Poem a Day: What Would Oppa Do?

lol.

This is just a follow up to my earlier post to PaperClip.

I said that in Episode 8, Dr Ye’s behavior left me UNDERwhelmed.

BoYoung told him that she was upset that MinHo blurted out a secret about them.

If he saw BoYoung as a GIRLfriend, then he should have approached MinHo and talked to him man-to-man about his behavior with BoYoung. Instead, he was PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE with MinHo. Then, afterwards, he did this:

lol. He had a crisis of conscience. He dithered like DefCon. Fangirls thought that was cute but they missed the significance. I’m telling YOU all here that’s a dealbreaker. It reeks of JH’s wishy-washy character in Episode 9 of Reply 1988 when he had to “cross the line” and he didn’t. This time, it was about the “point of no return” or a DECISIVE moment. Dr. Ye just failed it. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜±πŸ˜‚πŸ€“

I further pointed out that in the previous incident, an Oppa showed how HE would behave and protect his GIRLFRIEND if his girlfriend came running to him. He would defend her. This scene is from Episode 7.

This Oppa overreacted. lol.

But the writer and the director already SHOWED us what the appropriate behavior of an Oppa was.

MinHo did it back in Episode 4. Remember this?

The grandmother and doctor had upset BoYoung and MinHo went in search for her. He tried to make her feel better. He asked her what she would like him to do for her and he’d do it.

The thing is in these romcoms, the girl will end up with the guy who goes to bat for her at crunch time. Minho is the true Oppa in this show. Make no mistake about it.

The scriptwriter and the director know it.Β

  1. That moment when Jae Wook was conflicted thoughπŸ˜‚ you are right..that was the deal breaker which again reminded me of Reply 88 when the guy was too slow to confess his feelings..
Anyway..the writer could be trolling us but hoping not. I really see Minho as the endgame here. He can be childish at times or tiring towards BY but then we saw his back story with his parents so maybe he is like acting to attract attention but then with BY where he got lots of attention he was like i don’t need it thank you very much. But just as pointed out he knows when to stop teasing and be there for BY in his little ways.

Thanks again for wonderful analysis. Always right on point.

  2. Wait, we don’t have all of his backstory. I think he rejected BoYoung the first time around in college because of something BoYoung said/did when she was drunk. πŸ™‚
I’ll tell you my “theory” in a post tomorrow. I haven’t finished writing it but it’s bedtime for this old witch.

  3. Also, we can only consider the writer to be “trolling” audience if a lot of the audience saw the connection with Reply 1988. But so far, it’s only us here in this blog who could see it. πŸ˜‰

For most of the viewers, they only thought Dr. Ye was “cute” and that this moment was a DefCon replica.

People haven’t realized yet (Good! I don’t want them to know) that his hesitation is very much similar to JH’s hesitation.

Dr. Ye actually told himself in the mirror, “Don’t meddle. You’re trying to avenge BoYoung” as if avenging BoYoung was a bad thing. What a doofus. lol.

  4. @packmule and @mslee1107 i warn u, dont be fooled by scriptwriter. we have to be careful ! lol
remember other scriptwriter was once messing with tkil (half till end eps)with reference similiarity character with reply series.

  5. πŸ˜‚ I know. I wanted to move the boyfriend-o-meter all the way to Kiss Already! just to bug the Ye Liners but I restrained myself. It seems like my blog’s been spotted. πŸ˜‚

  6. “For most of the viewers, they only thought Dr. Ye was β€œcute” and that this moment was a DefCon replica.” I think I was too busy laughing at that scene to see any connection with the way that oppa overreacted in “defending” his girlfriend. But it was obvious Ye wasn’t acting like a boyfriend, still in his oh so righteous attitude. The way he was petty to MinHo looked like the way he’s rude while giving advice to Dr Kim & the rest after they do something unfair. It’s him being righteous in front of them. With MinHo he just went way too far so that’s why he felt the need to pull a righteous moment to himself in the mirror.

  7. self-righteous as usual. And the poem “Height” may apply to him in a different way. Sure, it can be interpreted in a romantic sense (because he is the “lead”) but it can be viewed in relation to his former chief, who had a hard time because of him. But Dr Ye was only concerned about himself and of course the patient THAT he forgot about his colleagues who were also innocently, indirectly hurt by his taking a rigid position. He MUST do what is RIGHT at all times…but he forgot about the people in the sideline.

AND THAT’s how his story relates to DefCon and JoYoung’s minor story. Defcon himself was so sure that there was an injustice/wrong done (and there was…), that he forgot that there’s more to it than fighting for a cause/injustice/principle. There’s another side, too, that he didn’t anticipate (i.e., his own attitude when it was HIM who was injured. There are unforeseen, rippled effects from the rigid decisions/stances made by Defcon and Dr. Ye, in particular,

    πŸ™‚

So Dr. Ye should stop being sanctimonious…. lol. (sorry, couldn’t help taking one more potshot at him.)

  8. @lovebangwon how can i forget that drama that trolled us until the end? I can’t even rewatch it! Anyway between Minho and JW although Minho is childish at times i still prefer him than “righteous” Dr. Ye. He always think he had a right to give advices to others. And what’s with the ex still hanging around? Sorry haven’t watched ep 10 so not sure if the ex is still lingering around him. I think he has not moved on from the pain he got from her. He has not collected all his emotions and putting a closure yet that is why he is hesitant and definitely unsure what to make / do with/ BY. Minho finally realized what BY is all along. Or like @packmule3 had said something must have happened between those friendly atmosphere and her confession. Ergo the rejection. Waiting for the full flashback. Maybe writer is going to reveal that.
