Bitch Talk: What Are We Watching Sept 2021?

On top of my list is “Lovers of the Red Sky” (LotRS or Red Sky, for short). Next is Yang Yang’s “You Are My Glory” (which is completely subbed by now), followed by “Hometown Cha Cha Cha.”

“Hospital Playlist 2” has been moved to the backburner. I would have thrown it in the rubbish pile a long time ago, but my curiosity demands that I witness this director and writer’s self-immolation till the end.

I’ve to start on my “Racket Boys” review.

Here are the dramas of September that struck my fancy.

1. Yumi’s Cells

Since I’ve often wondered what went on inside the head of somebody who made a dumb decision, this romcom should be funny. This is based on a completed webtoon.

Synopsis from soompi:

Based on the hit webtoon of the same name, “Yumi’s Cells” will tell the story of an ordinary office worker named Yumi—from the point of view of the many brain cells in her head controlling her every thought, feeling, and action. Kim Go Eun will be playing the titular role of Yumi, an ordinary woman who struggles with expressing her feelings, while Ahn Bo Hyun will star as Goo Woong, a warm-hearted but straightforwardly honest game developer.

source: soompi

Cast:

Kim Go Eun (“The King: Eternal Monarch” and “Goblin”)
Ahn Bo Hyun (never heard of him but he was in “Itaewon Class”) He reminds me of Kyungsoo D.O.

Episodes: only 14?!
Start Date: Friday, Sept 17
This will air the day after HP2’s end. I’ll need a distraction.
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: tvN

2. Dali and the Cocky Prince

Another romcom. This looks like fun.

Synopsis from mydramalist

About the unexpected romance that occurs as Jin Moo Hak tries to steal an art museum from Kim Dal Ri.

Kim Dal Ri, who was a visiting researcher at Kröller-Müller Museum and then becomes the director of Chungsong Art Museum. She is a character whose speech and actions are always classy and considerate. Dal Ri enjoys studying diverse fields such as art, philosophy, and religion, and she is proficient in seven languages.

Jin Moo Hak, whose family grew a tiny gamja-tang (spicy pork back bone stew) restaurant into the global food corporation DonDon F&B. Although he is a director of the company, he is far from intelligent and was always ranked last in his class when he was in school.

source: mydramalist

Cast:

Kim MinJae (“Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency”)
Park GyuYoung (“It’s Okay to Be Psycho” – she had a crush on the male lead)

Episodes: 16
Start Date: Wednesday, Sept 22
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: KBS

3. The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim

I’ve been following this series, but I suggest that you binge-watch it when it’s over. The final episode is in October. Each episode is only 20 minutes long.

This is about high school girl with shaman skills teaming up with the handsome class valedictorian to fight the evil spirit that’s been killing the lowest-ranking student at their prestigious school. Talk about high stakes exams!

Cast:
Nam DaReum
Kim SaeRon

Episodes: 12 (7 episodes have already been released)
Where to Watch It: Viki

This is a webdrama. The cinematography, special effects, soundtrack, etc., aren’t that polished but the plot is fine. There are no plotholes. Despite its low-budget, the show’s doing what it has to do.

Na DaReum (the adolescent JP in “Start-Up”) is over-emoting again with his angsty scenes. lol. His emotional scenes always remind me of Chicken Little squawking “The sky’s falling!” But I’m giving him a pass because he’s young. He’ll grow into it.

Kim SaeRon isn’t doing any aegyo…so far.

I’m not sure about “chemistry” of the two leads but as long as the story flows, I’m not lodging major complaints about this webdrama.

4. Chinese dramas???

“You Are My Glory.”

I’m not starting anything else till I’m done with this series. But I’m eyeing “Battle of Changsha” with Wallace Hugo and YangZi. I think it’s going to be melodramatic since the setting is the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945).

Anyway, I’m revving myself up for my Yang Yang-centric reviews.

  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Welcome back home @pkml3!

  2. Welcome back @packmule3!! Kim min jae in that drama looks like a drop of water I need in my romcom desert that I, once, ever so longgggg, in a while make a lazy visit. 🤭🤭🤭 But HP2 has ruined my appetite for any kdrama for the time being. 🥺 After I recover, I will watch those kdramas I look forward to including the drama One The Woman starring fav Lee Honey who goes bonkers again 🤭🤭🤭 she is such a delight in Fiery Priest with her “I am sooooo stresss” remark 😆😆

There is also Mount Jiri with Ju Ji Hoon… 🤧🤧🤧…

    Enjoy the monthly watch ladies!

  3. 🙂 Glad to be home, @GB. Must catch up on my dramas — my fictional kdramas.

  4. Good to know you’re back home! ☺️

I’m watching HTCCC, HP2 and Falling Into Your Smile, I’ll try Kim Min Jae’s drama. 😊

  5. Yes, I’m looking forward to Kim MinJae on my small screen, @miracle23.

My new personal laptop arrived while I was away. I’ll have it up and running tonight. But to avoid getting bad juju (or bad luck) on it, I’m not going to use it for anything HP2 related. 😂😂

  6. @agdr03,

Did you keep tabs on Yu Tu’s kisses? Just post them on the YAMG thread (if you haven’t yet) and I’ll take screenshots as I go along.

By the way, a weird thing happened to my Viki on my laptop. The homepage is showing up in Chinese. The subs are still in English, though…

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @pkml3, HP2 has got a bad name, but now it sounds like bad karma. That’s not to say, it didn’t bring it upon itself! I’m sorry for the cast in a way. They had to act the way the script and director directed them. It could have been such a great series. I wonder if it can pull itself out of the rut in the last 2 episodes of almost 4 hours in total.

  8. I didn’t keep tabs on which episode the kisses were but I counted 26-27. I can do it because once it starts it just goes on and on. 😂 I’ll put it on that thread. See look at this one. 😈

  9. Welcome back @packmule3! Based on your favorable comment (about writing the glowing review) for HC3, I started the series and really like it so far, thank you. I’ll keep on that; and since I’ve not watched the Reply series yet I’ll start on 1997 ASAP since all three are leaving Netflix on Sept 30th.

Yumi’s cell sounds great and I love the plot idea…however I’m not sure I can watch it. I really dislike that actress. Couldn’t stand her at all in Goblin, then didn’t like her much in TKEM either or Tune in for Love as her acting is very similar. To me, she just seems to be playing herself in all 3. I know she’s a successful and in-demand actress so this is likely an unpopular opinion. I’ll wait for your review before giving it a go.

  10. That is weird with the Viki on your laptop. I’ve never had that before. I’m not sure why it’s like that.

  11. Hello dear Friends, how are you? 😀 .

@GB, hope to go for another Saturday watch with you and our friends 😀 .

Personally I am following a Japanese Drama that, while completed, it is still not subbed in its entirety, that is “Omameda Towako and her three ex-husbands”. The titular character is a little over-protected, a perfectionist and is a little disdainful. What won it for me is that she encounters a lot of mature situations (as in “I have to deal with the world on my own with nothing guiding me nor protecting me from reality”) and does it with charm. It also deals with her three ex-husbands, their strong and weak points and how they finally decide to form an ex-husbands’ club. So far it is very good.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My dear @FGB, I hope we can return to our Saturday rewatch parties too. We can vote for the next show to watch at https://bitchesoverdramas.com/2021/08/13/healer-rewatch-ep-20-on-sat-aug-14/

We have a short list of 4 dramas to choose from.

I trust that you’re well and that another opportunity to get the vaccine presents itself!

  13. FGB4877, that sounds interesting 😊

@MrsRJH1, similarly, I have seen her clips from her various works. All similar not much different. Another one dimensional. For me, she is just not my preference, same goes with her best buddy who plays JGU in HP. 😊

  14. Welcome back, @packmule3!

I have noted down Dali and the Cocky prince, too. I’m catching up with Mr. Sunshine with Kim Minjae and I’ve seen several works of Park Gyu Young last month (The Devil Judge and Sweet Home) so, if we trust the teaser it could be a really fun drama to watch.

  15. Welcome home @PM3!!! HPL2 as bad juju maybe true. Canoe paddling turned train wreck. Like you, I can’t wait for it to end just to see how it ends.

I’m still not over “You are My Glory” so I’ve been doing rewatches of it and “Love 020” too. I may have notes on eps and kisses. Haha! I need feel-good distractions from office work pressures.

I watched “The Chair” Netflix series with awesome Sandra Oh.

Also watching HC3 with beach and cute grandmas. I’m planning to catch up on LotRS this long weekend.

I did not know Yumi cells is like Pixar’s “Inside Out”. Hmmm… will see.

And I miss time with Saturday rewatch rangers but have been lazily enjoying the break and sleeping in a bit.

    Happy September everyone!!

  16. @Packmule3, welcome back! Hope you had a great trip. Thanks for sharing your list! 🙂

Since I just started watching K-dramas from CLOY, I have a list of 20 or so I want to watch. I try to watch one or at the most two at a time. Am currently finishing HP2 and just started Hometown CCC. Am so disappointed with HP2 but enjoying Hometown CCC, which is warm and soothing. 🙂

I know You Are My Glory is getting rave reviews, but I watched an episode and skimmed parts of it including the ending on YouTube, and it’s just not my thing.

Last weekend I spent two hours skimming the C-drama The First Half of My Life (2017) and thought it was really good and thought-provoking, but didn’t want to commit the time to watch 42 episodes. I am not sure why, but as someone who understands Mandarin, I find a lot of C-dramas kind of fake (especially the subbed voices, etc.) but I really enjoyed The First Half of My Life and look forward to season 2 which should be released soon.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! In Taipei almost everything is back to normal, we are so thankful! We can dine out, everyone is back to work at school and work in person, swimming pools and sports centers are open, etc. Of course we are all masked up and almost everyone is getting or wants to get the vaccine. 🙂

  17. Hi@packmule3, Happy to see you back. You were missed. I’ll watch anything the consensus wants. Just finished YAMS-loved it. Am in the middle of two long haul popular dramas, Revolutionary Sisters and The Second Husband. I wouldn’t recommend them for this group but I now get their appeal to most Koreans. I needed to see these to get a better understanding of the average viewer. I know one of those series is going on until February.

Not for group watching but for fun I enjoyed The Witch’s Diner. Our Zombie Detective/Extracurricular actress proves she is quite good and versatile and Song Bye Ko in a different sort of role for her with great costumes and make up is great as always. There is also food porn.

But for purposes of our viewing, I’m happy to go where I’m led. I know I’ll learn a hell of a lot and have fun in the bargain. BOD is my happy retirement place-, great for the mind and spirit. I hope all of you are well and safe. Counting my blessings that all Ida gave us was a little water that a shop vac could handle. Sending prayers to all who have dealt with pandemic and natural and other challenges for a healing period of calm.

  18. Oops- I namrd the wrong Song in Witch’s Diner. It’s the wonderful, versatile, game Song Ji Hyo. I love this actress and even sure her pluck in Running Man. She is way up there for me and to have gotten her name wrong is unforgivable. Please accept this correction.

  19. I just watch two ep 2 of hong chun gi/ red sky yesterday.
I still need more episode, to say my first impression.
But, i love bts chemistry between yoo jung and hyeon sop.

Honestly its hard to move on from YAMG and nevertheless (no matter how much majority viewers hate nabi choice. Idk but this one also my favorite drama this year, beside vincenzo, yamg, My roommate is gumiho)

I love shin min ah, will try to watch cha cha today, right now 😁

  20. I like the concept of Yumi’s cells. Sometimes I wish I could see what makes me tick. I like the look of Dali and the Cocky Prince.

There was something pleasantly grounded and well timed about YAMG.👍❤️ Pity @agdo03’s video above has just made my laptop catch on fire. 🔥🚒 Help.

  21. I finished you are my glory—delightful
I’m almost done with the cdrama Our Secret. It’s been fine..typical high school drama
I’ve binged On the Verge of Insanity the past two days. I like it a lot. He remind me of an Asian Clint Eastwood and the show is a cross between Mad Men and The Office
I think I will start Red Sky and Police University. H3 just really isn’t appealing to me right now…maybe once all the episodes are out.
I’m hoping Yumis Cells will be great. I actually really enjoy that actress.
When I downloaded Wetv/Tencent for Glory I browsed the site and the upcoming Cdramas Oath of Love, She and her perfect husband and Hello Sharpshooter sound interesting. I think that’s all I have on my radar right now.
I’d also like to mention Mad for Each Other on Netflix, it’s a fun, short binge.

  22. Welcome home! @packmule3. I have my eye on MinJae’s drama and Yuma’s cells looks interesting. I couldn’t believe it but hubby has started to watch Sisyphus (dubbed in English). Totally weird listening to them speak English. I told him to just do subtitles instead but he’s too lazy 😂.

  23. Older American Lady

@birdie007, I watched On The Verge of Insanity and Mad For Each Other and thought both were excellent. The actors were experienced, not teenagers and the stories had adult themes. On The Verge of Insanity dealt with ageism, politics, corruption, ambition and lots of other themes in the workplace, It is also reminiscent of Start Up. It is worth the watch. And Mad For Each Other deals with mental health in a very engaging way. I think both embody the best parts of K Dramas-the heartfelt emotions serious themes and the ingenious ways to get there.

  24. @Janey, 👋🏻 Please, please kindly put your notes on the kisses on the YAMG thread. Let’s make Queen’s future post on it extra hot 🔥 when she includes gifs of it. 😈😂

    I’ve rewatched LoveO2O too after YAMG. ☺️

@Fern, I hope your laptop’s ok now. I was trying to find a compilation of the kisses but no luck. I’ll keep looking though. 😉

  25. Hello to all my watching colleagues, and a special welcome back to
@packmule3. I missed your insights and information, and I’m glad to see them return. I’m looking forward particularly to your review of “Racket Boys”, which I find both interesting and likeable, yet intensely irritating in places.
It seems we have quite a few decisions to make regarding our collective viewing in September. I’m going to admit immediately that “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” does not appeal. Don’t ask me why – perhaps it’s the title. So I’ll be avoiding that one, but I’ll definitely have a look at “Yumi’s Cells”, although I don’t intend to watch the Pixar version as a basis for comparison.
I still can’t cut my ties with “The Devil Judge”. The concept is still resonating strongly with me. I haven’t thought so deeply about our basic human social issues for a long time. A personal re-watch is very much in the offing.
@Hatlady, I think Taipei and Western Australia (me) must be enjoying a similar experience regarding the Covid-19 situation. Some Australian states are still having it hard and are still in a hard lockdown condition, which has resulted in Western Australia hosting the finals of the beloved national football competition (a stadium-full of thousands of Western Australian fans). It’ll be a good test of our decision to hold to closed borders.
See you all on the threads, I hope.

  26. @OAL
Yes, you summed up my feelings about each of them perfectly.
Both felt raw and real and the actors were all impressive. The actor who played Trash in R94 was 💯 in Mad for Each Other. I think he and Lee Sun Gyun could read a phone book and I’d be mesmerized by their voices alone.

I think it’s also a testament to You are my Glory’s goodness in that usually watching something as gritty as On the Verge of Insanity would make Glory’s sparkle seem more tacky and shallow but it actually still held up well and felt like there was also something to learn from watching the show and not just enjoy the surface easy entertainment of it all.
Now to decide between police University and red sky…

  27. Hi all and welcome back @packmule3.

I tink I will watch Racket boys, maybe Yumi too. But not so soon cos I need a break after a bad spell of HP drama. May start with cdramas You are my glory and/or The coolest world.

Like to share wat the coolest world is abt tat caught my interest :-

Below is a synopsis of the coolest world drama which I find the storyline interesting. I have watched Zhou Yu Tong shows before and I like her. However, I haven’t watch the 2 main leads shows before hence can’t comment.

It is a story tat depicts the ideals /aspirations of a group of media professionals as they break thru shackles to start anew. Teng Xiaoxiao is just an ordinary girl who struggles to make a living in Beijing, and to find her place in tis bustling metropolis. She worked hard at the magazine company with a dream to win the Pulitzer Prize. However, her company suddenly being acquired by another media company turns her work life upside down as she has to start over as an intern. In a rapidly changing world, in the face of the competition and integration of traditional media & new media, Teng Xiao and her friends continue to move forward with a positive attitude, eventually experiencing growth both career and love.

The main leads are Zhou Yu Tong as Teng Xiaoxiao, Wang Dong as Lu Mang, Li Hong Yi as Duan Chong.

Cheers & hv a nice Sunday

  28. Lost (jtbc, iQIYL) seems to have a My Mister slice of life vibe to it, so far. Great acting as well by Jeon do-yeon and Ryu Jun-yeol

  29. Welcome back @pm3!! Always good to be home. Yumi cells looks interesting and like many of you here I am still not able to move on YAMG. I am rewatching with hubby and so have not kept track of kisses. 😅 trying to resist not giving him spoilers. I should rewatch the third time. I am digging up a lot of info on YAMG, good ones like the stuff on directing, the novel and details not normally noticed, will try to post in YAMG thread.

Maybe @agdr03, we can count kisses here? They have all the good parts from the whole show in this channel.
    https://youtu.be/eehZjlrwi_g

Will be watching hometown ChaChaCha soon, after my 2nd YAMG rewatch. 😬

  30. Welcome back, @pm3! ❤️

I am also watching Ga Doo Shim and my patience is tested since it’s only 20 minutes long and aired only once a week. But since I had already started watching it, I have no choice but to endure the weekly wait. I also finished YAMG and enjoyed it very much. It was something light to watch without too much drama and conflict. I also recently finished Racket Boys because of the suggestions here and I can’t wait to read your review!

I will probably give the dramas listed here a watch for the first two episodes and decide if I want to continue or not. I somehow want to watch Kim MinJae again after his Do You Like Brahms drama which I did not finish because the last episodes were too melodramatic for my taste. I’m glad this one’s a romcom.

Aside from HP2, I am also currrently watching LotRS and Police University. As for HCCC, I am watching it if I have time but I’m not too attached to watch it the moment it airs on Netflix. I guess I’m reserving it for days when I wanted something light to relax.

  31. Police University is at the top of my list. I like everything about it. The friendships developing among the professors, the buddy film aspect, the coming of age, the sweet love story between the FL and ML and the mystery. I’m at a loss who big bad is – police professor lady with the crazy glasses?

Also, if you want to feel totally wrecked and ponder a show for days afterward – DP on Netflix. Devastating look at bullying in Korean Army. Timeline is 2014 – apparently a number of reforms have been put in place since then.

  32. @Good Twin,

No, DP is off my list. I watched the first few minutes and fast-forwarded to the ending when I saw the recruit’s head bang his head on the nail.

Right now, I don’t want to see realistic depictions of brutality and torture in my kdramas. I’m watching kdramas purely for escapism. They’re more relaxing and effective for me than going to therapy. 🙂

  33. Thanks, @grace. Please post your treasure trove of anything YAMG-related on the YAMG Open Thread. I’ll join you shortly.

  34. Thanks, @Storyteller.

“Lost” is a melodrama so between that and “Hometown Cha Cha Cha,” I’m shallow enough to gravitate towards the latter. Too bad because I was looking forward to watching Ryu JunYeol. I never watched anything of his after “Reply 1988.”

I’m also not into noona romances. This one had a 13 year age gap.

But the clincher for me was the combined visual appeal of Shin Minha and Mr Smiley Guy. Their aegyo easily wins over Jeon Do Yeon’s and Mr Hyeri’s somber faces.

  35. Thanks @grace, how is your hubby enjoying it so far? He’s cool to join you. My hubby prefers anything horror. 😕

I’ll check out that YouTube link that you put here. With the kisses, we counted them but we wanted to know which episodes it happened. 😉 But it shouldn’t be hard because the first one was at the reunion party. From there, every episode has kisses. 🥰

  36. Kalispera @Packmule3 and welcome back!

Hello everyone! So far I have a hectic programme.
So, I will start with those I was watching and I haven’t progressed to those I want to watch…

I have finished “You are my Glory” and I found it amazing!
I want to write my thoughts on the YAMG thread but I don’t know when I will find time.

As for HP2 I haven’t the subbed episode and I don’t know if I am going to watch the last two.

I have started watching ChaChaCha but I cannot keep up. So, If I don’t manage to watch the half second episode and the next ones, I will watch it in the future.

I haven’t had time to watch the latest episodes of The Great Shaman Da Goo Shim, but I can manage it since they are 20minutes long.

I will definitely continue watching “Lovers of the Red Sky”, It is in fantasy genre and if you in fantasy genre I have to inform you that “Wheel of Time” Saga by late Robert Jordan will broadcast on Prime this November.

I will definitely watch “Yumi’s Cells” I have read the webtoon up to one point and I follow Kim Go Eun.

As for “Lost” another friend is waiting for this one and I will know if they have watched it.

That’s all for now. I do hope you are all SAFE!

  37. @pàckmule3, I agree with you about DP as a group watch. It is too brutal. However I’ll be watching in small doses. It is a game changer for Jung Hai In, who becomes a serious actor here. His prior projects, supporting roles and documentary seemed light weight by comparison. He even looks different. He doesn’t have that boyish cute look here. As far as his career goes, this should serve him well. It also reminds me of American military films like Platoon. The individual must be suppressed for the good of the group. Great for sociology/psychology lectures but not casual viewing.

  38. @packmule3, I love Jeon Do Yeon in A Man And A woman (not to be confused with the French film,) with Gong Yoo. The movie was tragic but it had some great erotic scenes between the two (one in a Finnish sauna in the woods) that I’ve rewound. She lifted Gong Yoo’s performance. I think he took the movie to act with her. It was a good decision for him. The two also depicted the struggles parents of children with special needs have as well as how those struggles impact on marriage. I recommend it for serious viewing but it is by no means an escapem
    .

  39. I agree, @Old American Lady. Kudos to Jung HaeIn for his performance in this drama.

I’ve always thought he couldn’t be milking his babyface forever (isn’t he 33 years old already??) so this was a great role for him. I liked the ending when he realized that the deserter’s death was on them, and burst out of that apathetic bubble he was in. Good emotions.

  40. @PM3, @agdr03, @grace, @fern – assignment complete! Posted list of episodes and kisses on YAMG. I put it on the YAMG thread. Ep25 has the most. Happy Sunday!!!

  41. I am watching Red Sky. I will try to finish HP2, even though I am bored with it. At this point I only care about Jung Kyung Ho’s character.
I will wait a little before I decide on Cha Cha Cha.
I finished Racket Boys and think about starting Move to Heaven. I am also watching two classic older dramas, The Moon Embracing The Sun (Korean) and Nirvana In Fire (Chinese).
    Looking forward to Mt. Jiri.

  42. @Snow Flower, our Racket Boy star(also a puppy in CLOY) Tang Joon-sang,age 18,, did a remarkable job as the ASD son inMove To Heaven. If you want a healing drama, I recommend Move to Heaven. And this kid is so talented. I will certainly follow him in his future endeavors.

  43. DP was really great but certainly not an easy watch. Jung Hae-In always chose dramas with interesting themes, not the typical rich and cold ML.

Human Disqualification won’t be easy neither, but I really like the actors except Son Na-Eun, since she started to act, she didn’t really become better, she wasn’t good in Diner Mate…

Racket Boys was one of my favourite of 2021. Normal kids acting like normal kids! It’s so rare :p

  44. @pm3 good to see you back, and yes, HP2 juju is a very real concept, thanks for bringing it to light 😂

None of those dramas catch my intrigue, but I wish Ahn Bo Hyun the best with Yumi’s Cell. Have watched and loved him in Itaewon Class and how much ever I saw of him in Her Private Life (on indefinite hold, mehh too cheesy).

@Miracle23 oooo hope we meet again in the Mount Jiri threads, unnie ♥️ I’m most excited for that drama this year, I think it will air sometime next month or in November. I’m excited to see their pairing, although I think I read somewhere that it is low on romance.

@OAL Jung Hae In gives off his Prison Playbook character vibes in DP, I liked him in PP, so I will give DP a go as well. Also, agree with the RB main lead, a very promising young talent. After seeing him in Move to Heaven, when I saw the first shot of his in RB, I was floored 😍 He’s nailed both characters. Hope he picks his projects very carefully.

  45. D.P. should have a free therapy session included. I’m really curious how it has been received in Korea. It had me playing soul asylum’s run away train in my head as an ear worm. It wasn’t used in the show but the angst of the show matched the most depressing song ever. JHI was great at portraying his disillusionment. Interesting to see how Netflix expansion in Korea influences the type of stories that get told.

  46. Good Twin> I think it was well received in Korea. It was in top 1 on Netflix Korea.

Otherwise, the Japanese drama Black Cincederlla was cute. It’s a short drama with a healthy love triangle where both male leads are nice and respect each other. So it did not prevent me from having a second lead syndrom, but I liked it, it was cute.

  47. @GoodTwin, DP is a rave (in a good way) in Korea right now. Many guys remembered their times when they were in military service back then and things like in the drama did happen. One of YYS’s junior during military recently dropped a msg at his yt channel. He wrote his experience exercising with yys and yys always been an example back then and how yys is always like an angel in the eyes of the juniors. Many ppl are reminiscing their experience following released of this drama. A very good reception in Korea 😉

@Dashman1010, minor romance plot is #1 criteria for my drama pick. Worry not! 😉 I am thinking of making a cheat for Kim Min Jae but Lee Honey x Lee Sang Yoon in One The Woman looks more delirious fun, mature pairing, and more my preference. Min Jae ya… mian 😅😅😅

At the moment, I am still working on getting rid of this stuffy chest and nauseousness whenever I think of tuning in to a new kdrama. Dang, HP2 really ruins my thought on kdrama narratives in general. I need to reset and refresh soon. Gotta be ready for JJH and Mt Jiri, & Lee Honey too😁

  48. @Miracle23 oooo just read the synopsis for One The Woman, looks interesting. I will give it 1-2 episodes before deciding whether to watch or not 🙂 Both actors are new to me so that definitely adds to the excitement — it also starts on Sept. 17th, like Yumi’s Cell hahaha

I’m with you on developing a general distaste for kdramas due to HP2, only selecting Mt. Jiri for now, everything else I will pass until something catches my eye.

  49. Thank you also for sharing the YYS anecdote connected to DP, makes the watch a bit more realistic for me 😌🍪

  50. @Dashman1010, OTW’s story might sound too common a trope – I think I have heard of a similar one long before 🤷‍♀️ but because it will be Lee Honey going bonkers, I am looking forward to a fun watch 🤭🤭🤭 She stole my heart in Fiery Priest and Shine or Go Crazy. Love her strong characters. 🥰

I am currently watching a Netflix series, Never Have I Ever… Devi’s mom looks like my unimate and she is 👍👍👍👍 😂😂😂😂 Loving her remarks when she scolds her daugther. 😆😆😆

  51. @Miracle23 oh nice! I have heard so much about that series, but I am well past teen dramas so, pass xD I know the mum you’re talking about though, have seen her in a few other Bollywood movies, she’s really good. I happened to see the trailer of that series and wasn’t comfortable with the weird accent they stuck on her and her beau (that guy, Sendhil Ramamurthy, he is quite a popular American Indian actor as well, very talented, he seems to be under-utilised in this series) — but that’s par for the course for any English-directed Indian dramas (Bend It Like Beckham, The Namesake, Slumdog Millionaire, etc. etc.).

Hope you enjoy the series though! xD I recently finished The Chair on Netflix with Sandra Oh, definitely recommend for a super-light watch 😀 You can never go wrong with Sandra Oh 😌

  52. @Dashman1010, yeah the teenagers’ love stories are a pass🤣🤣🤣.. .. I watching to see how she handles her trauma with regard to her dad’s death. Getting a bf is her escape route atm. And she got emotionally unstable. Insecurities brought in a lot of trouble for her. They turns to lies, rumors etc.

I might take a look at The Chair later 😉

  53. @Miracle23 So are #TeamBen or #TeamDaxton then 😜

  54. are *you

    (sorry)

  55. #Paxton!!!!! “It has always been him” lol This reminded me of that old movies, Ten Things I Hate About You and She’s All That… kekekeke… The only teenagers romcom I watched looooooong time before and can still remember …. Gosh I feel so old huhuhuhu

  56. Never Have I Ever was pretty funny. But I was kinda disapointed by the second season.

  57. @Sayaris, I actually cheated last night. I went to yt and was spoiled 🤣🤣🤣 So, I am hopping on other witty series next. 🤭🤭🤭

  58. @Miracle23 Both classic evergreen movies, of course a bit dated by today’s standards, but they had such simple storytelling and great acting. Also, Heath Ledger 😭❤️ Don’t feel old, unnie, feel wise 😈

Good to know you’re on Paxton’s side, I think TeamBen is the rage atm though hahahaha

  59. @Miracle23> I was happy with Paxton but my issue was that she didn’t really choose him because she likes him but he was the first one to forgive her. If Ben forgave her before Paxton, I’m pretty sure she would have ended with him…

  60. My kdrama schedule is actually just light right now. Currently watching Police academy, Hospital playlist and Hometown Cha.

    Looking forward to:
    – Squid game (Netflix Sep 17), about a survival game show, where you have to be the last person alive to get the prize money. Quite similar to Netflix’s “Alice in Borderland” whose manga was inspired by the Japanese action thriller movie “Battle Royale”.

And a lot of the others mentioned; Mount Jiri, Yumi Cells, Dali and Cocky Prince.

I’m currently still not ready for slice of life dramas that seem too deep and mellow so will skip Lost but I gave D.P a chance because it was only 6 episodes and it was great.

Will eventually watch Nam Da Reum’s drama when it’s completed. Also might try Lovers of the Red Sky but I’m not the biggest fan of both leads so it hasn’t been a priority.

  61. @Old American Lady, I started Revolutionary Sisters but didn’t continue because the characters weren’t likable. I’m not saying they weren’t written well: I suspect their unsympathetic actions and words were specifically created to evoke that response from viewers. I just wasn’t in the mood to invest so much time in characters I wouldn’t want to spend time with in real life. That said, do you recommend it? I’ve only watched the first three episodes. Also, where did you stream A Man and a Woman? I haven’t been able to find it available on any of my usual streaming services.

  62. I’ve finished You Are My Glory and generally liked it. The inside views of acting and aerospace were interesting. Seeing Yang Yang play a randy male lead was…um…stimulating. Any other comments I have about YAMG I’ll put on its thread.

After finishing You Are My Spring (Excellent! I highly recommend it!), Netflix recommended to me My Shy Boss (Introverted Boss) from 2017 because Yoon Park is also in it. https://www.netflix.com/watch/81267653?trackId=13752289 I watched the show to see Yoon Park in a less-dark role (although his character is not all good in MSB). I had to be patient through the first two episodes because they didn’t appeal to me as much as I’d hoped, but by the third episode the show hit its stride and got better from there. Even though the plot centers around a suicide, it isn’t a depressing show. The guilt, loss, and anger felt by the survivors is respectfully portrayed as their lives continue and their understanding increases. Even though I do count it a strike against the show that tries to normalize employer-employee romance, I recognize in Kdramas that is a trope. The show levels the field between the couple by making the boss very needy, and by depicting the employee group as intentionally lacking hierarchy.

I’m currently watching in real time Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Lovers of the Red Sky. In between releases of new episodes of those shows, I’m watching 2017’s Live Up to Your Name. https://www.netflix.com/watch/81167139?trackId=13752289 At first I was turned off by the clownish behavior of the male lead and stopped watching, but went back and gave it a second chance. Without giving away too much of the plot, I can promise that the male lead has a dynamic role, allowing the actor to portray a wide range of emotions. I’ve not seen any of Kim Nam Gil’s other work, so I’m now encouraged to watch him in The Fiery Priest.

Depending on how my mood goes, I may join others in watching Yumi’s Cells or Dali and the Cocky Prince. There are actors in both shows that I’ve liked in their previous work.

  63. @Welmaris, Revolutionary Sisters isn’t a recommendation I would make. It’s a slice of life drama that requires a big commitment (over 50 episodes) and lots of repetition. I think they are revolutionary because they operate outside of the Korean family norms. Don’t waste your time.

I saw the 2016 movie, A Man and A Woman, on Amazon Prime. If you Google it, it shows on Asian Crush (frustrating to watch because of frequent ads),YouTube, and Netflix (not in my location). You’ll find a serious Gong Yoo here with a great understated Jeon Do Yeon. It would probably be viewed as an arthouse film. Let me know if you succeed in finding it. It was filmed in Korea and Finland. You’ll feel cold in the snow.

If you want to see a great rom com movie starring the wonderful Moon Chae won and Yoo Yeon_sook (a worthy pairing) see Mood of The Day. It’s a train trip from Seoul to Busan(no zombies). I saw it on Amazon but if you Google it you may find it on more services. I’d love to see them paired on a K Drama. They are comparable if not better than Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. (This movie made me a fan of theirs. Moon Chae-wan has not dusappointed-she was outstanding in Flower if Evil
But YYS has been a let down in HPL one and two.) Hope this helps.

  64. @Welmaris, I loved Live Up To Your Name. The contrast between Joseon and Modern medicine and the accupuncture story was so great. Of course modern hospital politics was included. @Welmaris, Like @pm3, I like and follow your recommendations. I don’t go wrong with them
. Where do I find You Are My Glory? Have been following the discussion and I’m super tempted.

  65. @OAL, you can find You Are My Glory at https://wetv.vip/en

Where did you find the 2016 Gong Yoo film A Man and a Woman?

  66. @OAL, oops. I didn’t see your earlier comment. I have seen Mood of the Day and enjoyed it. As for Gong Yoo’s A Man and a Woman, I’m having no luck finding it. Amazon Prime tells me it is currently unavailable in my area (which is USA). I’ve checked all your other suggestions, to no avail.

  67. @Welmaris, found it on Amazon Prime but if you goof
Glenn the movie name it is elsewhere.

  68. @Welmaris,I’m sorry it isn’t available. I hope they return that movie. I think you can get the steamy scenes if you YouTube the name but you won’t get the full movie. These streaming services bring back these movies from time to time. Keep it on your back burner/ wish list. I learned about it watching promotional videos on YouTube. Ever since I discovered Asian content, but especially Korean dramas and movies I’ve watched fewer American, European offerings. There’s so much out there to be discovered. And tomy great surprise, one of my friends has actually tried K Dramas and enjoyed them. Woo hoo.

  69. I remembered that there were a lot who mentioned Mount Jiri here. So for those who were interested in Mount Jiri, just saw an article that it will be released on October and the title was changed to “Cliffhanger”.

Here’s also a link to the teaser:
    https://youtu.be/dqRbb_JR0dU

  70. @Welmaris @OAL I love A Man and A Woman by my two fav Korean actors/actress. Here where I live, I’ve watched it in Mubi. https://mubi.com/films/a-man-and-a-woman-2016

I don’t know if you can open it in your area. I hope you could.

  71. Mount Jiri looks interesting, jwave. Thanks.

  72. @Jwave, yes! I am hopping on that Cliffhanger train! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have been waiting for Ju Ji Hoon after Hyena. He rarely disappoint. Can’t wait!! And One the Woman is coming up this Friday. Plus, YYS and Olga’s movie, Vanishing, will premiere at BIFF next month! I am a one happy bunny. 😁😁😁

  73. I had to laugh at the name of the drama “Cliffhanger.” Because it’s all about mountaineers and park rangers involved in mountain rescue??

  74. @packmule3, 🤭🤭🤭 Will each ep end with a person hanging on a cliff, need saving? 😁😁😁

  75. @BulmaGoku, no luck with Mubi. I can open the service, but it tells me the film isn’t available in my area. That’s the problem I’m having with all the other streaming services.

  76. @Welmaris, I think that these movies come and go on the various streaming services. Netflix is removing a lot of Asian content now to make room(sort of) for other movies, dramas. It will come back. Keep it in the b a ck of your mind. Some content may also be ona pay wall like Apple or Hulu. I just wait because we have so many things to view.

I also want 5o see Mt. Jiri/C,infringer. I love the leads. So more to look forward to….

  77. @Miracle23 Oohh. I was not able to watch Ju Ji Hoon yet but I would give this a try. It seems interesting and I like mystery. I am also looking forward to watching One the Woman. Seems like it will be a fun watch. I’m glad we have several interesting shows to look forward to. We need it to get over our HP2 stress 😅

  78. Count me in for Cliffhanger, it seems interesting.
@Welmaris, meanwhile, I’ll watch Dali and the cocky prince. Not sure 100% about Yumi’s cell, maybe I’ll watch a few episodes.

  79. @jwave, yeay! I will watch OTW tomorrow as soon as the sub is available. 😁😁😁 where is @dashman1010? She better join us 🤭🤭🤭

I am gonna take a look at The Veil with Sn and probably Squid game later… right now I am dragging my SIL to watch Fated to Love You. And she is hooked 🤭🤭🤭 Jang Hyuk is superb crazy but also very charming in melo scenes. Ok miracle, stop it 🤭🤭🤭

  80. @Miracle23 Oohhh!! I’m also interested in The Veil! I’m looking for action dramas lately and I somehow like the lead actor 🤭 Wow. There are just so many interesting shows this month. I hope my schedule can keep up. Lol. And yess, @dashman1010, join us! Let’s find something to put our good mood back 😂

I have never watched Fated to Love You in full but I have watched some random clips in youtube. I think what stops me is the angst. Lol. Lately I want to watch something light. Or it can also be mystery or action since there won’t be too much emotional drama 😁

  81. Out of the shows mentioned above I will definitely start The Red Sky (only waiting till I got home in a few days and better internet acess bc as I see from the comments the show both requires and motivates to lots of rewatching). After the HP2 fiasco I’m in a need of something tottally different, ie. a good sageuk and in the meantime I’m rewatching some eps of Queen for seven days which is one of my all time favourites.

I completed YAMG and I’m still on withdrawal syndrome and rewatching. I liked it very much.

I watched The battle of Changsha almost to the end (I have 6 eps left I think, it’s aviable subbed on YT, at least the twenty something eps that I watched). Usually I avoid war films and dramas bc of the tragic events depicted but I gave it a chance bc of Wallace Huo whom I liked in Love me if you dare, and although the plot is tragic indeed I liked most of the characters and the historic events depicted were very interesting bc I’m not that familiar with Sino-Japanese wars). The FL was rather too childish (I know she’s 16 in the beginning of the series but still, and her brother… but still there were many interesting and well written characters and a touching message abt differences between the older and younger generations and responsibility towards one’s family and the country. I liked it also that the characters were quite ambiguous and shady, not everything was black or white).

I’m interested in Cliffhanger, but I’m not sure if I can watch it in real time, maybe I’ll out it on hold and start when it’s nearing towards its end. But I’m totally in for another Ju Ji Hoon drama bc I loved him in Hyena (and Kim Hye So as well).

@OAL I loved In the mood for love as well. It’s one of my favourite korean rom com films of all time. I’ve seen it several times already.
If I was to recommend another that I liked it would be the one called P.S. Partner (or Watcha wearin’) from 2012 with Ji Sung and Kim Ah Jong. (P.S. stands for phone sex) Maybe it’s not for everybody’s taste bc it has some explicite scenes. But I really liked it just bc of its more realistic approach to love and sex than in Korean dramas where the girl is supposed to be juvenile and shy and pure, the guy as well. Although the premise itself is a little bit of a stretch (the FL wants to spice up her dull relationship but ends up calling a stranger who still cannot forget abt his ex), the plot is really fresh and interesting.

  82. @Linnea,

Wallace Huo is gorgeous. Like you, I liked him in “Love Me If You Dare” and when I saw “Battle of Changsha on YouTube, I was immediately drawn to him. I’ve to sit down and watch it. I told you, right? His face is the type that I like. Weathered, chiseled, squarish, with a strong jaw.

    Plus, he doesn’t smile.

I dislike men who smile to all and sundry.

  83. @Jwave, Jang Hyuk is on crack 80% in the drama😅😅😅 It was a joyride for me cos he is just crazy fun with them. but his angst moments are what I love most. The angst will be later, much later … when he was in that mood i cried too.😭 Ok. Stop it😂😂.. but then he will go crazy again, so I am back to a fun ride 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Namgoongmin of The Veil is one great acting talent out there! Injeong! 🤭🤭🤭🤭 love him in Chief Kim.

  84. @Packmule3 yes, I couldn’t agree more!

  85. Hi @Linnea, I loved Wha cha wearing. It was so good. I love Ji Sung. At some point I’ll watch his latest but I have so many shows in my queue that I have no idea when I’ll get to it. I also like to follow along with at least one or two dramas 5hat BOD is watching. The real time discussions are just too good to miss. I am so happy that we are through with HPL2. As they say in American TV show parlance,,they are shows that have lost their edge, “it jumped the shark” that means the use of a gimmick o r unlikely occurrence desperately attempting to keep viewers’ interest, where writers have exhausted their focus, where the show has strayed irretrievably from an older and better formula, or that the series has declined in quality. Usually this happens in multiyear series but it happened in season one episode 12 in HPL. The Soompi sycophants are pulling for Season 3. Given the mess they made of this series, I can’t see them pulling it out in a third season. The variety show might be fun. At least the actors won’t be in character and we can actually hear the beautiful singing voice that belongs to Jeon Mido.

I am interested in One The Woman.i like Honey Lee, in a dual role with Lee Sang-Yoon in what sounds like a comedy of errors. I need something light. But right now I’m watching along with HometownCha Cha Cha.

  86. @jwave, Yes to The Veil. Another really intriguing show. Namgoong Min can do no wrong. I love espionage dramas with moles. I guess my to watch list is going to keep on growing. I think this one will be absorbing. Koreans do certain genres very eell. They are fantastic doing noir. And they do political intrigue well. This will be my serious watch.

  87. I’ll watch “The Veil” as well, for much the same reasons given by @Old American Lady. I’ve begun to watch “GO into your Heart” and I’ve been drawn in completely. At the beginning, both the FL and the ML are a bit precious/silly for my taste, but they’re getting better – I think? It’s the supporting cast which takes this drama to a level very much out of the ordinary. I realise now that GO is not the Asian version of Chess.

  88. @Juriel, I am also watching GO into Your Heart and enjoying it. It is fluffy because the characters border on cartoonish, but I don’t mind because I accept that it’s not trying to be realistic. The actor who plays the wannabe GO student who is courting the older sister has excellent comedy chops: he completely won me over when he parked the scooter by the restaurant window and joined the other couple at their meal. Warning: Don’t be drinking anything while watching this scene or you might end up laughing it out your nose. He was also hilarious when he drove up to his rival with earphones in, bopping to music; when the rival, done having his say, pushed the earphone back into his ear, he went right back to his bopping. I wonder how many takes they had to do before they could complete this scene without dissolving into laughter.

The male lead isn’t given much opportunity to emote with this role. It must be by direction, because in the live-action GO game sequences his face is much more expressive. At least he’s good looking even when stone faced. And I can’t help myself: I’ve dubbed this show Harry Potter and the GO Board.

  89. I just finished OTW and Lee Honey is just awesome good!!! The mystery from the getgo. I don’t believe Yeon Jo would devour bribes without motive and Mina would stand being mentally abuse in that household. And I am super glad they both have hidden motives towards same company. Are they twin?? Lee Sang Yoon 😍😍😍😍😍

  90. Nice review @Welmaris. Thanks.

I’ll transfer your post over to the “GO into Your Heart” thread when I get home. Trying to get my last tan of the summer. 🏖

  91. @Miracle,23, Am so happy OTW is good-,looking forward to it.

  92. @packmule3, Use sunscreen.

  93. @Miracle23 @OAL @jwave yesssss I am on the OTW hype train. After rubbish HP2, I needed this comedy/mystery/crime/makjang-lite drama mishmash. I’ve watched ep. 1 subbed and ep. 2 unsubbed (didn’t understand too much), but ep. 1 was great! Really like what I’m seeing of Lee Honey, and the ML is swoonworthy 😍 And OMG THEY BOTH HAVE DIMPLES AAAAAA 😍 /fangirlMode

Kang Mina looks like a wolf in sheep’s clothing kind of character to me, and I think between Mina and Yeonjoo, I can see 3-4 shades of Lee Honey’s acting in the pilot episode itself, and I’m thoroughly impressed. ML hasn’t shown much yet, but hopefully subbed ep. 2 will help me understand his motives better.

All in all, I’m going to tune into this drama for sure. TY for the rec, @Miracle23 🍪

  94. @Welmaris: Thank you for your very interesting comments. I haven’t arrived at the restaurant scene yet, but I am already imagining it with considerable anticipation.
I always relish a touch of Noona romance, and this one is handled very well, with its presentation of the two very contrasting males butting heads, while the female calmly watches in a sort of Apollonian amusement. This actor is very good indeed.
I like your reference to Harry Potter; it works rather well, and not just because actor Nui Jun Feng’s more mature looks balance Harry’s juvenile owl-eyed naivete but also because the Harry Potter films would definitely lend themselves to a technical re-working, calling in the marvelous CGI effects used in “GO into your Heart”.
I play Chess, and have had a serious try-out at Mahjong. Now I must find a local someone who may be willing to learn GO with me. There seems not to be a local club.

  95. @Juriel,

After Reply 1988, I bought myself a Go set. To me, the philosophy is different. Chess, you attack the enemy. Like hand to hand combat. In Go, you surround and trap the enemy and wait it out. That’s the pithy explanation.

  96. In chess you capture the leader or make him surrender
In go you capture the space

  97. @packmule3,I watched Lee Dong Wooks variety show called something like Because I Want to Talk, that I think is on Viki now. He had one guest for the entire show. One of his shows had a world renowned Baduk(Koreanfor Go) player/master. It was a fascinating interview. The player, as I remember, was very modest and informative. Lee was a very respectful interviewer. I don’t think this show was a hit in !Orleans, apart from the two Gkng Yoo shows because the topics could be viewed as esoteric. But for me, it was a lot of fun. It might be of interest to BOD.

And one other drama that is short form(8 episodes of 45 minutes each), You Raise Me Up. It’s about a h ounce guy with erectile dysfunction who goes to a urologist who is his first love. The guy is also very depressed and is a shadow of hi s former high school self. His first love has been touting him based on her memories to her insufferable boyfriend, a psychiatrist. When the psychiatrist, refers our hero back to the urologist, the jug is up for her. She then sets out to restore our hero to his former self(more out of pride for herself and to get back at her boyfriend than out of feelings for her ex). I’ve watched two episodes am
ND though I don’t think it’s a broad comedy rom com, I do find it affecting. I don’t know the actors, but the lead male, Yoon Shi Yoon is very good. He definitely allows himself to be physically and emotionally humiliated_u n like other actors who would find this role an affront to his image. Viki will dole this out over I think four weeks, so those of us with time commitments may find this suitable. So far, I don’t find this show gratuitous.

Lastly, I am so happy that we are seeing so much e x cellent new content out there. In other seasons, our last disappointing view might be the star dramabut at this juncture, there is lots of competition and more to come with blockbuster talent. Am smi.ing right now.

And @packmule3, this old Jewish mother is nagging you to wear lots of sunscreen(it’s in my DNA).

  98. @Janey, another warning about our comic second-second male lead in GO: watch out for the nose on the window. I’m glad I’d already swallowed my sip of tea…

Episode 19, so you can be prepared.

  99. September watch:

    Dramas

    D.P. – binged in a day

Squid Game – binged in a day and a half

Lovers of the Red Sky – binged during WFH for 4 days to catch up then had to wait for 5 and 6 like a normal person. 🙂

    Non-dramas

    Valeria Season 2

    Sex Education Season 3

Dune and Children of Dune mini series – in preparation for Dune theatrical experience in October (unlike lucky European fans, we in North America have to wait til next month)

  100. @Welmaris – LOL I saw that! His antics always makes her laugh vs embarrassed, which is a good sign! I’m caught up to ep25 sub and waiting for the raw (up to 34 now) to be subbed.

@PM3 – finished reading up on your Love 020 posts (80++!!!) and enjoyed it so much, including the comments of @agr03 and @Phoenix. I probably watched it the same time as you did but I have not discovered BoD yet. I hope you’ll show the same love to YAMG and shower us with many GIFs.

Since I’m into the fluff Cdrama roll, I saw that you also had a slew of posts on “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” which got prompted in my Netflix watchlist. Hahaha, AI has figured me out already!

I also started Yumi’s cells and will continue to cha cha cha with HC3!

    Happy watching to all!!!

  101. @Welmaris
I’ve got up to the restaurant scene, and thanks for the prior warning. The nose on the window, and that entire sequence – utterly hilarious. This actor (Zhu Zia Qui?) is a genuine comic of the Chaplin/Costello type.

Thinking about his appearance in Episode 19 when he finds his way into Pinecone Video building, why is it that he sets all the women in the meeting room giggling, while all the men, especially his rival, are sitting there po-faced, hoping Security will arrive soon?

  102. Kalimera Ladies!

As you all know, I am watching: “The Lovers of the Red Sky”.
I started watching: “Yumi’s Cells” and I am thinking to give a try to: “Dali and the cocky Prince”.

The thing is that I want to watch “HC3”, but I am thinking to binge watch it when it ends.

I have heard pretty good stuff about “The Veil”.
As for “Jirisan” is in my tbh list for October.

I have also started: “It’s okay, that’s love”, because it will be on Netflix until the end of September. I like it so far. The story is well written.

To be honest with you, I prefer to watch light stories these days and there are days I don’t want to watch anything. So, I go with the flow.

P.S. As for the C-Drama you are watching I am might watch that. It seems funny!

  103. @Miracle23 @dashman1010 Was just able to watch OTW and I had some good laugh. Lee Honey was good! I’ve only seen her in a wacky role before so her acting as Yeonjoo was not surprising to me but I was surprised to see her acting demure as Mina. The aura she exudes for the characters were so different that you can easily tell which is which. Also looking forward to more scenes with Lee Sang Yoon. Lol.

I found the actor playing Mina’s husband familiar so I decided to look him up and was so surprised to find out that he’s actually the actor playing Ha Ram’s bodyguard in LotRS! Lol. The two characters are so different from each other that I did not notice they were actually played by the same actor.

  104. Howdy! 👋🏻

Rosy has a new drama coming out on September 22, it’s called A Female Student Arrives at The Imperial College. I tried to look for a subbed trailer but I couldn’t find any. I’m definitely watching it though. I haven’t watched this Ml before.

    https://youtu.be/d1_oxQPFhL8

  105. @Janey, I’m glad you enjoyed the posts about LoveO2O. @Phoenix, Queen and I had a blast during those days. It was memorable and fun! The Art of Hickey! 😜

  106. Apart from Hometown Cha Cha Cha, I’m also watching Midnight Diner now. Midnight Diner is a Japanese drama which aired a few years back. I wonder if you guys had seen it before? 🙂 The show consists of I think 12 episodes, and each episode is just less than 25 minutes long. The show’s main character is an unnamed chef who owns a very small midnight diner, and each episode revolves around the “slice of life” of the motley cast of regulars that frequent the diner. The show also features one Japanese dish per episode, so it’s like JDrama x lifestyle food show. 🤤

I watch Midnight Diner after having seen Izakaya Bottakuri, which is a show that aired years after Midnight Diner and followed the same format. The difference is that the motley cast of characters in Izakaya Bottakuri are all so healingly wholesome. ❤ I *LOVED* Izakaya Bottakuri, and I am hoping to enjoy Midnight Diner now, too. 🙂

  107. @Agdr03 – yes! The Art of Hickey and kiss analyses were top notch!

@Pandamilktea – Midnight Diner is good! Quite a different format tying up food and life stories. I’ve watched it a while back but I can still remember some episodes. Itadakimasu!

  108. To all who observe a holiday at this time of year: happy Chuseok, happy Chinese Harvest Festival, etc. I’d be interested to learn what my BoD friends around the world do to celebrate during the harvest moon. I married into a Chinese family, so we’ll try to get together for a meal at a Chinese restaurant. I also hope to shop at a Chinese grocery store for moon cakes. Our observances will be small, because here in the USA it’s not a public holiday so folks have to work as usual and students have to attend school.

  109. Thanks for the reminder, @Welmaris! I forgot my Asia work counterparts are off until Tuesday.

Happy Chuseok, happy mid- autumn festival, happy Chinese harvest festival, happy moon cake festival to all those who celebrate it!!!
Enjoy the family time and lots of food.
    Cheers!

  110. Hi @Welmaris and @Janey,To those I f you celebrating Chuseok, Chinese Harvest festival and Moon Cake Festival, please have a joyous time.

I don’t think there are any Jewish people here, besides me, but we are also in a period of holiday observance. We have come through the Days of awe, which started with the Jewish New Year and ended with Yom Kippur, when we atone for our sins, fast and reflect upon our lives and pray to be incribed in the book of life. Immediately following these introspective and solemn observances, we come to The festival of Succoth. It too is a harvest festival where we also commemorate our wanderings in the desert when we ate in booths. These are called succahs and they are open at the roof that is covered in branches. All meals are taken there. The succahs are also decorated with flowers, plants, gourds.it is customary to feed guests. I think that it is significant that there is a universality of harvest festivals at this time and that we also use a lunar calender. And because there have been Jewish people in far flung places like Suriname,Thessaloniki, Buenos Aires,,Yemen, Budapest, Melbourne, and Harbin, customs do vary.

So to all celebrating the harvest, no matter where they be, may you have abundance in the coming year.

  111. I’m glad that harvest celebrations of various sorts still exist all across the world, and thank you to @Old American Lady, @Welmaris and @Janey for your very interesting comments on the topic.
In my young days, the communities I lived in in England always celebrated the Harvest Festival. The date was on the Sunday nearest to the harvest moon (the full moon in September) and as near as possible to Michaelmas Day (the feast of Saint Michael).
Our celebration was the gradual decorating of the church through the week before. Sheaves of wheat were brought in, fruit, any local produce of any sort, wonderful large bread sculptures, and the Sunday School children were always given the job of stringing crab apples and hanging festoons of them anywhere they were allowed to.
There were also a few special hymns for Harvest Home which we tended not to sing during the rest of the year.
An associated delicious food like Chinese mooncakes never developed, though – alas.
The festival is celebrated here in Australia, particularly in the agricultural communities, naturally with some differences and on a lesser scale, but it’s still around.

  112. Great additional info @Juriel and @OAL! It seems that harvest festivals connect us all over the globe and it’s fascinating. It’s like a thanksgiving for the bounty of the land. Interesting that US has thanksgiving but with a different timing (and different intent). I read that Native Americans celebrate Autumn equinox with fall harvest also. If their culture were honored then and made to to flourish, US would have been celebrating the same harvest festival and holiday, too like a lot of the other cultures.

  113. OMG, I started watching Squid Game in Netflix and it’s a shocker! Not for the faint hearted. But I can’t seem to stop. All
    Episodes (9) are in.

  114. Happy Chuseok or Harvest Moon or whatever else you are celebrating Ladies @Welmaris!
I am celebrating the Autumn Equinox as well @Janey. I will pay my respects to the Eleysinian Mysteries.

  115. @Janey, I finished Squid Game last Sunday… the real plot twist 🤭🤭🤭 ShinLee can’t relate🤪

  116. When my daughters were in primary school (in the UK) they always celebrated Harvest festival in early October. A collection of fresh produce and non-perishable items were collected and brought to the church to distribute and there was a big assembly at the school for relatives. There were songs, as @Juriel said. (I will never get Cauliflowers Fluffy song out of my head.)

The secondary school I worked at hosted a tea and coffee morning for the elderly in the area. A request was put forth for home-baked cakes and biscuits. It was a popular event.

Happy Harvest, Chuseok, Sukkoth, Equinox and all other related festivals!

  117. I am going to watch it
It made #1 on Netflix most popular shows in the US today, I think a first for Korean content!

  118. Even I am intrigued with Squid Game. It’s been on top 10 ever since it released in my country, plus Gong Yoo is the rave even with a cameo. Now that’s a name ShinLee can benefit working with 🤭

P.S. is there any blood and gore in it @miracle23?

  119. @dashman1010… too gory… the netflix rating i.e. violence etc. applies. There is another unexpected cameo. Clue: One of my oldtime bias. Maybe AOL can guess this 🤭🤭🤭

  120. @miracle23 oh nooooo, I can’t watch too much gore 🙁 Guess I’ll have to skip this one then. I wanna know who the other cameo appearance is now 😮 (please spill @OAL ❤️)

  121. I just finished D.P. tonight. For some reason I thought it was ten episodes long, so watched five yesterday, then the sixth and (to my surprise) final episode tonight. What? That’s the end? Dang! That’s a blow to the gut. Especially the epilogue (?) that’s shown partway through the ending credits. I think ShinLee should watch this Kdrama and take notes on how to tell a tight, focused story.

  122. @Welmaris I did not realize DP has an epilogue!! Thanks for mentioning! I had to check it again and wow. It was just short but it made me hold my breath.

  123. Hi, I clueless about the cameo
    I gave to watch
    So sorry
