101 Comments On “Queen and I (2012): Ep 13 Rewatch Sat, Nov 18”

  1. @Pm3, Hi. I send you an email for Diva thread password. 😉

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @pkml3! How nice and early!

Hi @WE, You’re really into Castaway Diva!! I will only have energy for it, maybe at the end of November.

    See you tomorrow!!

  3. @GB, however, I didn’t rewatch episode 3-6 yet. 😉

  4. Is he telling us to enjoy the watch?

  5. @MM, not with such a face. I think he answers to this question:
    – What are you going to do?
    – Poop. 💩

  6. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi All, I’m in and out… feeling sleepy and am still preparing for my ‘training’ week. I rewatched Ep 13 in parts but did not catch some of it. I may need to spend more time watching instead of commenting!!! That is if I’m awake. 🥱😴🤤😪🥴

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

It’s 10pm my time!!! Where’s everyone? I thought I was the one who might not make it tonight.

    We start NOW!!!

  8. Hi GB, it’s late for you, can’t we do the rewatch a bit before?

  9. Hi @GB. Ran a little late. I am here.

  10. Ok, i’m joining too.

  11. The ginsaeng is in love with BD, isn’t it?

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @WE, I’d like to but I am thinking of those who may be waking up extra early.

    I’ll manage.

Yoon Wol is daring to express her disapproval at last. I pity her. Her love and sincerity backfired for her.

  13. Hi SD,
She plays angry, I think she loves him and don’t want to see him going away.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @SD!

Ditzy FL calls herself the most beautiful woman in the world to the tut-tutting of Jo.

  15. Remembering last week and watching the very beginning of this week. I would have thought monks have privacy Ethics. It does lead to a very important conversation for the drama though. He totally misses that she might be romantically interested in him. And that’s why she’s feeling this way. Or he just does not want to acknowledge it. Meanwhile hj is happily mating cell phones. EMBOCAY!

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yes, Yoon Wol admitted later that she did love BD (without any hope of him returning the feelings). The story was ‘unfair’ to this one particular character. She was a side character but necessary to the plot until she wasn’t… and then was terminated.

  17. Welcome to the blog, @Bongi.

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Bongi, welcome to BOD and our Rewatch party!! Just comment as you watch and we’ll read you.

  19. Hi Bongi!! Welcome. 😉
You are Nakayla on MDL, right?

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    You’re fast @pkml3!! I just saw @Bongi’s post.

  21. Hi @MM @GB @WE @SD @Bongi.

  22. @GB. It seems she is mostly in this story to explain his back story and the back story to the tallisman. I usually think of this as poor storytelling when they have to resort to an extraneous character Who is not developed, to move plot along.

  23. Current screentime: 08:00

  24. Hi FF, everybody here today, even Pm3; 🙂

So, the talisman doesn’t accept use for personnal reasons. That damn magical items, they are all the same.

  25. Hi @WE,@MM, @FF. Welcome @Bongi! I am having some connectivity issues, may run even further behind today.

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, one clue in the monk’s words… the talisman can help BD but it will be hard to preserve his life in this world. Hence he ended up being saved in a future world. Wonder why he didn’t get to travel to another place rather than to another time!!

  27. @WE. This part where he is shot with the arrows and turns up in the hospital. Reminds me of something similar from “live up to your name”

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF! I’m at the monk telling how the talisman can be misused and will cause great calamities.

  29. The trap of the villain.
Previous episode he said he would use the talisman at his advantage.
First, hurt seriously BD with arrow, then kill him with final arrow.
Making he goes to present time with very classy arrow in the body and leaves the place as if it was perfectly normal and fashion. ^^

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, well there’s that too… Yoon Wol exists only to further the plot for BD and is expendable. Hence she is never given a growth arc. In fact only BD seems to have a growth arc… did HJ ever change?

  31. Thanks, everyone. Yes @WE i’. Nakayla on MDL.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, take your time. I’m pausing in between to go get stuff and talk to people.

  33. @Gb, I am just a little behind. I am at BD looking at a portrait of a wanted man.

  34. The kind of heroes wounded deadly but no matters what, continues walking and going to do what he have to do. 🙂

  35. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @WE… classy? Fashion statement… walk around town in hanbok with arrows sticking out of one’s body? Yeah the people want to take a photo of him.

  36. I’m streaming on a TV on Watchasian but the quality is bad. Where are you guys watching it?

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF Gosh, how can he pull out arrows from his body? I think he broke the arrows and left the arrowheads in his body eyyywwwuuuu!!!

  38. Something has changed, BD is hurt even though he escapes death and travelled to modern time.

  39. @GB. The value of a rewatch. I did not catch the significance of the monk’s words the first time through (or the humor of a giseng having as much piety as a monk!): “Because he is destined to face endless difficulties, it will be difficult to preserve his life in ‘this’ world”. Also the hint of fate (destined). I wonder what the word was (always reminds me of the fate/doom conversations in ‘Doom at your service’ where the same Korean word is used, I believe).

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, bit ridiculous, this part… the walking ‘dead’ man LOL. Even so badly injured he is able to steal clothes, get changed and figure out Min Am’s strategy. I’m SOOOOO impressed!

  41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Bongi, I’m able to get the illegal sites… Dramanice and similar. Lousy quality too because this show is over 10 years old. However it’s watchable.

  42. Well done, how we moved between past and present When the baddie Discussing his sinister plot and BD Is coming to the realization of what that plot is.

  43. @Bongi, I send you a PM on MDL about that, but it will be for the next rewatch, as it needs to download.

  44. Yes @GB, BD can still walk with the arrowhead in his body and blood staining his shirt. What if the arrow is smeared with poison?

  45. @MM, ahhh yes, famous SJJ montages.

    Comedy scene with drama director.
(I get back 2 minutes, so should be late now)

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, Yes, Eastern culture is rife with Fate and it’s not quite correctly equated with destiny. @pkml3 has a lot to say about THAT.

The word for fate, sounds like ‘Um-myeong’.

  47. I am watching it on tubi A free app on my television but also accessible on my tablet And computer in north america.

    Very good quality

  48. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m too sleepy to listen to Min Am’s plot LOL.

Here’s Dong Min being absent… being petty and unprofessional.

  49. @SD. I only caught that this time around as well.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Lucky you @MM… the picture is fuzzy at my end.

Taxi driver is so familiar LOL. So many faces that we see in later dramas over and over again.

  51. Yes, @GB it’s watchable. @WE I will check MDL.

  52. Some logic in the courtroom…
… But think about black magic.
An acceptable answer for this mystery.

    And BBBBBIM… hospital again.
I don’t remember if he goes later in the same VIP room.

  53. Cabby is so familiar and so unobservant

  54. Script revision.
    Now, as well to say:
Hey! Something changed in the timeline. LOL.

  55. Whenever I watch any of the episodes and we come to BD’s interactions with his retainers i am struck by how even though he lives in the future, for them it as his death. Of course, it eventually is his death (or so they think). But even for him to live, if they never see him again it is as though he died. The giseng, Yoon Wol, expresses this best, especially in this episode in her deep love for him. In this era, it would have had to be an unrequited love given their difference in status, a point BD makes clear in an earlier episode. Yet the loss of BD to the era he is from is a death and the character serves a purpose to the plot in making that very clear. “I had never thought that My Lord’s happiness would mean disappearing from in front of us forever.”

  56. The FL didn’t understood that. ahaha.
Having a light brain in the room help a lot for doing funny argument scenes.

  57. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yup… sounds like black magic. Such powerful talisman magic.

Back and forth… hospital then past and backwards to arriving in hospital then forwards to after the surgery. 10 days have passed! We are also meant to be as disoriented as BD by the show going back and forth in time.

  58. The taxi driver acted in many KDramas

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, Yes, I feel that YW is very essential but is a sadly neglected character.

  60. Before screen-break, mini cliffhanger, as she looks at the computer, but we don’t see it.
Oh ohohohoh. Easy trick. But just the effective thing that always work. I TAKE NOTES!!!!!!!

    ANd…….
    YEAH! Same hospital room. 🙂

  61. Here, she shows her smartphone. We probably missed more moments foreshadowing the smartphone since last time we talked about it.

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Bongi, yes the taxi driver is usually a bit more visible than in this show.

Now we find HJ misunderstanding how her role has changed. Joke is that DM asks if the Queen should be killed by poisoning… the very death that he’d been trying to get the Director to incorporate into the plot.

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @BG
Sorry he didn’t mention poison but dying from illness. He wanted her poisoned I believe.

History has changed and he wants to check the annals even if he’s in pain.

  64. Oh the music when HJ enters the room, @WE.

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF LOL I thought the same thing when I heard the music.

  66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

For an actress, HJ makes a lousy liar. BD can tell that she’s hiding something from him.

  67. @GB, I love this drama trope. But each time I always wonder worriedly: hey dude, you will die from your wounds if you continue to act fool like that.

  68. @FF, I didn’t want to mention that but… ccrrrriiiiinnnnnggggeeeeeeeee. kr kr kr;

  69. Another crazy good montage.
And thanks to the director, BD face and the book with a merge effect.

  70. Still behind. Very effective flashbacks to what happened on screen as BD is reconstructing what must have happened for him to be assassinated. As the blood trips down his hand. As he stands in the middle of the street. Danger everywhere and still BD’s mind is putting the pieces together.

  71. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I cringed more at the wounds, blood and pain BD has to suffer. He finds the talisman missing.

  72. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We see that BD even as he gets out to check the library, stops and notes how injured/sick people are rushed into the hospital. He will use this knowledge in the hopes of saving his own life later.

  73. Did she think that he would not check history book that’s why she lied? hahahaha

  74. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Good joke that Mgr Jo’s only conclusion to BD’s running away is that he did not want to pay the hospital bill!!! LOL.

  75. This drama and Nine were really a revolution in korean dramas. First time a screenwriter use an high-concept fully. With mind-blowing stuff.
Only after that, some other dramas like Signal could be made.
And of course SJJ killed the game with W. Well, she deserve it, she’s the initiator of this brainy thrilling stuff.

  76. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yup just watched the very good montage with voice over narration. We get the highlights of the whole story.

  77. @Bongi, drama on Prime video as The Queen and I.
Ending of this episode in which BD states “I will resolve everything” after he reveals his previous promise to queen five years ago serves several purposes: reveals that he is a man of character (love it, no toxic male here), is meant to reassure HJ and also us, the viewers.

  78. @SD @GB and others

In this show, I do not think of it as bad storytelling. The drama is working in two time lines and there is a lot to explain. The scriptwriter does give her context as his dead wife’s maid. I would not have been interested in watching More development with this Character and she does serve an essential role.

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

In this case, was there a way for BD to go backwards in time to save the people who died? I don’t think so since he cannot play with time, he can only time travel to a corresponding time 300 years past or future.

  80. So, she didn’t reveal the truth to him because (of course) she doesn’t want he goes back in time to solve that in dangerous situations.
For this girl, her romance is more important than history and things like the queen is killed instead of lady Jang ok Jung. ahahahahahahha.

  81. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

It’s so interesting what BD says… he gives the alternatives to what they’d be experiencing if the talisman had been burned. They might have never been able to recognise each other.

  82. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@LL Good point… he’s reassuring us, viewers, that there will be a happy ending.

  83. Every time i watch a historical drama, i will thank God that those times have passed, people from the old times were so cruel, getting headed just because you are related to the incriminated person.

  84. @GB, gosh, I missed that foreshadowing about the burned talisman.
I like so much dramas like that with a whole plan on the whole drama.

  85. @Bongi,
I’m especially grateful for this time, because the dentist can treat my tooth problem without me suffering too much. Otherwise, human nature doesn’t change much over the centuries. And today, the same scum exist as in the past.

  86. I started a few minutes early and i’m still only at thirty three minutes. I think I will just keep watching and then review the comments.

  87. I already finished. Guys, which other dramas are you re-watching?

@WE but it’s much better than the old times. People don’t actually behead each other do they?

  88. @Bongi. Just using some other ways but same results.
Master and servants. (yo, Depeche mode good music)
Just another way, but same mind. It’s like that. It’s the Samsara, bouddhist understanding about how the world and human nature work. It’s why storytelling (in dramas for example) is universal, telling the human emotions and desire since immemorial times. Today you have a car, and yesterday just a donkey, but human soul remains the same.

  89. During the phone call where he promises to take care of everything and come back, I was thinking about the strength of character one would need to have to stay so true to oneself When one could take on an entirely new identity in a new time line. I think for many people it would not be difficult to rationalize that choice; however, he cannot. He says how he could not live with himself. He Is showing such integrity.

@GB I will give it some thought about how HJ has developed, if she has?

  90. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I nodded off at the end of the episode. I’m definitely uncomfortable with living in the past or even future. Leaving everything and accepting great changes isn’t my idea of fun.

  91. In this episode we have BD listening two different women, both of whom love him, tell him not to leave while sobbing. For YW, the actor’s face stays very still, interested, not involved. For HJ, the actor displays a very subtle shift in his face. He shows us, not only that he is interested, but that he is both exasperated (deep breath, eyes glance to the side) and concerned. I have seen Ji Hyun Woo in other dramas (Angry Mom), but never quite realized what a good actor he is.

Also, it is just a nice bookending to have the one encounter with the women he does not love and one with the one he does love in the same episode with essentially the same dynamic. The life he wants to leave (has to leave — he is exacerbated because he can’t take a photo of the assassin, he is no longer completely of his own time) and the life he wants to have.

  92. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Okay everyone, I’m off! Thanks for a nice rewatch. Now I need shut-eye in prep for a long, interesting week.

  93. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Good point @SD!!

  94. Hahahaha that’s right @WE.I will check for the dates for Samsara rewatch.

  95. @SD, ahahhhh glad you like the actor. I have only one word to say:
    Watch “Love in Sadness” !!!!!!!
You’ll see him here in a different role. Not a hero. Just a common man, with not much instinct for action, but difficult past, and actual cringe choices, and… One of the top5 best villain ever seen in a kdrama.
+actress Park Ha Na in the first episodes, one of my rare darling. 😉

I’ll quit now and wish you good week. And of course, we’ll probably exchange comments here or there before next episode. 😉

  96. @WE

Love and sadness is on my to watch list if I can find a good quality Video. Does he play a villain? Or are you talking about the other guy who really seems like a villain. Or are they both somewhat villanous. If you can answer my question without any spoilers please try😁

I just finished watching him in good thieves bad thieves.

  97. @MM, of course, no spoiler.
The actor plays the good guy.
But all of the three mains (good or bad) have a clear psychatric problem. What make the story even more spicy. 😀

  98. @WE Yes, just from the synopsis It didn’t sound like anybody Was a straight forward character. The guy who plays the really evil guy. I think also played a really evil character in Save the last dance for me
    “.

Did you find a good place to watch it?

  99. @MM. See your PM box on MDL. 😉

  100. This story can be viewed as BDs hero arc mainly. SO WHAT IS HJ’s role. Is she mainly one of his helpers along the path of his adventure? Or does she have any arc of her own?

  101. @SD One of the themes of this drama is death and rebirth. We will see this theme play out even more Obviously as we continue with this watch.

Your comments above are on point. I had not thought of it that way.
