  1. Thanks @packmule3.

Props to the little girl in the Village. She’s really delightful. Comes across as totally natural and believable. It was a huge ask but she just shone in her role. Actually so far I like everyone in their roles. I haven’t cringed one bit. I am rapidly falling in love with JiSoo’s OnDal. He really is exactly what PyeongGang/GaJin needs. He says the right things, does the right things. Gives her space. But is around when she needs him.

I am really surprised with how fast this drama is playing out. They didn’t draw out the amnesia. The main players know exactly who everyone is now. No secrets. And we’re only up to Ep4. The 2FL MoYong intrigues me. She’s got a cruel streak (as evidenced by her nicking OD’s throat so he drinks his own blood to stay alive 😬). And she’s power hungry and conniving. But she’s adopted. What’s her story?

The rapid pace of this is making me wonder how they will draw out the whole story and return to the beginning again (full circle). Does OD die? He does in the folk tale.

  2. Yes, I am intrigued by mo yong as well, nrllee. Something about her reminded me of Lee Honey and the FL in Shine or Go Crazy.

  3. I am more invested in On Dal so far.
Herbalist lady gives me bad vibes.

  4. @pm3, you were right about this show being like a bowl of tangled noodles. I am slurping it happily so far, despite the messy editing.

  5. 😂 I wanted to compare it to a music by Stravinsky. The Rite of Spring. By I guess a bowl of tangled black noodles should do.

Hmmm. Do you want to compare all these dramas to musical compositions? Go ahead. 🙂

L.U.C.A sounds like Dvorak Symphony No 9 in E minor. It isn’t Bach.

  6. I love the New World Symphony! Not super subtle, but very moving. Good analogy to LUCA.

  7. River Where The Moon Rises is like an early Mahler Symphony, I’d say No. 1 or No. 4. The drama, like these symphonies, is an interesting mixture of grand scale, heartfelt emotion, and quirky humor, with a generous helping of Magic Forest. These elements do not always mix smoothly, so some listeners and viewers may get slightly annoyed. I have no idea how the drama will unfold and end, but both Mahler symphonies end on optimistic note, although one can argue that the finale of the 4th symphony depicts a dream (paradise) rather than reality.

  8. Am catching up here-glad I only had four episodes. Have been doing my own Shin Hye-sun festival. Just finished Five Enough. And started Angel”s Last Mission. Mr. Queen sparked my curiosity about her. I live her work and can see how she’s grown as an actor. Love her versatility.

And speaking if versatility, out FL in Mirror Where The Moon Rises has to gain a lot of respect for taking chances playing different roles and doing the sheer physical work of an action star. Given her age (even though she,’s been acting since childhood) she is resisting the urge to be type casted. She’s looking like she’s modelling Kim Go Eun’s career. Bravo to her for taking chances, especially knowing how critical the netuzens can be.

  9. @OAL, try 30 but 17 (Still 17) if you are looking for more Shin Hye Sun goodness.
I like the main actress in River too.

  10. @Sniw Flower 🌺, I watched it before Five Enough and absolutely loved it. Shin Hye-sun was so believable as someone who was mentally seventeen. Five Enough was just too long and Too repetitive. But, I wanted to see her pairing with Sung Hoon whovgets horribly type cast as a hunky guy. There’s more to him and I also suspect that they paired them because she is tall (5’8″). I also lived the actor in 17 who played Jennifer. 17 had a lot of heart. It’s such a great recommendation! Thank you.

  11. After watching these two episodes.
On the one hand, the pace is quite slow, but on the other hand, some of the plot moves fast (end of amnesia).

There is always a problem of imbalance in the background music. Some induce a soporific impression, and silence would have been better. On the whole, it’s a bit too loaded with background music, and it doesn’t breathe enough.
Some of this music is very good, though.
Position yourself episode 4, at 01:01:00. Wonderful composition, as much for the pleasure of listening as for the moving effect it gives to the scene.

The drama flows pleasantly, and is successful on the moving scenes. The story is in a phase where everything is quite peaceful. A convincing love triangle is being established.

  12. I’m also glad the amnesia part of the story is resolved. All memories from FL and ML side are now cleared up as well.

It is now on the stage of the 2 personalities. Will FL be Gajin or Pyonggang? FL wanted to come clean with the villagers but OnDal interrupted to say assassin when she was about to say princess. OnDal wanted her to remain as Gajin. The next episodes she will try the village life.

On the other hand, the SML wanted her to come back as a princess. He even started talking to the king on this idea and plan for her return.

Interesting SFL, also in some position of power and influence and is astute. She is aware of what’s happening and will wait on how things will play out to see if she can use it to her (and adoptive father’s) advantage. From a romantic angle, she seems interested in both ML and SML but no clear preference. Maybe no romance even but more playing politics and power with the court and direct foil to FL.

  13. @Janey : both can work anyway !
SFL want ML (No way, because it’s FL+ML !)
SFL want SML (No way, because SML want FL).

Choose what you think will be the most exciting.
I choose SFL want SML !
She just has to kill FL, and half of the job is done. 😉
Else, let’s go for classics, love square…

I sent you something on email that might help make sense the goguryeo’s version of game of thrones lol
