Business Proposal: Episode 2 My Takes

Do you know that my favorite sitcom is “Seinfeld”? Three reasons I can watch the reruns over and over on Youtube and still find them funny is because:

a. the catchphrases are spot on. The screenwriters have coined words and phrases that have become part of modern-day lexicon. Like “soup nazi,” “shrinkage,” “Master of my domain,” “double dipper,” and “re-gifter.”

b. it spotlights one annoying personality trait per episode in a witty and humorous way. It’s hard for a viewer to be judgmental when the characters are designed to be flawed to make fun of human foibles.

c. it’s a show about nothing.

Episode 2 of “Business Proposal” reminded me of Seinfeld.

1. The catchphrase: archaeopteryx

I laughed when Hari called Taemoo an “archaeopteryx.”

Taemoo: I’m still going to marry you.
Hari: What?
Taemoo: So tell me why you don’t want to marry me.
Hari: I don’t like everything about you. I don’t like how cheesy your weird lines are and how your face looks like an archaeopteryx.

This is the first time I’ve heard that a guy’s visual resembles an archaeopteryx. It’s funnier than Gong Yoo being compared to a generic dinosaur. Now every time I see this actor Ahn Hyoseop, I’m going to think of this Jurassic carnivorous bird.

Naming him as “archaeopteryx” on her phone was a gutsy move considering he didn’t like it.

Hari: Are you still mad?
Taemoo: In what way, do I look like an archaeopteryx?

Hari: Sorry? Oh! Is that why you’re angry?
Taemoo: It’s not that I’m angry, it’s just that I’ve never heard such nonsense before, so I was caught off-guard, yes.

It’s a good sign when he was piqued by her criticism.

Hari: Oh that? I just said whatever popped into my head because I wanted you to stop asking me to marry you.
Taemoo: Whatever popped into your head?
Hari: (proud of herself) But the resemblance is there. Your small face, your sharp eyes, and your lanky limbs. No one has ever told you that?
Taemoo: Didn’t I just tell you that I’ve never heard of it before.
Hari: Oh right. I’m sorry.

Despite knowing that he resented being called an archaeopteryx, she still chose it as his contact name.

The special effects of the bird surfacing from her phone whenever he called her up was funny.

2. The chase scene

This had me laughing because he supposedly won a “gold medal at the Amateur National Track and Field Championships” but he couldn’t catch up to her. And she was running with just one slipper on.

Speaking of slippers, had Cinderella’s Prince Charming chased relentlessly after her like TaeMoo chased after Hari, then he wouldn’t have had to search for Cinderella all over the kingdom to return her glass slippers.

But I do wonder how long the screenwriter will continue this rigmarole of her secret identity.

Taemoo: This slipper belongs to you, doesn’t it? I’m asking you why you threw this at me.
Hari: (softly) I didn’t mean to. It was a mistake. I slipped.
Taemoo: (spots her ID) Ms. Shin Hari. I can’t hear a word you’re saying.
Hari: (shouting) I didn’t mean to. It was a mistake. I slipped. I’m sorry.
Taemoo: Then why did you run?

She couldn’t admit that she was afraid he’d recognize her face so she gave another excuse. Thankfully, she was quick-thinking.

Hari: Nosebleed. I was surprised because your nose was bleeding. I’m sorry.

He was studying her face and saw sweat dropping on to her sock. He bent down and put her other slipper in front of her. This is the Prince Charming trope.

Taemoo: Put it on. The Bucket List Fish was your work, right?
Hari: Yes.

I like that he tried to make her feel at ease. He saw her sweating and assumed that she was intimidated by him because he was the President whom she just hit with her slipper. So he engaged in small talk with her.

Taemoo: And the vegetarian dumplings campaign too, right?
Hari: Yes. (then realizes something) Huh? That proposal wasn’t ever approved. How did you—
Taemoo: I remember because the idea was pretty good.
Hari: Right? Right? If you think about it, my ideas were ahead of their time. It would be perfect now. Being vegan is trending these days. Vegetable dumplings without calories! It would have been popular with the vegetarians as well as with anybody on diet. It’s such a shame.

Then, she realized she had to return to the lab, and got off the elevator.

Taemoo: (thinking to himself) She acts awfully strange. But I like the way she works.

A few things here:

a. If it wasn’t for the blind date, they would’ve gotten along well together.

b. They had something in common: they both obsessed about food.

c. I get that she wears a wig and thick eye makeup whenever they met. But really, how difficult is it to recognize her voice? Oh well…

d. We’re seeing the archetype of a Manic Pixie Dream Girl (MPDG) here. This is to be expected because we’re dealing with a comic book character.

What’s an MPDG? Here’s the definition from the Wikipedia:

MPDGs are usually static characters who have eccentric personality quirks and are unabashedly girlish. They invariably serve as the romantic interest for a (most often brooding or depressed) male protagonist.

See how well the description fits Hari and Taemoo? For now, though, I’ll allow the MPDG-ness of Hari in the same way I overlooked the amoral traits of the characters in “Seinfeld” for entertainment.

e. The nosebleed trope. I think she’ll be the cause of his nosebleeds from here on out. He had a nosebleed too in the elevator when they were discussing the fake Jin Youngseo.

Assistant: They all seemed a lot better than the fake Jin Youngseo who you decided to marry at first glance.
Taemoo: At least the fake Jin Youngseo wasn’t boring. How can they all say the exact same things?

Remember: Hari represents the Manic Pixie Dream Girl stereotype in this romcom.

Assistant: That is true. She sure was different from the others. President Kang, your nose is bleeding.

Usually, nosebleeds in kdramas suggest that the character is stressed out.

3. Non-stop phone calls

In kdramas, the clingy boyfriend is the someone who calls the girl constantly. In this romcom, the screenwriter gives Taemoo a justification for constantly calling Hari up.

It started in Episode 1 when he saw that she wasn’t picking up his call. He didn’t know, of course, that the number he was calling up wasn’t Hari’s phone number.

Taemoo: Do you have two phones?

Before she could lie, he took her phone and called up his phone from hers.

Hari: (grabbing her phone back) How dare you just get my number like that?
Taemoo: We’re going to get married, so I should know all your phone numbers.

The second time was in Episode 2 when he called her up to check whether she still had the same number. He saw that she’d saved him as “Don’t Answer.”

Thus, he ordered her again to save his name again and demanded that she answered his calls.

Taemoo: Save my name again. And pick up when I call from now on. If you don’t answer my calls or try to disappear (showing her her chicken store card) I will come and find you.
Hari: Okay.
Taemoo: Also, what’s your actual name?
Hari: Shin Ha—Geumhui.

She named herself after a character in a kdrama. Since he didn’t watch kdramas, he didn’t know that she fooled him again. His grandfather would’ve recognized that name as fake.

Taemoo: (proceeding to enter her fake name)
Hari: (muttering under breath) Archaeopteryx.

Early in the morning, after he watched a documentary on his namesake, the archaeopteryx, he called her up.

Taemoo: Shin Geumhui-ssi?
Hari: (muttering) What’s he saying? Why is anyone prank calling at this hour?
Taemoo: It’s not a prank call. Are you still half-asleep? Shin Geumhui-ssi?
Hari: I’m not Shin Geum— (realizing who it was) Sorry, you just surprised me. Why did you call?
Taemoo: I just called to make sure you didn’t get a new number to cut me off. That’s all.

He was being petty.

Later that evening, he called her up to arrange for a date with her. He had spent the whole afternoon going on 11 blind dates. He wanted her to “take responsibility” for the mess she created by pretending to be Jin Younseo. She was his 12th date for the day but he didn’t mind.

Taemoo: Let’s meet after you get off of work.
Hari: What? Why? I’m busy.
Taemoo: Should I go to your house then?
Hari: What? No! I mean, I’m going to be late today. I’m working overtime, so I’ll be at work.
Taemoo: Where do you work, Ms. Shin?
Hari: Where do I work? It’s pretty far from Seoul, actually.
Taemoo: Far? Where? I even went to Japan today. Is it farther than Japan?

I think this is another trope. It’s the “I miss you and can’t wait to see you again” trope. He didn’t know it yet, though, that he wanted to meet her to reassure himself that she was different from the other girls.

Then, he called her up again as soon as he arrived at their meeting place. This would be his third call of the day that started at 4 am.

Taemoo: I’m at the coffee shop. Are you sure you’re a regular here?
Hari: Of course, why?
Taemoo: Nothing. It just seems a bit strange.
Hari: Rainbow Café, right? That’s the one. I had coffee there yesterday too. I’m here. Wait just a second.

I don’t know who recommended Rainbow Café to her because it must have been a prank. Rainbow Café was a coffee shop for parents to hang out with other parents while their children play.

Compared with his other 11 dates, this meeting was interesting. For one, Hari was mistaken for a mom by a confused child.

For another, Hari firmly rejected going along with his plan. The other blind dates were too eager to date him.

She said she didn’t want to lie again. According to him, however, she was the best person for the job since a) she’d proven her acting skills on their last date, b) she already knew his situation, c) his secret was safe was her, and most importantly, d) she had a debt to repay. He would save time by picking her.

But this wasn’t his last call. He called her up later that night. His grandfather was pressuring to meet his girlfriend, so he had no choice but to make her change his mind.

Hari: Hello?
Taemoo: Where are you?
Hari: Where would I be at this hour? I’m at home, of course.
Taemoo: Then come down for a second. I’m in front of your house.
Hari: (freaking out) You’re in front of my house? Now? Wait. Hold on. Why? (peeking outside her window) Why would you drop by this late without telling me? I was about to go to bed.
Taemoo: It looks like your lights are still on. Would you rather I let myself in?
Hari: No. I’ll come out! You just stay put, okay?

He went to her house to give her the contract and his profile to prepare for her meeting with his grandfather.

To the casual eye, all these phone calls mean nothing much. But if you think about it, the more he wants to communicate with her, the more he’s interested in her. He doesn’t want her to “ghost” him so he made sure he got the number of her “second” phone. He didn’t back away when he found out that her family-owned fried chicken shop. He allowed her to name the venue of their date at Ilsan. And he couldn’t wait till the next day to get her to sign the contract.

If their blind date had been an ordinary blind date, his intentional and constant phone calls would have been a clear indication that he enjoyed their date and would like to go out with her again. But ever since they started off on the wrong foot, they became increasingly entangled in a web of deception of their own making. It should be fun watching how they’ll sort it all out in the end.

  1. I’m enjoying this drama as well! 😁 I think it’s funny and just right. I was laughing all the time with archaeopteryx and whenever it comes up on her phone. 😂

Samantha and Rachel. Enough said. 😂 I can’t give mine a name for the reason that they don’t exist. 😂

KSJ is killing it here. Hopefully AHS will get better too.

  2. Old American Lady (OAL )

@packmule3, We’re a seinfeld family. Much of our conversation revolves around Seinfeld catchphrases-regifting anyone?

Enjoying this drama immensely. Loved the chase. But am loving grandpa’s a kdrama fan of. love-the drama is blowing up the show within a show trope. I think we’re bound to see the collision course with our main characters.

I want to know if this is a plot hole. Much was made of the fact that Hari smelled .Ike fish to a great extent and it was used as a gag. I have watched YouTube by Eater of fish mongers who can’t get the smell out. Do I assume that Hari bathed in lemons v Ala the Atlantic City character before her blind date or is it because he is olfactory challenged because of his frequent nosebleeds. I don’t think it’s a big deal but it just hangs there.

Anyway, am also looking forward to what I hope will be some food porn. Our Asian dramas and variety shows are great for the salivation factor both in yummy food and yummy cast members. I might be old, but I still CA no look. (Mood of the Day gave me a hankering for banana milk). I saw a HA Ji won episode of house on wheels where she brought bagels and lox, having made her own cream cheese. I was so stoked by this. What I take for granted was foreign fare in S. Korea. Woo Hoo!

Getting back to this drama, I hope it doesn’t get maudlin and am looking forward c to them keeping the laughs coming.

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @pkml3. You’ve saved the show for me. Episode 2 was better than Episode 1, but I was not watching it properly. Yes, come to think of it, all the calls seem to have been made on the same day. He’s nothing if not a persistent go-getter.

Seen in the light of him not wanting to let any distance grow between them, it starts to look romantic LOL.

That child was weird. I’d understand it if I was standing up and a little child didn’t look up properly to see my face, and mistook me for his mum, but Ha Ri was seated and the child could see her face. Anyway, I liked the look on Tae Moo’s face when the child called her ‘mum’. AHS definitely does better when he’s not being stiff.

@OAL, the most lovable and fun character, has to be Grandad. I can see that veteran actor, Lee Deok Hwa, is having a whale of a time as the easy-going chaebol, who’s a kdrama/soap-opera-loving nice guy. Loved how he tried to defend his cheek when the chaebol on TV got slapped by a tonkatsu. He said the exact same thing that came to my mind: ‘That must have hurt, because the tonkatsu crust must have been crispy!’ LOL. And he deplored how chaebols are always made out to be the bad guys. So for a change, this show gives us the chaebol’s point of view on themselves being depicted in shows.

  4. I found this episode to be better on a re-watch. Thank you, @packmule3, for the highlights. I hope that the nosebleed is stress rather than an illness. In the subs I had, Tae Moo said something in a frustrated way ‘These nosebleeds!’ which suggested to me that they were familiar to him.

When Tae Moo chased after Ha-ri with the slipper, I thought the same thing: he was a star athlete and would have a relatively enormous two-stairs-at-once stride, but couldn’t catch up with her? But I liked that he gave her the slipper back. I thought he might have believed the drop on her slipper was a tear and that she was weeping.

She got so excited about the vegetarian dumplings that she almost forgot to keep her face hidden. I think it won’t be very long before he finds out. Maybe next week. Then we can start the ‘torment at work’ trope.

@GB, yes to the Grandfather. Lee Deok Hwa always plays some sort of rascal, right? I think his eyebrows type-cast him. Here he’s quite a loving rascally grandfather with regrets about how his grandson was raised. Did he adopt 2ML to be a brother figure to Tae Moo?

He wishes he could meet his in-laws at a tonkatsu place. Be careful what you wish for, Grandfather! Ha-ri has the same reaction when the Kdrama character with her name is hit with a piece of chicken. Ouch! But she is aware that her life is imitating a soap. I’m looking forward to Grandfather meeting Ha-ri’s mother after seeing her reaction to the diners watching the soap.

  5. @Fern, I can’t wait when Tae Moo hears parts of the drama, it’ll dawn on him who Shin Geum Shi is and the story. That should be hilarious 😁

  6. @agdr03, He may not figure it out, but his Grandfather will when he and Ha-ri meet. How funny! It reminds me of ‘Kim Woo Bin’ in Goblin.

  7. @Old American Lady, my husband is currently having a Seinfeld obsession. Brings it all back to me, even if I’m not sitting next to him watching it. Better than Rick and Morty, is all I can say. That changed his personality for a while.

  8. Oh grandpa will be relieving his favourite drama to real life 😁

I can’t remember Kim Woo Bin in Goblin. 😬

  9. @agdr03, it was the name that the Grim Reaper gave to himself, not knowing the origin. It didn’t fool his GF for a minute.

  10. @agdr03,

Can you imagine when Taemoo introduces Hari as “Shin Geum Shi” to his grandpa? And that her family owns a fried chicken restaurant. Of course, the grandpa will recognize that name from the drama, and know it’s such a weird coincidence that her parents own a fried chicken place.

    😂😂

  11. Ah I get it now. ☺️ I like KWB too. 😁

  12. Hehehe Grandpa will say to himself, ‘your Shin Geum Shi and you own a fried chicken place? I can’t be the rich bad guy!’. 😂

    Hopefully it’ll be a hoot! 😁

Oh seriously though, the chicken slapping is nasty. 😬

  13. @agdr03,

Worse than throwing water or a sea-weed slap, right? Trope heaven.

  14. Or an expensive bag? Ouch! 😬

  15. @Old American Lady,

Remember the term “sponge-worthy”? 😂😂 She had to assess whether her boyfriend was sponge-worthy!

The show’s creators, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, are geniuses. How they observed those little absurdities and spun them into what? — 7 seasons of comedy show? — is a feat like Michaelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel. 👏👏👏👏

Yes. Hari should smell like a fish if she met him on the day she did her mackerel recipe. But I think it was the following day? I’ll have to see it.

Ooohh. Now, I’m hungry for bagel with plain cream cheese too! I can have the lox tomorrow when I’ve to abstain from meat.

  16. Seinfeld was a snap shot of the times. I think my husband was at Yale when it was airing, so this is memory lane for him. Hmmm. A bagel sounds good. The good bagels are a 4 hour trip to London, though.

  17. Hmmm…. I’ve been a little wary of the nosebleed trope ever since DDSSLLS—which I also thought was supposed to be entirely a fun and light romance. Please, show, no horrible illness waiting in the wings!

  18. @pm3 Thanks for another great post. I hadn’t realized that Ha ri was the Manic Pixie Dream Girl until you pointed it out but now I see it. How did I miss that? Yeah, Tae Moo totally likes her already, and we know that it will last even after she is exposed because they already bonded over the food research projects in the elevator. (Althogh he has been admiring her work ever since Ep. 1) Episode 2 was better than Ep. 1 and I enjoyed the comedy. The grandfather is a hoot! ML character improved this episode-he’s getting some personality. AHS acting was still off for me though. I really hope he improves next ep. I thought the nosebleeds might have something to do with high blood pressure since it was mentioned that Tae Moo family suffer from high blood pressure. Hopefully it’s not going to be life threatening but curable.

  19. @BethB, that’s just what I thought.

  20. @Table122000, I think she’s partly that, but she’s not abnormally girly. I didn’t know it was a type. I see it a lot in Chinese dramas, where the FL is teeny and perky and the ML is tall and tsundere. Wouldn’t it be funny if it were the other way around? I imagine that traditionalists wouldn’t like it, unless perhaps it were for the 2nd couple.

  21. I really liked the stage set atmosphere of Ha-ri’s daydream about her debt-ridden life up until then. (At about 100.30). She even pushes the props into the scene where she scrubs pots (theatrically without water), waits tables, loads boxes until she finally gets a job in a REAL company. It was a good method of showing how she is the FL in her own life. In the first episode, her friend uses Ha-ri’s ‘acting chops’ for the impersonation. Then we get the parallels between Shin Ha-ri’s life and Shin Geum-hui the character in the soap opera on TV. There will be more play-acting when she meets the grandfather because she won’t want to jeopardise the payment that Tae Moo is offering for each meeting.

I have a feeling that they will both be in big trouble with the grandfather. Especially as it looks like the secretary and Ha-ri’s bestie will become an item. Grandfather won’t be pleased.

  22. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Fern, If you have HBO try Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. He is the brains behind Seinfeld and has this strange sense of humor. This year he has incorporated Tracy Ullman, who is hilarious into the series. But Larry David is the inspiration for Costanza and many of his experiences in real life are included in the show. If you watch just be aware that he insults everyone.

  23. Old American Lady (OAL)

Lee Deok He’s was in the Red Sleeve and won a lifetime achievement award. He is so ubiquitous and can do it all. I love actors with range. Comedy is not easy to do. It t demands timing and nuance. We take it for granted but it we shouldn’t. Many comedians are excellent tragedians. But it is not vice versa. And another thing about the comedy here-it is funny across cultural boundaries, and that is no mean feat. One more thought-womrn in comedy, up until about twenty years ago were limited and in this drama we see how good the comedic roles for women are.So I’m looking forward to Hari meeting grandpa. Let more fun ensue

  24. Hi @PM3 and BOD peepz ~

Yes I am watching this show… and love your quick takes @PM3

Archeao what? omg i do like the visual of the creature when they show him calling her phone. haha. 💛

Seinfeld cracks me up. and I laugh hard. my Hubby loves this show. but I find, I laugh Loud and he just chuckles.

Is it just me or anybody notice a resemblance of Ha Ri (KSJ) to EMMA STONE??

Looking at AHS face makes me feel like i’m watching “Lovers of the Red sky” all over again except in modern times. I miss his blind eyes haha.

  25. Old American Lady (OAL)

@packmule3 and @Fern, such great observations. I loved the spongeworthy episode. Also want to tell you about a commercial(advert) that Seinfeld did for American Express. In it he was supposedly doing stand up in London but not getting laughs because of cultural differences in humor. I didn’t buy it because I grew up on Benny Hill, Monty Python, Peter Sellers, etc. So I guess there are commonalities in humor and the Business proposal laughs prove it.

  27. Off topic:

@OAL, we had Curb Your Enthusiasm here as well on one of the regular channels, so I’m familiar with his very irreverent sense of humour. There’s something special about the ensemble in Seinfeld which is why I used to watch it in the ’90s before moving overseas. It was strange to come here and see American shows like Friends, Frasier, Simpsons, Futurama, the Wire and others on the TV every night. I’ll have to check out Tracy Ullman in the newer episodes of CYE – she is very funny.

  28. Fern,

I do like the creative touches that director does to show us Hari’s inner thoughts. Like,

    – this Hari’s daydream sequence that’s set-up like an MTV, that you mentioned

    – Hari’s best friend floating behind her like a train conductor saying that her friendship train had turned into a boyfriend express. That had me laughing, too.

    – the archaeopteryx showing up on her phone each time Taemoo called.

I hope the director will keep it up and not run out of money halfway through the show with the graphics. 🙂

Yes, the Grandpa seems to like the kdrama with the poor girl/rich man trope. I wonder if he’ll find it as amusing when life imitates art. Will wait and see.

  29. Hi @HK_Lady,

You know the other scene that had me laughing? It’s when Hari came out at night to meet TM wearing jammies and make-up. As a woman, she couldn’t be seen bare-faced in public, she said. But he pointed out that her feminine rule wasn’t consistent if she could wear her sleeping clothes outdoors.

The kiss scene is straight out of a manhwa story so I didn’t mind it. It wasn’t supposed to be romantic; it’s more comedy. Also, it’s a plot device. The two will probably be discovered by her brother in “flagrante delicto” and she’ll be forced to introduce TaeMoo to her family or something. 🙂

I think Kim SeJoong’s appearance matches AHS here. In the looks department, I don’t have complaints. They match well.

  30. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Fern,So true about that ensemble. I love Tracy Ullman-I used to watch her sketch show, where the Simpsons premiered. Ialso enjoyed JulizLouis Creyfuss on Veep (the idea of a British showrunner). She would be considered a Chaebol in Koreabecause she is a family member of the Lazaard Freres fortune and is independently wealthy.

Back to BP. I watched Ep.1 again. The first date happened a day after the inauguration. NO material smell. My bad.

  31. Old American Lady (OAL)

@packmule3, Maybe Ha-ri’s great talent with food and her ideas will ultimately save the day with grandpa. I lo e the food fights in the drama within a drama-nos we have chicken legs. And speaking of chicken legs, Ha-ri makes much better chicken than her mom, whose memory of Ha-ri’s birthday were her 20 hours of labor. This drama really gets into the weeds….

  32. @packmule3, I forgot about the Friendship Train.😄

I agree about Kim Sejeong’s looks, too. She has a warm sort of pretty face; a little bit pugnacious. I can’t see her being type-cast as royalty, for example. Her smile reminds me a tiny bit of younger Meg Ryan. I think that her look contrasts well with AHS’s more cool (archeaopteryx) face. Wearing PJs and sunglasses out to the car was so funny. She only thought to disguise her face, right?

@Old American Lady, you could be correct. The company might be able to use Ha-ri’s chicken recipe to start a successful product line in their factory in Ilsan. Or those vegetarian dumplings. I like that idea that her talent and capability will prove more than her weight in gold.

  33. @Fern, to add, the story is moving along at a nice pace. I like that there’s a lot of scenes between HR and Archeaopteryx. My gosh! Spelling! 😂

  34. Yes, we need an abbreviation. Like A’x.😉

  35. @Fern, the Friendship Train spooked me. I thought her bestie was a murderer who came to stab her but she kept gliding…. 😂😂

I wonder what’s the point of Ilsan factory. Will he spend more time at the Ilsan factory, thinking that it’s more convenient for her since she said she works in Ilsan? 😂 She’ll have to blame herself for her commute to Ilsan.

Meg Ryan! Were you reminded of that fake orgasm scene in “When Harry Met Sally”? Hari’s and Taemoo’s blind date looked like the cafe scene.

It’s a good thing she remembered to put on makeup!! I forgot. 😂

I wondered what she was up to when she came to a screeching halt in front of the mirror. I didn’t get that the joke was being set up. Like Taemoo, I was baffled to see her in her sunglasses at night. Then when she removed them, I started laughing.

  36. @agdr03,

I just let the auto-fill and spellcheck do the trick.

But if you must spell it correctly on you’re on: it’s ARCH + AEO (the order is the same as vowels AEiOu) + P + TERYX.

The other scene I thought was funny was when he called her bluff. In Ep 1, she told him she wanted to go a hotel room with him. He knew she was bluffing but he went along with it and booked them a room.

He hid a smile because he was unto her.

She couldn’t take one more step to follow him. The reflection of fireworks 💥in her eyes made me laugh.

  37. Yes, those fireworks, but not with pleasure – more like the rocket’s red glare. I think Tae Moo was interested to see how far the bluff would go. Not far at all, as you say.

At least by the end of episode 2, Tae Moo is clear about Hari’s feelings. Despite the money incentive, she wants out. That is, she wants to fulfill her promise to help him, but perhaps in some other way that she hasn’t figured out yet, so she proposes a conversation the next day. She isn’t intrigued by him as he is by her and he is getting desperate.

I think it’s time for her to ‘fess up because dating or not, he will see her at work. He knows that she is ‘unsuitable’ – I wonder how he will handle her background when he introduces her to his grandfather?

  38. Ah, the famous cafe scene? The little smile at the end. And “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Actually, while Kim Sejeong’s looks remind me a little bit of Meg Ryan, the character’s actions remind me of the way Lucille Ball would get in trouble with a fib, then dig herself in deeper and deeper, while the audience would be getting more and more horrified/amused. I was really little when the show was airing – I didn’t get the humour and could only think that she had to stop lying.

  39. Thanks. That made it easy. ☺️ I’ve only got the teryx right whenever I type it. 😂 The autocorrect sometimes is there sometimes not.

Can we abbreviate it to ARTX or like @Fern said, A’x. ? 😁

Yes, he read her big time. I liked too that because someone assumed she was having an affair, she even used it again to Taemoo to turn him off. But she was scared from the other lady. 😂

I laughed when I saw her makeup too. Even Taemoo asked her if she can see. 😂

  40. Hello BOD! You got me interested in watching kdrama again because of your posts on this show. Last one I watched was Hometown Chax3 and I didn’t get to finish it!

This show has so many LOL moments that I truly enjoy it. My husband looking at me like I’ve gone mad while watching! Hahaha. The additional effects make so much difference hey?

That scene where it’s said that having a poor girl fall in love with a rich guy is not realistic at all, had me cracking as well. I like that the writer disses its own plot! Haha.

  41. @agdr03,

Even if you’re flat-chested, you can still call your breasts Samantha and Rachel. But just say that they’re your “invisible” friends… 😂🤪

I also like that part when TaeMoo stop the angry woman from pulling on Hari’s hair. Hari quickly hid behind him because he’s taller than her. I bet she’s going to do this often.

I also watched that pork cutlet slapping moment. 😂 The actor actually closed his eyes and moved his head slightly to dodge the pork cutlet slap. He knew slap was coming and couldn’t stop his reaction. 😂😂

  42. Old American Lady (OAL)

@,packmule3, I wish I had the flat chested rejoinder when I was in Junior High school. I was notoriously underdeveloped but was tall (like towering over most of the boys)for my age and overweight (where some would euphemistically call it baby fat). One very developed friend nickned mer UB for undershirt baby-no bra for me. But the cruel boys calledr no milk sow (how they got that iny urban school?)because I. Was fat and flat chested. Ah, the humiliation of it all. I eventually started wearing a bra when my gym teacher pulled me aside and told me it was time. For a time in my twenties I went braless to make a feminist statement when one of my older coworkers told me that I was a distraction at my workplace where I also spent time investigating convicted felons-not a good luck when dealing with domestic abusers and sex offenders.

It is so good to be able to laugh about a subject that brought pure mortification to me in my younger days. This drama has been very funny but also cathartic. I am looking forward to o Hari and friend’s future hijinks. The comedy here makes all the difference and I hope the drama does not veer into something serious. And I hope our two girl friends have more Lucy and Ethel moments. Maybe something to do with kimchi making or ramen..

  43. This interview came up on YouTube. Apologies if it’s been posted already.

    They look great together.

  44. @AOL, I like this grandpa too. I’ve seen him a few times and I thought he did great in The Red Sleeves especially. I’m liking all of his pajamas in the show too. 😁

  45. But I don’t want an invisible Samantha and Rachel. 😆

That actor was aware of what’s coming. 😂

    I can’t wait for episode 3 and 4.
