1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you my dear @pkml3! You’re really on the ball with the Rewatch this week. I’m inundated with stuff to do but I’ll be there at 10pm SGT tomorrow night!!!

2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

By the way @pkml3, thank you for praying for me for my retreat last weekend. For some reason when I went to the Ep 7 Rewatch thread, I didn’t see your message at first. I did have a good prayer experience and more insights, which means of course, more hard work (on my own spiritual growth) πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‡πŸ™ƒ The challenge is always to continue to live in the world in the plains or in the valleys, after the retreat experience of once being on the mountain top with the Lord. Bless you! πŸ€—

3. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s rewatch.

4. The alarm clock is set!

5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Great to see you dropping by @MM and @WE. I’m just going to test whether I can enter spoiler tags and hide stuff in this version of the WordPress text box.

This is a spoiler.

Another way of possibly adding hidden spoilers just to check it out:
This uses the Span Class Spoiler command.

If nothing works, at least we should see smileys! πŸ«£πŸ€”πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰πŸ˜Œ

6. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Le me try again with a different command.
This part is the spoiler to be hidden.
7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

OK I can confirm that we cannot hide spoilers here, but no problem since we do put our spoiler warnings when we remember!!

Spoiler

8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi Everyone, it’s time!!! Let’s start now! I was reading the new post on MMH and forgot the time!

9. Anyone here? Guess the page is failing to refresh again.

10. Good morning (here). Are we ready to start?

11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF, I can see you! I just started too!

12. Hi @FF!

13. HI @GB, @SD.

14. Hi FF, SD, GB

15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @SD, yes start!!! I’m at the brothers in the past in horror at the death of dad.

16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hey @WE!

Hah SW comes to beat up his big brother in front of everyone.

17. Hi @GB, @WE!

I love the start to this one. Right in the thick of things. Both brothers breathing heavily.

18. SW did not manage to beat up his brother in the previous timeline, so he went back to the current timeline and beat up his brother. So out of character for SW who is always calm and compose.

19. No “hello”, he punches him right away.
And continues to punch like crazy. Crazy guy!!

20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL They just let him beat his brother up like crazy before stopping him. Some kind of friends his brother has. Then SW collapses so the beater gets taken care of while the beaten is ignored LOL.

21. Hi @WE.

22. JW has the (literal) blood of his father on his hands.

23. @GB, hey, it’s like that in dramas.
I’ve a scene like that, but added:
“people are confused, it goes too fast”.
What explain why there is enough beating. LOL!

24. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF I loved how not composed SW was!

Then we compare with Min Young who takes over the anchor role and she’s all calm and composed.

25. @GB, oh yeah, the victim is left for dead, but they take care of the agressor. lolol! is it hidden comedy?

26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I begin to know your style… go for the action and the dramatic, nevermind the explanation… that comes later but not by exposition!

27. @GB, haha you like violent man but he does exude manliness here. I thought Min Young is sweet for want to read the closing lines written by SW.

28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, it was not meant to be a joke but I found it funny.

Even when everyone is at a loss over SW’s behaviour and no one is explaining anything, … and later scene, next thing we know, SW’s run away again, from the ambulance!!! LOL So much unexplained action for the characters who are confused, but we, the audience are in on the reasons why. It’s a great joke!

29. @GB, a nice way that I could resume with: “first make audience shit in their pant, then help them wash their ass” and the pant goes to the garbage can. πŸ™‚

30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, As both the girl with a crush for the anchor and the ‘niece,’ Min Young always had a special place in her heart for SW. She takes a special interest in him, helping to care for him etc. So it’s natural that she wanted his closing to be used.

31. Now SW’s brother has NO DOUBT his brother knows the truth.
It was the best way to signal him. lol!
Now he will speak on the phone and says the truth.

32. I think Jeong Woo knows why he was beaten up by SW. Later in the brothers’ conversation, we know how hurt SW was by the loss of his father, mother and his Min Youn and for hating the wrong person for as long as he remembered.

33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, a similar thing is happening with SW and his accusation of brother Jung Woo. First he condemns him and later on he will find that things were not as he had imagined or thought he knew.

34. @GB, I like this aspect of this drama as well. All the little jokes (trouble with a stick shift, the little puff of air the station manager Sang Beom gives when once again the director sides with SW) and the subtext that we know what is happening but the characters run around clueless.

35. So much happened in the hour time frame in the show. So well depicted. I found exchange between the brothers on the phone with the split screen very emotional. The way the brother was filmed huddling up to the car Expressed how pitiful he was.

I was surprisedHow SW Kept punching him so hard in the face.. It looked like it should have done more damaged than it did. He completely lost it.

36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, @WE yes the subtext of knowing more than the characters… but we get an additional subtext. SW thinks he knows the truth, but there is more truth to know and we too will only find out later.

Poor wife of Jung Woo… she’s completely puzzled by everyone’s behaviour.

37. Min Young have doubts, we are about to enter the episodes where SW is really a jerk with her. (until now, he was just a “light jerk”).

38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, Yes JW knew and accepted the beating without protest. Any way, he did not have the chance to protest.

Now Min Young will be trying to find out more like a true reporter.

39. I forgot to mention, but there is a crazy thing in this drama. We are ep 8/20 and already, he have only 2 incent stick left. I was worried a lot about that the first time I watched.

40. What irony in the closing comments of SW read by MW: “History of mankind proves that the arrogance of a man, of believing he is the only one who could change the world, has led many heroes to their doom.” Written by SW about Choi Jin Chul, but far more applicable to himself.

41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Yes, I also feel the stress of only having 2 incense sticks left. 9 sticks were too few!!! LOL But no.

42. @GB, yeah, there is a truth hidden behind the fake truth hidden behind the fake truth hidden behind the lies.

43. The father is really terrible in this word here.
By the way, he gets a slap!
And gives A SLAP !!

44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, Yes, the irony of the closing.

And now we get to see the real, great jerk his beloved father was.

45. Yes @SD, he sees the fault in others but not himself.

46. So, in a technical way, the mother killed the father?

47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE SW finally sees that the violence was begun by his own father. The accident took place because JW wanted to defend his mother who was being strangled by his father.

Choi Jin Chul, the opportunist took the chance to get what he needed.

48. The villain brainwash a bit the brother. Great ability.

49. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, It’s not clear how the father got his head bleeding and how he died. But with Choi JC stepping in to cover up the death and mother and JW forced to keep silence to protect each other and the family, we now understand why JW became a drug addict and the mother became mad.

50. @WE, I though the mother said it is an accident. The father fell and hurt himself?

51. “Don’t worry, don’t feel guilty, it was just an accident”. πŸ˜€

52. I am trying to remember. Did we see some of the sequence that is recorded on the videotape?
In the last episode as it was happening. And now we are being showing the context?

53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes, I wonder too if JW pushed his father too hard and he fell backwards and hit his head. So it was mainly an accident… or manslaughter and not murder. Still the guilt was terrible. Choi JC could play on the sense of guilt and need to protect the young SW to keep everyone quiet, to suit himself.

54. The guy wears a BLACK CAP.
And we understand right away he’s trying to hide and is an illegal guy. It was the kdrama symbolic of the “black cap”.
lol

55. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hah! we get to see actor Kim Won Hae in a bit part role as arsonist for Choi. Nowadays he’s in so many shows and plays leading roles.

56. Until now, JW came back in the past for just getting information, but changed nothing.

57. @GB, we are not shown the full picture but SW turn his head away for a moment when reviewing the video. He must have seen the whole process, too painful for him to watch.

58. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, you mean Sun Woo or Jung Woo? Sun Woo made his own present and future worse by changing things in the past. And he didn’t even save his father.

59. @GB, both Jeong Woo and the mother felt so guilty, Jeong Woo was depressed and resort to drug use, the mother went mad but Choi Jin Cheol is still living the high life. He does not feel guilty at all.

60. The acting of Jin Noh Min (JW) and Lee Jin Wook (SW) on that phone call is just superb. And even after as SW lights the incense you can see the aftermath of that intense emotion.

61. @GB, oops I was speaking about protagonist, so SW.
Error of typing.

Scene from the past with two girls.
I don’t remember the reasons but the friend meet the sidekick girl. Is it because a change in the past? I’m lost here.

62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes Choi thinks he’s just fine, getting away with doing his shady dealings that SW’s father was not in favour of.

Now we see how SW’s friend, Young Hoon ended up married to that girl.

63. @SD, Lee Jin Wook is good here but in Bugalsa he sucks.

64. @SD I posted a similar comment but it does not seem to be here. The split screens and the acting during the phone conversation was very emotional. The brother huddled up against the car after the conversation depicted his despairvery well and his pitifulness.

65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, They were supposed to go on a double date trip to somewhere, but SW didn’t turn up because of the fire and his dad. However that’s how Young Hoon met his future wife.

66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, Yes, I personally disliked Bulgasal. Such great promise but so blandly executed. Unfortunately LJW is pretty much the same there as elsewhere. I did like him in this show.

67. It looks like my posts are not registering.

68. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Horrors @WE, not only are there only 2 incense sticks left, but he left them in 1992 to be burnt up in the fire!!! And we have 12 more episodes to go!!!

69. @GB, ok, so it’s not because of a time change.

Just now, it’s insane. There is 2 sticks, but he gives up and let them in the past.

70. @GB, saying the same thing at the exact same seconds. Do you have insect antennae?
(spoiler: I have some) πŸ™‚

71. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, He got tired of playing god with limited info from the Tree of Knowledge (of Good and Evil). He didn’t have enough knowledge to get anything right. Leaving the incense sticks behind was also unwise.

72. SW still has a great sense of humor here, asking Young Hoon to guess where he left the incense. “It is a Quiz”.

73. It raises an epic question: how a time travel drama could be exciting when there are no way left to travel in time. But we’ll see that next episodes. πŸ™‚

74. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I don’t want to be an insect LOL … maybe we became more synced with all the nonsense talk!

75. Nice shot with his reflection in a mirror table.

76. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, He likes to leave others guessing. We’ll hear the same quiz thing when he speaks with Min Young.

77. He calls her Joo Min Young. The wrong surname?

78. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, Yes, wrong surname. She has forgotten that she was Joo Min Young until her mother married Park Jung Woo.

79. Now he touches his cheek.
Wonder why this girl will chase him and he will be a jerk.

80. The pacing of this episode is so good. From the very start I don’t want to stop to comment, even though I watched it before, even though I know what will happen.

81. “her” cheek. Typing mistakes.
Drama song. But she cries too. So weird.

Shot on the burning incense stick.
CLIFFHANGER!!

82. I like this: You may ask me the questions but the answers are all “secret”.

83. Uncle looking so lovingly at his niece …. hmmmm kind of creepy if we do not know the context.

84. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, yes so much happened in this episode.

85. Hi all, late this morning but enjoy the insights already shared here. So much dramatic irony in this episode. Yes, SW does not save father from death, he can’t even prevent his young self from injury the second time around. LOL!
BTW I realize on this second watch that while holding this drama in high regard, I don’t care for appearance of Min Young. I don’t mean this in shallow way; basically she always looks too much like a school girl and never grown up enough to be in relationship with mature, manly SW.

86. @FF, even more creepy is the niece looking lovingly at the uncle, lol!!
No excuse here. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

87. @LL @GB I also do not find the actress.
Attractive in a way that I think matches withSW. That may be why I had Forgotten about the kiss scenes.

88. I am going over to watch Shop for killers, see you all next week if I can make it. Celebrating lunar new year here,

89. Bye bye!
See you next week or here, probably MMH thread. πŸ˜‰

90. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes it’s going to be Lunar New Year next week!

Bye everyone! I’m watching episode 9.

91. I was there, but My comments were not posting. Trying to sort that out right now.

92. @GB I am trying here again?

93. For some reason my comments were not going through during the show.

My take away is just how good this director is.

@SD I also particularly noted the scene beside the car where the brothers are talking on the phone. Such an emotive scene. The way the brother huddles against the car communicates his despair and pitifulness.

@LL GB I am not a fan of this actress which may be why I forgot all the good kisses!

SPOILER below

We can see in this episode several small moments that herald her remembering her former life. Tears in her eyes when SW in bed is lovingly looking at her, saying her Joo last name a few times when in the car and I think there was another time.

Because this story is not linear it is even more confusing sometimes in rewatch because I am not sure if a scene has already happened or if I only know it from previous watches.

So much is going on in the timeframe of about an hour while he is in 2012 and his brother is out for dinner with his wife and friends culminating in the scene where SW almost kills his brother in anger.

The Psy reference was sly. Marks the transition between 2012 and 2013. We can see it playing on the screens in the control room. For those who may not know(unlikely) this Psy video was the start of world wide kpop. Just recently I read it hit another so many billion watches record on Utube.

94. the spoiler only applies to the paragraph after and not the rest of the post

95. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @MM, I can see your comments. @pkml3 found that your comments and 1 of mine got ‘held back’ or were treated by the WordPress algorithm as spam. It happens to me from time to time. I will need to be more vigilant about checking if each post does get displayed or not.

I know that this actress is not as well regarded. I believe I only found that out after I first watched “Nine: 9”. She’s alright here for the role that she has to play. I did think that the kiss that has yet to come, was quite a smoulder-y one.

96. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, about the brother-punching scene. All that pent up anger against Choi JC suddenly had to be re-directed, and of all persons, towards the brother he had loved and respected. The sense of betrayal and horror must have overwhelmed him.

We do not get to see how the father got his head wound. I presume he, being the horrid abuser of his wife that he was, had continued to throttle her and Jung Woo had pulled him off her too hard so that he fell and hit his head. There were mitigating circumstances, but all SW could think about was that if his brother had not insisted on marrying the divorcee, his father’s death would not have happened. It must have been a terrible revelation that his family had been lying to him, that he’d lost his respect for father and brother, that he’d wrongly accused the hateful Choi and would have to apologise to him. Later on the phone, he accuses JW of causing him to lose his family and even his woman.

Stay tuned for the plot twist of all plot twists in next week’s Ep 9!!! I was quite blown away. πŸ™‚

97. I think I remember that plot twist. that of course is all I will say.

I thought there was a scene where we see how his father gets his head wound.
But maybe that even comes later. That was what I was wondering when I was saying how it is even harder to Rewatch a non linear plot

98. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM That’s true. I had to stop myself from saying more, realising that I’d watched ahead and am no longer sure where Ep 8 ended!

What we know… do we know because only the much later episodes tell us? Hmmm…
