I watched Ep 11 raw and it had it’s lows and highs, heartfelt and hopeful moments, and painful ones.

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

So Mun is a Counter again, Mae Ok recovers which means Su Ho is saved from dissipation and Mo Tak regains his memories. The Yung Council comes to its senses. That’s the good news. I’ll leave the bad news until I read the subs.

  2. Same as Mun, I don’t know what happened in ep 11 that enabled him to connect with Wigen without being a counter. He was able to send a soul to Yung without his dotted fingertips. When he is at the height of his emotions (anger, pain, happiness), his aura seems to attract the spirits like the souls went directly through him. He blames himself and his cries were really heartbreaking to watch. And with that strong aura, it looks to me that he was the one who summoned Wigen to relent to enter his body and be a counter again.
I’m glad the gang is back together but my heart is breaking for Motak. 😢

  3. After what happened to Mae-ok, I’m now curious as to when would it deemed the right time for a counter and his partner spirit to die? Like, is there guidelines of some sort or a quota as to how many evil spirits they need to fight and summon?

I’m not that rejoiced at all when Yung reinstated Mun after seeing the other spirits there. Where are they when our squad needed some reinforcement? There are already two level 3 evil spirits! Also, even after Motak, Mae-ok and Hana were already beaten to pulps, their partner spirits didn’t feel any danger/urgency at all until after Mae-ok is unconscious so Suho went unconscious as well.
Ahh I don’t know about this drama’s logic anymore.

Seriously, this drama has to have one death every episode 😩. Give is a break, goodness.

  4. Same, Lee Dale9198.

And when Wigen welcomed back SoMun to the group and patted his face, I wanted to push her hands away. He saved their sorry asses and he had to be the one to THANK them??!! Ugh!

Sad about the death of Motak’s GF/detective but I thought it was long overdue. She should have been targeted a long time ago bec she was the “squeaky wheel” in the police force ruining the bad guys’ plans.

  5. Hey ladies!

I agree with Janey and LeeDale9198, Mun has the ability to attract the souls that were captured and he was the one who summoned Wi-gen.

As @packmule3 said, I wasnot not pleased about the pat pat he got from Wigen. Also, he was the one who saved the Counters and Yung Territory and not the other way around. Even the Inspector was impressed that’s why she gave him back his Counter rights.

Still, there are 4 Counters for 2 persons who are in Level 3 and one person who is in Level 1.

I was really anxious to see what will happen with Mae Ok being on the hospital. I really like that Ajhumma.
“Mommy’s hands… sing a song made me emotional”

As for the Detective being killed, I do hope we get to see her somehow – maybe as a Spirit?

Mo tak finally remembered her and their happiness was really short lived for both of them.

How awful is to find your loved one murdered? I guess that man with the hoodie, we saw on the scene while Motak was approaching, is the actual killer?

    @Janey @LeeDale9198 @Cleopatra
Adding to your take on what happened to the soul of the woman, to Wigen and So Mun… It was something beyond all their control. Even So Mun who was the source of the ‘power’ did not know what he was ‘doing’. I look forward to seeing him being more able to understand, use and harness his extensive powers.

It seems that Ji Cheong Sin’s random desire to kill has brought about this turn of affairs. (One of those necessary plot points to make SM’s connection to Yung possible.) If Sin had not killed his temporary ‘evil helper’, the soul of the woman who was in him would not have come out and changed the power balance.

For reasons unknown, she seems to have been drawn to So Mun like an iron bolt to a magnet. We see her green orb going away from him but then suddenly it comes back at full speed and goes into him. Her soul ascends straight to Yung as if SM is a direct conduit. He didn’t even have to summon or accompany that soul.

That soul seems to have given So Mun access to Yung: well, at least auditory access. Since So Mun is supposed to be uncanny/weird/out of the ordinary, I’ve accepted that inexplicable things will happen around him.

I looked back at what I wrote for Ep 10 and am amused that I was almost but not completely right in my guess. Yes, Wigen did go back into So Mun, and he did regain his powers and he did free himself, but not because she couldn’t find a host or wanted to give him another chance, but because she’d been sucked back into him by his desperate need to stop his friends from being killed because of him.

From the look on her face when he was screaming and begging her to come into him again, it seems that he inadvertently dragged Wigen over from Yung. It didn’t look like she had made a decision to go to him, but was shocked that she was sucked away. Once she was in her ‘ball of light’ state, however, she re-enabled his powers.

So Mun’s words were: “Wigen please come inside me. They are all dying because of me. Please help me out. What am I supposed to do?” It could be said that it was his love for his friends, that was the force, that enabled him to re-attach Wigen and create the Territory that saved everyone, even the 2 criminals who had been abandoned by Killer Ji.

When the windows exploded with fire, I wondered if that was a sign that his power was shooting out in all directions, because with that kind of uniform explosion where all windows were blown out, I expected the whole place to have been engulfed in flames, but that was not the case. Anyway, I’d like to imagine that what the bad guys took to be a sign of the Counters’ destruction, was actually the opposite. It was So Mun freed of his bonds, and with the full force of energy exploding out of him, that caused the blast. A sign that he was back in full strength and able to save everyone.

I liked how the Territory he created was so big, bright and beautiful. Such a cheerful and life-giving sign, from a most caring and passionate heart.

  7. Yes, thanks for this explanation about the explosion, @ GB.

I thought it was the gas explosion but you’re right; it was his supercharged energy that detonated. His power burst the steel door open too.

And yes, Wigen was sucked back into his body because HE summoned HER. She was resisting him but she had no choice.

So what other powers does he have?

He creates territories so their powers are magnified.
He can also switch dimensions like Cheong Sin. Hey!! Does he realize this significance of his time/space/dimension travel?
He can summon the Eaten Souls’ green orbs from unconscious demons, and send them directly to Yung. Lol. Can’t he knock out Cheong Sin long enough to summon his parents’ astral green balls?
    He can summon Wigen.
He can explode things. That will come in handy because Cheong Sin has psychokinesis (?).

    What else can he do?

  8. Hey Ladies,

I have an hypothesis to make. Yesterday I finished watching W: Two worlds apart. So, I realized that So Mun is himself an artist who draws comic books.

The first time we saw his skill was in Episode 1 where he was at his parents’ car and he was drawing his grandparents and himself going an excursion.

His parents faces remained blank because of the murder. At this day his parents have not ascended. Cheong Sin has them hostages since he ate his souls. Hence they have no face, as So Mun drew them.

The second time we got to see So Mun creating was with his friends discussing how to proceed with their hero. They made him become stronger every time he beats a bad guy.

And what counter is So Mun?

In Motak worlds: “He is the best warrior / fighter their team had” as he said in front of Wi-gen and So-ra.

I think that as a kid he surpassed what happened with his folks

    BUT,

since the show is talking about an amazing rumour (so mun) I got to believe that he is the main hero – and not as we thought all the gang of the Counters – plus the exact opposite to Cheong Sin.
The Yin to the other’s Yan.

So Mun as an artist is a Shin = God.

While Cheong Sin is an evil spirit aka the fallen.

Shin and Sin kinda sound the same. Since I don’t know the Korean etymology of Cheong Sin’s name I cannot say more.

This is my theory though. The only one who can take down Cheong Sin is So Mun with all the abilities we have seen so far.

I bet that So Mun as a God like creature can win the absolute Evil, since his main power is the power of Love, Empathy and Goodness that manifests with the abilities:

A To attract the Yung Territory at will. He hasn’t mastered how to summon it yet.

    B. To attract the trapped green Souls, not as fuel but to send them asap in Yung Territory to find peace.

    C.To summon (not only) Wi-gen ( but maybe more? ) I have a feeling…

    D. To change dimensions as @packmule3 mentioned before.

    To Be Continued…

  9. @Cleopatra, I so love your theories about So Mun and am thankful that you mentioned the fact that he is an artist.Perhaps his artistry explains how utterly beautiful and vibrant his territory markers look. And because art is thought of as a creative field, I wonder if Mun will learn how to tap into all of his powers in a most creative, unusual way to defeat the evil, and strong spirits. Most of all, I hope that Mun gets reunited with his parents in a meaningful way.,I don’t want a drive by but a full emotionally satisfying way that will inspire Mun to continue his good work (and by extension, the work in his DNA that was the legacy of his parents). I am enjoying this drama much more than I thought I would. Part of my enjoyment isvthatbit’s a comingnof agevstory. But most of it derives from the relationships among the team and their support of one another. I also like seeing people in heroic roles that are not all in their twenties and that women with gray hair are beautiful inside and out….

@Old America Lady and @Cleopatra Great thoughts!
And great that you’ve gotten your list out… I was wracking my memories for more things that So Mun can do.

Yes about him being one who surpassed others, and possibly even his own parents. Definitely now that he’s old enough and a Counter, he will surpass his parents in crime fighting.

I like your idea about how he is the artist and therefore like the ‘god’/shin. Yes, he has yet to draw in his parents’ faces. I’d like that to be the bookend ending, that ties in with his meeting his parents again.

And yes, like Old American Lady, I want that meeting to be meaningful and cathartic. I like what So Mun told the Wigen when he got reinstated. He said that he was no longer being a Counter just to get to see his parents again. His purpose and mission had widened and deepened, and he was going to discover it slowly.

It’s true that the title of the show is in the Singular ie ‘The Uncanny Counter’, therefore you’re right, the main hero is 1 person, So Mun.

This is my theory though. The only one who can take down Cheong Sin is So Mun with all the abilities we have seen so far.

I bet that So Mun as a God like creature can win the absolute Evil, since his main power is the power of Love, Empathy and Goodness …

    – This reminds me of Harry Potter, which is valid. What I felt is that without So Mun, the team will not be able to defeat Killer Sin. However, it will be Team So Mun ie not he alone, but with everyone beside and supporting him, that will take down the evil.

To add to the list of his abilities, he also has the ability like the other Counters… to put people to sleep and to make them forget specific memories.

At times, he is like Ha Na and can sense where the evil is and that a demon is about.

I’m hoping that he also develops some ability to heal, so that he’ll be the all rounded Counter and can take care of Mae Ok when she’s wounded.

@Cleopatra … More about So Mun’s drawing … I miss seeing his lovely sketches and the manhwa competition has not been mentioned for a very long time. We are also missing his trusty school friends and his grandparents.

In effect, (as you said) he and his friends had begun a manhwa about a super hero that grows in strength each time he defeats a baddie. We see that Killer Sin is the subversion of this since he grows stronger each time he eats another soul. However So Mun is not just the artist but the real Creator of the super hero, since he takes on the super hero role as a Counter. So I like your idea of SM being like a god of sorts (Creator God motif). However unlike an artist who can add on more attributes to his character, or a god who can act omnipotently, SM has to discover what else he can do with his power to love.

I recall that he was able to inadvertently ‘create’ or ‘summon’ the Territory when he was calm and at peace, just as well as when he was in high stress and angry, vengeful or desperate. He needs to know how to use the good emotions in bringing on the Territory. It is in love and unity that true power lies.

  12. @OldAmericanLady @GB Kalimera from my part of the world!

I will agree with you when you say that So Mun has to meet with his parents in an meaningful way. It will make sense to “find” them again that will bring catharsis for all of them.

Also, @OldAmericanLady I really enjoy that we have this kick ass ahjumma who has grey hair and at age 52, according to the series, she is an extremely gifted woman and a good and beautiful person inside out. You are right, not everyone is at their 20s. We need woman power in all the ages. 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s…!

@GB Yes, you are right about the Creator part. That’s why I wrote the world “Shin” to colour it better.

From what @packmule3 wrote in the previous thread we can say that So Mun in his “Shin” / Creator mode but doesn’t know it all, regarding the omniscience. Also because of his age he doesn’t have omnipotence.

On the other hand, he has the powers of love and mercy. He saved his friends from the bullies – yes, he was mad at the time. But after what happened in the last episodes where he lost his Counter rights, he turn his unstable feelings aka Wigen’s fear that So Mun has an urge to kill to mercy.

I remember @GB, you wrote something about it, in the previously thread about the Mayor’s son and why de didn’t strike back. “He wouldn’t be any different from these jerks.”

I think that as long the series are progressing So Mun will find more about his powers. I also miss his friends and grandparents @GB!

Lastly, another power that So Mun has is (Adding what you pointed @GB as well):

    E. He can put people to sleep and erases his memories, like all the Counters can do.

    F. He can sense where evil is, like Hana.

    G. He can extract the evil spirit and take it to Yung, like Hana.

So far, he is stronger than Motak and has the same abilities as Hana.
I strongly believe @GB that he will start having healing abilities as the ajhumma!

  13. Kalimera from my part of the world.

I finished watching Episode 12 today. I am glad Yung Territory gave them permission to proceed with their plan after the Detective’s death.

So, in the Episode 13’s preview it seems that we will have the final confrontation between So Mun and Cheong Sin?

As Wi-Gen informed them CS has become one with the Evil Spirit, so we are talking about a Level 4?

I am anxious to see what will happen…

  14. Finally caught up on these episodes! Conked out on Sunday evening when I planned to watch them 😪

Loving this discussion about So Mun being an artist. I left a comment in the earlier episodes about his drawing; that I hope after meeting his parents he draws something with their faces filled in so it comes full circle. Great to see others thinking something along the same line!

Sad for Mo Tak, but I knew there was no way the show would save 2 people in a row. Looking forward to the next episode, looks like a show down between So Mun and Cheong Sin. I most say I’m loving the performance from both guys, I will definitely be on the lookout for Cheong Sin in his other projects. Just like pm3 I’m enjoying this drama way more than I anticipated.

  15. Hey @Esst3!

I am glad that out thoughts are on the same direction!

As for Lee Hong Nae aka Cheong Sin. I have also spotted him on “The King Eternal Monarch”!

He played Seok Ho-Pil! He was the second of command at the Royal Guards under Jon Young’s leadership.

After Eun Sup went to KoC, Lee Gon ordered him to talk straight to Pyeha!

I think 2020 was his breakthrough year!

  16. @Cleopatra – thanks for the info! That’s why Cheong Shin looked familiar, he was in TKEM as part of the security (from the Northern part of Korea) in KoC.

  17. @Janey,

You are welcome! Although I am a k-drama newbie, I have seen some series now and I recognise where I have seen an actor / actress. So, I am checking the ones I find interesting.

I really enjoyed him as Seok Ho-Pil in TKEM and as Cheong Sin in the Uncanny Counter is a revelation I might say.

I don’t like his character obviously, as the most of us don’t, still I have to admit that I don’t think someone else would impersonate Cheong Sin any better than Lee Hong Nae.

P.S. Here is one of the funny scenes, he had with Woo Do Hwan!
