  10. Oh! You’re here, Ella. Thank goodness. 🥰

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

You’re up extremely early @pkml3. Working on another review?

  12. I am here too!

    Kalimera @Ella, @Packmule3 and Kalispera @GB…!

  13. Yes. 😂 The best time to work on a review is in the morning.

Don’t be surprised if I’m in and out of the group rewatch.

  14. Good morning, Cleopatra. You’re our sunshine in this blog. Just like our agdr03. 🌞

  15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hey there @Cleo! @Ella! @pkml3 So excited to see all of you already!!

I’m still working on something else but I’ve got my water and a cup of tea (to keep my brains from slipping into slumber!) and my tissues and comfy chair.
    ೭੧(❛▿❛✿)੭೨

  16. Oh! Thank you @packmule3 *blushes* 🌹🍭🧁🍪

  17. Hey @GB,

It is a sunny day over here, so I went for a walk and it made my afternoon. I missed my gym days. 😕

I will also have my tea and my bottle of water with me too…

  18. Hi packmule3

Yes I’m here, this week has been a lot. Missed you at last week watch party.

  19. You’re the President, Ella. 🙂 I’m confident that I leave the thread in good hands.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

17 minutes more by my clock and counting!!

    We are missing @WEnchanteur!!

  21. Janey should be waking up soon. ⏰⏰⏰

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes… however @Janey did at least appear once above.

I realised that unlike the earlier episodes, Ep 9 does not end with an epilogue but with a preview. Must check on Ep 10 onwards then.

  23. Hi everyone,

    Here we go..

  24. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

1 minute to go!! Are we all here?

  25. here for now. 🙂

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Yay! Let’s start!!

  27. I am here too!

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Do San seems stuck on the ‘wind’ concept. He thinks wrongly that it brings a storm instead of a blessing.

  29. Starting!!

  30. oh hi there, Gloglo. Welcome to the blog.

  31. I haven’t noticed before the “Follow your Dream” graphic in the beginning…

Here is DalMi figuring out that something is wrong with those letters.

At the same time, DoSan is not okay at all…

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

They must have had knitting classes for these actors. All the boys knit and so does the child actor who plays DS.

I shake my head at his dad… so much reflected glory that he wants to bask in. So burdensome for his son.

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @Gloglo!

  34. Hi! I’m late, was reading sisyphus new article.
    Episode lauched

    Dosan flashback

  35. Yes, he’s timid at first. Because of that cheating incident, he thought the wind was a metaphor for bad things.

I like that in the end, he came to love sailing in the wind. He didn’t fear what the wind will bring to him. That’s his narrative arc.

  36. Hi @GloGlo and @WEnchanteur…!

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Good to see you @WEnchanteur!

    He’s too harsh on himself.

    Dad is also too much.

  38. once bitten, twice shy, his past experience made him think that a big storm is coming.

  39. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3 That’s true. By the end with DM he could sail without a map.

  40. His Dad is stressing Dosan out.

  41. Hi everyone!

That boy who plays DS in on everything.

  42. I’m here! Good AM from this side of the world!!! Start up weekend is here!

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Ella However how did DS link up the scrunchie with JP to a wind?

  44. Also, I thought the hair tie was very appropriate symbol, too, for Dosan to hold on to while reflecting on the topic of the wind.

The scrunchie holds the hair back from being messed up by the wind.

  45. @Packmule3 I agree with @GB.

He was a prisoner of his past, until DalMi came along…

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    This episode is on RISK.

I was noting the times we see risks taken and not taken.
Here DM does not want to take the risk of affecting her relationship with DS by asking him what she really wants to know, about the letters.

  47. What a nice way to “start up” your weekend, right, Janey?

I got jealous when Diane said she was going to the beach so we’re also heading to the beach in a little while. 🙂 It’s a cold beach weather though. 39 degrees. hahaha.

  48. i think one of dosan is a very empathetic person, that’s why his guilt is amplified when he thinks he did someone wrong.

  49. Hey @Janey!

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Interesting @pkml3… I was just asking what the scrunchie had to do with the wind.

Ah here we see her sisterly instinct take over. In Jae does not seem to deserve such sisterly care.

  51. Rotten eggs sequence. 🙂
    Classic among classics

  52. @Ella I agree with you. 🙂

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur, In Jae deserves eggs which are not quite so fresh LOL

  54. She don’t want to take the hand of her sister. 🙁

  55. SU weekend Kickstarter is always good.

LOL! So true! We will vicariously “beach” with @Diane in this episode. How timely is that?

  56. DalMi-ya ?

DoSan always says Dalmi’s name with such a sweet way…

  57. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur your proud girl is such a snob.

Chul San is trying soooo hard with her. LOL.

  58. BCG like jerks !
She is in the wrong drama, should be heroin of boys over flowers, lol.
Then we will see if she like that so much.
    🙂

  59. even when injae is the one got hit by rotten egg, for dosan it’s dalmi-ya are you okay? LOL

  60. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Gd Morning @Janey… good that you’re here to ‘beach’ with us. View as good as Santorini?? LOL.

  61. Chul San is so sweet, but SaHa is not impressed at all!

Oh Greece reference with Santorini island!

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Ella… that’s a true boyfriend at work.

  63. JP is fooled by “the guy on the rolling stuff”.
He have many reason to think it’s not DM teams now.

  64. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo by chance in other areas (not dramas) I’ve been catching a Greek word here or there.

The heart of In Jae is demonstrated in the words she uses… no compassion.

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Risk (Can be good or bad depending on risk factors that come with an investment)
Dir Yoon tells In Jae that risk means there can be ‘loss’.

DS took the risk of not telling his parents that he’d given up the CEO position to DM.

JP remembers how at the Networking party DS had gone forward and met DM, while he hung back. He didn’t take the first chance to meet her when he’d been there early and watching her. It was too risky. By the time he decided to move, DS came along.

DM does not want to take the risk of asking questions that will lead to her losing DS whom she likes so much.

They took the risk of not telling DM and faced losses.

  66. @GB,
In Jae has a stone heart since so long time. 😉

  67. @GB,

There are many words that are derived from greek.
In other shows we have seen quotes from Kazantzakis, who is a famous greek writer.

  68. Lot of fun here, JP advices.
Start with : You are amateurish. 🙂

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur… took another 4 episodes to soften that stone heart.

DM’s distracted by JP’s handwriting. Putting 2 and 2 together but not wanting to believe they are lying to her.

  70. The Twosome Place.

After you mentioned that the actor playing Nam Dosan is the face of this coffee shop, I’m more conscious of the coffee shop. lol. I like that in Seoul, a girl can just say whatever, and the guy immediately picks up on the hint and buys it for her. I hope my sons and nephews are as mindful and attuned to their sweethearts as Dosan. (Ha!)

  71. @GB,

Dalmi is not that stupid. The thing is that Episode 9 will bring everything to the light, which is much needed to bring the story forward…

  72. “way to discouraged the developers” this is telling, dalmi’s concerned for dosan’s feeling with the bad reviews.

  73. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The Reporter who could make or break the company depending on what he writes. They have to be super careful around him.

Hah Won can’t remember his soft sell of himself.

  74. We get to understand how the impostor Syndrome got started with Dosan. Even I get this feeling from time to time but imagine him starting that from childhood? It’s deep seated. And then here he is again, an impostor to Dalmi. Hence the tears and crying over scrunchie. And the risk or loss as the lie unravels…

  75. True. She was in denial because she didn’t want to think badly/wrongly of Dosan. She was protecting her image of Dosan as honest.

  76. @Packmule3,

    You are totally right…

  77. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The risk of not telling his parents has fallen through for Do San, but it was necessary that he face them with the truth. I like how his mum took it.

  78. Please explain more of this imposter syndrome, Janey. Sounds interesting. 🙂

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3 Yes, the great hurt she felt was this kind of betrayal and how she’d been made to be a fool for over 15 years. I’d be so mad too!!!

Loved this crying scene of DS’s well done NJH!!

  80. @GB,
Dosan actor is good, more than suzy I think, more convincing crying scenes.
Here we get both of them crying.
But Dal Mi is a bit more angry…

  81. @packmule3 and @GB,

Still Halmeoni who started all this, wasn’t told anything.
He left JP and DoSan to deal with it.

And DoSan is amazing in this crying scene…

  82. Yes, that scene was cute, Ella. Who cares about Injae getting egged? It’s “Dalmi-ya, are you okay?” Also when in an earlier episode, when they heard another team breaking up over the shares, he rushed out and asked, “Dalmi, are you okay?” Injae was right there, too, but it as if she didn’t exist in Dosan’s mind. lol.

  83. @GB yes, I love DoSan’s mom. She is disappointed from time to time but she doesn’t lose her temper with him like his father does.

  84. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

What DS says to imaginary DM here is different from what JP will tell real DM at the very end of this episode.

DS says he wanted to see her smile and didn’t want to see her cry (like Grandma!!!)

JP says DS did it for money (to save SST) but was genuinely in love with her later. At least JP tells the truth.

However DM will only remember that DS lied first to save the company.

  85. Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their skills, talents or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud”.[1] Despite external evidence of their competence, those experiencing this phenomenon remain convinced that they are frauds, and do not deserve all they have achieved. Individuals with impostorism incorrectly attribute their success to luck, or interpret it as a result of deceiving others into thinking they are more intelligent than they perceive themselves to be.[2] While early research focused on the prevalence among high-achieving women, impostor syndrome has been recognized to affect both men and women equally.[1][3]

  86. in the behind the scene after this crying scene it took him sometimes to gathered himself, he buried his face in his arms so suzy was pacifying him saying he did a good job

  87. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Janey for that info on Impostor Syndrome. Sounds like it describes DS accurately.

  88. LikeKdrama,

I think Dosan got his mild temper from his mom. Thank goodness!

  89. @Janey

    Thank you for the info!

    @Ella,

    It was a difficult scene.

  90. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @LikesKDramas
Yes, DS’s mum is reasonable and knows how to get her son to talk instead of trying to just shake it out of him like his dad.

  91. Only food we know kdrama characters always finish is…
    Soju cans.
Always a lot of empty Soju can.
I buy some, and it’s 16° alcool. and 36 cl.
4 soju can is more alcool than a whole whysky bottle, and one character can easely drink that in many dramas.
Of course 2 soju can are more than a red wine bottle too.

  92. That’s from the web. 😀

Dalmi will also feel like this (fraud) after being lied at, prior demo day.

  93. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Loved the expression of the character on the pink t-shirt and how JP mimicked it exactly LOL. Also we see that expresison again when DS joins him for dinner.

  94. The drawing on the pink shirt : it’s fully JP personnality. LOL

  95. “oh, what a useless coincidence.” yong-san is right on the money on that lol..

  96. The matching T-Shirts 🙂

  97. Aaaah… Thanks, Janey.

Yes. This fits Dosan to a T. He believes he’s a poseur and downplays his achievements.

  98. Lol, military drums while JP say he want to sleep here too.

  99. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Loved how all their eyes almost popped out and Grandma sucked in the noodles at the invitation to spend the night. And the shock all around when JP also wanted to spend the night. LOL Laughed so loud at this scene. Especially at Grandma chewing determinedly.

  100. Grandma saying Dosan is courteous even when barfing! Hahaha! Grandma favors Dosan.

  101. halmeoni was already besotted with Dosan at that time, she kept on praising dosan and jp was jealous, he pettily kicked unconscious dosan when halmeoni left the room.

  102. JP’s jealoucy in Orange ALERT mode!

  103. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The one-down-manship LOL instead of trying to be one up each other, DS and JP compete on what they don’t have compared to the other. So funny, so petty.

DS :”What do I have that you don’t?”
    JP : “You’re 4cm taller than me.”
DS : “I have text neck.”
JP : “You’re younger than me.”
DS : “You own a river-view apartment and that crazy expensive watch.”
JP : “What am I doing right now? Fine! Good for you that you have nothing.”
    JP applauds mockingly.
DS : “That’s right. I have nothing. That one thing is all I’ve got. I have only one thing and that’s everything to me. You’re taking it away from me?”
JP : “Then let’s change. Take my river-view apartment and that expensive watch in exchange for that one thing.” (If they are speaking of DM, she cannot be bargained for. And she has her own agency, therefore she will choose where she will go.)
    DS : “No thank you.”

  104. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Enchanteur
I really like the sound effects and choice of music of this show.

  105. I didnt remember this so silly scene, when JP sleep on DS chest. AH AH

  106. @GB,

This conversation is hilarious. I mean “I have text neck?” LMAO….

    Boys will always be boys…

  107. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Here’s how DS is so attentive… even to the comments DM makes online… so the next morning he’s taken action to give Grandma a chance to see beautiful scenery. Such a keeper, this guy!!!

  108. @GB,
There is many music I wouldnt listen on mp3, but it fits very well situations. Effectives BGM.

  109. BTW, should we give Dosan’s cousin a pat on the back or a kick in the ass?

He and his big mouth. He was the one who spilled the beans that Dosan wasn’t CEO (deserves a kick).
He and his big mouth. He called up Dosan to tell him that the threat level was raised to red. (pat on the back)

But yeah, it is Dosan’s fault for not having the guts to tell his parents the truth.

  110. Who can resist that chest? Even JP succumbs. LOL. Dalmi, too when she embraces him on the beach later.

  111. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo actually I don’t know what ‘text neck’ is LOL Just that he’s bent over the phone too much and is hunched?

Heh! JP is such an obstructionist. Won’t even let DS pass to get to the driver’s seat.

I like the sound effects of DS gesticulating to get JP out of the way. He wants to go on the date too!!!

  112. JP was happy than DS is gone, and 5 secondes later…
It’s because he’s dating DM. AH AH AH!

  113. Dosan is attentive to DalMi’s needs.
He just listens to what she says and acts upon them…

  114. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3 I believe it was the TV presenter who mentioned “CEO Seo Dal Mi” and the parents heard it, so cousin just forgot and said yes… didn’t DS tell you and then realised the gaffe.

  115. @GB,
Totally childish, because it will never have any effect.

  116. @GB,

He has a problem with his neck, because the position of his body is not good. He is sitting too many hours in front of a pc. I think that the phrase stiff neck would be better…

  117. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

DS was imitating Chul San in trying to picture the scenery through his fingers LOL.

This is not what he had in mind for Grandma when he brought her to the beach LOL. Grandma’s idea of fun is different from the young people’s.

  118. Blind woman + beach = reference to starway to heavens ?

  119. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Ah I see @Cleo… then the Desker table that can be raised so one can stand and work is great! Text neck goes with the PPL.

DM is so lucky, she does not have to lift a finger and all the work is done for her!!!

  120. Dosan always did what he could without hesitating. He’s a poster boy for just do it LOL

  121. @GB,

The funny thing about this one-up/one-down-manship is JP’s pointing out Dosan’s strengths but Dosan keeps downplaying his own strengths.

But you know, I feel that Dosan is so like the many people I met in Asia. When I compliment them for a successful/beautiful/great whatever, they don’t want to take credit and minimize the attention showered on them. Humility.

  122. IA is so sophisticate at recognizing people in love that it should be used in Love Alarm. Maybe Start-up is the prequel ? 🙂

  123. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

DM tells Grandma that the DS of the past and the one now seems like different people.

DM does not want to take the risk of asking questions that will lead to her losing DS whom she likes so much. Grandma is feeling the lie coming back to bite her now. Pity it spoilt a little, this nice picnic.

  124. What a lovely scene, Young Sil is describing to Halmeoni that DoSan and Dalmi are in an embrace…

@GB, well yes. She is lucky, because DoSan is a good guy…

  125. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Ella I love how DS puts into action immediately. Like when he told DM that if reviews were bad, just tell him and he’d deal with them.

  126. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My culture is the same @pkml3… we will be self-deprecating. More polite. However as we are more westernised, sometimes we do ‘praise ourselves’ or accept praise with thanks. ₍ఠ ͜ఠ₎

  127. Hidden meaning in “the road stop here, we should go back” ?

  128. The Cinematographic of these scenes is splendid…

  129. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur Yes, that is something they can develop with such smart AI. Love Alarm wasn’t so sophisticated I think.

LOL the analogy of stars and moon. Can be twisted to be appropriate no matter how scientific DS makes it.

  130. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @WEnchanteur.
Yes and more meaning in being SORRY for the WRONG TURN. He thinks he made a wrong turn in life especially by lying to her. He’s right!

  131. Beach sunsets are the best. Even in cold weather.

@cleo I agree, the scenes were well composed and beautifully lighted.

  132. Love alarm AI is just impossible : it read directly the hearts with 0% errors. But we don’t care, it’s the kind of irrationnal concept that can make a good drama. 🙂

  133. @packmule3

in my personal experience, as an asian it’s always drilled down on me by my mom “don’t be haughty and think too highly of yourself. be humble” so it’s actually a bit uncomfortable when people showers you with compliments hahaa..

  134. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like how show subtly brings out how difficult it is for the generation who’s a bit older, to live with the computer age and mobile apps… everything is online. So tough for them.

Mum and Grandma are more alike in that way.

  135. @Janey,

I love when they capture the beauty of Nature. I love impressionism for that reason alone…

  136. Interestingly enough DS is confident about his coding ability and numbers. His lack of confidence is really connected to people and people’s expectations of him.

  137. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Seems like all DS’s dad’s pride is placed on that one competition. It’s everything and without it DS is nothing… at least that’s how DS feels because of his dad’s attitude. Dad had to make a 180 turn about to help his son realise he’s more than that Olympiad.

  138. If someone compliment me, I just answer : Yes, I know Im the best, but for me, it’s not so much. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  139. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

DS still thinks of his dad’s feeling first. Mum is wise… realising that DS has been bottling up the humiliation and frustration for years.

She is also right to point out what he should have done… at least he should have told her and let her have the chance to mediate between him and dad.

  140. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur… you mean you agree that you’re the best at something or the best @WEnchanteur there is? LOL

  141. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Too late again JP… what were you waiting for? You could have been the one to approach DM first and told her the truth from the beginning.

  142. What happens to JP ?
It’s only now he know he have real feeling ?
    Im lost.

  143. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL Mum is so unconvincing in that get up and with that luggage.

  144. I really like this conversation between DoSan and his mom.
Although I feel that his mother should understand that her child is burdened with something.

  145. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Mum wouldn’t take the risk to work with her mum-in-law.

Just as Grandma thinks of how DS and DM like each other so much, though based on a lie, JP comes to burst her bubble.

As usual he won’t owe Grandma a single thing, not even a t-shirt.

  146. We didn’t mention it, but DalMi took by mistake her grandmother’s smartphone and we all know that this will head to…

  147. Back to back to back crying for Dosan (NJH)… scrunchie, while drunk, with parents finally admitting the cheating and CEO. And then with DM later when another lie is unveiled.

I think this is why a lot of people think of him as cry boy or sad boy and got irritated. Not a trait for a dominant male lead A lot of his crying though is by himself. I like that SST boys also encouraged him to cry.

  148. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur JP was a fool who was in denial from the beginning. It took this long for him to admit that he has feelings for DM. It was only when DS had taken action that JP felt that he was losing out.

So because he didn’t take the risk to approach DM first, he’s losing out.
RISK is a good title for this Episode

    AND the Storm begins!!

  149. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Theatrical thunder and rain!! The accumulation of lies break over the protagonists like a veritable rain storm. Rain of regrets of risks take to hide the truth that would fall through.

  150. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Janey, I like that DS crying scenes are right for the action going on. He cries just appropriately on cue.

  151. Also, we forgot to mention that the t-shirt that JP was wearing is a foreshadowing about the ending.

I mean JP will invest in that start up because of Halmeoni.

I don’t remember how the adult is called in the anime.

  152. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Poor Chul San.. Sa Ha won’t even speak nicely and tell that she’s got an umbrella. So arrogant!!

JP speaking rudely to Grandma – Here speaks a child who has never been able to be grateful without resenting it. JP has never grown past the child of the orphanage. He’s stuck to ‘I don’t want to owe you anything so you keep to yourself and expect nothing from me’. He knows how to invest to make money but he does not know how to invest in people to make a family

  153. I like the closeness and relationship of DM and grandma. She tells her everything!
But sad she does not have girlfriends of her age who she can confide to.

  154. GB,
It’s worse than that. It’s a way to say : be the best on that is so little, when I can be the best at something so much difficult.
But I say that just to friend because it’s a way to joke about humility and turn it into derision and laugh a lot.
We can say also silly things like “I ve gone too far this time, I can’t even believe Im so good, it should be forbidden”.
    🙂 🙂 🙂
We have a sens of offbeat humour and don’t take it seriously.

  155. Dear JP,

    you are too late.

  156. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, I didn’t get the reference to the t-shirt. You mean the character on the t-shirt has significance?

  157. JP will never invest in anything without knowing he will succeed, that’s what he said in the first or second episode. That’s why he never truly pursues Dalmi: He’s too scared of failure.

  158. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Grandma gives JP an umbrella. She still offers him shelter.
    G : “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.”

He’s left with the umbrella and sits looking at it. Again it is a reminder of what he owes her and he hates owing her. He decides to repay the debt by retrieving the letter and giving it to DS, knowing that it would blight his chances with DM (as if he ever had any).

Perhaps this is the one unselfish act that JP does for Grandma, DS and DM, but it backfires splendidly!!! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I cry with DM.

  159. Oh yes, I understand now, of course it rains a lot when it fully strike him. Thanks.

  160. @GB,

Yes. I made the connection a little while ago. The grumpy guy in the t-shirt is the adult who takes in his home Dooly and the others and helps them grow up. I have also seen them in “It’s okay not to be okay”.

The Start-Up in Episode 16 that JP will fund got its idea from that anime.

  161. the dinasour is Dooly and the other character is go gil dong

  162. JP has the nerve to read the letter written by DM for the real DS.

  163. “the Classic” movie reference and song with Chulsan but turned out Saha has umbrella and Chulsan had to share his shirt with YS! LOL

The Classic is Korean movie with Son Ye Jin and Jo In Sung, also about letters being written by another person. It’s a good movie, available in YT.

  164. @Ella,

You are right. I was remembering only Dooly, the t-shirt they gave to DoSan.

  165. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

DS is waiting for the train. He, of course cannot reach DM.

DM is at the station but leaves with the umbrella – she’s not meant to give him shelter this time.

The only way for the truth to be out is for them to go their separate ways and DM to see the truth with her own eyes, because no one would tell her in words. Yet it was the written word that started the doubt.

I like how Show makes good use of the hand writing motif.
Grandma took the risk of DM never finding out about the fake letters.
A foreshadowing of what would happen takes place when DS lets DM see the feedback handwritten by Grandma. It’s from Grandma’s handwriting that DM learns the truth about Grandma’s failing eyesight.
It is from JP’s handwriting, that DM suspects that Do San of the letters is not Do San, the person she loves.
And once again it’s a handwritten letter, that JP retrieves and reads, which reveals the very truth that Grandma had risked not telling DM.

Her letter says it’s time she finds him… and she sure does!!!

  166. i think suzy acted this scene very well, i can see her disappointment upon finding jp there instead of dosan.

  167. JP fall in a organic decomposition state.
The letter in the hand. ^^

  168. I have to say both meeting at the letter box is a lovely scene.

  169. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Ella and @Cleo. Yes I remember now… PBIO had those characters. Just got the connection with him investing in the company LOL.

  170. @GB – great comment on handwriting and hot it tied out to clear up the lies. It’s like writing a confession, it leads to truth.

  171. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    LOL @WEnchanteur organic decomposition state!!!

  172. Nice ending song.

  173. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Janey. Yes,… when things are down in writing and while writing, matters become clearer and links are more easily drawn.

  174. Oh, it’s an ordinary preview, no hidden ending scene ?

  175. @Gloglo – when I visit Korea, I will look for that street and mailbox. I saw in YT that the place of Grandma’s store is a small quaint restaurant!

  176. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The other thing about the handwritten letters etc… This scene so aptly counters the very first handwriting app they developed that was supposed to distinguish fake handwriting from real. It would not have been able to detect the falseness of the letters, because the real problem was in the person. DM had to see who it was and not just read the writing.

  177. Ds’s wind reference again… Well spotted @parkmule3

  178. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yup @WEnchanteur… that’s what I was noting above too. No more epilogue maybe. Gotta check the after episodes.

  179. Bye bye everybody.
I stay on the blog for a moment, because I finish to read sisyphus article and comments, and answer it.
    😉

  180. Thank you everyone for a lovely watch party as always. I’ll see you all next week. Have a good weekend.

  181. @WEnchanteur,

I haven’t been able to watch the next Episodes on Sisyphus. I have to catch up and then read what you all wrote!

Have a nice evening everyone! I really enjoyed our rewatch!

  182. Bye @Ella! 🙂

  183. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’ve ranted before and this is another version of the same rant. I was thinking about Grandma and how the whole thing came about.

The flaw in Grandma that forges the tale forward
JP goes to see Grandma and she tells him that DM is suspicious of them.
Grandma still wants to compound the lie by getting the last letter that DM wrote to DS so that DS and DM’s relationship would be more secure. However once again, she was trying to get something ‘good’ out of a lie. She was not prepared to take a risk and to let the truth be out. Ironically by lying to avoid giving or feeling pain, she was inflicting pain. It was only in this episode that she realised that lies will hurt everyone who’s involved, even her Good Boy.

I have been thinking about the risks that Grandma refused to take:
    1) Might there have been the risk of humiliating herself (as a liar) that prompted Grandma to never take the route of telling DM the truth? Certainly she did not want the pain herself of seeing DM bereft, when her family fell apart.

    2) Not taking the risk of letting DM grow up sad but possibly stronger, more resilient, etc for it. Because she did not want DM to cry, she gave her a fake ‘friend’. Protection from pain, tainted by a lie. Grandma must have known that one can’t protect a ‘child’ forever. What if Grandma had never met JP after all?

What was worse was that DM never gave any other boy a chance because fake DS was her first love and ‘perfect’. I understand why DM was so hurt when she finds out the truth this episode. She felt like a fool for years, dreaming about a fake non-existent love, who in reality had quite forgotten her.

    3) The risk of being pitied. DM is an adult now but Grandmas still does not tell DM about her going blind – another cowardly act. She didn’t want others to feel sorry for her, she didn’t want DM to cry again. She didn’t know that DS had intended to tell DM the truth that night he first met Grandma, but because she wanted to protect both herself and DM, DS was stuck again with carrying on the lie.

It’s good that DS did decide to let DM know the truth from Grandma’s own handwriting of the feedback, so that DM had the time to grieve and to give Grandma support before it was too late. I felt Grandma, by hiding the painful truth, was taking away DM’s chance to come to terms with the blindness without negative feelings. To know that one is left in the dark because one is being thought of as unable to bear the pain, or one is to be cosseted like a baby, is not good for one’s self-esteem. It’s burdensome.

In the end there was no pity, just understanding and mourning, but people get over mourning, and DM could then understand why Grandma wanted a lock and key for the front door, and not a digital security lock.

    4) The risk of hurting DM and DS’s relationship. Now again we see that the pain the young people do through or could go through comes around to bite Grandma, because if she’d allowed the truth to be out from early on, they’d have worked out their relationships earlier too.

Now Grandma finds that her Good Boy whom she’d practically strong armed into the lie with her is suffering. He wants the truth to be told, but she wants to protect DM and DS because they are happy together. She’s too afraid of her loved ones suffering.

  184. @gloglo,
a bit late but it’s difficult to read all while watchin.
yes, it’s nice explanation and fit JP personnality.
    No investissment sure return.

  185. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Bye everyone! Thanks for a fun party!!

  186. @GB – you are right, there’s no epilogue on this ep. another rewatch finding! 🤓
I think because it’s continuous with ep 10. Ep 10 starts immediately where it left off.

  187. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Janey Yes… also it could be that show is just pushing towards the finish and there are no more hidden Easter eggs.

  188. @GB,

I loved your rant. Also, Halmeoni doesn’t say anything to DalMi about this mess, neither DalMi does the same. She is the person who initiated the lie, but doesn’t get confronted about it..

    Rest and we will talk…

  189. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, I’m kind of upset that Grandma never acknowledged to DM what she did. Strangely she didn’t apologise to DM, only to JP.

  190. @GB,

I think thay was a mistake, regarding their relationship. DalMi never heard “I’m sorry.”

Neither DoSan that got into this mess and although he tried to come clean, he couldn’t…

  191. @GB – regarding grandma, I was thinking the beach scene would have been good for her to come clean about Dosan. She now knew how strong DM likes Dosan, I think if she explains it to her the would be good timing. She also has seen how her lie on going blind is already passé with Dalmi (she is really very open and understanding).

But since there is a need for 16 eps, this needs to be extended a bit, more conflicts for the growth arc, etc. All’s well that ends well!

  192. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    True @Cleo and @Janey

Grandma had to start the conflict and her consistent avoidance of pain (where DM was concerned) had to bring us all the way into 16 episodes.

Yes, I felt that DS too deserved an apology. I think she thanked him but never apologised for the suffering the prolonged lies caused.

  193. Great rewatch again!!! Thank you everyone! ❤️ Have a lovely weekend.

Off to watch Vincenzo in a bit and read more stuff on Sisyphus.

  194. Kalimera @Packmule3 and my ladies and gentz!

Are we going to rewatch Episode 10 tomorrow?

  195. Hi Cleopatra

    Yes, how about the others?

  196. Hey @Ella,

    I am in. I don’t know about the others. That’s why I posted a comment today…

  197. Yes. I’ll open a née thread. Thanks for the reminder @ cleopatra. 🙂

  198. Kalimera @Packmule3!

You are welcome! I do hope you are okay! 🙂
