My Demon: Eps 11 & 12 Open Thread

The thread is open.

Boooooo. So, Noh SukMin is the devil and not Oppa Ju SeokHoon? I concede that SukMin is the ultimate killing machine, having offed his mother, his partner in crime aka the Psoriasis Guy, and his son (indirectly). But Ju SeokHoon is still not off my Villain List.

Let’s enjoy the show.

  1. @pm3, thanks for the thread. I’m about to drop, but not, but yes, but not. 😀
I’ll read your EP 9 article once it’s done.
Secretly (well, not anymore), I hope it’s something funny caustic. 🙂

  2. Oppa Seokhoon will join the bad side from the preview. Unless it’s just a front to catch Sukmin.

  3. Oh no…gonna brace myself for the new episodes as it usually come out 11pm my time and is a bit late to watch as a family.

Meanwhile I have joined a watch party for My Demon explaining some of the cultural things that we international viewers miss. One of the things is that Madam Ju…is a play on the name for Jesus. And the rings she gave to DoHee, one is on the ring finger and the other on the index finger. In their culture they believe that, if the ring on her index finger fits her partner, it is a perfect match for her.

Not sure if this link works but I hope to join in an hour! They are only on Episode 2. Update here if there are anything interesting!

Thanks for the info @grace. I’ll be interested to know how you find it eventhough I’ve dropped this show. 🙂

  5. @Grace, I already explained the significance of Madam Ju’s name and the names of the other characters in my First Impression post (or was it second?) so there’s nothing there. However, if you find anything about Do DoHee’s name, just post here.

My “theory” is that her name is a wordplay on “duty.” That is, she’s obliged to “do [her] duty.” She’s the dutiful one. She does what she has to do to please Madam Ju. But then, she doesn’t know about Madam Ju’s involvement in her parents’ death.

  6. Hello Everyone !

@Packmule thank you for the thread!

I have managed to watch the latest two episodes, but I have to say that I am very pissed with the Goddess and no I am not referring to the actress Cha Chung-Hwa who is doing a very good job with that she is given to play.

  7. As I wanted to write in the previous thread, but I didn’t have the time nor the mood, it is something we have also discussed when we were watching DAYS.

As in “Doom At Your Service”, this Goddess is not a perfect being, she is rather imperfect and I don’t like how she treats humanity nor Jeong GuWon.

I find her lacking Love and she rather hold grudges. She doesn’t have sympathy and she mocks Jeong GuWon for what he sees in the world.

Since she is not a Goddess of Love and she is not acting like one, then we should take her as an imperfect being, that didn’t made the Cosmos herself. That is I wanted to write.

She didn’t make the Cosmos but she was made to be in charge.

That means two things, another Divine Being built the Cosmos like Aristotle said in Physics about “το πρώτο κινούν ακίνητον” or “the unmoved mover”

    or

if we take Plato into the mix, and talk about the Theory of the Form (Metaphysics) and his Ideal, human beings can perceive via our senses the illusions of the physical world, while the “Ιδέες” / Idea that are the real essences and deal cannot be perceived.

So, If I make a creative synthesis of both, I can say that in this dramaverse the Go(o)ddess is really an illusion or imitation of a Goddess.

And I am okay with this, because the fate Do Do Hee and Jeong Gu Won shared in their previous life was cruel. Especially, for what actually happened using that specific arc.

Lastly, I don’t believe what we actually saw in that last flashback. It might be a diversion. When he saw the faces in that picture, he didn’t recognize them at all. I don’t think that he forgets faces that easily. Let’s us see.

  8. I’ve only seen episode 11 and maybe it was just me but I saw the acting as acting? LOL. For SK, I mean. I’m not feeling him playing JG. It might just be me.

Let me watch episode 12, hopefully I can see/feel our pairing. 🙂

  9. Kalimera @agdr03,

I have watched Song Kang both in “Sweet Home 2” and “My Demon” and I can say that he acts pretty good in “My Demon”, while he nailed it in “Sweet Home 2”.
Especially in Episode 12 of “My Demon” gives a very solid acting performance.

  10. Yes, I agree with @cleopatra.

Ep 12 – especially last 10-15 minutes is solid from SK acting perspective. I have seen none of his previous works so can’t compare but I connected with his character well in Ep 12.

Noteworthy is also Ep 6 post his epic hanging from building save of DH. When the two hug and he gently reassures her in the stairwell, I felt all warm inside.

Same with Ep 8 post his stabbing. A small 10-15 sec clip where he hugs DH in the hospital. I could sense the character’s relief and the solace he felt in the arms of his love. ❣️

  11. Hi @Cleopatra and @Arisi 👋🏻

Episode 12 is good, yes. I felt JG then. SK did very well especially with his crying scenes like after waking up and realising that he killed DDH in the past, after seeing her die and at the performance where he said he’s afraid that DDH might end up being miserable with him.

It’s just episode 11, I don’t know, maybe it was the way he delivered the dialogue. Just ignore me. 😃 I tried to watch Sweet Home but I couldn’t continue. 😬

  12. @agdr03,

Well, you are uri Chingu. We won’t just ignore you. We will talk it first! :*

Especially in Sweet Home 2, Song Kang is pretty amazing. I was in awe in his crying scenes! He can portray desperation in a very vivid way.

For some unknown reason the netizens are banishing SK and Cha Eun Woo for their acting and I am curious if they are actually watching the shows they are in. Because it is not a nice thing to say that they are only pretty boys.

I am waiting for CEW’s “Wonderful World”.
    More Here: https://mydramalist.com/749439-wonderful-world

I have watched a teaser and he will blow them all away with his performance.
    Write down that one. *grins*

  13. Dear @agdr03, Song Kang does not know us. But we do know you. It doesn’t matter what are your opinions about his professional capabilities my dear. Fortunately, none of us on this blog are like that. I don’t like a lot of people in the entertainment industry 😶‍🌫️

  14. By “don’t like” I mean I don’t enjoy them on screen. I don’t know a single person who ever appears on TV so “don’t like” is a rather strong phrase.

The closest thing I know to a “TV personality” is my encounter with the wife of a famous Indian cricketer. She was (and I’m sure is) an absolute dear. I met her in my professional capacity when her child was unwell. So down to earth. “Just like us”. I had tea with her after her child recovered.

How would it be to share a beverage with the real Song Kang or the real CEW or the real LMH – all undone from their projected selves ? Or any of their leading ladies ?

  15. @cleopatra, who are those netizens? And do they like anything? Or anyone? Korean celebrities always seem to be excessively apologetic, walking on eggshells in public, have strict agencies policing them 24 x7… One mistake and bam. All your fandom becomes your worst enemy.

  16. Kalispera from Athens my dear @Arihsi!

I don’t know who these people are and I also don’t want to find out.

I have learned that every person is fighting a battle, we know nothing about. So I have decided to treat everyone with kindness, regardless if they want it or not.

At the same time, once upon a time, I have met some famous actors and took interviews of them. The only thing I will say is what I have realized before even that happens.

Those actors / these actresses are simple people like us that are doing a “sparkling” work. I mean they are under the lights.

Last year, Cha Eun Woo lost one of his teammates and best friends, Astro’s Moonbin. I was watching him on IG posting pictures for his work as an Ambassador, while he was struggling. I knew, because his visuals were everything, but at the same time, his eyes revealed the pain he was through. He had also lost weight.

So, what I really want to say is that we know nothing about their real lifes, but some of us assume that we own them.

The truth is we own them nothing. They work and we follow them IF we like to do so.

They are human beings and should be treated as such. They are not products. The late Sulli said it first. They were told that they are products. It is amazing what you can find on the Internet about people you know nothing about, especially when they were young and talented and died young because of the hate / pressure that affected their mental wellbeing.

I still remember Heath Ledger. His death’s announcement shook me so much back in 2008.

I found out about Sulli, SHINEE’s JongHyun, …, Lee Sun Kyun and there are so many more that have lost their lives because of how the netizens are treating them. I just pray that some will come into their senses and stop it.

Afterall, we are International fans or followers and some of us far away from the others.

I just hope if any of them ever read B.O.D. to see that people here do care about them. Even though, we know their roles and not them personally. We do care about their wellbeing a lot, because their acting in a specific story mattered to us / was our companion in a difficult time of our lives or whatever occasion was.

    That’s all I wanted to say. ☺

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Bravo! bravo! @Cleo. I’m with you 100%. Well said. I have been feeling the same way about the whole deplorable attitude that netizens have towards celebrities, as if they own them or as if celebrities owe them something. It is a terrible thing that without ever being proven guilty, persons are punished because they are in the limelight, are supposed to be role models, and represent brands.

Too often we love things and use people when we should be using things and loving people.

  18. I want them all to read BoD @cleopatra. It’s like the negative stereotypes that surround countries. I want them to see that not all fans are bashing them. Not all fans equal their professional capacity with their personal worth. All of us here believe that they can take up space even if they are still learning to act / look good / have a random affair /make a mistake.

Because here at BoD, we never forget that we are talking about a fellow human being, even if they are a celebrity.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hear! Hear! @Arihsi!!

  20. Kalimera Unnie!

You said it all in your last sentence! We should love people and treat things and not the other way around!

  21. @Arihsi,

We can pray that they do read B.O.D and see our Community for what it is.
I think it shines! I think that would make them smile, as it makes us.

I am happy and grateful for my B.o.D. friends, really.
@Packmule3 has made a haven for all of us here. Truly, I feel we are blessed!

  22. I watched but don’t have much to say. I didn’t take notes and was tired.
