Thanks for the thread @pkml3! @Welmaris did mention that she might not be able to join us the last 2 parties. I hope she’ll be able to come for tomorrow’s party.
I, myself, will be out and can’t join in but I thought I’d post a thought or two today. 🙂
Episode 15 Recap of Sorts
The powerful rules of the world of ‘W’ determine where the three main characters end up.
KC’s desire to end the webtoon immediately results in the appearance of ‘The Final Episode’ chyron and the summoning by ‘W’ of all it’s characters. Once summoned, no one could return to the real world.
It’s very interesting that while KC disappears from the real world and reappears in ‘W’, it’s the other way around for SM.
SM was last in the real world. He can see that the manhwa has loaded the final episode and sees that YJ is alive. However the taxi he wants to take to KC’s hotel where YJ is, disappears in front of him. I would have expected that he should have disappeared and not the taxi.
He is suddenly in ‘W’ and the chyron appears in front of him as well.
Time skips again for YJ who has awoken in ‘W’, but suddenly finds that 1 year has past. In that one year, KC had been found by HCH, abandoned at a hospital and incarcerated in prison for murder. SM had taken on the Killer’s tendencies to attack with the aim to kill anyone, without warning, in just the way that Killer had taken on SM’s face. He ends up in a mental hospital/asylum for the year.
That one day in which YJ finds herself thrown forward in time, she met So Hee who fills her in on the latest news.
A few things happened the next day. YJ meets KC in the courtroom. SM killed a nurse and escaped the mental asylum. He had returned to the replica of his home in ‘W’, retrieved the drawing tablet that he’d hidden and drawn a key to release KC’s handcuffs and a gun in KC’s hand.
Question: how did SM know what KC needed, or where he was, when he’d been in the mental asylum for 1 year? He had no way to know the manhwa’s plot at that stage.
SM drew a change of clothes for KC and a car, gave him an address to go to, then tied himself up at ‘home’. KC had gone to see SM and then met YJ to bring her to see her father.
Question: how did YJ manage to get a change of clothes? I can only assume she went back to the penthouse to get clothes? But then DY should have known. Instead he had been surprised to see her in the courtroom.
SM had gotten KC to tie him up. YJ is upset to see her father in his bad state.
Do Yoon had been taken by HCH to be interrogated and used as bait to bring KC to rescue him, to get the tablet. HCH was afraid that KC would take revenge on him.
SM had asked KC to let him die in ‘W’ but KC had refused. SM had changed too much, with the memories of the Killer and could not control his killing impulses. If he stopped killing, he would lose his purpose and disappear.
YJ had started drawing a CCTV on the tablet to create evidence of HCH’s thuggish crimes, hoping that this would end the manhwa quickly. She’s almost strangled to death by SM/Killer who is still out to kill KC’s family.
Her evidence drawn to get HCH arrested cannot be used as that would create a happy ending for KC, but result in SM disappearing.
Question: This is the logic that SM ‘explains’ to KC and to us, but I don’t really understand it. Is it just the fact that KC and SM together and alive in ‘W’ is impossible by it’s logic? Killer has to kill KC, and will disappear if he does not?
The police are about to enter the house but YJ draws an impenetrable wall around it. KC is also disappearing. He removes both their rings to break their relationship as family so that at least YJ will not be killed by SM/Killer.
Back in the real world, Crazy/Mad Dog doctor starts to read the final episode.
Some interesting chronological constructions that I will put with the screenplay excerpts instead.
*** Yeon-Joo and Kang Chul in court ***
The emotional reunion scene. Kang Chul is accused of the worst misdeeds. He turns around, sees Yeon-Joo and smiles. The camera slowly approaches Yeon-Joo.
*** Yeon-Joo and Do-Yoon ***
They have time to get to know each other a little better. Do-Yoon asks Yeon-Joo if she is from another world. Her very terse answer is only “Yes”. Do-Yoon is stunned.
*** The house becomes airtight ***
A spectacular and striking scene. Doors and windows are erased. The house then has a surrealist aspect.
*** Kang Chul and Yeon-Joo unable to choose the ending ***
They are stuck. Yeon-Joo lacks Kang Chul’s will and is willing to consider cheap solutions. She is a pain to watch, actress Han Yoh Joo at her best in the “about to cry” register.
*** Professor Park reads the end ***
A meta effect. The last episode has already happened, it has been published! All that’s left is to read it for Professor Park, or watch it in episode 16 for us. Kind of like the whole episode is going to be a flashback.
@GB,
Question 1: After a year, OSM escapes and goes to the house bis. There, he takes his copy of tablet. There is a scene where Kang Chul says that OSM watched TV afterwards. And he learns that Kang Chul’s (famous) trial is today.
Question 2: Yes, it is logical. The problem is that the killer survives through OSM. So, to finish the manhwa, Kang Chul must defeat the two villains. For the killer/OSM, the problem especially is that if he acts against his character (whose goal is to kill Kang Chul or Yeon-Joo), then he disappears. We see clues:
– He doesn’t act enough like a villain and his arm becomes transparent. When he kills the nurse, he gets better.
– At one point he helps Kang Chul or Yeon-Joo (I don’t remember which one), and then his arm becomes transparent (or is it in the next episode?).
– In this episode, he assaults Yeon-Joo. Then, he apologizes and asks her forgiveness, his arm becomes translucent.
Ooops, it was question 3.
Question 2, Yeon Joo change clothes. It’s in the script as information but not needed in the drama. It’s not clear what is this “company”. I guess it’s from Seo Hee? Or bad traduction? I don’t know. All I know is the writer considered this.

Yeon Joo, walking into the courthouse with a crazy expression on her face.
SOO HEE – (E) Tomorrow is the appeal hearing. at the Seoul High Court.
Thanks @WE…
Putting overarching plot ideas together…I am still wrapping my head around how SM of Episode 15 has to kill KC and/or his family.
It’s like we have returned to square 1, where Webtoon Writer wanted to end ‘W’ and decided to kill KC outside of any context. In the process of ‘making KC a strong character’, he had created out of context, his ‘real child’, the Killer whose only purpose was to kill KC’s family (he had not been set up to kill KC yet in the beginning, correct?).
KC fought back (refused to jump off the bridge), and SM became afraid of what he thought was his own creation. Terrified that the child would devour the parent, he set his actual child, the Killer, upon KC.
Unable to control his Killer child, SM caves in to appease him, hence beginning to allow himself to be devoured by the Killer child. He brings to reality the fear that never should have existed in the first place. There would have been no devouring if he had not first started the ball rolling. The ironies pile up.
Ironically, while all this is happening, his real life daughter/child, YJ works against him to keep KC alive. Ironically too, YJ is not only SM’s family but also KC’s family by Episode 15.
Most ironical is that SM who loves most, his daughter YJ, has given himself over to the Killer in him who needs to kill YJ. He had created the child, that became the father, who would kill his own beloved real child.
In Episode 15, our 3 protagonists come to realise that if SM does not kill KC (and YJ) he will disappear. Either he kills KC and lives (supposedly in the real world with YJ), or he disappears and KC lives in the real world with YJ.
YJ still remains naive. She thinks she can have them both with her until the end. The inexorable rules of ‘W’ seem to take predominance over the rules of the real world *super scary!* *stuff of nightmares*
The only person who can be saved is YJ… KC can break his family ties with her, so that SM/Killer will no longer be compelled to kill her.
In the meantime, KC is disappearing as well… I take this to be because by his decision to end ‘W’, and by choosing not to take action against SM/Killer, he is losing his purpose, as the main protagonist.
Yet another piece of irony is that KC regards SM as his father-in-law… ALSO as family, and a family of choice, since he chose to be YJ’s husband. Hence in the twisted logic, SM has to kill himself.
By breaking ties with YJ, KC is attempting to sacrifice himself to save YJ and SM. But he does it in a good way, ie, he acknowledges YJ’s agency in this decision, places it before her and lets her have her decision too. I like that there’s no ‘noble idiocy’ in this at all.
And so we come to the last Episode 16 that we will talk about next week.
BTW, are we going to rewatch Episode 17? It’s not so much story but explanations. It’s good too, to clear the head.
@GB, Wow! You did a great job of summarizing all the irony of the situation. The second part of W sets up a good tragedy with an impossible dilemma to solve. I never really thought about the “noble idiocy” option, because Kang Chul is mostly a logical and rational person. So his decision to remove the wedding ring is a strategy. It may take Yeon-Joo out of the equation. However, it doesn’t solve anything when I think about it. He still faces the same two villains. It’s a temporary solution to prevent OSM from hurting his daughter or disappearing faster if he doesn’t. And it’s also a very good idea to make this scene more emotional.
Episode 17: the first 20 minutes are a summary of the drama, but then the Making-Of is very interesting.

Kalimera!!!!
Thank you @Packmule3 for the thread! I had the same question!
Is @Welmaris okay?
I have to clean out the basement today preparatory to a basement repair so no viewing time for me today. If I get a chance I will weigh in a bit. I snuck in 20 minutes while eating breakfast so I am about 1/3rd the way in. Have a good time!
Kalo mesimeri! I am here…
@WE and @GB Unnie?
Hello everybody. Looks like there won’t be many people here today. I hope I won’t be alone! 😉
@Cleo, ah! You are here. Phweeee!!! 🙂
@WE I am here… and it is hot…
How is the weather over there?
Should we start?
gray, rain a bit, not too hot.
yeah, we start.
No, it is blue and heat over here…
resume with the goosebump piano BGM. 🙂
I am in the mini recap…
Here, KCH is tired and goes in W without knowing it (involontary summon himself).
So, the final chapter starts and everyone is sucked in the W world.
Han Chul-Ho and Kang Chul.
@WE,
We wanted to see his wife…but the World had other priorities…
Correction:
Kang Chul wanted to see his wife…
Yeah, there is an order:
1. Kang Chul (he creates himself the final chapter).
2. Oh Sung-Moo.
3. Yeon-Joo (and so when she’s summoned, the few additional time in the real world becomes one years in W).
About what say GB and the taxi disparing. I like that because it’s like a “reversal” with the feeling only the taxi disapear, but real it’s the whole world. Just everything else is the same on this street.
Yeon Joo finds out that there is a one year time jump..
Then, we can imagine she get one year time jump because nothing happen in the manhwa, so she arrives just when things will move. What is meta, because it’s the same for the drama, lol.
@WE,
True. The thing is that Han Chul-Ho seems to be “innocent” of his crime, until the next episode.
The scene in the bar with Seo Hee was supposed to be in Seo Hee car in the script. 😉
Here a short flashforward (YJ goes to the court) then comeback to the end of the scene with Seo Hee.
They have missed each other so much…
@Cleo, yeah. I don’t say @cleo each time because we are only the two here.
Now the beautiful song “without you” when they reunite in the court scene.
Sooooooo goooooooood and moving.
YJ about to cry with joy.
KCH is ruled to be death-sentence and smiles because YJ is here… ahahhaa.
Kang Chul is sentenced to death…
Stupid jokes to relax the mood. 🙂
He’s still a bit the hero because cops let him more time to speak with YJ.
Thanks to a voice-over of YJ (the kind of VO that is “from the future”) we have the explanation why it’s the final chapter.
It’s really an usefull technique when needing to give an explanation, lol!
BTW, Lee Tae-Hwan/ Seo Do-Yoon is enlisted to the army tomorrow…
@WE,
Seo Do-Yoon is getting on my nerves…
Aaaahh. Many people think he don’t have enough screentime in W. But just the right time for the drama I think. I use him in season 2. A bit at the start, then as a regular character.
I even put him in some comedy situation. We have here a short comedy when he ask YJ “is there another world” and she say “yes”. He’s stunned!
HCH piss on his pant new he suspect KCH have the tablet.
Here a scene reminiscent of the previous one when KCH arrive in a car in the village.
I really like him as an actor. Lee Tae-Hwan is not just a pretty face…
Do Yoon annoy you? It’s someone a bit rigid, follow the rules and all would be better. But anyway, always help KCH even when his friend don’t follow the rules.
@WE,
He is waiting for his demise. Just wait a little longer…LOL
@WE my mistake I wanted to write Han Chul-Ho. He is getting on my nerves! LOL
Good line from YJ about “Kang Chul is old fashionned action hero now” (or something like that).
Now a complex chronological construct. YJ and KC in the car, but lot of differents flashback then.
It was the first time I see the actor doing HCH, so I liked very much. Believable scary vilain. Then it’s weird to see the actor playing much more nice guy, like in healer.
Yeah here, we have “flashback in the flashback”. KC and YJ in the car. flashback How KC goes to the house and meet OSM. Then flashback from OSM.
@We,
True. He is pretty good. I am missed to the Senator though, not the actual actor…
We get to see that the Jakkanim has restricted himself.
+ extra QuickFlash, like the murdering on TV set. lol
Who is talking the jakkanim or the killer?
OSM have some schyzo crisis. Like suddenly he becomes fully the killer for a short time.
So the dialog in the cell is quite funny. He ask new because he’s woried about OYJ. And just after, he gets mad, “why she’s alive, I killed her, where is she now”.
Then on the bed, cry about her again.
@WE,
Yes, it is like he has a split personality…
Song Jae Jung don’t use “Tell” without “Show”. Only “show don’t tell”, or “show with tell”, as a lot of scenes have a voice-over on top of what we see.
@WE,
i like her for that trait as well. Mostly because the world she built can be more believable…
All the BGM of this drama are so good. I don’t know if you pay attention to that. As you watched it more than twice. Huh, how many times did you?
I have watched once, then rewatch it until Episode 14 another time, and with our rewatch it is a third time.
So, basically I left the last two episodes for the end and I didn’t have time to rewatch them again.
OSM say how work the ending rules. Every character have a thinking about W logic and help with that.
“I will do like I heard nothing”.
I like this cliché line from dramas.
@WE,
He is the jakkanim and he knows the rules. He told KC that he has become the baddie. I think this decision the jakkanim / father took gave us W’s ending in Episode 16…
Do Yoon was captured. But… maybe lack of time, in a elipse. No scene showing that.
As for Han Chul-Ho, he is awful…
HCH becomes a bit more than the one dimensional vilain as he knows a bit about W rules now. But he don’t respect his character design too, as a consequence of more self-awareness.
Hi @WE and @Cleo… Last 13 minutes!!!
Yeah @WE, I wondered about that missing scene of Do Yoon getting caught.
The actor playing OSM and Killer is awesome. But the problem, everytime I see him elsewhere now, it’s still Oh Sung Moo. 🙂
@Hi GB!! just in time for the end. 😉
Hey @GB Unnie,
I am glad to see you!
Her father is not her father though @WE…The killer surfaced again!
Which part are you two at?
I jumped in at the part where KC is about to remove the wedding rings.
50:00
@GB Unnie,
Where the jakkanim tried to strangled his daughter.
@Cleo, Sung Moo always scared me. At any time he could become the Killer. Worst kind of situation with a loved one ever!!!
But it could be a reflection of what kind of person he was.
OK, so we’re almost at the same point in the show.
YJ has to make the most difficult choice of her life.
@GB Unnie,
True…
Here it miss an explanation that make the final episode more confusing. Do-Yoon speak about the two worlds. But we as audience should get the fact that HCH know that’s at the end, the remaining character is free to travel between worlds.
I think it was hidden to us by the writer because she needs us to be in the unknow for the end of final episode (when KCH come back to the real world at the end).
Copy-paste of the wood wall on the tablet, then.. on the house. 🙂
I like the sound of the wall covering all the windows and doors.
Heh! Good ol’ Crazy Dog…
Last: prof Park say he hate W, but don’t want to hear a spoiler about the end. lol.
Park is the most crazy fan of ‘W’.
“a love-hate relationship”.
He does a last time W with fingers, then with arms.
Smart move, to have the Crazy Dog to inform us that W’ ended…
We will get to see what happens in the final episode…
The end preview makes me want to watch Episode 16 immediately.
I really like the “In The Illusion” song…
@GB Unnie,
True. It is the most shocking preview, we could get…
So we want to watch Episode 17? If so then we will end week after next before our hiatus.
@cleo… if it didn’t end, the guy in the elevator should say. “did you read the last episode? There is something weird about…”.
So, we could imagine there is another “to be continued”. But it seems impossible. The manhwa rules are like “if there is final chapter”, it have to ends in any way. It’s doomed to end no matters what.
@GB Unnie,
I have to check about Episode 17. On Netflix it doesn’t exist and on Viki, I don’t know yet.
Okay. I can watch it on Viki!
@Cleo, when will you back from your vacation? I can’t remember what date we tentatively said we will resume the Rewatch Party.
So we go on episode 17? It’s ok for me.
@WE,
Yes, I know, but after watching the preview, you are afraid that Kang Chul will die…Little did we know, what really happens. I think the ending was touching and brilliant!
@GB Unnie,
3 weeks in August. Hopefully I will be back in the last week.
The thing is that I haven’t watched some shows on the next rewatch party list and I have to watch it first in order to rewatch it with you!
@Cleo, I actually don’t think I’ll be able to watch and then rewatch some of the shows. I’m tending towards Jdorama ‘Liar Game’ because it’s short (11 episodes?) and Japanese for a change.
However, I’ve decided to include shows that I don’t really want to watch, jist to have a less prejudiced list.
There are some show in the list I can’t rewatch, because I already tried to watch them but dropped. But it doesn’t matter if I miss the rewatch party.
@GB, Liar game is fully 2 season + 1 movie. But episodes are shorts (35 minutes).
@GB Unnie, @WE,
I have to check the “Liar Game” Is it on Netflix or Viki?
@WE, I think the list will have about 12 shows to choose from, including some old recommendations from last year. I did a preliminary list to see what might end up on it. However, if the persons who suggested them don’t vote, our list becomes shorter.
@cleo, I can give you links on MDL. Write me there:
https://mydramalist.com/profile/7647047
Unfortunately, we don’t have access on the title.
Thanks for giving us the ‘Liar Game’ links @WE.
I’m thinking we watch the Season 1 first, before deciding on going on to Season 2 and the movie!!!
@WE,
I have you as a friend of MDL. I will send you a direct message!
BTW, @Welmaris is mia for some time now. I do hope she is okay…
@GB,
We can watch some movies first as well. Tomorrow is the last day to vote?
@Cleo, once in a very long time, I check another social media platform… I can see @Welmaris did leave a message there to a group. She’s OK but probably busy. 🙂
I got caught up only to the point of seeing OSM/Real culprit opening the chest to get the tablet out. I agree that Kim Eui-Sung is a very good actor, especially the seen in the psychiatric ward where he quickly goes back and forth between RC and himself. No wonder they put him there! I also do not think I will be able to see KES as anything but OSM. Back to cleaning.
@Cleo, no… tomorrow is the deadline to suggest shows to watch. Voting starts on Monday 27 Jun – Saturday 9 July 2022.
Thanks for the update @GB Unnie…
A okay…
I have suggested “Youth of May”. It will be available for us in mid July… As “Dali”
Hello @Salteddust!
@Cleo, you mean Youth of May which aired in 2021? It’s only going to be available in July?
Hi Slateedust.
@salteddust… oh dear…. still cleaning.
My daughter’s flight will take off in half an hour.
I’m actually feeling sleepy now.
So you know,when I am on my smartphone and I post a comment, noone receives an email notification.
I did receive email notifications for your posts, @Cleo.
@GB Unnie,
It opens for our region on Netflix next month, along with some other shows like “Dali and the Cocky Prince”.
Oh boy, just be careful okay?
@Cleo, I’m home, in front of my PC. So I’m quite safe LOL. Why did you say ‘just be careful’?
@GB Unnie,
I thought you were sleepy and you had to drive again.
That’s why I said “just be careful”.
@GB Unnie,
Good to know that, because I don’t receive any notifications…
@Cleo, I see.
OK,… I think I’ll check out the Liar Game episodes. They don’t require as much ‘work’ as ‘W’ does.
Catch you again. Remember to check for the voting in the https://bitchesoverdramas.com/2022/06/20/next-drama-for-the-rewatch-party/ thread. 🙂
@GB,
Okay…
Talk to you when you can…Kalinixta!
@Packmule3, @Cleopatra, @GrowingBeautifully, thank you for your concern about my absence from the BoD threads. Yes, I have been busy. The previous weekend I was attending a multi-day annual event at my college, the first time since the pandemic that it was held back on campus. One of the activities during the long weekend was a dress-up dinner and party with the theme “Fun and Fabulous.” Lots of attendees wore sequins, feather boas, and the like. My interpretation of the theme included an oversize tee emblazoned with “This is my K Drama watching shirt” and a kitty saying “Just one more episode.” I topped off the costume with a beauty face mask (which I took off when it was time to eat). I had to explain to other attendees I wasn’t going for a horror film vibe, but that face mask wearing is often depicted in Korean dramas.
I have finished watching all episodes of W, including the special. I may join in commenting on Episode 16 next week. This morning I missed our rewatch because I hadn’t been able to fall asleep last night, so finally crawled out of bed before dawn to view the conjunction of the planets Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Mercury was lined up as well, but for me it was hidden behind hills. (https://www.space.com/rare-planetary-alignment-moon-joins-June-2022) Once the sun rose at 5:41 a.m. my time, I went back to bed and finally fell asleep.
I’ve been watching Kdramas consistently, but not ones that are being discussed much here. I’ve been leaning toward fluff lately, so have watched Woori the Virgin and Welcome to Wedding Hell. I’m also current with Yumi’s Cells 2, but haven’t gotten around to reading those threads and making comments. I’m loving that show even more this season than last.
Hi @Welmaris, good to see you here!
Yes, we will be taking a break from watching until after August. We’ll probably check how we feel and may start some time in mid or late September. 🙂
Hey @Welmaris,
Good to know that you were just busy, but okay. No worries, if you can propose any k-dramas you want to see in September just do !
Final Episode – Invocations order
In this episode, the scenes have been put in the right order to understand the phenomenon of “Final Episode”.
First Kang Chul, who triggers the phenomenon because he is fed up with manhwa.
This is specified in the script and easy to understand by watching the drama: Kang Chul invokes himself by accident in the manhwa. He is wounded, exhausted (having just been tortured), and by a kind of unconscious reflex returns to W.
Then Oh Sung-Moo: a change of perspective to signal his departure in W. Instead of a general view, the departure is signaled from his point of view, and he sees the cab disappearing. In reality, the whole world has disappeared and is replaced by the world of W. However, it is the same road, the same scenery, and also at night. Only the colors and contrasts are more vivid (a trick used by director Jung Dae-Yoon throughout the drama).
Finally, Yeon-Joo sees “Final episode” in front of the hotel (cliffhanger scene of the previous episode). The script specifies that she was summoned after the other two. After “some time”, probably not much in the real world, but enough for a one year difference in the manhwa.
One can also wonder if the manhwa doesn’t bring in the late Yeon-Joo just as something is about to happen to Kang Chul.

#6. Building in front of the shopping district (at night)
Kang Chul returns to the manga.
There were no shops open behind, and the shutters were down and the lights went out at dawn.
Kang Chul, not knowing that he has returned, he bowed his head and lost consciousness.
After a while, I woke up to the sound of a car coming in the distance.
KANG CHUL – A taxi.. are you here..?
Kang Chul, I barely look up and there are no employees…
I was confused for a moment.. I stopped looking for the employees with my eyes.
Suddenly, in front of Kang Chul’s eyes, the subtitle {The Last Episode} appears.
Kang Chul, facial expression.
Unfamiliar subtitles, Kang Chul, I stare blankly at the subtitles, but after a while, the subtitles disappear…
Then the car gets louder and the sedan comes and stands in front of Kang Chul.
The car stopped, the window opened and Chul Ho looked out.
KANG CHUL – (…!)
CHUL HO – (Unexpectedly, Kang Chul is here) ….!
KANG CHUL – (expression)
CHUL HO – (Looks stunned) Who is this..? I thought I would never see you again.
BODYGUARDS – (Opens the door right away and goes down)
Kang Chul, something I never thought of.. on the face..

#9. road (night)
Sung Moo, frantically come and catch a cab.
SUNG MOO – (waving hand) Taxi!! taxi!! (There are no taxis standing, so they beckon here and there)
Finally a taxi came and stopped.
TAXI – (opens the window) Where are you going?
SUNG MOO – Miracle Hotel!
TAXI – Yes. ride it
Sung Moo, stopped right after trying to grab the handle.
The taxi in front of me suddenly disappeared.
same road. But there are no taxis.
As a passing car honked the bread horn, Sung Moo panicked and backed off to the sidewalk.
Sung Moo, I’m looking around for a moment…
At this time, the subtitle of {The Last Episode} appears in front of Sung Moo’s eyes.
Sung Moo, ….?!!!
{The Last Episode} Subtitles disappear after a while…
Sung Moo With a bewildered expression on his face..

#10. Hotel Entrance (Night)
Continuing from scene 103 in episode 15..
Yeon Joo, standing at the front door, waiting for Sung Moo and Kang Chul to come.
Yeon Joo, who waits and gets nervous and sneaks around…
YEON JOO – (whispering) Why isn’t anyone coming..?
I was worried, so I turned around to make a phone call, but stopped at the sudden roar of thunder.
It is raining suddenly outside the window. thunder and lightning
Yeon Joo, ….?!! Then I see someone with an umbrella in front of me.
This is Soo Hee, a woman who folds umbrellas and collects rainwater.
Soo Hee, who was putting her umbrella on plastic, met Yeon Joo who was looking at her.
I glanced at it and then stopped. Staring at Yeon Joo again…
Yeon Joo, bewildered and perplexed…
Soo Hee and Yeon Joo look familiar… then they tilt their eyes and go away.
Yeon Joo, embarrassed, looked at Soo Hee’s back and looked back and it was still raining outside… Then the subtitles for {The Last Episode} appeared.
Yeon Joo, blankly watching the subtitles of {The Last Episode} that appeared like a welcome in the rain, but after a while the subtitles disappeared
(** This is the setting where Yeon Joo was summoned last. The two of them went into the cartoon first, and then Yeon Joo came in after some time)
Soo Hee master scene.
Another scene that drives other scenes in the form of flashback.
First a little confusing situation: at the end of episode 14, Yeon-Joo sees Soo-Hee enter the building. However, the script needs Yeon-Joo to know the date, so she goes to the reception to ask.
Then, a scene removed from the drama, she tries to take the elevator (to go to Do-Yoon or Kang Chul).
At this point, the script needs Soo-Hee, just because the episode needs someone to clarify the situation. So, by chance… Soo-Hee only came, by chance, just at that moment to chat with an employee, then leave again. In doing so, Yeon-Joo catches up with Soo-Hee at the hotel entrance. This is rather far-fetched! However, the purpose of the scenario is imperative: Kang Chul’s situation must be explained beforehand, so that Yeon-Joo will then go to court.
Then, the explanation scene takes place in Soo-Hee’s car, but it was changed in the hotel bar in the drama (there was no particular reason for it to happen in her car). Rarely, as it is Soo Hee who explains, she will have voice-overs on some side scenes.
We can note in #21, a correct indication: the scene with Soo-Hee became a flashback because the sequence anticipates Yeon-Joo’s coming to court, and scene #20, she is in front of the court. It was either that or turn scene #20 into a flashforward. But even in a series of scenes like this, there is a little more complexity.
Note that there were also other possibilities: the voice-over is by Yeon-Joo (and we understand that she repeats the information given by Soo-Hee). Or the scene #21 is cancelled, we don’t come back with Soo-Hee and we continue the action directly. It is faster and very interesting, but often, when there are flashbacks or flashforwards, the spectator expects to come back to the initial situation, as it is the case here.

SOO HEE – (E) I was sentenced to death at the first trial in March. Today is the day of the appeal hearing.

Yeon Joo confirms the court number and the name of the river.
Court – Master scene
The very long scene #23. Two notable things:
– The judge’s very long speech. It is put in one line of dialogue, but then the script makes it clear that it is dictated during the scene (and not all at once). The other possibility is to cut these lines further, if it would have an impact with a specific moment, but this is not the case here.
– The reunion of Kang Chul and Yeon-Joo, a strong emotional scene in the drama, which operates mainly by eye contact and tricks of direction. We can see in the script the care brought to the reactions of the characters, and indeed, they do not say anything. Only the expressions on their faces are described. Left to the free interpretation of the actors, except the last two moments: Kang Chul smiles and Yeon-Joo cries.
Then Yeon-Joo and Kang Chul are talking. As the hero of the Manhwa, the policemen give him time to talk with his wife. And at this point, the scene drives other flashback scenes. To come to the key point: Final chapter means that they are stuck here until the end. While the voiceovers could have been delivered by Kang Chul, they are delivered by Yeon-Joo instead.
Yeon-Joo’s voice-over transitions to scene #29, in which Kang Chul escapes.

#23. Court (AM)
Yeon Joo enters the door cautiously. Already in progress.
The judge reads the sentence at length.
The audience is seated and the atmosphere is solemn and serious.
JUDGE – Summarizing the above facts, the accused murdered the victim before the crime and sought a way to escape, and after committing the crime, according to the plan, he took the victim’s cell phone and threatened the police with a gun, and then used his car. It is hard to believe the statement that the accused tried to commit suicide after committing the crime because he could not overcome the guilt after committing the crime or attempted to surrender. Although it is acknowledged that he has taken the lead in eliminating crime through broadcasting stations for the past several years, it is self-evident that it cannot be an indulgence for the accused’s crimes.
In the meantime, at the gaze of Yeon Joo coming slowly…
The back of Kang Chul standing in the shroud is directly visible.
Yeon Joo, ….!
I’m drawn to Kang Chul along the hallway like a magnet.
Do Yoon, who was sitting in the audience listening to the verdict seriously, glanced at Yeon Joo passing by him, and then looked back again and was surprised to see Yeon Joo’s face again.
I grabbed Yeon Joo’s arm as she went.
YEON JOO – (Looking back)
DO YOON – (!!! After checking his face, his voice got louder in surprise) Oh Yeon Joo?
AUDIENCE – (looks at him)

YEON JOO – (…..!)
KANG CHUL – (Relieved to be alive, happy to see you smile)
YEON JOO – (I suddenly burst into tears at that expression)
Everyone in the audience chattered and looked at the two of them saying something…
Among the audience, Chul Ho’s secretary also sat looking at Yeon Joo.. ??
JUDGE – (pauses while reading the verdict) The defendant. Are you listening?
LAWYER – (just pulls Kang Chul’s sleeve)
KANG CHUL – (turning his head right away at that sound)
DO YOON – (When attention is drawn, he quickly moves one seat and pulls Yeon Joo down)
YEON JOO – (Draged to his seat)
JUDGE – (Continued) The cold, heartless, and cruel crime committed by the defendant in this case caused a great shock and shock to the majority of the people who lead a sound social life, and in itself greatly exacerbated the dignity and worth of human beings guaranteed by our Constitution. It is a crime against humanity that not only damages but also threatens the basic order and peace of the social community…
DO YOON – (lower in between) What happened?
YEON JOO – ……
DO YOON – Were You Really Alive? Then, suddenly, I opened my eyes and disappeared.. I was shocked.. CEO Kang said that he could just wait for him to come back.. (Gibberish) No, but how…!
YEON JOO – (The situation is crazy, tears)
KANG CHUL – (Looks back again as the verdict flows)
YEON JOO – (Looking into each other’s eyes)
Kang Chul, silently and with his eyes, continues to express the joy of reunion.
Yeon Joo, …… Wipe your tears and smile.
Kang Chul smiles and turns his head again.
Dissolve..
JUDGE – Judging from the circumstances of the sentencing conditions shown in the records, such as the relationship with the victim (reading the last sentence of the judgment), the motive, means and results of the crime, and the circumstances after the crime, the lower court’s sentence, which sentenced the defendant Kang Chul to death, was unfair. Can not.
(and) dismiss the appeal.
YEON JOO – (…!!)
DO YOON – (…!!)
LAWYER – (Frustrated, sighing)
KANG CHUL – (expectedly, bluntly)
The judges leave the cut, and the audience shouts out.
Yeon Joo, runs straight to Kang Chul and Kang Chul comes straight to the audience.
The two of you stand as close as possible and talk urgently
KANG CHUL – Why are you showing up now?
YEON JOO – I’m coming right away, so what should I do after a year has passed..!
KANG CHUL – You came right away?
YEON JOO – (Crying tears) You came as soon as you woke up…!
KANG CHUL – (Looks in vain) What then, am I the only one who has been struggling for a year?
Why won’t you come? Do Yoon saw hyung open his eyes.
Have you changed your mind and are dating another man there? I thought of everything.
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – Or he doesn’t come because he’s scared to watch the manga. Because I don’t want to be jailed for death row inmates.
I married a chaebol and suddenly became penniless, and that wasn’t enough, so death row inmates?
Well, I can understand that feeling.
YEON JOO – (Stupid) Now… Are you joking?

This time, the pistol is in his hand.
Kang Chul, ….!!!!
A clear signal from Sung Moo…!
Kang Chul, who quickly checks the movement of the police with his eyes and checks the exit, with his expression on his face.
Here, the scriptwriter takes the trouble to give a realistic indication about Chul Ho, and the fact that his office should be different. However, this was not used because few people know. It’s easier to keep the usual office that everyone knows. Not only to save a set for the production, but also to help the viewer to catch the situation quickly.

Kang Chul Car Master Scene.
Another complex set up, with flashbacks within flashbacks within flashbacks.
First, the scene where Yeon-Joo meets Kang Chul in his car.
Strangely, the scene header says “In front of the cafe” instead.
When Kang Chul tells Yeon-Joo, he drives the car (he doesn’t stay in front of the cafe as in the script). Unless there is a translation error, because in scene #45 “walk away” sounds more like “drive away”.
Then, Kang Chul tells what happened to him after his escape, #40 to #43. And for that, he has to tell how he arrives at the replica of the house in W, his meeting with Oh Sung-Moo, and then: we have the flashbacks of what also happened to Oh Sung-Moo in #44. Except for the fact that he killed the nurse!!! This fact will be used later.
After a quick back to the present #45, the continuation of what happened to Oh Sung-Moo. It is as before flashback from what he tells Kang Chul. So, flashback within a flashback. But since he also has to explain how he got a new tablet and how he created the replica of the house in W, we have in #48 and #52 two flashbacks within a flashback within a flashback!!!

Sung Moo, looking at his hands in embarrassment, suddenly the afterimages of the real criminal come to mind.
Episode 14, the scene where the policeman was strangled to death with handcuffs.
In episode 10, the scene where he was shooting at the staff in the studio was short and pompous.
Sung Moo, shaking his head to shake off the afterimage…
In the meantime, the taxi driver glanced through the rearview mirror
TAXI – But you look a lot alike.
SUNG MOO – (Sniff)
TAXI – I don’t know if you’re feeling bad, but with that Han Sang-hoon…

At this time, Sung Moo’s gaze caught a police pistol…
The afterimage of the real criminal when I was shooting again flashed past.
Sung Moo’s eyes change and suddenly he tries to steal the policeman’s pistol.
COP – uh huh why?!
SUNG MOO – (Suddenly in madness) Give it to me, bastard..! I can shoot this..! I can’t even shoot…! (Trying to steal)

SUNG MOO – Let go of this.. Oh, let go. These are real..!! (Angry) Mr. Lee really..!!!

SUNG MOO – Do you know what happened to our Yeon Joo?
NURSE – (He’s giving me a stabilizing agent next to me)
SUNG MOO – Please help Yeon Joo.. I killed our Yeon Joo..
NURSE – (Answering dryly) You’ll be alive. Don’t worry.
SUNG MOO – Are you alive…?
NURSE – Yes, he’s alive.. (I do)
SUNG MOO – (Suddenly his eyes change and he grabs the nurse by the collar) Why are you alive? I killed it!
NURSE – Mom! (surprised)
SUNG MOO – I shot a hole! It’s my job to kill that bitch, so why are you alive!!
Oh Yeon Joo Where are you?!
NURSE – evil
The male nurses rush in and rip Sung Moo off.
C#7. Solitary confinement in a mental hospital (daytime)

It’s… it gets worse when I come here… I can’t stand it because both thoughts come to mind.
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – You are in a very bad condition. I’m telling you in advance because I’m afraid you’ll be too surprised to see it.

SOO BONG – Sir! I’ll go look for that Cheol-yi hyung.
SUNG MOO – Yes.
SOO BONG – What else are you drawing?
SUNG MOO – Probably because I’m nervous…
KANG CHUL – (E) I’m worried that it’s a duplicate… I’m afraid it’s disposable or disappears suddenly
SUNG MOO – (begins drawing)
KANG CHUL – (E) You drew another one and hid it in the cartoon. Just like the culprit did.

#53. In front of Sung Moo’s house (daytime)
A car comes and stops, Yeon Joo opens the car door and runs right in.
Kang Chul, get out of the car late
KANG CHUL – (E) You said that you used the studio as it is in some episodes before.
A hideout without an owner.
These two scenes were removed from the drama. Instead, we see Yeon-Joo cooking the porridge only. This takes place while Kang Chul has a private conversation with Sung-Moo.
Scene #57 serves as a teaser because what Sung-Moo proposed will be revealed later in the episode.
Jump to scene #60. While Kang Chul is doing the dishes, he thinks about what Sung-Moo told him. And flashback within flashback, Sung-Moo tells how he killed the nurse, and because of that, his arm stopped being translucent. The main point being to show that the ending cannot accept both Kang Chul and Sung-Moo.
Scene #64 is identical to scene #63. This is an editing error in the script. This is particularly weird. I would have expected an assistant to see this, point it out or correct it. So I wonder if Song Jae-Jung has an assistant or not. How can such a mistake happen? I see only this: the scene was written in draft on another file, then copied and pasted into the script. But copied twice. But how can the numbering follow in this case? My script numbers automatically, but I don’t know if this is done in the .hwp file of the Korean script. I had noticed a numbering error in a previous episode.

KANG CHUL – (Raising his head as he listened) What kind of words…
SUNG MOO – ……
KANG CHUL – That’s nonsense.
SUNG MOO – Do as I say..
KANG CHUL – I can’t.

#65. Sung Moo’s Living Room (Night)
Kang Chul, who suddenly has no answer, covers his face in pain…
The house without windows or doors.
Here, the policemen have never seen the house, and for them, it’s more like it never had a door and window, rather than having them disappear.
This makes me aware of a plot hole in my own script: I re-use the replica of this house (W season 2 episode 6)… however… I forgot that it now had no doors or windows. And maybe there was even a hole (drilled with an axe by the cops). I didn’t give any reason why the house is like it was before removing the doors and windows. It’s not a big deal as a plot-hole. We can assume that Kang Chul had it fixed when he was in W. Or some other process was used. I could write a short flashback about it, how this house is in its original state. But is that really useful?
I already know the reason why it was repaired. When Kang Chul returns to W, he is in the same geographical location as in the real world. So if he leaves Sung-Moo’s house from the real world, he arrives in the replica. It’s pretty obvious and logical that he wanted to get it fixed. He also uses it as a meeting point, and there is a smartphone in a cabinet (allowing him to communicate as soon as he gets back to W). The whole question is… should we waste time in a script talking about this or not? Anyway, I took the trouble to elucidate a previous plot hole in my script. Still episode 6. To tell what happened to Sung-Moo’s tablet in the hotel. Here, it seemed important for the story in general.
I had said that plot-holes could be hidden with ease without being seen. This is an example, and I found a new plot hole in a late episode of my script. The kind that will be hard to solve, even though I already have an idea. At this point, it becomes impossible to completely change a script to fit a logical error. The only possibility is to justify what it is.

#90. Sung Moo’s Yard (Night)
A few police officers came in to check the situation with their guns, and came up carefully in front of the front door, but when there was no front door, ???
POLICE1 – What is this? Why is there no door?
POLICE2 – (Looking around as there are no windows) No windows?
POLICE1 – What is Mr..? (signing hands to personnel outside)
Cliffhanger
Scene #91, where Kang Chul removes Yeon-Joo’s wedding ring.
Oddly, there is a view of Sung-Moo in the script, while he is not in the room theoretically. But actually, it’s because in the drama, the scene takes place in the kitchen!!!
Here it takes place in Sung-Moo’s office, so he is witnessing the scene. And yes, this is an important change in the drama, because we see that Sung-Moo reacts to this scene. The director preferred to give intimacy to the main couple. With a side shot to show them facing each other at the kitchen table.
Here, such a shot was possible, but with the tablet on the table between them. It’s a pretty effective symbol. I prefer the script version because of that. Sung-Moo’s reaction also at the end of the scene, because it shows the effect it has on him, if Yeon-Joo is taken out of the equation.
Scene #92. There is only one scene header. I point this out to show that in a screenplay, a quick exterior shot doesn’t even need a description. For the sake of brevity and efficiency, just one line.

KANG CHUL – I can’t last long. Somehow it will break and come in.

YEON JOO – (Painful, covering her face) How do I get out now..?
KANG CHUL – (suddenly grabbing Yeon Joo’s hand)
YEON JOO – …..? (Let’s see)
KANG CHUL – (Holding Yeon Joo’s hand tightly with translucent hands and looking down) ….
YEON JOO – …..
KANG CHUL – I have to make a decision now.
What ending will you make?
YEON JOO – How about…? What kind of ending…?
KANG CHUL – …… (Suddenly pulls Yeon Joo’s hand and removes Yeon Joo’s ring from her finger)
YEON JOO – Why are you like this…?
KANG CHUL – (Puts Yeon Joo’s ring on the desk, removes his own ring and puts it on the desk)
YEON JOO – What are you doing..? (Tears are already pouring out of my bad feeling) Why are you taking off the ring…? What should we do..?
KANG CHUL – It’s so cruel that a father… his daughter must die to avoid extinction.
I can’t.
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – I’ll remove you from my family list.
you are free now Now it’s safe no matter the ending.

@WE, my, my, you’ve posted the script for Episode 15 and 16? Thanks.
The events as we watch them unfold, then, are in chronological order, except for the flashbacks?
Hi @GB.
I’ll publish ep 16 script samples soon, next week maybe.
Kang Chul car master scene is probably the most complex here about time reconstruction. Lot of flashback, explanations, even olders flashback.
I didn’t wrote the chronological time, but all this is damn complicated.
For now I don’t feel like I can do this kind of thing (well, I did it in some episodes, but without doing the chronological time before). About scenes with chronological time, I wonder if I could change them and go in time reconstruction mode. Doing that is nice for the drama version on screen. But while only reading the screenplay, it’s a bit difficult to get when you came just to read a story.
I tried while correcting an episode. But my main goal was mostly to dispatch scenes from an episode into another. And I would need to change that and do it linear again. Because I don’t feel it, it was a mistake.
I worked a bit on that recently. But now I should stop and make episode 13 photo-montage (photo-screenplay).
Here a short idea of the mess:
https://twitter.com/EnchanteurW/status/1603995405896785921
I forgot to make some little comments but for example scen #9 ending:
The script says the words “final episode” disapear after a while.
We don’t get that in the drama, it stops on Sung-Moo seeing the words.
Of course, because it makes the scene longer and it’s useless.
Else, the drama is faithfull to the scene, we even get the car coming and scaring Sung-Moo.
So it’s a tip about screenwriting:
– start a scene at the later possible time.
– end a scene at the earlier possible time.
If we get someone going in a restaurant and says “hello, how are you?”, etc… it’s often useless. So we jump directly in the main situation.
Same, we don’t really need to someone saying “goodbye, see you next time”.
Well I did it in my episode 3, because I needed a kind of time separation for another situation, but I wonder if it’s really needed even like that. Ok the scene is short but don’t give much information except that. On analys just two thing: Soo-Bin use to see Soo-Bong more drunk (saying he has a life sometimes when Yeon Joo isn’t here, so he don’t show it to her when he’s more drunk), and Yeon Joo says she has a baby. But useless as we see the baby later, and it has already been done in episode 1 in a scene with a student. Last point would be: they leave so we get better the timeline, as they are already in the mother house soon after. But again, quite useless.
I end scenes with some kind of “mini-cliffhanger” or something a bit stunning or significant. It’s a good way because the reader get a feeling of “what happens next?”.
Probably kdramas are not as rude as movies about scene beginning and ending, and spend a little more time. We can see that just with this screenplay, when SJJ is one of the most experimented screenwriter. In any case, the director make it more like a movie and shorten the scene. Well, this one at least.
@WE, yes, as a viewer, I don’t care for all the filler where many seconds are spent in useless greetings. Most of the time dramas do cut off a lot. All meals are cut so that the actors barely eat at all. Days are cut so that 5 minutes ago was morning and now it’s suddenly night after doing just 1 task outside and returning home.
Partly it’s because showing real life in between parts are useless and boring (I will watch reality TV if I want to suffer that) and there are only a few kdrama episodes in which to stuff all the plot. So no time is wasted.
I’m watching Unlock My Boss now and it shifts from real to flashback to real and real to imagination and real, suddenly. I have to guess that I’m now watching something that is not in the current time. But they make the imagination over the top so it becomes obvious.
In the J dorama First Love, they jump back and forth in time so much that at first it’s confusing. There’s no reference for us to know which time we are in. We also jump to another person from time to time and we are not introduced to him until later. However I think that SJJ’s writing really takes the cake about going back and forth so much more.
I am rewatching MOTA and was marveling at what how it was edited. Flashback upon flashback. Well the story more or less came through, and as for the logic, I suppose we make educated guesses.
In MOTA the director style is more naturalistic, so: he don’t show it’s a flashback, and sometimes when there is big flashbacks mess, it’s difficult to get it.
On W, Jung Dae Yoon always do a kind of “flash” thing. Also, he puts blur on imaginary scenes. So nice director, always looking for the audience to understand what happens.
I wasn’t aware “Unlock My Boss” is already on air. Damn, I’m so late on all dramas. Didn’t ended Big mouth yet or Alchemy of soul. The only time I watched TV was with you, during rewatch, since some months.
They really love to go in an high-class restaurant, get the best meal you could dream, then… eat nothing because they have an argument, and leave.
This makes me crazy. 🤪
@WE Looks like that if you don’t put aside time to watch with company, you may have a work-life or work versus leisure imbalance.
Since you seem to be free on Sat late morning (Paris time). You can try to catch me on the ‘Unlock My Boss’ thread. I will watch around that time.
I’m still thinking about what I watched and what to say about it. Ep 4 was kind of hectic in parts.
@WE Does leaving good expensive food untouched on the table upset you? I am more concerned about the waste because if the shooting takes a long time, the food gets spoilt.
