Although you could report for booty if you were a privateer back in the day. Some of them were all but pirates. That’s what I’ve heard about Sir Francis Drake, in any event, who was from the area where I live. Under prize money law, broadly, privateers were allowed to keep or sell enemy or illegal ships they captured and the contents as well, except for 10-20% of the value, which went to the crown. This was also true of neutral ships that might be carrying cargo to supply an enemy. The neutral ships and normal cargo were exempt. A naval officer and his crew could only keep 50% of enemy ships and cargo, although the navy might keep the ship to use for itself if it was good.

Yes, the continuing distance between the OTP is what frustrated me in this drama when I watched it before. I’m not saying full speed ahead, get married tomorrow, but also not go into reverse.

Personally, I think I’ve seen my favourite bits now. I liked the relationship of Xin Keyao and Dr Shao, but not enough to watch 40 episodes. I find the other secondary and teriary relationships just not necessary to the story. I’m ready to leave it here.

There are some good scenes later but I tend to agree that we have seen the best bits of the show and it is a long series to go through for the sake of those scenes.

I liked that the anonymous rescuer and XK have merged. Also that he was frank that he recognised her at the seminar, but liked her from the very first moment they met.
You hear about people who feel that way about their partners – the immediate lightbulb moment, but I think it’s rare, not reciprocated or it doesn’t last.
I’ll pop a note about this in the Georgette Heyer thread before I forget!
