Looked interesting. I watched the first two episodes and they different than what I have seen with historical dramas. The main lead is transported in time to the Joesan era as the queen and she is trying to figure out what happened and the politics that go with that. She is sad as the male lead becomes the female Queen and constantly upset, confused with her dragon (as what she calls). There are a few scenes where it is funny.
Anyway, more later. Happy watching.

I try to avoid Kissasian as much as possible because of their porn pop-up ads. Grrr.
Don’t use Kissasian packmule use fastdrama its better and less pop up than kissasian. I avoid kissasian with my life. Haha
And use adblock as well makes it so much easier to avoid them pop ups.:)
I am happy watching the first 2 episodes! As I expected, I laughed so much. For me, the actress is great… I hope you could watch it packmule, I think it will have a deeper story ahead, along with the palace politic issue. So, I wish to see your analysis on this drama in the future..
After 18 minutes of watching episode 1, I went to AsianWiki to find out who is the writer, simply because she/he has a real flair for comedy. I discovered it is Park Kye-ok (he), who has earned some approving comments on his page. I haven’t seen any of his work yet, so “Mr Queen” will be a process of discovery for me. Already I love his characterisation and sense of timing, and the plot has me more than interested.
Yun Seon-sik is the director, and I did the AsianWiki thing with him as well, as soon as I had watched the moment of realisation which comes to the MC, accompanied by a slowly drawn-out diminished chord (who thought of this, I wonder). In the tonal system developed in Western music, a diminished chord has no direction, so it’s a wonderful musical metaphor for the displaced 20th-century chef/Joseon queen’s bewilderment which turns to understanding quite quickly (I’m in a timeslip).
So there you are; eighteen minutes of watching, and I reckon I may be in for a real treat.
I mean 21st-century chef, of course.
I watched the first episode and it’s funny, except for the evil queen and her minion you find in every sageuk, mr.queen is a fun watch.
I’m enjoying how well Shin Hye Sun and Choi Jin Hyuk mesh their acting as the Queen. I hope that the comedy continues: the first 2 episodes were great and surprisingly risqué. I really like Shin Hye Sun’s comic range.
The chef/queen described himself as the ‘mutant, crazy, jerk of an only son’ of earnest educators. Conveniently, one teaches Chinese characters and the other, Korean history. 🤣
@Juriel, yes that chord is like something straight out of a very early melodramatic film!
The queen’s maid went overboard describing the queen’s sadistic personality before her ‘accident,’ and then had to apologise.
The queen needs to learn how to sit like a lady, among other palace etiquette. And not show such detailed knowledge of the king’s porn book, which he claims to read to increase his likelihood of doing his duty to produce an heir. Of course.
I liked the queen’s face when the Queen Dowager is keen to share her technique of how to ‘get blessed with a Prince.’
The queen drunkenly mourning his dragon and dragon balls after leaving the brothel. Pfffft.
Jang Bong-hwan has had a few flashbacks from the real queen’s experience. It’s making me wonder if that aspect will expand. Also, whether Jang Bong-hwan’s body revived and if so, is the real queen trying to survive as him in the 21st C?
Dragon (and balls) as in DragonBall Z? 😂. Sorry couldn’t resist. My first thought is what happened to the original Queen’s spirit? Did it get bumped off somehow? 🤔.
@nrllee, I wa wondering the same. if the queen’s spirit is still around, maybe we’ll get a little bit more Choi Jin-hyuk. Dang. 😉
Some of the tropes remind me of Moon Lovers: the time slip when drowning, the inevitable evil queens and power struggles. But it has been updated and twisted so cleverly.
I can’t wait to see the queen in the kitchen as shown in the preview.
I think the King kinda has feelings for the Queen. When his man told him to put his feelings aside and kill the queen after she went inside their room.
Arghhh excited for the next episodes. I’m so nervous for this drama though because it got so much backlash from the korean viewers.

Yep he loves his concubine. They go way back I think. Also imo the real queen is in love with the king.
I think the king is kind of intrigued by the ‘new’ queen, but not for love and I hope it doesn’t happen. I was hoping that the queen and concubine can co-exist, but that would be too smooth.
It’s ironic that Choi Jin-hyuk died in his last drama then, resurrected, had to struggle to survive as a zombie; and in this he died and struggling to survive in the body of a Joseon queen. The younger dowager queen mentioned a shaman. I wonder if she or he will out him.

@nrllee: could it be the the queen’s spirit is on the chef’s body 😅 but maybe not because the mr. queen could remember/feel the woman’s heart too.
what makes me curious is when the King having a flashback with his friends before they go to Joseon..
Oh and @fern I also cant wait for the scenes when the Queen is ruling the palace’s kitchen.
@moonstar512, I think that the backlash had to do with the author who expressed some anti-Korean views at some point. I saw it on Soompi.
It seems rather unfair that the chef’s spirit lives on while the queen’s doesn’t. We know that Choi Jin-hyuk’s role is considered a cameo, so, while I would like to see him reappear, (why yes I would) I’m not expecting it.
Yes, he and his friends seemed to be living fairly mundane lives in their previous location. I’m curious about whether the chef’s memories of history will come true before his eyes or whether his presence will change history. He seemed to know quite a bit about the king. I don’t know much detail about the later Joseon era; shall have to do some homework. 😄
@moonstar512 as what I gather from my quick scrolling on twitter, kviewers are mad because the original source of the story is a chinese webtoon novel for which the author expressed some anti-Korean sentiments that could or could not be found (im not sure) on the webnovel. The staff issued an apology explaining that they gained the rights of the chinese webdrama(?)adaptation of the novel, Go Princess Go, and not the novel itself so they didn’t know that there is anti-korean content on the original source of the story or the author is anti-Korean.
Also the drama received backlash because it made fun of the historical records , the Annals of Joseon, in which our lead commented that annals are false in the aspect of the King being promiscuous.
I hope the drama continues despite the backlash that they received. I’m nervous though with this amount of backlash.
History/RL historical figure is always a touchy subject. The prod apologize and saying they will remove the offending sequence.
This is airing on Netflix right? Is the offending scene cut and cannot be found there already?

I’m watching it in other sites not netflix. When I watched it the controversy hasn’t happened yet so it was still there.
In the translation I saw the queen said The Annals of Joseon is like a tabloid.
@LeeDale9198 This drama is airing on Viki and VIU. It is not on Netflix. I don’t know if the scene/line has been removed from the video at those sites or not. If it has been removed, The best place to watch for an uncensored version is at the “other sites” like kissasian.sh, dramacool, myasiantv, etc. Those places usually try to upload their videos ASAP, and they don’t change them so they would have the original broadcast for sure.

Wow I’m surprised that the staffs could not have any idea that there is anti korean sentiments in the original source. I thought they will be very careful in bringing up the historical theme.. but I guess as they already put the disclaimer in the beginning of every episode they think they could be safe. I watched this drama on Viu and yes there is still the scene where the lead say something about Annals of Josen, but I didn’t know before that it would make such backlash.
