Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol: @JT7’s notes on the Mystery Man

Thanks, @JT7.

These are her notes. I’m just adding screenshots and some comments here and there.

**************

I did a quick rewatch of certain parts while folding the laundry. I realize the show gave us many clues wrt various characters that I missed out during the first watch, because my initial approach was to watch the show as a fluffy romcom. Plonking my notes on some characters here:

OLD MAN:

-He is shown in Ep 1 at the top of the cable car tower, as well as in Ep 3 when he asks Rara to play “The Maiden’s Prayer”.
-Might be the Mr Kim who owns the flower shop that Jun stays in (Asianwiki records his name as Kim Man Bok). Jun was said to have rescued Mr Kim from an accident and cared for him, and the shop was left vacant.
-Might be the person who calls Jun at the start of Ep 1 (Jun refers to him as grandpa). Jun was likely to be on his way to meet him/was doing an errand for him when Rara’s car collided into his bike.

Also, @JT7, Jun also doesn’t pay rent. It seems like Mr. Kim doesn’t need the money.

The old Man was also watching the Photographer that afternoon when all four gentlemen were at the observation deck. It would appear as if the Old Man knew the Photographer.

The three younger men wore different watches:

Jun

Doc

Photographer

PHOTOGRAPHER
-Shown in Ep 1 at the top of the cable car tower taking photographs. Wears a watch with a silver strap.
-Appears in Ep 2 at the meeting that Jun attends, watches on from the balcony as Jun gets into a fight to escape.

The name of the company is “Good&Good.” The photographer seems to be a corporate man. Perhaps he’s taken up photography as a hobby.

-Pops up again in Ep 4 when he visits the cosmetics shop where Jun is working at. Purchases a cosmetics set. Rara later receives a similar set that was left hanging on her front door (this set is not from Jun, and might not be from Dodosolsollalasol since the latter usually signs off).
-Might be the stalker: The closing scenes of Ep 3 show the stalker hanging up a recent photo of Rara printed off her SNS account. As the camera pans around the room, we see many photographs of Rara (likely printed off social media), as well as a shelf full of photographic equipment (with a camera similar to the one this guy was using, as well as binos, telescopes etc).

Her stalker had been observing her for a long time, it seems. His obsession with her wasn’t recent.

Here’s his shelf of photographic equipment that @JT7 mentioned. (Good eye, @JT7!)

Too bad he wasn’t wearing a watch this time.

UNKNOWN WELL-DRESSED PERSON

-Might be the mysterious Dodosolsollalasol (this is assuming that DDSSLLS is a different person from the stalker).
-First appears in Ep 1 in the scenes following the ones that show Dr Cha dressing up for work in his new workplace at Eunpo hospital (this coincides with the scenes of Rara driving to Eunpo). Person is shown getting dressed and wearing a watch with a black metal strap with a gold rim, as well as brown dress shoes. We are not shown his face.

Here’s the well-dressed man —

Based on the watch alone, this man was the body that washed up on the beach.

And his shoes matched the shoes of the man in Rara’s dream.

-Later appears at the start of Ep 2, in Rara’s dream, just before she wakes up in the hospital. The person is seated at the top of the cable car tower (the logo is visible), and his brown shoes and watch are shown. He walks off and Rara asks him to wait (this might mean she might have met him before, or knows him?).

This was the man in Rara’s dreams.

He looked at that watch.

He was wearing the same brogue shoes.

I’m not sure if Rara’s dream signified that she’d actually met the guy before in her life or that there was actually a guy waiting for her. This dream could just be her ideation, or her anxiety manifesting itself in a dream, that Dodosolsollalasol would leave her behind.

For now, I’m suggesting two theories, @JT7.

One, the stalker (aka the photographer) found out who the original Dodosolsollalasol was (i.e., the man in Rara’s dream) and killed him. He’s now going to target Jun because he saw Jun hanging around Rara.

Two, the stalker (aka the photographer) is the real Dodosolsollalasol and he’s killing men who have shown interest in Rara. He killed the Well-dressed Man first, and now he’s going after Jun.

That’s why he dropped by Jun’s store.

Fortunately, Jun noticed that the stalker/photographer observing him.

Anyway, there are probably more theories out there. Those are my two guesses at the moment.

-Is seen watching the flower shop from a distance during the opening of Lala Land in Ep 4.

@JT7, I think this man is the photographer, and not the Well-Dressed Man. The Well-Dressed Man was already dead and floating in the sea around this time.  🙂

-A body later washes up on the beach, wearing the same watch.

Yes, the director made it a point to show us that the watches were identical. This dead man is the man in Rara’s dream.

Per the police:

1. He died a month before.
2. The ID showed that his name ended with “Jun.”
3. He was reported missing six months previously.

Jun’s ID is found on him, and forensics estimate that this person has been dead for a month. (I’m assuming this is not Jun’s friend Ji Hun, since Ji Hun died about 6 months back, based on the date on his urn, 23/12/2019. Ep 4 probably happens in June 2020, as Rara’s wedding was on 2/5/2020, as stated on the wedding invite. Jun was said to have gone missing 6 months back, which coincides with the date of his friend’s death.)

A few more notes on this Kim JiHun:

This man has the same last name as the flower shop owner, but then the surname “Kim” is a ubiquitous as the surname “Smith” here in the US.

Yes, he died a couple of days before Christmas 2019.

Was Kim JiHyun the man sitting beside Jun as they watched Rara’s graduation recital?

From the shape of his head, I believe the guy on the right was Jun.

Jun’s friend sighed and said, “She’s totally my type.”

And this man (I believe he was Jun) was silent.

If the dead body that washed up on the beach was JiHyun’s, then whose ashes are those in the columbarium?

That’s it for now.

  1. I liked both theories @packmule! Both make sense. Whatever is the case, the photographer is definitely one suspicious guy. You have a point about the well dressed guy who was watching the launch of Lala Land from afar. I guess if DDSSLLS doesn’t turn up later it means he was that body that washed up. Also for a split second, I thought the man looked liked Rara’s father from the back.

I find that secretary is very suspicious too, and may have had a hand in the death of that man? We see him hanging out at sea in the yacht and asking to stay out in the waters, then later on the body washes up to shore.

I am assuming that Ji Hun was probably the guy who was sitting next to Jun at Rara’s graduation concert. Since he had expressed interest in Rara, that might explain Jun’s walking up to Rara at her wedding (to check if this was the same girl that his friend was interested in, but I think there are more details to this backstory we haven’t been shown yet), and also his wavering reticence wrt Rara trying to hug him (he might be wrestling with guilt wrt liking the girl his good friend likes?).

Finally I realize both Jun and Rara’s ex-fiancee are similar in many aspects: Both have overbearing mothers, seemingly absent fathers, both are rich, and their families move in the same social circles (since Jun’s mother attended Rara’s wedding and seemed to know the ex’s mother). But their responses to their circumstances are poles apart, with Jun choosing to run away, and the ex thinking of running but who never does.

  2. Thanks for this @JT7! Really appreciate it. ☺️ I’m going to read it properly again later. Im just trying to finish DYLB. 😊

  3. @JT7, I had this crazy thought that Ra Ra’s father is not dead. We shall wait and see.

  4. What the heck?!

🤦‍♀️ I didn’t pay attention to the dates! His friend was born in 2002! And they were classmates! Pwahahahaha.

  5. Are we getting into noona romance territory?😃

  6. @snowflower yes, I am wondering the same too regarding the father!

@packmule I noticed the date, and realized Jihun was only 17 when he passed! But initially I had assumed it was because the 2 guys were schoolmates but not classmates. Even so, its a large age gap, so maybe it was Jun who lied about his age. He didn’t offer his age but asked Rara about hers, then just said they were the same age when she answered him.

  7. Oh, how far is the age gap? 😆

  8. 5 years? If Jun is the same age as his friend, then he was born in 2002. And Ra Ra was born in 1997, according to Episode 1.

  9. Thanks @Snow Flower ☺️ 5 years is ok. 😊

I’ll see if I can watch before our rewatch.

  10. @agdr03, the 5 year dating rule exists where you live, too?! 🤣☺️

Shall have to watch episode 5 at breakfast tomorrow.

  11. You’re right! He lied about his age. 😡🤣

  12. It’s not so much the 5 to 6 year age difference that’s bothering me right now, but it’s his current age. He’s 18 years old. He’s a high schooler, my goodness.

There goes my wedding dreams. Sigh.

There has to be a time leap/fast forward somewhere in this story.

He’ll have to grow up a bit…no…a whole lot more.

I thought 24 was rather on the young side, but since they were the same age, I shrugged it off. But if he’s 18, he’s still in his late adolescence stage.

And yikes! If I were a 24 year old girl, I would check a guy’s ID to make sure that he was older than 18 before sleeping with him. To be on the safe side. I wouldn’t want to be charged with statutory rape because he was under the age of consent.

The period between 18 to 24 is when there’s a lot of personal growth and exploration going on — not to mention brain development. It coincides with the “college years.” It’s the optimum time to acquire a sense of identity, to develop peer relationships, to gain autonomy and independence from parental control, to establish a career, and so on.

    But marriage??? Settling down?

    Ouch! Reality bites.

  13. Ah thanks for answering my question, I was going to ask you what you think now with the age difference. I agree, it’s not the age difference as such but he is still very young at 18.

I’m ok with a time leap or waiting another 6 years (sounds a bit long though). Rara should be 30 by then. 🙂

Sigh! I might have to wait a bit for my first kiss too?

  14. @Fern, hehehe I don’t have those rules when it comes to age difference where people are in love. As it is, my sister’s partner is 7 years younger than her. hehehe

  15. Ah! I was hoping for a piano duet + first kiss with no interference from Dr Cha. Guess it’s not going to happen! And goodness yes, I’m not so bothered about the noona romance but more that Jun is just a big boy if he’s only 18. I hope we get that time leap otherwise it’s just weird? He does seem a whole lot more mature compared to regular 18 yos, he’s had to grow up really fast in those 6 months since he ran away.

  16. I agree that it’s Jun who was with the other guy at Rara’s graduation recital.

The photographer is creepy and it’s giving that vibe that maybe he is the stalker too.

    I’m not sure.

  17. Jae-Soo shows up. Do you like me or Jun better?

  18. Ooops, I realize I made a mistake, Rara went to Eunpo on 10/6, as Jun was billed for Mimi’s surgery only the day after. Have added a few more things to the timeline, @packmule could I trouble you to delete my previous comment please? Thank you!

    1997: Rara is born
    2002: Jun is born? (Jihun’s birthdate: 10/5/2002)
    2019: Rara’s graduation concert
23/12/2019: Ji Hun’s accident and death
~12/1/2020: Jun runs away from home (based on detective’s mention that he was missing 6 months before)

2/5/2020: Rara’s wedding, Rara’s father dies, Jun leaves for Eunpo
~14/5/2020: Jun gets pickpocketed at the Eunpo bus terminal
~22/5/2020: Jun saves Mr Kim’s life when he has a heart attack

10/6/2020: Rara goes to Eunpo, car crashes into Jun (date is based on vet’s bill for Mimi, which was given to Jun on the day after the accident, 11/6)
~12/6/2020: Unknown person possibly murdered and body is dumped with well-dressed man’s watch and Jun’s ID
~14/6/2020: Secretary Moon is seen in yacht off the coast

6/7/2020: Jun renovates flower shop to turn it into Lala Land
12/7/2020: Dead body found washed up with Jun’s ID and well-dressed man’s watch
22/7/2020, 5pm: Rara to meet Dodosolsollalasol

  19. I’m adding on to the timeline info, because Ep 6 gave us Jun’s birthdate. It’s actually shown at the top of Jun’s result slip in the scene when his father slaps him. Jun failed every subject because he left everything blank.

His birthdate is on 10/5/2002. Which means he shares the same birthdate as his friend Ji Hun (which might explain their closeness?). Interestingly enough, LJW’s actual birthday falls on 10/5 as well. 🙂

This means Jun was only 17 when he ran away from home, and when he met Rara at her wedding. He would have turned 18 after arriving in Eunpo, and he still has 9.5 months to go before he hits 19 (which is the age of majority in S.Korea. If he had been Captain Ri he wouldn’t have had to lie low since the age of majority in N.Korea is 17 I think?). Praying hard for a time jump, Jun quick grow up!
