The King: Falling in Love with Lee Gon, 3

Here were the other two. I said 17, right?

The King: Falling in Love with Lee Gon, part 1

The King: Falling in Love with Lee Gon, 2

****************

You must fall in love with a guy who cares about his girl’s modesty, but not his.

Gifs are from @boopkyoong’s tumblr. Thank you!

I swear. This is why I love Kim GoEun as an actress. Just by blinking her eyes, she made me believe that her character, TaeEul, just realized that Lee Gon meant being naked.

If you noticed, he packed just enough palm leaves for TaeEul. None for him. I took this to mean that TaeEul wouldn’t be walking naked, but he would. lol.

Seriously, though. I like that he didn’t mind at all that TaeEul didn’t dress up in frilly girly clothes. He didn’t attempt to change her into a more “feminine” woman.

In fact, when the Tae-ra the actress stumbled out of the van, he frowned.

When Tae-ra tried to flirt with him, asking for the flowers, he refused in that cold way of his, “It seems like you already received flowers. These flowers are not for you.”

He wasn’t falling for the glamorous version of TaeEul.

  1. Ref palm leaves, I like his little smile when he says ‘…the chances are slim but we should be prepared – ‘ What, like a boy scout? It made me wonder what else he had packed. 🤣😈

  2. Were you thinking what I was thinking?
    Contraceptives? Lol.

    Or maybe they shouldn’t… 😈

  3. I was thinking it was probably too late for that and why bother anyway? Fate, etc. I was thinking more along the lines of the packet from Eunsub’s pocket that promised stamina, a flask of whatever the drink was that Lady Noh offered. 😈

If not, perhaps some of the packaged kimchi Eun-sub and Jang-mi liked and a large portion of half & half because it couldn’t spoil in the NML. 🍗🍗🍗

  4. Nooo. Not that kimchi thing. How can they kiss each other with kimchi breath? 🤪🤢

But yes, the stamina soy-sauce-looking packet can be useful. Same with BBQ half and half. And the coffee drink.

See? The Product Placement, esp the food, worked with us. I didn’t see any chocolate PPL though. 🤨 There was one kdrama, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (or something) that featured Royce chocolate. Never heard of Royce chocolate before but it stuck in my head.

  5. Haha. I suspect that equal amounts of kimchi + alcohol means that it wouldn’t be so noticeable.

I also wouldn’t put it past Lady Noh to remove any contraceptives and replace them with hidden red packets in support of the ancestral shrine, right? And some green vegetables.

  6. Royce sounds like Rolls Royce, so would imply posh choccies. I just looked it up. It’s from Hokkaido and looks very upscale. And yes, I would.🍫

  7. No alcohol if she’s planning to conceive.

🤣🤦‍♀️ Oh! We’ll make terrible mothers-in-law. Too nosy.

  8. I do hope that you are closer to mother-in-law hood than I. But you are correct. Me, I shall have to emulate my own mother-in-law and take 10 steps back.

I forgot that the NML now looks windy, so perhaps the 1/2 and 1/2 won’t stay fresh there after all.

  9. Oh? It’s a Japanese company?!

I’ve never heard of it before that kdrama. Then I went on a trip shortly after that: Singapore and Manila. And gasp! I saw the branches! I didn’t know they were popular.

I’m looking forward to “Psycho but It’s Okay.” The actor Kim SooHyun isn’t my type but I watched his crying scene in “Moon Embracing the Sun” and I thought that was one heckuva groveling scene. He realized too late that the woman he’d been mistreating was the love-of-his-life-whom-he-thought-was-already-dead. (It’s a long story.)

    So he wept.

When I watched him cry, I felt like raising the white flag 🏳 of surrender because how could I hate him when he cried so heartbreakingly? 😖

I hate it when that happens.

  10. I doubt LG was so prepared as to bring contraceptive, he’s got his Queen so off with the heir production! 😂

Royce Chocolates is a must and it’s one of those chocolates I can pig out on and wouldn’t care if it goes to my waist. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just listening to OST and I came across an instrumental called Hydrangea. It’s so lovely. I’ll rank my top 3 songs by today. ☺️

It has to be a grovelling and heartbreaking cry right? 😜

  11. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Lee Gon who gives his girlfriend Peace of Mind
Adding to the 17 things or more…
Ep 10 – I like LG’s reciprocity. He had read the searches that TE had made on his phone, so when he left the phone with Jo Yeong, he made sure to leave behind a message in the saved search terms, knowing that his faithful JY would pass it on. So sweet.
    LG’s searches:

“Want to see what I’ve been looking up?
A king never leaves any traces.
Are you working now or just doing day-to-day stuff?
To me, every moment in your world was scandalous
    Because of Lieutenant JTE.”

Meaning, I guess, that because of her, he was prepared to do any scandalous thing, even to leaving traces of himself where he shouldn’t, just for her. This ties in with his other action of leaving himself in her memories. It was similar in that it was in order to let her know he had been thinking of her and also a way to tell her not worry about him. This message in the searches also spoke of how much she meant to him. Her peace of mind, allaying her missing him, and making her feel loved, were his reasons for breaking the rules. Gotta love that kind of boyfriend!!!

  12. O my goodness, TKEM is a gift that keeps on giving…I guess it fits with the whole time looping, eternal concept for the drama. I come back and there’s multiple posts about LG. 😂 And more to come…he’s going to be hard to top as a bf. How can future mere mortals in dramaland even hope to compete?

  13. Which is why I love Lee Gon. He love all of Tae Eul. He didn’t ask her to change. He didn’t try to give her a makeover. He is just perfect and Tae Eul knows it too. Which is why she missed him so much when he’s not around.

  14. Wow. Lee Min Ho/Lee Gon really outdid himself – how are we to return to our normal lives now 😂 My mum is dumbfounded at the number of posts that are still coming in despite the show ending, but they are really helping with post drama withdrawal symptoms 😊 Thank you!!!

  15. Out of curiosity is there going to be a Tae Eul appreciation page in the future, too?

  16. You’re right! Let me write about this. Thanks, GB!

  17. Lol. Who reads my posts? You or your mom?

Tell your mom, this is therapy like when you’ve broken up with a boyfriend. We just ended a relationship with this drama (no more weekends going out on dates with this show) So we’re doing a post-mortem on our relationship. 🙂

Or if you want, call it an “exit interview.”

  18. We should, right? I’ll open one tomorrow.

It’s 2:30 am where I am, and heading to bed now. Gnight!

  19. @packmule3 Haha! I’m the one reading your posts and I try my best to get my mum to read them because of how insightful they are. She introduced me to the world of Kdrama but I became the more addicted one 😉

  20. @Dreamer & @packmule3 – it’s true. I can’t give up on the show. There are so many things that the regular audience missed out on. I did notice the street intersection scene where TE was the lone wolf with 2 bullets left. I had a religious connection to the scene rather than a mathematical one. The white lines on the intersection was a Christian cross and she’s at the center of it, perhaps that Fate/heavenly power is looking out for her and she will be fine.

@packmule – I read this blog every day to see new content and comments. I am glad there are most posts and have you surpassed the 50th mark?
TKEM is my favorite Kdrama and I don’t think I can watch another new Kdrama for a while. I watched the two trailers for It’s Okay Not to Be Okay, and I’m sitting on the fence for it. The one reason I’d watch it is so I can read this blog. It’s difficult to depict mental health issues and people with disabilities in a meaningful, respectful, and accurate way.

  21. @packmule: I liked that you concluded he packed all the leaves for TE! When I first watched that scene, I had thought he had packed 2 leaves, because “one for you and one for me”. I thought TE’s horrified look was because she realized one of those palm leaves wasn’t going to be enough for her! 🙊🙈

I did a quick count on your TKEM main page, I think you’ve hit 100 already?

@fan of TKEM: I agree there were so many Easter eggs hidden within the show! One more I just discovered: Barefooted youth was a real movie produced in 1964. The male lead was poor & a gangster, the female, rich. In the end I think they committed suicide because they found that the class divide was just too great to cross. Contrasts greatly with LG and TE, who managed to find ways to cross time & space to be together.

  22. Wow are there really going to be 17 posts? Please accept an endless supply of cookies, milk, fried chicken, MSD, stamina giving ginseng and anything else you need Packmule!

If not, then Packmule thank you very much for opening your doors to newbies like me, reading your posts really made the experience of watching the drama better. It was really nice to read the other Bitches’ ideas and opinions too.

  23. @packmule3 I have sent you my gushing praise via email. Please check 🙂 Hope it is not too late, and sorry for this delay, but I couldn’t cut down on the adulation 😛 So needed more time to research and gush more 🙂

  24. 😂 Saw your email. I’m sure your write-up will be good as always. Will put it on queue and schedule it for posting this afternoon when I get home. I’ll have to add pictures. We can’t have a write-up on our 2nd BBDBoyfriend without swoonworthy pics, can we now? 😜

    Thanks!!!! You’re awesome.

    🌸🌺☀️🌷

  25. @packmule3 Thank you for encouraging me to write🙂 I’m inspired by all your posts on Lee Gon and wanted to add my contributions too (as a permanent resident of Shallow Island, I’m allowed a little gushing, I think 😝 )

Hope it is upto your standards. Just noticed a few small typos..sorry😔..please feel free to correct them before posting.

Of course we should have some swoonworthy scene stills at approximate places to take our cillective breath away😍😍😍

Do include the beheading kiss please🙏🙏🙏

That should actually have been a 5th point – like Xiao Nai had the hickey, Lee Gon has the beheading kiss😘😘

  26. @packmule3 Made some changes 🙂 If you haven’t scheduled the post yet, please read the revised post. I thought of more points that needed more details 😛

  27. dear @packmule3 aka Queen of the BoD realm, please accept a truck AND a ship full of the best cookies in my shameless attempt to bribe to write more about Lee Gon and Jeung Tae Eul. but since Phoenix has already written a brilliant keynote on Gon, is there any chance you can share your thoughts about Tae Eul now that the series is over? attached : ⛴🍪🍪🍪🍪🚚🍪🍪🍪
