oblivious JG is disturbing in soooo many level. I am ready to drop this one if ever writer went into that territory 😈.

  25. Since the drama writer is a novice, my guess is JG n Prof TY relationship would take the romance route. After all, the drama setting is In a multiverse, the same individual existing in each dimension has a different conscious, n maybe also a different psyche. Not to worry though, even if their romance advances, it would not come to a good end, Prof TY likely will have to die or something like that lol star-crossed -_- n

  26. @PM3, helloo! Long time! Sorry I have not been frequenting lately as I am writing my master thesis. After procrastinating for eternity I have finally started working, but still make time to watch my favorite dramas. As always guilty.
I am watching currently Do you like Brahms, When I was the prettiest, Missing the other side, Flower of evil (on hold after 8 episodes which is also very good), and also this one.
I would talk about this one but before that wanna mention that, I love do you like Brahms! I had no idea who Brahms was but then I looked it up and the story sounds so interesting and so similar to the storyline in the drama. But most importantly, the nuances in the writing is so good. I remember this writer cause she has written previously a one episode drama which was quite well done. So I know she is not just writing cliche. I love the small interaction between the leads, the shyness, the reserve, and introverted qualities they share, the stolen glances. It is just amazing and I think kim min jae is doing quite well in the role.
Coming to Alice now, the story is really good. It is almost like they did well where The king eternal monarch struggled a bit. The time travelling concept. It is dark and interesting and I don’t know where the story is heading. Which is nice as a viewer. Also I loved the mom-son pairing from episode 1. Kim hee sun as the mom was so good that seeing her trying to act like a romantic interest to joo won is quite ..disturbing and annoying. I might give up watching the drama soon if they continue this disgusting story arc. Which is quite stupid tbh, it was unnecessary and does nothing plot wise. Anyway, let’s see where it goes. The second male lead is also quite good and I am watching him doing a new type of role here and it is interesting for me. I like how he’s frowning all the time haha.
I could go on, but just wanna also mention that I also loved when i was the prettiest, mostly for ji soo haha. It has the vibes of old korean melodramas. And I am curious to see where it goes.
Anyway sorry for the big rant and now off to read!

  27. Hi there Nearsea. Are you still in Germany?

I’m trying to get my analysis of Alice 5 and 6 posted before I leave for the office. I’m so drained after work that I get headaches looking at the monitor. 😳

Yes. We all agree that the romance angle between JW and Kim TaeHee is such a revolting story arc.

Yes, I like the second male lead too. He looks 🤤 good in some scenes. And he’s the better match for TY. I think the guy who looks like a buffoon here is that Mr Universe/co-worker of JG who got beaten up badly.

If you want to look him up, he was in a “We Got Married” reality show. I can’t remember much of his virtual marriage but now that I see him in a different light, maybe I should rewatch. (lol. If I’ve time and if I can find the clips.)

  28. @Nrllee, @Pikaluna I feel the same. It is just so disconcerting to see that she is interested in jin geoum romantically. She is constantly chatting with her friend about the guy and then also the subtle push from the sister, unni, are you interested in the detective? I am so annoyed every time she tries to act coy with JG, baffles my mind. I don’t know what the director is trying to do here, not because kim hee sun is the main actress she needs to have the romance. I mean without romance the story is already doing alright. Do Yeon is the perfect match for JG, cause she knows him since his childhood and I think they are perfect for each other. In any case because of the professor’S constant nagging attitude, I am finding it hard to follow the drama. Anyway haha, sorry for complaining. Just that I want to watch the drama, but she is making it hard for me lol.
I was actually hoping that she would have some kind of romance again with JG’s father. Even that could work. But not with JG please. I don’t know what type of Freudian novel the writer is getting inspiration from. :/

  29. Just because kim hee sun is the main actress, she doesn’t need to have a romance arc.
