I like how Suzy got in the car and smiled at Dosan but Dosan was busy looking at his laptop. It looked to me as if he was making sure that everything was ready for the demo, but Suzy was confident that HE had everything under control.
DoSan exuded confidence now, before during SamSan tech presentation or demo day he was jittery what a difference a week/3 years made lol.. Also love the way DalMi and DoSan keep looking and smiling at each other for assurance.
YoungSand and ChulSan also on a different level up the way they chew Morning AI and the twins 👍🏻 *kerasys hair flip* now instead of looking stylish they look childish in comparison.

On DoSan “just in case”
Just in case was uttered 3 times in this episode,
1st was YoungSan quoting what DolSan said to Alex
2nd was DalMi asking jp’s opinion on smart city project
3rd was DoSan telling DalMi the reason he worked on the smart city project in 2STO
The words used here is different, DalMi said just in case “혹시” (hog si) this is the common word, if you use english-korean translator for just in case you will get ‘hogsi’.
Now the word that DoSan used was different, it was “만에 하나” (man-e hana) which means one in ten thousand or very rare.
YoungSan and ChulSan understood that this was DoSan turning his one in ten thousand hope/dream into reality and they looked like a proud parent no wonder SaHa was confused lol.. and like @packmule3 wrote DoSan is the MVP after all 🤩

Yes. I heard Dalmi say “hog si” which I thought was like… perhaps, maybe, if there’s a possibility.
But I like that Dosan said “만에 하나” or as Ella said “one in ten thousand.” Because this is in character. He would express himself mathematically like say the probability and the “odds” of an event happening.
In effect, he was beating the odds. That is, despite his calculations and all logic, he succeeded.

Fave scene stuck in elevator – did you notice that Dosan was addressing Dalmi and HKP butted in the conversation? Dalmi only had one sentence in. The rest became a JP and Dosan exchange.
This ep and 16 is really about girl power. I love a strong woman going after what she wants.
Chulsan is soo cute. His character in CLOY is also cute and funny. I initially thought Saha will be part of the Dalmi-Dosan love triangle or she’d go after Yongsan.
In Ep 3, we see Dosan driving the car and they both saw the fireworks. In Ep 15, now we see Dalmi as the safety driver. But Dosan’s stare is still the same from Ep 3 (when he said Dalmi was pretty) and from Ep 15.
my bad since I normally skip jp scene lol.. turns out DalMi also said the same thing, turns out DalMi and DoSan really are on the same wavelength.
I love DalMi’s face when the elevator open. She really wish she’s anywhere else.

I like the Background music playing during Dosan’s elevator speech while JP was speechless hahaha plus the way Dosan expressed his speech with increasing intensity but at the same time so calm and collected (like literally it was like a whisper to JP when he said how could he forget sailing off without map)
And I loved how Dalmi also had her eyes for Dosan only!!

Really was in awe about people taking the sailing off without a map literally when there was a more deeper meaning to it aside from the business side. It was like the reason why Dosan looked at Dalmi was because he was also telling her that despite Dalmi not loving him back, he didn’t even and will never regret loving her and doing all the things they did 3 years ago.
BTW, here’s what Tarzan was able to do:
Drive at a fast speed
But brake for a pedestrian
Stop for traffic lights
Drive through an unexpected change of lanes (it wasn’t following the white lines but had to go between the orange barrels)
Slow down at the toll plaza (good job, Dosan!) so toll reader could read their “EZ pass”
Turn on lights in low-light zones (it’ll need this for foggy areas too)
Change lanes
Detect slow traffic and avoid it
Weave through traffic (hahaha)
Avoid kittens

DoSan actually never said practise that word ‘연습’ yeon-seup was said by jp, it was his interpretation of what DoSan was saying. He basically said if you do it once, it will be easier the next time, then after jp blabbering about practice DoSan said It’ll be a learning experience.

Like yesterday, on my way home, this small KIA suddenly switched lane and cut in front of me.
Before I could step on my brakes, I felt my vehicle braking for me. The light on my dashboard flashed “brake” and a warning sound came on.
And my car is three years old. 🙂
So Dalmi is right when she talked about the project with Dosan. Tarzan’s features were good but they were already available in German, Japanese and American cars.

@packmule3 I just rechecked the drama. It is called “the falling cohabitation” or “frightening cohabitation”. It will be aired in 2021 in tvN, the leads will be Hye Ri (Doksun R1988) and Jang Kiyong. Injae and Yongsan will be the supporting characters but I don’t know will they be a couple or not..

In Habaek and Weightlifting his kissing scenes were not as instense/hot/romantic.
Can I just say confident Do San is giving me so much life. The air of confidence he exudes is not flashy it’s just perfect. I can’t fully express it into words but i know you guys get what i mean. Everytime i see people say he has no character development I want to shake them so badly and say wake up open your eyes like the change in his demeanor from three years ago is off the charts. Also I would like to say I really liked the part that he said Sorry to Dalmi after the elevator scene, he is always thinking of Dalmi. They were still not together here but he was still willing to help her out on the smart city project/will still support her no matter what her decision is. Do San truly the best man.

Yes, the ragey fandom around JP’s character is mystifying. It’s nice to have found a group that appreciates Dosan. Another interesting contrast between the two is how Dosan’s growth required him to become stronger / tougher, while JP’s required that he soften up some.

When I ask some stans what kind of character development are they expecting or would make them satisfied? Even with the lines because they nitpicked on everything. Dosan breathes and they have something to say. And the attack I get when I say “good boy is not a good boy after all”. OMG! I don’t think I’ll get over this unless KSH releases a statement defending Dosan’s character and him admitting he wasn’t really a good boy. LOL

Watching start up and watching the hjp fans attitudes made me unfollowing some accounts from my soc-med platforms. I just can’t understand their perspective as much as I tried to. I don’t know if it’s doable or not, but I thought KimSeonho the actor who played HJP should have known that his fan attacking his costars in the drama in social media. Idk but I previously wished that he would say some things to his fans like “please respect the author, and other actors too” hahaha.. well I guess he doesn’t care about this, or he can’t do anything about it.. he just enjoying his rising popularity as much as possible..

I definitely like the confident Dosan but he still gets teary-eyed in the right moments. I love the crying SST during the final visit to their office. They’re the best buddies who have been there in the worst and best of times, where you are comfortable and even encouraged to cry (after CODA acceptance video, practice of telling his dad he is not CEO and the last visit). Squad goals!

That scene, let’s just say I’m not as gracious, DoSan let jp slept on his bed. DoSan packed jp food to go. He even replied politely when jp was back to his old-ass-self.

When I watch these behind-the-scenes footages, I understand why the Dosan actor’s costar would fall for him. Why, he’s just like his character!! Dorky but a gentle soul. I like how he takes the backseat and lets Suzy take the lead. He’s reacting TO HER needs.
And yeahhh… I don’t think the JP actor is like JP in real life. I watch him in 2D1N and he’s boringly goody-goody two shoes there. Lately, though, he’s taken on a different persona to “liven” things up.

lol. Dosan DOES get over his hang-over quickly, doesn’t he? I couldn’t believe how quickly he got over his hang-over at Dalmi’s place. I thought that was a writer’s error. But this is the second time.
He drank like crazy but he was up and about helping in the kitchen the following morning.

Yup even Suzy said that Nam Joo Hyuk is just like DoSan on how pure he is. He always come up with lame jokes. And on the other bts during the hut scene, it was outdoor shooting and very cold, every time the director said cut he automatically gave Suzy hotpack they caption him as hotpack fairy lol..

JP owed Dosan an apology. He was the one who planted the idea in Dosan’s head that he and Dalmi were dating. I was expecting him to come clean and apologize to Dosan when they were drinking. Instead, he blamed Dosan for his insecurities. I couldn’t believe that JP got away with his sabotage again.
The BTS were great watch! It showed how much fun they had while shooting. They were always laughing. And NJH is a sweet guy irl.

even drunk, jp tried to goad DoSan by using the word “one sided love” to described DoSan’s love for DalMi, how was he able to still be manipulative under the influence of alcohol puzzle me 🙄
Finishing the last ep. So happy! I really love StartUp! Definitely one of my kdrama higlights for 2020!

@PM3 – I agree 100% on the apology.
My 2 beefs with the writer is Ms Yoon tolerating JP behavior and not correcting him; and the 2nd is no apology from JP on gaslighting Dosan on phantom relationship with Dalmi. 😔
With variety show, the character is decided between the performer and the writer, i think because of ksh sudden popularity they try to milk it by creating a different persona for him maybe something more akin to his drama persona?

jp never apologized to DoSan till the end for all he’s done, i think his last arc of redemption was him telling DalMi that he’s not the Nam Do San in the letter. I wonder if DalMi knew all the horrible things jp did or say to DoSan will she let it go?
@packmule what drama is it? I want to know too.. I love the scene in “Go Back Couple” drama where the Male Lead bought drugs for his girlfriend and he just accompanying her and comforting her while she has menstrual cramps. The male who really care when the female having menstrual cramp is so awww — i think.
About apologizing… I kinda wonder why.. why the writer made JP like didn’t realize his wrongdoings to Dosan, and didn’t apologize too.. is there something that i miss?

I thought the writer skated over JP’s problems in these following scenes:
1. Director Yoon made light JP’s derogatory remarks as “candid feedback”
2. Youngsan apologized to JP for blaming him for his brother’s death — what the heck?
3. The assistant tolerated JP disrobing him in public and demeaning him at work
4. JP never apologized to Dosan for his derogatory remarks.
5. JP never took responsibility for his part in the 2STO fiasco. What did he do after he ran to the 2STO building? He knew it was an acqhiring, and he didn’t warn Dosan afterwards because, as Saha said, he had an invested interest in splitting Dosan and Dalmi apart.
5. JP never apologized to Dosan for dissing the Noongil project. I wanted to hear him apologize for telling Dosan that he was wasting “caviar” on stew. “Eat it, JP!” lol.
6. JP never apologized to Dosan for spreading misinformation about him and Dalmi. What the heck? How unprofessional. If I could only have a scene with him offering the ring/necklace/earrings/jewelry to Dalmi and Dalmi giving it back to him, I’d be content.
Why waste caviar on a stew? Little did jp knew that stew was his beloved Halmeoni.

After I’m done with a kdrama, I start compressing the “memory files” so to speak, or else I’ll run out of space.
I like that JP apologized to Grandma.
But I wanted him to apologize to Dosan, too. We didn’t get any big reaction from JP — and I blame the actor for that. I don’t think he was THAT good enough to express guilt, shock, dismay, etc.
Yeah. sure. he could cry buckets (cry me a river, an Amazon river if needed) but I don’t think he could do more than shed tears on cue.

Never saw this ksh actor before StartUp, I skipped two cops because I don’t think JoJeongSeok-HyeRi pairing would work, 100 Days My Prince never get to start that as well. But I remember reading up on StartUp even before the drama began how ksh and kang hanna will cover the acting part while belittling Suzy and NamJooHyuk.
I might be bias but on scenes like Elevator scene or the drunk scene I think DoSan shines more, credit to Nam Joo Hyuk. Honestly I can feel more emotion from young jp. Grown jp consist of smiling, smirking, sullen, angry.
List of scenes when JP aggressively manhandled DS:
Ep2 – baseball exchange when JP grabbed DS while he was walking to meet DM in person
Ep5 – while getting snacks, JP grabbed DS to ask him about his revelation of not being a hotshot CEO. This is also when JP said hurtful words that DS should compensate Yeongsan and Chulsan for wasting 2 years of their lives.
Ep6 – After Dalmi chose JP as mentor, JP pinching Dosan’s cheek and hitting his hand hard while pretending to be a Sherpa
Ep9 – JP punched and kicked Dosan’s thigh when drunk Dosan was in Halmeoni’s house
Ep12 – acqihing; JP did 2 shoves before fist fight started
*Ep 12 – JP swatted grandma’s hand when she tried to console him after the fistfight with Dosan
Ep13 – JP did a chest shove to Dosan in the elevator. And then gaslighting Dosan on JP’s relationship to DM. Can’t he just explain that Dalmi wanted to be alone and not be disturbed? Geez.
Except for the fist fight, Dosan had been very respectful of JP even with his harsh words and did not retaliate.

@Janey I def agree with all of JPs actions but I guess other fan girls found a way to make it look like Dosan had anger management issues because of that fist fight. Classic example of how people could quickly judge one mistake and define Dosan and forget about the 9/10 Dosan did great throughout the whole drama versus every little thing JP does is correct and good in the eyes of others.
I’m really sad I missed the rewatch! But this is one of my favorite episodes for many reasons, so please allow me to join the fun albeit late!
1. I love the elevator scene, and it perfectly showed the stark contrast between Dosan and JP in love and life. Dosan is a risk-taker, a trailblazer, who’s no longer afraid of losing, while JP plays too much on the safe side and would rather not try at all unless he’s sure of winning. Let’s be honest, he didn’t try at all with Dalmi.
At this point we can already see that Dosan is stronger from 3 years ago (something JP stans refused to acknowledge nor recognize sigh). I think it is safe to say that he has overcome his impostor syndrome. 🙂
2. The drinking scene between Dosan and JP! Our boy is really a romantic, and I don’t think he’s even aware of it. Swoon.
p.s. Dosan asking his mother if they have JP’s fave banchan I am fuming and this is the boy they hate???
3. That kiss scene!!!!!!!!
4. Dosan in black turtleneck. Very hot :(((
I remember the end of episode 15 where they showed JP running after learning about the journalist. A lot of stans were mad because they thought JP would “save” them again and be ungrateful for it.
I am pleased that our Samsan Tech proved that they are capable of standing on their own now. *very pleased*
Anyway, I hope I remember the scenes correctly haha.
I am really sad I missed most of the rewatch lol. I’m not sure if there’ll be more SU posts here, but thank you, @pm3, @Ella our president, and everyone who showered love for SU. Your analyses and commentaries made me love the drama and our boy Dosan even more. 🙂

PS: @Ella I think that Suzy and Nam Joo Hyuk acting in Start Up was marvelous too. Before the drama aired I know that most people belittled them. But I am so proud of them now. I usually stopped my admiration towards an actor to his acting and character only. But when I saw the bts clips or interviews of NJH, i could see that he is polite and considerate too. Maybe because he’s been through a lot. Ahh well, anyway I wish that the production team, Suzy and NJH too get awards in the future. They deserve more appreciations..
