Thank you my dear @pkml3! It’s been enchanting watching our OTP fall in love. We’re down to our last 2 chosen episodes for the rewatch, now jumping to Episode 14 to backstory and angst before the mood lifts again. It’s a heartrending episode but so necessary for the healing.

I know a couple of us can’t join our party tonight but I hope to see everyone else!

EPISODES 12 AND 13 BRIEF RECAP
In his quest for information on his father’s death and the interrogation before he died, Jung Hoo decides to brazenly walk into a police department to get it by official channels, while Moon Shik brazenly walks into Some Day News to meet Young Shin, the child he had abandoned, much to her confusion. MH mocks MS’s claim that he wishes to protect YS when he should have gone on his knees to apologise to her.

JH gets brought to MS’s home where he pretends that he’d just returned from studying abroad. MS tests if Myung Hee recognises JH as Healer, but she pretends that she’d never met him before. Her meeting with his mother had made her suspicious of MS. MS is upset that MHee has lied to him. He is also convinced that JH is Healer.

MHee takes JH upstairs to see her treasured photos. He stares at the photo of young Ji An, and recalls that Ji An was the name that MH had been calling out after the elevator rescue. He accosts (punches) MH for lying that Ji An is dead.

That night JH goes to be with YS at Coffee Bay, during which time, their hands touch. YS recognises the touch but dismisses it, because to her there was no way the timid Bong Soo could possibly be Healer. JH admits to Ahjumma that he likes CYS.

MS is out to own or bring down Healer, because the L.A. video was still in his possession. He uses JH’s mum as bait to bring Healer out into the open to be caught by SS Guards. Det Yoon gets in the way of Ahjumma as both of them hack into the CCTV streams of the building where the SS guards have lured Healer. When Ahjumma has to stop Yoon from discovering her position by switching off all power, JH goes in alone to confront the SS Guards and save his mum, not knowing that his mum is safe and well away.

MS’ plan almost works as JH gets hit by a tranquiliser pellet and is forced to run away from Yo Yo who is out for his blood. Sabu steps in to replace him, so that JH is not discovered. Ahjumma asks YS to locate JH who is unconscious. She gets him to hospital but figures out by the feel of his hand, and by the paper star she had folded, which he kept in his car, that Bong Soo is Healer.

YS is upset that JH had lied to her from the start. Dad Chae comforts her with hot milk and some daddy time. We get to see the sweet relationship between YS and Dad Chae, who chose to adopt such a difficult child as herself, because he had waited, and she had come to him.

JH is concerned over Sabu who is first questioned by MS and then taken into police custody. Sabu pointedly states that he suspected MS decades previously. We get the backstory of how Sabu (Young Jae) had not trusted MS who had prospered after the other 2 friends had died. Three ‘bears’ (the 3 friends) had gone out together, but only one returned and prospered.

He also accuses MS of keeping Myung Hee asleep literally and figuratively so that she’d not take action to find out the truth and he warns MS not to touch the baby bears, JH and Ji An. This is likely what seals Sabu’s fate.

After the successful attempt to use his Mum as bait, JH decides to keep her safe by separating himself from her. It’s a poignant backstory that we see, of how JH finally found his mum who had remarried, with a young son. He had wanted to ask her some questions but Mum’s regrets at abandoning JH had never abated. Her husband tells JH that she cried at every thought of JH. JH was unable to bear her tears and threatened that he’d not see her again if she cried.

She had wanted to at least keep him warm with her jacket which he refused, but seeing that it would give her comfort, he’d finally accepted a jacket and left without asking his questions. In the present, JH shows his mum that he had received her new gift of a jacket, but sadly tells her that he can’t see her anymore. She accepts it but is broken hearted all the same.

JH learns from MH that Elder is at the helm of much of the evil but he wants himself and YS to be left alone. MH plans for them to attack Elder in the only way he knows how, by publicising his crimes.

YS is upset with PBS for not revealing himself as Healer. She frankly tells him that she’s holding back holding hands, hugging and kissing Healer, much to JH’s chagrin, and tells him that she’s waiting for ‘him’ but was getting really mad.

Ahjumma catches on that one of Det Yoon’s men received something from Sec Oh, and anticipates danger to Sabu, which gets JH running to the police station. During the interview/interrogation with Det Yoon, Sabu senses that he has been poisoned. He gives information as if he is Healer, to shield JH, before he dies. JH arrives only in time to see Sabu’s body being wheeled into an ambulance.

  3. Dear Friends, tomorrow was appointed for me to get the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine. I did learn about it today at noon. I must go “donde el Diablo botó la chola” (where the Devil lost a flip-flop – very very far XD ). Given that our “government” is chaotic by nature it is very possible that will not get home until late in the day.

Sorry but will read all your messages later!!! 😀 .

  4. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FGB, thanks for letting us know. It’s good to know that you’re getting your dose of the vaccine. I actually have faith in this vaccine from China because it’s based on tried and trusted methods. All the best to you and may the reactions you may get be mild. Have a safe trip there and back!

  5. See you tomorrow @GB and the SSDS gang!!! Thanks for the recap.

@FGB – the best vaccine is the vaccine available to you. Take care and rest well, have lots of fluids.

  6. @Growing Beautifully, thank you for the comprehensive recap. I hope to see all of you later.

@FGB4877, I hope that it all goes very well for you.

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My dear Fern, you’re welcome. I’ll see you in a little more than 5 hours’ time. 😉

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Dear Janey, you’re welcome too. I kind of missed your comment. See you soon!

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi Everyone, I’m here! I hope you’ve had a good start to your weekend!

  10. Let me grab my cup of tea, and I’ll be ready to go. Good morning (my time), everyone!

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Good Morning Welmaris! I’m looking at the Healer script and show follows it pretty closely.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Ok according to my clock, it’s time to start! Let’s go!

  13. My dear Healer, my heart breaks for you. Even though you and Sabu had a complicated relationship, you loved one another. So much loss in JH’s life.

So much loss in Ajumma’s life, too.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This is really one of the mot affecting beginnings of an episode. JH just stands there disbelieving. He does not even see who it is who’s trying to keep him from being discovered by Det Yoon. The music is so ooooh! And the sound of his shuddering breath as he gets away and Dae Yong’s bunch can’t stop him.

  15. Good morning!!! Happy Healer day.

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Ahjumma’s voice too has difficulty coming out of her mouth smoothly. She still has the presence of mind to call MH to stop JH from doing something regrettable.

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Good Morning @Janey!! Glad that you’ve woken up.

I’m at the part where JH has gone to the mortuary to check for himself that it’s really Sabu under that sheet. My heart aches for him.

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Poor JH, he’d just had to separate himself from his mum last episode. Now Sabu has left him. Camera view looking down on JH crouched on the floor makes him look smaller and more vulnerable than ever.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Moon Ho comes and calls Young Jae, Hyung… like a member of his family. He knows his brother is involved… so painful for him.

Det Yoon guesses that someone will try to break into the Cyber Team’s server to get the interrogation footage.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL the flashback to the scary seaweed soup birthday!

    Here’s the Healer script:
“A pot on the stove. Water in it.
Young Yeong Jae and young Jung Hoo, squatting next to him.

Yeong Jae – Birthday. seaweed soup. that’s common sense
    Jung Hoo – Cake.
Yeong Jae – The cake was made by someone else. This seaweed soup is made by the master himself. can you compare?
    Jung Hoo – So Cake

Yeong Jae stares at Jung Hoo with a frown. Jung Hoo I can’t do it.

Jung Hoo – Do you know how to make it?
Yeong Jae – I learned from Super Auntie. water.

and points to the water in the pot.

    Yeong Jae – Beef.

Then, put a piece of meat directly into the pot of water.

    Yeong Jae – And seaweed.

Pick up a plate of dried seaweed. Yeong Jae and Jung Hoo look at that large piece of seaweed at the same time and look at the pot. It doesn’t look like it will go in Yeong Jae picks up the scissors and starts cutting the seaweed.

Jung Hoo – Can I not wash it?
Yeong Jae – If you boil it, everything will be sterilized.

    // time lapse.
Jung Hoo looking in amazement. Next to him is Yeong Jae as well.
The pot they are looking at. The seaweed that has swelled from the inside is overflowing by pushing up the lid of the pot. Yeong Jae carefully opens the lid with a ladle. Then, at the same time, the two of them run away in fear.
Seaweed is blowing up from the pot and overflowing in all directions.”

    LOL exploding seaweed soup!!

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    More Backstory from the script:

“Jung Hoo reads while showing his acceptance certificate

Jung Hoo – It proves that you have passed all subjects in the high school graduation test. did you see So give it to me now.
Yeong Jae – This (older) kid really passed.
Jung Hoo – Please. That bag.
Yeong Jae – (He takes out a locked briefcase from under the bed and wants to give it to him and hugs him to his chest) How did I get this?
Jung Hoo – Is it true that there is a real military rank in it? They said that if you learn it, your skill will only triple. just don’t
Yeong Jae – It will be different for each person. If you learn this on a blank sheet like me, it might be more effective.
Jung Hoo – Give it to me. You promised

Jung Hoo forcibly takes the bag from Yeong Jae, who is grabbing it so as not to lose it. I like to go to my bed. Yeong Jae slowly spreads the distance and takes steps to dance here and there.
Jung Hoo. Opens the bag in bed and stops.

Jung Hoo – What is this?
Yeong Jae – (getting farther away) Those are really hard to find, aren’t they?

Jung Hoo flips the bag over. Various adult magazines and videotapes are pouring in.
    Jung Hoo – This pervert..
Jung Hoo runs to catch Yeong Jae. Yeong Jae is already running away.”

  22. Hello, all. Couldn’t miss this one.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Fern! Glad to see you!!

I paused so I’m still at the part where Moon Ho is stopping JH from going to MS’s place to kill him.

We hear all the regrets that JH has because he’d been angry with Sabu.

  24. I know it’s a drama, but knocking out people with a quick blow and with minimal sound and having them unconscious for just the right amount of time, yet with no lasting brain damage…it’s a stretch. Gotta suspend disbelief on this.

JH’s goodbye to Sabu makes me cry every time. JCW does such a good job of portraying sorrow, anger, disbelief.

Moon Ho is also grieving. He’s lost family, as he says. Certainly Sabu is a better man to be brother to him than his own flesh and blood.

    Sabu’s cooking skills…or lack thereof…ha!

JH does look–and act–like a lost little boy. Moon Ho is brave to confront JH, especially after seeing the two downed morgue workers.

JH and MH fighting about what to do in response to Sabu’s death…so much emotion. But I’m buying JH’s depth of feeling more than MH’s. “I didn’t eat a single meal with him.” That’s such a real thing to say.

And now we contrast all that real emotion with the fake lovey dovey of MS and MH. Moon Sik is such scum.

  25. Okay, I@m with you.

  26. YS at work trying to find Bong Soo. Maybe he saw something scary. YS gets the blame, ha!

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

MH comes into office feeling the pain of JH’s punches.

CYS takes the opportunity to pitch her idea to MH to interview Myung Hee. I so wanted mother and daughter to meet and was so irritated that MS later intervened to delay it.

  28. MH answering YS’s chirpy comments and queries in monosyllables but she doesn’t perceive it. He says he no longer considers MS to be his brother. But YS actually wants to interview MS’s wife. I like MH’s restraint here. We can imagine all that’s going on in his head as he listens to YS.

  29. The flashback scenes of Sabu and JH were heartbreaking. He was the only father figure he has ever known.

    Exploding seafood soup. LOL!!!

His death hurts both JH and MH. And to think that MH’s brother is part of the people behind it.

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Ahjumma is going to hack into Yoon’s system. Hah! He is no match for her.

    Ahjumma’s backstory now.
“Year 2000. inside the van. The inside of a car with five cyber team detectives (late twenties and early thirties) inside. Young Min Ja hit the back of the head of young Yoon Dong Won, whose eyes were closed in the passenger seat.

Min Ja – Just like this…
    Dong Won – Ah.
Min Ja – If you get caught while sleeping, you fall behind

Dong Won, A.C. You can’t make a sound and curse. Min Ja has her hair neatly tied back. Black pants semi-suit. glasses. The cyber team detectives inside the van have been hiding there for quite some time.

Min Ja – The guys we’ve been chasing for the last four months are in there. They attack as soon as the warrant falls. never. Don’t let them touch your computer. (Slapped Detective Yoon in the back of the head again)
Yoon Dong Won – Oh, it really hurts.
Min Ja – Like this guy at Sewoon Shopping Mall last time, hesitating and coming and going. Can’t we just hang around and wait for them to delete all the files?

    The detectives chuckle.

Min Ja – Run as soon as you open the front door. Be sure to get their computers first.
Yoon Dong Won – But when is his warrant coming?
Min Ja – (Raises hand as if to hit it again)
Yoon Dong Won – (quick blocking posture)
Min Ja – What time is it?
Yoon Dong Won – (Looking at the clock) Now…
Min Ja – (Slaps him right in the middle) How can I not learn like this? every time it hangs.”

  31. When MH tells YS that Bong Soo is ill, she automatically asks, Is he hurt?

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Poor Ahjumma has a pretty sad backstory too… losing her 4 year old son and made to cover up the crime after spending 4 months to catch the criminal. She should have just spent the time with her son. What terrible regret she must have felt. No wonder she left the cyber team.

  33. YS wants to meet MH. I like her logic, because I somethings think the same thing: can a bad person be loved by a good person? If so, is the bad person not bad, just misunderstood?

Ajumma’s cyber battle with Detective Yoon: he’s actually happy despite knowing his mentor may be infiltrating the police computer network. Ajumma is still able to best Yoon. He has so much respect for her, despite her illegal activity.

Sabu was his feisty self even until his last moments. I think it makes his death easier to accept because despite his being poisoned, he went out on his own terms. And he got to say what he wanted to say to the child he raised.

Again, I find JH’s grieving so believable: shutting down emotionally when there’s just too much to process. He’s also processing his feared loss of YS. He wants to protect her from danger, so I wouldn’t consider his withdrawing from her noble idiocy.

I find YS’s phone messages to BS a true (and, again, believable) arc of emotions. She doesn’t know about Sabu’s death, but he feels that she’s been cut out by BS and she’s scared, angry, and sad.

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

THE MESSAGE FROM SABU TO JH
“I got the testimony recording from your teacher. I watched it first. No matter how I look at it, it’s not a message to the detectives, but to you.

‘I started working as the Healer a year after I was released. The name Healer is from the magazine that I had made with my college friends. It’s cool. Healer.’ (We see JH sitting on some steps, face buried in his arms, listening)

‘What was the most recent assignment you did?’
‘You know Jeill Newspaper’s CEO, Kim Moon Shik, right? He asked me. My work is, I do everything for a lot of money. Ethics, justice, I don’t think about such things. Ah… I should have lived thinking about it a bit more. This is really like a signboard. If you don’t know where you should go, that kind of signboard. a cliff on that side, a construction site on the other. Go back there.’

‘Do you know Go Sung Cheol? He’s from LA. Did you kill him? After you got a request?’
‘I don’t accept work like that. If someone kills another person, he’s not human anymore. No matter how I’ve lived, I should die as a human being. So that I can meet the people I wanted to meet again. The people who left first. I have one regret. I should have stopped already.’

Sabu suddenly turns to look at the camera, so that it seems he is looking at JH who’s now standing in front of the monitor watching.
‘I should have stopped this, and had two kids with a woman I love, one dog, two cats, three goldfish, and lived while raising them. I should have done that, huh?’ And Sabu smiled at the camera, that usual, cheeky grin.”

My heart breaks for JH. At least Sabu managed to give him good advice.

  35. This is Ahjumma’s backstory here, too. And her connection with detective. Healer is holed up in his lair with grief. This is such a sad episode.

The only glimmer of hope was YS meeting her mom, unknowingly.

  36. Sabu really did his best with the last seconds of his life.

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Poor JH, he does not want CYS to be near him because like Sabu, she might be killed. “There’s nothing I can do. I’m going to get some sleep.”

    He slept for 6 days!!!

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    So true @Janey and @Fern.

Poor MH has no friends except Min Jae… so no matter what goes on between them, he still goes back to her otherwise he has no one to talk with.

  39. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Min Jae seems to know MH rather well. Tells him that he’s actually a coward.

Show is smart in telling us what’s happening without exposition through YS’s messages to JH. LOL her mood shifts at each voice message.

  40. So the path has been laid for daughter and mother to finally meet. MH believes if her daughter is alive somewhere, as a mother she’ll know in her heart. MH does have good feelings about YS just by hearing her voice, but

Ajumma and her skull-decorated scarf. YS’s “uncle” knows instantly Ajumma’s a force with which to be reckoned. I’m so glad Ajumma decides to trust YS. “I had to see those eyes.”

JH feels so alone in the world, but people want to reach out to him in his time of need. He is much loved by many.

  41. @G , I think Min Jae saying MH is a coward is also a personal dig on him. There was underlying attraction between them and he was a coward about it. Hahaha!

  42. Ahjumma stalks into the restaurant 30 minutes before it opens. Coffee Ahjussi thinks she’s in a bad mood because of marriage problems.

  43. Aww YS looking for BS’ address and continuing to text him…

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes @Janey, Min Jae had been waiting for him to make them an official couple. I feel he didn’t because of his guilt over being silent over what MS had done to lose Ji An. It was only after YS/JA was restored to her mother, so to speak, that he took up with Min Jae.

  45. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, Ahjumma’s pushing the Coffee Bay ahjusshi and just walking into the store always makes me laugh. She looks wonderful with that hairdo!

  46. @GB, yes, she is a force to be reckoned with.

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Ahjumma is so commanding towards YS that she obeys.

    From the script:
“A glass of water placed in front of Min Ja. Yeong Shin released the glass of water and the menu.

Yeong Shin – What would you like to eat?
Min Ja – (looks intently at Yeong Shin)
Yeong Shin – If you’re going to have breakfast… (looks at the menu) Here’s the breakfast set. if not..
Min Ja – Sit in the front. .
Yeong Shin – (She’s really weird) Uh… I’m not actually a clerk here.
    Min Ja – in front.
Yeong Shin. can’t do it. sit across from

Min Ja – Can’t you remember my voice?
    Yeong Shin – (??)
Min Ja – (repeat what he said) Mr. Chae Yeong Shin? You know Park Bong Soo, right?

Yeong Shin was startled and almost got up, but then sat back down.

Yeong Shin – Bong Soo’s Mother?
Min Ja – I’m definitely not a mother. (Pull out USB and jack from bag)
Yeong Shin – (Due to a baby) Bong Soo has been absent from work for several days. No contact..
Min Ja – Give me your phone.
Yeong Shin – My cell phone.. (handing it over) But does Bong Soo hurt? Or where did you go abroad? No, even if you go abroad, you can still call… But what are you doing?
Min Ja – (connecting USB to Yeong Shin’s cell phone and operating her phone) Gya has not moved for 6 days now. Supermarket nearby. I looked all over for delivery restaurants. I haven’t bought a sip of water, let alone food. When I go there, I don’t know how to get in. Then there is one way. I have to call the whale whale and let Ji open the door and come out. (Looking at Young Shin)
    Yeong Shin – (Looking trembling)
Min Ja – What I’m saying right now. To what extent do you understand?
Yeong Shin – That person. Are you okay? …isn’t it okay? (But without realizing it, my throat is choked and tears are forming)
    Min Ja – (Only watching)

Yeong Shin cries. Holding Min Ja’s wrist

Yeong Shin – Where are you? that person. teach me
    Min Ja – (Looking)
Yeong Shin – (I’m in a hurry) Where are you? Please… (eyes full of tears and nervousness)
Min Ja – (nodding) I had to look into those eyes. (He handed Yeong Shin’s cell phone)”

  48. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Now the skills YS picks up from the ex-convict ahjusshis come in mighty useful! Only she is able to find the way into Healer’s lair.

  49. JH has given up. He is starving himself and thinks YS is a dream. He cuddles up to her like a child.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, yes poor JH needed a mum as well as a friend, and YS used to call him ‘sister’ LOL. She’s all that, but finally, and mostly his beloved.

I like that the OST Highlight plays for her when she finds the way into the lair! It puts her on par with Healer in her abilities.

  51. I just realized that Ahjumma and Park Min Young were mother-daughter in Her Private Life! She can really be a bad ass and demanding person asking her to sit down with her.

YS figuring out the booby traps in Healer’s lair. Yup, she was raised with the ex-convicts so she can break locks, etc. easy peasy…

And the background song – Its You… she will find the one person she likes romantically and as a friend is one.

  52. Hooray for YS and her burglary skills!

JH waking from his stupor to find YS must’ve felt good, although he fights it, out of fear for her safety. I’m glad YS resists his efforts to push her away.

Their scenes of domestic bliss (?) are so sweet. YS wearing JH’s clothes, cooking for him, caring for him because he’s sick (yeah! because his home is so cold inside you can see his breath)…there’s more ways to demonstrate deep love than skinship. It is obvious that YS fights to stay by JH because she loves him deeply and selflessly. Their kiss at the end of this episode is much more than romantic contact: it is acknowledgement of commitment, release from fears (at least for the moment), acceptance of the ties between them despite their complexity, surrender (in the best sense).

  53. JH doesn’t want to be saved. He plans to get just enough strength from the porridge to shove her out of the door. But she’s not afraid of him.

  54. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

So poignant that inside the invincible Healer is the vulnerable little boy who needs to be cuddled and to be held.

  55. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern She knew that JH would never hurt her or let her get hurt.

  56. It’s not surprising that they are together. When YS says, ‘Don’t send me away,’ and it’s just like JS’s experience as a child so he can understand that. They have both been abandoned in the past, but because of YS’s adopted family, she has the strength to love him as he is.

  57. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This ending scene was such an opposite of all the those with people he loved. They left, some without even a goodbye. Even Ahjumma is prepared to ‘let Healer go.’ But here is YS saying “Don’t make me leave.”

Yes @Welmaris, that kiss was a signing and sealing of commitment. She wouldn’t leave him and trusted him to always protect her too. So much angst but the ending makes it worth while.

  58. I think that the dialogue says so much in such a short exchange. That she knows he won’t ever hurt her (making us remember all of the times he has shown her support) and that she doesn’t want to be sent away (she will stay with him as long as he needs her. Please don’t abandon her again.) She embraces him and his opposing strength gives way. It’s the final crack in his dam.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    From the script:
“Jung Hoo – Why are you so fearless?
Yeong Shin – You are not afraid.
Jung Hoo – You don’t know who I am. Can’t you imagine how much I… hide from you?
Yeong Shin – It doesn’t matter.
Jung Hoo – Are you stupid?
Yeong Shin – Don’t Let Me Go If you let me go, you will cry for the rest of your life.
Jung Hoo – I’m going to… hurt you.
Yeong Shin – No. you don’t hurt me never.

Jung Hoo. Somehow out of breath Whoa, whoa, whoops, I breathe. I don’t know if that makes me want to cry. Yeong Shin is worried about Jung Hoo like that. Jung Hoo comes to Yeong Shin step by step. Yeong Shin sees Jung Hoo like that. Jung Hoo grabbed Yeong Shin’s arm. I’m trying to pull you away. Somehow it stopped While Jung Hoo hesitates, Yeong Shin hugs Jung Hoo’s neck.

Yeong Shin – Don’t Let Me Go do not do that.

Jung Hoo eventually hugs Yeong Shin. I didn’t want to miss it, so I hugged her like that, buried his head in Yeong Shin’s neck, and she suddenly raised her head. Raise one hand and wipe your eyes. Tears are flowing. Tears that once burst keep flowing. Yeong Shin lifts her head to look at Jung Hoo and wipes Jung Hoo’s tears with both hands. Jung Hoo. He sees Yeong Shin in embarrassment. Yeong Shin raises her height to kiss Jung Hoo, who is so helpless. Jung Hoo weeps and accepts the kiss.” The script says that JH was so helpless, that aspect of him only appears with YS. He dares to show his face and be fully vulnerable only before her.

  60. this episode had so many emotions laid bare. How each person responds to loss (even YS fearing loss of JH when he withdrew from her) is depicted true to character. I think that’s one reason this show continues to resonate with viewers through the years. We can identify with that roiling mass of emotions that comes with abrupt loss, and the struggle to grapple with them.

Of everyone, Ajumma keeps her outer composure the best, but we can still see that she’s deeply hurting. Her grief and anger spur her to take risks she wouldn’t otherwise take, risking exposure of her true identity. (She knows Detective Yoon will recognize her computer hacking skills.) And for JH’s sake, she comes out from behind her computer to enlist YS to go to him. Ajumma has a fierce mama bear’s heart.

I’m going back to bed to finish my night’s sleep (which was fitful), but I’ll be back later today to read everyone’s comments and add more of my own, if I’ve got more to say.

Bye @Welmaris! Have a good sleep!

  62. The script is awesome and the actors nail it. It is so well done.

  63. Good night, @Welmaris.

  64. Have good sleep @Welmaris.
I can’t end watching this episode after that embrace and kiss… moving on to ep15!

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

It’s amazing the detail that scriptwriter Song Ji Na was able to imagine and write and how the PD was able to make most of it a reality in the show. She seems to have thought of everything. The actors just had to put in the emotions and the expressions. They were so good too. Whole show was wonderfully put together.

  66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I know how you feel @Janey! I love, love Episode 15. The way JH was so stunned that his dream had come true and how he clung to YS… literally sticking to her back LOL. I’m too sleepy now though, so I’ll catch it another time.

Thanks for a great rewatch @Fern and @Janey and of course @Welmaris! See you for the final episode next week. 😉

  67. @Janey, in these Healer re-watches I’ve often wondered about the many indoor scenes where you can see the actors’ breath. It was like that in Healer’s home and in the Elder’s headquarters as well. It makes me admire how they could perform in such cold places. The film crew must have not bothered to turn any heating on or needed the power to operate their equipment.

  68. Thank you, everyone. I will be in Scotland next week, so may miss the last one. We’ll see. It will probably depend on the weather.

  69. @Fern – I agree, it’s probably super cold during those shoots. I like all their winter wardrobes but seems those are not enough. The difference of the body temp vs the environment is big hence the steam. Most winter dramas have this. I can’t imagine having those work conditions not just for the actors but also for the crew. I can’t stand the cold.

Goodnight @GB!! Thanks for hosting the rewatch! Those script insights on the details were so helpful for the actors. They just have to really act it out. That’s probably also why in BtS, they can easily detect who is doing as libs!

  70. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

About ad libs, that’s true @Janey. It becomes pretty obvious that actors are doing their own thing. It will be interesting if we can notice which parts have ad libs, but at the same time, we don’t know if the director made any little changes, so differences may actually have been built in during the shoots.

5 more episodes (of some nice lovey dovey scenes!) before the finale!

  71. Trying to convince YS to leave him, JH says to her, “Don’t you know who I am? I’m hiding so much from you, but you…You don’t even have the slightest idea, do you? I think those words are double edged. JH may be thinking of the Healer’s activities he’d hidden from her (perhaps the jobs he took before meeting her, as she’d be appreciative, not shocked, to learn of all the ways he’d protected her). He may also be thinking about their fathers’ connected fates, worried that YS would not be able to love the son of a man involved in her father’s death. But another way to interpret those words is that in his Healer persona she saw him as strong and competent, and in his Bong Soo persona she saw him as approachable and a confidante, but his real self…his real self that even he wasn’t sure he knew…was vulnerable, angry at the world, and close to giving up on life. Would she also love the hurt little boy inside? YS answered “I don’t care.” She didn’t mean she didn’t care about who he really is, she meant she accepts him unconditionally, good and bad. It’s a declaration of love for the part of him he’s hiding from everyone else, and she believes that version of JH is as trustworthy as the others she’s seen. She has unshakable faith JH will not hurt her, even in his most unpolished form.

@FGB4877, I hope you successfully got your COVID-19 vaccine and will not have uncomfortable side effects.

Hi @pkml3! This is a gentle reminder for the Ep 20 Healer rewatch thread, if you please. And also that next week, we are hoping to continue with a new rewatch, for the kdrama: W – Two Worlds.

With the latter show, I’d like to rewatch all the episodes, simply because I never did ‘get’ the logic and got fed up along the way. I do hope the input from fellow rewatchers throw more light on this show.

  73. Okay. Will do. I’ll be home in 2 hours.

About W: Two Worlds, I think we should wait till Wenchanteur comes back. That’s his specialty. He named himself after it.

How about we give him some more time to attend to pressing issues? Say two weeks?

We can have a “summer break” and start in September.

Or we can do movies while waiting for him.

  74. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3, I’m agreeable. I too was hoping for @WE to be able to join us for the rewatch, but I understand ‘where he is’ right now. I’m feeling that it will take quite a long time before he is up to drama watching again.

Let’s just wait a while, and do maybe some drama specials or movies instead. I watched a very nice, ‘bitter-sweet,’ but mostly sweet Chinese movie based on another movie “On Your Wedding Day” for eg. This newer version is entitled: My Love and came out this year, 2021. A different kind of happy ending?

I’m open to other suggestions for shows and we can take a break as well. I’ll be involved in 2 or more projects until the end of September, so that suits me, but the rest of the gang can continue.

Thanks for giving us your ‘living room’ each week. I find that having the rewatch gives us something fun to look forward to and do together. It’s like hanging out in our club house where it’s open and we can always find a friend to chat with. Let’s see what the others say.

  75. At the advice of a friend who’s a Japanese teacher, I recently watched Caution: Hazardous Housewife on Viki. It’s a Jdorama from 2017 that’s 10 episodes long, each a bit less than one hour. It has humor, but also tackles issues such as domestic abuse, bullying, etc. I don’t want to give too much away. The female lead is trying to settle into a new, happy life but keeps having to secretly use the talents of her old life for the benefit of her new neighbors. I like the way this show depicts friendships between women. Maybe we could try an episode or to as a Saturday watch party then decide if we want to continue?

  76. I’m happy to wait for WEnchanteur. I’m intrigued by W: Two Worlds and would like to watch with his feedback.
