Love O2O: Episode 10’s First Lunch Date

I promised to write about this Lunch Date in the Episode 10’s Swoon-worthy Moments. but I have to post it separately because of the numerous pictures. Love O2O: Episode 10 Swoon Moments

I have to remember that this is the first time for both of them. I think he fared better than she did. He seemed more composed because we weren’t given his internal monologue like we were with Weiwei’s discombobulated thoughts.

However, the important thing to remember here is that this is a huge moment for Weiwei. Nai had months to get used to the idea of two people being one. But for her, she was, at that very moment, consolidating her feelings for HER online spouse Naihe with her admiration for THAT god-like senior Nai. So, of course, she was going to be more awkward that Nai; they were starting off from different points.

But I’ll give them a Couple Grade because from now on, they were a couple.

+10 He was friendly with the cook. I’m a firm believer that the way a person treats servers is a big indicator of his disposition.

+10 He served her first.

+10 He kept the conversation going, talking about his childhood.

This means that this restaurant is his “turf.”

-5 She smelled her food.

No, don’t do that, honey. Not in a restaurant and never at somebody’s dinner table. It’s rude to stick your nose in the food like you’re suspicious of its smell.  If you must compliment the aroma of the food, just do it without dipping your nose into the food and sniffing. You’re not a bloodhound.

+10 She remembered that they were in the same class together. “Yeah, I sat next to you once.” He answered, “I know.” She wondered, “‘I know’? What does that mean? I guess for someone like him, ordinary people don’t really exist.”

lol. She thought he was being dismissive and meant to say, “Sure, whatever.” What he meant was yes, of course, he knew that they sat together because that encounter wasn’t accidental but planned. He plotted to sit beside her that day. So, in his eyes, ordinary people might indeed not stand out, but she wasn’t one of those “ordinary people”.

-5  Oh good lord!  Did he serve her fish head soup? He asked her if she ate fish, but he didn’t mention anything about fish HEAD. Isn’t this a bit too much on a first date?

If I were Weiwei, this would have been my reaction:

No, thank you. I can’t eat something that’s staring at me. Really.

Weiwei also wondered why he was offering her a big piece.”Was it because he was sick and tired of it?” When she looked at him, he just stared at her and tapped his head.

I didn’t get why he tapped his head. That stumped me. What was that gesture all about? Was he telling her that she needed to “think” more? Or that she needed to eat brain food?

+10 He replenished her soup. He noticed that she kept spooning more soup although her soup bowl was empty.

-5 She’s overthinking this date. Relax, girl.

She was busy forming her first impression of Nai. She thinks, “This Nai in front of me is so unlike the Naihe online. He seems more distant.”

“Forget about it. I heard both his parents are both academics. Maybe they have a house rule that one shouldn’t talk when eating.”

“Besides, the more I talk, the more I’m likely to make mistakes. I’ll save my energy for later. That’s right. Better be safe. I should focus on eating the fish.”

And that’s when he noticed that her soup bowl was empty.

+10 She’s nice with the cook too.

+10  Hurray!! They discovered that they have opposable thumbs. /sarc

+10  Thumb fight anyone??

-5 Taking a call at the dinner table without excusing himself. Tsk tsk tsk. Rude.

+10 She recognized his ringtone as the music for “The Musician and the Bandit.” She wondered if he’d been reminiscing about the days when he was kidnapped.

I don’t think so. The ringtone was more likely a reminder of how much WORK he’d put into the video just for her.

+10 He flatly told his friends that he was busy.

When they asked, “Busy doing what?” he answered coolly, “On a date.”

She choked because she didn’t think this was a date-DATE.

When his friends told him to bring her, he said that he’d ask if she was willing. I’m sure he wanted her to go because it was “Seniors Night” and everybody would be there. What better way to announce to the world that they were dating and to get her to stop mooning needlessly over that “Musician and the Bandit” video?

“Do you want to come see our last senior basketball game?”

+20 She nodded so he told his friends on the phone, “I’ll bring her in a bit.”

I’m giving her 20 points because it was easy to have said “Heck no!” Being introduced to the gang is always intimidating.

+10 For being reassuring. He told her to eat some more and not to be nervous. He’d go home to get his bike so they’d go together.

+100 I think he reserved the whole place for themselves.

They were there during lunchtime. Remember they had arranged their rendezvous at the East Gate for 11:35 am. But she arrived earlier than the appointed time. He did, too, because he didn’t want her to wait.

They talked a little bit then proceeded to the restaurant which was just near his residence. They couldn’t have gone far from the campus. They should have arrived at the restaurant around noontime. The restaurant should have busy with other lunch patrons.

But the whole place was empty except for themselves. See that??

That’s why he told Friend #1 that he bought Weiwei lunch and used up all his money.

What’s the score? lol.

  1. Hi! Sorry I’m only responding now. Saturday is always busy with house chores.

    Ooooohhhhh I love this! 😍😍😍

    Couple grade is 210! ☺️

Cracked me up, that fish head 😂😂😂 I thought it was a bit too much and I don’t eat fish head too, I always give it to Grandma or Mum. I think it is brain food. I didn’t know why he tapped his head too. I thought XN said that it’s good food to recover quickly from his concussion.

I’ll reply to the rest of the post when I get the time. We have (8) couples date night tonight.

I thought WeiWei did pretty well to get over her shocked that her online husband turned out to be the heartthrob of the campus. I guess her voice over are the reason for that. 😊

How nice to have the whole restaurant to yourselves. I’m sure WeiWei didn’t even think about that. Hopefully I get to experience that one day 😂✌🏼

Geez, there goes that smile again! 😍😍😍

  2. Couple grade is 210??!! How did that happen? lol.
Enjoy your couples’ date night!!! “Spread the lovin'”

  3. Oh I added their scores together 😂 Was I not meant to? 😬 I thought it was a couple grade 😂

I’m not sure about the spread the lovin coz we’re having korean bbq 😂

    Thanks 😘

  4. HAhahaha – about the fish head. I had no idea while watching the episode what he meant when he tapped his head but only figured it now when reading the fact that you mentioned the eye (I didn’t pay attention to the fact that it was a fish head there while watching). My bofriend is ALWAYS eating the eyes in fish claiming that it’s good for your brain.
Apparently Chinese people think so too
Found this “Beyond the best reason to eat fish eyes—they’re delicious—Chinese folks swear by their nutritional advantages as well. The eyeball is said to stimulate brain cells and stave off memory loss, ” https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/food/a19598699/you-should-eat-fish-eyes/

  5. 🤢 🤮 I’m glad I’m not eating breakfast today (Ash Wednesday) because you just made me lose my appetite.

What 👁 👁 eyeballs are you talking about?! You mean, Nai was GESTURING to her to eat the eyeballs of the fish head he gave her?!! I just can’t….🤯 think of anything grosser to eat on a first date. The head was bad enough but the 👁 👁 too?

    🤢🤮

Do I swallow them or do I grind them?

  6. I shouldn’t be laughing so hard, sorry :)))))
I can’t tell for sure what Nai was hinting at but it seems to be related to the fish head, so I guess.. it could be related to the eyes. Some people eat the eyes and love it. Boyfriend surely swallows them, no idea what other people do.
I guess finding them disgusting or delicious depends on what one was raised to believe.
Anyway, if both Nai & WeiWei were raised to believe fish heads or eyes or whatever are good for your brain, it’s kinda cute he’s trying to make her eat food they believe are good for them.

  7. hahaha. I’m sure this blog sounds bitchy AND ignorant to people who love fish eyes. Shhhh… don’t tell your Special Someone, okay?
I’ve seen those fish heads. But when ordering fish, we settle for the regular food that we know how to eat like sashimi. We don’t go for the more exotic fish heads and fish eyes.

But now, I’m trying to jog my memory to see if I’ve ever been served fish eyes, but I just didn’t know what they were. I probably thought they were white peppercorns floating in the soup or something. Ugh…

I’ve to eat fish, crustaceans and shellfish every Friday for Lent. Maybe I’ll expand our tastebuds and make a trip to our local Korean supermarket and buy a fish head. They sell whole fish there but I often ask them to fillet everything. If I’m cleaning the fish we caught during fishing, I simply lop off the head and take out everything inside the fish that isn’t white or pinkish.

But I can experiment with one fish head for starters….
