Moon in the Day: Eps 1 to 4 Open Thread

The thread is open.

Remember the transmigration of souls.

The actor, Kim Young Dae, will play two characters:
Do Ha, a noble warrior during the Silla era, who was killed by his beloved wife, Ha Ni Ta, and
Han Jun Oh, a top star in modern day Korea.

Do Ha’s vengeful soul enters Han Jun Oh’s body following a car crash.

The actress, Pyo YeJin, will also play two characters:
Ha Ni Ta, a daughter of the enemy attacked and killed by Do Ha during the Silla period, and
Kang Young Hwa, a bodyguard to Han Jun Oh.

Ha Ni Ta saves Han Jun Oh from a fatal car accident but then Do Ha’s soul takes over his body.

Clearly, for this kdrama to end happily-ever-after, it’s up to the modern-day characters to stop the cycle of vengeance and give their souls a rest.

Let’s enjoy the show!

Sorry to be testing in more than 1 thread… testing to see if I get Subscription email after I cleared my cache and restarted my browser.

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m now trying to post using a different browser to see what happens. 😅🫣🤭

@pkml3 … Still no emails come in. I don’t think I have any control over getting the emails. It’s probably at the email server end that there’s some problem. I’ll just try on and off.

  4. Kalimera @Packmule3,

I will be checking this one, but I don’t know if I will keep up. There are so many shows to follow… o.O

    I will try…

  5. After two episodes I am interested. It is different enough from some Other reincarnation stories. I am hoping the drama will portray the complexity of each character and the complexity of their relationship. So far, despite scenes from the past. We do not have a very clear story about what happened in the silla era. I like how scenes from the two times are interwoven.

  6. Kalimera Everyone!

I have to say that the start was pretty solid and I really like how we get to see those snipets of the past in the Silla period interwoven in the present. Even though Kang Young-Hwa is in another reincarnation -currently 19th?, still there is a part of her let’s say essense or psyche that comes out for DoHa to see and remember their story together…

Let us see how that will go!

  7. Hello!

    Episode 3:

I wasn’t bored at all while I was watching tonight’s episode. To be honest with you, I was so invested to what I was happening, that I paused it and I saw that I had 10 minutes left!

And let’s get to the important part!!!

What a cliffhanger! Things are leveling up!

    *More tomorrow… ! *winks*

  8. Kalimera Everyone!

Let us see what is happening in the Moon in the Day. As we know it is based on a webtoon, but the webtoon readers on MDL say that it is not an adaptation, rather the scriptwriter took elements from the webtoon and changed it to his / her own accord.

What do we know so far up until Episode 3.

    Silla Timeline

DoHa is a noble man and he was fighting for Silla against Gaya. He killed the Gaya’s General who was also Han Ri-Ta’s father. Then he capture the general’s family and he thought he killed his daughter too. That was not the case. Han RiTa survived because her mother hid her.

We do know that Han Ri-Ta tried to kill DoHa at his home and he wounded her. We do know that they got married at some point because they fell in love with each other. At the same time, they had to hid because someone was after them.

At that part, Ri-Ta killed DoHa and he became an evil spirit as he couldn’t move on.

Now that Episode 3 is out, we do know that another evil spirit is out and about targeting both of them. That Evil Spirit seems to be the General from Silla that DoHa was referring to? We don’t know that much yet.

    Present Timeline

DoHa has stayed with Ri-Ta’s reincarnations for 1.500 years and couldn’t move on in the afterlife. He has a love to hate you relationship with her. We get to see that he truly loves her, but he hates her for killing him.

Han Joon-O is an actor. Physically he resembles DoHa, but his soul is of another person. We know that he is terminally ill and that someone tries to kill him.

In the first attempt, Joon-O flatlines and dies. At that time DoHa entered his body and took over. Did really Joon-O’s soul leave the body though? Because we get to see glimpses that DoHa has with Joon-O’s past memories. Is JO’s soul still in the body or the body has memory? BTW, we have discussed that before in another show that I can’t remember which one is.

Kang Young-Hwa in this life, maybe her 19th, is a firefighter. She is treated for past trauma, because in her dreams she gets to see snipets from that Silla life she cannot remember when she wakes up. I think this has to do mostly with DoHa being around her.

What we found out yesterday is that that Silla General has become an evil spirit and he is the one who is targeting both. Since he is an evil spirit he can recongnize that DoHa took over Joon O’s body. So, he has realized that Young Hwa is Ri-Ta’s reincarnation, so he is targeting her as well.

From the nightmare Young Hwa had, my theory is the following:

As it seems that Silla General wanted Ri-Ta for himself. We don’t know if that happened before they were married with DoHa, but it is evident that he framed DoHa for something and made them fugitives. That’s why they were hiding that night.

As for why Ri-Ta killed him, most likely, she did so to end their misery? I don’t think it was only for revenge at that point. She had genuine feelings for him as well.

So, what really happened in the end of the Episode 3?

The General’s evil spirit hypnotized Goo Tae-Joo to kill Han Joon-O / Do-Ha and Kang Young-Hwa.

Young Hwa was injured instead and that “opened” her soul’s archives. Young Hwa will be able to recover her memories regarding that Silla past life / reincarnation. After all, that General is after them and they need to deal with him.

So, after those three episodes, we get to understand that DoHa didn’t go to the Afterlife, not because of Ri-Ta’s action as he believes all this time. That General is an evil spirit himself and they have to end that ill fated relationship they all have together.

The thing is DoHa is falling in love with Young Hwa in this lifetime again. She is also very protective of him and I think that is because her soul truly remembers DoHa and her feelings for him.

I am very excited for this show…! Let us see how the Past – Present Timelines will be presented, now that Young Hwa will remember Ri-Ta’s life.

  9. This is great review, @Cleopatra!

You made me watch Eps 1 to 3. I’ll watch Ep 4 then write my commentary.

  10. Kalispera @Packmule3!

I am glad you liked it! When I read your comment you made smile! I will be waiting for your commentary patiently!

I was thinking during the day why the Silla General became an evil spirit as well.

Was he an evil person? Most likely he was. We get to see that he was feared from everyone in Young Hwa’s nightmare.

I also think that he wanted RiTa for himself and he might have assaulted her. Afterall, both DoHa and Rita were in bloody garments that night those people were after them.

Did DoHa kill the General? Did Rita kill the General?

But why RiTa decided to kill DoHa if he protected her from that Silla General’s assault? I mean okay, we know she wanted to avenge her parents. She also loved DoHa, before she killed him, she told him “I love you, Nari.”

If one of them killed the Silla General it makes sense, why he targets Joon-O. JO might have been DoHa’s reicarnation, but when DoHa entered his body, that evil spirit was certain and made his third attempt on him.

I have so many questions and it has been a while that a show made me curious about its plot!

    Let us enjoy Episode 4!

P.S. I remembered when we discuss about if the body has memory after a soul leaves it or not. It was of course in Alchemy of Souls Season 1.

  11. Episode 4

So the evil spirit that I was referring to as the Silla General in my comments above is DoHa’s father who adopted him back in the Silla period.

    😳🤯

  12. @Cleopatra 🙌 I too am enjoying this drama. ML is really good at these period dramas. His deep voice and way of speaking in pronouncements are effective in conveying power, gravitas, and sadness. I loved the table read scene. I like FL too in this role. Weirdly this show is similar to the soap opera Perfect Marriage Revenge in that the FL and possibly the ML too in PMR (don’t know yet) are reincarnated versions of themselves.

  13. Hey @GoodTwin!

I am glad you are here too… I am really enjoying this drama!Yes, I have noticed Pyo Ye Jin too since the “Taxi Driver” days!

I have heard that “Perfect Marriage Revenge” is pretty good. It is a makjang, right?

The thing is that November and December will have so many shows out and some are quite interesting to watch and there is not enought time. So, I am choosing what to see for now. With that said, I need to catch up with “The Matchmakers” and watch the first two episodes of “Viginante”. Nam Joo Hyuk is pretty good there I have heard!

  14. Oh my, way too many shows to watch. I just watched episodes three and four of moon in the day and now am captive.

I had many of the same ideas as mentioned above. I was not clear though that it was his father who Is the vengeful ghost.

So far it is moving along in the way I had hoped. I think the focus will be their relationship In the present and in the past. I had started watching See you in my 19th life But lost interest a few episodes in. I had even tried reading the manhwa -A new experience for me.

This far in and I can imagine this show being top rated. Let’s hope that will be the case.

  15. @Monmor and Cleopatra – two comments:
    1. Jun-oh/Do-ha’s older brother – at one point he says to Jun-oh “in your next life come back as the older brother..”. Basically telling him that he suffers with worry for him as the older brother. That was a moving line and moment – but he does seem slightly sinister. He is reminding me of the villain music producer in My Lovely Liar. What is the older brother’s secret?

    2. When Kang Young Hwa kills Do-ha it comes as a surprise. For any Buffy fans it seems similar to the curse against Angel that if he ever experienced a moment of true happiness his soul would be taken. Earlier Young Hwa realizes that Do-Ha is weary of life and doesn’t care if he lives or dies – so her killing him will not punish him for killing her family or the Gayan people. Did she wait until he had a moment of happiness with her so it was true revenge or was there another reason she killed him?

  16. I haven’t thought too much about his older brother. Your comments make me wonder about a secret too.

It will be interesting to see how they explore The duality of doha in the actor’s body. There was one scene in the hospital room where it seemed like doha came out of the actor’s body. The scene where he does the heavy sageuk speech was fun. How much of the actor is still there?

I haven’t watched buffy although I almost started it a while back. I am so totally into Korean shows that I can barely contemplate watching something that is not korean.

I really can’t see yet how their relationship in the past leads to marriage. There is a lot for us to learn. Somebody On the internet said they were married, but Do we know this from the show yet?

  17. I am thinking about doha’s Father, who clearly is jealous of both his accomplishments in war and perhaps gets jealous about his relationship with the female lead. I wonder if the current day brother somehow fits in here.

I need to reRead some of the above posts, I noted as I was scrolling through.

  18. spoiler
    spoiler

Is the man with the dog she rescued in the fire in the first episode the vengeful spirit? Producer Seok?
