What do you think? I’m giving it a score of 6 out of 10. I deducted points because of:

a. the lack of sophistication and suave-ness with the landing. Don’t rush it, Cha EunWoo!

b. the way his mouth looked like a suckerfish about to guzzle her upper lip. He overestimated how wide he should open his mouth.

c. the follow-up little kisses. What were those for? Seowon was kissing HaeNa passionately when she suddenly decided to hit the brakes and give him tiny pecks on the lips instead. The mood went from steamy to platonic in 6 seconds. Boo!

d. Cha EunWoo’s red ears. Those are always a telltale sign that the actor is embarrassed/shy/nervous of the kissing scene.

Enjoy the show!

  1. Thanks, @packmule3. I thought the little kisses were like a inside joke to prove that she wouldn’t turn into and out of being a dog, like a flashing light. (Although that would have been pretty funny.) 🐶👩🐶👩🐶👩

Yes, he was attacking her upper lip only, but I’ve seen that in k-dramas before. Whatever, right?

  2. I can’t wait to see @agdr03’s comments. 😊

    Nice jawline, right?

  3. I think they were all taught by the same “kissing coach.” hahaha.

Yes, it was a joke that she wouldn’t turn into Cocoa but couldn’t she just hold off for a minute or two and lose herself in his kiss? To me, she was more concerned about proving a point (“See? My curse is cured! Thank you.”) instead of the heat of the moment (“Ooooh. This feels so good. You’re a good kisser. I feel all-tingly inside.”) And because she reacted like that, the enchantment was lost for me, too. 🙂

  4. Hehehe he may be too tall to reach her lower lip.

    The beetroot ears are distracting!

The best kiss was with Cocoa the dog.

  5. Lol. True, Hana. But they were sitting down, you know.

Actors’ flushed ears are always so distracting during kiss scenes. I wish the makeup artists would do something about them.

  6. Waaaa! Kiss gifs for me! 😍 Kumawo Queen! 🙇🏻‍♀️❤️

I love my kisses as everyone here knows but I have to agree with you. It didn’t feel passionate enough like why are they seating down? Ok, I guess CEW might tower over her more if their standing up.

I can see that upper lip too. I’ll advise him to go for the lower lip next time. 😂

Nevertheless like @Fern said, nice jawline indeed. 🥰

True about the red ears as well. I think it goes in cdramas too? 🤔

I’ll try to watch the latest tonight. ☺️

  7. @Packmule3, @Fern, @agdr03,

@Packmule3, I so agree with point c) . The mini kisses killed the mood. That’s not the way it develops after one passionate starter kiss – those kisses are for after everything has calmed down and the passion diffused!

@Fern I also wondered about the inside joke – with FL delightedly testing out her new freedom. But this was not satisfactory from an audience perspective and just toooo playful and light at that point of passion and high drama.

  8. I wonder if they ad libbed a bit and the actress decided to diffuse the actual tension in the room about kissing by being playful!

    Probably not…

  9. I am repeating what has already been said – late night and I do feel strongly like you all do about the importance of good kiss work!!!

  10. To paraphrase, “You must remember this, (in dramas) a kiss isn’t just a kiss…”

  11. @agdr03, did you watch episode 9? Satisfied?

Woo Taek is becoming my second favourite after Yul. I wish those two had more scenes.

Did anyone notice that when the first time Shaman Girl went down to the ‘archive’, she was wearing black trainers (24.50). When Bo Gyeol carried her away, she was wearing white trainers. (28.16) Was that a continuity error or on purpose? Also the soles of the shoes of the hanbok-wearing spirit looked modern to me.

  12. I was taken out of the mood at the curse-lifting kiss because all I could think about was a huge continuity error. The show repeatedly stressed Hae Na’s vulnerability when she returned to human form at 6am, that she’d be stark naked. So what’s with her being fully clothed in human form as soon as Seo Won kissed Cocoa? Show missed some good comedic moments there: the couple so focused on the kiss that neither perceives she’s standing in front of him naked, Hae Na realizing it and becoming flustered as she barks a command for Seo Won keep his eyes closed, he being a gentleman and turning his back to her as she scrambles to get dressed. It could have been shot with camera angles that modestly suggest nakedness without being explicit. And I’d believe of Seo Won that he’d be totally and obliviously into the kiss the moment he felt his lips connecting with Hae Na’s human lips. Another continuity error is that his hands were under the front legs of Cocoa, so the instant Hae Na regained human form, his hands should’ve been under her arms on either side of her torso, not on the sides of her face.

Is it a continuity error that Hae Na instantly changes back to being human, when she didn’t immediately become a dog at the moment she first kissed Seo Won by accident? She didn’t change until the stroke of midnight. Both her unnie’s ex and her father did speak of seeing their lovers transform at the time of the kiss. The uncle left the house in the morning as a human, and when the young Hae Na returned from school, she found him in his dog form. His transformation happened during daytime. We also see the quick transformation when, as children, Hae Na’s unnie tests the curse by kissing their friend. She did explain (Episode 1, timestamp 22:07) that the change would happen after one minute. The clock on the bedroom wall read 12:21. Were those juveniles up after midnight? I may be nitpicking here, but I perceive Show as not being consistent in its world building.

At the little celebration held for Hae Na, Woo Take mentions her curse being lifted, not the curse being broken. If all it took to break the curse for all time was a doggie-lover kiss, the curse might have been broken generations ago. The parents of Hae Na and her unnie are a sincerely loving couple, yet the curse endures to the next generation. So something else must need to happen for the curse to be broken.

At the beginning of Episode 9, we get some understanding as to why we can’t figure out if Bo Gyeom is a good guy or a bad guy. He’s nudging Seo Won and Hae Na together not to help them as the OTC, but because he wants revenge on them (their previous incarnations). He wants to build them up only to tear them down and cause them grief.

At Episode 9 timestamp 9:16, Bo Gyeom is talking with Vice Principal in his lair under the school. Turns out Vice Principal was put into his position by Bo Gyeom, and came with him from the mountain. He’s a minion of the mountain spirit. VP says, “Who on earth is that woman for you to go this far–” then stops himself, knowing he’s gone too far. Bo Gyeom ‘s response: “Those two must lose what I’ve lost as well. Those two must feel…what I’ve felt as well.” For the mountain spirit, it’s not enough that Seo Won’s ancestor died a bloody death and Hae Na’s entire family line has been cursed through the ages. Vindictive, much.

The plot tension about lifting Hae na’s curse has resolved, as has the storyline about the slimy blogger who bullied Seo Won in school. I can see that Show will move more intensively into the story of why the mountain spirit cursed Hae Na’s family, and how Seo Won and Hae Na will team up to block his evil plans and end the curse. (We hope!) Will there be a redemption arc for Bo Gyeom / Mountain Spirit? Perhaps. A quick sequence of scenes in Episode 8, starting at timestamp 54:20, shows Mountain Spirit developing fondness for the noble girl who brings him offerings and expresses gratitude for his help. He must blame the previous incarnations of Seo Won and Hae Na for the loss of the noble girl, Cho Yeon.

When Seo Won and Hae Na kiss to lift the curse, we see over at Bo Gyeom ‘s trailer (but not where the OTP stand) thunder peals and by the light of lightning flashes we see a sword in a wooden storage case. Is that the sword with which Seo Won’s ancestor threatened the neck of Cho Yeon? Cho Yeon may not have been killed by the sword, but later with an arrow, because we see Cho Yeon’s scarf with a hole in it kept as a relic by Bo Gyeom. Has there been a big misunderstanding? Was a sword held to Cho Yeon’s neck as a bit of theater in an attempt to diffuse a dangerous situation? Was Cho Yeon killed by someone else unknown to Mountain Spirit, who is not omniscient, but his wrath fell on the ancestors of Seo Won and Hae Na as the likely suspects? We shall see.

  13. @Welmaris, yes, I noticed that sometimes Hae Na returned unclothed but not always.

In episode 10 we get the historical story of the main characters, but it is all from the Mountain God’s viewpoint. He has some information but not all and he is not omniscient. It was interesting that Cho Yeon wants to play house with him. She was a married woman who had conceived, so it seemed to me that she was played with fire pretending to play like a child with a physically and psychologically less experienced God.
