In between episodes of Love like the Galaxy… ‘Love between Fairy and Devil’ has taken my fancy.

You have to be able to deal with cutesy Esther Yu… but her role looks like it has layers and will get more and more interesting. I like Dylan Wang as the ML and there is a good cast including the first fiance from A Dream of Splendour -Xu Haiqiao – who is an accomplished actor.

It has all the usual Chinese fantasy elements but I am also finding it quite fresh and I like the central story line between the fairy and the devil. There is comedy and adventure and romance to come.

>>I truncated @GB’s response to @Kate

…As for ‘Love between Fairy and Devil’ – since you mentioned it I took a peek at Episode 1. At least Esther Yu’s character gets a complete replacement with the body swap. Glad it happened in the first episode! It will be interesting to see how she carries out her ‘manly’ role as a mean devil in a girly-girl’s body. LOL.

I wonder if we have already been given a glimpse of the love triangle since the deity is concerned about the fairy and may try to rescue her.

Yes, this one has more adventure and romance to come, and it’s all good as long as we do not look too hard at details and wonder why some scenes are edited that way.

I will continue to watch a few more episodes to see if I get sucked in. 😉

>>@Kate to @GB

@GB – great. I will also look at Big Mouth on the same basis.

‘Love between Fairy and Devil’ has some intriguing plot developments and a back story which make me want to keep watching it. I have raced through to Episode 8. If you do keep watching let us know! I really like the opening and closing credits too. Very nicely done and lovely swoooooshy music.

>>@GB’s post to @Kate

@Kate
Love Between Fairy and Devil
Yes, I went on to Episode 2. I took some time to watch the opening credits too… hoping for more clues. I’ve still not really paid attention to the closing credits, though.

I felt that it’s a pity the fairy couldn’t keep being in the devil’s body a tad longer. However it is interesting now that he can feel on his body what is happening to her.

So she falls into the soul transformation cauldron… a transformation will again be fun to watch.

>>@Kate’s post

@GB and @Viva,

Love between Fairy and Devil – really hotting up in Episodes 8 and 9! I am officially hooked. Love this type of story line.

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

Hi @Kate, I’m enjoying the Love Between Fairy and Devil (I call it FD for short) too.

I’ve watched up to Episode 10 and now that the truth is out, the relationship part can come to new footing. However I expect that the progress in any romance is going to be hampered by all kinds of battles and betrayals, so it’s going to take 30+ episodes and more than 1 lifetime or something to get the couple together. LOL.

I must say that the elegant artistry of these Xianxia shows is always lovely to see. So much beauty, in every scene. Even the fight between Moon Supreme and Chang Heng was so beautifully wrought. They looked great even when beaten by the other LOL.

I also always like the Chinese rendition of dragons. The mythical flying dragon with super long body, plus a long tail, but with only 4 legs is impossible in real life but with CGI works so well. I used as a child, to watch dragon dances, but they never looked as good. I like how this show’s dragon is faithful to the image I have of it from my childhood.

So we gather that the Moon Supreme had as a child, been robbed of his emotions (or emotional intelligence) in order that he should not have any attachments or weakness. Getting accidentally tied to Fairy Lan Hua with a Heart Curse, he gets to remember what emotions are like. Although he cannot recognise his emotions, he has already developed a strong attachment to Fairy, and is going into denial that he cares for her, from now on.

I, too, like the conceit that it’s all out of self-aggrandizement that Moon Supreme does those great boyfriend things for Fairy. Both of them are so adamant that they do not care for each other. I will enjoy watching them eat their words.

There’s still that little complication of Chang Heng getting married to Fairy in the future. I expect these Xianxia stories to have all kinds of plot twists.

From the fact that several of the characters have 2 names, I guess that they will leave the immortal realm and become humans for a spell, possibly in a few episodes time. Somewhere along the line we’ll come to find out that Fairy’s true body/soul or spirit is that of a goddess of some kind. The villain, Rong Hao has already figured it out, but of course the good guys will be the last to know.

At the end of Ep 10, our Fairy’s machinations to get Moon Supreme to visit her in order to get him into a … err … compromising position heheheh! I wonder what she’s thinking. Does she hope to engineer another body swap?

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

ps I got the shivers when she went into the fairy kingdom version of the sorting hat to determine her true form and was greeted by this god (of sorts) as ‘Old Friend’. Then all the drama that followed…

Most excited about the unfolding story of her true identity – tingle!

Will write more this evening @GB

>>@Fern’s post

@GB and @Kate, I don’t know if I’ll follow this, but episode 2: “It’s all gone. I can’t braid my hair anymore.” 🤣🤣🤣

>>@Kate’s reply to @grace

@Grace – it’s frothy and fun + some deeper stuff. A nice counterbalance for meatier shows.

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

@Kate, @Fern @Grace LOL… glad our chatter about FD sounds interesting. As usual, I end up doing more ‘work’ than should be necessary to get to the bottom of the plot. I ended up re-watching Ep 1 and 2 again. Here’s what I have gathered, most of which I missed when I was just watching casually.

Basically, Fairy Lan Hua (Fairy for short) says practically all of it ie she gives us the full premise and a good hint of the conclusion.

*SPOILERS for those who have not watched the first 2 episodes*

In voiceover by Fairy: “Legend has it that in order to acquire ancient forbidden skills, Dongfang Qingcang, the Moon Supreme of the Moon Tribe, became a monster without any feelings. He killed his father, took the position of the Moon Supreme and led 100,000 soldiers of the Moon Tribe to burn, kill and loot. The fairy realm (Shuiyuntian), the Moon Tribe (Cangyan Sea) and the mortal world (Yunmeng Lake) were in grave danger.

In order to save the common people, Chidi Woman, the God of War of fairy realm, even destroyed her primordial spirit to die with Dongfang Qingcang and sealed 100,000 demon soldiers of the Moon Tribe.

But the primordial spirit of Dongfang Qingcang didn’t die. Once he is resurrected, the three realms will be in danger again. Legend has it that only the Goddess of Xishan (Xi Yun) can defuse this catastrophe. But she disappeared.”

No prizes for guessing who the Goddess Xishan is. LOL. Show blatantly drops clues.

*SPOILERS for those who have not watched beyond Ep 2*

The handsome Chang Heng who is much loved by all fairies, is bethrothed to be married to the goddess… yup… THAT goddess.

For reasons unknown to us, goddess is not making herself known ie our dear heroine is the last person in the world to figure out who she really is. In the meantime, she’s going to be continually bullied or in danger. The irony is of course, that people want the goddess to return but they might be killing her in the person of Fairy because no one knows it’s her. So frustrating!!

Similarly frustrating for Chang Heng, since he does not know that the girl he likes really is one and the same as the one he is to marry, he separates himself from her to protect her from the wrath of his brother. He wipes her memory so that she does not recollect that they were close friends before. All she recalls is that he saved her from being tossed out by the drunken Arbiter who careless damaged her immortal root.

All this gets clarified only some episodes in.

I’ll be back to add more thoughts later. 🙂

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

@GB – this is fun. I’ll watch this evening and then read your commentaries in more detail.

Thank you!

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

@GB – you have beautifully scene-set here! Thank you.

I have nothing to add at this stage.

SPOILERS coming up if you haven’t seen the FIRST 10 Episodes

I am loving the interplay between our initially naive and occasionally gormless heroine and her far more interesting backstory and destiny.

I loved the way she ‘accidentally’ or so we thought got sucked into the ML’s vast 30,000 year prison and all the transformative and funny stuff that happened and is continuing to unfold.

I was really excited when baddie fairy gave her the Goddess test.

Also – shiver me timbers! – when she was surrounded by ‘hellfire’ in the great gathering of the Fairies on the day of task assignment. It was both a mess and rather clumsy of ML to protect her in that way – he did want her to graduate after all (sweet) – and exciting because she was breaking through all the norms and expressing something of the power she will have.

@GB – does the Goddess hail from the Moon Tribe? Here I am unclear. If she does, why is she Lord Ch’s intended?

Also, why don’t the senior Fairy leaders use their intelligence rather than moving into barbaric torture here when she spends too long with the ‘sorting hat’ God? Why does the ‘sorting hat’ God greet her warmly and then give her absolutely no information that can save her from suspicion?

Are any other fairy leaders secretly on the dark side?

I am also asking myself about our little Orchid’s romantic destiny. Pros and cons with both guys eh? I hope our ML doesn’t decide to do something noble so she can happily end up with Lord Ch… on the other hand, I also like Lord Ch…

Ep 10 when he builds her a replica home… didn’t you get the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme coming through? Even though our ML is darkly handsome – he is still part of a dark dynasty.

>>@GB’s response to @Kate

You’re welcome, @Kate, I’ll respond to your post after I post these couple of thoughts.

Love Between Fairy and Devil (FD for short)

Note on Fairy’s plans and how karma works: She repairs Destiny Books – a complicated task. “A man’s fate can be affected by any small thing. One mistake can make a great difference. A man’s life is doomed. Everything is circulation of karma. The karma will never be depleted.” One assumes that if karma means that the good done by one comes back to one, just as the evil done by one returns to one, presumably in multiple reincarnations, then can we hope that the bad guy who is forced to be nice may be storing up good karma somewhere? LOL. Yes, don’t we love an anti-hero from time to time?

*SPOILERS*

She says: “I can repair 50 books a day. 1,500 each month. When I reach 50,000 I’ll write a letter of resignation to master. At that time, my Lord Chang Heng, my savior, will come back. (All this seems to be wishful thinking on her part, but it seems not too far from what happens.)

She has repaired 42,699 books ie she expected to resign in about 5 month’s time. And Chang Heng had already returned to the Fairy Realm.

There are 3 missing fairies/deities:
1) The Arbiter who was supposed to have gone to the Mortal Realm 500 years earlier. We might have caught a glimpse of her in one of the episodes but it was a quick blink and you’ll miss it scene of a fairy and a master. Maybe we’ll see her in the Mortal Realm. I’m assuming that we are going to get to the Mortal Realm but I may be wrong.
2) The Chidi Woman who died 30,000 years earlier, but whose fragments and Destiny Book/primordial spirit can still be found in Fairy Realm. She’s the one the bad guys want to resurrect or something so that they can unseal the 100,000 soldiers for whatever battle they want to wage.
3) Goddess Xi Shan/Xi Yun who disappeared 30,000 years earlier. We need the backstory to this one, but the time of disappearance cannot be a coincidence in these sorts of dramas.

We know that Chidi Woman’s Destiny Book is with Fairy, so we expect that Chidi will make an appearance sometime in the future when the book can be repaired.

>>@GB’s response to @Kate

Meet Cute?
In what could be a Chinese Drama version of the kdrama childhood sweetheart trope, the ‘good guy’ has a backstory attachment to the girl who holds his heart enthralled. Not to be outdone, (and because this story IS about Fairy and Devil … not Fairy and good guy), Show has also given us … it can hardly be called a meet-cute, but there it was in the space-like Haotian Tower, a romantic link through accidental kisses between Fairy and Devil. I fancy those coloured lights that threw her into MS were the primordial spirits who wanted him to wake up.

What I took for strange editing, on second viewing became clear was a metaphor for what happened in MS’s cold heart when the first accidental kiss took place. His heart was a frozen over tiny island with a dead tree on it. Fairy found herself on the island, touched the frost encrusted tree, and it began to thaw. Before we could see that it might turn green with leaves, Fairy sneezed, LOL. Her sneeze brings us not only to a body swap, but also Devil’s being affected by anything that happens to Fairy physically or emotionally. This would later be referred to as a Heart Curse.

@Fern, the whole hair cutting and hair pulling thing seemed strangely extraneous (My hair! I can’t wear pretty hair pins anymore! LOL) but may have greater relevance later if they go to the Mortal Realm (ie maybe that’s the way she’d look as a mortal). However it served to show that what he did to her, and what she did to herself, affected him in her body. It didn’t matter that their bodies were swapped or not, he would always feel what was happening to her, and her destruction meant his own. Such a reasonable excuse for protecting her and for romantic shenanigans. LOL And for all the romantic lines he spouted, about how he’d die if she died, that got her thinking he was in love with her. I laughed so much, because he was just being literal and he had not yet developed his romantic bone.

Along the way MS notes that Fairy has some Moon Tribe traits, but I could not cotton on to what he was referring to, except that she was clever enough to retort and defend herself. However, I feel this is not a throwaway line but something to note for the future.

I noticed with amusement, that would-be forced kisses (a no-no in most cases) happens in this show but again ‘reasonably’ as in to save a life or it’s the girl who is initiating it, but not necessarily succeeding either.

>>@Kate’s reponse to @GB

@GB – this is great. You are on a roll.

We do see Chidi woman in baddie fairy’s home – asleep? – I think. He makes his unfortunate servants take on her form.

The Arbiter is played by a leading lady star but is down as a cameo role so it looks like we won’t see much of her.

All this stuff about the meet-cute is fascinating. I missed all that visual detail.

I did LOVE the whole sequence though as Fairy Orchid was carried towards
ML in the Haotian Tower. It was so well done – almost 2001 Space Odyssey!

>>@GB to @Kate

@Kate

@GB – does the Goddess hail from the Moon Tribe? Here I am unclear. If she does, why is she Lord Ch’s intended?

This part is still a mystery. There was something Moon Tribe like about her, or her way of thinking. As for the marriage arrangement, it’s possible that the Realms wanted to bridge their differences somewhat through marriage. The usual stuff of royal weddings where people marry for political reasons.

Also, why don’t the senior Fairy leaders use their intelligence rather than moving into barbaric torture here when she spends too long with the ‘sorting hat’ God? Why does the ‘sorting hat’ God greet her warmly and then give her absolutely no information that can save her from suspicion?

LOL I always take this lack of logic to mean that the writers have to eke out the suspense. Several times it was said that the good of the Shuiyuntian/Fairy Realm was hypocritical. As in all period dramas, the so-called justice is arbitrary. Lower ranks are treated as guilty before they can state their case.

Pros and cons with both guys eh? I hope our ML doesn’t decide to do something noble so she can happily end up with Lord Ch… on the other hand, I also like Lord Ch…

Yes, this drama has really given us a difficult ‘shipping’ task. Both the guys are delish LOL. In the end, it will be up to the girl to choose. I like how she’s been honest from the beginning about liking Lord CH. She never wanted to string MS along. He never caught her drift though, having no romantic bone in him yet.

I felt that the backstory of how he was robbed of his feelings as a child was a clever device to get us to accept it when he does have a more human heart. Just as his attachment to people was forcibly removed from him, so will sincere regard remind him of what he lost and get him to regain it.

Ep 10 when he builds her a replica home… didn’t you get the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme coming through? Even though our ML is darkly handsome – he is still part of a dark dynasty.

Oh yes, that’s why it felt so familiar. I knew he’d not understand why it’s looking the same would not make her happy. He has not yet figured out that a replica can never be the same as the actual thing, and that attachments to real living things matter.

I really wanted the time when Dylan Wang played the role of Fairy to last longer. He was cutely so full of expression then, compared to being so austere as MS now. But he still manages flickers of expression whenever he feels what Fairy feels. I believe those body swap scenes must have had the cast doubled up in laughter.

This thing about liking the bad boy,… I suppose Show will have to give him a nice, convoluted redemption arc, so that we can root for him without any restraint. LOL.

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

@Kate…. Ahh, yes, I forgot about the ‘master’ of Rong Hao. She was supposed to be dead but they kept her hidden there as if sleeping, and they had her Destiny Book. So if she’s Chidi Woman, who sacrificed her life to save others, why are her disciples the Haishi bunch, who are creating evil spirits? Rong Hao seems to be rather demented over her. Probably he’s going his own way instead of following the path Chidi set.

Again this thing about the lack of logic… how can his good friend CH see Rong Hao in that mask but not recognise his mouth and chin? Even his voice was not different. *eyeroll*

>>@Kate to @GB

@GB – I know!

Yes, also unclear about why heroine Chidi Woman is now with dark-world Fairy. More to come here, clearly.

Re the recognition… yes, even we audience members could see the similarity of ears and mouth! I was obsessively freeze-framing different shots just to test out the theory by comparing jaw line and ear shapes!

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

@Kate, speaking of space odyssey, it was interesting that falling into Haotian Tower was like breaking through space portals with colourful lights swishing around. It was actually rather pretty, if it wasn’t a prison.

Something else came to mind… this is the 2nd drama which showcased a whale swimming in the sky. And conversely, while fairy falls down into space!

And the time when they were really supposed to be in water, looked more like they were in the air with wind blowing rather than with their clothes floating around them. It’s topsy turvy physics logic with this drama!

>>@Kate to @GB

Oh @GB – I thought of our discussion of EAW too!

Enjoyed the whale cloud scene.

I like too the fact that we hear random whale sounds – I think – at various points.

Yes, it is a very interesting confection of places and dimensions!

>>@Fern’s answer to @GB

@GB and @Kate, in the first episode, just before Orchid is sucked into the tower, she has a flashback of her mentor telling her that “The Master of Destiny Books can neither tell anything about it to it’s owner nor change anyone’s fate. Otherwise he would have to bear the wrath of God and die out.” But Orchid interferes by flying in front of Lord CH to protect him. So is she doomed? Also, it seemed to me that his rays were hitting her from behind even as the energy from the Haotian Tower was hitting her from the front. The primary coloured lights didn’t appear until she was involved. It’s a wonder that a mere fairy wasn’t annilhilated.

>>@GB’s reply to @Fern

@Fern, the same thought struck me. Fairy changed CH’s destiny. By rights she should be in trouble. Her only possible excuse is that his senior god destiny should not have changed in the first place.

Yes that’s another illogical thing. He’s the god of war but can’t protect himself from those light beams, but she can survive after serving as a shield, although her powers are weak.

>>@Kate’s post

Hi @Fern and @GB,

Did she change his destiny? I am wondering …

We’ve seen that he is destined to marry etc (however that plays out) later on.

Does defence of another being automatically mean the changing of that person’s destiny or could it be that, because of her unique role and history, she is bringing about destiny, however random it looks when she is sucked into the tower?

>>@GB’s post to Kate

@Kate, @Fern, my wish came true…Episide 11 … Dylan is back to being the Fairy LOLOL. How’s ‘she’ going to extricate herself this time!!! I’m supposed to be sleeping but this is so funny!!!

>>@GB’s post

@Kate I take a break whenever I feel like it, but something (could be the medication) kept me from my usual uninterrupted slumbers. However it was better yesterday and I woke up not too early, which was good.

Watching Ep 11 of FD (Fairy Devil) was such a hoot. I laughed out loud a few times. Fortunately I’m in isolation and didn’t disturb anyone.

>>Viva’s post

Hey @Kate @GB #Fern @Grace,

FD

I made a start! I fast forward a bit so I am up to ep 4. I haven’t been able to read all your comments yet so hopefully I will increase productivity to catch up with your pace.

First impression – easy watch. Nice clothes, nice CGI. It is the traditional well like formula – cold, powerful, handsome bossy male lead is forced to look after the kind female lead who likes someone else.

Easy to like. No need to think much.

I found the female lead a little over acting? Perhaps at the back of watching Zhao Lusi (Love like Galaxy) and Zhao Li Ying (Legend of Fei) who are quite subtle in their roles. But it’s OK. I will adjust. It just a fun watch so I don’t mind.

>>@Kate’s post

@Viva – great! It is a fun watch. Esther Yu was a support character in that romance with Victoria Song and attractive younger male (Find Yourself (?) and played a similar cutesy character. I am hoping that the story will allow her character to develop a bit + great comedy contrast, anyway, with Dylan Wang’s Moon Supreme – and when her cutesey character is in his body!

@GB – glad you had good (ish?) sleep last night. I laughed too – DW must be enjoying this role!

>>@GB’s post

On FD Episodes 3-4
@Kate is it the grand love trope that true love can tame the wild beast, that you like? I do too, although I know it works mostly in fiction. This show has got this as its main premise, and it’s loads of fun seeing how Dongfang Qingcang gets played by the weak, sincere damsel.

* Minor SPOILERS*

I was thinking about the great illogical lapse in the security of the high immortals of the Fairy Realm palace, when no one can sense invisible evil beings among them LOL. I kind of like MS’s great powers that he wields so effortlessly. The best is that he could wipe out any number of fairies if he wished and no one would have even seen him!!! Anyway, I feel like telling the fairies they might as well save all those guards, guard duty in the face of MS’s repeated comings and goings to the Yunzhong Water Pavilion.

I also like just how easily MS devastated the Haishi Court. But even he cannot break the Wulan curse (or the curse of the Wulan/Xilan Holy Seal) as he stands like a fool to count the flowers in Fairy’s garden, LOL. Even without being aware of the Xilan Curse, Fairy played MS like a fool. He fears that once she find out, he’d end up as her maid… (which pretty much happens in Episode 12.) Heh!

So with the accidental kisses in Haotian Tower, not only do their bodies get swapped, but the hidden Wulan/Xilan Holy Seal that was in Fairy, is duplicated in MS. She still does not seem to know that she bears the seal (it’s hidden on her chest, did she even notice?) and that she’s a member of the ‘extinct’ Xilan clan.

What I gathered is that 30,000 years earlier, the clan was exterminated and the Xilan goddess disappeared. Unfortunately Shang Heng was engaged to this goddess.

Fairy, who in her true form, is the goddess had been left out of the list by the ‘Sorting Hat’ god. Quite remiss of him. He should put her back on the list!

As a by-the-way sort of thing, a question is raised about fake news…. Fairy tends to exaggerate as she ‘reads’ her history to the flowers. She adds or absorbs all kinds of false frills to make history more vivid. But she gets her history wrong. When it is pointed out to her that Chidi Woman killed herself with the sword and not that she killed Dongfang Qingcang with it, she considers this just a minor detail. However she is foolish (and possibly somewhat irresponsible) because what the true history means is that Dongfang Qingcang was never defeated. They cannot be so complacent. It is fortunate that she is also the one who is slowly taming Dongfang Qingcang. LOL.

>>GB’s post

FD

*Possible SPOILERS*

The other theme that show seems to be raising is that of seeing the point of view of one’s antithesis. Much to my high amusement, the guys and girls (yes more than 1 set) swap bodies and are literally in each other’s skin. So far it has not made either party any the wiser about how to deal with the other.

There is also the theme of allowing for change and giving even the most evil a second chance. Fairy’s belief is that Dongfang Qingcang is not really all evil, and she has the core of truth because, Dongfang Qingcang had been tampered with when a child before he lost his ‘humanity’. By contrast we find that the ones who are considered enlightened, just immortals are the ones who are most judgemental, already condemning Fairy as a spy before any trial or investigation.

>>@Kate’s post

@GB –

brilliantly observed! We are the better for your enforced isolation – it is making it such fun to watch this show.

General SPOILER alert

My main excitement is about our Orchid Fairy’s mysterious identity which is leading (Harry Potter style) to her achieving things and affecting things beyond her apparent capability. I love the fact that our MLs have fallen for or are falling for someone whose secret essence is so powerful! She is their equal – and no-one knows it yet. Shiver me timbers! If the romance ended up being completely lopsided without her discovering her identity and purpose and power – for me it wouldn’t be as crunchy and exciting.

I also do love the fact that our ML is being humanised by this ‘weak’ Orchid Fairy. She may be weak but she exercises the power of virtue as we saw in the Fairy trial where she saved the lives of others.

What is strength and what is weakness?

Thank you for the background on the Xillan goddess. Helpful.

Also for your observations re the slightly flawed way Orchid records and passes on key historical facts which, as you say, are critical to our understanding of what is happening.

She has the broad brush approach of naive youth! That played out beautifully at the ceremony where she blythely got around the need to execute a fairy spy.

>>@grace’s post

@GB, @kate @fern @viva,
I will hope to start FD soon! I don’t mind spoilers! Helps me pay attention to the details better when I watch.

The trailers are beautiful. I first watched Dylan Wang in the China version of Meteor Garden 3yrs ago, and he feels a lot more mature now. I caught a bit of the Super Idol he was in and it was so so tough for him, there were clashes, he got upset, and the biggest critique one of the judges had for him was for that he lacked confidence. Anyway he won the Super Idol title and was the ML for Meteor Garden that shot him to fame.
This was the episode i speed watched, they really get scolded badly by the teacher :O

He always has this bad boy look which is perfect for FD drama isn’t it?

>>@GB’s post

@Kate and anyone watching FD.
FD up to EPISODE 14
You will be able to tell that I scoff at the so-called good guys. Let the baddies take over, I say. They are probably more interesting.

It never fails to make my eyes roll when anyone in Shuiyuntian claims that they are so well guarded that it’s impossible for sinful immortals or members of the Moon Tribe to infiltrate their realm. They have their greatest enemy running loose and free all over Shuiyuntian, to Canyan Sea and back and none of them are the wiser.

The Shuiyuntian bunch are the most mistakenly self-congratulatory lot. Shang Heng who is supposed to be the God of War can’t hold a candle to what both his Haishi friend Rong Hao and Moon Supreme can do single-handedly, and yet Fairy mistakenly states over and over that Shang Heng can protect her (but from what?) and even Rong Hao of Haishi says they need Shang Heng to defeat MS.

I fancy everyone is indulging in wishful thinking and deserve what they are going to get for being so complacent.

And @Kate mentioned that at least in cdramas, we get resurrection and death is not the end… so true, in this drama too.

*SPOILERS*

From EPISODE 7 and 8
The Start of the Change in Moon Supreme
MS and Shang Que go through a lot of trouble to keep Fairy safe during the Immortals Exam, like knocking out the monster, Ying Zhao, who’s possessed by an evil spirit. Fairy is shocked to find MS is right there (when he’d been invisible before) and his excuse is that he just happened to be passing by. LOLOL. That was so lame, given with that straight face.

MS does not understand why Fairy won’t kill Ying Zhao after it almost killed her. He offers to remove her human emotions which make her weak. She says without emotions they are like trees without leaves, a flower that never blooms, a bird without wings. “We’d be disabled.” I bet MS never considered himself disabled before LOL.

Fairy says of the cooperation among the fairies: “Because we took pity on each other and didn’t want to see any of us die, we faced our fears and worked together to win time for survival. So emotion is not a burden. It’s the reason we survived this time.”

MS remembers how as a child his emotions or his link to his emotional root had been painfully removed from him. MS thinks about the differing views on emotion and strength. His father’s view versus Fairy’s. He’s told by his father that the 7 emotions: Joy, Worry, Sadness, Pity, Love, Hate, Jealousy will be stumbling blocks in making decisions. (In other words only a psychopath would be strong.)

In the midst of one of these memories, we get a quick review of how Fairy’s words had already started to take root in MS’s heart. We see again the frozen tree (his heart tree) and how her touch had started the thaw.

Fairy says that no matter how dark MS’s past had been, he should believe that there are still more good people in this world.

This is more or less the start of MS’s redemptive arc, as he slowly becomes aware that his way of thinking can be challenged.

>>@GB’s post

FD continued…
Immortals of Shuyuntian
At the Immortals Exam, the senior Immortals finally come to save Fairy from the possessed monster, but are more interested in interrogating her than in thanking her for saving the lives of the other fairies attacked by Ying Zhao.

When they saw what was taking place, all they kept saying was: “Why is this happening?” They have to work on their security a lot more. Not only do they have a Haishi member and his Minion illegally visiting their realm, while tossing evil spirits about, but also the most feared Dongfang Qingcang and his dragon invisibly walking among them.

They discover the evil spirit that changed the monster, and since only the Moon tribe and sinful mortals rear such evil creatures, it finally dawns on them that they may not have rounded up all the sinful mortals who escaped from Haotian Tower. Strange that they should miss checking on the main tenant of the tower!!!

We learn that refining evil spirits requires a lot of primordial spirits of the dead, and the Soul Transformation Cauldron which was lost. (Obviously they haven’t checked Haishi City). They ask themselves, why evil spirits had disappeared in the 3 realms but were now they appearing in Shuiyuntian … hmmm could it be because it’s run by incompetent immortals?

>>@GB’s post

FD continued …
Rong Hao
Meantime, evil-to-ambivalent Rong Hao and Minion (the evil butterfly) put their heads together (they are smarter than the rest of the Immortals) with the added clue that Minion had been burnt by hellfire.

RH has figured out that the mysterious being who disrupted Haishi was really Dongfang Qingcang. Thanks to Rong Hao we learn: “His body cannot be destroyed and his primordial spirit cannot be reincarnated. He is the real immortal. In the past the immortals scattered his primordial spirit and sealed him in the Haotian Tower.”

He even guesses correctly that possibly when they tried to reinforce the Haotian Matrix, a little fairy was sucked into the tower. Could that little fairy break the seal and gather the primordial spirit of Dongfang Qingcang? But in order for that fairy to have succeeded to bring back Dongfang Qingcang, she would have to be the Goddess of Xishan. Only the Goddess of Xishan can restore souls.

Rong Hao designs a simple test to see if Fairy can purify the evil spirit in the dead plant he asks her to heal. Since she successfully purified the evil spirit and brought it back to life, she had proven to be the Goddess of Xishan, but she herself is not aware of this.

Rong Hao goes to his Master’s Chidi Woman’s side. She killed herself but appears to be sleeping. RH claims to be suffering everyday without her, and is determined to find a way to save her. So Fairy’s ability to bring life back to the so-called ‘dead’ will be useful to him.

>>@GB’s post

FD continued …
Chang Heng
He has no clue that his best friend is preparing to use him to get rid of their common enemy so that Haishi City will gain the upper hand in the 3 realms. He continues naïve and clueless, and foolish over the girl that he thinks he cannot marry anyway. Pity the girl likes him.

By Episode 14 we see that Chang Heng has been carrying a torch for Fairy for some 500 years. He had returned from war in a bad state, and she’d nursed him and been his friend. She had considered him her first friend. He had been sad to leave her. We presume he wiped her memory of this period because he didn’t want her to be sad as well, and perhaps because he was engaged to marry someone else.

When he returns to Shuiyuntian, he endeavours to give her the Firefly Stone, without making it obvious that it’s a gift. This seems an unwise move, since he seems to know that if a fairy is found to have this stone, it would appear that she had an affair with him, and they would both be in trouble. Therefore I question his thinking when he not only left that stone for her to find. He even deposits the firefly that could go into the stone for her. And then he has to totally undo all this when another fairy, Yu Lu? replicates the stone, and claims that he gave it to her. Not very smart, these Immortals.

>>@Viva’s reply to @Kate

@Kate Thanks! I checked again and it also said available in one day. Hopefully it means my region gets it too. I think I will give this show a go. It has that Hong Kong Police vs organised crime show feel. Remind me of Tony Leung and Andy Lau’s Infernal Affairs. I haven’t tried a C drama in this genre and I heard that it was stuck for approval for two years. At the end it can only be released online and not TV. It will be interesting to see how C drama production deals with potential police corruptions, underlying cover mission gone wrong, and will the good guy really be the good guy at the end.

This would be a good show to sandwich between FD. A shot of not so glamourous side of the society and a shot of fairy tale romance.

>>@Kate’s reply to @Viva

@Viva – I will take a look as well.

The last C-drama police thing I watched was very carefully choreographed to avoid the type of problems you describe. ‘Storm Eye’ with Yang Mi.

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

@GB

Enjoying your commentary and laughing too at your deconstruction of the goodies! This is great stuff!

Rong Hao – what a mixture!

Now, we see more ambivalence in Rong Hao who gives sacrificially of himself to save Lord Ch’s life after the first trip to try to save Fairy Orchid. RH is, in some ways, the biggest baddie because he is duplicitous. But he also loves Lord Ch as a brother. Rong Hao claims it is a strategic move but that is hard to believe in view of the great cost to himself.

The baddies who are goodies

Too many examples too count of the Moon Tribe, DQ and his loyal dragon friend demonstrating fairness and loyalty and making ethically sound decisions!

Moon Supreme and women

Why are the women of the Moon Supreme court surprised when our ML (who is really our FL) refuses their attentions? Dragon comrade says that Moon Supreme doesn’t have dealings with women. What is the deal here?

Moon Supreme and feelings

Because of having all his feelings sucked out of him our ML tells FL he can’t love her and manage ‘hellfire’ correctly.

But he is experiencing feelings such as jealousy and concern and is still handling ‘hellfire’.

I am puzzled about this unless there is a ‘tipping point’ where his love for our FL becomes too defined for him to have mastery of ‘hellfire’.

>>@Kate’s post

Another puzzlement is the number of times people are blasted with ‘hellfire’ and seem to just pick themselves up and walk away! Just how powerful is this stuff?!

Puzzled of Viewer Land

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

@Kate, you raise good questions… the sort I used to raise but when it comes to cdramas LOL I’ve given up asking. I take it as “oh, there’s another one of those pesky illogical things characters say which don’t play out as said.”

Yes, we don’t know to what extent love will upset MS’s ability to control hellfire. And yes, it gives a nasty burn but not much else. Of course it’s to do with magnitude as well. That time MS saved Fairy in Haichi, he used a lot of ‘special effects’ power. I’m not sure that hellfire was one of the weapons, but likely. I was impressed that he made swords and soldiers disintegrate… but that was probably not hellfire.

The other illogical thing… they can most of them magically appear and disappear… so why do they do so much walking? LOL. I guess using magic is energy consuming. But imagine how many times they’d have surprised and killed all their enemies!!! What’s taking them so long to kill off characters?

You have a point,… RH probably does have some brotherly feeling towards SH. I actually don’t like the actor’s face and expressions, but he’s ok as an actor, at least in this show.

As for Moon Supreme and women, one assumes that his brother Xun Feng must have dallied with the ladies. It was expected of any ‘master’ in that realm. Dragon knew that MS, having no feelings, hardly cared for female company. In any case 30,000 years alone might qualify as not having dealings with women. Heheheh!

I’m cynically enjoying the show. It can be heaps of fun. I watched one of the videos of the OST, and it gave away spoilers…. but I endeavour to forget LOL. I do like the OSTs… like the one that played when they ….err…. shared oxygen underwater. 😉

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

@GB,

Helpful conversation.

Heaps of fun indeed. I think you should write a piece on it!

Yes, that’s interesting re ‘hellfire’ deployment and its impact. Does seem to depend on many unknown factors!!

I don’t like that actor’s face either! Incidentally, he plays an ambiguous role turned baddie in A Dream of Splendor too. He does have proper acting chops which is why he gets these nuanced roles I think!

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

FD…
@Kate, Speaking of ‘hellfire,’ I just rewatched Ep 9. That’s where we really get to see a lot of hellfire and what it can do. Still it didn’t seem to really hurt anyone, just kept up a shield of sorts and was able to take off the top of a tower. We assume MS wasn’t aiming to kill. He controls it like it’s a snake of blue flame.

I liked the rather lackadaisical way MS tossed his hellfire around. It looked relatively effortless for him and all the Immortals couldn’t do a thing to him.

The dragon ride to Wind Plain should have lasted longer with more clear images. It also raises the question… with a dragon in tow, why bother with a slow boat? LOL.

>>@birdie007’s reply to @kate and @GB

@kate @gb —I’ve flown through FD in the last few days and reading all of your commentary has added much enjoyment to the whole experience. It’s not a hate watch at all for me, I truly do like it, but it’s definitely not one that takes itself too seriously.
*Some spoilers for eps 1-14*
1. Ive never seen the FL before and the ML only in meteor garden. Making it past Esther’s voice was my first hurdle.
2. During their first body switch, when there was the suggestion to do what they did in order to switch back, the ML caresses his lips in wonderment and bewilderment I knew I would be sticking around to see how all of this played out. Their second switch was even better. When Esther plays Dq in the fairy body she looks much more beautiful and Orchid inside DQ brought many laughs. The way “he” did the hair toss, rolled on the bed, got tangled in his robes..all of it was perfect. When it came time for the fairy bloodshed, I was full on LOL. I liked the way they handled the bath. One question, do they not have to use the bathroom in this world? I think that would’ve come up before bathing had ever been an issue. As far as the women not knowing DQ didn’t have relations with women, I assume they must have come to be sometime during his 30000 year absence.
2. The rulers of Shenyiun —wow, could they be more obtuse? Thankfully the fairies seem to have more wits about them and I need their bullying of orchid once she saved them.
3. Cheng- his character is great for SML. He’s powerful-but not AS powerful as the main lead- humble, honest, handsome, a good friend, and a previous relationship/meeting with the FL that he nobly erased from her memory.
4. When the bodies were still switched and DQ was questioning cheng about what would happen if he took Orchid back to Shenyiuan, I think she realized he will never be better, stronger, or more powerful than DQ, but she still stuck with the answer that Cheng was better when DQ asked her while he was eating her flower cookies-though it was obvious bravado.
5. I’m hoping Dq and his brother reconcile.
6. R has a redemptive arc -It seems all of his “bad” deeds have been done for the sake of saving Chidi. And goodness knows he seems to be the only one capable of connecting the dots of orchid as goddess Xichin. It is off putting when he makes his servants take on the form of Chidi though… as far as people not being able to recognize him, I have the same questions for the people who can’t recognize Bruce Wayne as Batman and Clark Kent as Superman—-you can still SEE them 🙄
7. Although it’s easy to dismiss all of the scenes as just poor production/prettiness, you’re right GB. On a second viewing you are more aware things actually do have meaning to the story—like his emotion tree thawing and gradually spouting leaves.
8. I think the make up is really well done and I love all the beaded pieces in the women’s hair.
9. From what I gather, the main point here is that emotions don’t make you weak, they make you better and stronger. Even if he’s not able to control hellfire (which as Kate pointed out, it seems not to be that damaging anyway since they keep bouncing back), he can still defeat the “baddies” with a collective effort. And no one is meant to be an island and we are all better off for making connection to others.

>>@Kate’s comment

LOL!! Another question re the whys of this and that mode of transport.

The mystery of the slow boat.

For low visibility entry into the region?

>>@birdie007’s comment

Apologies—I meant to go back and correct the spelling of the names and places but I forgot. Hopefully you’ll be able to figure out who/where I mean

>>@Kate’s post to @birdie007

@birdie007 – so glad you are also enjoying this fantasy romp! I really enjoyed your thoughts on the show thus far. Responding to one or two:

1.Esther Yu’s voice iS a challenge and I don’t think it is the dubbing, sadly. I agree she is far more attractive when in DQ mode! I think it is testament to the appeal of the storyline and other factors that we got over that hurdle!

3. Re Cheng as perfect second ML… yes …that makes sense! I was wondering whether DQ would do a very noble thing for Fairy Orchid to end up with Cheng. But if he is the lesser option, as you suggest, that doesn’t compute as a good ending.

6. Laughed about the Batman parallel. I hope RH is redeemed too in this story. A lot of suffering here. Perhaps his redemptive arc will be sacrificial in the end…?

9. Yes… that makes sense of the whole.

I want to add too that when people break ‘the rules’ and follow their hearts, they are led to the deepest truth and the best relationships and out of ‘stuckness’. That’s what I loved about the big upset in the Fairy ceremony… Orchid’s deepest truth upsets the whole shebang!

>>@Kate’s addendum

ps should have added that that final comment was in the context of this storyline rather than being a life motto!

>>@GB’s response to @birdie007

Hi @birdie, wow, you’ve caught up fast. Yes, it’s a very light, fun watch. No real tension to speak of.

I love every scene where Dylan W plays fairy. Sooooo good. Such dainty steps, so much head tilting and expression, the way he holds up the robe and got his headdress caught in the curtain LOLOL. The higher pitched voice alone should have given the game away.

Yeah, I noticed too that no one needs the bathroom LOL. One wonders why they need to even eat or sleep.

It’s interesting that you say

Perhaps it was her loyalty speaking, but I always felt that Fairy was rather blind when it came to Chang Heng. She hero worshipped him on top of having a crush on him. I also tend to feel Fairy is truthful, so she’d express what she really believes.

I usually want siblings to reconcile, however I strangely do not care for dear Xun Feng. I guess show will go that way though.

Rong Hao and his obsession … I’m not sure Chidi Woman would want to be resurrected to be part of the evil of Haishi City. It seems RH took it upon himself to make a quest of bringing her back to life, but although he had the Destiny Book and Chidi’s body, he never thought of getting the Destiny Book fixed, in all 30,000 years. *shakes head* He’s still smarter than most but at the moment MS seems to be a little ahead.

MS took 1 look at the Destiny Book and figured out what to do.

About the makeup… Show has really made MS’s face very white, for a guy. He’s like an alabaster statue when he just stares woodenly. I like that he does not mind Fairy calling him Wooden Head.

Yes, the set up for growth by regaining emotions and becoming more human has been put in place. I want to see MS as an ordinary mortal, before he goes back to becoming a true immortal. Hopefully his stint as a mortal will make him a better immortal, and yes, with loads of connections with others, for united strength.

In Episode 11 he says he only trusts himself, but we see that after this, he considers what Fairy says about trusting Shang Que. It’s good to see him developing a warmer heart.

>>@Viva’s reply to @GB

FD

Include spoilers up to ep 9

Haha @GB! Yes with a dragon in two why the boat? I do love this CG dragon! It is fearsome but not evil type scary. A very good looking Chinese dragon! The best thing about this show is its CGI, the colour palette, the fairy costume. Warm colours around Orchid, cold blue around MS.

I thought it was very funny when the two moon tribe guys couldn’t spot love! Is it in episode 8? When MS felt jealous to see Orchid and C Heng married later in the mirror. They thought it was a tricky spell. Really he has fallen in love.

So how to show “true love” according to this show? It is when you can feel exactly the other person feels. She dies, you die. She is sad, you are sad. So you want to protect and keep her happy with all you can so you don’t need to die and feel sad. With this in mind, all you do and say turn out to be touching.

They also did a good mask this time. It does cover the Rong Hao’s face well enough that it makes it hard to guess his true identity in the earlier episodes.

>>@Kate’s reply to @Viva

@Viva,

Yes, the CG dragon is wonderful.

I was wondering whether the boat on the sea/river of forgetfulness was the only way through from one kingdom to another and then you need Dragon transport! But may be overthinking! haha

Re Moon Tribe guys and their blind spot…yes!

Re how you show love… Fairy Orchid gets more ‘aha moments’ re love and DQ but it is in later episodes so won’t spoil that for you.

>>@GB’s reply to Viva

@Viva, Yes, although I’ve got other shows to watch, I find myself wanting to go back to this one. It’s very beautiful, as you say. The CGI and the colours, not to mention the austere beauty of Dylan W. LOL.

I’m sure MS will be in long denial about being in love with anyone. He protests that he cannot fall in love, but we see by Ep 16 that his Heart Sea and Love Tree are becoming thawed out and starting to bud with green leaves.

I laughed at all the romantic turns of phrases about when she dies, he dies etc… she took it to mean that he really cared about her, but he was just being literal LOL.

All the fanciful masks in period dramas are terribly creative, but not very practical for soldiers, LOL. They can’t see anyone sneaking up on them.

Yes, Rong Hao’s mask is a bit better for hiding his identity. I’d normally look askance at people who need to wear masks. It’s like they lack confidence or have something to hide. RH of course needs to keep his best pal from finding out that he’s a double dealing immortal with his own agenda.

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

Hi @Kate, I’m still enjoying this fluffy FD show. I’m in for the romance but I like the magical, fantastical fights too!

FD EPISODE 13 – the Romance so far

*SPOILERS*

CH (and later RH) come to rescue Fairy from the Moon Tribe. Fairy in the body of MS, gives up her chance to return with CH to Shuiyuntian. Instead she chooses to swap back to her own body, so that MS would not be killed by RH. MS back in his own body, nonchalantly tosses CH and Rong Hao away and kisses Fairy for good measure in front of CH to spite him. *Tut tut* (Lots of delicious kissing in this show!)

When Shang Que reports that Fairy has gained status in the eyes of the Silent Moon Palace for saving the master, and that this shows her desire to be a loyal subject, MS was obviously hopeful it would have been a sign of more… like perhaps that she liked him enough to want to save him for himself. He rescinds the order to have her restrained. She’s free to go about safely and even have a banquet in her honour. All the time that he’s alone, he’s fingering his Jade Ring… the one that keeps him from feeling Fairy’s emotions. It’s obvious that he very much wants to know what she’s feeling and thinking, especially regarding himself.

Although he won’t officially attend the banquet, we see that he goes secretly and makes the petals fall like snow around the ladies to augment their joy. He finally removes the ring while hiding behind a tree listening to the delight of the ladies, and smiles to enjoy experiencing Fairy’s innocent joy, secretly, together with her. He’s well on the way to being half human, without the Jade Ring.

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

FD EPISODE 14 up to EPISODE 16 on Jie Li

*SPOILERS*

We are re-introduced to the scamming shop keeper, Jie Li. I thought she was a throwaway character when we first came across her, but it’s interesting that Show is making more of her. It seems that Fairy’s stealing of the Destiny Book has brought the wrath of Haishi upon Jie Li as well.

She is on the run and in Cangyan to get her money back from Fairy. She seems to be someone very much in the know about the latest news and ancient lore, and it seems she can work both for good and for ill. She has her own stock of magic and lots of potions, (stolen) treasures, and magical things that can come in very helpful.

She turns up dressed as a Silent Moon Palace maid to accost Fairy. She’s a good plot device to bring lost treasures into the open, to get Shang Que to reveal more about MS and to lead Fairy into more foolish shenanigans that require MS’s saving her and to push the plot along. She will also be the one who starts off as an anti but becomes a fan of the ever good-hearted Fairy, and possibly a very important character later, plus a love interest of one black dragon(?)

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

@GB

Thank you. What fun. Glad you are still enjoying. I am too.

Episodes 13 – 16

I had forgotten what the jade ring was – aha- all makes sense now!

There were some super sequences in this episode and the flower petal party was lovely! Our ML couldn’t help but go and enjoy Orchid’s exuberance while standing behind a tree. And, of course, she was looking for him too! He is very tender when he is not on guard.

They are very sweet together in this tentative romance.

She calls him ‘Wooden Head’ to keep things informal! haha. He doesn’t mind!

Enjoyed the involuntary laughter and tears scene with ML unable to prevent Orchid’s emotions magically transferring to him during that meant-to-be serious court scene. What was funny too was the 2 courtiers trying to make sense of it in a way that was respectful to the great Moon Supreme!

Agreed on your proposal for Jie li.. Isn’t it interesting that our Dragon has such high moral values!

I am now intrigued about the real story of the killing of DQ’s father.

Someone bad has had to interfere. All those lovely football playing memories and then that change in the father and young DQ, apparently, killing him in cold blood!?

Also, poor Lord Ch! He is a genuine guy. He is very brave too. What IS his brother doing? His brother has got to be dodgy or is he just a representative of the Fairy Immortals being behind the times?

>>@GB’s response to @Kate

@Kate, I too forgot what the issue with the Jade Ring was. When I go through the episodes one after the other, the details get lost. The thing is that to get a better idea of what’s going on, I need to rewatch, but I won’t have time to keep doing that.

I like your use of the word ‘tender’ for MS. The flashback of him as a child carving the wooden statue of Yanny, adds a note of pathos for what could have been, had he not been the son chosen to be MS. Between him and his brother, it seemed like the father wanted Xun Feng to become the MS. There were memories of the old lady and MS himself of good times hunting, playing, with his father. I, too, wonder where that all went.

There seems to be missing scenes of the brothers playing together as well. I’d have thought it was more natural for the boys to spend time together.

Yes, it’s surprising that a Supreme person does not mind being called Wooden Head. At least he’s not always so full of himself. I fancy it’s more that he engenders fear in others that they trip over themselves to appease him, but he personally does not seem too much of a diva. He did give leave for the cook to return to his family and just sighed over the food he didn’t want to eat.

Yes, together with Fairy, I’m also curious about what happened about the public killing of MS’s father. You may be right. Just as now, the Haishi bunch interfere, perhaps in the past, someone else changed the attitude of the father for MS.

In my notes on FD EPISODE 15 I had …Chang Heng goes off half baked to Cangyan to rescue Fairy (a likely suicide mission but fools must). Of course his ‘Eye in the Sky’ brother locates him immediately and he ends up in good old Haotian Tower for a spell.

Yeah that constipated looking Yun Zhong doesn’t do a thing to fix the problems. He just wants the rules to be abided by. Even the Four Water Pearl Tower thing was fixed by CH and not YZ or any of the other senior Immortals. They just stand there judging others, while not doing any work.

Also in Ep 15, Jie Li and Dragon have a great chit chat. We find that though both were orphans and mistreated by those who cared for them (with lies and scheming), Jie Li is out to take advantage of anyone she can and exact revenge if possible, while Dragon swears he will not be like his tormentors. Instead he would be upright and trustworthy. They argue about being foolishly warm-hearted or self-centred and cold hearted and can’t agree. What polar opposites and of course they’ll be great together.

>>@Kate’s reply to @GB

@GB –

I re-watched the first 2 episodes but haven’t done as you have and tracked back for more detail. I think I may do a complete re-watch when all the episodes are out. They are packing the plot with interesting stuff eh?

I love your take on the senior Immortal Fairies ‘constipated looking’ Yun Zhong! Haha.

Yes Lord Ch. has lost some of the restraint and wisdom of his high office in his desperation. Agreed. He’s not strategic at the moment and is vulnerable to constipated brothers and other dangers!

Yes, agreed MS is no diva. He prefers courage to cowering before him.

His deepest truest self is a sweetheart! Sniff.

>>@GB’s comment to @Kate

FD EPISODES 17 and 18
Just couldn’t resist watching both Episodes. Show is doing a good job of moving along with revelations and other good stuff. Most satisfying. So unlike Shows which used to tread water to make up 50 episodes or something. I hope the Show does not lose pace.

About the ‘romantic’ aspect…

I somehow don’t think Viewers will consider cinnabar (or blood!) drawn on a person’s face as thanks, all that romantic!!! LOL.

I feel to us, the most obvious way to solve the Shuiyuntian versus Moon Tribe debacle is the political marriage. It’s practically in place, except for that little issue of the girl supposedly being meant for a fairy guy, which won’t wash with the Moon guy. Yes, we can see the conflict from miles away.

>>@Kate’s comment

Loved these episodes @GB!

Both were moving, especially 18!

And I rather liked the unique way our ML said thank you to Fairy Orchid… rather swoony. He was holding her face in his hands -and there was vulnerability and trust between them. Give me the cinnabar in that way say I!

Interesting theory re how to solve the stand-off. I suspect someone will make a sacrificial move – what about RH in his own redemptive arc??

>>@Kate’s comment

os he was marking her has his own with the cinnabar symbolic of his own blood. Hmmmm

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate

@Kate, I expected that if he had to mark her face as a note of thanks, that it would be a dot on the forehead and not a smear on the cheek. He is tender, though, so that was sweet.

I was amused that the great Lord didn’t mind appearing with mussed hair before his favourite fairy. He obviously trusts her completely. If he suspects that she has other loyalties, he will be so upset. Still, she’d always told him from the start that it was CH in her heart and not him.

It was a nice respite, not having CH meddling. He’s taken a big risk and lost a lot for his love. He is no longer the God of War, so what will that make him? I don’t know if it has any bearing on his powers, or just that he gets demoted.

Yes, good idea. Someone ambivalent like RH would make a good sacrificial subject later on, out of love for his long-time friend, CH. Show is careful that we don’t get attached to characters who might get the axe before the end. 😉

>>@Kate’s post

Yes… I am wondering too about CH… we are due a status update on him or perhaps someone will go on a journey to break him out of H tower…

I am wondering if there will be an alliance in the end between the good Moon Tribe members and the enlightened Fairies.

FD

Ep 17 – 18

I’m up to date now! I laughed when MS still needed Orchid to walk by him but stood up right away after hearing his brother has turned up.

Yes me too @GB, I kept choosing this drama over the others on my watch list. The romance is getting lovely to watch. The kind girl helping a lonely guy to reconnect with his emotions is nothing new, but still captivating to watch.

I too like Dylan Wang’s version of Orchid. Thankfully he hasn’t overdone the cuteness so makes it funny to watch. I’m getting used to Esther now.

@Kate, I went and looked at the trailer. If you are looking for spoilers/status of CH. Actually the trailer has a fair bit of spoilers on everyone.

Poor CH, I have nothing to fault his love for Orchid. He really has tried.

MS and Orchid are so in love now! What missing is acknowledgement now.

I do expect one of Orchid or MS to die to make us cry. The question is if they get to come back to live. 🤔

I think the CG is well done here. I watched Yang Yang’s Martial Universe before and the CG there gave me a headache. None of it here! It adds to the story and does what Xian Xia does the best.

>>@Kate’s reply to Viva

@Viva –

Yes, MS is learning how to get the attention he needs – haha!

Thanks for the tip on the trailer … I’m making up lots pf theories at the moment.

Does anyone else wonder whether constipated-looking Lord Y may be more than just constipated? I’ll bet there is another reveal about the real story 30,000 years ago and I’ll put money on RH being deluded into playing his dark role.

Yes, MS and Fairy Orchid have been through so much and the closeness and love are there.

She did a great job of not saying anything during the conversation between MS junior and MS senior! She has a wisdom, at times, which points to a far greater essential identity.

Loved her resolve as she bravely dived into the ‘sea’ to visit MS senior!

Does anyone else wonder whether constipated-looking Lord Y may be more than just constipated or short-sighted? I’ll bet there is another reveal about the real story 30,000 years ago and I’ll put money on RH being deluded into playing his dark role by another dark entity.

>>@GB’s reply to @Kate and @Viva

Hi @Kate and @Viva,
You won’t believe what I’m doing now. Decided that waiting until 10:30pm to get my fix of this FD show was a bit of a long wait, and am checking out another Dylan Wang outing called ‘Miss the Dragon’ (2021). Neither as pretty and the colours are mostly muted whites and pastels, nor a plot that’s so interesting as FD, but it is cute in that the hero, a Dragon King, is trying to pay back the maid’s good deed by following the plot in a risque book LOL. It’s set in the human world with mythical beings of other realms coming and going like nobody’s business.

FD – yeah, MS was trying to play at being pathetic but had already recovered his strength. Fairy was not impressed.

I’ve been avoiding the music videos and trailers to avoid the spoilers, but I can guess what happens. Truth to tell, I don’t miss CH at all. Yes he did try to be the man in Fairy’s life, but now the reverse has happened and she has another person in her heart instead of CH. It will take quite a bit of convincing to get CH to believe that she’s happy at Moon Palace, though.

Yes, we can expect a couple of lives to be suffered through before more resurrection takes place. The first we are hearing off now is that Chidi Woman is going to be reborn as Wan Qing in the human realm, and her primordial spirit is to be taken (by Xun Feng) to revive the Sword that will unlock the soldiers. So a foray into the human world is up soon.

I agree the CGI in this show is very good.

@Kate
I guess we may get more backstory on Yun Zhong, although show has him there as the usual god plot device and I’m not particularly interested in him. There were probably other things at stake in that 30,000 years ago war.

The thing is that we hear Yanny was betrayed by some lover of hers, from the fairy kingdom and that caused a rift between the Moon tribe and fairy folks. So what was the war between Chidi and Moon tribe about?

Yun Zhong and the senior gods were around but CH had been too young. It seems that the fairies and Chidi had ganged up against the Moon tribe and sealed MS in H Tower.

Separately there’s RH, who is an immortal fairy too, but for some reason he considers Chidi his master and is obsessed with bringing her back. To do so, he created a new place, Haishi City where he’s playing with dark magic.

I’m not sure he was tricked. He has a choice, but he chose an evil way to get what he wants.

I find it cute that these ‘weak’ characters will claim that they don’t have much power, but they are the ones who do all the courageous things. Yes, ‘her resolve as she bravely dived into the ‘sea’ to visit MS senior!’ was most inspiring.

>>@Kate’s response to @GB

@GB – I do believe it! I can relate to the need for the closest equivalent of the current show I am watching. Will take a look later at the alternative DW show. [I am also obsessive about Love Like the Galaxy – so am bouncing between two very different worlds].

As you and @Viva said – this show really pulls you in. I am so happy when the episodes are subbed. I get my evening meal and I watch happily!

Yes, good point re Lord Y – maybe he is just a figure who performs a role in this story. That said, we never see what is going on in his head… and why does he act so quickly to imprison poor Lord Ch? I’m just bearing in this in mind… in case…

Yes to the strength of the ‘weak’ characters!

I still reckon RH has swallowed some story that has kept him in thrall to Chidi Woman and will be devastated when he discovers that all is not as he thought. I just think there may be another puppet master and it isn’t him. He isn’t benefiting enough from the current status quo. Who is?

>>@agdr03’s post to @Kate

@Kate, I like Dylan Wang since MG. 🙂 That’s my first drama with him and he did great there. I thought the whole drama was good except for the last episode. After watching it, I was like, ‘what happened?.’ hehehe

I’m trying to do catch up with my kdramas but things are just busy but I’ll see if I can catch up with you ladies for FD. 🙂

>>@Kate’s post to @agdr03

@agdr03 – ahh… glad you enjoyed MG too and like DW!

It would be great if you can catch up with us for FD! I think it is 36 episodes in total. So we are at the half way point.

>>@GB’s reply to Kate

Hi @Kate, @grace, @Viva, yes, we’ll keep this thread alive with our comments on FD and Big Mouth and other shows. So we can all come and have some fun lurking from time to time.

Ad Hoc Thoughts on FD Episodes 18-22

*SPOILERS*

Now that we’re in the mortal realm, we have added relationship complications.

I’m wondering if we’re going to have a love hexagon or heptagon. It’s getting confusing. Our couples are criss-crossing and an issue of complexity is added by Dan Yin who is now a boy???

Dan Yin – Chang Heng – Fairy Orchid might have been 1 triangle, but we have to add on Moon Supreme/QC, which makes it a quadrangle. And in the mortal realm we have to add on Chidi, which makes it a pentagon!! Of course RH will not be far behind (hexagon) and Die Yi (RH’s Minion) will not want to be left behind (heptagon?)

Was I mistaken but did Dan Yin as a ‘boy’ interest our Jie Li a bit? (octogon) LOL. Then our Black Dragon/Shang Que will not be pleased (nonagon)

And all this time we’ve had the unacknowledged and much denied Fairy Orchid – MS/QC romance, and the long destined Fairy Orchid – CH wedding.

The Chidi mortal arc is messy. Of course when MS/QC was looking around for Mr Right, we just knew he was a dunce! It was him there at that time, afterall.

Rong Hao – Chidi – Moon Supreme/QC a pretty complicated triangle since RH wants to save Chidi and MS wants to take her primordial spirit. I feel that everyone has forgotten that in the end the goddess will be able to restore life/heal even without primordial spirits. I’m holding out hope that this fluffy war-cum-romantic comedy will end off with everyone mostly alive and people brought back from the dead.

>>@GB’s response to @grace

In Episode 16, it felt like MS was trying to regain his reputation of being mean and cruel. Previous to his wanting to execute Jie Li immediately, he’d been a veritable teddy bear.

SIGNS THAT HE’S NOT AS MEAN AS MADE OUT TO BE
– He lets Jie Li steal repeatedly without caring and let’s her off.
– He let Fairy rescue Jie Li even after threatening her with imprisonment the first time.
– He did not punish the old lady for demanding to know why the sons and husbands did not return, when MS did.
– He took more than half the lightning strikes meant for his brother upon himself.
– All his Hellfire never killed anyone.
– He never revealed to his own people what he went through and why he did not return for 30,000 years. I was kind of surprised that the common people did not know.

In Episode 16, Fairy asked why MS never revealed how hard he worked for the Moon Tribe to the people who did not understand why he had disappeared. “Why didn’t you explain back then. You didn’t mean to abandon them. And you work so hard for the whole Moon Tribe. You’ve never slacked off. Why?”

Up to Episode 18-20
MS says he has no reason why he didn’t tell his people what happened to him, and throws back Fairy’s words about people being allowed to keep secrets. With him wearing the Jade Ring and her wearing the Heart-Hiding/Hidden Hair Pin, they are going to end up misunderstanding each other a whole bunch. At the moment he will still experience her physical wounds, but we see that his brother YF is out to fix the Chen Ying sword. That will sever the Heart Curse that binds them.

>>@Viva posted

@GB, I feel RH and butterfly lady will die and they should? After all the crimes he has done and also they are side characters 😂. So turn out Dong Fang is Chidi’s Mr Right after all. That’s a plot twist. I guess that’s the hardship she gets after sealing him for 300000 years?

>>@Viva’s comment to @GB

FD

Thanks for the write up @GB! I found eps 18 to 22 a bit of a filler. Also Orchid and Dong Fang are going through a patch of not being honest with each other. So naturally less swoony moments. It’s a phase of ‘please grow out of it’ in the drama.

On the positive side, I like their styles as mortal. Particularly Dylan’s. Very neat without the extras when he was in moon supreme mode.

Ep 22 is informative and reveals the power of Orchid holds. That explains more how she can give lives. It’s funny to see the one sided bromance from CH to Dong Fang. As mortal CH is really doing everything he wasn’t as a God. Irresponsible, and being best friend with his enemy!

>>@GB’s response to @Viva

@Viva, yes, Episodes 21 and 22 were mostly filler.

The only points I got out of them:
– RH plays the flute well and Wan Qing recognises the music from her past life. No one else can hear the flute. Not even MS.
– By going to Life Ending Pavilion to save CH, fairy gets involved in his hardship experience. He recognises her as the fairy in his dreams and is unaware that he’s correct when he says that heaven destined them for each other.
– Fairy is jealous that Wan Qing is crazy about the mysterious Mr Right who is MS.
– Fairy and MS are becoming more aware of each other or of their attraction for each other.
– We get the backstory of how RH and Evil God come to a mutually beneficial partnership.

Over and over again, the problems faced by all the protagonists is due to their inordinate attachment to someone or something. RH is willing to become evil because of his attachment to Chidi.

If someone chose to die, let them go, for heaven’s sake. But he must force her to remain in limbo while he colludes with evil. She may not appreciate that at all.

FD Episode 23 and 24
More filler, but there were some noteworthy bits.

*SPOILERS*

The to-date or not-to-date episodes where MS and Fairy refuse to acknowledge how they feel about each other, while they wallow in jealousy. It’s fortunate that Fairy and MS had so many romantic moments before, that no activity Xiao Run can offer her will take her mind off MS, who did all those things with her already.

One good thing we learn is that MS loves Fairy enough to respect her privacy. He does not exchange the Heart-Hiding Hairpin or remove his Jade Ring. So he remains in ignorance of Fairy’s true feelings.

Yun Zhong shows himself to be as bad as the Moon Tribe family since he tells Dan Yin to kill his own brother in the mortal realm, risking his primordial spirit.

So when Dan Yin returns to Yun Meng, will she remember everything? I guess so. Her hardship experience will be much greater than expected.

RH and Die Yi kill all the poor border guards, presumably to refine more evil spirits for Evil God.

  1. I’ve reposted most of the comments on the drama.

But I still have to transfer your comments on the actors’ recent squabble on their livechat. 🙂

    pm3

  2. Woah . That’s a pleasant surprise. Didn’t know you all were discussing Love between fairy and devil. It is such a good drama. If one has to watch a single xanxia, this should be it.

  3. @packmule3 Thank you for transferring everyone’s comments on LBFD here. I had no idea there were others on BoD also watching this as raptly as me 😀 I have finished all 24 episodes currently subbed on Viki and it was so much fun to read all the comments from everyone above.
I have rewatched favorite scenes and what makes this such a great romantic drama for me is how the Moon Supreme truly transforms and starts caring for the fairy, not just because of the Heart Curse but genuinely. Orchid also, despite being irritatingly naive and too sugary sweet in the earlier episodes actually had a backbone and did not hesitate to put the ML in his place, if needed. She stood up to him repeatedly and also sometimes figured things out before him, like the kissing furing lightning being a condition for the soul transfer.
I like this drama because the relationship develops gradually and organically, and noone changes overnight or acts out of character.
I think the second lead is kind of weak, but I of course, am partial to Dong Fang (and Dylan Wang)😍 I have never disowned by penchant for choosing dramas based on their male lead’s degree of hotness😜

  4. *disowned my penchant for choosing dramas

Happy to discuss this drama with everyone here 🙂

  5. 🤣 I didn’t know either, @wapz.

I was called away on official business so I couldn’t bring any of my personal electronics. But when I arrived home, I scrolled through the comments and read one’s poster request for a separate thread. 🙂 I didn’t know the discussion flourished in my absence.

    Good for them. 👍

  6. The comments were hidden gems 💎 in the other thread.

I had to copy and paste quickly because I didn’t want spoilers. I’m only beginning Ep 7 (or is it 6?). I started it before I left so I’ve to check my notes to see where exactly I was interrupted.

  7. Episode 9 is good 👍

I agree with others herr on how visually appealing the costumes and scene settings are. The fights are like dances and the male leads look so entrancing even while fighting😍

  8. Kalispera Ladies,

Most likely I will watch it, but I am way behind you all.

I deliberately didn’t read your analyses in order not to get spoilers!

    See you laters!

  9. Thank you so much @pm3 for transferring the comments from the other thread here! Sending lots of cookies 🍪🍪🍪🍪 and 🍷🍷🍷🍷 for taking that time despite your busy schedule.

Glad there are so many of you to share the fun with 😀

  10. My pleasure, @grace. Just tell if I missed anything.

I’ll transfer the chatter about the actors’ online squabble later.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Wow @pkml3, thanks a whole bunch!!! You must have taken a lot of time to copy over all our comments. I didn’t want to trouble you, but I’m very glad you’ve done this. So 非常感谢 (Fēicháng gǎnxiè / thank you very much)!

I’m so pleased to know that you’re deciding to watch this as well. The hiatus came at the right time too, so we’ve all taken a breather while we wait until Sunday or so, when we can get the rest of the subbed episodes. So at least we’re not continually adding comments while you moving our old comments over.

This is really such an enjoyable show. It got me in the mood for more fluffy romance. I went back to 2021 and found another one with my favourite trope, contract marriage… a contemporary cdrama ‘Once We Got Married’. Not as succinct as ‘Business Proposal’, but somewhat along the same lines, at least to begin with. Just cut out all the side plots and concentrate on the couple… the romantic moments are many and silly, but somehow work.

However, the only show I really want to watch is this one, Love Between Fairy and Devil (or FD for short). 😉

  12. Thanks for the thread! pm3 <3 I am glad you are watching this one too!!!

Hey @GB, I went and checked out Dylan's The Rational Life in Netflix. OK to kill time. When I want to take a break from the very serious Being a Hero.

@Phoneix, we can so write another essay about Dong Fang! I found it very funny that his assistant and him couldn't figure out what jealousy is and attributed that the curse is complicated.

I particularly like Dong Fang's recuing Orchid scenes. Old school but still lovely to watch. He generally referred Orchid as his person, came along with avenger types background music and spectacular CGI fairy/demon fighting.

  13. I’m so glad to see these threads! I dropped AoS and caught up on LLTG (skipped through) so I decided to give this a try once 14 ish episodes were out. I got used to ending my day with those two episodes like a special ice cream treat and then BAM!!!! They ended!!!! I didn’t do my proper research and was unaware they changed the scheduling format. I have been able to catch up with the last two weeks worth of LLTG but tomorrow can’t come soon enough.

  14. @birdie007, all episodes of LLTG are up now so I’ll finish it and jump on this IT cdrama here BODS. 😄

  15. Thank you so much @Packmule3! As others have said – it’s great to see our conversations captured for this dedicated thread to expand the watching enjoyment of all and glad you are watching FD too!

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This is a reply to @grace’s comment on the First Impressions Episode 1-4 thread where she mentioned the lyrics of a song and the story. This is posted here because it gives spoilers.

@grace, you’ve got some of the plot from the lyrics. I like all the OSTs too and am waiting and hoping for the one they played when MS and Fairy were in the water and had to share oxygen. That was a nice piece.

    *SPOILERS*

The hypocrites (as I agree with MS to call the Fairy Realm folks) of the heavenly kingdom/Shuiyuntian or Fairy Realm who think themselves great heroes were likely the ones to start the division between races long before 30,000 years ago.

Yanny (or Yannv), a woman of the Moon Tribe was betrayed by someone of Shuiyuntian. I presume they were supposed to be married but that fell through and the enmity began.

Yanny took her personal vendetta too far though and involved the 2 tribes in wars. She was the first to master Hellfire because she rejected all emotional attachments after being hurt in love. Generations later, the Moon Tribe were still looking for someone who could master Hellfire the way Yanny had done, and Dongfang Qingcang (or QC/MS for short) was found to be able to carry the Hellfire Sword.

They had their great war between Moon Tribe and Shuiyuntian 30,000 years previously and as @pkml3 explained in her Ep 1-4 First Impressions thread, Chidi Woman, the First God of War sacrificed herself to seal the Moon Tribe soldiers and QC was left fighting alone. He was imprisoned in Haotian Tower, body separated from his primordial spirit, but could not be killed. He is a true Immortal.

One of the reasons that he failed in the war was because his brother, Yun Feng, who was supposed to bring an army, deliberately came late. He wanted QC to die so that he could take over as Moon Supreme. Somehow Rong Hao knew about this.

RH is an interesting character in that he is the only one to love Chidi. He’s the hidden enemy among the Shuiyuntian with only 1 agenda, ie to resurrect Chidi, even if it means colluding with the Evil God (who kept needing new souls to be transformed into evil spirits to keep him ‘alive’).

Separately Evil God had been sealed and kept under control by the Xilan/Wulan clan (of Xishan). Among them was a goddess who had the power to bring healing and restore life. When RH decimated the Xilan clan to get hold of the goddess for his beloved Chidi, goddess as a child was hidden away. No one would know what she looked like and even people who knew her would not recognise her.

Episode 1 starts from 30,000 years after the great war ended, with both QC and the goddess about to make a comeback.

The reason that QC and Fairy have a connection is that she is the goddess who was able to restore his spirit to his body and revive him. Her Wulan Holy Seal/Heart Curse was shared with him automatically when she inadvertently revived him. It seems to give them the ability to swap bodies when lightning strikes them, to give QC the ability to know her thoughts and feelings, and to get hurt when she is physically hurt. In order for her feelings to not interfere with him, he wears the Jade Ring. In order to keep her thoughts private, she now wears the Heart-Hidden/Hiding Hair Pin. However, whenever she gets wounded, he will end up with the same wound, hence he will know most of the time, when she needs help.

I do believe that Fairy suddenly wanted to keep the Hair Pin on because she realised that she has fallen in love with QC, but does not want him to know. By Episode 24 end, they still want outcomes whose process in being achieved are diametrically opposite, ie she wants unity of the 3 realms and no more war; he wants to regain the honour of and restore the Moon Tribe, by defeating the Shuiyuntian once and for all.

  17. @GB Thank you so much for that summary and background. I’m beginning to see a Romeo-Juliet type foreshadowing here of lovers from enemy sides being tied together by fate. I liked that conversation QC and Orchid had in the room of ice where QC is tender towards fairy when she asks him what her true identity is, and he tells her she will always be with him. To this, she reacts asking him if he can give up his vengeance for her. This is when their inherent conflicting gopals and motivations comes to the fore, (like you said). Though the fairy loves him, she can’t trust him because of his devious nature. QclC also keeps secrets from her while loving her. I also feel that at some time, that broken sword will be brought back by QC’s brother and the fairy will sacrifice herself for QC to bring peace between the two sides. Hopefully that will not be the end as they are immortals and can reincarnate.

@Viva Howdy! I totally see myself writing another section (like we did for Budiness Proposal) for how Dong Fang gradually becomes the perfect protective and caring boyfriend. Even though the rescuing plot line is cliche, I still really like the scenes where Dong Fang comes to rescue his girl when he feels she is in danger, as you said. Like in episode 9, when he comes to save her and burns everything in his anger, he looked so cool. The show does it really well how his motivation changes from saving her to save his own body to actually caring about saving her.

I’m looking forward to more genuine emotional kisses😝 So far, the kisses have only been necessitated for the soul transfer. I do hope we get a happy ending because they both deserve it🤞

  18. *sorry for the typos :(, I’m typing from my phone as I don’t have access to my laptop/tablet now.

  19. I realized I couldn’t find a good translation online and have taken the liberty to translate to the best I can. It is not poetic in english but at least it can grasp the meaning of the verse.

This is my favourite of all the OSTs and I think it captures the essence of this drama. In a way they were telling the drama story from the beginning! :O which you won’t realize till you have watched at least half the show.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks so much @grace. Yes, it captures the essence of the couple relationship. The fear of separation, the hopes and the longing. Just because of the history between the peoples, like @Phoenix says, they are like Romeo and Juliet, not ‘allowed’ to be together, but since DFQC does not follow rules, he won’t care. It’s more that Fairy will not be able to condone how he wants to unite the realms.

In the past it was a broken love relationship that started all the war. It will most appropriately be another love relationship that will stop all war.

I’m understanding the song more from DFCQ’s point of view, as if he’s speaking, although it’s Esther who is singing.

I like the part: ‘What I saw in your eyes was me.’ – the self-discovery and start of the change, simply because they met and she had the ability to heal his Love Tree. I agree with @pkml3 that the lights in Haotian Tower that were bouncing around, were probably his primordial spirit and the 7 emotions that had been put in limbo. When the goddess was in close vicinity, her ability to unite spirit and body naturally took over, and got her to revive him.

‘We once relied on each other through life and death, and once were against the world.’ – This is the situation that they are in once he took her to Cangyan Sea. Her world of Shuiyuntian rejected her.

‘To rewrite the ending that has yet to be completed’ – also hints at rejecting the rules and the so called fate of a Romeo-Juliet relationship.

‘I was once against the world’ – holds out hope. He will change his attitude with regards to the ‘world’.

When the last line says ‘In this lifetime…’ for DFCQ, that means forever. Come to think of it, the goddess could be a true Immortal too, so they are both able to live forever. So that line becomes even more romantic, since we take it as the one grand love, admitting no other, then there can only be each other or no one, which means they risk loneliness forever.

  21. @Grace Thank you for posting the OST lyrics – such beautiful words, to go along with the haunting music.

@GB I like your interpretation of the lyrics. I too think that because the fairy is a goddess, she is also immortal and they will be together in the end.

I wasn’t too into the whole body’swapping thing in earlier episodes to induce humour in the plot, but now the storyline has turned more serious as the stakes get higher and we are inching towards some resolution in the last 12 episodes (Viki says this series has 36 episodes).

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Episodes 25 and 26 – These were great episodes. No more filler. Lots happened with twists. Love the development. I’m suddenly worried for a minor character.

I’ll not leave spoilers yet. Watch and enjoy these episodes!!

  23. @GB I’m starting to watch episodes 25-36 today. Will be back to discuss😀

  24. Ep 25 and 26 were excellent. I’m not sure how much we can discuss here because not everyone is caught up with the latest episodes. But these were quite fast paced and action packed. Also everypne watching, avoid spoilers. These episodes are best watched without knowing anything. I did know a little because let’s be real it’s quite hard to avoid cdrama spoilers , much more than kdrama spoilers, still many unexpected things happened.

  25. @GB, yes the OST 1 is more of DFQC’s point of view, but sung by Orchid! This is such a all or nothing kind of love that is so grand that sounds romantic yet hints to the suffering they have gone through.

@Phonenix, I wonder in the soul swap the voice of Orchid in DFQC is Dylan’s real voice. I can’t imagine the dubber’s voice actually sounding like that. >D

I love the swapping back and how DFQC’s demeanour completely changed. It was really cool to watch.
I watched the interview where they talked about how they prepared to act the body swap. Esther would act how Orchid would be and Dylan would imitate her so he can catch Orchid’s demeanour.

I’m still at Ep17, my hubby was too tired tonight to stay up so I couldn’t quite watch ahead and will wait for tomorrow night continue (We still have AOS to watch and he actually dozed off 30mins into AOS -__-)
Anyway there is much to read up and get my facts about the FD right…so I will keep busy in the meantime 😛

@wapz, will try to follow your advice not to catch the spoilers. Though I have seen spoilers till ep24. Without context, it is hard to fully enjoy the story so I can’t wait to watch it in full.

  26. OST 2 translation
I realized my translations are written in more narrative form so we can understand in a less disjointed way. As lyrics are poetic, in the Chinese language, certain words can be easily dropped for efficiency, or swapped around so it sounds nicer.
Also I have added my notes in the brackets. It is a waste to miss out the underlying meanings expressed in those 4 word idioms that cannot be translated literally.

On another note, this is brushing up my Chinese here. Even though it is my mother tongue, it has been my struggling second language for me all my school life.

    OST 2
Finding You 寻一个你 (Xun Yi Ge Ni)
    Singer: Liu Yu Ning 刘宇宁

    沉迷在 你清澈的眼睛
Mesmerised in the clarity of your eyes
(清澈的眼睛 – Clear eyes usually describes a girl with simple, kind and gentle personality, or someone who has a clear conscience)
    是途经 最难忘的风景
Is the most unforgettable scenery to pass through
    无人可比拟 那些往昔
No one can ever replace what we’ve been through
    灿若繁星
That is as brilliant as a vast sky of stars

    不负我偏向苦海去
So that my tendency to go to the sea of bitterness is not wasted
    只为渡你

    不远万里
Ten thousand miles is not far (Idiom: not afraid of the long journey)
    只为朝夕
    Just for a day (朝=morning 夕=sunset)
    纵天下负尽 不负你
Even if the whole world turns its back on you, I will not.

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Wah Thanks @grace!!! I’ll get to the 2nd song lyrics soon. I just wanted to add to your comments.

This is such a all or nothing kind of love that is so grand that sounds romantic yet hints to the suffering they have gone through.

There are 2 forces at play. On the one hand the protagonists are in place because of circumstances that placed them in the right place and at the right time. On the other, they make decisions that tweak and twist the trajectories of their lives.

The thought did hit me, from the OST 1 lyrics, that although the song makes most sense at the end of the series, where our couple looks back and say how much they suffered, that it could also in a sense be a hint that in the past ie from 30,000 years before, since both Fairy as goddess and DFQC were actually alive at the same time … that they had been destined to unite the realms, even then, but circumstances got in the way. The lyrics could also mean that they suffered then and couldn’t get together at that time, but in the present although they were brought together as if by accident, it may have been by some other ‘force’.

When I rewatched to see what it was that sucked Fairy into Haotian Tower. It looked like the coloured lights belonging to DFQC had come out of the Tower and were pushing/escorting Fairy into it. She was brought in and then pushed along to bump lips with DFQC to awaken him. It looked very deliberate.

In addition to the usual destiny thing, what this show has portrayed is that whatever the past plans were or whatever is believed to have been fated, the future is being re-written by the choices our protagonists make now.

There’s what @pklm3 pointed out: the Destiny Book of CH was changed by Fairy’s interference… that sparked the whole chain of events where she’s joined to DFCQ instead of to CH… where it makes him more human again and gives rise to additional conflict in himself over loving Fairy and killing the people she loves. Fairy’s decision to go against her master’s advice, to save CH, set into motion her own ‘destiny’.

    @grace
Voice dubbing – according to AvenueX on YT, who seems to recognise every active dubber’s voice, and having heard Dylan Wang speaking in interviews, I have to agree with AvenueX that Dylan has to be over-dubbed. His accent will sound ‘wrong’ in a period drama. AvenueX says he has a strong Chongqing accent. He may get away with it in contemporary shows but not in period dramas. I do like the tone of the voice artist though. Sounds so deep and manly LOL. The times he was Fairy, he used a higher pitch that was funny.

I loved how Dylan took those girly steps, held up his skirts, tossed his hair, tilted his head and changed his expression when he was Fairy. He did manage to mimic Esther quite a bit. Even Zhang Linghe (CH actor) who acted like the mortal fool, Xiao Run was both cute and irritating, running around while taking little steps.

Side note: From comments on AOS, you may like to consider suggesting to your husband, that it could be set aside for other shows. 😆

@wapz @Carolina, this is a comment in response to what you wrote in the Eps 1 to 4 First Impressions – it’s here because of possible spoilers.

    @Carolina

I think QF found Orchid interesting from the moment Orchid said she would help him.
QF (in Orchids body): You are the first person in history to threaten me.
Orchid (in QF body): You are also the first person in history to make me cry like a man. I don’t want to stay in your stupid body any longer. It’s just some Haotian Matrix. Today I’ll break it for you. When we get out, let’s figure out a way as soon as possible.
QF (in Orchids body): People from the Heavenly Realm always claim to be honorable. But when things happen, you only care about yourself. You will still help me break the seal?
Orchid (in QF body): I’m just an Orchid flower. If you want a flower to think about these things, then why do we need the Heavenly Soldiers, Heavenly Emperor, and Fairy Lords? Besides my Master said that sealing one’s job is like killing one’s mother. I can’t do these things.
QF (in Orchids body): Little flower spirit, you have some of the Moon Tribe’s traits.

Yes that comment about Fairy having Moon Tribe traits puzzled me for a while. Now that I look back, I guess it means that she values the same things that the Moon Tribe considers honourable.

To an extent, Show is pointing out that there is really no difference between the tribes. The division between the peoples was artificially created because of a broken relationship. Fairy not only displays Moon Tribe like traits, she’s said to look good in Moon Tribe fashion. Repeatedly she states that people are good whether Moon Tribe or Shuiyuntian, and that both uphold the same values concerning the lives of family members.

In effect, the people were not different. They were all immortals or able to become immortals. They may have cultivated different abilities or powers, but for similar reasons of defence.

When Fairy and circumstances can finally drum it into MS’s and CH’s head that community living rather than wars will bring honour and peace to all, I will consider this story a true win.

  30. @GB thanks for the clear summary. I think I’ve enjoyed this story because it’s been well a thought out world that is full of ‘enjoyable detail’-you can miss things on first viewing but easily put the pieces together after second viewing. You aren’t constantly on the hunt for hints and clues and loopholes and plot holes. @grace- I enjoy your lyric translation and am glad you take the time to explain idioms. I especially like the lyrics of the OST 2 -Finding You
After watching episodes 25 and 26
    *Spoilers*
1- I very much enjoyed that kiss
2- I hope that we have TWO secondary couples. The dragon marriage tradition with the scale sounded grotesquely romantic ha! And now that Chengcheng saved danyin and was able to complete his hardship by “saving someone he loved” I hope they’ll have a sweet love story for us to enjoy.
3- I watched these two episodes while I was on the elliptical machine and when it got the the part when she protected them with her green light and QC realized she was the goddess, the music gave me a much needed extra burst of energy. However, I think I’m going to go back and rewatch because with all my huffing and puffing I may have missed some details.

  31. Ahh sorry @GB, I told you the wrong time!

    Eps 25-26

Yes ep 25-26 are so much better! The long waited wedding finally happened. That’s the closest we can get I guess, although they are not standing side by side. Costumes continue to be beautiful. Their wedding outfits!

I like how DF QC said that Orchid looks best in the wedding dress. I think it’s because it is a wedding dress and how he hoped to see her as a bride. The lines are spoken well to layer the feelings:

    1. Her outfit as fairy is when they first encountered
    2. Her outfit as moon tribe is when they recovered his feelings
    3. Her outfit as mortal is when they can pretend to be ordinary people to live without burdens and responsibilities
    4. The wedding outfit is when their feelings are too hard to suppress anymore.

I enjoyed watching the acknowledgement of each other feelings. Although Orchid didn’t say it in words. Her actions speak it all. She turned her back on the home she missed so much without hesitation. DF CQ knew that and seized the chance! Although their kiss was interrupted but it was funny to watch haha!

I also like that DF CQ acknowledged Orchid’s feelings most of the time. As soon as he sensed Orchid was upset he took action. He also listened to Orchid: from treating his brother to co-operating with CH.

What I don’t get is why DF CQ thought his hellfire could come back. Why does he think he can still have hellfire now his feelings have recovered?

  32. @Kate nice to see you popping by. How are you doing?

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Viva, no problem about the show time. I did still check from time to time.

What can I say about Episodes 25 and 26…Random Thoughts and Ad Hoc Selective Recap Episode 25
Yes, I really like the visuals of the wedding. The vibrant red and that particular green went so well together. As you say, QC admired Fairy in the wedding dress most, and he said he felt as if he were married (to her) even when it was all fake. It’s obvious that he wants her to be his real bride one day.

The Dragon’s wedding custom is pretty swoon-worthy but kind of one-sided. Looks like the male dragon has to make himself totally vulnerable to his wife. She can strike him at his most vulnerable spot (that was once covered by his hardest scale). He said : “Without the protection of the dragon scale, it’s like exposing the most fragile part to the person he loves. It means he will listen to her, and be bullied by her, or be cheated by her.” Sounds just up Jie Li’s alley LOL. She will cheat him anyway, the poor, naïve dragon.

I feel that SQ is foolishly giving too much information to Yun Feng. I don’t trust that brat.

I was just saying to @Wapz on the other thread that CH has a soft spot for QC, but QC was a bit touched that Xiao Run shared his friends with him. When Fairy thought he would not understand her feelings of sadness knowing that Wan Qing would die that night, he said he did understand.
QC : “This is my first time feeling like this. Xiao Run told me that his friends are my friends. I feel guilty over a mortal … no…for an enemy.”

From RH, Fairy finds out that CH really loved her, the reason why DFQC is in Yun Meng, and that he had lied to her again. It’s a tough night for Fairy. She was conflicted over the coming death of Wan Qing and how she had lied to her, and now she’s conflicted about hurting QC whom she loves to save CH who loves her.

He thinks she will hate him for carrying out his ‘duties’ but she says she does not hate him, because he is the hope of the Moon Tribe (and has to do what he has to do). The only problem is that she does not know what to do herself, since she does not agree with his mission.

Earlier she had felt stupid when she expected him to have changed when they were at peace in Cangyan and again when he liked the quiet life in Yun Meng. But this time, she accepted that he would always have his mission as Moon Supreme.

    More Random Thoughts 1
There’s a repeated mention of how time became relative for both MS and Fairy. He notes that they’ve known each other for 3 months but it feels like 30,000 years (well maybe they did meet before). Later Fairy when offered a chance to return home, also said that she felt she had been/was thousands or tens of thousands of years away from home. I was waiting for her to say that wherever MS was, was home to her. … but maybe we’ll get that later? In any case, what does this feeling that they’ve spent a long time together mean? That they’ve gone through so much together, they had become at home with each other, and they did not want to be separated even though they’d only been together for 3 months? Fairy probably felt more at home in the Silent Moon Palace than she’d be in Shuiyuntian.

One thing I like about RH’s scenes is that he’s there for exposition and explanation, to give us lots of information. We find out that regardless of whether Fairy poisoned QC or not, the evil spirits in the bead would harm QC. Later we find out that he managed to engineer extracting Chidi’s primordial spirit and had stashed it away somewhere (no prizes for guessing where).

When RH played the flute, Wan Qing could hear him but it did not seem like she could really see him. She followed his voice like she was mesmerised.

The Movement of the Evil Spirits
It was interesting that when the evil spirits came out of the bead, they swirled around Fairy but did not harm her and they did not attack QC at first. The mark on the back of Wan Qing’s neck (presumably the Evil God’s mark) is activated and the evil spirits that kept Chidi ‘alive’ seem to emit from Wan Qing. My guess is that the evil spirits were meant more to distract and delay QC, although they could also harm him.

WQ gets ‘attacked’ by the voices of the dead evil spirits, and then latches on to the idea that she was betrayed. (The last words that Wan Qing spoke to Fairy, were strangely as if she was alternately speaking to Fairy and then to QC. It occurred to me that those same words of accusation could have been spoken by the betrayed Yannv to her lover, Chonghua. She was irate that he had chosen another woman over her.)

At the pavilion swirling with black evil spirits around Fairy, when QC managed to make it through the miasma of evil while at the same time WQ plunged the sword into Xiao Run, there was an explosion of evil spirits out of and then into WQ. In fact I believe that the lot of them from the bead zeroed in on WQ because she had the Evil God’s mark, and she became their receptacle.

Hearing that it was RH who had made the bead, QC goes off in search of RH but WQ proceeds to attack Fairy.

When WQ died and the Hellfire sword that impaled her returned to QC, all the evil spirits exited from her and attacked QC. It was still snowing.

I wonder if the snow has any significance. It was snowing when the wedding guests left and continued snowing during the killings. I didn’t notice when the snow stopped. We did hear that when the evil spirits were being refined, there was fog and snow in Haishi. The sun only broke through when the Soul Transforming Cauldron was destroyed. Perhaps the evil spirits in Wan Qing/bead brought the snow with them.

We find that Fairy had an instinctive reaction to keeping QC safe. She could hold off the evil spirits with green swirly lights that both Danyin and QC recognised was the sign of the Goddess of Xishan/Xilan Holy Seal, respectively.

Fairy’s eyes reflected or shone with green light. We get a blink and you’ll miss it glimpse of 2 fairies standing behind Fairy (likely the spirit of her parents) who are adding their strength to hers. They are probably invisible to the others. Fairy succeeds in dissipating the evil spirits, but one enters her bone orchid bangle (we can guess which one).

So Fairy weapons have white light, QC’s Hellfire is blue light and Goddess’ power is green light. By contrast, Haishi and evil only has black smoke or darkness and no light. Darkness is the absence of light. Quite appropriate!!

More Random Thoughts 2 and Selective Recap Episode 26
When Danyin decides to avenge CH by attacking QC, SQ is finally in the right place, at the right time, to help his boss, LOL.

RH tells Danyin that CH’s hardship experience was to die for someone he cared about, and so his hardship experience did not fail. Danyin says the person he cared about should have been Orchid, but he had died trying to protect Qu Shui, his servant. (So yes, may we have another coupling here?)

I like that CH when he ascends to Shenshui Hall, is a changed CH. In his memory are now the times he spent with DFQC as a friend, and how he had met Fairy and wanted to marry her. He only has thoughts of Fairy (again). It seems his good friend, Qu Shui, was not uppermost in his thoughts.

When MS is weak, the ‘heavenly’ lot from Shuiyuntian come along to attack him. Seems like a bit of overkill that everybody has to turn up in every cloud level to rain down light or whatever stuff on MS. MS can create a shield with Hellfire but cannot drive it forward as a snake-like weapon, like he used to do.

When CH rebels and Fairy leaves with QC in a boat, I was surprised that the ‘heavenly’ lot still rained down light on CH instead of on the boat. I guess they thought they could take care of the weak runaways at any time. Either that or CH drew all the attack upon himself. I thought it was kind of funny that after several 10s of thousands of years, CH was rebelling/finally acting up like a teenager.

CH : “I used to respect you as my brother. For tens of thousands of years, I’ve obeyed the rules of heaven, following your lead. But after experiencing the hardships in the mortal world, I have come to understand a lot. Only now I realise that in your eyes, Mother God’s fervent love for her son is cowardice. CH’s longing for the person he loves is a mistake. All the true feelings in the world are foolish and unbearable in your eyes. If this absurdity is the rule of heaven, so what if I rebel against it?”

So CH gets a bit of a growth arc and it will be interesting, now that he’s labeled a traitor too, how his trajectory with regards to befriending QC in Cangyan will play out. This is really a refreshing development in cdrama! Maybe next it will be Danyin who will join the rebels’ camp?

More Random Thoughts 3 and Selective Recap Episode 26
Give and take with this couple: It’s kind of sweet that last time MS thanked Fairy by wanting to mark her face with his blood (he transformed it to cinnabar), and now she uses her blood to revive him.

I can’t help laughing no matter how many times I watch the kiss scene (a very nice one) and then Jie Li and SQ come. SQ remains clueless about what he’s witnessing, while Fairy wants to jump into the river.

Now that Fairy has properly chosen QC instead of CH, he’s like a docile lamb/pup with her. When she wanted to go back to her quarters, he quickly got up to see her out like a puppy. I thought that was so sweet. The change in the OST to the gentle piano instrumental when he took her hand was also so evocative.

I like that QC spoke up for Fairy when YF said she was malicious for tying QC up with the Heart Curse. QC clarifies that the Heart Curse was an accident. “It has nothing to do with Orchid. On the contrary, if it were not for her, I’m afraid I’d still be locked in Haotian Tower.” (Actually I believe the Heart Curse had to do with Fairy being the Goddess, since it was tied to the Xilan Holy Seal, but nevermind.)

Fairy is sad that she had prevented QC from fulfilling the great hope of his people and that he’d gotten hurt to save her. (Well actually there was total give and take in this area).

MS seems to feel a change in Fairy’s mood, although he’s got the Jade Ring on, or he hears the way Jie Li calls Fairy’s name. He goes out to sit with her.
MS : “Jie Li says you want to be alone. I can keep you company.”
Fairy : “Wooden Head, you shouldn’t have saved me.”
MS : “I don’t need you to tell me what to do.”
Fairy : “I want the First God of War to successfully ascend through the hardship experience. I can’t bear to see the soldiers forever sealed in the Xuanxu Realm, who can’t see their loved ones. But these two things have failed because of me. I also caused you to get hurt.”
MS: “It was my decision to kill Xie Wan Qing. You don’t need to feel guilty about it. And I will never regret saving you at that time.” (Swoony stuff!)

“There are other ways to unseal the Moon Tribe soldiers. But in all three realms I cannot find another timid, crybaby Orchid, who likes to meddle in things, who causes a lot of trouble, but who cares for me and takes care of me, makes me willing to give rebirth to the Love Tree for her, makes me want to cry with her, and laugh with her.” (Practically a love confession)

He is just about to tell her that she’s the Xishan Goddess when of course the romantic moment is interrupted by none other than Chang Heng. LOL.

MS’s bad mood brings on the red, dark clouds and lots of lightning LOL. He has to be careful that he does not kiss Fairy or they might body swap again!

When the boys get belligerent, Fairy tells them to put their swords away. One look from her gets QC to obey.

CH tells them about the lost spirits/fragmented spirits and wants to work with MS to appease them. Fairy acts like a typical wife when she replies for MS that of course he agrees to cooperate. She then wisely sweetens her presumption by saying that MS is so kind he’d not want his Moon Tribe spirits to suffer. (Not dumb, this Fairy, no matter how they made her out to be in the beginning).

LOL, MS wants to agree but also project the image that he’s in charge and that Fairy is his ‘person’. He grabs hold of Fairy with one hand and demands the music score of CH with the other, but he had forgotten that Fairy already had the music score LOL the look she gives him when she hands him the score. (Love it.)

Fairy notes that the two guys are on the same page with regards to their friendship in the mortal world, but suggests that their melodies won’t harmonise because they don’t really understand each other.

CH says it’s a temporary alliance, and there’s no need to understand each other, but Fairy disagrees. She points out that the Moon Tribe are like the Fairies and mentions the good things MS wants to do for his people. MS does not want her to defend the Moon Tribe to CH, so she says : ” If Fairies and Moon Tribe can put aside their prejudices and turn them into peace, wouldn’t your wish be fulfilled?”

CH still has to put his foot in his mouth, and rile up MS, and the boys want to fight, but Fairy puts her foot down and scolds like a great mamma. LOL. Love that the men are no match for her. MS storms off, and Fairy seems to follow after him, leaving CH.

So we have this new dynamics between the three. They are like squabbling, childish siblings, who don’t quite trust each other and need Mum to keep them in check. I hope we get more of this threesome who may start as whiny kids, but who grow up quickly, to defend what’s right.

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Episodes 27 and 28 have dropped. They continue the good pace with couple moments as well as with developments for all the main protagonists. Once again we get an interesting nugget of information which adds an unexpected twist. I’m not sure how that twist will affect matters, but it probably will.

So far this is one of the few very well written dramas in the Xian Xia romance genre that I know of. I agree with other reviews that say this is a simple story, coherently told. The serious moments, the funny and the relaxed moments are executed expertly, for maximum effect. The background OSTs are so appropriate to each scene and augment them. The production value is relatively high and everything continues to look good and sound good.

8 more episodes and I trust that we’ll get more good stuff until the end.

  39. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I can’t believe that Episode 28 has surpassed Episode 27. I applaud the writer. The best dialogues I’ve heard in a very long time. It was just so good.

  40. Ooooh. I’m sorely tempted to fast-forwarded to Ep 28 now and listen to the dialogues.

    I. Must. Resist.

I fast-forwarded through so many scenes just to get to episode 18 that I now need to stop and rewind to fully understand what’s going on. I don’t know how and when the new girl (the one dressed in hobo rags) entered the show. lol.

  41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Oh dear @pkml3, you make me laugh out loud and long. Please watch slowly. The show is so good. It has to be slowly appreciated, like fine wine.

I watch it once quickly and then watch it again. So it becomes a slow watch. The new twists are surprising and yet, so right. This is a show done really right in terms of turning the stereotypes of relationships on their head. The changes in the characters are astounding… such organic, consistent growth that feels so right. From their growing understanding and sense of responsibility, from their love and sincerity come the good dialogues. I am so impressed by this Writer.

    Watch slowly and enjoy.

  42. Is it a happy ending? Neither of them will die and spend gazillion years looking for each other, right?

That’s partly the reason I’m holding back. I want the HEA locked in before I fall in love with this Cdrama.

  43. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@pkml3 we are still coming to some angsty parts, therefore the ending is not clear. However I believe it will be a happy ending. One of our bitches finished the show unsubbed already… who was it? Sorry I can’t remember.

  44. @GB is the show available unsubbed? I doubt since there’s a whole week to go for it to complete. They must’ve read the novel.

@pm3 watch it at its pace. You’ll miss out a few details that will play later on.

Coming back to what you said @GB, this is indeed a good xanxia in years. And many refer to it as simple but it actually isn’t. The setup is just familiar. Heavens, Devils, sort of tsundere male lead and sort of candy (i add sort of because both of them aren’t, they are 2022 refined version of these two character traits). It uses familiar tropes of body switch and heart curse (thats actually the first time I’ve heard of it but it maybe present in other xanxia’s) and another big evil. So yeah the setup may be familiar but the show itself is so detailed and its world building richly crafted. Some twists are really unpredictable and had I seen no spoilers at all, I probably would’ve found many things unpredictable. I haven’t seen as many xanxias but the characters amd pace in this one really stands out.

  45. @GB me! I finished reading the novel. 32 chapters only and I started half way, around chapter 12. Quite an easy read. The love between DF QC and novel was written well.

    *spoilers of the novel*

It’s a happy ending but the novel plots are very different! I would treat it as 2 separate stories. DF QC motive is different in the novel. He mostly only cares for himself. Very unlike the DF QC in the drama. He has a darker character and is called monster/evil supreme. He really wanted to use Orchid to fulfil his own goal- to revive chi di woman so he can fight her again to wash away the shame that he was previously defeated. Even Orchid called him Big Monster Head (direct translation). She knows he was trying to use her but still loves him. The war of God is a different person is married to San Seung. Only a minor character. No love triangle with Orchid.

The love arc in the novel is
1.the struggle of Orchid not to love but still does anyway towards a person who tries to use her. DF QC always tries to save her, in swoon way.
2.the redemption/regret of DF QC towards his bad treatment to Orchid.

I can only guess the drama will have a HE because its a summer holiday drama.

  46. @GB I just finished watching episode 28 and I agree – episode 28 is phenomenal. I’m impressed by the write too on how organic the relationship growth is. I can’t decide which of the two leads I like more now. I was irritated a bit by the aury-fairy character in the beginning but she showed so much backbone in this episode.

    **Spoilers**

My favorite scenes of the episode:

    1) Dongfang’s reasons why he loves Orchid (totally swoonworthy💕) – in his speech to his subjects when they try to stop her at the gate

    2) Orchid’s proposal to Dongfang even before he gets to it – it was so heartfelt I almost had tears in my eyes – how she had made only a grass band yet her wedding gift seemed more precious than all Fongfang’s precious gifts and he knew it

    3) Orchid’s justification of why she needs to earn her place of respect as the Moon Teibe’s Queen, and her saying how from now on, there needs to be equal decision-making in a married relationship.

This is the episode when Esther Wu’s acting really stood out for me, along with her dialogues. I’ve always thought Dylan Wang was acting better in his character but maybe because his was always the stronger charactwr so far.

I need to go rewatch this episode now. I am overjoyed that Viki is dropping 2 episodes per day now, and no long wait needed for the remaining 8 episodes.

After this episode, I believe we will have a happy ending because Orchid promised she will always be with him. All these hardships will be in vain if the drama gods decide to kill one of them in the end. They didn’t really get to put the love lock on the bridge though, I think, before Dongfang fainted.

And not to forget we have two genuine kisses now (not related to the soul transfer). I loved the first one initiated by , and the second one initiated by Orchid. I really like how the give-and-take between the two is now on equal footing and they both adjust and change for the other.

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@wapz, I must have been mistaken then. So it’s still airing and there are no ending raw episodes out? I agree that the characters have a modern feel to them. There’s something about their attitudes that sounds very current. They seem more relatable too, than merely one-note characters.

Yes, this Show is very rich in its world building. It’s also amazingly clear what is going on, and the motives of every character. There is no unnecessary teasing of the Viewers. Clues and revelations come at the right time. Perhaps in this sense, it makes it seem simpler than those other convoluted stories with sudden changes that make no sense.

Slowly, we find, that more characters have a backstory. Again these do not excuse their current flaws, but explain a bit more the reasons for their choices. So more characters than expected have more than one layer. In the end, the one-note character (and possibly ‘villain’ of sorts) is dear brother Yun Zhong.

It struck me that the attitudes of sticking to ancestral rules/rules of heaven continue as a sore point in both Moon Tribe and Shuiyuntian. The younger generation at both are rebelling. A comment, perhaps on re-looking at the rules of old to see if they are still relevant.

  48. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes, @Phoenix, I was blown away by Episode 28. Never expected so much richness.

The few days in Yun Meng, made it clear to our couple that the lying, and subterfuge wouldn’t work with each other, and also made clear what they really wanted.

-In the area of belonging to another, they knew whom they wished to spend their lives with.
-In the area of bringing about peace, they had the same ultimate goals but contradictory ways of getting there. They each respected and accepted this.

I was actually surprised that despite this, both of them wished to pursue a permanent relationship. I expected that Fairy would choose to separate herself from the one who would destroy her friends, but she stood with MS all through.

I loved how Fairy took the initiative over and over to protect MS whether he was aware of it or not, to confront him properly and state her situation, to defend him when she could and to decide to stick with him through thick and thin. It felt so fresh and modern, that the frail, little woman actually was made of steel. Her rational explanation about why she should go to Fuju Cave was so well made, that MS could not fault her. Even how she got MS and CH to work together to help those shattered souls, was unexpectedly clever. However, I feel that just standing by quietly to let MS see the longing of the Moon Tribe people for their lost family members, was the wisest move. She knew better than to argue too long.

MS’s a great boyfriend, because although he does not want his girl to suffer, he will listen to her point of view, and he painfully chooses to respect her decisions.

I laughed so loudly when he remarked it was the 3rd time she was poisoning his wine. What a great line in the middle of so much tension. I loved the looks on their faces as they acknowledged that he knew, that she knew, that he knew she was giving him doctored wine.

The couple is so strong, because of their amazing trust in each other. They know that they could have both hurt the other very badly, even causing death, but they choose to trust. My heart melted when he took the wine and accepted that she should go off to the cave on her own. Trusting, and letting go, is such a mature thing in relationships.

This brings to mind the time they were in the boat and Fairy chose to leave with MS rather than return home with CH. She held on tightly to MS’s hand while she spoke to CH. She kept on assuring him by her touch, that she would not abandon him.

His kiss at the end of that trip, acknowledged all that she’d given up for him, and offered her all that he wanted to give to her.

I also love the same scenes you chose, @Phoenix. I think I loved every long speech scene, all the explanations and the expressions that accompanied them.

I love what you say about the grass band compared to all the treasures of his kingdom. So true. He was so touched that she was proposing to him, that he was speechless. Dylan did that part very well, wordlessly. Fairy was very brave and straightforward about her desire and decision, not fearing that her little handmade gift would be scorned.

I expect still some angst in their relationship. From spoilers, I gather that there will still be a separation. I’m guessing that although they pledge themselves to each other, something of higher purpose and urgency will require them to not be able to keep their promises for a while. Since these characters live for a 100,000 years, it may be a long and painful separation, but with only 8 episodes, we should be able to come around to a happy ending.

I look forward to Fairy’s playing her ultimate role as the Goddess of Xishan, probably healing and bringing back to life the ‘dead’ and then being Fairy again, with MS. Yes, I hope they get a chance to add their love locks at a future Mountain Moon Festival. This felt very ‘Korean’ LOL. I feel it may have been adopted from kdrama romances, but I’m not sure.

The kisses are sweet, because they are between equals now, and express what they should be expressing. I wish ‘lampposts’ will stop interrupting their romantic moments!!! LOL.

  49. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The OSTs (7 songs this time) is out. This is also unusual for a cdrama… so many original OST tracks for 1 show and they are all rather nice to listen to, with a modern beat.

The one that I was waiting for was number 6. I believe they played it when Fairy and MS jumped into the water to hide from CH.

There is also an instrumental or two that I like, but it’s not on this list.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8-xa1U5Hd4

00:00 Yuqing (Theme & Ending Song) – Zhou Shen
05:16 Jue Love (Opening Song) – Zhan Wenting
08:23 Looking for you (warm theme song) – Liu Yuning
12:49 Canglanqi (Interlude) – Li Changchao
16:21 Amnesia (Interlude) – Yu Shuxin
19:49 The Other Shore (Interlude) – Jing Hao, Jing Dier
22:45 Recitation (Interlude) – Double Sheng

  50. @GB I liked that scene too in the boat where Fairy defended Dongfang and saved him, how she held on tight to him to reassure him and later how Dongfang held on tight to her fingers to reassure her of his love in their kiss scene.
The equal pressure that both of them put in as their fingers intertwined in both the scenes stood out for me.

I found the wine drugging scene funny yet touching, how he always knows what she is up to but allows her anyways because he knows her intentions are true. Dongfang was used to doing things his way, but the relationship with Orchid has taught him there can be another way of doing things, and it is okay to allow that, because he respects Orchid and her thoughts and opinions now. This is very different from how he was in the first 15 or so episodes when he ordered her around.

I found it so funny when he let Orchid go and speak to CH, he kept trying to see and understand what was happening and held himself back even when he was clearly jealous.

There’s really something very modern about the equality of their relationship which was unexpected for me, especially given how powerful and ruthless the Demon Lord/Moon Supreme is. It started off as such an unequal power equation between the two, but is a testimony to how strong and well-suited both of them are that it is a perfectly balanced relationship now, with understanding, communication, compromise, commitment, and most importantly total trust (as you said). I understand now why the writer of the Web novel, Cang Yue, is so famous for her romantic novels. This is one of the best developed enemies to lovers relationships I have read/watched.

Thank you for the OSTs, @GB, I’ll go listen to them now😍

  51. @GB @ Phoenix I too like the wine drugging scene. I felt that the design of DF CQ character is consistent. Being the clever and powerful Moon Supreme, he hasn’t suddenly gone stupid and didn’t pick up the poison.

I really like the way our leads who fought hard and find ways to stay together. For DF QC, he hasn’t yield to the pressure of his family and his people. He stood up for Orchid and won’t let her take the misguided blame. He is also fair, and self-punished himself for his mistake to show his commitment to the people has not changed because of his love to a fairy. He took actions. All this should go to the DF QC appreciation thread!

For Orchid, like you all said. She looks fragile on the outside, but strong and brave inside. Resilient and protects DF QC in her way. There is no self-pity or complain about the bad press and misunderstanding. She acknowledged the responsibilities and pressure that would come along as the wife of MS. She is practical and worked hard to earn her respect from his people.

Also I thought Dylan Wang and Esther Yu acting is better than I expect. They are quite young, but I thought their facial expressions look genuine. Especially the growth of Esther throughout the drama. In the first couple of episodes it was harder to watch. In the later episodes, she really has become Orchid to me. Dylan Wang’s expressions in the proposal is very well acted in my view. I can read the narratives of DF QC’s subtle happiness. There was never a big smile from DF QC, but normally the emotions come from the eyes. The wine drugging scene – DF QC and Orchid has that mutual understanding of poisoning is very good to watch. DF QC wasn’t dramatic about it, but he knows and plays along. That subtle “light bulb” moment that Orchid has poisoned him was well acted.

Another actor I thought acting well was Rong Hao. His facial expressions are always a little sad which suits his character. A misguided person. However I am glad that the drama didn’t confuse us that fighting for love using whatever methods is romantic.

  52. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Viva, yes to all you say of the episodes up to 28. The characters of Fairy and MS are amazingly well written, layered and well acted. I didn’t expect much Dylan either since I only watched him in Evernight2. He’s surpassing himself in this show.

Xu Hai Qiao (Rong Hao) and even Zhang Ling He (Chang Heng) are definitely good. The show continues to be so watchable because even the villains and side characters are quite well rounded. Now that Zhang Ling He as CH is back in Shuiyuntian, his acting is even better than before he went to Yun Meng. I liked his character in the last few episodes.

On to the tougher stuff below.

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Episodes 29 and 30.
Show is still doing a phenomenal job of incorporating many parts and having everything make sense.

The angst has hit, as expected, and boy is it a whopper. In all areas, at the time of greatest weakness, the evil strikes. The temptation by evil to do evil raises the question of whether it’s really something existing in everyone in the deepest, most secret place. (I personally say no, but show raises the question). It’s the voice of the King of Lies, and it sounds very persuasive.

    *SPOILERS*

Despite the rise of evil, we still managed to get a few good couple moments, and not only between MS and Fairy.

I’m glad to see Xuan Wu again but he never says enough to tell Fairy what it means to be the Goddess of Xishan. She has to suffer loss first, before things become clear.

The choice given to MS reminds me of the choice Darth Vader made (to save a life) when he was still Anakin. When faced with a painful dilemma, avoid making a choice, but it means choosing evil.

Personally I like a story to have some conflict, and I must say that Show has been generous in giving us the sweet stuff for a long time, hence it’s time for a real hardship experience now in this drama
I expect the separation and contrary things to happen that appears to break big promises, before a happy resolution. The wherewithal to bring out the angst has been nicely placed so that what happens is consistent. The only inconsistent thing is what was done with regards to Fairy, which makes me suspect that it’s RH or Evil God at the helm now.

The fun will be how everything gets solved within 5 episodes and some 10,000 years?

  54. Just popping in to say I have watched up to 27 and can’t wait to watch 28!!!! :O :O :O

I will want to translate some more OSTs as the words are ringing in my head and before the last few episodes come out next week. I agree with @GB on how this has more songs than usual cdramas. There’s 8 tracks now as per what’s updated here:

  58. 🙂 Yes. Two posts went to spam. But I found and approved them.

  59. @GB I’m also quote curious to know how they will wrap up everything in only 6 episodes. At least there may not be any filler, but I’m not hoping it’s not rushed.

  60. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@grace, Thanks for all the links and the lyrics.

The Esther and Dylan song is a new one… a modern one for after the drama? Or we will hear it later?

The one I’m referring to is found in Episode 8 around timestamp 25:00 with a great heart-tugging instrumental and then changes to the song at 26:57 just before MS kisses Fairy to give her air to breathe. The song is number 6 on the YT link list I attached above. But I like that instrumental piece too.

  61. @Grace Thank you for the links. I didn’t know about that Esther-Dylan duet. I’ve always noticed actors in C-dramas and k-dramas are expected to be good singers and dancers too, along wuth good actors. It must be difficult for them as someone who is good at acting may not necessarily have a singing voice. Dylan sounded okay here though.

So much keeps happening in the episodes now that I’m too engrossed i the story to pay attention to the OST, but I do watch the videos separately on YT.

    **Spoilers**

I liked how in ep.29 Dongfang remained connected physically to Orchid so that he could feel her pain (not taking the drug). He didn’t even tell Orchid that.

In true last episodes’ style, the stakes are mounting and there is no way to end the war and the impossible situation without sacrifices by them both.Dongfang now is clearly acting to push Orchid away so she is willing to move away from Moon capital and not get killed. He must be thinking that defeat is imminent as he neither has the troops nor the hellfire. He still does not think once of sacrificing her. I do think Orchid will be the one to sacrifice herself and stop the war somehow, and then get reincarnated🤞 Quite a lot of angst and trials and tribulations still to come, but hopefully our pair will have a happy ending.

@Grace Esthet’s acting is growing on me too, as well as Orchid’s character. She has grown to be a strong character in spite of starting out as a whiny one.

  62. I’m playing catch-up, currently in Episode 21. I wish from the beginning I’d counted the number of times Shang Que has said to Dongfang Qingcang, “Calm down!”

  63. @Welmaris Welcome to this drama biewing group😁 Hope you are enjoying wayching this drama (the Devil is eye candy plus grows to be caring and patient, so I’m sure it will be time well spent😝)

You will see how much he has grown when in similar situations in eps.27-30, he foes mot react or get angry/jealous at Orchid running away etc. Shows how much he trusts her love now.

We still have to wait 3 days for the remaining 6 episodes. I read the web novel ending, so sm a bit reassured. At least I wouldn’t have to go through a situation like Red Sleeve again😑

  64. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Aah! @Phoenix, so you read the ending. OK @pkml3, it’s 90% likely to be a happy ending after the angsty parts!!!

Hi @Welmaris, wow! You’re galloping through the episodes. Probably you get a better idea of events sweeping across 3-4 months in Fairy time from a continuous watch. It’s confusing that months go on in Yun Meng but it’s all within a day in all the Immortal Realm.

    *SPOILERS* for Episodes 29-30

@Phoenix, you may be right about MS’s wanting to push Fairy to go away and be safe somewhere else, so this is just my conjecture but I fancy the MS we see who is pushing Fairy away is a different MS. IE he could be impersonated by our dear RH (who through his minion Die Yi got Li Yuan to get him out of prison) or he could be manipulated.

Reason why it could be the latter:
-the evil spirit has entered from the Bone Orchid bangle into MS and remains in residence in MS’s mind (he is possessed from time to time)

Reason why it could be the former:
-the real MS took pains to bring CH away from Arbiter Hall so that their fight would not destroy her beloved home.

That MS should send soldiers to mess up Fairy’s flowers sounds too petty and out of character.

I have to go back and check on when it was that the Phoenix Crown was spoken of, but even if it happened before the possession, it’s possible that a possessed MS would have told Xun Feng about it.

  65. **Spoilers**

@GB you have a point. It could be the evil spirit possessing him, but I saw a trailer of ep.30-31 where Orchid asks him why he is trying to save her so she can marry someone else which makes me think it’s noble idiocy on his part, in true doomed hero style!

Another reason could be his trying to make Orchid fall out of love and put hatred for him in her heart so he can relove the Bone Orchid and release Chidi woman’s spirit to unfreeze the Moon warriors. I remember he had said earlier that as long as Orchid loves him, removing the Bobe Orchid (made of his blood) would kill her.

I still can think of Orchis sacrificing herself to end the war. It aligns with the conversation the spirit had eith Orchid on how marrying DF was not her destiny before saving the world and she needs to be back when she is ready and has seen more. I’m still hoping for a happy ending just because they are immortals.

One thing bothering me – where has her master or Arbiter of human fates disappeared to? By Orchid’s accoubts, she was instrumental in saving Orchid and caring for her. I’m sure she knows about Orchid’s destiny.

  66. Apologies for all the typos, still am typing from my small mobile and my mobile keeps tuping random stuff due to autocorrect settings🙄

  67. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Phoenix, no problem about the typos, you are understandable LOL.

    *SPOILERS*

Did you see the spoilers in the music videos, etc? If you did then you’d know that you’re right. I guess they have to ‘prove’ their grand love by self-sacrifice. There may also be an instance where he sacrifices for her. The give-and-take couple, you know *wink*.

Yes, he could be doing the noble idiot thing. I noticed, though, that he did not appear much in Episode 30. I wondered if that was to hide the fact that it was not him.

Yes, MS did say that because she had become devoted to him, the Bone Orchid could not be forcibly removed. However when she kept it on, the evil spirit part with Chidi Woman’s spirit was consuming her spirit energy, to give Chidi rebirth.

Either way, Orchid was likely to die. But MS was still hanging on and not removing the Bone Orchid when it should have solved their problem of saving the people and being able to fight on better terms.

The Master Arbiter is one mysterious woman. She is supposed to have gone to Yun Meng but that was over 500-1000 years earlier so I can’t imagine what she’s doing there except getting drunk. She’s been most irresponsible (or Show is keeping her under wraps until Fairy is to ascend as Goddess or something). It’s true that she should know Fairy’s destiny. She had the Tianjin Mirror all along after all.

  68. @GB LOL “getting drunk”” 😛 I saw trailers in Chinese of episodes 31-32 as well as a final trainer for last few episodes.

**Unverified Spoilers ahead for unreleased episodes (read at own discretion 😉 ) **

From what I could gather from the Chinese video visuals:

    – Fairy stabs herself with some shard (didn’t look like a sword), while Dongfang screams and comes running towards her
    – Dongfang holds her in his arms as she dies, crying, with the background voiceover of fairy saying that she wishes him love, friends and happiness whether she is there or not (flashback to the lantern festival)
    – All this would have made me instantly dump the drama mid-way (LOL) but it seems hopeful as the next scene shows Orchid in a different setting and hairstyle and Dongfang coming to her and they hug each other (maybe after rebirth, one can only hope)
    – And before I forget, CH marries Fairy Danyin (or it may be a dream sequence just to tease us)
    – A visual of the Arbiter in white dress thrown somewhere in between too
    – No mention of the other dragon/spy peddler couple (by the way, that spy seems to be Danyin’s hybrid sister – I mean they are half-Fairy half-Moon tribe, not sure if she will die to compensate for her sins).

I rewatched those videos just to gather clues LOL

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Phoenix, I kind of gathered some of that already. Cdramas never bother to stop spoilers from going out. In one of them, there was another nice kiss, which I don’t believe we had before, so I’m holding out hope for reconciliation and HEA.

  70. @GB, I watched the spoiler of ep.29 and this must go into bf appreciation thread also. He is not one to run away from suffering, especially hers. If only it is like the saying, a shared burden is a burden halved. But each seems to have to carry their own burden.

Orchid has clearly matured, especially seen in the scene when she bid goodbye to Changheng at the River of Memory loss and returned him the spirit stone. She is now able to recognize and differentiate her feelings towards these two guys. She friend-zoned him there which was a good move and closure to their connection. It seems like she will be fated to marry Changheng again and I’m not sure if that part has come up yet.

@Welmaris, Welcome to the party, you’ll enjoy this!

@Phoenix, I think Cdramas tend to have complete and happy endings. I haven’t watched one that is as open ending as kdramas.
I’m also curious about Orchid’s master!! How on earth does she not care or know all the drama that is happening in the heavens??

  71. I’m sure when we finally finish the drama we will know how this song lyrics fit in. Not my favourite tune but I guess it fits the really dramatic part of the show with the Beijing Opera voiced verse.

  72. @Grace, wow thank you for sharing those lyrics, It must be Dongfang’s thoughts about Fairy.

I am 90% sure they will have a happy ending, though I’ve been burnt before by Miss the Dragon (Dylan’s earlier costume drama this year) where the FL sacrificed herself and it was a sad ending. Many of the court type dramas have sad endings too. Hopefully the drama adaptation will stay true to the novel.

  73. Sharing this here Ladies. They’re good. 😄

LOL @agdr03!! That’s what Dylan meant when he called a ‘dramatic’ so much noise! LOL.

    He’s good-natured about it all.

  75. Yes @GB. It almost hurt my ears. 😂

Agree! Dylan is just cool about it. 😁

  76. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@grace, thanks for more lyrics. They sort of tell part of the story and yet leave something hidden. So tantalising!

Yup, more to add to the DFQC appreciation post…

I liked the dialogue between Fairy and CH. Once again a modern feel to it when she said she didn’t believe in following destiny or fate. She was not convinced. Being Orchid was different from being the Goddess Xi Yun.

Unfortunately, everyone else will want to follow through with destiny, because sacrificing 1 to save many sounds like a good deal.

It’s an interesting parallel that Chidi sacrificed herself for the Heavenly clan (and they happily let her and didn’t even have a memorial for her) and the same Chidi’s spirit is feeding on Fairy’s spirit. And now Fairy has to take on Goddess duties and sacrifice herself like Chidi.

Yes, Orchid has become much more mature, thank heavens. I think marrying CH will be up next.

I’m glad to know that happy endings are more the norm.

@Phoenix I didn’t watch the end of Miss the Dragon. I found it too slow despite FFDing, and dropped it.

  77. Hey @Grace @GB @Pheonix the writer has written a few novels from that universe. The Master has her own story (司命, or Si Ming). I read that that her story will get a drama. Netizens are hoping for the actress who plays Master will be casted.

Will they link this drama with Si Ming? I will wait and see if Master will appear again in the drama.

    ep 29-30

I am also with @Phoenix thinking DF CQ is merely trying to save Orchid so she doesn’t love him and no longer attach to Bone Orchid. Then he can remove the bone orchid and release Chi Di Woman spirit. He loves Orchid still, reasons:

    1. He can’t use Hellfire because he loves Orchid. Otherwise, he won’t need to worry so much about being outnumbered.

    2. He didn’t kill Orchid’s tribe. Rong Hau did. So, he is lying when he said killing one extra one doesn’t mean much.

    3. He wanted to tell Orchid she is Xi Shan Goddess earlier but was interrupted by CH.

To me he is just lying and simply saying everything that could drive her away. I don’t think Orchid will believe him though. They are beyond that. So that plan won’t work and Orchid probably needs to die and her death should link to to releasing those 10000 sealed soldiers so they can go back home to meet their families.

The mirror shows Orchid will walk in a wedding ceremony with CH. That will surely happen so she will somewhat live again. I doubt the former War of God Chidi woman wants to live like this. Morally it doesn’t make sense (and probably won’t pass the approval to be aired).

The turtle (is that a turtle?) God said Orchid haven’t “lost what you are supposed to lose” so that should be either her own life, or DF CQ. So if she lives, then DF CQ will be lost and leave Orchid somehow (likely to be some sort of noble sacrifice) and that should be the angst for us to cry over the next couple of episodes.

Jeili should be Danyin sister. Will she die? If Orchid and DF CQ live, some other beloved side character may die. In general, it is unlikely that everyone lives…

I didn’t watch the music video and will let the plot surprises me. It’s nice to have a good show to looking forward to! I am very happy with the last two episodes. No more fillers. I didn’t have the urge to fast forward and I continue to like their costumes. I noticed MS’s head piece looks like a moon, which is well suited. If I am a little girl I would be dying to own Orchid many fairy and moon tribe outfits.

  78. Haha @agdr03 – that canvas! Clearly the set coordinator was getting drunk somewhere on job 😛 Thank you for sharing this, girlfriend, even though you haven’t started watching this drama yet (off topic but I’ve watched so many videos of ‘Love like the Galaxy’ now that I’m hooked and planning to pick that up after this is over).
I DO NOT like Esther’s voice though, is too shrill. Wonder how Dylan sat that close to her and didn’t get a splitting headache. Something about her pitch of shrieking is irritating (thank the drama gods that she is not doing that in the drama)

@Viva I would be dying to own those flowy fairy outfits too if I was a little girl 😛

Nice analysis of Dongfang’s reasons for pushing fairy away in ep.30. I would agree with you there.

Thank you for the info on the master’s story – didn’t know Cang Yue wrote another novel with the same characters. So the master must be living her story in that novel (while she is away during this novel’s timelines) – makes sense.

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Viva, your plot sounds entirely plausible and even familiar. I have the feeling that I’ve seen it before. Yes, he wants her to stop loving him so that he can remove the Bone Orchid, but it’s not going to happen, and even if it ever were to happen, won’t be so soon. So that’s what he meant when he said he would sacrifice Fairy. Making her suffer emotionally was also a torture and so a sacrifice on her part.

The only thing about his not telling her that she’s the Xishan Goddess is that he could have found another time to tell her after CH’s interruption.

I’m trying to recall… what will be the impact of her knowing it? Right now it makes no impression on her. She hardly cares. But if she’d known earlier, what would have changed? Would she have been able to protect herself or others more? Would she have been able to purify all those shattered spirits without the healing music? The only clue from what God Xuanwu says below, is that knowing that she was the Goddess, she might have not decided to be MS’s wife?

In the conversation with God Xuanwu:
God X : “You are the goddess of Xishan. Your love is selfless and inclusive. You are destined to take on your responsibility. You are destined to cease hatred and protect the people.”

Fairy Orchid : “Why. I don’t understand. ‘Cease hatred and protect the people’, what does that have to do with being DFQC’s wife? Why can’t I love someone and love the people at the same time? Why must I be forced to make a choice? I’m not convinced.”

God X : “Old friend. You came too early. You haven’t seen what you are supposed to see. You haven’t lost what you are supposed to lose. Leave. We will meet again.”

It sounds like she is not meant to tied down yet, at least until she gets the peace process started to end hate.

  80. @Viva, thanks for the info on the novel and master’s story. So interesting how they can extend new stories from all these side characters. I first knew of a 司命 SiMing character in Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, and with LBFD being my 2nd Xianxia drama to watch, it gets interesting to compare how different stories weave these characters like how Greek gods stories vary in different versions.

I always wonder how people walk around with such flow-y clothes, but it seems so do-able. Might consider it party, or prom or grand dinner gala outfit one day.
I recently read a news article about this lady who set up an online store called Hanfu Story and discovered her store. Feels so possible to own one!

    @agdr03, @GB, @Phoenix,
Lol I agree on Esther’s voice really be high-pitched. They fall into bickering really easily. The main goal of this live stream for both of them was not to argue! 😛
    Some highlights:
Scenes that left the deepest impression for
Esther: ep32 preview of Esther crying and asking MS not to leave (They said they cried a lot a lot)
Dylan: ep28 when he had to face punishment before meeting Orchid on the bridge and when he is in pain alone. He was given a round of applause after it was filmed.

Watching the ep32 preview, I’m going to have to brace myself for a week of lots of crying because of FD and Love like the Galaxy. Esther’s crying and the scene is gonna break my heart.

  81. Have any of you watched The Blue Whisper ? It’s written by the same novelist that wrote this show and the FL lead is Dilraba
    **Spoilers up to episode 30**
I’m wondering how RH changed the narrative to the moon tribe murdering the x clan after he was the one who killed them all in his search for the goddess. It probably wasn’t too difficult since this show doesn’t seem to be made of fact checkers and recorders.

I,too, got the feeling jielie is the half sister to danyin. Now I need to go back and watch their interaction in the mortal world when danyin was cricket. Did the mom die in childbirth or was this some type of The Parent Trap situation where one parent takes a kid and half a necklace and the other parent takes the other? I was watching so fast I think I missed the details.

I liked the poison dialogue and the one when she was taking his measurements and wanted to move the wedding up instead of leaving him. It’s all very swoony and somehow I don’t find it cheesy. What I found most interesting though was the dialogue with Chengheng. She was clear, resolute, and mature. How she explained her disconnect and feeling more sadness for the moon tribe families. I’m hoping she finds someone from the X clan to connect with although it looked like they were all massacred. What is that thing she talks to? I want to call it the sorting hat but I know that’s Harry Potter.

As far as if QC is possessed by and evil spirit or if it’s him playing the noble idiot, I’m not sure. It’s almost like there was a deleted scene. Orchid went with Ch, QC told shanque he knew where she was, QC had the convo with his brother, and then she was imprisoned. Was their intention for us to think QC believed she would be swayed by CH or more resolute in her decision after talking with CH and decided to change tactics?

    The bone bracelet
Do they think the bracelet is acting like that because she’s now deeply in love with QC or are they aware something has been added to it they just don’t know Jielie is the culprit? Again, I think I watched too quickly and missed some details.

I haven’t watched any of the music videos or previews so I’m clueless as to where this is headed but I’m 98% sure we will get a happy ending. I’m more curious about who will get a redemption arc and how their punishment will be doled out—or if they end up sacrificing themselves. RH, the brother, CH, Ch brother the king, the father of danyin, rh minion that’s in love with him, jielie the spy, dragon boy. Speaking of, is he the only dragon?

  82. @pm3 sorry I think I may have posted a duplicate and now it’s in moderation

  83. fixed. 🙂

  84. Lol birdie007 Clearly the celestials don’t believe in fact checkers, witness the random way they accepted criminal RH’s confession that DongFang was at fault and initiated a huge war in the process.

That hand thing in X clan ruins was somehow connected to the sorting God (Great Turtle or something) who called her an old friend. They obviously had interactions in her original goddess days. Lol yes it does function as a sorting hat🤣🤣

I think the mom of Jieli/Danyin was played by the same actor who plays Jieli. Yes, they had a sort of half-broken token/emblem which the celestial father and Moon tribe mother gave to each sister before they separated. The father took one baby while the mother took the other. We know from RH’s evil lady minion later that the mother died in transit and putting two and two together I would think the evil lord of Haishi city took Jieli away to be raised, unaware of her roots.

Lol dragon boy is too tame, I have seen notjing dragon-like in twems of ferocity or bearing from him ever since he last flew. He had seemed quite a regal beast when DongFang had first awoken him but turned out to be a character with no backbone. In fact, I think DongFang’s brother now truly cares for him and also is part of the deception to fool Fairy into thinking DongFang no longer loves her. They did look at each other after Fairy left crying in ep.30 and there was an unspoken understanding between the two.

I almost want to skip next 4 episodes to avoid all the angst and crying but I think I’m a sadist and can’t stop myself from watching 😛

I have a feeling these Cdramas up the cry quotient more than kdramas, but I’ve not watched a lot of historical kdramas.

Is Blue Whisper the one with Dilraba and a mermaid guy? I don’t like Dilraba (something about her eyes). And I couldn’t stomach the idea of a merman ML😅

  85. Girlfriend @Phoenix and @grace, it might just be shrieking loud because they were really close to their device. It’s hilarious how the canvas kept falling though. You can tell whose the calmed one. 🤣

  86. Lol it was funny, @agdr03 that the prop/set guy didn’t set it up properly but maybe it was an impromptu chat with fans. They sounded warm though.

  87. Ooh @packmule3 I just noticed my comment went up for moderation too, just like @agdr03’s on the other thread. Not sure if I used a banned word.

Maybe I posted too many posts in my excitement about this drama after a long time..Lol

  88. fixed both, @Phoenix.

    No banned words were used.
No, I don’t limit posts of regulars. (Remember our fast-paced postings during rewatches?)

    Soooo I don’t know what’s going on.

  89. Thank you, @packmule3😊😊 I see both my posts now. Thank you for putting them back up, and hope it wasn’t a bother in the middle of your Zoom calls. I remember the frenzied posting during rewatches😛 It feels good to get back into the drama discussing mode here on BoD after a hiatus, thank you for preserving this safe place for use 😊

Once we are sure it’s a happy ending in next 6 episodes, maybe you will have time to watch this drama too😄

  90. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Once again, we do not seem to be getting the subbed Episodes yet. Usually they drop by now. Anyone got the next episodes yet?

  91. @gb, I was under the impression we won’t get a new episode until Saturday

  92. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @birdie, thanks! I’ll catch up on other shows.

  93. Yes, @GB, @birdie007 is right. Viki shows that the next 2 episodes will be available in 3 days. This means we will get 2 each per day over the weekend, just like last weekend.

  94. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Okie dokie @Phoenix. Thanks! A break is good too. Since I no longer mind getting spoilers I’m just watching whatever is out there. 🙂

  95. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This is kind of funny …. errr a blow(er) job?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpJa8XWQyqc

The blue set is something I’ve heard about. There are huge halls of sets where while one side is filming, another side is constructing the set for another scene. So there is a lot of background noise, but all that is taken out and the the sounds are added in later by foley artists, and voices are added with voice actors. So most times these period dramas need to be dubbed.

  96. Hahaha @GB that BTS video is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How do they manage to run around in those long flowy dresses though?! Those are tripping traps and they actually climb up and down those blue couches while chading each other😝😝
Esther actually gets some set assistant to tie a knot on her dress so she have better mobility..haha

That blue set looks like a circus to me. Imagine it’s a blank set eith nothing and everything around is just CGI. Must be funny to act in such seeting though, wonder how they get a feel of the place…must visualize in their mind or watch the CGI on a monitor in front. That’s what they do in Hollywood action movies like Marvel ones.

  97. @GB haha…they are quite playful on set. They are a couple you don’t feel like you could ‘ship’ but their interactions are very enjoyable to watch. I think we are going to see a lot more of their bts in this week.

This is how they use the blower…so noisy!

  98. OST 4 is a hint to what will happen at the end, I think. We are anticipating their separation and hopefully that meeting again after a long period of separation will happen.

  99. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Phoenix @grace, glad you found that BTS clip amusing. I was a bit stunned that they played around so ‘rough’ as they did. Wouldn’t it get really hot under 4 layers of clothing? The costumes could have been torn, the long robes looked like they’d trip me up, and LOL, they have to protect the hair from being tangled by clipping it together. Did you notice DFQC’s hair and costume clipped back at the end?

I was thinking the make-up and hair artists felt some consternation. They’d have to mop up perspiration and re-do their work. I heard the voice of the one behind the camera saying something about the hair being affected by the blower.

I imagine this set is for those sweeping outdoor scenes and for flying/fighting in the air or being underwater scenes. I’d like to see their forest set and know how many are prop trees.

  100. @GB In CH’s mind, DF CQ wanted to hide her real identity from Orchid so she doesn’t know that he killed off her tribe. (We know that is not true) From CH point of view, Orchid should hate him for that and he is driving a wedge between them. It’s almost like DF CQ heard that conversation and painted himself bad, confirmed to her the suspicion CF planted that he is really someone she should hate.

I was trying to work out the conversation between RH and CH in the prison. When CH asked him is everything RH does is just to revive Chidi woman. RH said it is better for him not to know. Is it for real? If I recalled the past conversations of RH. I think it is for real. He is so twisted that he would do everything, anything to revive the person she loves.

I was also trying to work out the conversation between Evil God and DF CQ. What is Evil God’s method of trying to keep the Orchid and his people safe. I noticed that Evil God didn’t say he will keep DF CQ safe. The price can be

    1. DF CQ’s life, or DF CQ being possessed by Evil Spirits
    2. Or the need to feed on Evil spirits forever.

I think Evil God’s method would be killing more people and use their hate and all sort of dark emotions to fuel lives, to fuel him the Evil God too. This is based on the conversations Evil God has with RH in the past episodes.

    So the possible situations are:

    1. Orchid going to die anyway because Chidi Woman is suck up her life force. DF CQ will die because of the heart curse. Both dies.

    2. Orchid is killed by that special Cheng Yin sword to break that heart curse, so DF CQ won’t die because of situation 1. Then take the Bone Orchid and remove the seal on those 10000 soldiers.

Has DF CQ really done a deal with Evil God?

Evil God and his follower RH always thought they haven’t got a choice. If Evil God represent the deepest and the darkest desires. Accepting Evil God means giving in to the worst side, putting himself above the others. To live a life base on someone else pains. Will DF CQ do that? My view is no. I don’t think DF CQ is that kind of person. He is quite clever, and he usually choose what is right and put himself last. Evil God likes to present it as if he has no choice but to give in to him. I think there is one more choice. That is putting himself last, to sacrifice himself for both the woman and the people he loves.

The character design of DF CQ is consistent to me so far. In the earlier episode I was questioning why DF CQ would think he still have Hellfire after loving Orchid so deeply. In ep 29 I see that he actually knew. He just doesn’t know how to face it. Therefore I like to vote that he will do the right thing.

    ****spoiler of ep 32 preview****

    ****
    ****
    ****

Judging by the preview ep 32 DF CQ will save her. So we can cry a bit then. T_T

    **** end

RH is misguided thinking he not abiding the rules are his greatest way to love. I guess after seeing the likes of CH’s brother’s coldness, lack of compassion and self righteous because he is following rules, one can come to that twisted conclusion. However I hope CH and DF CQ is above that. Between following rules or giving in to the greatest desires, I trust our two boys will make a better choice.

Xi Shan Goddess comes with some special power. She can repair broken spirits. Her blood can revive death. She can purify the evil spirits. If we are hoping for the happy ending, are these powers something we can hope that can be useful?

  101. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Here’s Dylan speaking to ‘us’ international viewers in an interview of sorts where he answers viewers’ questions.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY-PH5hvChI

This was the time he explained how he and Esther had to act out their roles for each of them to imitate when they body swapped.

I thought it was funny how he had to keep his armour costume on and could barely use his phone or drink because he was still wearing those long finger nails. I wonder why he couldn’t just remove them for the times he was resting.

  102. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Viva, I’ll answer you in parts as it’s rather long.

In CH’s mind, DF CQ wanted to hide her real identity from Orchid so she doesn’t know that he killed off her tribe. (We know that is not true) From CH point of view, Orchid should hate him for that and he is driving a wedge between them.

This thing about lacking verification… no one to verify with, I guess. So the ‘fairies’ choose to believe that the Moon Tribe killed off the Xilan Clan and that becomes fact? So much fake news!

It might have been an attempt to drive a wedge between them, but I feel he really believed that she should not be marrying the guy who killed her family and clan. In most dramas, it would really be a deal breaker for a couple. But this show is so REFRESHING because Fairy is totally level headed about it. She accepts that it may be true but she does not know those people who died and what she hears may be true or false. In her mind, she is not the Goddess, and hence should not bear the burden of the Goddess in this life when in the person of Fairy Orchid.

Fairy to CH : “”In this world what is real and what is fake? I only know I love DFQC. It’s real. He loves me. That’s also true. It’s more real than anything. That’s enough.”

(That will probably all change later, when she does realise her true self and embraces it. That’s when she will ‘marry’ Chang Heng.)

It’s almost like DF CQ heard that conversation and painted himself bad, confirmed to her the suspicion CF planted that he is really someone she should hate.

Yes… the noble idiocy thing at work. But still, he should make it clear that he was not the one who killed off all the Xilan clan, or maybe he feels responsible anyway, since RH killed them to get the Goddess to revive Chidi, who died because of him? (Very convoluted!!)

  103. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My guess is that he’s now also serving the Evil God in return for keeping Chidi ‘alive’, and he will have to keep feeding Evil God with poor souls who will be transformed into evil spirits, from people whom he will either keep killing or garner from the war. I think that could be why he wants wars to be fought constantly. At the same time, his machinations to keep the Cangyan civil wars going for 10s of centuries was to weaken Canyan so that now, without Hellfire, MS would be unable to defend his people, and could be at the mercy of Evil God.)

RH’s forward thinking was actually quite phenomenal, and his choosing the Bone Orchid as the safe place for Chidi Woman’s spirit was also inspired.

MS to XF : . “This Bone Orchid is made of my blood. If she is not deeply in love with me, it would be an ordinary protection device. But if she is devoted to me, the Bone Orchid can no longer be taken away. If it is taken by force, it will hurt her life.”
MS : “The fragmented spirit of Chidi Woman is feeding on Fairy’s spirit power through the Bone Orchid. If the Bone Orchid is not removed, in less than 10 days when the Chidi Woman’s spirit is restored, Fairy will die of exhaustion.”

XF : “Does this mean that the Moon Queen won’t live.”
Shang Que notes that if Fairy’s life is not preserved, then MS’s life would also be at stake.

RH really came up with a great plan to do away with both Fairy and QC, bring back Chidi, and provide lots of souls during the war to feed the Evil God.

  104. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Viva
    You said:

I was also trying to work out the conversation between Evil God and DF CQ.

Evil God speaks to MS : “This is the most secret and darkest corner in your heart, and I am the owner of this place.”
MS summons a sword, saying it’s an illusion. “I’ll break the spell and find out your real body.”
MS uses the sword against the black swirling mass but EG says “You can’t kill me. If you could still manipulate Hellfire, you might be able to dispel the evil spirit and escape from here. But now you can’t do anything.
MS to Evil God : “You are too weak to trick me.”
EG : “Then, why didn’t you tell her about the Bone Orchid.” (EG is challenging MS with his act of omission. If the EG and the Chidi Woman’s spirit was a harmless illusion, then the Bone Orchid would not be a source of danger to Fairy.)
    MS : “Shut up!”
He slashes uselessly at Evil God.
EG sighs : “You are too angry. People with choices won’t be so angry.” (This is the Father of Lies speaking. Usually the choices are not really choices. Evil would have circumscribed the so called choices so that the most evil choice was the most advantageous.)

“You must be in a lot of pain now. If you choose your beloved, the Moon Tribe will be destroyed. If you choose your tribe, your beloved will die. This is the saddest thing in the world. But I can save her and teach you how to release the 100,000 soldiers. As long as you cooperate with me, you will not need to make an either-or choice between your tribe and your beloved.” (Very tempting. EG lays out the temptation and waits.)

My guess is that EG wants to trap MS in the same way that he had trapped RH. He would offer MS his evil spirits power to replace the Hellfire, or as you say, use dark emotions to fuel lives and maybe he could reactivate those soldiers, but they’d be possessed. I recall the zombies in Hai Shi when the evil spirits entered the townspeople. They wanted to go on a killing spree. The other thing is, if he is not lying about knowing how to release the solders, he might know how to make use of Goddess’ power to reanimate them.

Yes, EG did not mention whether MS himself would be safe or not.

Your scenarios are possible too… No matter what, the moment anyone colludes with EG, they would be enslaved by him.

  105. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Viva
    You said:

Has DF CQ really done a deal with Evil God?

I think not yet, and not likely to. He already had picked up some evil spirits here and there, and maybe he used them to make his sword smoulder and make Fairy think he was colluding with EG. then she’d be so disgusted with him that she might stop loving him…(or some such logic in his mind. But of course Fairy won’t be quite that easily fooled. She had already guessed that MS was in a difficult position and that was why he had ‘changed’.)

Accepting Evil God means giving in to the worst side, putting himself above the others. To live a life base on someone else pains. Will DF CQ do that? My view is no. I don’t think DF CQ is that kind of person. … I think there is one more choice. That is putting himself last, to sacrifice himself for both the woman and the people he loves.

Yes, I kind of expect that… the give and take couple. I die for you then you die for me, that kind of thing. LOL.

RH is misguided thinking he not abiding the rules are his greatest way to love.

Yes. Very misguided. I thought from the first that Chidi, being so righteous, would hate that he’s using evil spirits to keep her ‘alive’ and then to resurrect her with Evil God’s help, by killing Fairy in the process. That’s why the appearance of a ‘sober’ Chidi/Wan Qing in Fairy’s dream was such a good scene. It showed that Chidi herself, as a good person and didn’t mind making the sacrifice. She entered the dream to warn Fairy.

So I feel that RH is actually causing his beloved master a lot of grief by keeping her alive the evil way.

Xi Shan Goddess comes with some special power. She can repair broken spirits. Her blood can revive death. She can purify the evil spirits. If we are hoping for the happy ending, are these powers something we can hope that can be useful?

I actually sort of mentioned before that she could be the one to revive the soldiers without the primordial spirit of Chidi. I was wondering why no one mentioned this. In the beginning, afterall. RH destroyed the Xilan Clan to get her to save Chidi, so why not talk her around to finding her Xishan Goddess powers to save Chidi? Then she could also save the soldiers.

  106. @GB I had the same idea. I think Orchid will sacrifice herself to revive all the frozen spirits. Remember she had said earlier to DongFang that her blood can revive the dead. Hence it’s logical that she will figure this out and go to the battlefield herself and make sure her blood falls on the battlefield.
In this case, we don’t need Chidi Woman at all. The moment, Orchid’s current body dies, the Heart Curse is removed as well as DongFang is free of the person for whom he has love, so maybe Hellfire will be restored too. Chidi woman’s spirit can go back to wherever she is meant to go.
This to me is the most feasible solution to awaken the soldiers and win/stop the war. Once DongFang has so much additional army strength plus Hellfire, the immorals will abandon the war.

  107. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @Phoenix… you spelt Immortals as ‘Immorals’ and I actually agree… that could be a better name for the ‘heavenly lot’. They are not as upright or ‘white’ and full of light as they think they are. In fact they constantly make prejudiced decisions without justice. They are petty and mean like humans and have no business thinking themselves so much better than others.

  108. On MS being possessed by the EG, I wonder if he is pretending to be, and he already has a plan. When his eyes turn black it was because he enters the conversation with EG?

I also think Goddess Xilan will be the one to subdue the EG eventually since it is their tribe that supresses the EG to protect the rest of the realms.

In preview 32, he said “I knew from the beginning, you do not exist.”
Could it be that she is only an fragment of her real self that is still hidden in the protection of her parents. Her real person is not what he sees now. Which is why she will have to die for her real self to come out.

We have not been told what it means to not have an immortal root, nor how will she be able to come out of the protection of her parents.
Also, I wonder if Orchid’s Master left because she didn’t want to be involved in the ‘mess’ that will be happening else she would want to tamper with Orchid’s fate to save her.

In the OST 4 – Lingering feelings, the lyrics may be a hint to how they will find each other back again.

“I hope our palm lines extend and tangle till it grows
    Unconsciously, silently
I know you are always in my heart
I hope my remaining years will be changed into a dream of infatuation tonight (is this the dream MS is talking about???)
To meet you after waiting during this long period of separation”

  109. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@grace, yes, when his eyes turned black, he met with the Evil God who had taken up residence in the corner of his mind or heart. Conversing with evil is always a bad idea. This EG is a good characterisation of the real devil… a Father of Lies who argues very convincingly and offers the easier path.

I also think Goddess Xilan will be the one to subdue the EG eventually since it is their tribe that supresses the EG to protect the rest of the realms.

Ah you have reminded me of this. So it’s so appropriate that Goddess goes head-to-head against Evil God since her clan had been the one to keep him under control for centuries. When she finally gets all her powers activated, it would be great if she is the one who defeats him as well.

In preview 32, he said “I knew from the beginning, you do not exist.”Could it be that she is only an fragment of her real self that is still hidden in the protection of her parents. Her real person is not what he sees now. Which is why she will have to die for her real self to come out.

This is an interesting thought. I thought at first that this scene might have been that he was imagining her being there because he missed her (this is during their time of separation). Her parents being with her and hiding her away and then being killed reminds me of Harry Potter too, and what Harry’s parents did to save him. We certainly were given a glimpse of her parents when she held off the evil spirits on that fateful wedding night, so they are still with her in spirit, giving her more strength at that crucial moment.

It’s a common theme, where the saviour is ‘hidden’ in the smallest and weakest, but would rise at the right time to bring salvation to his/her people. (It is even in Christianity that this is in the plan of God).

We have not been told what it means to not have an immortal root, nor how will she be able to come out of the protection of her parents.

I thought it meant that she would never be able to cultivate to reach the level of the other immortals who were truly able to live forever. I guessed it was thought that she’d never be able to gain more power or live forever. However the reverse is true. She already has a great deal of hidden power and she is likely a true Immortal too, like DFQC.

Also, I wonder if Orchid’s Master left because she didn’t want to be involved in the ‘mess’ that will be happening else she would want to tamper with Orchid’s fate to save her.

This is plausible. Maybe her getting drunk all the time was also because she wanted to avoid thinking about a big responsibility that had been given to her, to take care of the Goddess. Her staying away might have been a way to protect Fairy as well.

Thanks for the lyrics of the OSTs. They give us hope! The word, ‘dream’, is mentioned a few times but I’m not sure what it refers to. When lovers can’t be together, they rely on imagining or dreaming that their beloved is with them, to soothe temporarily, the pain of separation.

  110. @Grace @GB
I think that line “I knew from the beginning that you are not real” is actually kind of tragic in that DongFang never has known any sort of softness or kindness in his life, and always knew that the presence of someone like Fairy in his life to care for him is only temporary – too good to be true. Soneone who is as bad as him does not deserve the love of someone as good as fairy. This is how I interpreted that line – that in his mind, he always knew this happiness and dream of love would be fleeting.
We will understand the true context once we have watched the episode.

  111. Also to add to the mystery of Moon Supreme and Fairy love, I’m not sure if the mirroring of the artwork and actual filming has any purpose. It is like looking through the looking glass, or the Tianjin mirror?

  112. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks for the Twitter link @grace. That was a good catch by the Tweeter. I know that they looked repetitive but I didn’t consider that they were mirror images. Yes, the Tianjin Mirror comes to mind. Very beautiful artwork either way.

@Phoenix, that thought did cross my mind. I found it a sad thought. He has confidence in many things, but not in having people who really care about him. It took Fairy to point out that he could trust Shang Que, before he realised that he could. At least now he has his brother and his general, thanks to Fairy. I think Xun Feng really meant it when he said that he had tremendous respect for Fairy

  113. @grace and @GB as far as I know the line is denoting that they are in a dream. Dylan wang briefly mentioned it in his and Esther’s latest livesteam. That’s why he says she’s not real but appearing in his dream.

As far as the Shifu goes, another user and Avenue X told this production company likes to do the thing where people from different dramas are in the same universe. The user told me the Master, Li Yi Tong was the female lead of Royal Nirvana by the same company. In that show the FL dies, hence she keeps getting drunk here and claims that love is of no use. So it’s a cameo that people familiar with the production house’ other dramas will understand. In this show least she will appear again to play an important part.

  114. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks for the info @wapz… that’s closer to what I was guessing above that when the couple is separated, they comfort themselves by imagination or by dreaming that they are together.

Ah, I see,… so there’s a meta reference to the actor’s/actress’ other show by the same company. I await the reappearance of Shifu to know how important her role will be.

  115. Thank you for the info @wapz. Provides some context on dramas set in same universe.

  116. @wapz, thanks for the nugget of info, looking forward to coming full circle of these characters introduced in the beginning.

Also I think the reason MS says all those heart-breaking things to Orchid is not that he was possessed. He could be trying to make Orchid not love him anymore so that the the Bone Bracelet will loosen and she will no longer have her essence taken over by Chidi Nuzi.
But we know it is all futile, her love for him runs so deep, she knows it is out of character for him to be that, despite all the hurtful things he says to her.

From the preview, Orchid aka new Goddess Xilan will not remember MS which is why we see her pushing him away. I think the Bone Bracelet will be the key to her finding her memories back. That’s the part we have not much clue about. How will they get back together in the end??

  117. @GB, yes no one to verify. And I think that’s why MS said the fairies are hypocrites. The message I worked out is there is always a perception. Without being a good listener, it can turn into prejudice. CH’s brother, the guy with mushroom headpiece (“the mushroom guy”) is the typical hypocrite. He thinks they are a better tribe than the others. He chooses to believe what they want to believe to suit his deepest desires – to be a hero. Just because he was born in a powerful position (not by earning it) and is strict in following the rules. He thinks he is better than anyone. There is no compassion. He has no desire to find out the other side of the stories. He is the only side. That’s why he has fallen into RH’s plan. Mushroom guy’s deepest desire is to be a hero. He ordered an unjustified war, creating more hate and pain to feed the Evil God. That’s why Moon Supreme called the fairies hypocrites.

This is a contrast to MS who gained his respect from his people. MS may be born to be that position. Quoting Orchid, people respect MS because he earned it. He listened to his people. Like @GB said, he never punished anyone who doesn’t deserve it (like the female elder from the hunting village). He is OK to listen to opposing views and take that into account of his planning. The best thing is he admit mistakes. (refer to the list of good stuff he has done in the appreciation thread).

Of course, not following moral compass is wrong. RH is the bad example. He thought he by not following rules (opposite of mushroom guy) for the sake of love is worth it. That’s called selfish.

CH is probably doing his own soul searching. With a brother and a friend like RH, will he work out what is the right way to go? Will he be able to see the other side of the story?

Off to work. Write more later 🙂 With the airing break it gives us more time to talk about the stories!

  118. @Viva, ah the contrast between to the two leaders of the Moon tribe and Shuiyuntian tribe.

It really makes us think twice about our assumptions and perception of things. When we first watched the initial episodes, did anyone think Shuiyuntian people were the bad guys? Not really isn’t it? But as we watch more and grasped the way they do things, the more we felt that something isn’t quite wholesome about them. The overemphasis on rules and abiding by it without mercy reminds me of the Pharisees and High Priests of the New Tewtament in the bible, when they the law to punish according to the way that works for them.

Of course Moon Supreme isn’t all that pure either, he must have also done really terrible things like killing people (ie. his dad!!) And so many people feared him because he could kill them in an instant. He was going to kill Jieli for stealing his things.
I wondered if he really did kill a lot of his own people or that it was only fear that grips them . Yet I we have had many instances when MS was merciful, he didn’t seem to kill unnecessarily and mindlessly. People respected him and he cared for his people and wanted them to live a peaceful life. Seen by how he feels so much remorse for the 100k soldiers who did not return.
His way of bringing order is in exhibiting his strength to bring them into submission. Maybe having those death stares are really useful for scaring people?

So I’m saying towards the end, those we thought were the good guys became the bad guys and vice versa. So what we see on the surface is not always what it is, not all good guys are always good. (Maybe this section also should also be in MS appreciation)

Adding an interview here that I enjoyed. There are 5 parts
    https://twitter.com/XuKai_Soso0305/status/1562868029519630338?t=_bi0m-AqxIT_6oqGMBoZfQ&s=19

  119. Oh I have to add that MS did things for his tribe. His sacrifice is also sacrificing his emotions. Later on, it would probably be Orchid.

But the mushroom head guy did things for his tribe but, by sacrificing others: Chidi Nuzi and his brother God of War. I never felt he ever went to war with these people like how MS did. That’s the big difference that make us respect MS more and more.

  120. @Grace, yeah. A bit like the Pharisees. They probably have toned down the bad side of MS to make it more likeable. I can’t remember – did he kill innocent people in Haishi City?

    Thanks for the link! 🙂

I know right. Mushroom guy just sent another person to do the job. Totally hands off.

    Moon Tribe proposal

Another thing I was thinking is the way people from Moon Tribe propose. They seem to do it by offering a key to their treasures (instead of a ring). It is quite a nice concept. It is meaningful and literally they give what they own to the person they love.

There are two back stories I can’t recall a lot of the details:

    1. Back story of CH’s mum and dad. Do we know more? We only know CH’s mum ran away and the Dad is somewhere.

    2. Back story of Moon Tribe Yunnv (did I catch the name right)? I forgot their names. Do we know more other than he betrayed her? I think there may be a correction of the way Yunnv dealt with heartbreak. Getting rid of emotions aren’t way to go. Hellfire is too cruel.

  121. Ahh another thing. I read that this drama is going to Netflix. 18 September or something. Once it is on Netflix, it is so much easier to recommend to other people.

  122. Yay to Netflix buying over the drama!

@Viva, the back stories also make me curious, will we get to know them. Will they reveal these characters they talked about in due time? I am also curious about the original Yunnv. Did she/he(?) get rid of emotions because the heartbreak was too hard for her? Maybe I might catch something if I rewatch.

  123. OST Part 6
This aptly is coming out at the later part and I think it is giving us clues to the period where one of them lost memories of the other. I think it would be Orchid. She will dream of her past and she will be trying to find the face she sees in the dream, that she can’t see clearly. Maybe this will be at the River of Memory Loss because that is where they had some significant memories.
It is a sad song, of not being able to recall someone important and a longing of someone who had a significant impact to her in the past. I love the tune of this song.

When the male and female voice takes turn to sing the verse, it is like their individual experience. When it comes to the verse they sing together, it is like what they both experienced together.

  124. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you @grace I really like OST 6. It’s the one I mentioned a couple of times. I expect to hear it a lot these last 6 episodes since they will be separated and have amnesia (the usual stuff). I’m also hoping that the instrumental OSTs will be published. There is at least one I find quite heart-pounding or heart-wrenching.

About Yannv – Yes, what I noted when I rewatched was that Yunnv (from the Moon Tribe) was in a love relationship with Chonghua (of the Fairy Realm). Their marriage would have united the realms, but Chonghua spoiled a real good thing by being unfaithful.

Fairy comes to MS to say she would go into the Fuju Cave. “Because I want to be with you.”
MS : “You can be with me without entering the Fuju Cave. You don’t need to suffer for me at all.”
Fairy : “I will do it for you, but not entirely for you. Since ancient times, when Yannv and Chonghua broke up, the wars between Fairies and the Moon Tribe have never stopped. … I can’t tell whose hatred is deeper…
If we allow the hatred to keep going and no one wants to stop, tragedies will happen again.”

So in the ‘circle of life’ sort of way, I expect that despite disparate pairings/marriages in between, the final union will be with the goddess (who came from the Fairies) who is impartial across all realms and clans/tribes and the king (from the Moon Tribe) who was destined to unite the three realms.

I agree with you and @Viva that Yun Zhong does not deserve our respect because he sends others to war and others do the self-sacrificing, while he sits back with his pinched expression. MS was willing to take on the punishment for not delivering on his promise. He had as a child, as you said above, had to sacrifice his emotional life. He mentioned to Fairy that he was like a zombie/corpse without understanding emotions ie not fully alive.

Now he returns with not only a sense of responsibility to regain honour for his tribe, but a warmer feeling towards people in general, and a better sense of justice than Yun Zhong.

  125. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Viva
MS in Haishi – This scene of MS coming to save Fairy and destroying Haishi is quite unique. Everyone simply disintegrated. I watched it again to see if there was any blue Hellfire, but I didn’t see it. If it was Hellfire, it manifested differently. His power just seemed to sweep over every soldier who dissolved.

Good point about the Moon Tribe marriage proposal. I like it. The woman gets the key to all the man’s current and future wealth. One assumes it’s the key to his heart as well of course! It made it extra special that in the end it was Fairy who did the proposing, offering herself to be with MS forever with her little flower bracelet.

About the backstory of Chang Heng – no… Show has not revealed anything. I was surprised to hear that his mother ran away and is denounce by the Fairy Tribe.

In Episode 26 CH rebels. He says to YZ: “I used to respect you as my brother.

In Episode 27 CH tells Fairy : “In Shuiyuntian, because of the role of God of War, and also because of my mother’s sin of running away, during all those years/for so many years, I’ve been abiding by Heaven’s rules. I did not dare to take a wrong step. I couldn’t even protect the one I love. I could only keep her in my heart. When I was in Lu Cheng, I finally realised, what I want.”

So that’s why CH was a goody-goody, trying to stick to all the rules… maybe that’s why Yun Zhong was so much a wielder of ancient rules too. They were justifying their place in the Fairy Tribe by being the good boys to make up for their mum’s action. No clue where their father is hiding.

Yes, about Yannv. She dealt with heartbreak by removing her emotions. It only worked for her. And finally many thousands of years later, for MS. So they were the only ones to be able to control and master Hellfire. That’s why MS is the hope of the tribe.

Yannv made it her quest to assuage her heartbreak by destroying Shuiyuntian (I said before that this was overkill over a love affair/heartbreak). The trouble is that she made it a mandate that the Moon Tribe had to regain their honour after she was betrayed. Her personal affair became an international crisis.

Where MS is concerned, he is interested in restoring the tribe’s honour after the great war when he was imprisoned and his people trampled upon in his absence. So it’s less a personal vendetta thing but a mission for the tribe. I liked how he explained to Fairy that his desire was to unite the 3 realms so that his people would not have to live in fear and want. He said he wanted the people of Cangyan Sea to suffer less diseases, less disasters, and never suffer separation.

  126. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @grace for the link to the Twitter interview with Dylan. He’s fun to listen to. (The other tweets are fun too.)

Going down the list of tweets there was this one by @dylah_dee
    “Lost his emotions
    Lost his father
Lost 30 000 freaking years of his life trapped in Haotian Tower
    Lost his 100 000 people/army
And now he’s about to lose his one and only love..the better half of him”

Good summary of why he wants to avenge his losses. As @pkml3 says, he’d been unconscious for 30,000 years. So the war and the loss are still fresh for him, as if they had happened just 3 months ago.

But he’s prepared to separate himself from his one and only love for the greater good and for her safety, not knowing that she will have plans to save him as well, that results in him really losing her. We are entering the phase of the tragic anti-hero. Poor kid.

@grace Thanks!!! Yes, I love knowing the rationale behind the production, design and choices generally. I’ll be on Twitter for a while, it seems, although I never tweet.

LOL, I know exactly how you feel. The only saving of me is that many articles/interviews, etc are not subbed yet, so that reduces the amount of stuff I’ll read or listen to. Otherwise it’s one of those rabbit holes that I can’t get out of. No end to the fan-made stuff and even to the interviews, yet.

@pkml3 You asked whether this Show would have a happy ending. I can tell you now that it’s safe to watch. Despite the tropes of separation and memory loss, nothing was long drawn out. I hope this gives you impetus to carry on your watch and look out for the great dialogues. 🙂

  133. Kalimera Ladies!

I know that you have watched this and some of you are rewatching it! I have managed to watch until Episode 8. So here is what I wanted to say about LBFD:

For me is very significant the way the jakkanim is handling the theme from Saint – Exupery’s The Little Prince. The Little Prince was taking care of his Rose, while the Moon Supreme is cultivating Orchid.

The more time he is spending with her, the more he is longing for her and her company. They do share that bond / spell, but he really cares for her wellbeing.

In the beginning he just wanted her to open the Destiny Book of his opponent, but later on we see that he wanted her to just feel better.

Even though his emotions are switched off, from the man I suppose is / was his father. During his time with her, his walls have started to crumble down. Even when she gave him that sedative and told him to escape from the Fairy Land, he was not mad at her, but mostly sad, as Orchid was.

And that is all I want to say for now… 🙂

  134. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi there my dear @Cleo, I’m glad to know that you’ve started on LBFD.

You’re into the delicious part… and we come to the roller coaster of upset then calm then angry with a lot of funny.

That’s an interesting thought about The Little Prince and his Rose. Yes, his interactions with/taming of his Rose made her the most precious beloved to him. By becoming the object of his time and effort, she became the only love his heart could ‘see’.

At least twice Fairy Orchid told Moon Supreme that there were many other fairies/women that he could meet and that he should not be hung up on her, but no one else would do, at first because of the Heart Curse, but by the episodes in the 20s, she would be the only one for him, no matter what.

Yes, the man who broke his connection with his emotional root was his father.

He realised by the time she sent him off on the boat, that she’d been trying over and over again to get him to safety or at least back to where ‘he belonged’ in the Haotian Tower. Fairy Orchid is a person very committed to doing what is right. It did not sit well with her that he’d escaped from the Tower, and that she’d somehow helped him in this, plus that she was harbouring a ‘criminal/sinful immortal’. She constantly felt so bad about this that she never regained her full spiritual energy until after Ep 8.

Anyway, I’m guessing that he was able to get up once he awoke, but he let Fairy think he was still under the control of the medication, to let her have peace of mind. He was quiet and thoughtful about what he was observing, since he’d already figured out that to help her he had to see to her ‘heart’ and not just to her body, so I don’t feel that he was sad. She was sad though, since she was already attached to him in her own way.

You’ll see what I mean when you continue to watch. 🙂

  135. @GB Unnie,

I will watch this as a comfort drama whenever I have time to do so.
I will return here to write my thoughts most of the times.

I have to say that I am impressed on their twin crying scenes. It was nice watching Dylan Wang doing so. Especially with the Moon Supreme’s poker face. Orchid really changed this hard cell of him and I had to pinpoint that one.

Moon Supreme is not as bad as the Fairies say he is and I think what really happened in the past is bit altered as well. This is a hunch of mine. We shall see!

P.S. To be completely honest: Nope Lord ChangHeng, Orchid is not for you…LMAO!

  136. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, yes, the tales of the war were no longer accurate. What DFQC remembers clearly like it was literally yesterday (because he’d been unconscious for 30,000 years, so the war was just yesterday for him) he now finds has been corrupted into nonsensical accounts/inaccurate history.

Typically, the other party will white wash themselves and try to paint their opponents black. That’s what the Fairy Immortals did to the Moon Tribe and DFQC. Actually the Moon Tribe were not much different from Fairies, but ridiculous and false stories about how barbaric they were must have circulated widely, because Orchid and the other fairies believed the false information.

I liked all of the main couple’s scenes together, bickering, threatening, negotiating, crying, angry, and comforting. They have many lovely scenes together talking things out. Even when they do not see eye-to-eye, they respect each other.

It was a great basis upon which to build a closer relationship.

  137. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, will you be interested in starting the Liar Game Watch/Rewatch Party? @WE and I are still ok to do the Rewatch.

I’m proposing starting on October 8th, at 14:00 UTC (same hour as the ‘W’ Rewatch). I’m posting on the other thread to check if anyone else is still interested. 🙂

  138. Kalimera @GB Unnie!

Oh, I got frustrated last night with Orchid doing stupid things, resulting to the body swap. She is oblivious to the dangers around her…*facepalm*

  139. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo, you’re in Episode 10-11? Ep 11 is hilarious.

I found that she was quite resourceful since her aim was to get away if she could. She had no power as herself and she remembered how they swapped bodies before. She might as well test it out and it would be better than being stuck in the Hall with thunder and lightning all the time, and being forced to fix the Destiny Book.

Of course she did not look beyond her immediate needs, and forgot that MS has a lot of enemies. When he does tell her this, she did not believe him at first. However it was consistent with being just a naive plant, mostly alone, and not in the know about politics.

She wises up slowly but it happens.

  140. Unnie,

Yes I am currently on 11, but I haven’t finished the last 15 minutes. Of course he has many enemies. His brother is one and he realized that something was off.

Still, I saw that the conspiracies are blooming in this world…🙄

  141. CORRECTION: conspiracies*

  142. Kalimera!

My favorite episode so far is 14… *grins*

  143. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @Cleo
I was just revisiting Episode 14. I was amused that MS threatened Fairy using Jie Li but then Fairy had only to ask Shang Que to let her have Jie Li and he let her go. She was stunned.

This nullifies all the threats and blackmail by Moon Supreme LOL. (This means that SQ had interpreted the prior orders that Fairy was to be obeyed. This is partly due to how MS had rescinded all the restrictions and she was free to go about and not be stopped or hurt [on pain of death], but also because Jie Li had been feeding SQ the idea that Fairy was bound to end up the Moon Queen.)

Fairy said that SQ is so stubborn and will only listen to MS Lord, LOL and is proven wrong this time much to her surprise. He even gives her a salute worthy of the Moon Queen.

    = = =
I like this part: Fairy says she does not know what kind of relationship she is in with MS.

Jie Li asks 3 questions to clarify what kind of relationship MS and Fairy have.
    1) Have you held hands? [Yes]
    2) Spent time in the same room? [Embarrassed affirmative with attempt at justification.]
    3) Kissed? (Many times LOL)

    = = =
Fairy gets Shang Que to call MS over to give him a surprise.
MS : “Surprise? It’s good that she doesn’t scare me.” (LOL even SQ smiles.) MS looks at the You Jade Ring.

(He wants to know her feelings. He was perhaps remembering that he’d enjoyed feeling her joy before and was hoping to experience that again, thinking a surprise should be a good thing. Or he wanted to be prepared in case it was a nasty surprise… take your pick!)

He removes the You Jade Ring. So all their conversation after that is with him sort of feeling what she’s feeling so he knows she’s trying to wheedle something out of him and wanted to walk away.

Jie Li coaches Fairy on how to win MS over:
Step 1) she is to smile naturally and act like she thinks he likes her since he built the Hall for her.
Step 2) hold his hand gently and walk with him through the garden
Step 3) remember shared experiences, be sentimental about what he’d done for her, etc to get on his good side.

Fairy thinks it’s too cheesy/disgusting. Jie Li complains that Fairy does not understand that this is romance. Jie Li : “I don’t know why the Lord likes you.” LOL that’s because MS is even more ignorant about romance than Orchid. Still so many things he did were soooo romantic and he was clueless.

    = = =
    SWOONY LINES Count (Ep 14)
MS : “Why do you call me Wooden Head?”
F : “The Moon Supreme sounds disobliging. It’s scary. I don’t dare to tell you my feelings. It feels we’re much closer to call you Wooden Head…. But if you don’t like that I won’t call you that anymore.”
He thinks about that and says she can call him whatever she wants. (This is in line with him wanting her to treat him like before in the real Arbiter Hall. Possibly, also, because he’s not wearing the You Jade Ring, he can tell that when she calls him Wooden Head, she’s more sincere than when she calls him Moon Supreme Lord.)

Fairy : “I counted the flowers in the Arbiter Hall. There are really 8,452 flowers.” (She is bringing up the shared memories that are exclusive to them as a sign of their closeness. This feels not like it’s because Jie Li told her to, but it came from her own heart.)

MS : “What are you trying to say?”
F : “You even remember such a trivial thing? You even remember what happened between us. Your kindness to me is true, not false.” (This is in response to their fight when she first came to the replica Arbiter Hall, where she had been hurt that he said everything was fake, including his kindness to her.)

He tells her that he cannot fall in love because he had his emotional root removed (but it was just that the connection with his emotional root was broken).

MS senses her feelings : “You know about my love-removal, and you are not sad, but happy. Why?”

F’s point of view : “So you said you hated me. It isn’t true. you’ve only been removed from your feelings. You have no choice. It’s not your fault.” He looks a bit surprised. (Instead of how she’d thought that his regard had been fake, she now says it’s his rudeness/cruel words that had been fake. From the Love Tree, she sees that his loss of feelings can be reversed, because she has the power to heal plants.)

F : “Jie Li was right. I should think more about what you did for me. You’ve done so much for me. This time, it’s my turn.” (He can feel her sincerity now. Compare this to when she was saying she saved him once and that made them even… but now she’s saying that she wants to repay him more.)

F : “It’s just a Love Tree. You’re lucky. Although I’m just a useless fairy, there’s nothing I can’t cure. (That will be more true when she’s the goddess.) He looks at her half hopefully, half disbelievingly?

This is the start of Fairy becoming determined to heal his Love Tree.

  144. Unnie, kalimera!

On Netflix I have slightly different subtitles, but the meaning is the same.

I really enjoyed when the Moon Supreme was listening to the two Kings and then he started to laugh and cry. They thought that their suggestion to kill his brother was inappropriate. Only SQ realized that something was happening with Orchid!
    Dylan Wang is truly talented…LOL

As for our Moon Supreme, what I really like in his character is that his actions speak volumes. Even though his emotional root is severed, he cares for Orchid dearly. Also the kiss he gave her back in Episode 13 in front of the War God was very profound. He marked her as his! He is jealous of him, because Orchid liked him. LOL

I am glad Orchid realized that he didn’t mean what he said back to her back then. He was also pissed off with her constantly trying to escape, without realizing that she has nowhere to go. She is not safe back in the FairyLand.

After rescuing him in Episode 13, Orchid has started to change as a character.
She is more mature than before and starts to understand that the Moon Supreme has a persona he needs to uphold for the others to see, but he is nothing like that in reality.

MS says he cannot feel, when he actually does. Orchid is the first person that he feels deeply for her, even though he denies it. At the same time, Orchid always says she wants to escape, but when she really had the chance to do so, she saved him in a blink. I am very curious to see when she will start to realize her feelings for him…

  145. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, I laughed all over again when I watched that scene with MS unable to control his laughter or his tears. When I really paid attention to his acting, I agree that he was very good there too (and in all the scenes where he was to show emotions with a stern face). Also the times they body swapped. Loved them and Dylan in those scenes.

As for our Moon Supreme, what I really like in his character is that his actions speak volumes. Even though his emotional root is severed, he cares for Orchid dearly.

Yes, he hasn’t figured out that just because he can’t recognise the feelings, does not mean he does not have them.

After rescuing him in Episode 13, Orchid has started to change as a character. She is more mature than before and starts to understand that the Moon Supreme has a persona he needs to uphold for the others to see, but he is nothing like that in reality.

Yes, the dialogue that they had over his emotional root is the start of her greater appreciation for what he has to do as the Moon Supreme. There will be another instance where this is brought home clearly to her. She has the dilemma of loving the man who has a mission that is in opposition to what she believes in.

It’s hard to pinpoint when Fairy decides or knows that she has fallen for MS. I have an idea but I’ll let you watch and suggest when first. 🙂

  146. Unnie,

I might rewatch the part where the Moon Supreme is laughing and then crying in order to ease the symptoms! LMAO! I really enjoyed that part as well…

I like that the Moon Supreme is complex as a character but most of all, I am really glad that he realizes himself some things, like that his second in command SQ respects and cares for him as well. It was a revelation for him when this happened – I forgot to mention that before.

DQ realizes that Orchid has perception about people and she is right most of the times. LOL!

On the other hand, ChangHeng, in order to live up to what his older brother Lord YunZhong believes and wants to do, was doing nothing, regarding Orchid.

This is the thing that The Moon Supreme questioned back in Episode 13. MS told him straight in the face, that you go by the book and you follow the rules / orders. How can you protect Orchid when you have done nothing for so long? And that is their huge difference, even though Orchid is indeed the Xihuan Goddess.

I think that the Moon Supreme and the Goddess have intewined fates, even though she is enganged to CH. As the mighty Turtle told her, she has one destiny and when she decides what she has to do, she does exactly that. Anyway we shall see…

Yes, we can talk about it when I am further in the episodes!

  147. I think a sentence was erased, I have a mild headache! LOL)

  148. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, now that you’ve mentioned it, I transcribed that part of Episode 13 where Moon Supreme listed all the stuff he can offer Fairy but Chang Heng can’t.

From what MS says, we find out what MS thinks he’s offering Fairy… MS of course refuses to return to Shuiyuntian with CH.

MS in Fairy’s body/speaking as Fairy : “Since I came to Cangyan Sea, I’ve been eating well and living well. The doctors used the best medicine to heal my whip wounds. I’m not a lowly spirit. I’m also not a traitor or spy who colluded with the Moon Tribe. I can be myself happily. Compared to the days where everyone in Shuiyuntian can bully me, it’s a hundred times better.”

Fairy thinks : “Don’t talk nonsense. That’s not what I think.” (I wonder what she DOES think. No matter what, she just wants to go home?)

CH thinks that Fairy’s just angry : “That day at Yun Zhong Water Pavilion, my brother hurt you because he misunderstood you.”

MS lists the tasks that Fairy should want CH to commit to if she were to go back with him : “If I go back with you, can you …
    1) guarantee to clear my name?
    2) If your Lord Yun Zhong refuses to pardon me, do you dare disobey him? 3) If he uses Heaven’s rules to question you and force you, can you protect me?
    4) If anyone dares to hurt me or blame me, can you turn them into ashes?”

Fairy listens to this and looks thoughtful.
CH to MS in Fairy’s body : “My brother has always been impartial. (Not true. CH refuses to see clearly.)

MS in Fairy’s body says : “I knew you can’t do it. You won’t even tell me something nice. But the Moon Supreme Lord can do all these. He’s willing to protect me, and not let anyone hurt me.” (Fairy who hears this must agree that it’s true.) “So I’m willing to stay here.”

CH : “Impossible. You’re a fairy of Shuiyuntian. No matter what, I will take you back to Shuiyuntian.” Unlike MS, CH fails to respect ‘Fairy’s’ wishes.

I suppose at this stage, if not for the body swap, if Fairy had been alone with CH, she probably would have gone back with him and likely suffered a hard time in SYT. However the body swap saved her … Even in MS’s body, she said to CH that he should go without her, but he still refused to act according to her wishes.

The stereotypical idea that if one is a fairy, one can’t possibly want to be with the Moon Tribe and vice versa, was so ingrained in all the people that CH refused to consider it, and no one could believe Fairy would remain willingly with MS unless she was a spy.

Part of the destiny of Fairy (together with MS) was to break that stereotypical view of the races. At the end we will see that she’s the only one who really fulfilled the role of the Goddess of Xishan.

  150. Kalimera @GB Unnie!

Another favorite episode so far is 18!

    (I am currently in 23.) 😁

  151. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes, I like Ep 18 too. It shows he great change in the main couple relationship. I like how MS would offer Fairy everything that he could give her. Squee worthy but not yet the right time. 🙂

  152. @GB Unnie,

MS is constant in what he wants. The problem was that Orchid was unhappy with his desire to go to war, because that was what his father wanted of him.

She wants peace, when he wants retaliation for what the Fairies did to the Moon Tribe.

On another note, I was shocked that Rong Hao killed everyone in the Xishan Tribe because the evil spirit told him to do so. In order to save his Master, he went into extremes tainting most likely her primordial spirit.

I am glad that in Lucheng, Lady Xie Wan Qing feels that Lady Orchid is a friend to her, because they were indeed close back in the days.

  153. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, yes, when they found themselves liking the other, they were faced with irreconcilable differences. Neither could give up their ‘mission’ in life for the other. But things got sorted out by the end of their Yun Meng experience.

RH did the most evil, never made restitution for the thousands that he killed and definitely tainted/ruined Chidi’s pure spirit. I’ve written about him here and there. He’s an interesting villain, with a sad backstory and a round character. He never respected Chidi’s desire to give up her life for others, and die in peace.

At least when it came to important stuff, MS did let Fairy make her own choices and he respected them.

I was watching the RH actor Xu Hai Qiao in the fan meeting and he’s quite charming as himself. I see him playing villains, and I generally don’t like his mocking look, but as himself, he’s quite good looking.

Yes, Chidi and Fairy as a child were close in the distant past.

  154. Unnie,

Yes RH is an interesting villain. That is one of his biggest flaws. He couldn’t let go of his Master and her desire to sacrifice herself for what she believed was the right thing to do as the God of War.

On the other hand, MS respects whatever Orchid wants or tells him she wants to do. What is truly complimentary of him is that he doesn’t try to change her mind.
He may disagree with her, but he doesn’t try to oppose her in what she feels is right.

That is something I really enjoy watching in the show in both of them. They both understand each other and their moral ground. They can communicate even though it is not easy for some matters.

Orchid knows exactly how deep MS’s pain is. I enjoyed it very much when she stood for him, after the lighting strikes, when his brother was keep telling nonsense! He is indeed so full of himself and his pain, that he didn’t even think that his brother was suffering as well…

I haven’t watched any videos regarding the show though. 🙁

  155. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, the videos will give spoilers so it’s just as well to avoid them.

Yes, I’m listing the times Fairy ‘saved’ or stood up for DFQC. It’s way more than expected!

  156. Kalimera Unnie!

    Episodes 24-25 were the bomb… 🙂

  157. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Cleo, you know what, I’m rewatching Ep 24 and 25 on my own now! LOL. I’ll come back here to comment on them again. 🙂

  158. Unnie,

I will rewatch them myself at some point! LOL!

  159. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo,
Ep 24 and 25 became so exciting after the funny petty jealousy scenes and ad hoc dating scene.

These were the episodes when people who thought themselves crossed in love actually weren’t, while those who thought they’d found their beloved ones actually were the ones crossed in love.

Fairy and MS were both jealous, thinking the other wanted to marry the ‘wrong’ people.

Xiao Run and Wan Qing thought they were marrying the ones they were destined to, but both were wrong.

SQ thought Jie Li meant it when she said she didn’t like him but she did like him enough to want to protect him from falling for her.

In Fairy’s conversation with MS on the wedding day, when they agreed to be mere mortals for that day: I like that Fairy’s time in the mortal realm gave her the experiences that changed her perspective. The concept of marriage, happiness or their opposites were now important to her, not just as objective events for others, but now had become personal experiences for her.

This was an important and necessary experience for her as the Goddess of Xishan. Her task would be to love all people, and now she was uniquely placed to be able to understand what was important to them, so that her love could be more authentic.

There was also a similarity in how they felt about what they were doing. Both Fairy and MS felt guilty for tricking WQ and XR who were sincere in their friendship. MS had become very human and relatable.

There were a few swoony lines/actions.

    (OST Liu Yu Ning)
    SWOONY ACTION Count (Ep 24)
MS had not changed the hair pin in the end and does not know what she’s thinking/feeling.

MS tries to justify it to SQ : “Orchid always says I’m superior, high and mighty, and don’t understand her heart. I don’t believe that if I don’t rely on the Heart Curse, I won’t understand what she’s thinking” (He frowns and sighs. Actually, I guess, he wanted to respect her wish for privacy. He loved her that much.)

Fairy is out walking with XR but everything reminds her of MS. She recalls how she had felt happy to get the attentions of CH long ago (in the Arbiter Hall), when he had praised her. She’d waxed lyrical on about the fireflies turning up, thinking that she was destined to be with CH. However MS who was listening to her at that time, practically smashed his tea cup onto the table in annoyance (he was already jealous from so long ago). The memory of MS of that time makes Fairy smile. MS in the present mistakes her smile to be because she has received the Firefly Stone and is upset. But Fairy sees MS and rushes away after him instead of staying on with XR. Unfortunately MS does not notice the significance of this action of hers. I guess she ran after him to ask him to watch the moon with her, but he was going to do so with Wan Qing.

SPOILER (Perhaps it’s also partly to make up for this, that later on at the Canglan Sea Moon Festival, MS plans to meet Fairy on the bridge to look at the full moon at its largest.)

    SWOONY LINE Count (ep 25)
MS : “You were so dumb and thought I would kill you. It’s weird. We’ve only known each other for three months, but I feel like I have known you for 30,000 years. I’ve seen you in Fairy clothes, in Moon Tribe clothes and in Mortal clothes. But the most beautiful on you is the wedding dress tonight.”
    He pours out the wine.
MS : “Although today’s wedding is fake, I am very happy. It’s like I’m really married.”

  160. Unnie,

The scene with the hairpin MS didn’t change was one of the scenes I rewatched last night! I was so happy for him, not being petty but letting her have her privacy. Yes, that is definitely a sign that he does love her deeply indeed.

I have to applaude Dylan Wang because the change in MS character is very imminent!
From the first episodes, to the body swaps and after his emotional tree is awakened, MS is so emotionally vulnerable and different. I love his portrayal so much. It is like MS is another person altogether!

I really enjoyed their conversation when they were drinking that wine after the fake weddings. They were both beautiful and the way he said so, it was beautiful said and done.

I have to say that Rong Hao is demoded in my eyes as a fool. He killed 3000 soldiers in order to poison MS with the evil qi. And he says he is doing it for Lady ChiDi?

I am also glad that Lord ChangHeng rebeled against his brother. He is indeed a fossil and he finds weaknesses where there is none. Do they have bad blood between them? I think he mentioned his mother in his accusations.

Anyway, after rewatching the opening credits last night, I think that I have to brace myself for heartbreak regarding our main OTP…

  161. Putting this here because I enjoyed reading her reviews when I was following the episodes.
    https://cyn-lynn.blogspot.com/2022/08/love-between-fairy-and-devil-recap-and.html

Embracing Fiction on Twitter wrote 2 articles on this drama that I have saved but not yet read but if anyone is interested can check it out here
    https://embracingfiction.wordpress.com/2022/09/04/cn-canglanjue/
    https://embracingfiction.wordpress.com/2022/09/19/cn-canglanjue2/

@Cleopatra, it was hard to watch the heartbreak, many tears were shed, so much longing yet the need to do so to protect the one they love. It can’t get any better. The immense sadness made their final ending most satisfying.

  162. Hey @Grace!

    I have found cyn-lynn’s blog as well… 😁😁😁

Thanks for the other links, I will check them at some point.

I saw the graphic and I realized that something will happen to Orchid. I bet the ending is satisfying indeed…!

P.S. I am glad for @nrllee and her notes on opening credits, because it reveals more if you pay attention. There are some clues!

  163. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks for the links @grace. I read part of the blog. Found it hilarious in parts.

Here’s the 1st impression review of the new Esther Yu show. Sounds promising too! I like that it’s light and a romance. I’m still in no mood for heavy stuff.

  164. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Lan_Lan-Subs takes the trouble to find and even edit out the instrumental BGM that cannot be found from the original, for the show. Much thanks and kudos to her!

She’s made a whole host of OST videos made with beautiful background pictures, with subs for the songs, and with reference to which episodes the BGM came from!!

    https://www.youtube.com/c/LanLan1920

I kind of like everything by Roc Chen that’s been selected for this show. 🙂 I have not listened to all of the BGM yet, but I hope the touching one when MS meets his dead father is among them.

  165. @GB Unnie Kalimera!

I have to listen to those OST videos! I found out that Esther Yu’s new show is up on Viki! There were 7 episodes on the platform last night.

P.S. I didn’t manage to watch any episodes on LBFD, but I will…*grins*

  166. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Cleo, I rewatched up to Ep 26, to the swoony scene *sigh*

Now that I’m trying to transcribe here and there, I see how well the Script is written. What was just some usual throw away lines in the past, crop up again with new meaning. This is really 1 show where I love the dialogue. There’s so much and most of it is sincere communication, true revelations, or show the changing attitudes.

BTW, since your’e up to the Episodes in the 20s already in the episodes, you can actually join a Saturday rewatch, if you have the time.

Friday we’ll be rewatching Ep 19 and 20. So if there’s another party on Saturday, it will be for Ep 21 and 22. Let me know if you can. I’ll put out the schedule a bit later. 🙂

  167. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

By the way @Cleo, please let me know by the end of next week if you think you can watch the first 3 episodes of Liar Game. Tentative start date is still 8 October 2022. 😁

  168. Unnie,

    I will try…

  169. Episode 26

I have to say that ChangHeng can be annoying at times…Orchid didn’t want to go back to the Fairy Land, so why did he say he will take her with him?
    No means no, dude!

At the same time, uri Moon Supreme loves uri Orchid very much! I was so happy that he went to talk to her, but got interrupted by his sworn brother… – I rewatched that scene twice @GB Unnie! He was so sincere to her about his feelings for Lan Hua!

P.S. Here is Ella’s FMV for this couple!

  170. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Ahhh thanks @Cleo. Ella really did a very nice one for LBFD. I prefer it to lots of others, even better than some of the iQiyi ones.

About CH, IKR… I was lambasting him for his lack of respect for her wishes. Well in the end, the guys had to ‘learn’ to respect her and they did. DFQC was a faster learner than CH, LOL.

Anyway, with CH repeatedly saying nonsensical stuff like he’s come to take Fairy back, I can’t blame DFQC for acting possessive in front of CH. He deliberately grabbed her with one arm. The boys are just so petty! I liked the part where he ad libbed and asked for the music score which surprised the other actors. But Esther handed him the music score and controlled her laughter.

  171. Unnie,

I have heard about that adlib myself! LOL

Yes DFQC is a fast learner, but CH deliberately does that in order to anger him. I mean what CH told him about the Moon Tribe was awful. He fully knows as well, that they are / were not bad.

I was sad when I was listening to the lament, mostly because DFQC was vulnerable and felt like he was lacking in front of his people.

As for his brother, he needs to chill out and understand that Orchid has stood for The Moon Supreme far more than all the others included, with the exception of the Black Dragon!

  172. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo,
Yes, CH was probably trying to provoke DFQC. It’s funny, on the one hand they know that they can trust each other but they do so, so unwillingly, so they must put up a cold front, childishly insult and find fault with each other. In the end the best examples of not all Moon Tribe or all SYT people being bad were right there in the both of them and in Fairy. In fact with Jie Li and Shang Que, the examples of there being good Haishi people, good dragons, good fairies and good Moon Tribe people were all represented!

DFQC really had such a strong sense of responsibility towards his people. You’ll see it in the later episodes. This is one of the first shows where I see the top guy willingly take on punishment instead of finding fault with his subordinates. I felt that he actually took on more than he should have. DFQC as the boss trumps all the chaebol bosses in recent shows, both in the generous boss department and in the area of romance.

I never trusted Xun Feng. I felt he should have been called out more and been punished more.

As for Shang Que… I keep wondering where he is when MS is alone and fighting. I guess DFQC just left SQ behind and never told him where he was most of the time, but in Yun Meng, I expected to see more of SQ. In the end he only came to the rescue once in Yun Meng. 🤔 🙄

  173. Unnie,

The bias around each other is so strong, when they know they should let the stigma out of their “friendship”. It is not easy to do, but Orchid was right. She had to stomp her feet and more in order to make them stop bickering!

I think that the fact the writernim made the Moon Supreme unable to feel in the beginning, because of what his father did in order to control Hellfire.

The change in him started to happen when Orchid came to the picture. She managed to revive his emotional tree and the revealing part of me is that the Moon Supreme was a supressed empath. That’s why DFQC has a strong sense of responsibility.

He truly feels for them, like it happened to his immediate family or himself. We saw that in several scenes, not only with Orchid but towards his brother XunFeng, when he took the remaining lighting strikes for him.

I think that although XunFeng has a weird aura around him, he is still afraid of his brother.

As for SQ, I think that DFQC doesn’t tell him where he goes and if MS is with Orchid, SQ gives them space. SQ is one of my favorite second characters.

The way SQ is love with Jieli, while she is not letting him near her, except for her own benefit.

They have lived some 30.000+ years and in matters of the heart they are infants…LOL!

  174. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo
About MS being an empath. I did wonder a time or two, how he sort of guessed that something was going on with Fairy Orchid. But he was not near her at those times, so he could not ‘read’ her body language. He was also wearing the You Jade Ring and she was wearing the Hairpin. However he seemed to know and he asked Jie Li for confirmation. So I don’t know, but he might have been an empath since he felt with his people.

I was thinking that it was a pity Jie Li’s backstory was told in short bits and only towards the end. She was actually a pretty important 2nd or 3rd Lead Character. Her street-smarts, her wit, ploys and tricks were phenomenal. Beside her, all the other were such dull, proper citizens, unable to come up with a plan to bring Xiao Run and Wan Qing together.

SQ was so funny. He was jealous that he wasn’t the dumbest one for Jie Li, as if it was something to be proud of. He really was a sweet dragon.

  175. How are you doing, @GB? Do you need a new rewatch thread open? What episode are you all on now?

    Pm3

  176. Unnie,

I agree with you that Jieli’s arc should be shown little by little when they were in Lucheng. I am not there, but I have seen bits and bytes about her. SQ is a sweet dragon indeed.

As for the Moon Supreme, I think it also has to do with their sharing Heart Curse. He is an empath and maybe intuitive towards her and from their bond he could understand more. Maybe in the book it is explained better…

  178. Updated the thread, @GB.

I moved the thread up. I don’t want it sinking further down when I open more posts.

  179. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

How lovely @pkml3!! Thanks so much! I forgot that you can move threads around on the right frame. That’s great. I, too was fearing that the thread would sink and disappear.

Thanks so much for giving us this space to ‘play’ and watch together. It makes viewing and reviewing so much more enjoyable with other folks. It means so much to me. As you can guess, I haunt this blog LOL.

Some time next week, I believe, we can confirm when our Liar Game Rewatch Party will begin. I’ve heard from @WEnchanteur who loved the series, and I believe @salteddust, hopefully @Cleo and @FGB will be joining that party.

I’ll do up a schedule and leave it on one of the threads for you.

I hope you’re not too busy to catch some shows,…preferably ones that brighten your day!! 😜 😆

Take care and God bless you!

  180. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

  184. I’m a bit late to this. Is it still active? I’ve only just discovered this wonderful show, and character.

  185. Ask @GB. She’s the leader of the LBFD threads. 😂😂

  186. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Lucy, I believe you are enjoying LBFD now, as we did last year. It’s a rare costume xian xia cdrama that will get me so invested as LBFD did.

This and the other LBFD threads are open for as long as @packmule3 does not close off the comments section. She’s the real boss of the threads and immensely generous in letting me run riot over shows that I want to comment on.

The rewatches, of course are over, but you’re welcome to keep coming here to comment on the episodes as you watch them. There may be a few souls like myself who will come by to read you and respond if we have anything to share.

If you’d like to know what we’ve been saying about the episodes at first and on our rewatches, please come by our chat on the threads. There are 11 threads to read and hopefully, enjoy.

Here’s the link to the first of the threads:
    https://bitchesoverdramas.com/2022/08/19/love-between-fairy-and-devil-eps-1-to-4-first-impressions/

Let us know how you’re liking the show. It was one of my faves last year!
