  1. Kalispera @Packmule3!

Let us enjoy the show! I do hope that Hong Sisters will do it justice…

  2. Light and Shadow. We are forewarned. Good and evil. Transparency and secrecy. It is as it seems vs. obfuscation.

I suspect we need to pay particular attention to color palate and cinematic lighting as we watch this season of AoS. The director and the Hong sisters may not seem so literal about the title, yet costuming, set design, lighting, and camera filters are all used to tell the story along with the actors and their dialogue.

  3. While I thought I could wait and watch all 10 eps at once (yeah lol even I now realize how overly idealistic I was), it seems like I’m resigning myself to another 5 weeks of eagerly waiting for the weekends and AOS brain rot.

Watched ep21 and felt sucked right back into all the feels. It felt wonderfully comforting to “visit with” familiar, loved characters and be back in that world.

Still processing, but so far really enjoyed catching all the parallels. Spoilers ahead.

here are a few mirrored scenes in the order I remember them, not necessarily the order the aired in:

    1. In S1 Uk discovers the blue mark in her eyes. Now, it’s BuYeon/ChoYeong (BYCY for short – also who is she really? Eager to see what BOD theorizes) who spots the ice stone inside Uk.

    2. Our fav ep 10 boat & bridge scene – this time it’s BYCY in the boat and Uk on the bridge.

    3. S1 Uk wanted her help to unlock his powers and train, now, as the most powerful mage in all of Daeho, he wants her help to remove the ice stone (source of his immense powers, which is keeping him alive).

    4. S1 Uk keeps asking Naksu for help, now it’s BYCY is chasing Uk to help her.

    5. Naksu was the “shadow” personality in S1, as the ruthless assassin, and Uk was the ray of sunshine. Now, they’ve switched. BYCY is all light and happiness and Uk is the tortured ruthless slayer of soul shifters.

    6. S1 Naksu (in MD’s body) rejected the boiled chicken at first before tasting it and discovering she found it really tasty. Now in S2 she smells something delicious, spots the chicken and asks to eat it.

Other things that stood out were the convos between Master Lee and uri CP, and between CP and Uk when he goes to drop off the rewards. Really open, honest dialogues that show CPs character. He’s wise and perceptive, I like his self-awareness.

I have a lot of open Qs but mainly who exactly is BYCY? Why is BY in Naksu’s body? And why does CY’s body now have BY’s energy seeing/sensing abilities?

  4. i can relate so much, MrsRJH1 🥲 so hard to wait for all 10 episodes.

also eager to find out who is BYCY! i wish i didn’t watch previews, and wonder if the reveal will be anything like the previews suggest (i.e. jin mu may have played a role), or previews are not to be trusted as usual.

i am also looking forward to CP’s character arc, not being a clear hero/villain so to speak

  5. Welcome to the blog, @Dreamingdrama. Hope you’ll enjoy your stay here. I’ve only begun accepting new posters to the blog. 🙂

  6. Great comments, @RJH1. Glad you noticed the parallel scenes. 🙂

  7. thank you @packmule3! i have been lurking maybe the past month or two. might have landed on this blog while reading up on the king: eternal monarch and hospital playlist.

i am usually a lurker as it actually takes me a while to process things and articulate observations, but something about the new season of alchemy of souls makes me want to try to join in on the fun!

  8. I am currently watching the first episode and I am at this part where I got annoyed.

I haven’t read any comments yet, the only thing I want to say – for now- is that Master Lee said it all and then Jang Uk.

Tomorrow I will write my thoughts on how I perceived this continuation.

  9. @MrsRJH1,

To continue with the mirrored scenes…

    7. Her ability to drink

In the first scene in Ep 2, Naksu asks for liquor from the delivery boy. She appears to tolerate it well.

In Season 1, Naksu was annoyed that MuDeok’s body couldn’t handle liquor. (She couldn’t stand the smell of cinammon either.) In Ep 5, when she got drunk after drinking with the CP, she told Uk, “My body will not move like I want it to. I can’t even keep my head up either. It was never this bad before, no matter how much I would drink.” Uk said, “You’re no longer a skilled assassin. You’re MuDeok now.” She scoffed, “So, this body can’t even handle liquor.”

And Uk carried her off to the boat to go back to the wilds.

Then, in Episode 20, she had a drinking session with Maidservant Kim. Maidservant Kim thought it was funny that she lost her satoori/provincial accent when she was drunk. Naksu also said she could fly to the roof and wield Naksu’s sword. Jang Uk carried her off before she revealed her true identity.

Then, while she was drunk, she confessed her feelings to Uk. And it was prophetic.

Uk: Mudeok, don’t drink again. You’ll tell everyone that you are actually Naksu.
Naksu: HuH. I have something to tell you.
Uk: Sleep now. Tell me tomorrow.
Naksu: I must say it now. What if I do not tell you and then I die tomorrow?

Did she just have a premonition of her death?

UK: Fine, tell me. Before you die, go on. Tell me.
Naksu: Jang Uk, I like you a lot.

She kissed him then fell asleep.

Uk: Oh Oh I see. And now, it’s bedtime. YOu do that and just fall asleep. I need to tell her what Master Lee told me.

It’s interesting that the first scene we see of Naksu in Season 2, she drinks like her old self.

  10. Mirrored scenes

    8. Entering high-security grounds

In Season 1, Naksu entered Songrim.

Uk trapped them both inside the Secret Room until Naksu agreed to become his master. Only Uk knew the way out of the Secret Room.

She attacked him, almost stabbing his neck, with a crab leg.

    She fell off the ledge.

In Season 2, Uk entered Jinyowon, uninvited.

He found Naksu trapped in a secret annex. She already had figured out a way out but she need Uk to finish it.

She tried to defend herself with a fire poker.

    She got out safely.

    9. Offer of marriage

    Season 1, beginning Ep 2

    Naksu: Which was?
Uk: I have been searching for someone who can break this spell to call my master. And then I found you. (taking a closer step) Naksu. I want you to be my master.
Naksu: (her turn to scoff) The son of Jang Gang of Songrim is asking me, an assassin, to be his master? What original nonsense.
Uk: You will open your pupil’s gate of energy and help him master spells. As your pupil, I will keep you safe and hidden. We could form a beautiful relationship where we benefit from each other.
    Naksu: Not interested.
Uk: If you do not want to be my master, you could be my wife instead. Would you like that?
    Naksu: Shut it!

Then, in Season 2, Naksu asked him to marry her.

Naksu: I should find husband who suits me instead. Speaking of which, Jang Uk, will you marry me?
    Uk: What?
Naksu: I want you to be my husband.

  11. Mirrored scenes

    10. She’s beautiful, he’s crazy

In Season 1, Uk called her beautiful. She thought he was crazy.

    Uk: You have beautiful eyes.
    Naksu: (flustered) Cut the nonsense!
Uk: Right, sorry. Only your eyes are beautiful.
    Naksu: You must be crazy.

But then, she gave him the poison to force the Mages to open his gate, and she was whipped. He called her crazy after that.

In Season 2, he keeps calling her crazy. No mention of her being beautiful. She knows she’s beautiful anyway.

Naksu: (asks him to marry her)
Uk: We only met once, but you want me to marry you? You must be out of your mind. I should have never helped you escape.
Naksu: I am not out of my mind. You are strong enough to go against my mother. You are strong enough to go against my mother. And you have bad blood with Jinyowon. If we get married, she might kick me out. That is exactly what I want.

    That’s another thing…

    11. Family relationship

In Season 1, he needed her help to become a mage, enter Songrim, be recognized as the son of Jang Gang, take over Cheongbugwan.

In Season 2, she needs her help to be kicked out of her home/prison, get away from Lady Jin (who’s really not her mother)

  12. Oooh fantastic catches as always @PM3! All fantastic mirrored scenes.

    This might be another one:

In s1, Uk would be the one to tell MD to raise her eyes and make eye contact with him – he did it in ep 2 right before Seo Yul catches them. Then he did it in ep 7/8 (IIRC) when MD thinks he switched bodies with Gilju – he urges her to look into his eyes.

In S2 ep 1, when BYCY and Uk are at the restaurant and she’s bringing up marriage, she used the same line to him, look in my eyes. She’s pushing the eye contact this time.

I’ll rewatch this weekend’s eps again during the week to digest additional details.

  13. Kalimera Ladies,

Yes, Part 2 started with a bang. Did I like it? Yes and no.

We got at once three years later and everything seems to be…frozen in Daeho. Everone is at odds with everyone and there is a surge of soul shifters.

How does that happen when the Soul Ejector is destroyed? Some soul shifters are older cases, while others are news. So this is an issue they need to explain to us.

Jang Uk is killing all the soul shifters in the name of the Royal Palace and the Uninamimous Committee and getting paid for it.

The first sequence that annoyed me was the one with the Crown Prince and Master Lee. I am glad that Master Lee told him to his face what he did to Uk with the help of his beloved Master Jin Mu. (sic)

The other one was the scene with the Cousins: The Crown Prince and Jang Uk and how the CP being blunt and not sugarcoat him. I am glad that Jang Uk talked about vigor and told him why he is doing what he is doing.

Were there mirror scenes with season 1? Yes there were. Jang Uk continues to be unwanted. In Part 1 his gate of energy was closed. Three years later he is considered a monster who kills monster and not the King Star’s.

The fight sequences are way better than Part 1 and we see that lot of things has changed in matter of strenght.

Our theory that Jang Uk has reached Hwansu like Master Lee did was correct.

Now, let’s go to the matter at hand. “Jin Bu Yeon” is living in the body of Cho Yeong / Naksu’s. Her mother has her locked and she is tracked by a bracelet. She is oblivious to many things, but she is smart.

And here are the things that need to be explained or else a huge plothole is on the way.

They ended Season 1 with that cliffhanger, in a way where we left wanted for more answers. Episode 1 delivered none.

I want to know: How Cho Yeong / Naksu’s body magically reappeared since they showed us it was burned in the earlier episodes in Part 1.

And the thing that doesn’t make any sense:

They call her ” Jin Bu Yeon ” but as the Jin Matriarch said: the original soul had died when they found the body three years ago”.

So, If what they said was right and Jin Bu Yeon’s soul had died three years ago, how is it possible that they extracted the other soul and put it to the body of Cho Yeong / Naksu’s that got burned in a pyre?

If the girl is Cho Yeong and they have brainwashed her to be Jin Bu Yeon, I am waiting for an answer on how Cho Yeong has divine powers, like BuYeon had? How did that happen? This is an inconsistency.

The part where we get no answers about what happened three years ago in a body that two souls were inhibiting it, for me is a hot potato and already has confused some people that the girl we are watching is Bu Yeon in Cho Yeong’s body.

At least, we got the wedding they denied us in Part 1. Everything that happened between “Bu Yeon” and Jang Uk has a deeper meaning.

Let us see what the Jin Matriarch will do from now on, along with Jin Mu.

  14. I just watched Ep 2 (after Ep 1 last night). It feels like a trainwreck I can’t look away from… An entertaining one hopefully!

I did notice the mirroring, and it’s quite nicely done. Everyone’s actions in the past 3 years also seem consistent with how they’ve behaved so far (except maybe Master Lee – what was that favour to Mdm Jin for?). The explanation for the body/soul situation so far feels like it’s stretching the limits of credulity.

Go Yoon-jung, while winsome, does not show enough nuance yet.

The queen seems to be a new antagonist, and 90% of all problems would be solved by the removal of Jin Mu, but I guess nobody wants to do that till the last 15 min.

Oh well… at least it’s just 10 eps. And Lee Jae Wook’s performance is still excellent!

  15. Serious question. Have you ever watched a Hong Sisters’ drama that isn’t a train wreck?

Me. I rate the level of destruction or audience devastation at the ending,
    with 1 for “so-so,”
    3 for “eye-rolling”
5 for “usual gnashing of teeth”
7 for “I’ll never watch another Hong sisters drama again”
    10 for “Can I have a lobotomy?”

They just can’t finish the job.

  16. Should I accept the explanation they gave us for having Cho Yeon’s / Naksu’s body? The good thing is that I was pretty sure Hwansu was involved one way or another… *grins*

    Decisions, decisions, decisions.

  17. @L I’m with you on how the whole body/soul dynamics are stretching the limits of credulity.

In fact, I think, the first 2 episodes are falling flat. In terms of acting and story both. Right now everything feels convoluted but it actually is only Amnesia in hindsight. I feel the Hong sisters can do better considering these episodes also lack the spark of the intro episodes of AOS part 1. Let’s see where it goes from here.

GYJ is lacking nuance yes. There’s something wrong with her line delivery it feels out of place. And yes I’ll never understand why is Jin Mu still there despite everyone knowing he started the soul shifting buisness.

  18. @Cleoptra I don’t why but it feels like a last minute explanation because they couldn’t sign up Jung So Min for second season lol.
With whatever they are going for, they could’ve as well kept her.

  19. Hey @waps!

Good to see you! I was talking to a friend of mine and I said that Hwansu is needed and only Master Lee and Jang Uk are in that level at the moment.

Am I okay with the explanation? Yes and no.

    @Everyone,
What did we find out? Here is the explanation they’ve got for us:

Naksu’s energy source transformed BuYeon’s petrified body to Naksu’s, so the divine powers affinity is in the now transformed BuYeon’s / Mudeok’s body, while Naksu’s powers are dormant. So, we have a merge… o.O

I was pretty sure that Master Lee was involved, but I strongly cannot stand the Jin Matriarch for everything she has done in Part 1 and Part 2. She locked up her daughter and she cut her from everyone.

I am glad that the Jin Matriarch is afraid of Master Lee and his wrath.

Also, Jang Uk coming to the rescue was my favorite scene from tonight’s episode.

  20. @Warz,

BTH I really like the Yoon Jung. It is like watching silly Jang Uk from Part 1, “BuYeon” / Cho Yeong is the other side of a coin in Part 2…

  21. Hi all! Just watched ep 2, and my immediate thoughts were:

    1. Lamest explanation ever for the BY/Naksu body/soul swap thing. Highly incredulous and also anti-climactic. Just like Jang Gang’s return was such a damn squib.

    2. Seo Yul talks of regretting past inaction yet once again is passive and inactive. And how doesn’t he remember Naksu’s face???

    3. Soyi of all people is the only one who said the name MuDeok.

    4. Sorry but I’m not really feeling GYJ’s acting. She sticks out with her acting inexperience and her character – there’s very little to tie her back to who she was when she was in MD’s body.

    5. This feels like a show I enjoy more due to the nostalgic factor of remembering how great S1 was (for the most part) but Im worried it’s not living up to that quality of writing.

    6. Why does Jin Mu still have power? Ridiculous.

I still love seeing my fav characters and Uk is oh-so-sexy in his new powerful avatar. And I’m defo watching it all, just resigning myself to another terrible Hong sister ending.

  22. @MrsRJH1 I can’t agree more with each point. I will alongside you complete the show but the start has been very flat that I don’t have much hope for the rest either.
I wish they hadn’t chosen this reverse aproach rather had moved the story forward from where it left. This whole confusion with Naksu and Uk I feel will be left lukewarm as there are few episodes and they also have to fight the big evil. I fail to understand the need for repeating the earlier episodes with reversed roles. Hmmm, the show isn’t compelling so far.

@Cleopatra you make a good point with Hwansu. I guess this is also why BYCY’s powers work alongside JU. He is the support she needs. Maybe in this case they are again hinting at part 1 and how Naksu needed JU to gain his powers so she can gain hers too. I hope in the long run they go back to this because it will make sense.

  23. in part 1 the switch from naksu to naksu in mudeok’s body felt believable, so hopefully GYJ is able to draw from the character nuances established in part 1 for the remaining episodes

also, what does everyone think of the costume design and contemporary/historical/fantasy mashup? i saw elsewhere that a viewer thought part 1 felt like each actor’s stylists didn’t communicate and just did their own thing.

i’m not familiar with fantasy vs historical drama conventions, so i don’t have thoughts yet, just observing/studying their costumes in relation to the storyworld.

  24. You’re Beautiful and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho stayed fairly true to their initial premise despite the messy unnecessary issues (filled with tropes galore) before the resolution. Best Love was fun but Master’s Sun was less interesting though there were also fun bits. Hotel del Luna was decent, if not a little bloated, but I steered clear of Warm and Cosy, Big, and Hwayugi. So they can make fun dramas but need seriously tighter editing. It’s like JK Rowling – the first 3 HP books were good, but the next 4 were just unnecessarily bloated cos she had become commercially viable.

  25. Hi!
@wapz I am with you. The new lady is cute but something is missing. Some parts are nice and fun but the first two episodes didn’t hit where it was supposed to hurt.
My favourite sequence was: Uk pouring alcohol over the soul shifter and stopping on Naksu’s mention.
@packmule3 your observation (last one) in the other entry: he feels as though he is killing her(feels guilty) everyone he does his gig for the palace (you framed it better) — feels right. I wish they would make it more explicit. Like how did he go from protect them from the world to kill them for protecting the world. I didn’t agree with his policy but that shift has to be shown. After all he loved a soul shifter.

Also, maybe it is just me but he isn’t as stand offish and holding world at Bay as much as I thought he would.

  26. Kalimera Ladies!

    @wapz,

The hybrid Jin BuYeon / Cho Yeong aka Naksu has to be in the same level as Jang Uk. Of course he will be the one who will unlock her powers. Because if you have seen, she is manifesting her powers when Uk is involved / around. Because she may not remember for now, but her soul does remember Uk, she loves him as well.

  27. So, after watching Episodes 1&2 and after rewatching some specific scenes,
    here are my thoughts:

    1. Go Yoon Jung is good in her role as Cho Yeong.

She has chemistry both with Jang Uk and Seo Yul and we are going to see the same with the Crown Prince. So, I am not saying anything about her after two episodes. Jung So Min had 20 episodes to show her caliber. I am welcoming GYJ and I am happy with her acting so far.

    2. The Hong Sisters decided to give us a weird explanation about what happened with Jin Bu Yeon / MuDeok + Cho Yeong / Naksu.

So, as Master Lee revelead to us. The avatar Mudeok was petrifed to its core, BUT the energy flow of Naksu’s soul was keeping it alive and Jin BuYeon’s soul was clinging to its energy.

So the Jin Matriarch had to decide:

If she would keep Jin Bu Yeon’s soul and consequently her body would die along with Naksu’s soul.
    OR
To keep Cho Yeong’s / Naksu’s soul in order to save Jin BuYeon’s body.

So that makes the now so called “Jin BuYeon” a HYBRID.

The body belongs to Jin BuYeon, but the energy flow of Cho Yeong’s / Naksu’s Soul trasformed the face into Naksu’s.

In order to make Naksu equivalent to Jang Uk, they made her a hybrid that holds both divine powers from Jin BuYeon and the powers we do know and we don’t know from Cho Yeong / Naksu.

    The problem is the following:

How come the body of Jin BuYeon holds its divine powers? We saw that the older mages were changing bodies, BECAUSE they needed a better body to perform their magic.

So, in part 1 the Soul had the powers that were manifesting in the new body, while in Part 2 we get to see that the body has memory of its owner’s powers as well.

I am talking about Jin BuYeon’s body here. Since this one hasn’t happened before, it means this choice is a plot hole.

Hong Sister’s resolution is an oxymoron that contradicts what we know about in this world so far.

You can accept or you can challenge it.
I belong to the second type. I am challenging this new information that contradicts the soul shifting world building of Part 1.

Of course, I will continue to watch the show, but that doesn’t mean I am not going to pinpoint bad writing when I see it.

That’s all I wanted to say for now…

  28. Ella is back!

Here is the latest FanMade Video for AoS:L&S

  29. Hi @MrsRJH1
I agree with all your points too (sorry I missed your comment earlier as was reading on mobile). It was sad that Mudeok is forgotten by everyone but Soyi.
I don’t care about BY or the entire priestess hype. Naksu as MD was fun while Naksu as the lady with no memory is just a typical damsel in distress and boring? Am I being too judgemental? I should stop thinking about AoS and its characters.

Btw, I am watching for angst and tears 🙂
If Uk and Naksu reunion does not make me cry, I will give up.

At this point (and for some time) I have been trying to guess:

    – Who will die?
    – ending and probabilities: 70% this will have a happy ending, 20% Daeho will cease to exist as Uk and Yeong die together, 5 percent open ending and 5% I can’t guess.

@L my first Hong Sister’s (and probably the first kdrama) was Master’s Sun. I enjoyed it a lot for being funny and then after episode 11 or was it 12, it was a mess. Hotel Del Luna: I liked the concept but the female character development/arc! I think they do relationship building and bickering nicely, which is why I started AoS. I also love people’s theories and reading global readings of symbols in their dramas. It is not often that one finds something nice to pull apart and examine layer by layer.

  30. transferring @Noone’s comment here –pm3

    ******************

    She literally toes the line…

So I was thinking and realized that she does justify why she does this:
-Because of the bracelet she can’t run away.
-She really believes that her sin is so bad that she needs to atone by staying inside the room.

Somehow, I would have preferred if she had accepted the second fact after trying to test the waters but… they don’t hint at that. They basically show someone who loves her mom and cares about Jin Mom’s feelings.

I guess everything is in place but I am biased towards the new avatar of the female character. I really thought this season she would maybe become a more rounded character while what I got was a cute princess with an innocent heart. She is atoning for her sins but not in the conventional manner. We literally will get a fairy tale where the dark Prince rescues the locked in princess and also saves the world.

Anyway, I will stop thinking now.
Gracias ati para todos los piensamentos.

    *************

@Noone I totally agree with your take and I think this has remained consistent since Part 1. I found myself agreeing to many of your comments.

There is certainly a disconnect from part 1 due to the time jump. I thought it would’ve been a better idea to continue from where they left. I didn’t watch the trailers so idk what we had to expect from JU. At least he is not angry or scary, he is simply weary and tired as you say. In fact, I don’t even think he’s that heartbroken, that’s where the disconnect comes in.

I feel the same for Naksu. While I do have an issue with GYJ’s line delivery (it doesn’t flow naturally and I’ve noticed that a lot in rookie actors that are experimenting with different roles, I think her line delivery was pretty good as Naksu, so maybe that kind of role suits her more), she can improve that along the way, there are clear issues with editing as you point out.

I’m hoping it doesn’t turn out to become the fairy tale you are hinting at, but it seems like it’s going there.

Also, I can’t believe that Yul, Park Jin and Dr Heo would not recognize her. If I’m not wrong, they kept her body for a while before Jin Mu burnt it.

    *****************
I wish they hadn’t used Cho Yeon and Cho Yeong in the same show. Maybe the Hangul(?) is different for these so the Korean speaking viewers are not as confused. But gosh I am. And now the two are also sisters. I’d rather go by calling her Naksu for now for my own convenience lol.

I have been wanting to point out (maybe someone else already has) that for Naksu, “Cho” is her last name. For Cho Yeon, “Jin” is her last name.

It’s actually been helpful for me to switch between English and Chinese subtitles to try to catch potential nuances (only started doing that recently).

    In Chinese:

    Cho, Yeong = 趙縈
    Jin, Cho Yeon = 陳超妍

In Cantonese, “Yeong” and “Yeon” still basically sound the same, based on how they translated it (jing4 for those who speak canto) 😅 but “Cho” sounds different for each character.

Often times for historical korean dramas, we might see hanja, which uses chinese characters. If I remember correctly, I think in this storyworld they mostly use hangul, so we might not see their names written out in non-phonetic form.

Sharing anyway in case anyone is interested.

    **************

I’m at loss here because maybe I don’t remember well. So do the people know that JU is King’s Star or do they still believe it’s the CP?
Moreover, I’m unable to gather why is Jin Mu still in close proximity to the Royals when they all know he was behind the Queen getting soul shifted? Or is there still some kind of confusion around it and the Royal family believes it was only the Choi siblings.

Again this should be on the OT, I guess but I just happened to read the comments above about CP so I thought it’s the same discussion.

  35. To answer your question re. Jin Mu, @wapz —

Technically, people did NOT know that he was “behind the Queen getting soul shifted.”

    From Ep 20.

The real Queen only had contact with Shaman Cho and her brother. She might have had contact with the Eunuch, but he was already dead.

Park Jin tricked the Queen/Shaman Choi to reveal that she was a soulshifter when he threw the supposedly ashes of Gwiju on her.

The Queen/Shaman Choi then glanced at Jin Mu, expecting to defend her but he remained silent.

Park Jin then ordered the guards to arrest the pretender. The charge? Using the Alchemy of Souls to switch with the Queen’s body.

Park Jin continued to expose Shaman Choi as belonging to the Clan Choi who caused the Great Chaos. He blamed her for creating the Soul Ejectors. According to him, she also brought the ice stone at the Unanimous Assembly. He said that the brother and sister Choi fooled all the mages. They introduced the fake Jin BuYeon because they planned to shift Shaman Choi’s body into the fake BuYeon’s body.

Park Jin didn’t include Jin Mu in his indictment. He blamed everything on Shaman Choi.

Then Shaman Choi defended herself. She denounced the mages present at the assembly: Lady Jin, Park Jin, and Jin Mu.

She reserved her last bitter words for Jin Mu, saying “And you, Jin Mu, Why do you simply stand there doing nothing? According to the logic and rules of a world built by such people, am I the only one who’s wicked?”

Jin Mu then backstabbed her. He said, “To make logic and rules, you must possess power. But you have lost that power, so you are as they said, ‘wicked.’”

She replied, “As expected, Jin Mu, you truly are a coward who runs away with his tail between his legs.”

He further distanced himself from his previous ally when he commanded, “Hand over your remaining Soul Ejector. I will use it to return Her Highness’ body and let you die without becoming petrified. This is the only way you can save your beloved younger brother.”

So no. As far as the Palace is concerned, Jin Mu was never directly involved in the Queen/Shaman Choi’s soul-switch. He even urged her to turn herself in.

Slippery as eel. That’s our Jin Mu.

Cho Yeong/Naksu is the one who should take him down.

  36. @Wapz,

Regarding your question about the King’s Star, everyone still believes that the Crown Prince is the King’s Star. While on the other hand Jang Uk is simply a monster…

Master Lee commented on this, when they were drinking tea with the Crown Prince, after he demanded the CP to go and pay homage and award Jang Uk for killing another soul shifter.

The only ones who truly know that Jang Uk is the King’s Star is:

The Crown Prince, Master Lee, Park Jin, Maidservant Kim and Naksu / Cho Yeong who has now lost her memories.
The only ones who know Jang Uk’s soul father is the Late King are Park Jin and Kim Do Joo.

    @Everyone,

    Body and Blood Vs Soul.

Here is what we know about Jang Uk’s bloodline. I have revisited this aspects in “My Theories” back in Part 1.

Jang Uk is a great Mage because his body and blood father was the genius Mage Jang Gang, who deserted him and closed his gate of energy.
His Soul father is also the late King, that didn’t have Magical powers at all.
His paternal figure is Park Jin, who was there for him emotionally.

Jang Uk’s mother is the late Do-Hwa who didn’t know the hubris her husband Jang Gang committed. She is also a victim. Jang Gang made her an adulteress when HE WAS THE ONE AT FAULT!
Jang Uk’s maternal figure is Kim Do Joo. He is kind and straightforward like her.

So, genes worked their magic in this part.

I am aware that a conversation has already started about Body / Blood vs Soul, after the revelation in Episode 2 regarding Cho Yeong. So, we need to present facts and try to find a logical answer when it is not cleared at some points by the Hong Sisters.

  37. Just finished Episodes 1 and 2 and found them very engaging. I have no problem with the new actress and the amnesiac Naksu in her old body did make sense.
The shallow ahjumma in me also appreciated DangGu’s new look.

  38. I thought episode 1 and 2 were engaging. I can’t wait till Naksu gets her power back too. They will be the most powerful couple then. But of course, the point for now is JU wants to get rid of his powers by using Naksu.

I’ll enjoy the ride since it’s only 10 episodes. 🙂
