The thread is open.

This series only has 14 episodes.

The open thread for Eps 1 to 4 is here: Moon in the Day: Eps 1 to 4 Open Thread

The parallel Romeo and Juliet balcony scenes serve as a reminder of their tragic fates.

As for these parallel stepping stone bridges, one in a cold minimalist room, and another in a stagnant pond —

they illustrate his state of eternal wandering. He moves slowly through time. Step by step, he follows the girl through her cycle of birth-death-rebirth. I understand why he wants out.

Let’s enjoy the show.

  1. Hello! Hope you have been well @Packmule3

Lurking around for this one but haven’t started seeing this yet. Looking forward to the 24th Nov dramas.

just wanted to say Hello 🙂 It has been a while but haven’t really been motivated enough to see anything. Did pick and finish Kidnapping Day. Enjoyed it 🙂

  2. Hi BODs! It’s good to be back.

That modern minimalist stepping stone design is too good of a coincidence. It made me wonder if Joon Oh chose that to be part of the design. Most probably tho, it’s the interior designer that added that element in the house.

  3. Right, @LeeDale9198?

DoHa hasn’t died and reincarnated yet so his consciousness couldn’t have been transferred to JoonOh’s UNconscious mind — unlike YoungHwa and RiTa’s situation — it’s eerie how JoonOh’s room mirrored that of DoHa’s pond.

I don’t know anything about this screenwriter (much less the web novel this drama was adapted from) so I can’t tell if it’s a plothole.

One of the directors directed “Third Charm.” Ugh!

  4. Kalimera @Packmule3!

I am eager to see what it will happen this week!

I read on MDL a concept of reincartion that I am not familiar about!
A user was saying that DoHa’s good part of the soul can reincarnate, while the evil spirit cannot… Does that make any sense? Have you heard something similar before? I haven’t…🤔🤨🙄

  5. @Cleopatra,

    🙂

    1. There’s no rectifying this poster’s incomplete education when she/he only relies on kdramas for knowledge. The poster must have watched too many series where a wandering murderous soul turned into stone then crumbled, instead of being escorted across the bridge to the afterworld. (Is this scene from “Hotel del Luna”? lol.)

    2. Stay away from posters like that. You either become dumb associating with them or get tired explaining things to them. I banned a few posters like that on this blog because they keep asking questions which they could have answered on their own if they only took the time to rewatch the darn drama. The rewind button should be their friend.

    3. How does this poster explain karma if evil people don’t reincarnate?

    4. In a nutshell, reincarnation is a process in which the soul achieves perfection. Depending on how virtuous or vicious the previous life was lived, the soul is reborn to rehabilitate itself, correct previous mistakes, gain good karma and ultimately, escape the endless rebirth cycle by attaining divine status.

  6. Note:

Remember in Ep 4 (at 5:08 mark) when JoonOh collapsed on the hospital floor and DoHa’s soul was seen emerging from the body?

It happened again in Ep 5 at the end. JoonOh suddenly fainted. YoungHwa felt for his pulse but found none. Then Doha in his disembodied form came out of the body.

It makes sense. JoonOh is dying. When he dies, the soul departs the body. That’s why DoHa emerges from the body and floats in space. He has to “vacate” the host body he’s dwelling in.

  7. Note 2.

    There’s a subbing error too.

DoHa explained to his assistant/manager that Han Rita had been through 19 reincarnations, and Kang YoungHwa was the 19th form.

DoHa then said, “I’ve been reincarnated 18 times, but not a single person remembered me.”

    That’s incorrect. 🤦🏼‍♀️

He hadn’t reincarnated yet. That’s why he was seen in the same purple robe for 1500 years.

What he meant to say is he had lived through HAN RITA’S reincarnation 18 times, but not one of her reincarnations remembered him till the 19th one – this current one.

His manager said, “If you found someone who remembers you correctly in the 19th time, shouldn’t you be happy?”

    He got a point there.

  8. Kalimera @Packmule3!

You are right of course. At first she / he was so certain that I said, wait a minute, do they know something I haven’t read? 🙄 But then I totally forgot it until I read your comment above.

I agree, there are people you can have a conversation with, but that doesn’t apply to everyone!

Regarding reincarnation I have read what you have written in your point No.4. At the end of that endless cycle, the soul reaches Nirvana.

  9. @Packmule3!

Thank you for writing your Note 2. It was the part I wanted to discuss as well! I thought that the translation was wrong as well and confusing!

DoHa lived along with all the Han RiTa’s reincarnation as a wandering spirit. The only reincarnation who could see him was Yeong Hwa’s. So for me that is significant.

Another thing wanted to write about is: the lotus seed.

After we have watched the seeds blooming, I think that Yeong Hwa’s bracelet will bloom as well! If that blooms, doesn’t that mean their relationship will bloom as well?

For some reason, I have the impression that Young Hwa’s bracelet will save both of them from the Evil Stepfather’s spirit.

Also, the Monk kinda knows something. I mean he basically said that the Talisman was not made by him, but it was given to him to pass it over to Young Hwa?

Is there a prophecy? Who made that bracelet from the seeds DoHa gave to Han RiTa?

Because I am pretty certain that we watched the flashback from the Silla period in order to realize that the lotus seed in Young Hwa’s bracelet was one from the seeds DoHa gave to RiTa.

So, the lotus seeds / flower has definitely a meaning here.

Because lotus flower is a very sacret plant, that it is “considered a symbol of (re)birth, self-realization and spiritual enlightenment.”

When you meditate you are in the lotus pose. So, I think this will be used further in the story.

Maybe after their bet of 1.000 years, DoHa will find his spiritual enlightement and will be free from his suffering…

    (More Here: https://www.rituals.com/eng-gr/mag-spirituality-meaning-lotus-flower.html)

  10. Episode 6

Seriously, they have taken so many oaths and bets in that Silla reincarnation that it is not weird at all, that Doha is a lost soul attached to Han RiTa /Yeong Hwa.

Finally, she knows that she was his wife…

And I was right, that lotus talisman was made by Doha… 😁😁😁

The Monk knows more that he admits to both of them…

I am curious to know when the Baddie will be made known to them.

As for that awful actress who claims that she is Joon On’s girlfriend. I am waiting for the downfall…

  11. I watched episode 5 – so the monks do play an active role in achieving karmic resolution. Perhaps it is explained in episode 6 but I took the yellow talisman as the immediate cause of Jun-oh/Do-ha’s death (other than his death sentence disease). I like how the story is tying together the plot elements from the past and the present day like the lotus seeds. Interesting information @Cleopatra!

  12. I can’t get enough of this story.

The jump in episode 6 to the wedding/marriage, I missed how that came to be and an wondering if it will be further shared? I assume she got caught escaping and this was the only result, but it seems not so because why didn’t the father insist on this in the beginning.

Also how can I get the password for the latest Castaway Diva commentary?

  13. I think we are getting this story in bits and pieces. Not sure how I feel about this. I am feeling somewhat distant from the romance which might be purposeful? Hopefully it will all fall into a coherent emotionally engaging story.

  14. The middle parts of dramas are often where I drop as the exposition gets drawn out – I do think this drama could be tighter but I will keep watching.
    Random thoughts –
Doha is not particularly likable – he is selfish, unemotional and threatening in the modern era. In the historic era – one could say that he is a product of his times but he kills his body guard to protect Ri Ta in addition to killing her mother and family members (as traitors) in addition to all of the battle deaths. In the historic era he is at least conflicted and weary – in the modern era he is kind of a jerk.

Him and his superpowers – ugh! Doha breaking the glass at the temple and turning off the lights on the bridge are a little too much for my taste. If he had such powers it seems he could have resolved his fate sooner. I prefer him as a troubled spirit but still bound my the laws of physics and gravity i.e. no special powers.

Jun-Oh is presumably dead and that is why his body is being used by Do ha. Does this mean the older CEO is also dead and his body is being used by the evil step/adoptive father? Did the CEO die in the fire when FL first rescued him and his dog?

I originally thought that the big brother was slightly sinister – I do think he has made deals to protect his younger brother but I no longer believe he is sinister. There is a back story with the former CEO that still needs to play out. Another mystery is her father and his relationship to the mountain where the temple is located and to the monks.

The main question – why she killed him in their first incarnation appears to be the question he needs answered to achieve peace. Is her reason going to be like Destined for You or something else? What will a final resolution look like? Are they going to erase the memories of the two leads so they have a happy ever after or will Doha finally rest, Jun-oh die and Young Hwa go off to Antarctica like she always dreamed.

  15. BoDs hello!

That subbing error really confused and shocked me, like how is that possible that he reincarnated but is also a lingering vengeful ghost?! But going by this logic, this would answer that design choice being like the pond with stepping stones hehe 😂 It’s so bizarre and kinda impossible still.

I’m really curious on how and why Han Rita made that choice of killing her now husband. With how Yeonghwa described her feelings for Sir Doha in her dreams, I would assume Rita has loved Doha. Is her vengeance really that strong? After killing Doha, I’d assume she killed herself after… I don’t know, their history really hurts.

Also, what is the significance of the 19th reincarnation? There’s also the kdrama “See you in my 19th Life”. Will reincarnation stopped in 20th or something?

Wishing for Doha to finally achieve his goals and have inner peace so him and Rita/Yeonghwa can be together in the next life.

  16. Same here, @LeeDale9198. I want to know what made RiTa decide to kill DoHa.

I believe after she killed him, she committed suicide by falling off a precipice.

I still have to write my notes on Eps 5 & 6. Wait for them. 🙂

  17. Thank you @Good Twin!

  18. @Packmule3 and @LeeDale,

My hunch says that the Evil StepFather threatened her with something.
That’s why he became an evil spirit in the first place. He was resentful and jealous of DoHa.

What I am not that sure about is, did they kill him first or not?

Did the StepFather said anything to the King about Han RiTa’s lineage?

    Those thoughts I am having…

  19. Episode 7

The evil step-dad is targeting Han RiTa / Young Hwa all along. It won’t be a surprise if he was the one who killed her parents in the past.

So far, the evil step-dad orchestrated all these, in order to come closer to Joon Oh’s Hyung and manipulate him as he likes and to turn him against DoHa…

Oh boy, when are they going to realize he is the baddie?

  20. I just noticed Younghwa’s bday falls on June 12th. That’s Philippines’ Independence Day 😃. Hoping for our leads to be freed from their trauma on that day!

Rita has every chance to kill Doha but she can’t bring herself to do it. Aside from revenge, another reason for her to kill him is for him to be finally free from the shackles of his adoptive father.

Episode 7 really showed us how Rita is now loving Doha. She was waiting for him to come back in one piece. She was devastated that Doha have to suffer from his father because of her.

  21. Our leads haven’t met the baddie evil ghost of the father. Maybe on they’d finally clash on Ep 8.

I’m wondering tho, depending on how he resents or love his brother, Min-o could really make it of break it for the ill-fated couple.

  22. Big brother should have tried “the quiz” (testing him with an old memory) with CEO Seok too before falling for his manipulations.

  23. Episode eight is my favorite episode so far. They are relating to each other as the people they are in the present. And he is beginning to like her More. I can see a way out of doha’s fixed conclusion that he has to kill her. Now the threats are more external to the couple.

  24. Kalispera @Packmule3!

Can you open the latest thread 9-14? Thank you in advance!
