We’re heading out to watch the Rolling Thunder’s 31st “Ride to Freedom” so this will have to be quick.
1. The kiss
Is this their third kiss? They had the forgotten kiss, the ball pit kiss and now this fridge kiss.
lol. I thought she was complaining of a neck pain because they had been “necking” in front of the fridge.
WY: What happened to your neck?
Mo: It’s a little bit cold.
WY: I’ll close the balcony door.
Mo: No need. It isn’t because of the wind.
WY: I’ll close it.
Mo: I just stood in the front of the fridge too long.
lol. They can’t be in the same frame unless they’re both sitting down.
If you ask me, however, I think she got a stiff neck not because she stood in front of the cold fridge but because she kissed a giraffe…errr…a tall guy. Gu WeiYi should come with a health warning. Caution: Kissing a tall guy can be a real pain in the neck. 😜
My advice is next time they kiss, Gu WeiYi should cup her neck to support it while kissing her or he should kiss her against the wall so her head can lean back.
2. On being tactful
WY: (ordering Fu Pei) Pick her up in the morning.
Mo: Can’t you just be a little tactful?
WY: I was tactful.
Mo: Is that (meaning his words) called tactful?
WY: Of course.
Mo: Then what about tactless?
WY: “Your girlfriend is at my house. It’s annoying.”
“Annoying” is a kinder word than a cockblocker. Twice in a row, Shanshan has managed to upset his evening plans. Also, A man’s home is his castle and he’s right to feel that ShanShan invades his space uninvited.
3. Bullying his girlfriend
He didn’t like it when ShanShan smacked Situ Mo’s hand for touching oily food.
SS: Chopsticks please, it’s oily.
He gave ShanShan that WTF? look.
WY: Use your hands.
We should have expected this from this guy.
He’s always liked things neat and tidy but he joined her in eating the watermelon messily.
He saw her mom scolding her and calling her “freak” for her eating style…and he thought she was funny that she pushed back against her mom.
He learned to tolerate her eating the stinky river snail rice noodle.
He indulged her, too, with the beefsteak dinner, too. She said she wasn’t used to eating “exquisitely” or daintily, with a knife and fork. So she stood up and got them chopsticks. She then devoured the beefsteak like she was a hungry cavewoman ripping through bison meat.
Of course, he wouldn’t like it when ShanShan corrected Situ Mo’s table manners in his presence at their own home. He accepts Situ Mo the way she is.
4. His athletic shortcomings
This reminds me that we weren’t wrong to award Xiao Nai the Best Drama Boyfriend ever.
But looking on the bright side, Gu WeiYi was up to the challenge of learning new skills. He didn’t like looking less manly and “cool” in Situ Mo’s eyes.
5. Their first night together!
They slept like this:
It amuses me that Marge and Homer Simpson can be more lascivious that Situ Mo and Gu WeiYi.
Situ Mo seemed to be miffed about GWY’s neck pain.
Mo: (silently) Why did I close my eyes? When should I open my eyes so that I won’t look awkward? I should’ve pretended from the beginning. I guess my head is heavy.
GWY looked funny as he got out of their sleeping position.
WY: Situ Mo. Stop pretending. Do you feel pain on your neck?
Mo: (suddenly) I’m going to work.
He winced in pain.
Later, when she came out of her room, he offered her one of those heat patches for muscle sprain.
WY: Do you need the patch? (offering her)
Mo: No need.
WY: Help me then.
Mo: (hesitating) I…
Gu WeiYi handed it to her. He tugged his shirt collar down to expose a neck. Did she somehow turn into a vampire and find his neck too tempting to bite?
She looked at him in disbelief
then smacked it on him before saying that she was going to work.
Was she annoyed because she thought he was complaining that her “heavy” head rested on his shoulder the whole night and caused his stiff neck?
6. Holding hands
He’s getting smoother at this.
lol. I like the way that he uses the cold weather as a handy excuse for hand-holding. He learned this from their first date!! (lol. I’ll have to edit that episode and add this as a highlight then.)
7. Lovely contrast
Actor: Don’t wait. He’s not coming to pick you up. No reply means not coming. I’m a man; I know it.
Mo: (presses elevator button to close the door on him)
Actor: Hey! I let you off early! You shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you.
He was reminding STM that she should be grateful to him for getting her off work early instead of closing the elevator doors on him.
Mo: (simply smiling) Didn’t you say you’re big-headed? (or conceited)
Actor: I just wanted to appear big-headed to piss off Linda (his manager).
Mo: You’re so childish.
Actor: My fans used to call that “lovely contrast.”
I think he meant something like a “man-child”. Fans found it endearing that he was both childish and manly at the same time. STM ignored him and looked at her phone messages again.
Actor: Stop looking at it. I told you that he isn’t coming to pick you up.
Mo: He isn’t like you.
Actor: Why? He isn’t childish?
Mo: Childish?
She remembered him treating his robot vacuum like a beloved pet and she stifled a laughter.
Mo: Now, that’s a lovely contrast.
I think she implied that GWY is the authentic “lovely contrast,” not the actor.
I like how ecstatic STM looked when she reached the lobby and saw that GWY waiting for her. GWY proved the actor wrong. No reply does NOT mean he isn’t coming to pick her up. STM’s faith in GWY was rewarded.

Kiss – Yes this is their 3rd and finally an intentional kiss while stone sober. I thought it was a really weird (uncomfortable) set up for a kiss, but maybe since kisses can be given names (‘Cola kiss’ in Lie to Me for instance), the Writer may have wanted to coin it a ‘Refrigerator Kiss’ or something … as long as it was not a ‘frigid’, ‘rigid’, or ‘cold fish’ kiss … I’m NOT complaining!! 😝
Necking with a giraffe is hazardous to one’s neck health! 🤣 Lucky she never had to kiss Fu Pei who’s even taller!!!
As in the case of Mo Mo’s version of head on shoulder compared to GWY’s version, we have their different versions of painful neck. Heh!
Wang Shan – I think she was put into this show to annoy the viewers and to show what an angel of patience Mo Mo is, and how GWY can retaliate and protect Mo Mo even from her friends. She was also conveniently handy to help get rid of FP permanently, although it would have been a faster exit for FP if only she had not meddled in being a martyr and throwing FP together with Mo Mo again and again.
I really liked that GWY overrode Shan’s bossiness and gave Mo Mo permission to eat any way that she liked. It was a great sign of how he had compromised from early on, contrasting with his freaking cleanliness at first. A true sign of his regard for Mo Mo.
First Night – I cringed and LOLed by turns over that scene. Him contorting himself out from under her and she obviously no longer resting on anything, with oddly tilted ‘levitated’ head? LOLOL.
After Shan leaves – I thought it was so cute that as soon as they closed the door on Shan, our lovebirds continue with their date, almost as if they had not been interrupted … what Shan had interrupted was the kiss… but they’d gotten that out of the way in front of the fridge, so now they continue without any more delay, back to holding hands on the sofa and snacking in front of the TV. 🤣
GWY Improvements – We keep seeing GWY learning and improving in areas which are linked to Mo Mo. In bringing her to work instead of just saying an inane goodbye, figuring out how to grab her hand coolly (yes, as you say with the cold being the excuse), texting her and showing up to fetch her at the office lobby. Also picking up table tennis and skateboarding later. I just thought it was a little one-sided, although I guess Mo Mo has been written to not have too many flaws that she needed to fix.
Pity GWY didn’t think to reply to her text to confirm his going to fetch her. However it gave her a chance to show that she trusts him.
Lovely Contrast – I like your interpretation of what ‘lovely contrast’ means. The true lovely contrast was GWY trying to be such a man for Mo Mo while childishly playing with his robot cleaner like it was a pet.
Easter Egg – Another sad miss for GWY in his constant attempts to do ‘romantic’ things. Mo Mo is not the most observant and totally missed the hand holding of the jacket and sweater. But she gets permission to to rifle through GWY’s wallet and sees her meal card photo in it.
Instead of being pleased that he has her photo in his wallet, she goes off tangent wanting to know how he got it. Her reaction was more as if he had another girl’s photo in there! Truly her memory over photos and leaving her meal card behind could do with some improvements!!! She also really needs to be more observant! 🙄
I wonder why he refused to tell her where he had gotten her photo from, and why he smiled when she kept asking about it.

I admire WGY for kissing STM right there in the fridge. He really wanted to kiss her so bad and so after all the waiting, he just didn’t care that STM might have a stiff neck. LOL.
I felt weird too at the way STM reacted to seeing her pic in WGY’s wallet. I would have asked him ‘why this picture of me?’ instead of where did you get this photo. 🤦 Agree that she needs to be more observant. 🙂

Heheh! About the skateboarding … He learnt the ‘theory’ first and narrowed the gap that he commented there was between theory and practice. He was spouting a bunch of scientific stuff on how skateboarding works. 🙄
What’s the name of the characteristic (or disease!!) where a guy can’t bear for anyone else to be considered cool by his girlfriend? Well, GWY has got it in spades. Just because Mo Mo thought it was cool, he decided that he had to be accomplished on the skateboard (well he was not quite). Same thing with the almost pineapple hair!
The Fridge Kiss – I noted while I watched, that it was like he’d been waiting all night for the opportunity, so the first thing he does when he sees her the next morning is kiss her, cold fridge be hanged! 😂

I was 🙄 too when he was spouting those scientific stuff on skateboarding! I almost said he was boring 🤣 but I knew he wanted to impress STM very much. In the end with a skateboard in hand, he couldn’t hold her hand while walking. LOL!
I have to give him points for his efforts in everything even if it’s a hit and miss sometimes. Oh yeah I forgot about the pineapple hair. LOL!
Yes! He was waiting all night so first thing first when he saw her was to go for it. Who cares if she gets a cold afterwards. 🤣 He definitely had the urge! 😉

If I were STM, and I saw my picture in his wallet, I would have wondered how he got that picture of me, especially since we just started dating. Is he some kind of stalker??!! How long has he been stalking me? (haha) How did he get this picture? Did he have other pictures of me that I didn’t know? lol.
The skateboard scene was funny. Literally, that’s when the rubber meets the road or when theoretical ideas have to be tested in practice.
I was just glad that he didn’t break any bones!

I know it is messy and very sticky but it was the moment that was nice for me. I liked that he was teasing her too that it was her 2nd kiss. LOL. Trivia from that scene, they were supposed to have some cola then kiss. 🤣 They couldn’t do it so the end scene was that. hehehe
I just re-watched the cola kiss, and I know the parts I liked. I like that she gave almost as good as she got both in attacking with the cola and in the kissing. The best was when the camera focused on her moving in for the ‘3rd’ kiss on tip toe because she wanted to reach his lips. I liked how she held his face and kissed him thoroughly, after being teased for being a newbie at kissing. Of course it was great that he participated enthusiastically and looked like he wanted to continue for far longer, but took his cue from her when she stopped.
It was a great kiss scene for me 😍 They looked very comfortable with each other.
