Angel’s Last Mission: Love – @GrowingBeautifully’s Perspective on Rain

I’m posting your comments here, @growingbeautifully, so they’ll be easier to access later on.

I agree with all that’s been said. I remember when Dan mocked YeonSeo for becoming a grouch at sunset? He said, “You’ve got a beef with sunsets, don’t you? You have an especially big hissy fit whenever the sun sets. What is it? Were you dumped at sundown? Did you witness your first love cheating on you underneath the blazing sunset or something? Well?”

As it turned out, she disliked sunsets while he disliked storms. lol. Sunsets and storms. I guess the rainbow can signify that there’s still hope for them to become a match made in heaven.

I’ve a theory that the RAIN that is significant (and I’m not sure but it could also be those times during which Dan has angel-wing problems) is connected to Kang Woo and KW’s anger, negative vibes or whatever, and also in conjunction with Yeon Seo. In at least 2 instances, the 3 of them were near each other, or 2 of them were at loggerheads about Yeon Seo.

The first rain we saw when Dan was not yet assigned to YS was a rain that did not seem to wet both YS and Dan who sat on the same bench. Perhaps it was the advantage of being tuned towards heaven, and being more angel-like that kept Dan dry, and YS enjoyed that same privilege by being near him, but once he was given his assignment and made to become more human, he kept getting drenched.

I look forward to hearing your take on the RAIN. 😄

Re GB on the use of rain… in addition to the scenes she mentioned, rain is tied to fear and terror in young Dan’s life and death, and his awakening to beauty – rain provided a rainbow as background for YS’s dance for him when they were children.

@Flying Tool, yes, I’ve finally watched the episodes with Dan’s backstory and it now makes sense. As he becomes more human, the rain starts to bother him somewhat like in the way he was terrorized on rainy days. He said he never got out after the rain (maybe because he was so badly bruised!?) and so never got to see a rainbow, until that time YS danced for him on the beach.

The rainbow, as you probably know, has a lot of significance in the Bible. Not only is it beautiful, but it stands for the making of a covenant, (a promise that’s more than just a promise), the sign of a very close relationship.

On one level it is a sign of joy and clear skies again, but on a deeper level (if show really goes there), it is a sign of the bond between YS and Dan.

When they were children, YS knew Dan by his real name, Yoo Seong Woo. It was a name that he no longer knew or remembered as an angel. He was given a new name, as he was called to a new role (also a Biblical thing). Now that he’s been allowed to remember and find his real name, I’m thinking the way is being opened for him to return to his human life. The advice given by the dissipated angel Noel seems to be giving him the way to go.
So back in childhood, the children knew each other by their real names and had a real bond, and the sky was clear and beautiful. By contrast, when matters are not clear or good between them, or with Kang Woo, the rain often pops up, or down, rather!

    Thanks for this thread @packmule3!
I’m reposting from what I wrote on DB.

There’s a repeated theme of getting wet or getting drowned. As children YS shielded Dan from a big wave splash and from falling into the water. It was raining and she threw off her umbrella to save Dan. As adults, at various times they end up on the bridge over the river, sometimes together. While the first time on the bridge together, Dan gave YS the ‘breath of life’ when she thought of dying, this time she holds his hand to keep him from falling. However when we have Kang Woo on the bridge, he attacks Dan and both end up in the water.

Interestingly, both YS when she was blind, and Dan as a child, jumped/fell into the water and were almost drowned but survived. KW, however chose death by hanging or by overdosing on sleeping pills. He’s a different kind of fish LOL. In fact, speaking of fish, he seemed to have gotten himself out of the river without any problem, and his clothes even looked dry!!

YS and Dan are more in sync with each other, focusing more on the other, on positive things like giving and happiness. KW remains intent on carrying out his own personal mission and is mainly concerned that no one spoils things for him.

Dan ended up running away each time it rained because of his wing malfunction, and never actually shielded YS with an umbrella after all, I think? It was KW who held an umbrella for her twice, but in order to get her to work with him on his mission.

Dan, however, shielded YS from falling glass with his wings and without any agenda. Methinks big angel wings would make a good shield against rain and wind, and might keep a person warm too!!

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen those wings. I kind of miss them. 😝

  2. I’m working on explaining the death of the old woman right now so I’m glad you’re focusing on the rain. Will post later.
