  1. Squeal! Above is my happy pill!

    Kumawoyo!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @pkml3. Hi @agdr03!! Our happy Monday and Tuesday are here!

  3. Hi @GB! 🙂

Yes to happy Monday and Tuesday because of HaTae. 🙂

I can’t wait because Taemu will finally cook for Hari, showing another one of many talents. hehehehe

  4. You’re welcome, @GB and @agdr03.

I’m eagerly waiting for the new episode to drop.

  5. Hello BODers!

I’m always enjoying the comments here! May I join the fun of watching HaTae couple in the remaining episodes. This is where the office romance begins and Taemu will prove that he is indeed good at doing many things! So excited to tonight and tomorrow’s episodes

  6. yes looking forward too! after an emotionally charged ep14 of 25,21… i’ll be glad to bask in the happy glow of HaTae!

  7. I’m putting this article here because it’s the bts of the kiss scene above. I like how the director said at the end, ‘you two get away from each other now, you’ve kissed enough’. 😂

    https://www.soompi.com/article/1519293wpp/watch-ahn-hyo-seop-and-kim-sejeong-bring-professionalism-and-chemistry-to-their-kiss-scenes-in-a-business-proposal

  8. yes agdr03! 😂 Is it also the director’s job to look after the actors’ emotional management? To ensure they are not too attached?

I also liked their BTS first kiss better. I felt it flows better. However I can understand they chose a toned down version, it is their first kiss after all.

I saw the preview of ep 9 on SBS Catch – just under 1 min and it’s already very sweet!

  9. lol @agdr03!! They are so cute i secretly ship them…I love SeJeong’s energy and AHS’s sense of steadfastness…or am I confusing their character and actual people. ARgh!!

So looking forward to mondays and tuesdays, balances out the intense weekends with 25-21 like @swiss_postscripts says.

  10. @Viva, I saw the bts of the first kiss scene too and I agree, I think what was shown was better that way. I’m just glad I saw the bts of it. 🔥

I know right? 😁 The preview is heart fluttering already. I think it’s a breakfast date for our HaTae. 🥰

  11. @grace, I’m trying hard NOT to ship them. 🙅🏻‍♀️😂

I’m just happy that they’ve gotten closer now compared to the awkwardness at the start of filming.

I saw a post on Instagram about the end of the drama shooting and AHS and KSJ hugged each other tightly. That affirms the closeness. Which is nice. ☺️

  12. Kalimera Everyone!

Let’s have a lovely episode tonight!

P.S. I have also started Dr. Romantic Season 2 that I have postponed due to HP2’s fiasco. Dr. Romantic S1 was the bomb with Kim Sabu. Paul as the doctor Woo Jin did quite an impression while I was watching E1! I have read that Paul will return in Season3 along with Han Suk-Kyu / Kim Sabu.

  13. Good morning/evening to all. Thank you, @packmule3. I am looking forward to tonight’s drama.

  14. Me too! Great excitement.

@Cleo – me too – loving Dr 2 and extra helpings of AHS with it. Super series. Really got caught up in DR 1 and didn’t expect this series to be as gripping.

  15. So excited about episodes 9 and 10 as well!

Really happy to see that people are enjoying Dr. Romantic 2. It’s waayyy better than HP2 which I dropped at episode 10. @Cleopatra, @Kate, I am really looking forward to Dr. Romantic 3 with Kim Sabu and AHS and I hope we will be able to discuss it here. 🙂

  16. @Cleopatra, @Kate, @Hatlady – thank you for the validation of Dr Romantic 1+2! I keep seeing it pop-up on my Netflix recommendations and am quite piqued ever since I found out that AHS is also on it 😮 might be the next thing to catch! wishing all an enjoyable time with HaTae tonight, and also catching up on everyone’s comments thereafter!

  17. Just starting episode 9. Is it just me or is AHS’s right ear especially red? I get that it was cold when they filmed this scnene, but it is bright red…does anyone think he was blushing in real life?

I watched the BTS of that kiss this week and it was cute how Sejoing gave AHS a hug after their “original” more steamy kiss, he hugged her back and later she even shed a tear.

  18. The PPL products used for Ha-ri’s morning routine were cleverly introduced.

Don’t tell me our second leads are living together already?!

  19. @Hatlady, they don’t seem to be living together.

  20. I may be in the minority on this, but I could watch an entire drama with that cousin in the lead.

  21. @Skayt, I just finished the episode, and they are not living together like you said. (Spoiler: SH does take the cousin in for a night after she shows up drunk outside his apartment, and SH is as angry as a hot pepper when she finds out about how SH showed up at the date instead of Tae-mu and that her cousin spent a night at his place!)

What are everyone’s thoughts on why Tae-mu wears his hair down now?

  22. @Skayt You aren’t the minority, I can’t stop laughting, I was rolling with laughter at her animated everything!! This is a super fun episode!

@Hatlady, he is def more relaxed. I think the hair up and hair down always cues the formal-informal feel of the character. I kinda like his hair up though, really iconic.

Of course this episode is so fun because it is the beginnings of their relationship. Hari tells TaeMoo that the breakfast morning is the best morning ever. Ahh…this is such a sweet episode. All the supporting characters are excessively fun and crazy.

The only one not doing well is our 2nd lead couple. For one, SungHoon isn’t coming clean enough, is he guilty for cousin falling in love with him? I thought he did really well by drawing his lines with her though. He was really clear but cousin was very persistent, of course egged on by clueless Youngsoo.

  23. The cousin’s kore-nglish is so good. Especially the WTF. I’m surprised he wore the relaxed hair to work. I really need to look at the manga just to appreciate what they’ve kept and/or changed in the drama. I really need to do some background searching on the single coworker-she made me laugh last episode and this one.

  24. swiss_postscripts

@skayt, @grace – I’d join you guys! i couldn’t stop guffawing involuntarily at her OTT antics. it’s a close fight for episode MVP between her and Mr Gye – his showmanship with the drinks was incredibly funny!

@hatlady, @grace – TM’s with hair down has him looking and being more grounded, approachable and vulnerable. Hair up, as @grace said, is more iconic and rightly sets the tone for his aloofness. But thanks to HR, our icy-cool ML is steadily warming up!

  25. @swiss_postscripts: that drink production was incredible! I heard it was a nod to some BTS videos?

I had to look up where I saw that actress before. She’s in one of my favorites, “Mad For Each Other” where she plays a survey taker and she prefaces her spiel with “I’m not a weird person” lol. The drama does a sympathetic, realistic take on mental illness, but within a zanier context.

  26. I LOVED mad for each other.
I keep feeling like the cousin has shades of Veronica park

  27. I really loved mad for each other.
Yes! That’s her. I hope she gets more parts in the future.
The cousin is giving me Veronica park vibes which may be why I find her extra funny.

  28. There’s much love and cuteness overload in episode 9. The office romance begins and it’s so obvious how Taemu longs for Hari.

Some of Taemu’s “good at many things” are the following:
    – he can show off his cooking skills to Hari
    – he’s keen to details like he’s good at estimating Hari’s shoe size just by looking it up close when Hari wore mismatched shoes
    – he has a child-like heart on simple things (he’s happy to be introduced as Hari’s boyfriend in the snack bar and when Hari gave him a kiss after their first breakfast together)
    – he has a good sense of humor (teasing Hari about the mismatched shoes, earrings and sauce on her cheek)
    – he took time with people around Hari (even with those annoying friends after their so-called business trip and eating/drinking with Hari’s colleagues)
    – he is good at finding excuses to kiss Hari in his own romantic way

  29. Thanks for this list, @Eureka!

  30. You’re welcome @pm3! Maybe we could still see more of them in the remaining episodes. I’m so hooked into this show that some thoughts pop in and I couldn’t help to share them here.

  31. Adding to the @Eureka’s list:

Taemu went and looked for Hari after the grandfather encounter. He noticed something wrong with Hari and reached out to her.

Their conversation in the stairwell touches my heart. Taemu cares for his girlfriend, consistent to his man of action CEO character, he would do something to resolve it. I like that Hari can be honest about why she is upset. She wants to be loved by the person Taemu loves. When Taemu commented how beautiful that is, I wonder if that also means how beautiful her heart is. That she cares about Taemu’s grandfather too. She didn’t ask Taemu to choose between her and his family.

I think their tension are getting higher but Hari steps out and takes her time. The difference between the second lead couple and our main lead couple couldn’t be more obvious. The way they deal with tension, the way they deal with conflicts.

Fashion wise – I love Taemu’s 3-piece pinstripe suit. I also love Hari’s earrings from their breakfast date! I think Taemu’s new hair gives a softer edge. A puppy look, someone who wants to be loved and acknowledged. The tables are turned for Taemu. Hari is the one who holds the power here I think.

Just like @agdr03 said Ms Yeo and Mr Gye are dating! So funny!

There are role reversals here too:

    1. Mr Gye is the one running to the bathroom and Ms Yeo is the one chasing him. Watching them is really funny! Good that Mr Gye has no trouble dating a woman who holds a higher position than him.
    2. Hari is the one who wants to hide their relationship. Taemu is the one who really wants to be acknowledged.

Speaking of that – another heart fluttering moment is when Hari introduced Taemu as her boyfriend! His face dims and prepared to be just the president but brightens up after being acknowledged. It is very sensitive of Hari, she reads Taemu well. Yes I agree with @Eureka, his heart is quite pure and just be happy to be Hari’s boyfriend.

  32. Kalimera Ladies,

I really enjoyed Episode 9 and I am happy because I was rooting for that sweet side of TaeMoo since the very beginning and I wrote some on his character on the previous thread.

Paul Ahn / Anh Hyo Seop did an amazing job portraying the layers of the workaholic and perfectionist Archaeopteryx that hides a sweet man underneath all that.

I am glad that they have found each other in the middle and HaRi brought all those beautiful feelings on the surface.

I am waiting how Haraboji will react. Will they follow the webtoon or not? Let us see!

@Kate @Hatlady @Swiss_postscripts I love Kim Sabu / Dr Romantic. It is by far the most realistic medical drama I have seen. Believe me when I say I have watched a lot! I also like the head nurse SuSem / Ms. Oh!

  33. Ah chincha! HaTae makes my heart so happy. 🥰

I can’t remember a morning date in a drama before. That whole date scene was just 😍. It felt good and especially Hari’s kiss on Taemoo’s cheek. 🥰

The smile in Taemoo’s eyes when Hari said ‘nae namja chingu’. 🥰 The kiss in the park. Aigoo! It’s killing me. Even archaeopteryx’s got a heart now. Awww. ☺️

I thought the episode was funny and Yu-jeong (cousin) was extra funny. 😂

Hearing what Hari said about wanting to be loved by Taemoo’s grandpa too because he’s the one that Taemoo loves the most, must have been heart fluttering for Taemoo. 😍

  34. I know I know! That kiss on the cheek is very pretty to look at! With the sun behind them, rainbow and light bubbles created by the camera.😍🌈 Fresh love, new beginning!

I also like Taemu being honest with cousin YJ in the blind date that he wants to marry someone else. We don’t need to watch too many misunderstandings. Although the interfering YJ’s mum may cause some trouble later?

  35. Also loved the breakfast date… perfection!

Especially when Tae Moo says: ‘You’re cheating.’ and our puzzled and abashed heroine can only glance at him shyly through her fingers.

What an enjoyable episode over all…! The main enjoyment for me being Tae Moo in romantic pursuit mode. The adorable distracted scribbling on his e-notepad and weighing up the pros and cons of his business trip if it means missing a date with HR!! The need for Secretary Cha to drag him away from Ha-Ri and her (incredibly nosy) colleagues. His attention to her vulnerability and the way he finds the real her so attractive.

I know it’s part of the comedy deal but Ha-Ri’s colleagues are another level of intrusive – the irritating junior female colleague actually diving into her gift bag to open the shoes Tae-Moo sent her…

Also, loving the Kor-english fluent cousin. ‘You KNOW I have no chingu!’ hahaha. She is Veronica Park meets Strong Girl Bong=Soon and a hint of Verucka Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Looking forward to ep 10…I am glad that the Chairman has run into TM and HR in town… I want their relationship out there! But they may well come up with a good excuse because of the employee prize…

  36. @agdr03,

I can do a rewatch on Friday if you’re free. Same time?

    **********

    Oh no!

Why did Taemoo buy shoes for her? Isn’t that supposed to be bad luck? 😂😂

    Re. Grandpa

Taemoo can always leverage the 20% sale increase brought about by Hari’s video and her past award on Founders Day. She’s an employee who contributes to the company.

  37. Deal!!! 👍🏻 9:30pm Friday, Sydney time.

Ottoke!!! 😱 I forgot about the shoe giving superstition. Andwae! 🙅🏻‍♀️😂

    @Fern, are you free? 🤔

  38. Ok! I’ll open a thread for us later.

    9:30 pm Sydney
    6:30 am EST

You can decide which episode after tonight’s show. 🙂

  39. Ne. 🙇🏻‍♀️

    Kumawo. 😴

  40. @grace, yes, Kdramas use hairstyle changes as a symbol of inwardly changes, time skips, etc. Like you, I miss the slicked-back hair too. Taemu now no longer needs to slick his hair back with his hand and he no longer gets nosebleeds. Love changes him…

It was the sweetest thing for Tae-mu to remember Ha-ri’s shoe size, get shoes for Ha-ri and have them delivered to her from “her boyfriend” based on his dates with her, holding her He loves to see her wear white/cream, just like he couldn’t take his eyes off her when she wore the cream-colored when she was Geumhui. Those heels look like shoes Hari could wear to her wedding.

Glad this is a 12-episode drama, which means the misunderstanding/break-up/noble idiocy trope that might play out during episode 10 hopefully won’t last very long.

I’m looking forward to tonights episode especially the double date and our two couples hiding their relationships from Hari’s parents.

  41. @Eureka and @Viva, thanks for the Taemu sweet moments, I concur and enjoyed them as well!

@Kate, the breakfast date was one of the sweetest dates I have ever seen in K-drama!

Just for laughs…I can understand how Hari felt wearing two different shoes because I once wore two different black runners in a mad dash to drive to my university (one hour drive away in Canada with over 30 minutes on the freeway). I didn’t realize I wore two different shoes until I stepped on the break pedal when it got brighter. It was so embarassing, and I remember feeling self-conscious the whole day. Now, many years later, I still double-check to see I am wearing matching shoes every day! 🙂

  42. @Hatlady, have re-watched a few times shall we say?!

  43. @agdr03, our clocks changed a couple of days ago, so I think that’s 11.30 in UK time and I should be okay this week. Unless sofa repair man comes to spoil my fun. I don’t get a time frame until Thursday evening.

  44. Really enjoyed ep 10 – more sweet moments + some very clever story telling!

  45. Permission to post

Re: Ha Ri calling Tae Moo her “boyfriend”, I feel that it avoided some suspicions (at that time and place) about the purpose of their “date” if he introduced himself as the “president”.

    ********

Just watched ep 10. Toward the end, it seems that Grandpa is opposed to their relationship, but not before learning about an “apparent” accident involving Tae Moo.

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Nog, welcome to this thread!

Episode 10 – so much to hide and several reveals.

I felt the YS – SH saga was too pat. Several things YS said were inaccurately interpreted and she was not corrected. Her anger was not justified but the issue of why was not addressed. If TM had to apologise for sending SH to the date, she was the pot calling the kettle black since she sent Ha Ri to replace her, not once but at least 3 times with TM and several times before that with other dates. YS’s being given too much leeway and her weak character is being treated too lightly as if she’s fine and there’s nothing to forgive.

I pitied TM so much over having to hide and to lie. However he acquitted himself well in all the occasions he was with HR. I especially liked how he was never above serving and working like the ‘common’ people.

It was lovely, the way HR took care of TM. And yes, their dates were sweet.

I suppose we’ll get a quick and easier denouement, than in a longer series, because we are down to the last 2 episodes. Show has provided the situation where Grandfather’s anxiety over TM’s welfare will trump any considerations over whom he dates, as long as he loves the girl. Perhaps he’ll give in more willingly as a result.

So many factors came in at the same time for both SH and TM, that I expected in the end, poor TM would have to drive in the rain, to save HR from Grandfather, and to overcome that trauma on his own. However Show has offered another challenge as a cliffhanger to keep us dangling till next week. 🙂

  47. 0n a purely visual note I am relieved in eps 9 and 10 that HR’s wardrobe is more crisp and professional. Her coat for the Ep9 breakfast date matched TM’s for clean lines.

Also, is anyone else getting Kate Hudson looks and vibes when we watch our FL?

  48. Kalispera!

I just watched Episode 10 and I was happy until before Haraboji came into the picture! Then I saw Episode’s 11 preview and let’s say that we will have an episode that would be challenging…

  49. Hi, Cleopatra. I shall have to look for the preview. The U.K. Netflix simply cut out at the end and posted adverts for other dramas over the screen.

@Kate, yes, especially Kate Hudson’s profile.

  50. @Fern,

I am frustrated right now! 😑
    Check SBS Catch On YouTube!

  51. I need help with the almost ending in this episode. Ha-ri’s flowers disappear. Does this mean it was only a fantasy for her? Also, at about 54.50 she said something about going out to drink with her workmates but decided not to because they had the car – was the subway also fantasy? Was the whole time that evening with TM a daydream?

Apart from that, SH and YS are fairly well white-washed despite their character flaws and immaturity. Everyone except her father. and probably Haraboji, think well of them as a couple. There may be more opposition to them getting married than to HR and TM.

  52. Thank you, @Cleopatra. It looks like opposition from every possible relation next week.

  53. You are welcome @Fern!

    True…!

  54. @Fern, it hadn’t occurred that the whole flower sequence might be fantasy. Interesting! If not could it be that the flowers though real wilt and disappear symbolically for a moment?

  55. Ie they reflect her hopes disappearing?

  56. @Kate, she didn’t have them when she met with Chairman Kang, so I wondered if it was real or not. Unless the director is showing us something out of sequence? I’m confused. (happens to me often, but people here are kind)

  57. 😀 I’m interested to see what people think.May rewatch that segment. I remember her face falling when she got the text she then implied was
From friends. He looked thoughtful at that point. I think she had the flowers then…? Will rewatch. It would be quite some story telling if we had moved in and out of fantasy. Intriguing!

  58. Ladies!

It was not fantasy. It was a foreshadow that things will become messy…

We need to see what kind of flower her bouquet was.
    Talking to you tomorrow…

  59. @Cleopatra, they are white and pink lisianthus with some eucalyptus for accent.
    https://www.flowermeaning.com/lisianthus-meaning/
Eucalyptus has meanings, too, but I always wonder if these meanings are different in different parts of the world. That is, the meaning of lisianthus may differ in Asia to the Americas to Europe.

  60. Hey @Fern, like @Kate and @Cleo, I don’t think this is a fantasy. My interpretation of this:

    1. A nice way of throwing the flowers away. It is not possible for Hari to bring the flowers to the meeting but throwing them to the bin right in front of our eyes would be too harsh!

    2. Building on what @Cleo said, this can act as a symbolism, transitioning the happiness to Hari’s darkest fear.

I thought it is the sweetest thing when Hari patted Taemu! It is very heart-warming that she kept distracting Taemu and even nicer when Taemu knew all along. His quick kiss was the sweetest! Very fitting, very natural.

The funny part is when poor Taemu were prepared to go back to the wardrobe again and discussed if he would die when jumping off the room. 😀 H

@Kate – yes her clothes are much nicer to look at! The blouse in the breakfast date is nice. Also her collection of handbags continues…

Does Hari also have an archaeopteryx glance now? When she looked at her little brother. XD

  61. Thank you @GB!

On YS and SH, I felt that their reconciliation came too fast/was rushed, but at least they started to know more about each other. Hopefully their relationship will build up from there. I agree that YS demanding apology from TM is a “pot meet kettle” moment, and reveals her lack of self-awareness, maybe?

I noticed also the disappearance of the bouquet, which I think symbolized the upcoming challenge ahead for Ha Ri and Tae Moo.

On Grandpa, I hope he will come around and eventually accept Ha Ri.

I hope that the amnesia trope will not appear on Ep 11. Also, YS’s father learned about her relationship with SH. Will he become an obstacle to them?

  62. I like that HaTae couple tries to do their best to protect each other. Tae Moo’s patience and understand is in a different level as he tries not to pressure Hari in their relationship. Remember in their first kiss he even asked if that kiss is Hari’s confirmation of her feelings to him. Most guys would just assume that the kiss means a Yes! While their walking in the orphanage park, Tae Moo said not to worry about Haraboji and that they will tell their relationship when Hari is ready. What a gentleman he is!

  63. @eureka, right on the money! i really love how they protect each other wordlessly, naturally, meaningfully, without “noble idiocy” coming to play. :-‘)

also i have enough faith in the show that the amnesia/vehicle-out-of-nowhere trope (if it does happen) will be turned on it’s head and crack us up eventually. can’t wait to see it play out.

also, hope to see an ending for the show in the show (which is also at a cliffhanger) and how that might impact on how haraboji sees HR. I secretly had hoped that the ML in the show in the show would be smacked by a crispy tonkatsu again – that was just hilarious.

onward to the final two episodes!

  64. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The META that I like turns up again in Ep 10
1)Ha Ri’s brother finds out that she’s dating the President of her company.
Ha Min : “Anyway, does his family know that you’re dating?”…”I’m just worried that a rich family like his won’t be happy with a normal family like ours. We won’t be able to cover your marriage expenses even if we sell our store. Should I debut as an idol and make that money?”

Ha Ri (or Kim Se Jeong, who is a real idol,) gets up to knock some sense into him but changes it to stroking her brother’s head : “Do you think becoming an idol is easy?” (It’s amusing to know that she speaks from experience.)

2)YS’s father sees photos of her and SH together, and he is most displeased that instead of the President, his daughter is dating the Secretary.

This segues into the episode of the very low production value, “Be Strong Geum Hui” where Gwang Bok reveals he has registered his marriage to Geum Hui.

It seems like the YS-SH and the HR-TM situations are being paralleled. Show trolls us into thinking that they may have the same trajectory as Geum Hui’s makjang setup where the rich man’s father dies out of shock that his son would marry a poor girl and because he lost the merger deal.

Show is managing to bring together all the situations for the richest amount of conflict, heading into the penultimate episode. It has repeatedly foreshadowed rejection for our OTP relationship, but because it has done it often, I’m more at ease knowing that it’s just the high-level conflict prelude to the happy ending. Whether Show will turn the situation around in a clever, interesting, twisty trope way or in a cop-out easy way remains to be seen.

    ===
What I liked about Ep 10
The reverse trope where the woman protects the man under a sunshiny yellow umbrella.

TM is quick to put 2-and-2 together. He seems to gather that HR is not behaving as ‘usual’ and he consistently observes her so that he realises that her actions changed according to whether the rain was falling or not.

TM brings his lack of courage up first and HR does not need him to explain his painful trauma, instead comforting him with a hug and a pat. She showed him that she accepted him as he was.

After the dinner, they walk outside and I love that the shape of the lights behind our OTP changes to hearts and sharpened instead of being a bokeh. It brought their love into sharp focus.

HR hugs TM goodbye, but as she walks on she foresees that the meeting she’s about to attend with Grandfather, will erode the hope and the happiness she had just experienced with TM. It had been a nebulous hope to her all along, and this is aptly symbolised by the gradual vanishing of the bouquet of flowers. She meets Grandfather at last without any disguise and without even TM (or his flowers) to hide behind, unlike her first meeting with him as Geum Hui.

  65. @GB, beautifully described! my heart skipped a beat when Hari put out the umbrella to shelter Taemoo. It was really very touching. My heart skipped another beat with when Taemoo knew all along and kissed her.

I started this drama thinking this was going to be just a fun, shallow story. I never thought I was so touched by our main leads. How Hari comforted Taemoo – without him uttering a painful word is so full of tenderness.

The show has more originality than I thought!

  66. Dear @Fern,

Kalimera! Thank you for telling me about the flower and the link!

I was frustrated last night, because on the webtoon nothing of this happens.
Tae Moo was never in a car accident, it was Sung Hoon instead. THey used it for a specific arc.

Haraboji was very fond of HaRi. Hari’s parents also liked TaeMoo.
So, I don’t like that angst one breath before the ending, when the story was so light in the beginning, even though it’s a trope.

I don’t know to tell you if a flower’s meaning is different in other countries. 🙂

  67. Good morning or evening everyone. Thank you for clarifying the meaning behind the dissolving flowers. I’ll take a leap of faith and think that they intended to drive but didn’t and that TM went back to work to fetch his car before getting the message about Ha-ri meeting with his grandfather.

I agree with everyone’s notes above. In regards to tropes, at least it wasn’t the truck of doom, right? And if there is amnesia, perhaps TM has honed his acting skills well enough to fake it – to protect Ha-ri? That would be a laugh.

  68. On a different note, I am struck by Ha-Ri’s circles of support. We talked about friends. The role she plays in her family, with her colleagues and amongst her friends – seems to be the same one – the giver, the upbeat supporter, the reasonable one, the peace maker (see how she behaved re Min Woo’s competitive girlfriend etc).

I do wonder how someone with her personality emerged from that family (!) but that aside, I love that she is being pursued, valued and given to, done for by Tae Moo!

It is hard for her to receive and she is thrown into adorable confusion by his wonderful directness and clever use of teasing and language too (‘You are cheating…’ etc

When he gets the support he needs from Ha-Ri – that is Ha-Ri doing what Ha-Ri does best and comes naturally. She is attentive to people and thinks of others.

  69. I think that is why I want Ha-Ri to be as shiny and confident as she should be and why I am delighted to see her nicely dressed and looking like TM’s counterpart. She has not had her true value reflected back to her thus far… witness too the awful response of MinWoo.

  70. And… on reflection … it was Ha-Ri’s indebtedness due to her family situation, that led her to be open to the suggestion of her impetuous and self-centred bff! So her non-ideal family and friends are, in fact, catalytic – Cinderella style – of her meeting her true love…we hope

  71. The umbrella date was really a sweet one, one HaRi specially made for TaeMoo. That kiss at the restaurant after listening to her talk was my favourite of all their kisses. It is as if his heart swelled at realising how thoughtful she was at his fears.
I remember Taemoo’s phrase “It would be tasteless if I bragged about it”. And because she hid her intentions from him and his realisation made his heart swell. That scene was really heartwarming.

I also love how Hari hugged TM in understanding about his fears.

@GB, Choi Byung-Chan who plays Hamin is an idol too, from Victon. I first saw him on King’s Affection as a cool bodyguard. He did quite well there. So when I saw that scene I had to laugh at the meta because BOTH of them started as idols!
They both competed at Produce 101 with Sejeong competing in the first season and ByungChan competing in the 2019 one called Produce X 101. Interestingly they are almost the same age, with SeJeong older by 1yr.

  72. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@grace, yes I liked those scenes too for the same reasons.

LOL. I thought Choi Byung Chan looked like he could be an idol. He had the look. So he is!! Double meta!

  73. @Kate I agree it is Cinderella trope but with a softer version. The parents and brother seem more loving. The little brother is supportive (brother in law!). I think pm3 and GB wrote it in the Tropes and Metas post on Cinderella’s trope and her shoes. To continue this trope, Taemoo even bought her shoes in ep 9 and she left one behind in the bathroom.

Hari has a beautiful personality. Love life aside I really like her work ethics – she didn’t give up trying to make a better version of Kimchi ravioli and didn’t even bad mouth Taemoo unreasonable requests.

When she said she has the best morning after the breakfast date, I believe her (her friends and MW)! She probably wasn’t that spoiled by anyone before and I felt she deserves it! I think they are on true love trajectory: I like their relationship because:

    1. They are good at listening at each other, even the unspoken words.
    2. Once they started their relationship, they are mostly honest and open with each other about feelings, even the deepest fears
    3. They take actions to resolve conflicts and comfort each other.
    4. Like @Eureka said, Taemoo doesn’t push Hari

Without the status difference, they could be just two young people who met through blind date, found attraction and commonality and grow into love.

In case you are interested in the Eng Subbed BTS, I found this collection! We see more the natural personalities of our leads. In between lines there could be light spoilers in the latest BST. 🙂

  74. Agreed @Viva… thank you for these further thoughts… love what you write about their relationship. Couldn’t agree more.

Re Cinderella, I clearly missed that particular tropes and metas discussion and comments. I’ll do a search – so many great themes being discussed at the moment and I don’t want to miss stuff.

Her family is ok… but I haven’t warmed to them the way I have warmed to families of origin in romantic comedies before.

The link you kindly sent took me to an interview with the actor who plays the 2nd ML.

  75. Hi everyone,,
I like the date between HaRi and TaeMo in episode 10. It was beautiful. And I can see how lovely HaRi’s personality too. She is caring and her cheerful upbringing personality made the gloomy rain become brighter. I think her goal was to make another good memory to replace the Taemo’s bad memory of rain… Little by little.

Since Haraboji loves his grandson so much. I think he will realize and finally gave his blessing when he see that Ha Ri is proven to make Tae Mo a better person. I just hope that Haraboji would not be too mean towards Ha Ri, I also hope that Haraboji could notice just how lovely Ha Ri is.

Next week is our final episode right? I wish we have a fun and loving ending 😀

  76. Thanks for that link @Viva. Made my day. 🥰

I’d like to think we won’t get too angsty especially towards the last two episodes. I don’t think Haraboji will be against our HaTae couple for long. He just needs some time and I’m sure he’ll acknowledge later how great a combination they are especially with their interests in food. ☺️

For the first time I’d like to pray to the drama Gods for a happy happy happy ever after WITH a baby. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I’d love to see it. 🥰 Expectations down though. 😂

  77. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@moonstar, Exactly! It occurred to me too that HR might have been making new rainy day memories with TM, so that he’d hopefully transition to being able to drive in the rain. Or even if it wasn’t deliberate, that’s what it will amount to for TM. The next time it rains, he will hopefully think of a romantic subway ride, a sea of pretty flowers or crispy jeon/pancakes? snacks with his beloved Ha Ri.

  78. Hello! There’s this English BTS on Instagram where Kim Sejeong is interviewing Ahn Hyo Seop, she asked if Tae Moo is comfortable in showing his body to Hari, referring to the scene where Tae Moo need to change his clothes in Hari’s room. AHS being an introvert (according to gossip), but it’s Tae Moo who answered that everyone has a different standard of a beautiful body, he mentioned something like he is comfortable with his body but not sure if Hari will like it. He added that at the last episode it’s okay to show his body to Hari and she said beep beep (sensor was late!).

We could probably see more of Tae Moo’s skin (or even some parts of his body!) in the last episode. Sorry I got a dirty mind for this show.

  79. @Cleopatra, I’m watching Dr. Romantic 1 right now. Han Suk Kyu’s voice resonates so beautifully; I love listening to Master Kim even when he’s chewing out his mentees.

@swiss_postscripts, it is hard to believe the actor who plays funny Mr. Gye recently played a chillingly evil man in Bad and Crazy (Lee Dong Wook’s most recent star turn in a Kdrama). His mixing of the soju bombs in episode 10 was the best display of such showmanship I’ve seen since Kang Dan-I (Lee Na Young) did it in Romance is a Bonus Book (episode 4, starting at time mark 4:47).

I want to mention another part of South Korean drinking culture I’ve noticed watching Kdramas: sometimes after someone downs a glass of beer, a shot of soju, or a bowl of makgeolli, they’ll sprinkle the remaining drops onto their head. Tae Moo does it at the department dinner. It seems to be a good-willed gesture that fosters camaraderie, but I haven’t been able to find information about it.

Mention has been made above about HaRi’s problematic family. There’s no doubt they love each other, and the parents work hard, but I worry about:
–Hari’s younger brother. He tends toward laziness, not being a willing helper in the chicken shop. And why did he steal money out of the cash register in his parents’ shop?
–Hari’s father is not a clever business man. And what’s with leaving cash in the till after the close of business?
–Hari’s mother is physically abusive (as are many moms in Kdramas), loud, and complains a lot. Hari may have gotten some of her outspoken craziness from her mother, but her empathy must be a trait she got from her father.

The peril faced by Tae Moo while driving at the end of the episode was a combination of two tropes: the truck of doom, and the delivery motorcycle that causes couples to fall into a hug. I’m hoping that getting into, and surviving, a car accident will be therapeutic for Tae Moo, helping to ease his deepest fear.

I’ll miss this show after it wraps up next week. As several others have said, I started watching expecting it to be a breezy, predictable romp, but have been pleasantly surprised. Despite the madcap antics required by this being an adaptation of a webtoon, I find Hari and Tae Moo one of the more enjoyable couples I’ve watched in Kdramas. And like you, @agdr03, it takes effort to not ship Kim Se Jeong and Ahn Hyo Seop!

  80. @Packmule3, my comment is awaiting moderation. I wonder why? This time I didn’t load it with links.

  81. @Welmaris,

Re. tipping the soju glass or makgeolli cup over one’s head…

I was told that to show that you’ve finished the drink offered to you till the last drop, you’re supposed to shake the glass/cup over your head.

But my Korean isn’t that good and I didn’t have my interpreter with me, so I might have misunderstood what I was told.

  82. I don’t know why, @Welmaris. I scanned through it but I didn’t see anything wrong. “Soju” “makgeolli” and “bomb” are NOT on my banned word list, so I don’t know what triggered the block. Anyway, it’s out there already.

    Sorry about that.

  83. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3 Yes, I believe your interpretation is correct. I can’t find reference to this bit of drinking culture so far though. But it is polite to finish off the first shot, and to prove that it’s empty, one should dare to turn the glass upside down over one’s head. That’s my guess.

  84. I suppose that drinking mannerism doesn’t extend to shaking a wine glass or a scotch tumbler over one’s head, as those type of drinks are meant to be savored, not slugged down.

  85. I just made myself laugh thinking about a fish-out-of-water scenario for some hapless Kdrama character. I have seen in some shows onlookers’ shocked faces when someone quickly chugs a glass of wine. Can you imagine their reaction if that was followed by the overhead glass tip?

  86. @Welmaris, the fish out of water scenario. 😂

I’ve gone and listened to some OST of the show and I like these ones.

  87. @agdr03, in case you haven’t seen it – there is this nice cut of archaeopteryx done by the Swoon. 😂

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CbtwwqKgcTs/

  88. @Viva, AHS will always be an archaeopteryx ❤️ to me. 😂

    Thanks! ☺️

  89. @Welmaris,

I really really like Han Suk Kyu! His aura is so unique. His voice along with his ministrations are so good! I am currently watching Dr. Romantic Season 2!

    @Viva

Sijosae? Archaeopteryx and sound effect what a great combo! I will record this for my messages ! LMAO!

  90. Ha, I’ve taken part in wine drinking games – there’s even a song – that involve chugging rather than sipping and appreciating. Mind you, this was back in my adventurous exchange-student days in Burgundy. VERY long ago.

  91. Blast. I’ve just tested positive twice. Feel fine but have runny nose.

  92. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My dear @Fern, even with the mild disease, do take care and rest well. You don’t want it to progress into something more and become ‘long Covid’.

I’ve had my usual nose problems and sore throats but so far that’s all they were.

Mask wearing is now optional outdoors, over here, at last, but most of us prefer to keep them on for convenience sake, since we need to be wearing them indoors.

I hope your nose feels better soon.

  93. Thank you, @Growing Beautifully. My daughter had the same symptoms. Took repeated tests for several days but didn’t have a positive. When my symptoms started, I took LFTs for 2 days and they were negative, too. I’m in a study of Covid vaccines and they suggested during a routine call that I take a LFT again. Good thing, eh?

  94. @Fern, I’m hoping your symptoms remain mild, that you recover fully and quickly, and that the other members of your family are spared. As @GB says, do get lots of rest.

  95. @Fern – take care of yourself. I hope you can get good rest. What a pain… but there is so much of it about at the moment!

  96. @Fern,

I do hope your symptoms will remain mild and you will be okay…
Please take care of yourself and get rest!

  97. Get well soon, @Fern! 💐💐🌷🌷

  98. Sending you hugs @Fern.

Rest up and hopefully we’ll get something from the vaccine research. 🙏🏼

  99. Thanks, all. It’s more annoying than anything else because I don’t feel unwell at all.

  100. Feel better soon @Fern!!!

  101. @Fern, hope you recover quickly! Please take good care. If it is any comfort to you, I read last week that Sejeong has COVID now too, and is also recovering. Hope you won’t have any lasting side effects.

@Cleopatra, so glad you are watching Dr. Romantic 2! All the characters fit their roles well. I hope we will be able to discuss Dr. Romantic 3 here when it is out, hopefully later this year!

Looks like Sejeong and AHS have both gotten leading roles in upcoming romantic comedies as well. Glad they are doing well. They are so young (25, 26) and have such bright futures ahead of them! I recently heard Sejeong’s song “Flower Way”and hope she does walk down the flower path since she’s had a hard life and has chosen to continue to improve and be optimistic despite all the hardships she has experienced.

Speaking of which, I read Kim Seonho is in Thailand now…guess he is “back.” There’s something about him that isn’t genuine, can’t quite put my finger to it.

And today is the day when BinJin got married! Crash Landing on You was my first Korean drama and it was while wanting to read more about it, I stumbled on BOD–and my life has never been the same again. I relished Packmule3’s analyses and everyone’s insights and commentaries, and was introduced to other Kdramas here as well.

Life has been challenging the past few years, and BOD has been my ray of sunshine, solace and happy place!

    Thank you friends!

  102. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi there @Hatlady, I’m glad we can be here for you and anyone else who’d like to take a break from the ‘real world’ for a while, to just chat ‘bitchily’ about dramas. You know you can come by anytime and will be sure to be read. As I’ve always believed and treasure hearing: you are not alone!

    Long distance hugs!
    GB

  103. Thank you for the kind wishes, everyone. I just had a lovely nap; didn’t even need it, but whatever.

I really loved the wedding photos of BinJin. They look so natural and happy together.

  104. @Cleo, yes that is a good one to watch 🙂 An instant mood lifter! I love the animation so much. I forgot about the big archaeopteryx in the earlier episode, so I was laughing all over again. Does Hari still name Taemoo Sijosae in her phone? I need to compare screenshots.

@Fern take care! Hope it stays mild for you. Rest well and keep the fluids up 🙂

@Hatlady, our leads are busy! Good to see they have their next projects lined up already. Since Some day or One day is so popular, there would be a huge expectation, people will compare and so on. I am excited as I haven’t watched Some day or One day (although I spoiled myself with the plot and ending). It will be interesting to see if they can deliver a different vibe and ending.

By the way @GB, how was your son?

  105. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, I’m glad to know that you’re still feeling well. Are you isolating at home?

@Viva, thank you for asking. My son didn’t have Covid although his colleague did. Yet at the time, just after he’d lunched with his colleague, he did have fever for a couple of days, but the doc tested him and it was negative for Covid. He recovered without any problem, very quickly (being young and all!). We are very thankful! 🙂

  106. swiss_postscripts

@fern: get well soon! i do hope you at least get enough fresh air during isolation -hug-

@welmaris @cleopatra: on the collective encouragement of this thread I also just started on dr romantic season 1 – love it! dolman hospital lobby looks like the lobby of the hospital in Its Ok Not to be Ok. DR helps to fill in the gap for Weds-Fri before the final two episodes of BP and 25,21, and beyond.

@hatlady: like you, CLOY was also one of my first forays into kdrama (hence my moniker which I adopted after deciding to delurk and post something). am super thankful for this community too! and super happy for binjin!

  107. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @pkml3
Please open a thread for the last 2 episodes of Business Proposal. Thanks!
