Put Your Head on My Shoulder: Ep 17 @GrowingBeautifully’s Comments

Re-posting here.

Kiss – Yes this is their 3rd and finally an intentional kiss while stone sober. I thought it was a really weird (uncomfortable) set up for a kiss, but maybe since kisses can be given names (‘Cola kiss’ in Lie to Me for instance), the Writer may have wanted to coin it a ‘Refrigerator Kiss’ or something … as long as it was not a ‘frigid’, ‘rigid’, or ‘cold fish’ kiss … I’m NOT complaining!! 😝

Necking with a giraffe is hazardous to one’s neck health! 🤣 Lucky she never had to kiss Fu Pei who’s even taller!!!

As in the case of Mo Mo’s version of head on shoulder compared to GWY’s version, we have their different versions of painful neck. Heh!

Fu Pei will have to do manner legs.

I youtube’d the “Cola kiss” in Lie to Me and it was too messy for me. I wouldn’t be able to keep my mind on the kiss knowing that there was spilled liquid on the hardwood floor.

Even the refrigerator kiss is not feasible in my kitchen because our refrigerator has a warning alarm when the doors are left open too long.

But I understand why Gu WeiYi did it there and continued to kiss her there even though the friend might walk in on them any minute. It’s a bit like that office kiss in Love O2O.

In both kiss scenes, there was a heightened tension from being caught kissing in public. It added to the sexual excitement. lol. I think this might be a new trope in kissing. Embarrassed or frightened to be caught kissing, the girl would momentarily struggle out of the kiss. The guy, however, wouldn’t mind getting caught so he’d continue to kiss her.

She’d be inhibited whereas he’d be bold.

Wang Shan – I think she was put into this show to annoy the viewers and to show what an angel of patience Mo Mo is, and how GWY can retaliate and protect Mo Mo even from her friends. She was also conveniently handy to help get rid of FP permanently, although it would have been a faster exit for FP if only she had not meddled in being a martyr and throwing FP together with Mo Mo again and again.

I really liked that GWY overrode Shan’s bossiness and gave Mo Mo permission to eat any way that she liked. It was a great sign of how he had compromised from early on, contrasting with his freaking cleanliness at first. A true sign of his regard for Mo Mo.

Wang Shan is the kind of girlfriend that a guy like Fu Pei needs: a cross between a caring mother and an overbearing battle-ax.

I love the way STM looked at Wang Shan after GWY told her to use her hands to eat. She knew she was off the hook because of GWY’s say-so.

I like the way he signaled her to get rid of their unwanted guest.

First Night – I cringed and LOLed by turns over that scene. Him contorting himself out from under her and she obviously no longer resting on anything, with oddly tilted ‘levitated’ head? LOLOL.

Here. I made a gif of that moment.

I didn’t know who was more adorable here: GWY because of the way he gingerly extricated himself or STM because of the way she faked her sleep. He already told her to stop pretending but she still kept at it. I would’ve burst out laughing the second that he called me out.

After Shan leaves – I thought it was so cute that as soon as they closed the door on Shan, our lovebirds continue with their date, almost as if they had not been interrupted … what Shan had interrupted was the kiss… but they’d gotten that out of the way in front of the fridge, so now they continue without any more delay, back to holding hands on the sofa and snacking in front of the TV. 🤣

hahaha. You’re right!  You’d think they had something planned for that day. But they just wanted to veg out in front of the TV.

GWY Improvements – We keep seeing GWY learning and improving in areas which are linked to Mo Mo. In bringing her to work instead of just saying an inane goodbye, figuring out how to grab her hand coolly (yes, as you say with the cold being the excuse), texting her and showing up to fetch her at the office lobby. Also picking up table tennis and skateboarding later. I just thought it was a little one-sided, although I guess Mo Mo has been written to not have too many flaws that she needed to fix.

Pity GWY didn’t think to reply to her text to confirm his going to fetch her. However it gave her a chance to show that she trusts him.

Yes, it is pretty lopsided right now in this episode. GWY has been doing all the courting and he’s the one driving their relationship forward.

In this episode, STM had the opportunity to initiate something but as it turned out, the activities she chose — physical exercise and ping-pong where things GWY wasn’t interesting in doing. ha! How would she feel if GWY did bring her to the library or to a science and technology center on their date yesterday?

But the reason we’re not complaining much is because it’s obvious that the point of this romcom is to make GWY (and the actor portraying him) into a some sort of heartthrob. lol. We get it. He’s boyfriend material because he’s doing whatever it takes to please STM.

Lovely Contrast – I like your interpretation of what ‘lovely contrast’ means. The true lovely contrast was GWY trying to be such a man for Mo Mo while childishly playing with his robot cleaner like it was a pet.

Standing beside the actor, GWY is a lovelier (or handsomer) contrast anyway.

GWY and his electronics obsession!! He reminds me of my brothers who like to tinker with gadgets. STM should give him small projects to work on.  She has her Doraemon obsession; he can have his electronics.

Easter Egg – Another sad miss for GWY in his constant attempts to do ‘romantic’ things. Mo Mo is not the most observant and totally missed the hand holding of the jacket and sweater. But she gets permission to to rifle through GWY’s wallet and sees her meal card photo in it.

Instead of being pleased that he has her photo in his wallet, she goes off tangent wanting to know how he got it. Her reaction was more as if he had another girl’s photo in there! Truly her memory over photos and leaving her meal card behind could do with some improvements!!! She also really needs to be more observant! 🙄

I wonder why he refused to tell her where he had gotten her photo from, and why he smiled when she kept asking about it.

Oh yes! I forgot about this scene. GWY’s “romantic” FAILS have become a running gag in this show.

He set this up beautifully.

He told her to pick up her clothes from the living room and she came out grumbling that she wasn’t a maid. She missed his beautiful handiwork because she just grabbed her sweater. lol. (Next time, he should place her sweater on the FAR side of the couch so she’d have to walk across.)

She sabotaged her own romantic moment.

This reminded me of the snowman.

And the dinner by candlelight in Episode 15.

She turned on the lights

and ruined his romantic plan to light the candles in a heart arrangement as soon as she reappeared.

Then, to top it all, she APOLOGIZED for ruining her own surprise.

Sigh.

Mo: Gu Wei Yi, do you have money? My bus card is running out of credit, give me RMB2.
WY: The wallet is in my pocket. Take it yourself.
Mo: (seeing her photo in his wallet) Gu. Wei. Yi!

WY: (coming out of his room immediately) What’s wrong?

Mo: (showing him the picture) Where did you get this?

WY: (evasively) I printed it in front of the restaurant.

Mo: Where did you get it?

She meant “how did you get my picture from my meal card?”

WY: I don’t know. (grabs wallet) I’m giving you RMB5.
Mo: Gu Wei Yi, say it clearly. (or “explain it properly.”) Gu Wei Yi. Gu Wei Yi!

He smiled as he walked away.

I think he was smiling because he knew that she’d never figure it out. He committed a “perfect crime.”

In a way, he was also getting back at her for forgetting that they had taken a couple picture at the beach. In Episode 16, he got annoyed with her because she had a short memory. How could she have forgotten that picture?

Well, now he was gleeful that she had a short memory. He would never disclose that he took that picture when she left her ID in the cafeteria. To me, he wanted her to stew in her own juice, for a change.
