Prayers for OldAmericanLady and Her Husband

There’s sad news from dear @OldAmericanLady.

Hi, will be absent for a time and will be lurking as a distraction. My husband went to the ER on Thursday and as a result, we are now looking at a cancer diagnosis. So I’m preoccupied to say the least. Will watch and read you when I get the chance for pure distraction and for some sanity. You all are treasures. Please pray for us.

Please keep her and her husband in your prayers and let’s send them our positive energy.

  6. @OAL – a good friend who went through a serious illness with his child told me after when he found out randomly that someone he didn’t know had been praying for his family – “You just never know who has you in their prayers and it’s more people than you think.” Sending healing prayers to your husband and prayers for strength to you. There are prayers from around the globe headed your way.

I am thinking since last night, that we – B.O.D.’ers – are so connected with one another. I saw @OAL’s comment while I was outside on my email notifications and I answered at once.

And yes, praying and positive thinking helps.
So, my dear @OAL, we are all here for you, whenever you are able to contact us. Please take good care of yourself. <3

@OAL, like @agdr03, I’ve included you, your husband and your family in Prayer, as offered at Holy Mass today.

  17. Old American Lady (OAL)

To the super best wonderful kind caring BODers, the regulars and our fearless leader, @packmule3,@Kate,@GrowingBeautifully,@Janey,@Cleopatra,@Kate@WEnchanteur, I am so grateful for your prayers and good wishes. My husband will have his biopsy today and I have been told that the results should come in a few days later if it’s in a malignancy. They have to type the tumor including its DNA for treatment purposes. You learn a lot that you would not have known. There bearer treatments that are targeted to tumor type. So your prayers are helpful. I also want to say that hospitals are international communities with staff from all over the world as well as patients. It is heartening to see how in this community everyone works well to help patients. If only the world worked that way.

When I settled down last night I watched Yumi’s Cells2 to cheer me up. I was glad I did. I did catch something funny. There was a whole thing showing all of Yumi’s clubs including two fan clubs for Lee Min Ho and Gong Yoo. So meta and funny.I think Gong Yoo got the better reaction. So Yumi 2 is now my go-to happy distraction.

I am thankful to you all for being so kind like a blessing. You are the spirit of living kindness disguised as Bitches…💐🙏❤️

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m so glad to hear from you @OAL. Please keep us updated if you can.

What a lovely idea… to have the whole world work as well as the microcosm of the hospital with its international community, all bent on the same objective: to improve the quality and length of life. It affords us hope, that it can at least be found in hospitals. If only it could extend beyond the walls.

Yes, wasn’t Yumi’s Cells2 fun. I’m definitely in the Gong Yoo club, LOL.

  19. @OAL – glad you enjoyed Yumi 2!

So good to hear from you.

  20. Annyeong,

This brought a tear to my eyes…

I join you in prayer for @OAL and her husband 🙏🏽 praying for a miracle… there is nothing impossible with God.

@OAL, i love the fan clubs of Yumi ~ hilarious. so glad Yumi’s cells cheered you up. They are a hoot! Stay strong in the Lord as we all wait with you…

  21. Dear @OAL,

It is so good that we have your news so soon!
Please come by whenever you can. We will be waiting for you <3

P.S. I am also, in Gong Yoo's club. As you all know he is the Ahjussi of my 💖❗❕

  22. Thank for sharing your updates @OAL. Praying for the best results. 🙏🙏🙏
I know it’s not easy to openly share news like this and I respect those who do and those who want to keep it private. I hope you find solace in this group and ease your worries even for a little. 💗

I love the concept of cells fan clubs! Count me in Gong Yoo fan club, pls! It was mentioned that our many “likes” get whittled down as we get older. Even for restaurants, I noticed we do standard orders and not as “adventurous” on choices, unless prodded on. I feel my age. LOL!

  23. Dear @OAL,

I am sending prayers for healing, hope, and strength for you and your husband.

  24. Old American Lady (OAL)

Thank you @Snow Flower, Your kindness is much appreciated.

  25. Dear @OAL,

May God give you and your husband the strength to deal with this. May you not feel alone in this as he is with you every step. Whenever there is time of uncertainty of the future, please know that he is with you to face it.

  26. Oh dear @OAL, I am sad for you and your husband. Very hopefully for a clear diagnosis and good prognosis. I’m so glad you have a safe haven here. It seems everyone loves a group project so if you have a question or request about anything from cancer to plants to recipes to drama recommendations, feel free to ask. I feel this place is a healthy distraction. If only we had a secret handshake or pin to wear so we’d recognize each other out in the wild. I do hope you’re also able to connect to someone at the hospital so you can have in person discussions and recaps…or maybe you could recommend a few shows to someone you see struggling and in need of diversion. Thinking of all your past comments—you’ve always provided an interesting viewpoint, have been open to other opinions and learning new things, and appreciated the differences in others—leads me to think you’ll be able to roll with whatever comes your way in the future.

  27. Hello BOders! Praying with you all for @OAL and her husband… and for all those who need prayers. It’s BTS time – Believe, Trust, and Surrender to God’s will.

  28. @AOL -many blessings to your husband’s road to better health. Stay strong for each other.

I want to name you all because I believe in the power of group wishes and prayer and I do not want to omit anyone. So here goes.thank you @Good Twin, @moonstar, @Eureks, @birdie007, @Vuva and @HK_Lady. You have alp given me lots of hope and inspiration.,And to all the BOD posters here, you are what makes this blog so special because you care about people and each other. 37. Dear Old American Lady,
I am really sorry to hear about your husband! Praying that God will give your family peace and wisdom as you find out the diagnosis and prognosis and make decisions about treatment options (if needed). Also praying for kind and skillful doctors and nurses and that you will all be mentally and emotionally strong during this time as well. Of course, praying for healing as well.

Please take good care of yourself!

Please keep us updated if you would like so we can walk this path with you.

    With love and prayers,
    Hatlady

  38. Old American Lady (OAL)

@nrllee, Thanks for your supportive thoughts. Currently on a roller coaster but the BOD community has been a Godsend.

  39. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Miracle23, Thank m you so much. You and our BOD community are a source of great comfort. You keep me going.

  40. Old American Lady (OAL)

Thank you @HatLady, your good wishes mean so much to me. Hospitals are good places but I now realize 2hy patients are called by that nam3. They need patience. My husband has great nurses, who are a group that are unsung. I now have even more admiration for these caring, Humane people. We are definitely lucky to have them. Again, many thanks for your kindness.

  41. @Old American Lady, has he not been allowed to be discharged? I was hoping that he could at least get home to digest what the doctors are finding out about his condition.

  42. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Fern,He had a procedure to relieve the he condition he presented eith-gall stones and at the same time they did his biopsy
The treatment caused some complications so he is still in. I suspect that he,_ll come home in a few days and then we’ll make some decisions
The pathology report is still out. I might have said it on BOD, but now I realize why I’ll people are called patients. And you have to know how to nucely ask for things and get explanations because you will otherwise be kept in the dark.So we are politely asking about his condition, treatment plan, etc. Some operative words are Standard of Care and protocols. I’m learning fast. And there are no VIP rooms as we’ve seen in K Dramas
I am climbing a steep learning curve and am optimistic about getting a better prognostic s than expected. I’ll also say that if any BODer is a nurse, I send big kudos. The nuses are wonderful, smart, compassionate, mechanically inclined, and work tirelessly. They are my heroes.

  43. Gosh, it sounds like a steep learning curve. Even being able to know the right questions to ask seems like it could be a struggle. 😣 I hope that the complications ease and your husband can be comfortable soon.

-Still praying for him and you and your family. I’ll add his nurses and doctors, too.

  44. Praying for you and your husband’s continued strength OldAmericanLady

  45. The hospital seems to be of good quality. Best wishes for courage in the face of this ordeal, and my best thoughts for you and your family.

  46. Old American Lady (OAL)

#ExWriter, Thank you for your message of support. The beautiful BOD community is s helping me with your messages of be compassion and BB strength.

  47. Old American Lady (OAL)

@WEnchanteur and the great BOD support system, It’s looking like my husband is a candidate for curative surgery. That is great news for this type of cancer. I think we got it early. Your prayers and good wishes are working.

I’ll keep you posted on his progress. Most of all thank you for being the kind and caring people that you are, hiding in bitch clothing.

    🙏❤️🎉😊

  48. Very good news @OAL! Bless you. That must help a lot.

Thanks for this update and do keep us posted.

Thinking of you and holding you in prayer.

No pressure to respond to this – you have enough on your plate!

    xx

  49. Oh that’s promising to hear, @OAL!

Hope you can grab some rest when you can. Eat and drink when possible. 🙂

  50. Dear @OAL,

Kalimera ! That are good news !I do hope that everything will turn out for the best… Yes, you continue to be in my prayers and thoughts!

Please take good care of yourself as well! 💚

  51. Dear @OAL,

You will be in my prayers. I have not posted anywhere except on the W Two Worlds blog, and am relatively new to the BOD group. I have seen your posts on occasion (reading old blogs). I saw this last night as I was reviewing what @WE posted for the W re-watch and woke up this morning thinking I should post here as well. My husband was diagnosed with cancer just over 14 months ago and started treatment a year ago. Reading between the lines, I am guessing it is a different type of cancer than your husbands, so I may not have much to offer, but what I would still be happy to offer what little I can. My husband’s prognosis was good to begin with and he is now doing well, but even so, the road has not always been easy. If you would like to chat offline, perhaps we can exchange emails. I would be happy to offer what support I can.

@packmule3 feel free to share my email should @OAL desire.

  52. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@OAL, that’s good news. Yes, we’ll keep praying!!

@salteddust, what a kind offer to @OAL. Thanks!

  53. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @salteddust, Thank you so much for your kind offer. I don’t want to burden you given your own husband’s situation. If I reach a point where I get really down, I’-ll take you up on the offer.

I am happy to meet you here.BOD is magical when it comes to lovely people. You are one if them. 5hank you so much.

  54. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GrowingBeaut7f7llyand@salteddust, A great example if the wonderful members of BOD.

  55. @OAL, no problem at all. A couple of weeks ago we got really positive follow-up news so I can now look up and around a bit. You do not have to wait until you are really down to contact me. In fact I would recommend taking advantage of whatever online or in-life services you have available while/when you have the brain-width access them (does not have to be me — :)). It can really make a difference. Give yourself permission to rest. I am glad you are watching Yumi cells2. Take care.

  56. @OAL, I was glad to read on another thread that your husband has begun treatment and you have reason for hope. Fighting!

@salteddust, I’m also glad to read that your husband has gotten good follow-up news. Light at the end of the tunnel!

  57. @OAL, I haven’t seen much from you this week. Perhaps we’re on different threads. I hope that things are going as well as possible. You and your family are still in my thoughts.

  58. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Fern, it’s been pretty hectic. My husband is going for presurgery clearances and tests. If all goes well he’ll have this complicated surgery on July 11. It is potentially curative, but given his cancer, we still have to face the odds However, there have been successes and the hope is that it will prolong his life with a decent quality of life.

For distraction I have been watching Yumi’s Cells2 and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. They are both good mind clearers and the second drama is about a young attorney on the autism spectrum. My Yumi comment is that long distance relationships are doomed, even with hi the “perfect” boyfriend. I was never a team Babi or Won’t. Our editor in chief is interesting but he is not in the hot male lead category. He has in a way been carrying the torch for Yumi since college and his cells are hot macho men unlike by our previous MLs cuties. So I’m here for battery charging distraction that helps a lotThank you @Fern for your message of kindness. It helps to keep me going and I’m in this for the long haul.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @OAL, I’m glad to read you and to hear that the surgery is potentially curative. More prayers are in the offing!! 😃 🙏 🙏

  60. Hey dear @OAL good to listen from you!

Your husband and you are in my thoughts and prayers!

  61. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Growing Beautifully, Thank you for your kind words and prayers. They help a lot.

  62. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Cleopatra, Thank you for thinking of us and praying for us. It is very comforting to hear from the BOD family.

  63. Kalimera my dear @OAL,

I am glad to see you online! <3

  64. Thinking of you dear @AOL. I agree kdramas help a lot (though I have not been able to watch any with endings that are too dark :)). I will continue to pray for strength for you and health for your husband.

  65. Praying for you @OAL and for hubby to pull through the complex surgery. 🙏.

  66. I’m still praying for your husband and you @OAL.

Be strong and take care. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

  67. swiss_postscripts

Dear @OAL, continuing to uphold your husband, yourself and family in prayer. may God’s peace and presence be your anchor through these times.

  68. Dear @OAL, thinking of you now and thank you for the update. Agreeing with the prayers above!

  69. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Kate, Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I am so grateful for the moral support of BOD. You all give me strength to be there for you husband.

  70. @OAL – bless you! Sending you a hug from London. x

  71. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Cleopatra, sending you many thanks. And I cannot forget @ swiss_postscripts, @agdr03, @nrllee, @salt3ddust, who all are keeping my spirits up. K Dramas, C Dramas and Asian content introduced me to this wonderful, kind group of people. If I have failed to respond to you individually, please know that your thoughts and prayers make my days better. I will try to answer everybody. Thanks don’t begin to express my gratitude to you.

  72. Dear @OAL,

I think that most of the regulars in B.O.D. are thinking of you… 💙
I do hope everything will go okay with your husband’s surgery.
    You are in my prayers…

  73. Dear Old American Lady,

Thinking of you on July 4th (it’s already July 4th here) and hope your husband’s surgery will be smooth and successful on July 11.

May God fill your hearts with peace!

    Take good care,
    Hatlady

  74. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Kate, My husband and I took a wonderful trip to the UK and have fond memories of London. Now that he is not well I am thankful for our happy memories. Thank you for your encouragement

@HatLady, Your prayers and wishes mean the world to me. As I don’t want to upset my husband BOD space has allowed me to say the scary words out of earshot so I don’t upset him.

  75. @OAL, you mentioned not being able to share your fears with your husband, not wanting to discourage him as he fights his own emotional battle. That is thoughtful, and you know your husband best, but maybe your being transparent about your concern will allow him to share his fears with you.

You two continue to be in my mind and heart.

  76. @OAL – how are you doing? I hope you are being well taken care of.

I hope it’s alright but I have asked for prayer for your husband – via a Roman Catholic religious sister – at Lambeth Palace (seat of Archbishop of Canterbury) where they are having a time of healing prayer during a service there tomorrow. The RC sister is part of a small religious community who live at Lambeth Palace and are there as an ecumenical presence.

  77. @OAL I hope the regimen of antibiotics you’re on is doing its job and reducing the infection in your appendix. It’s a blessing the problem was discovered before your appendix burst. May your health and strength soon return so you can focus on your dear husband.

  78. @Welmaris,

I haven’t seen @OAL online. Is she okay?

  79. Old American Lady ( OAL)

Hi @Selmaris, @Kate and @Cleopatra, Thanks to all your prayers and good a isles I am home from the hospital after a three day stay taking huge doses of antibiotics and fluids by IV and becoming a human pincushion thanks to appendicitis caused dehydration causing my Einstein to shrivel. Lesson learned, don’t ignore chronic pain or discomfort at the same site. Takecare of yourself. I’m now on a two week supply of horse pill antibiotics and dhortly thereafter will have laparoscopic surgery to remove my appendix.in the spirit of Yumi’s Cells I have put a c.kwn hat and Google eyes on it.

In other good news my husband had a laparoscopic procedure on his tumorsite and it is localized. He is now going to get t preserver chemo for two months or more and then the bestshrgery available for his cancer. We have hope that it will be curative. So I am strong to help him through his. Challenge. We are both feelng more optimistic. I thin a good mental attitude goes a long way.

So for the near future I’ll be back to watching K Dramas and commenting here for the joy of it.

I a.so want to say that the international hospital community with the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff made my day from Manesh the iv whisperer to Dr. Azab to ?ouisa, sweet nurse to Mr. Han who I spoke my two words of Korean much appreciation. If o ly the world a Ted that way!

See you soon in the comments section!

  80. Dear @OAL,

I just read from @Welmaris that you had a problem with your appendix! I was a bit shocked! I am glad to learn that you are much better even though you have to take meds. Please inform us about your surgery as well.

I am also glad to learn that your husband’s laparoscopic procedure went well too. I will continue to have you both in my prayers!

Stay strong and take it easy!

    Sending Love and good vibes…*

  81. @Cleo, she popped in on one of the threads a day or two ago, but I can’t remember which one.

  82. @OAL, if it’s not one thing it’s another. Prayers are powerful. 🙏🏼 I’m still doing that for you and your husband so I hope it can give you strength in mind and body. Take care, sending you 🤗.

  83. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@OAL, I’m glad to see this uplifting message from you. I always do believe in a good mental attitude. No matter the harsh realities, how we choose to view our experiences can raise us above the pain and challenges.

I must keep reminding myself of that too! Many hugs 🤗 and 🙏

  84. @OAL Never rains but pours. Thank goodness they got to the bottom of your troublesome appendix. Both you and hubby having laparoscopic procedures together. What were the odds? Glad that hubby’s cancer is localized and treatable with ongoing chemotherapy. Sending you good thoughts and prayers. 🙏

  85. @Welmaris,

I guess it was on Yumi’s Cells S2. I haven’t had time to see the latest episodes and comment on them. Thank you for the info!

  86. @Old American Lady, I am so sorry to hear about your appendix problems, but it sounds as though both you and your husband are getting the best treatment. I am very glad. You, your husband and the wonderful hospital staff who are taking care of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Btw, I am curious: how did Mr Han react to you speaking Korean? Did you tell him about watching k-dramas?

  87. Old American Lady ( OAL)

@Fern. I pointed at myself and said ahjummas and he pointed at himself and said ahjussi We laughed and I told him I was a big K drama fan and he got a big kick in our I go it. We talked about the Binjin baby and CLOY. Mr Han and I am had a nice interaction. I can say it was nice for BB us both because of I don’t think we meet many people like me who aren’t Korean in our hospital.

  88. @Old American Lady, that’s adorable. So he watches K-dramas as well? How surprised he would be to know about the people from all over the world who enjoy them and also discuss them through BoD website.

Gosh, I’ve yet to meet a Korean here in Devon. There may be a student or two at the university nearby, but no businesses or other reason for Koreans to live in this rather remote part of England.

  89. I wanted to ask if you are enjoying the attorney Woo drama. It’s being discussed unofficially a bit on BoD. Do you think it’s a realistic depiction of a person with a diagnosis of autism in the setting of a large law firm? I’m sure I’ve worked with some lawyers who had mild Asperger’s that let them function well enough, except to be both amazing and annoying to support staff, but Attorney Woo seems on a different level to them.

  90. @AOL I’m so so sorry to hear. Wishing for the best possible outcomes here, and sending prayers your guys’ way.

  91. Old American (OAL)

@Fern, in Devon, It’s wonderful to speak to you around the world. The hospital was a global village with staff from all over the world. That’s why it was so nice to meet Mr. HAN..It was so much fun. We have a big Korean Evangelical Church nearby that is also the meeting place for the American Korean War Veteran post. Our local dry cleaner is Korean but I wouldn’-t have the nerve to walk up to an Asian looking stranger on the street to ask if they were Korean. The hospital setting and the fact that everyone wore ID cards made it easy. And I think Mr. Han was happy that I was a fan. Where I live the other place where you can easily find Korean people and Korean Americans are the three public golfcourses.. I would never acost a player on the course. So it was serendipity in the best way after my stay being a human pin cushion. I don’t think I’ll get that opportunity again so I will enjoy the good memory.

  92. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Fern, I am enjoying Attorney Woo. Our FL is doing a wonderful job as was the little girl who played her as a child. The child’ s outburst is typical of a subset of artistically disabled people who are hyperlexic-never having to learn decoding to read.what it also showed is that she understood what she had read showing practical , receptive and expressive language that is not always the case. If you think of autism as a spectrum, then each autistic person will have unique strengths and characteristics. Each person’s different and the disability can be profound tomildwith lots of coloration in between. Our actress died wonderful research. She maintains her affect throughout and we see how she looks right from her gait to her hand movement to her gaze. She also is so sweet and her .ive of whales is so beautiful.y conveyed. She also is. Ecoming more self aware as the drama progresses. Nothing false here because autistic people can learn how to communicate better. I would gladly recommend this very goodbeargedcrama.

  93. @OAL—-i completely missed the appendix update. It sounds like you narrowly avoided a rupture! You and your husband seem to have coordinated timelines so you can have all your procedures done alternately. Your hospital/neighborhood sounds like a melting pot/United Nations. I’ve only ever known of one Korean in my life and last week I found myself getting so excited when I heard a boy call out “noona” to his older sister while we were traveling.
Since I’ve begun watching dramas, I don’t know many specific words of the languages, but I can now distinguish Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Thai/Vietnamese by looking at the writing and/or hearing it spoke—something I’ve never thought I’d be able to do with my lack of exposure in daily life.

  94. OAL, I’m so sorry to hear about everything you and your husband are going through, but I glad that you’ve had hopeful news. I mostly lurk here , but I always enjoy reading and learning from your posts. I’m also enjoying Extraordinary Attorney Woo. It’s my favorite of the summer. I’m a teacher and I’ve had students on the spectrum, though none like WYW. The only thing false to me so far, is that I don’t think the client in episode 3 would have ever been brought to trial. He obviously couldn’t assist in his defense. He would have been examined by outside experts as well as professionals familiar with him. ( This of course is based on my years of watching lawyers on t.v. and Legally Blond !)🙂 However, the episode advanced the story and was very moving.

    Best Wishes and continued prayers.

  95. @OAL , please be well. Big hug from Caracas. We were there in 2009 with Dad, regrettably he was in a later stage and the stooges that operated him removed the main tumor but didn’t refer him to an oncologist nor developed a treatment plan.

Please be on top of that and if you have children do not hesitate in asking them to help. If you have an M.D. friend or family member please make that person aware so you don’t have to go blindly through this. Sorry if I am being stressful but at this very moment you still have lots of power on the outcome (more than you imagine!!!). It will be a family battle which is good as stress and responsibilities can be diffused through all of you, you will have double checks on processes/things to do, and you will have each other.

I talk from experience (and a bad outcome). Will pray for you all.

We will be here to listen (read).

  96. @FGB4877, involving a friend who is an M.D. is such good advice, speaking from experience as well. Often when in that sort of drastic medical situation, one can’t take in all of the information that is being given prior to making decisions on treatment. Or one simply doesn’t know the right questions to ask. Having one more person listening and taking notes can be helpful; it’s even better if that person is medically trained. I’m very sorry to hear that things went badly for your father.

  97. @Fern, losing Dad was painful as hell. Even if I was a fully fledged adult at the time it was a terribly depressing period. What eventually got us out of our depression was a beautiful and joyful cat we later got, out of all things…

Here in Venezuela doctors used to be technically excellent (until they went out due to our crisis) and very able to think on their feet, but there is a saying that “a lawyer’s mistake gets jailed, a M.D.’s mistake gets buried and an engineer’s mistake is shown as a case study”. Here justice can be bought, twisted or ignored, so we are used to approach any service as an hostile entity that will get the best of us if we let them.

So this is the 101 of having an emergency in an hostile environment: ask for help and to be as aware as possible of what is really going on so smart decisions can be made. Hope it helps @OAL.

  98. Old American Lady ( OAL)

Dear FGB4877, Your experience with your Dad is heartbreaking
Even in countries with great medicine there are unscrupulous people. That’s why medical malpractice exists. We were lucky to have the help of my close cousin who is a doctor and med school professor. He helped us navigate through the system and even had phone contact in a meeting with the specialists
We knew that we were being treated well
My issue could have been serious but I got it treated on time so I could be there for my husband. For me it just became a nuisance. The good news is we’re back on track

One note is that my husband:s team included a nutritionist who is helping me build him up for chemo and surgery. We are hydrating and feeding him so he can better tolerate what comes next. I also was given a cookbook so I can give him variety. So that’s the news. @,FGB4877, I am thinking of you
I met a local college student from your country and know that it has been in perpetual crisis for a long time
Instability is not easy to endure, so my prayers are with you. Your good wishes mean a lot

  99. @oal and everyone else watching attorney woo. Someone on MDL posted a link to this deleted scene. I want to make sure you all don’t miss out
    https://youtu.be/Sd1MI8hm_SU

  100. @FGB4877, your words of wisdom come at a cost, as your grief has resurfaced. It never goes away, does it? Thank you for enduring that so you can share advice with our community. That was brave of you.

  101. Dear @OldAmericanLady, sending my best wishes to you and your husband…fighting 💪

  102. Dear @Welmaris, wisdom usually stems from experience. We make mistakes and in turn those mistakes *makes* us.

As far as grief, yes… those are the kind of things you don’t totally get over. You live through them and survive them, then if you are smart and lucky you can develop some wisdom and learn to appreciate your loved ones more.

  103. @OAL

A long time lurker here. Glad to read your latest post and wishing you and your husband well.

So glad you’re also enjoying EAW.

  104. @OAL Sending more prayers your way! I can’t even begin to imagine the physical and emotions strain this puts you and your husband. I pray that you continue to receive good news through and through.

I’m relatively new to BOD but I’ve experienced firsthand how this great community offered prayers for me in time of need. 🥰

  105. I am not active on BoD or watching dramas to tell you all the truth. But when Welmaris writes to me now and then, I feel so warm. It is as if people I’ve never met on this planet, genuinely care for me. Such is the group I’ve found here.

I’ll be praying for you @OAL. Of course for your husband, but also for you to find the mental and physical courage to keep fighting!

Much love from a distant corner of this planet,
    Me.

  106. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Arihsi, BOD is truly a special place. To all who have sent prayers and good wishes my way, you help keep my spirits up immensely.

We also must hope that our friends who are experiencing the worst heat wave find relief soon. While they wait I hope that they are hydrated, replenish their electrolytes and get through this. One of my relatives had a simple way to get some relief-keep hair off the neck and place cold compressed around the neck. When we had no air conditioning this provided temporary relief. You can keep these compresses in the refrigerator. Praying that the heat wave breaks…

  107. Thank you dear @OAL! I have my hair up and am wearing a tea towel round my neck as I type.

Avene Mineral Water facial spritzes are also nice… very Korean eh to spritz your face all the time?!

    xx

  108. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m sorry to hijack this thread… but may I ask all you who are praying folks to please pray for my father and mother-in-law. They both have Covid. FIL is recovering at home (with my family) and MIL is in hospital for other infection but also now has Covid and is in isolation there.

We worry for them and for ourselves, at the same time. Thank you in advance! 🙏 🙏 🙏

  109. @GB Unnie,

Oh no… 🙁 Of course I will keep you all in my prayers. I do hope everything will be okay in the end.

    Sending positive thoughts…*HUGS*

  110. @GB – will pray for them and for protection for those who care for them.

    x

  111. Old American Lady.( OAL)

@GB, Your inlaws are on my prayers. Just a see you all pray for me and my husband, we add your inlaws to the chainay they have a speedy recovery

  112. @Arihsi, how nice to read your words again. I hope that you and yours are well.

  113. @GB 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

  114. Sending prayers and wishes to @OAL, glad you are on the mend and it isn’t serious. Thankful that your husband has got good support from the hospital and from you too! Even in the midst of adversity, may you be blessed with joy and good memories.

Sending prayers for @GB too, that there will not be any complications especially that they are not young. Covid is harder on those who are older. We had a round of covid at home and it wasn’t so difficult for the kids who slept it off after 2-3 days. The adults had the remnants of coughing even after no longer positive.

  115. @Arihsi, we Bitches may be spread around the globe, and we may not have met in person, but we are friends. I understand you’re in a busy stage of life with an active young daughter, a career, husband, other family, etc. I imagine you feel you spend your days running around putting out fires. No “me” time!

Even if you can’t spare the time and energy these days to watch Kdramas or read BoD threads, we love hearing from you. It’s a treat for us when you drop in and let us know how you’re doing.

  116. @Old American Lady, are you well on your way to feeling like yourself? I do hope your appendicitis “adventure” is quickly receding in the rearview mirror.

It is interesting to read that your husband’s treatment is in stages: laparoscopic surgery, then chemo, then an another surgery. It sounds more nuanced that cancer treatments of the past. I don’t believe for a second that any of this is easy for your husband, but I do wonder if oncologists have figured out effective treatments that are less traumatic than previously.

I continue to keep both of you in my mind and heart.

  117. @GrowingBeautifully, may your mother-in-law respond well to treatment she’s receiving, and soon be moved out of isolation. Being alone in a hospital can be boring and disorienting; I hope she’s able to get lots of restorative sleep during her enforced “retreat.” And I hope your father-in-law bounces back to health so he can go see his wife when she’s allowed visitors.

As for you, dear @GB, may you feel the comfort of the peace that passes all understanding.

  118. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Many thanks to all of you who are praying for my family, those mentioned here and many others who are quietly praying: @Cleo, @Kate, @OAL, @Fern, @Birdie, @grace, @Welmaris, this means more to me than I can say.

Every time something a little different happens I check if someone is sick. Why didn’t you come down at the usual time? Why does the body ache? Why does he feel warmer than usual? And of course… all those plans to be doing work-work, volunteer-work, meeting people … up in the air, postponed or cancelled.

So thank you for your spiritual and emotional support. Hugs all around. We pray for each other. 🙏 🙏 🙏

  119. @GB, it sounds dreadfully stressful and rather lonely, too. But we just keep pushing on one day after another. Strange times. At least these days, many employers are more understanding about the effects of Covid on carers as well as personally on employees themselves. This too shall pass.

  120. @GB praying for your family and for you as you cope with the fallout. It’s amazing the domino effect of COVID (sickness, isolating) has on those who care for the sick. That and the added worry about every cough or ache that they get. All the while trying to run a household and work. Take care of yourself and take it a day at a time. Sending hugs 🫂 ❤️

  121. Unnie,

    💜

  122. @GB, so sorry to hear about your MIL and FIL. Hospitals in general are scary no matter how nice the nurses are, especially if you are old and weak. Both my mother and my father were prone to hospital-related dementia when they were hospitalized; the break in routine, the constant sound of machines, all the new people, the doctors rounding and a different set each day, all contribute to confusion and stress. I will add you and your family to my prayer list. I tend to forget until I get reminded on Sundays, prayers for the people (lol).

@AOL you and your husband are on my on my once-a-week prayer list. I think part of the difficulty of cancer, of any chronic illness, is how small symptoms we might gloss over in normal times loam so large and catastrophic at least in our heads. Its always good to look at the birds and the sky and the trees, to read a good book, and yes, watch a good kdrama. We need those times of rest and relief, however brief.

  123. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thank you so much @salteddust, @Cleo, @nrllee, @Fern.

Yes @salteddust, I like the Prayer of the Faithful at Sunday Holy Mass where the prayers of many are offered. It is more evident on Sundays, although we do also offer our prayers during weekday Mass.

What you all mention is true. We wait and pray.

  124. @oldamericanlady you and your husband are in my prayers. So sorry I’m so late. I couldn’t find this post when I saw it earlier. Sending you lots of warm hugs, light, and good energy.

Despite not knowing everyone, I do think about You all and wish you well.

@GB hope your inlaws are on the mend. Will add you and fam to my nightly prayers too. Sending you lots of warm hugs too and good energy.

I believe in prayer and the benefits of it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 Adding mine to everyone else’s

Don’t forget to take care of yourself first so you can take care of others.
    ❤️❤️❤️

  125. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Carolins, Thank you for your kindness and your prayers. Our BOD community has seen some challenges lately, between the horrible heat wave, parental and spousal illness. Speaking for myself I accept and cherish every prayer that comes my way and reciprocate them. Thank you and only good blessings to you all.
    .

  126. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you so much @Carolina. I can do with lots of warm hugs. I second @OAL in cherishing every prayer and praying for the lovely, warm community here. Blessings to all!

  127. I hope your husband’s treatments go well and that he will be in remission in the very near future.

I’m glad that you are there for him. I’ve been through cancer twice and my hubby helped get me through it with an abundance of compassion, love, and good humor–I really couldn’t have done it without him. I will be thinking of you in the coming days and sending healing thoughts.

  128. Old American Lady (OAL)

@BethB, thank you for th e encouragement. It is helpful to learn from the patient. Chemo is no walk in the park. The learning curve is steep. Right now I’m trying to get a lot of nutrition into my husband. I am trying to get a lot of small snacks v and meal replacements into him.itbis a big challenge but I’m up to it. I hope
D that you and yours stay well.

  129. I have been away for a while and wasn’t expecting to see this thread on the main page coming back! My thoughts are with both @OAL and @GB for the quick recovery of your loved ones. Comforting to hear you have a close medically-trained family member able to provide the appropriate advice for your husband, and I pray for his speedy recovery.

@GB hope your in laws are making good recovery from Covid and have also mentioned them in prayers.

  130. @Old American Lady, how has it been this week? Are you succeeding in getting your husband to eat nutritiously? It must be difficult in hot weather – or perhaps easier if juices and cool fresh veg. are on the menu. No soup, though? 😔 That would be my go-to absolute healthy food…

@GB, may your MIL find something to keep herself from boredom as she recovers. My MIL likes books on tape as she’s partially bed-ridden. Is that a possibility?

  131. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Wanderer thank you for your concern. I’m glad to say that my in-laws are indeed making a good recovery. We await news on whether my MIL can be discharged.

@Fern, thank you for your idea. It would certainly help her to have something to listen to, to while some time away.

Many thanks to all for your care and support, and your prayers for my family. I appreciate it very much. You have warmed my heart. Do take care of yourselves too. 🙂

  132. I have not been active of late, but logged in today to see many in sickness and wanted to send my prayers to all who are sick for a speedy recovery and good health and happiness to all.

  133. @angelwingssf, how nice to see you writing here again! I hope that you are well and thriving.

  134. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you @angelwingssf. I trust all is well with you. Yes we keep praying for a speedy recovery and to know what to do for the best. Take care!

  135. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Kate, did I read correctly, are you unwell? I hope this post finds you feeling much better!! Hugs and prayers! 🤗

  136. Old American Lady (OAL)

To BODers, First chemo done with some side effects and lots to learn. It is heartening to get your support and prayers. Am also praying for 6our families who are dealing with Covid to come out healthy and unscathed.

  137. @GB – just a bad stomach bug… I am fine now…though eating a little gingerly shall we say! (wry laughter).

  138. @Kate, get well soon. 🤞

  139. Kalimera Everyone! Have a nice August ahead!

my dear @OAL thank you for giving us information regarding your husband’s first chemo. You are in my prayers!

    @Kate get well soon!

@GB Unnie, I do hope everything is okay in your end too…

How I love that his place is a healing one and we are all whispering our fears and insecurities and the rest of the B.o.D’ers answer with love and caress…
Being grateful for this community! *Hugs*

  140. Thank you for the update, @Old American Lady. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  141. Thinking of you Old American Lady, glad to read your husband’s first chemo went smoothly. Praying all the sessions will go smoothly as well, with very few side effects. Please take good care!

Kate and GB, sending kind thoughts and prayers your way.

Thankful for this community and hope everyone stays healthy, happy and strong!

  142. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Hatlady, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate them very much.

Praying for you too, for a peaceful situation in your homeland and a reduction of tension all round.

Thanks Everyone for your prayers. The good news is that my mother-in-law is discharged and back home, and all’s well. I’ve felt so well cared for and supported because of you. Thanks for being such a warm and caring community!!

  143. Thanks for sharing the good new, @Growing Beautifully! Happy for you and yours.

  144. Great news Unnie! <3

  145. @GB, happy to read the good news!!!. Hope your MIL gets better, but happy she is discharged. It worries me that she was sick last year, so please keep an eye on her (as you usually do 😉 ).

@OAL, it is good to know your husband’s first chemo went well. It will be another routine to keep up with but eventually you will get the hang of it.

  146. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GB, so happy your MIL is back home.sending good vibes to you, your family and your MIL for good health and an easy time.

  147. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you @OAL, @FGB, @Cleo, @Fern. It’s a start of a new ‘series’ in life at home with MIL needing different care, but it’s wonderful to have a community cheering us on. Aja, aja fighting!!

I trust all will continue to go well with your husband’s chemotherapy, @OAL. Keeping you in prayer for your treatment as well.

  148. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. I’m down with Covid now. However the silver lining is that I have 5 days of Medical Leave, to watch some shows 🙂

  149. @GB – thinking of you now and sending you prayers for healing and smooth recovery. Enjoy the shows!

  150. Growingbeautifully

Thank you @Kate. I will certainly try!

I did try one episode of Big Mouth. I’m still not sure that it’s something I’ll watch all the way through. I’m sure to FFD difficult scenes of violence, however there are funny, quirky family scenes as well, and a bromance between father-in-law and son-in-law LOL that is too cute.

I don’t think we can approve of what they come up with, but they are hilarious in the execution.

  151. @GB – I was wondering about that show too. At the moment I am fully occupied show wise though. It will be interesting to know how you get on with it.

I think @WE said he will watch.

  152. Growingbeautifully

@Kate, you’re right, @WE did mention it. I thought at that time, that I might try it too.

4 episode have been aired so far. Tell you what, I’ll post bits of reviews on it here when I watch, so that you’ll have an idea about how I found it. It give me purpose in watchig, beside trying to while time away in isolation. Drama watchin becoms so much more purposeful!!! LOL.

  153. @GB – completely get it. That would be great!

  154. @GB… should add my empathy with you is due to having been stuck at home alone when I injured my ankle 4 weeks before the first lockdown in 2020 and then stayed in lockdown for a month or so after that. I couldn’t get out of the flat because I couldn’t get down the stairs. I was so grateful for faith that I was loved by God in this situation and secondly for K and C dramas! haha

  155. Growingbeautifully

@Kate, How horrible for you at that time. It’s good to know that you pulled through so much time alone and immobile. Yes, faith that all works to the good ultimately, buoys us through. Faith and lots of patience! Friends and warm support too… all are great gifts when we are feeling low.

I’m glad to say that my situation is not too dire. After 72 hours, if I test negative, I’m free to leave the house. I just should not interact with people too much. If I test positive still, then I can wait 7 days and officially it’s considered that the viral load is less at that time, so I can leave home. For those who are unvaccinated, they have to wait for 14 days.

I’m half way through Episode 2 of Big Mouse. It’s a mix of the gritty, ugly and the somewhat amusing. For a change we see a Lee Jong Suk who is an incompetent lawyer, bad at making decisions, or a maker of bad-decisions. I believe he’ll be an anti-hero, which is an interesting role.

Im Yoon Ah is better in this role as his wife, than I’ve seen her elsewhere. Although the show is about him, I fancy it’s the wife who’ll save the day in a big way. 🙂

  156. Ooh interesting! Yes, unusual for LJS!

Yes, I should have added that friends who visited were part of the deal too. But my close friends and family are not close to me here – all over London – so there was a lot of alone time. That’s where the dramas came in.

In fact, when I was full-time engaged in study at home as a mature student was the first time I got into the world of C-drama – 2017. So immersive with long series that it really helped with the isolation that you go through with further study.

  157. @GB – hope you test negative soon and that you can rest up at the moment and take good care of yourself.

  158. @Unnie,

Please take care of yourself. ❤️

  159. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Cleo, I am taking care of myself well. 🙂

Have a great vacation and break from work!!

  160. @GB Unnie,

    Thank you! ❤️

  161. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GB,please, I hope you have an easy recovery and get to have the time for well deserved rest.

  162. Growingbeautifully (GB)

Thank you @OAL, I am indeed taking my time and resting a lot in between concentrating on things. The great thing about being ‘sick’ is that I can stop what I’m doing and just go, lie/lay down LOL. No need to worry about deadlines for a week. 🙂

  163. I’m thinking about you and your husband, @OAL, wishing you both perseverance and comfort as treatment continues.

  164. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Welmaris. Thank you for thinking of us. My husband got his third round of chemo. The side effects are daintomg and the learning curve is steep. The doctors tell us he’s doing well given the nature of the chemo. He’s on the road and we’re optimistic. Streaming is a great distraction for us both.Heblujes several YouTubers who help us travel the world. And I have our beloved BOD and Asian Dramas. Both are immersive and aivget the benefit of the lovely people like you. I am happy to count my blessings.

  165. Kalo mesimeri !

Dear @OAL how are you? I have been thinking of you. I haven’t talked to you for a while. I do hope you are okay!

  166. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Cleopatra, It’s good to hear from you. I hope that all is well with you and that the weather has settled. I’m chugging along. My husband is now going through grueling chemotherapy that has left him suffering through side effects that I would not wish on anyone. My challenge is to keep him nourished and in good spirits. It is quite challenging and I take it a day at a time. The good thing is that I have some good friends and family to turn to for miral support and a very available team if doctors, nurses, social workers and dieticians.

I get my escape(recharge time) through K Dramas and other Asian Dramas and being a part of this blog. When I get the chance I am watching Good Job, Little Women and once Upon a Small Town.i need to catch up on Little Women and Good Job. I am finding Once Upon A Small Town very healing. When I’m at the hospital when my husband is having his treatments or doctor appointments I catch up reading BOD. I respond at a lot of times.

I will tell you that chemo has shot my husband’s taste buds but it hasn’t stopped him from dreaming about food and watching YouTube videos that are food related. Yesterday we watched a YouTube video by Here Be Barr who was eating Greek Food in the Astoria neighborhood in NYC and everything looked delicious. Our son eats there all the time. He likes the fish and the horta. I love the grilled octopus and the side dishes like tsatziki and taramousalata. When I want to go for the big calories I eat moussaka. I haven’t eaten out since the start of the pandemic so I only dream of this food. Our local diners are generally owned and run by Greek people so I can take out gyros and souvlaki here but am looking forward to my husband’s health to improve so we can go to Queens and enjoy the good stuff with our son. I am forever hopeful.

Thank you for your kindness and good thoughts.

  167. @Old American Lady, you’ve made me very, very hungry.

I pray that you and your husband are up to and successful with these challenges.

  168. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Fern, LOL-As they say I. k Dramas, I hope you get to eat delicious food.

  169. @OAL, your husband and you are engaged in serious battle. Considering the foe, it sounds like you are putting up a fierce fight. I think of you often, so appreciate the update. Hang tough!

  170. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Welmaris,As they say in K Dramas Hwaiting( fighting)…thank you for the encouragement!

  171. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hwaiting indeed @OAL!! I’m still with you in spirit and praying for you and your husband. You inspire me by just doing what you need to, want to, just by doing your best as a regular person, with love in your heart. Hugs and blessings to you!

  172. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GrowingBeautifully, Thank you so much.Today was a tough day but we got through it and learned a better way to handle pain and discomfort. We also reminisced about our life together and remembered favorite trips and meals and restaurants
Each day brings the good with the bad but we’re learning how to cope.Thank you for the support. It is nice to know that that what you say gives me strength to go on.

  173. My dear @OAL kalimera,

I am okay. The weather is fine in the capital and not so fine in other places of the country.

It is good to take one day at a time. It is more manageable this way. I continue to have you in my prayers and thoughts every day and I do hope this period will pass away pretty soon and your husband and you will be okay.

I wish for you to eat mousaka pretty soon and enjoy it. Even though, I don’t eat that dish that much. I haven’t eaten it for quite a while. I have eaten horta and taramosalata, but I am not eating tzatziki that much because my lactose intolerance makes me have an upset stomach afterwards. So, I am planning to recreate the receipe some with vegan yogurt though. I have missed it!

I hope to see you in another B.O.D. thread talking about a show!
    Take care of yourself too❣

  174. Dear Old American Lady, I think we must not be watching the same things, since I haven’t seen your comments. I hope that you and your husband are doing as well as possible and that it will continue that way. I like to see that you have a lot of support from the health care field. You stay in my prayers.

Mind you, I’ve not been watching much at all! I’ve been busy at work with all of the updates and protocols for the beginning of the school year. I’m supposed to retire on Friday. I stayed on through September because there was no one to replace me, but they have found someone now, so I can. At last!

  175. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Fern,Welcome to the world of retirement. So many are afraid of it but apart from our health issues(that are easier to deal with without outside work), we have never been bored and have had the chance to enjoy our interests. I have done a lot of volunteer work, was at one time a member of three book clubs and even reunited with members of my junior high class. I hope you have the good health to enjoy a long retirement.

My husband got some good news in that his tumor has been shrinking-nit dramatically yet but it is going in the right direction. It is a struggle but getting encouragement helps a lot.

I am watching once Upon As Small a town(love it for it’s simplicity), Good Job(I love Jung Il Woo and Kwon Yuri together and the diverting plot), Little Women(I get pm3’s criticism but like it anyway-am enjoying disliking the villainous family) and the Park Min young contract marriage drama. I like seeing 12 episode Dramas. These have been great distractions as us reading BOD entries on other Dramas. I am also watching the variety show with the casts of Itaewon Class, Love In The Moonlight, etc. It is fun to see these people doing silly stuff. These shoes have been respite for me. It helps to have streaming because I sometimes watch if I can’t sleep and if I think Of miss something I rewind.

Thank you so much for thinking of us Fern. I am in awe of your kindness.

  176. Aha, you are indeed keeping up with your dramas, from the sound of it. It’s a great diversion.

What good news that your husband’s tumor is shrinking! That is encouraging and I pray that it disappears soon.

@Fern, Many thanks. My medical social worker friends remind me all the time, that in order to be an effective caregiver, one needs to have respite. For me fifteen minutes to an hour of KDramas helps supply the energy for me to help my husband. The great part is that there are so many programs to enjoy that I’ll never have to run out of programs to watch. I still haven’t seen Dramas like Descendants of the Sun and there are also movies to see.

Now I’m going to feed my husband(lots of small meals all day long).

  178. Dear @American Old Lady and @Fern.

@AOL, I agree that KDramas provide respite. Although I have mostly been watching old dramas I had not yet seen (and some I have seen for the last little bit before I go to bed), I also have been watching Love in Contract. I thought I would hate it, but tried it, because, you know, Park Min-Young.. Instead I am thoroughly enjoying it.

@Fern, I have not been reading much of the BOD blogs because I have been too flagged because I too am about to retire! Mine is the week after next (last day in office Oct 18th); I decided to retire early. I have been trying to clean out 32 years of email and document what I can, but am realizing it is a Sisyphean task. I am about to go on a much needed and very short retreat, (just after watching the Liar’s rewatch tomorrow) and then, hopefully a 7 day drive with my husband to the West coast of the US with a long side trip through my home state, just a few days after my official ‘last day’. We did a shorter version this summer so hopefully he is up to it; he is still surprisingly fatigued even though it has been 10 months since his radiation treatment ended.

@AOL I will reiterate your medical social worker friends; respite is essential. I was caregiver for my parents just before COVID. They lived in assisted living due to dementia (both of them) but had so much in the way of medical needs that I did not put my first full week of work in until a full 4 months after they moved to my city. I would not have survived without friendly social services.

Glad to hear things seem to be going in the right direction! Take care.

@salteddust, Tha k you for the great advice. It helps a lot.on a happy note I hope you and your husband enjoy a long and happy retirement. My husband and I retired early and up until his illness enjoyed eve t ything about it. Even now, I shudder to think how difficult our life would be had we worked full time.

As for K Dramas, I am enjoying Love in Contract and Love is for Suckers. So far I like them both.

  180. @OAL, thank you for keeping us up to date with your husband’s treatment. I pray it continues to go well.

@salteddust, congratulations on your retirement. I hope that your trip goes very well and that you and your husband can cope with the drive.

We had planned a family trip to the west coast and Grand Canyon for the summer of 2020. Well, all I can say is thank goodness for pre-Covid travel insurance. I would love to visit the places I had lived before moving abroad.
